Is Henry Winter right??

I read an article in The Daily Telegraph the other day, it was dated the 30th April and the author, Henry Winter had a few things to say about our frailties.

At the time of the article being written we had played ten games since the massive loss at Wembley, we had also been knocked out of both the FA Cup and Champions League. It was a horrid time for all Arsenal fans. On top of that, we had won just eight points from a possible twenty-one in the Premier League.

This is basically what the author had to say with snippets quoted from the paper.

‘Arsenal’s intelligent manager must comprehend the team will mature into a trophy-winning force only if, individually and collectively, they begin to take responsibility.’

‘Take the 89th minute at Wembley. Both Arsenal players were culpable but Koscielny should really have responded in the assertive manner of a previous, far more illustrious wearer of the red No 6 shirt’.

‘Tony Adams would have smashed the ball clear, and anybody in the way, rather than wait expectantly for the keeper’.

‘Arsenal are a team of talented souls hampered by a failure to take responsibility as danger unfolds or, when things go wrong, accept responsibility’.

Henry Winter then went on to talk about Emmanuel Eboue’s rash penalty-bringing challenge on Liverpool’s Lucas at the Emirates and how no-one in his view shouldered the blame. He suggests that Wenger needs to take responsibility himself and stop complaining about decisions against us.

‘As has been repeatedly highlighted since Wembley, Wenger’s body language has hardly radiated confidence. He looks a man on the edge, not a man in control. That’s a bad image for his players to see’.

Sir Alex Ferguson observed that “the personality of a manager is the most important thing at a football club’.

‘That personality can inspire the players to be better’’. said Fergie.

Fergie was not referring to Wenger allegedly, which is possibly a good thing seeing as we have just played them off the park to win earn three points.

Winter suggests that the ‘constant clamour for a revolution at Arsenal, for the team to be dismantled and rebuilt should be ignored’

‘Arsenal need a tweak in Wenger’s mind-set, instructing his players in the importance of taking responsibility’.

‘Wenger also needs to recruit a couple of established winners, natural leaders, to instill some backbone into the team so they did not bend and break under late-season pressure’.

This is where you and I will all agree, he goes on to say we just need a few tweaks in our side, we need tough characters like Vieira and Adams, not whimps like Denilson and Eboue.

One of the players he suggests we would benefit from signing is Scott Parker – well a few of us agree with him there don’t we but as we said yesterday, he is more likely to end up down the road from us.

Then he talks about the others we should cut free this summer –

Eboué, Nicklas Bendtner, Tomas Rosicky, Manuel Almunia and Denilson are listed, funny how his list is nearly the same as most fans list.

Then, go get a few players who are up for the fight, up for games like we have on Sunday – up for the trips to the north of England in the middle of Winter and bring home 3 points, that’s what we need.

Finally, Henry Winter makes one last remark, and that is about Cesc Fabregas. Should he and Arsenal decide he will go this summer, Arsene Wenger must hand the armband to a real leader.

But he has to buy one first

I kind of got the impression from that article that Henry Winter thinks we are a bit soft mentally, maybe he is right too. If we were a stronger side we wouldn’t have let the Wembley debacle knock us back, we wouldn’t have gone on to have such a dreadful run of results would we? In fact the Wembley debacle probably wouldn’t have occurred.

Is he right, do we really have a proper leader in our camp who is ready to take the armband IF Cesc goes, or will Arsene Wenger have to buy one?

Maybe we will get our answer tomorrow when we face Stoke City…

Morning Rico, excellent post. Do you think Mr Winter has been reading Arsenal blogs?

  2. rico says:

Morning kev, thank you re the post…

It makes you wonder doesn’t it and I think he is usually pretty fair with what he writes, unlike some…

I believe we lack a ‘vocal’ leader and I also believe that Wengers body language cannot be very reassuring sometimes…

    You had the storms?

  3. rico says:

I do, don’t think JD has been ruled out but yep, i think we’ll see involved at some stage – could be a moral boosting bench warmer 🙂

Henry Winter is a clueless hack who has his tongue up fergie’s and Abramovichs arses. Why would you even be reading his shit? You must have too much time on your hands!

  6. rico says:

    Morning to you Dexter,

Thank you for your quality comment, each to their own re newspapers i guess and I happen to think he is pretty much spot on with this particular article…

  7. allezkev says:

Yes Rico, we had a big downpour down here and now it’s overcast. Two more posts today, phew my back aches. Hows the situ with the bees?

  8. Sim says:

Good post but please don’t give Winter the credit for these thoughts. Arsenal blogs and many other better journalists have said these kinds of things for a while. Winter has a history of ripping into Arsenal. He claimed we were fortunate to be Invincible instead of crediting Wenger’s brilliance and on one occasion when we beat Everton 7-0 called us lucky!!! He is a Fergie worshipper and has never been able to accept that Wenger has bested his hero and achieved something Utd cannot in 03/04.
Of course we need changes but why speculate until the summer as nothing can be done until then anyway.

  9. rico says:

Bet you’ll be glad when the posts are done, i’ll let you know when mine are ready for replacing 😉

Haven’t seen them thankfully but no doubt when the rain stops that might change but i think they are now in the neigbours chimney, the fire worked even though it was very hot 😉

  10. allezkev says:

Terrible news re;Seve, what a smashing guy. Agree 100% on cancer, i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Dexter, there’s plenty of other blogs out there that would value your attitude. This, fortunately, isn’t one. Try creating a blog yourself, then sit back and wait for others to come on and abuse ya. it’s really easy old son.

