Respect RvP, well that’s what Arsene Wenger is asking for.

I hope it [reception] is a respectful one because he did very well for us for eight years.

We campaign against discrimination, it was still the case last week so why should it not be the case this week?

Well I am not sure that the away fans at Old Trafford tomorrow will agree with our manager!!

And what kind of comment is this to make ahead of our game at lunchtime?

In Manchester United you have good players around him. His runs are fantastic, his technique is absolutely amazing, so I’m not surprised (at his success).

What does that say about the players who were ‘around’ the Dutchman last season, all of whom are still playing for us, apart from Song. I’m actually quite surprised that Wenger felt the need to mention him, especially if the report from goal.com is true.

Anyway, who gives a toot about him, he’s long gone and we need to move on…

Today is back to the first eleven, maybe Giroud and Walcott will start, well, I hope they both do. The rest will no doubt be pretty much who we have seen all season in the PL games, injuries apart of course.

Those injured are Diaby, Gibbs, Szczesny, Rosicky, Fabianski and Gervinho. Oxlade-Chamberlain will undergo a late fitness test, or in today’s case, an early one.

We have had some battles with today’s opposition over the years haven’t we, especially since Wenger has been manager.

There was Dwight Yorke’s hat-trick in a 6-1 win for Utd. Sylvain Wiltord’s title-clinching winner at Old Trafford. There was THAT Arsenal fan’s face of celebration back in the good old days and of course, the Martin Keown versus Ruud van Nistelrooy during the Invincible season.

Not so long ago we witnessed Arsene Wenger being sent off and banished into the stand, arms outstretched and of course there was that horrid performance and result at the beginning of last season.

So what will today’s fixture give us?

Goals? Of course, plenty I suspect.

Mistakes? You bet there’ll be a few of those, especially with De Gea and Mannone keeping goal and if Santos starts at left back, well goodness knows what comedy of errors will be played out before our very own eyes.

To be honest, I’d rather Wenger played Jernade Meade instead, at least he has positional sense, ok he’s young but not too young to step up. But we know that won’t happen.

Manchester United are far from having it all their own way at OT this season, in fact they have gone behind early in three home games in a row – in the second minute against Spurs and Braga, and the 11th minute against Stoke. Fulham too went a goal ahead early in the game back in August, so if we turn up and are in the right mood, we too could get that early break.

Then of course we need to press on and score more, defend as if the players lives depend on not conceding and go onto shock Fergie, Dean and their merry men!

Head-to-head

  1. The clubs have met 215 times in all competitions, and their last clash at Old Trafford was the highest-scoring match between them – United won 8-2 in the Premier League in August 2011.
  2. Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford since September 2006, when Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal. Since then they have suffered seven defeats and one draw in all competitions.
  3. United have won six of the past 10 Premier League meetings between the clubs, with Arsenal winning two.
  4. This will be the 48th meeting in all competitions between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. Ferguson leads by 21 wins to 15.

A few Arsenal facts:

  1. We have scored fewer goals (one) in the first 30 minutes of matches than any other team in the Premier League.
  2. One of four Premier League clubs yet to drop points from winning positions this season – the others are Manchester United, Chelsea and Swansea.

So there you have it, score first and we could win if this seasons ‘ways’ are anything to go by but let Man Utd score first and it will be a long trek back.

Hopefully the squad will have watched the second half and extra time of the Reading game and learned from it. We need that kind of fighting spirit and commitment today. That is of course if we are to come away from old Trafford with anything.

Oh, and we need Mr Mike Dean to leave his Man Utd shirt, whistle and watch at home too, we really don’t want to be talking about how he robbed us out of getting something from the game….

That’s it for another day, let’s hope it’s a good one….
