Stupid Sol Campbell & Wenger promises not to spend……

Big Sol, once worshipped at White Hart Lane and more recently at Arsenal, and probably still is by most Arsenal fans to be honest.

His little ‘away day’ against West Ham was a mere blip in his Arsenal career, a career which made sure he retired from football with a few medals in his pocket!

Did he move to win trophies, or did he move because the then owner of Tottenham wouldn’t spend what would have been, the equivalent of todays £100 Million to reinforce the Tottenham squad before he left?

Well, if his recent comments are anything to go by, it is surely the latter?

For some reason, he believes that in order to keep van persie, the club needs to spend £100 Million.

Here is just a few things said by Sol:

I can understand why Van Persie has decided not to sign a new contract. When you go back to your club for pre-season, and you look around the changing room, you want to see top players around you and think, ‘Yeah, we’re going to do something this season. This is where it’s happening’.

That’s what Van Persie is looking for. And maybe he’s had a look and thought, ‘Is this it’?

Maybe it will be different in a couple of weeks, maybe there will be a cast of new faces to make him feel different.

They are making money, they are in good shape and everything is well-run… but they are not winning. The real sting is in the punchline.

Changing the manager isn’t going to make any difference. If there are any Arsenal fans who are tempted to call for Arsene Wenger to step down, is a new manager going to get any more firepower in the transfer market?

Unless someone produces £100m and Wenger brings some big signings to the club, I can’t see Van Persie changing his mind.

It’s irreversible.

Firstly, I think his comments about looking around the changing room and thinking ‘Is this is’? is quite disrespectful to the numerous international players we already have within our squad and secondly, £100 Million, well that is simply wrong, there is no way in this world does Arsene Wenger need to ask the club for that amount of money to spend in order for us to be truly competitive.

In any case, if the club can move on the deadwood, that in itself could/would be enough to sign one really good player, maybe even two, after all we have a few who, in the eyes of many fans, need to move on for the sake of their own career and of course for the club.

Squillaci

Bendtner

Arshavin

Vela

Djourou

Chamakh

Park

Fabianski

Those in my view are deadwood, some of you will probably want to add Walcott, Song and even Ramsey to that list but for me they are the base of our squad, together with the rest.

Selling all those above could give Arsene Wenger somewhere between £25-£30 Million to add to what he has already been promised he can spend.

Some suggest that amount is £25 Million, some more, and of course some believe less but in all honesty I haven’t a clue so I’m not going to guess, but I would imagine he has more than what most think, after all, we as a club are far from being broke.

Stan Kroenke may not have liked reading that letter from Red & White Holdings, that is of course if he has bothered to read it and in my opinion he has one of two choices.

Carry on the same old way and by that I mean make little change to the way we do transfers, or wake up and support Arsene Wenger by giving him the right money to make this squad a better one, one which is capable of really challenging the likes of Citeh, Utd and Chelsea.

If, and I hope he does the latter, the fans will be back on his side in a flash, however, Arsene Wenger has vowed not to change his policy in the transfer market and stands by the views of Johan Cruyff  who believes you can still be successful using a good youth set-up and by recruiting talented young players.

I totally agree with Cruyff — and I won’t change.

We’ll see over the next seven or eight weeks if that remains to be the case…

That’s it from me, have a good day all…..

“Firstly, I think his comments about looking around the changing room and thinking ‘Is this is’? is quite disrespectful to the numberous international players we already have within our squad”

If Arsene was as honest when he looked at his squad he would say the same. Sols not at the club, he isnt Mr Nice Uncle Arsene. What he said is totally correct, we are miles away in terms of quality. 19 points last season to be precise.

As for the £100m I totally agree. We literally havent spent a penny for years and years.

Weve spent £24m so far, and realistically another £76m is absolutely required to get to where RVP wants us to be in order to stay.

  2. Jerry says:

You’re an idiot who can’t use Engliush grammar correctly and has nothing interesting to say. Stay off the internet, clogging up the world wide web with your unadulterated tripe.