  11. allezkev says:

Haha Rico [can’t do the smiley]. You let me know matey. 2 today, 1 tommorrow and 5 next week. oh my poor back. But i am sleeping well…..

Had an infestation of wasps some years back. Got into my cavity wall. Council came around and smoked the little blighters out.

  12. rico says:

no wonder you are sleeping well, radox 😉

Wasps are worse, hate the little chuffers….

You seen Wengers article on afc.com?

  13. allezkev says:

Yes, Vermaelen on the bench sounds good to me, although i’d have no worries about him starting.
I see that Ozyakup wants to leave. Apparantly the 18 year old wants assurances about 1st team opportunities!!!

  14. rico says:

Arsène Wenger admits he has some frustrated players to deal with at the end of the campaign.

The Frenchman’s squad is probably larger now than it has ever been and, given a finite number of games each season and only 11 places on the pitch, a number of players have had to wait for their chance.

At his pre-match press conference on Friday, Wenger admitted that Nicklas Bendtner had not been given sufficient chances this term and revealed that he would sit down and discuss his future in the summer.

When he spoke to reporters later on, the manager was asked about two other players who have not started as many games as they might have expected to – Andrey Arshavin and Kieran Gibbs.

“We are in May and if you go to the 20 Premier League clubs you will see frustrated players at every club,” said Wenger.

“But you know who the player is who was involved in most of the Premier League games this season? Arshavin. He has played as much as everyone else.

“I will talk to all the players at the end of the season. I spoke about Nicklas Bendtner because it’s true he didn’t get enough games. Personally I want him to stay because he’s a young striker with top quality – but I have to sit down with him.

“Kieran Gibbs, that’s a problem we have to sort out as well. We have mixed messages from people because we are always told to buy but then I’m told I don’t play my players enough. If I buy a few I will have more frustrated players.”

Gael Clichy’s future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks and the French left back is another player Wenger plans to sit down with.

“We will sort all these cases out at the end of the season,” he said.

  15. allezkev says:

No probs Rico, some of these guys make me larf… Bunch of sad gits.
    Radox??? Nah, exhaustion.

No, not seen it [AW], want does our leader have to say this time. “Sorry” would be a change.

  16. JonJon says:

    morning all..
i sit on the fence with this one..
journos write stuff to sell..they will write anything.
when its an anti arsenal piece they get alot of stick but when alot of what they just echos what the fans are thinking then you cant argue

its a bit like cesc and what he has said recently..we dont like hearing it cos its cesc and its arsenal..but we cant disagree with it cos hes only saying what most of us think

we need a trophy..we need to tweak the squad and get rid of the deadwood and add a few quality players..thats the bottom line..everyone knows it, the fans, the media, the whole footballing world..

    does wenger? lets see

  17. rico says:

i just posted it kev, a few frustrated players, maybe we should tell him there are more than a few frustrated fans around…

  18. allezkev says:

“If i buy a few I will have more frustrated players” Err, well try selling a few as well.

Well Rico, what do you see, between the lines, in those comments? Same as same as maybe?

  19. JonJon says:

ozyakup wants to be rewarded for doing nothing like the ones who have progressed before him..

the club has set the bar by giving players wages they dont deserve so other players will want the same when renewing contracts..

    if he leaves so what..

  20. rico says:

hi jj, i don’t normally take much notice of articles like this but i like to read them if that makes sense..

all he is saying is we need a beast at the back, a tweak here and there, and bobs you uncle…

if wenger does that, his body language will change as we’ll be back winning..

    🙂

  21. SUGA3 says:

    morning…

good read and Winter is spot on!

nice to read a few quality writeups before embarking on the weekend studying blitz!

  22. JonJon says:

hes not fooling anyone with those comments kev
hes got frustrated players because the squad is too big and has been for ages..

and those frustrated are only that cos they arent good enough to get into the team, if they were good enough they would be providing more competition, but they dont…the manager is answering his own question..

  23. rico says:

    I say,

Show the frustrated ones the door and replace them with players who won’t be frustrated as they will show how good they are…

  24. JonJon says:

    hiya kev

no mate ive boycotted the games..
ive got better things to do with my money…
like buy food, put a roof over my head and provide for my young one…

  25. rico says:

Hi Sim, sorry for the delay in letting you on, first comments go into moderation..

We all speculate about who we’ll buy in the summer, it’s makes blogging fun on a no news day.. 😉

  26. SUGA3 says:

it will be more like a much needed intermission tomorrow, as I have left it quite late 😉

    anyhoo, play nice!

  27. allezkev says:

JJ, i make you right on both counts mate, Arse and roof!
But both you and Rico are spot-on with the deadwood at the club. AW needs to act, i’m sick of the bullsh*t, it’s all excuses, excuses, excuses…

  28. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning all, nice one rico,
Glad you got rid of your Bee’s.
Very sad news about Seve a true Gentleman, gave me many hours of pleasure watching the charismatic man. This Henry Winter sounds like a Gooner, and i believe he has hit it on the head with Scot Parker, all it takes is a good offer we should be able to outbid most clubs if we really do want to compete in this league.

  29. allezkev says:

Rico, i’m offski, those posts won’t ‘erect’ themselves, hehe. See ya later, you to JJ.