  3. Will says:

I wouldn’t worry too much about what Campbell thinks as thinking has casued him all sorts of problems. Whatever happened to his postplaying movie career or did Vinny Jones wisen up?

You are simply seein gwhat we saw: a very good player thanks to his speed and strength but with a mind lacking totally in the notions of truth, honour and reality. Don’t knock him, just let him wander around in Sol Land whre he now thinks that he is arespected football pundit who actually (and scarily) thinks.

Wenger knows what he is doing. he proved it to you lot last season although Fulop had a real hand in helping. but regardless of Fulop’s cheating you did overhaul what wa sonce a 13 pt lead so well done.
But don’t beleive that el Sol always shines ‘casue ‘e dont.

  4. wambam says:

Campbell forgets, he’s comparing the 3rd best side (arsenal) to his old spurs team who were mid table at best when he left them.

In fact for the last 31 games of last season we were 5 points better than man city.

  5. Thorough says:

Beautiful write up, but badly edited. Cos you want to post early doesnt mean you have to forsake the basic. Remember this may be your first article some people read and may form opinions from it.

    Morning all

gambon, my point is, a lot of what we need to spend can be raied from selling the deadwood, and Sols comments come after we have already spent on Podolski and Giroud..

Spend a £100 Million from today, I really don’t think we need to…

  7. gambon says:

    rico

Im pretty sure he didnt mean we must spend exactly £100m, while calculating the prices of Giroud/Podolski and also not forgetting to deduct the £500k for Ozyakup.

Its a figure of speech, we basically need to go out and be serious in the market.

Giroud & Podolski are a great start.

However we still finish 3rd at best next season, at best!

  8. rico says:

Thorough, thanks for your wise words, but had you read the last post, you would see that i have internet probs and the post was set by time, its now spell checked etc – talk football if you want, but this post, nor any other is out there for grading by pompass bloggers like you!!

  9. clockendjim says:

Although I agree that Campbell’s remarks are somewhat disrespectful, you then destroy your criticism by going on to list all the ‘deadwood’ that are on the books. If you are a world-class player like Van Persie and saw that lot around you, then you could only come to that conclusion.
And who signed all these duff players in the first place; a certain Mr Wenger who ‘knows best’ according to some blinkered fans !?
If the current policy of the manager and the board continues, then we are permanently in the situation of chasing a 4th place spot. Perhaps we will have to get used to being just also-rans. I am not sure if this will continue to fill a 60,000 seat stadium every match though, then the sums really will not add up.

  10. rico says:

Gambon – if he didn’t mean £100 M – he should have not said it!

I still maintain we don’t need to spend ‘that’ much to make us true contenders..

Hi Danish, it’s not the best, I’d agree there….

  11. rico says:

Clockend – most of those i listed either haven’t played or are on loan, they don’t have a chance of making the squad and they need to be gone asap…

  12. Nedox says:

Hey rico, i totally agree it you. Spendin 100 to keep 1 player is nuts! Moreover, the cash isnt there. I say(emphasis on i) Keep him, not as captain though, take a shot at the FA and carling cups and the money recouped, should we win, wil make up for the 15mil he would have been sold.

  13. rico says:

Hi Nedox – I’m not sure that he would stay even if AW did reinforce the squad – personally i hope we don’t make him stay, not sure it would be fair to those who do want to be at the club…

Def not captain if he does stay…

  14. gambon says:

    Rico, im not sure.

We have only once scored 90 points in the current era and we had absolute world class players throughout the team.

It takes 90 points to win the PL, and to get there we need to significantly improve every area.

Deep down Wenger must know this but he has been in denial ever since Mourinho absolutely destroyed him 7 years ago.

  15. gambon says:

Its not about spending £100m to keep RVP

Its about spending £100m to compete again, which is what RVP wants.

  16. rico says:

Regardless of what we think Gambon, under this ownership, we won’t be spending £100M between now and the 31st Aug.