  30. SUGA3 says:

    kev,

I think AW just does not know any other way but excusing failure anymore!

I wish I was wrong, but I am not holding my breath…

oh well, summer by the pool without a care about the transfer non-dealings it is for me!

  31. clockendjim says:

He has got the current situation at Arsenal absolutely spot on – but he is only repeating what most Arsenal fans have been saying on these blogs for the past 3 or 4 years.
Why Wenger and the Board cannot see that we would have been Champions this & last season for the sake of spending relatively small money for an experienced goalkeeper and commanding centre half is beyond comprehension
There will be no excuse next season for not sorting the weaknesses in the squad, especially if he has a fire sale and gets reasonable money for Almunia, Denilson, Diaby, Sqillacci, Bendtner, Rosicky, Eboue etc – all failed experiments. Signing Scott Parker would be a great start
This is even more relevant if Fabregas goes and there is £40/45m more in the kitty.
It must be screamed from the rooftops – no more lame excuses please

  32. rico says:

    Morning Steve,

a true gent indeed, a good man and a great golfer. ive watched him over the years aswell especially in the ryder cup – a sad day…

Re Parker, the way things are going we will be the only london side in the CL that would interest him, surely at his age he would want to play at that level. Like you say, offer him what it takes to get his signature, he’d be a great addition to this current crop…

  33. rico says:

    hi clockendjim,

it shows he reads and listens to the fans, at least his article is right rather than some old git who slates just for the sake of it…

i think we all agree that changes have been needed for a long while and how wenger cannot see it is staggering. wenger has to change his ideas and surely this summer is his last chance…

  34. JonJon says:

    seeya kev..

suga i had an interesting convo with a mate of mine the other day and it was mentioned that wenger is afraid of not having excuses..

doing it this way, using this philosophy he gives himself loads…

    ‘i use kids’
    i dont spend no money’

he gets away with not winning anything cos his philosophy ia a walking bag of excuses

if he did buy some top players he would be expected to win something..he would have no excuses..
and thats why he wont do it..

  35. JonJon says:

its like with anything in life rico..

if you tell yourself something for long enough you start to believe it and it becomes a part of you..no matter what youve done in the past..

  36. rico says:

i’m hanging on the hope that it is mostly down to the tight board and now stan is more invlolved he’ll want us back to winning ways.

he’ll get us around the world making money to pay for it no doubt 😉

  37. JonJon says:

i was hoping stan would do that rico
but even though the extra 4.5mil ticket hike wasnt his idea and was planned before the takeover, stan could have vetoed it..
he hasnt and its gone ahead..
i actually thought there would be change this summer but the signals coming out of the club and the manager suggests it wont.

il hang on until the summer before i lose my rag and the old, new, old, new, new, old, jj returns.. 😉

but my hopes are firmly grounded..

  38. rico says:

maybe it was all too advanced jj – but, i think fans will take that blow a lot softer IF, the board now go on and sort our squad out, maybe that is why they have announced it now, maybe they know what the summer will bring…

same as you, i’m giving them this summer then the ‘board and wenger out’ banners will be held high 😉

  39. Joaquim Moreira says:

After my jogging I knew the death of Ballesteros.
I think that Arsenal should have 24 to 25 players. All the others had to be loan. Gibbs is a fact that, for example, has not played much. It is one of the reasons why I believe that the League Cup should be used to give players minutes, when Arsenal is in many competitions. But, for instance, who would predict in the begin of the season, that will cater for so many goalkeepers need?
Each day passes, convinced me that Mourinho is leaving Real Madrid. The critics are many and who knows the club, knows that the game model, the attitudes of Mourinho and the “bad” name does not play with the tradition associated with Real Madrid.
Transfers… now is the weekend 🙂

  40. SUGA3 says:

    JJ @ 10:40 & 10:48

    spot on, my thoughts exactly…

here is a copy + paste job from one of the threads some time ago, showing what it should be and what it will be:

    Option 1*

CEO: Arsene, have you got your targets and ‘out’ list identified?

    AW: Yes

CEO: Sweet, who are these? Let me get on with it!

*subject to assessment of quality and suitability of targets

    Option 2

CEO: Arsene, have you got your targets and your ‘out’ list identified?

    AW: No, not yet.

CEO: Go and clear your desk, I am expecting your resignation on mine in 15 minutes.

but we all know this kind of stuff is reserved for clubs that are serious about winning stuff, so the convo is more likely to look like this:

CEO: Well done Arsene for scrapping 4th from the jaws of winning the league.

    AW: Thanks

CEO: Do you think Barca will give us the £45m for Cesc we held out for last year?

    AW: Yes

CEO: Who will we bring in to replace him?

AW: Dont worry no need to spend I have many internal solutions such as Frimpong

CEO: Will we still manage to qualify for the CL next year?

AW: Thats why you pay me, no?

CEO: Arsene youre the best. I have bought you this action man to sit next to you on the bench next season so you dont miss Pat Rice, pull the string and it talks!

    *AW pulls the string*

Action Man: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

    ALMOST funny…

  41. rico says:

    Hi JM,

I can’t feel too sorry for Gibbs, other than his injuries – every time he plays he gets another set back – he is another that could do with a proper recovery time in the summer and be fit and ready for next season – if Clichy goes, he’ll get his chance. If not, loan him out to toughen up…

Maybe Jose is next in contention for Man City…

  42. MikeB says:

    Rico,

I was very pleased to see your kind words on Seve.

There are people in all sports who transcend the sport at which they excel. These people come along once in a lifetime, if we’re lucky, and Seve was most certainly one of them.

I once had the pleasure of meeting him at Sunningdale in 1985, between his two greatest triumphs at St Andrews and the Ryder Cup. He’d just blown the European Open to his greatest rival Langer, and had finished well down the field. Ninety-nine per cent of the so-called professionals on the European tour had packed their bags and gone, but Seve stayed behind in the clubhouse and waited for the prize-giving, just to applaud his great rival’s victory.

He still found time to chat to me, and was a perfect gentleman in the face of my tongue-tied inanity; a superstar sportsman, but more importantly… a fine man.

Oh that we had such a sporting transcendent in The Arsenal team…

Then again, who knows, maybe we do.

  43. JonJon says:

    lol suga

thats pretty much how it should and shouldnt be..but it is..or it has been..

the thing is that for us to jump from 4th to 1st is probably about 30-40mil

but the extra monetary gain you get from finishing 1st instead of 4th isnt all that much..maybe about 2mil in prize money..the league pay you out for where you are placed theres no actual prizes for winning..

so in the clubs business mind they are paying 40mil to earn 2 mil more..

this club isnt about trophies anymore its about maximising profits with minumum input or risk and thats what wenger is paid to do…and it suits him becuause it enables him to keep his job forever and do what the fuck he wants..

  44. JonJon says:

i think we should keep clichy as back up and make him fight for his place back..get back that 2008 form..

gibbs is a good prospect i think he needs a years loan to a pl club to get him upto speed again..

  45. SUGA3 says:

or at least to see whether he can last a season without a serious injury setback(s), get rid if not…

  46. El tel says:

    Hi Rico,

The thing that bothers me most about football journalists is how ALL of them want to put Arsenal and our problems right.

Never read anything about the Chavs collapse earlier in the season neither have I read any of them write on the weakness of the Mancs.

It is always The Arsenal that they want to get into, it’s ok us Arsenal fans having our opinion but what has it got to do with these Arsenal hating hacks.

  47. SUGA3 says:

    JJ,

with regards to that investment to prize money ration, it’s not just that, imagine how much revenue would be generated by winning ANY trophy as long as it is not Ems Cup!

the latter is won by default as well, we invited a team that could be arsed (Hamburg) playing under a manager with a point to prove (Jol), do I need to remind you how that ended?

Red Bulls, Boca Juniors and PSG? pfffft…

  48. El tel says:

God bless Sevvy, he took Golf to the rest of the planet and made it worth watching on TV. Like Higgins at Snooker he was a Maverick and a Magician.

  49. SUGA3 says:

    El Tel,

why would anyone write about Chavs’ collapse? it’s ancient history and they have got their shit together now, when it counts, no?

why would they risk ending up with an egg on their faces? unlike their temporary crisis, Arsenal’s annual collapse is a gimme!

plenty of journos chat shit, but Winter is spot on in this article and it’s pretty daft to disagree with that…

  50. JonJon says:

    thats just it though suga
we would gain extra revenue from winning trophies in a commercial sense..

but thats seen as a business risk..its a gamble..
why specualte to accumulate when you can accumulate healthily without the risks??

arsenal dont take risks, they have a successful financial blue print without winning anything so why would they want to change it??

the only thing that would make them change it is to do it for the fans but since when have they give two shits about what we think??

  51. SUGA3 says:

and by the way, bias is a wondeful thing and it works both ways:

I actually recall quite a few articles about Carlo being on his way out and all that stuff…

  52. SUGA3 says:

    JJ,

it’s just short-sighted: your kid will probably support Arsenal, and so wopuld mine if I had one, but it’s like the demography of a country:

on the average, every woman needs to bear more than one kid (can’t remember what the exact figure is) to allow for natural replacement of taxpayers for the pension system not to collapse, can you see the analogy here?

  53. Will says:

    Re: Prize money.

The real prize money comes with the added fans that come with a winning team. Do you think man Utd would make as much money if they were not winning? Do you think all those Asian fans would buy the shirts if they were fighting for 10th every year?

That is where the money comes from.

Win, get more fans, make more money, buy better players, win more, get more fans etc etc.

  54. JonJon says:

    yup
new fans and trophies come hand in hand..

arsenals need to survive depends on the new fans as well as the old ones who pass their support from genertation to generation..

thing is..if the club continue to price the fans out their kids will end up supporting someone else cos not every child of every gooner will follow in the footsteps if they dont go to games, especially when you consider all the teams in london… and if we dont win any trophies the new fans will support someone else who will..

arsenal are playing a dangerous game here..in the short term they will get away with it but in the long term they are in danger of flushing the club down the tiolet..

  55. rico says:

    Hi El Tel,

Be interesting to see what they write after tomorrows match between the chavs and mancs, one of them will probably end up with nothing this season….

  56. Will says:

I agree JJ and then we will rely on so call JCL’s and if we are not winning, they will dry up as well.

If we win, the stadium will be full and the JCL’s will be plenty.

Build it and they will come.

  57. rico says:

Oh and the hacks will hopefully have a field day after the CL Final 😉 😉

    Hi Will…

Got to pop off for bit, catch you all later…

  58. JonJon says:

we would have never filled the stadium if we didnt go unbeaten that season..
all the new fans jumped on baord becuase we were the team of the era..

now we arent those fans will dwindle i dont care what the wiating list says if we dont win those fans will go…

  59. Will says:

Exactly so we need to get the players in we need, get the players out we don’t and have a real go at winning. The annoying this is, EVERYONE can see what we need, it has been the same for 3 to 4 seasons.

  60. JonJon says:

ive got to pop out too..ive got a little one to collect and try to convince to be a gooner over the next few years..even though mummy thinks its funny to make her a manutd fan

so come on arsenal..help a gooner out and win something for once.. 😉

  61. SUGA3 says:

    JJ,

I am on the waiting list, not too sure if I would cough up a grand for the ticket right now, even though I could probably afford it…

paying £15 for the shit’n’giggles of being 33,756 on the waiting list is one, paying for the damn thing is another, any top manager not seeing that and counting on these who ‘wait’ has another thing coming!

  62. Gunner38 says:

Henry Winter is a biased, Arsenal hating cheap hack who has shamed himself with the bile he peddles out every week. He must be related to Howard -the Sun’s chief Arsenal hater. Bell-end!

  63. SUGA3 says:

now that was a valuable comment!

please proceed to put your head back in the sand where it belongs 😆

  64. allezkev says:

    Re: Suga, 10.29
‘I think AW just does not know any other way but excusing failure anymore’.
I always tended to believe, or want to believe, that it was Wengers way of deflecting criticism away from the players. And maybe in part that is the case. Therefore i maintained that i’d give him this summer before totally giving up on him.
Then i hear all that crapola about Bendtner and i begin to despair. So now i’m coming around to the fear that we’ll still be lumbered with the same old tossers for yet another season.
I’m still gonna give him this summer, but any hopes i may have harboured a few weeks ago, that he may finally get his chequebook out, are fast disappearing.

  65. allezkev says:

I wonder Suga, how many of those 33,000+ on the waiting, will accept, or be in a position to accept, season tickets if they get the opportunity this summer?
But don’t despair lads, another 12 months of Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner, Eboue & co and they’ll be a shed-load of tickets available

  66. Lee says:

Yeah ok mate…my sons football party, so knacered! How’s the Micky Mosts going? I just want to hear the right vibes from the club, not bigging up NB!! Roll on the summer and some positive hires/fires!!!!

  67. allezkev says:

You know i try my best to be a glass half-full AFC fan, But those old glass half-empty feelings all come flooding back every time Wenger opens his gob and comes out with that kinda rubbish. We’ve heard it all before and we don’t wanna hear it ANYMORE.
If he doesn’t learn this summer then i’ll begin to give up on him mate.

  68. allezkev says:

My lad used to play for Gidea Park Rangers. I used to love watching him play, a bit of a speed merchant.

  69. allezkev says:

Could only manage one today, too knackered. Gonna have a day off tomorrow, then attack it again Monday.

  70. SUGA3 says:

    guys,

out of curiosity, I have just checked the Ticket Hub panel and I have gone up 5K places!

you never know, I may be in line for the ticket when we are good again

  71. allezkev says:

Here ya are Suga, i didn’t even bother to look. So here you go…………£985.00, for the cheap seats and 12 months of Eboue. What an effin bargain eh?

  72. SUGA3 says:

I have been gaining about 4-5K places per season, but I am expecting this season’s rise up the queue to be a bit more than that with the general mood amongst the supporters having shifted considerably…

Current results in the Online Gooner’s referendum with regards to whether AW is still da man:

    Yes 47.59%

    No 52.41%

    unthinkable a year ago, no?

  73. allezkev says:

But in truth Suga, that is not only so sad, but it’s completely avoidable. do any of those idiots really know the strength of feelings among the fans and how frustrated we all are. Nevermind Bendtner being frustrated, i’ll happily be frustrated on his wedge.

  74. SUGA3 says:

    Kev,

seriously, this club has got so much unsused potential it’s unbelievable…

I am a PR graduate and I cringe as I look at the way the commercial and PR matters are being handled!

and this is where the source of income lies, not the ticket price hike, ffs…

  75. allezkev says:

Suga, it comes all the way down from the top…
We have a stupid old fool like Hill-Wood as chairman, then some other chinless mates of his on the board who he can share G&t’s with at games.
Nobody questions the management, nobody is held to account. You read your Arsenal history mate and you’ll see this is the norm.

  76. allezkev says:

The commercial dept sell the club short whilst the Chavs, Mancs and Scousers rake it in. What do these guys do? How on earth did they get into our club?
I hope Stan sacks the lot of them.

  77. allezkev says:

Lee, our seats are in front of where Bergkamp had his seat. I think we’re in the nuvo North Bank!

  78. SUGA3 says:

    Kev,

to be honest, there was one period when we were on the up when Chapman was around and the other time when we had DD as vice-chairman, some visionary he is…

not sure if you saw this video, but worth watching in its entirety if you didn’t, listen what he says:

we should count our lucky stars for him buying the shares for less than £300K from that idiot who thought it was Christmas!

  79. allezkev says:

Suga, that was superb. This club, team-wise, has stagnated since Dein left. He encouraged Wenger to buy and he persuaded the Board to finance the team. i was devestated ehen he was sacked, i just had these bad vibes, and unfortunately they’ve come to pass.
If Stan gets Dein back on board, then we can really push on. But Stan has to get shot of Hill-Wood & co or we’ll go nowhere.

  80. Joaquim Moreira says:

    WH close the relegation…
    Everton 0 City 1
Time for read the newspapers and watching football on tv at the same time

  81. SUGA3 says:

    Kev,

PHW is a your everyday daddy’s boy and I absolutely despise the type!

I doubt he did a single day of honest work in his life and has absolutely no idea what it means to earn his keep…

not to mention that having everything served on the plate your whole life takes away ALL the hunger and ambition…

now that he has sold his last 0.64% of shares, there is no reason to have him around, surely?

  82. allezkev says:

Suga, i totally agree, maybe Stan is just easing him out the door gradually, so as not to look like the new man breezing in and making sweeping changes.

I’ll long held the view that Hill-wood just uses Arsenal as a glorified Gentleman’s Club. Fiszman was the Arsenal fan on the board, it’s just tragic that Danny fell out with Dein.

  83. SUGA3 says:

    Kev,

IMO, from the supporters’ POV sweeping out the old fossil would have nearly as much positive PR effect as buying a player, if you consider his most recent press fart 👿

and sweeping changes is just what is needed – PHW out Dein in? yes, please!

  84. allezkev says:

Suga/Lee, it’s been a pleasure, but i’ve got some jobs pending. So hopefully i’ll see ya’all on here later on. adios

  85. Joaquim Moreira says:

    last news:
Jan Vertonghen (Ajax) and Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart) are mentioned as potential additions to the Arsenal by British media.
Manager Arsène Wenger intends to strengthen the central defense with powerful players, a trait that the Belgian and German do.

How many players have been nominated by the press, bloggers, etc, for Arsenal? And we’re in the middle of May …

  86. rico says:

Arsenal will reportedly make a decision on whether or not to recruit teenage pair Kevin Mbabu and Robert Mirosavic in the coming days.

According to Young Guns, the former has spent the last few weeks with the north London club, being deployed at right-back in the youth team during the recent Ferroli Cup in Italy.

Manchester United had also been chasing the 16-year-old put have paved the way for the Gunners, and a move now looks likely after Mbabu impressed Arsenal Academy supremo Liam Brady.

  87. Joaquim Moreira says:

Arrigo Sacchi, the coach who led Milan (what a great team! 🙂 to two Champions Cups in three years, from 1987 to 1991. Part of the interview:
“… The Wenger and Houllier arrived to attend our training and were ecstatic. They said that our defense when we had to mark Maradona in Naples (what’s a player ! 🙂 ), was so synchronized dance as the dancers Germans Kessler twins …”

Wenger has to review the DVD (or video of the time!)

  88. SUGA3 says:

oh great, another pair of youngsters for which we will pay a few million quid, never play them in the first team, allow them to become frustrated and leave at a loss…

    grrr…

  89. rico says:

I did say they would be rumours for us to suffer SUGA, but Jamie on YG’s is usually spot on with his info – I guess 16 is better than the last one, who was 14….

I don’t mind the kids, as long as he gets the experience finally this summer – sort the here and now as well as the future….

  90. SUGA3 says:

    rico,

well, to be honest, I seriously DO mind signing more kids, for the reasons stated above…

and we have been scouting and signing kids for stupid fees like, er, procreation was about to go out of fashion!

  91. rico says:

I don’t think they earn much do they suga at that age, its when they sign their first pro-contract – wengers problem is hanging on to the dross…

If he got rid of those who are cack each window it would be ok, but he doesn’t so for me that is where the problem lies with the kids..

But yes, they still have to be paid and all the time the club say we have little money, it does seem stupid to be drip dripping at the funds we do have..

  92. SUGA3 says:

    rico,

take my personal favourite, whose name I have sworn not to type (No. 15) for example: signed at 17 for nearly £4M

go figure! these Brazilians must still be laughing…

  93. rico says:

Exactly SUGA, he should have been out the door 3/4 years ago but, to be fair to him, he is not a defensive midfielder he’s a creative midfielder….

  94. SUGA3 says:

oh good, she sounds like my kind of girl then 😀

I usually type D******n, I am a swearing enthusiast, but there are children out there reading this, you know!

  95. SUGA3 says:

to be fair to him, I liked his game when we played some cup game, can’t quite remember against whom, but we wore all-white kit…

and he probably has the best freekick convertion ratio in the whole team, not that it’s saying much 😆

  96. rico says:

    He’s just so slow SUGA….

Was that game this season, or do i need to check the archives? Its been so long since he had a good game 😉

  97. SUGA3 says:

    rico,

it was the season when we had these white Chapman tops 😆

    ancient history, I know!

  98. SUGA3 says:

and the formation + play made sense back then!

    Wenger is just a copycat:

    – got tonked by Ajax by their pass’n’move, he adapted pass’n’move

    – got tonked by Barca playing 4-3-3, guess what?

  99. rico says:

Its down to players Suga, right players can win with any formation, square players stuffed in round holes will nevr work, for the last 3/4 seasons we are living proof….

  100. SUGA3 says:

    rico,

IMO, we would have done MUCH better if AW was a tad more flexible with formation, tactics, etc. even with what we have!

sometimes the situation (personnel available) BEGGED for playing 4-4-2…

Wenger is tactically inept, simple as that!

  101. rico says:

Spot on Suga, said so many time that wenger has a system, he plays it whatever – we seem to seldom look at who we play and select a side to faec them…

It’s 4-3-3 regardless and for such an intelligent man, i don’t get why he carries on, especially when he plays players like Nik and Theo as wingers, Nik is a striker, albeit a poor one and we have just started to see Theo cut in and become much more effective…

we see it, why can he not??

  102. SUGA3 says:

I think I have got it figured out:

AW had these two great teams which would pretty much manage themselves and since they were so good, they would brush aside most of the opponents, hence he did not need to worry about tactics, as the same approach each and every time would normally do the job…

it’s the other team that was supposed to be worried 😉

now he seems to think that he has ‘the best squad ever’ (laughable, but there you go), so he wrongly thinks he can still get away with the same approach…

flat track bully of a football manager if I ever saw one!

  103. rico says:

Do you honestly believe that he believes this is the so called best squad?

I don’t, I truly believe he has been the one to take the stick for the lack of spending by the board and he just feeds us all what the board want him too…

  104. rico says:

Fingers crossed they hold on Suga, i don’t want Blackpool to go down….

how did Adam hold his nerve, great penalty…

    the second one 😉

  105. rico says:

I’m hanging on until the final whistle before i laugh 😉

Waddle talks twaddle- Rose ‘does well with the ball when he gets it’ – what utter garbage, he hits a defender with his cross – and didn’t Waddle say thet Theo is rubbish for doing that…

    Ex Spurs knob!

  106. Lee says:

Rico,if there was a good performance from someone with “d” on their back…. Twin brother stood in for the “real deal” lol

  107. rico says:

I thought i was going to watch a few funny clips, classic suga, just bloody classic….. 😆

  108. allezkev says:

    Evening Gooners.
Hey Suga, luv your videos, always looking at them on LG.
Agree Rico, i want Blackpool to stay up, they football [and we can beat them, hehe]

  109. allezkev says:

    Evening Gooners.
Hey Suga, luv your videos, always looking at them on LG.
Agree Rico, i want Blackpool to stay up, they play football [and we can beat them, hehe]

  110. allezkev says:

Bit sore, fell on my arsenal and that’s really sore. But i’m having a day of rest tomorrow. Did the bees go for good Rico?

  111. rico says:

they had two from the same move kev, had they scored the first they wouldn’t have got the second…

  112. allezkev says:

My Uncle’s team, Dagenham & Redbridge went down, not a good day. He’s the oldest kit man in the league.

  113. Lee says:

Kev, just ironed a jalfrezi out, lots of banter with the bods in the ruby house! According to one of the guys in there we need a 20+ a season out & out striker plus a monster DM….

  114. allezkev says:

Lee, oh no, i can almost taste it amigo.
Looks like beans on toast for me tonight.
    But i agree re: Striker…

  115. allezkev says:

Rico, where’s Wath or Oliver? They’re your best bet for tomorrows post…
    Do you want some idea’s?

  116. allezkev says:

That’s it Rico, for me a c/h & two strikers. But it looks like silly bollox wants to keep Bendtner, who i’d get shot of.

  117. Joaquim Moreira says:

    St Totts Day! 🙂
However, if they not had taken four points, we could dream with your feet on the ground! …
Malaga was seeking to Julio Baptista Roma in January. It had been our solution for the rest of the season!

  118. rico says:

i don’t think wenger wants to keep nik kev, he’s just playing the ‘media’ game… 🙂

  119. Lee says:

Kev, bloody small world..was on a stag do recently, met at Marriott Waltham abbey…so were D&R fc, bloke with us used to play a bit (John pratt’s son..sorry!) said he was kit man when he had a spell there…and he was really old then!!! Lol

  120. allezkev says:

Rico, i really hope you are right about Nik.
I’ll do that Rico, if i can think of something good enough. You never know, i might be lucky enough to get some constructive comments from Dexter eh?

  121. allezkev says:

He’s in his 80’s mate, i don’t know how he keeps going Lee, but he loves it. Only downside is…..he’s a Spud….

  122. allezkev says:

Rico, they never do… Remember James? Maybe a mate of Dexter?? i think if i did a post you’d have loads on here, haha.

  123. allezkev says:

Lee, half my family are Gooners [the better half] and the other side are Spuds. Luckily my Father brought me up proper, hehe.

  124. rico says:

kev & Lee, please write a post – you guys make so so many great comments it makes sense…

  125. rico says:

I have to check out now guys, Britains Got Talent is calling me, no chance of seeing Nikki B, denilson or Almunia on there so it could eb fun 😉 😉

Nighty Night All, catch you tomorrow

    🙂

  126. allezkev says:

Lee you gotta try, Rico would help. I’m gonna sit down and write something, on paper, then give to Rico and see what she thinks. I’ll put me thinking cap on.

  127. Lee says:

I’m crapping myself as I’ve gotta be a best man to a yid…..opening gambit was going to be ” I hope your marriage lasts longer than your team’s involvement in the CL?”…..what u think peeps?

  128. allezkev says:

Well Lee, if your his Best Man, then i suspect he’s gonna be expecting some banter. Sounds good to me.

  129. rico says:

    Lee

‘I hope you are joined together with happiness, happiness and love that doesn’t ever fade unlike Tottenhams usual season.

I hope your life as one is more complete than this seasons challenge for the Champions League places….

And lastly, should you both ever become successful, make sure sure your manager isn’t a crook, he’ll spend all your money and leave you in debt 😉 😉

    Boom boom 🙂

  130. rico says:

Same old rubbish kev but its funny 😉

Nighty to you Lee, and you kev, i’m def gone now….

    🙂

  131. allezkev says:

    Just a thought…concerning Jack Wilshere.

    Wenger said:
“No matter what happens I have to give him at least 4 weeks holiday. The [U21] tournamant finishes at the end of June so he won’t come back until the end of July. That means he will not be ready to play at the start of August or maybe at the beginning of September”

    England vs Holland, friendly, 10/08/2011
Bulgaria vs England, Euro Champs, 02/09/2011
England vs Wales, Euro Champs, 06/09/2011

Recipe for more conflict i wonder?????

  132. JonJon says:

    kev..
yeah wengers playing cat and mouse with everyone..
hes taking on the establishment with his comments over jack..he doesnt want him to go..and if we are honest we dont feel the need for jack to go..i think at one point or anyother i think weve all called pearce a slag for picking him..

so wengers right..and hes taking them on and calling their bluff..whats the actuall fucking point in taking him..its nonesense really so wengers giving them an ultimatum, he saying theyve got a choice..they play him now OR they play him later they cant do both..

everton are just rugged dogs of war, they are a marathon figher in the league….they start off like shit taking all the punches but they hold on for the later rounds and just slugg it out..mancity battered them for best part of an hour and they just hung on and nipped and sctrached and bit and just stayed in the fight at one nil down, then they took some chances and beat the fuckers…then they held on for the win..i though jags and distin and baines were immense, distin was exceptionally good..

  133. peat588 says:

This article is horse s**t Usmanov is worth over $19bn more than Abramovich so i doubt hes in it for the money. And Arsenal and our spinless chairman need to get a backbone and relive Mr Wenger from his duties after all 3 titles in nearly 15 years and no silverwear in past 6 years is hardly good enough for a big club like Arsenal is it??? I am saying because its not good enough for Liverpool Chelsea and even Sit Alex wudnt be allowed to go that long without delivering Fact !!! Reguardless of money spent. Wenger has been a revolation for Arsenal over the years together with trophies he has revolutionised the whole club financially on an off the pitch. But now one has to question the board and their reasons for allowing faliure season after season. The club has money to spend as we are promised every season but still no real investment on the pitch. Our youth policy is second to none but we cannot rely on that alone to deliver trophies without adding qualitiy experianced players!!! The only reason Wenger remains at the helm is because he hasnt squandered money like other managers if he had he wud have went years ago the more money a manager spends the more pressure he piles on himself if he cant deliver its that simple and hes also the boards financial think tank unlike other managers Wenger has input on almost everything financial reguarding team affairs Fact !!! So what am saying is Wenger has become affraid almost to spend big incase it dosent work out for the team then he will just be adding more pressure on top of not winning trophies because as of now hes managin a top 4 team on a bottom of table budget so from the outside looking in hes a genius right?? Wrong hes been manipulative and lied to fans reguarding transfers when he has almost totall controll over transfers budgets wages ect.. so my question is this is he more valuable to Arsenal as a Manager or sitting upstairs in the boardroom??? Because i agree with some Fans who say it would be a diasaster to loose Wenger but not as a manager as a potentiall board member.. So an Usmanov takeover might not be such a bad idea after all with his wealth he could affoard to buy out Arsenal atleast 15 times over and we certainly do need a change of direction on an off the pitch providing his credentials and intentions are good for our club then I would welcome an Usmanov takeover as a kronkee takeover we wudnt notice it for the simple reason that his ideas are the boards ideas ie let Wenger run the club when his job is to manage an not be distracted by the financial goings on in the club so in a nutshell the loss of focus by Wenger and the board has hindered us moving forward on the pitch and untill this is rectified or removed and changed then the only change we are likely to see is us slipping outside the top four in the commimg years due to the fact Man city, Spurs and Liverpool are outspending us and or soon will be knocking on the door.

  134. peat588 says:

The board will not act and dismiss wenger for the simple reason that if they did then they would risk loosing Wenger as a board member in the future so wenger ultimately holds the key to Arsenals. Future. Arsene is great at wat he does but it seems that his invaluable experiance and financial wizadry would be more suited with a seat on the Arsenal board or even Cheif Executive as he would add much more than Gazidis. It aparant to all that the loss of focus on the pitch over the past 6 years isnt all down to the players but all Wenger himself. So untill he pulls his head from his backside or the board act then Arsenal will slip futher behind Man united & Chelsea. After all a managers job is to manage the team and not run the club practically. The board needs to decide what they want Arsene Wenger to do run the club let the financial genius takeover an bring in a top class manager thats suited to Arsenals style of play someone youngish with fresh new ideas or continue as things are or sack Wenger and risk loosing him altogether. Its tricky but I know we need to see change an soon befor we its too late an we slip outside to four. Theirs nodoubt that Wenger is more than Qualified to takeover from Hill-Wood or Gazidis of become a new director of finance or football but the question is would he be able to let a new manager manage an let him deal with all team related dealings signings ect or would he become a problem for any new manager ??? Its hard to say but it for sure why Arsenal have held onto the Frenchman all these years but I feel something has got to give soon if we are to continue to stay a big club in the top four.

  135. rico says:

peat, no need to diss the article surely?

the ref to the money making is to Stan and this current board, not the Russian, he’s waiting in the wings ready to pounce i am sure….