Tbh, if AW signs a DM, CB and a GK and we don’t lose any more players other than most of those above, I’d be quite happy…

  17. Breezy says:

Where does Sol think we’re going to get this 100m? where are the wages for these players going to come from? the fact is no club that runs on the basis of earning income before spending can compete with the moneybag clubs (with the exception of Man U)

On a separate note Park can be removed from that list , apparently he had no offers and is staying.

  18. Nedox says:

Clockendjim, no team in the world, even in football manager, is made up of 25 superstars. There must be ‘deadwoods’. And be reminded that wenger also signed your ‘world class’ van persie. When did he even become world class? Last season! Pffft..

  19. Adam says:

Van Persie has been ” a world class player” for about 12 months. Man Utd finished loads of points ahead of Arsenal. Do you think that van Persie looks through their team and sees “world class players “? Is Rooney still “a world class player”? Welbeck, Jones, Nani, De Gea? Chelsea won the CL. Who, at Chelsea is a “world class player”? It’s just a lazy term and means very little. And as for you Jerry. I would say you are a “world class idiot”.

  20. rico says:

I think most people know that gambon, no one man, player, manager or other is bigger than our club…

I think we need to spend half of that amount added to any further funds we raise on sales of the deadwood

  21. rico says:

Hi Breezy – it’s early day re Park 😉

Actually, I am probably one of few who would not mind if we kept Park..

  22. rico says:

Good morning Adam, good point about ‘world class’ and as much as RvP has had a world class season, who has been around him to set his opportunities up??

Also, we should not forget that towards the end of the season he struggled big time, when we needed to get that ‘3 points’ to secure 3rd place, he went missing….

  23. Nedox says:

Gambon, i take my first comment back. You are actually more constructive here than on LG. Cheers!

Exactly my point Adam. “world class” is the biggest cliche in football right now. By the way, huntelaar score 48goals last term, havent heard him being called ‘world class’. Just saying…

  24. gambon says:

Rico of course no one is bigger than Arsenal.

However the constant transition is absolutely astonishing.

Just 3 years ago our attack, which was a good attack, was built around Adebayor, VanPersie, Bendtner, Walcott, Arshavin, Nasri & Cesc.

As of August 2012 they all will have gone.

The turnover of players alone makes it impossible for us to win anything.

  25. rico says:

    Thanks nedox..

Bendtner, Walcott, Adebayor, Arshavin & Nasri

Well, if they stayed, a lot of fans would just moan about them anyway

    Ade – always offside
    Theo – blind alley runner
Nik – simply hopeless in front of goal
Nasri – half a season wonder
Cesc – always injured/wengers love child

That is the kind of comments we read on the blogs about the players, so why be so upset if they go??

  26. gambon says:

    Bit unfair on RVP

He has 48 goals in 56 PL games.

I would love to know how many players have done that in the history of the PL? Henry maybe, Van Nstelrooy, Shearer & Henry at best probably?

Since he became a regular first XI, raher than a bench player he has 86 in 144 games, half of that time he was in the number 10 role.

When fit he has been absolutely essential to our game, obviously his problem has been staying fit, which he is over now.

Interesting that every time a player leaves us they suddenly become shit/and or they will obviously be on the bench wherever they go.

  27. nic p says:

after reading all the comments , it really made me laugh this is all about arse nal not winning anything !! van p has had his day there and needs to move on !! pps i will be glad when modric goes , because between him and harry ,ithink it mucked spurs up this season !! nic p yiddo from sunny clacton x

  28. rico says:

Its real though gambon, no-one is suggesting he’s not a great player, but it’s been a short career so far, of course that is not his fault becuase he’s suffered so many injuries but, one outstanding season and he’s trying to pull the strings…

And as someone said the other day, don’t suppose he was worrying about who was in the squad when he was in the treatment room….

I really hoped he would stay and backup his comments about his love for the club etc but it seems he’s happy to cast that aside and move on…

  29. Nedox says:

Gambon make no mistake, rvp is a wonderful player. The best in epl, thats why i champion for him to be retained atleast one more season. Cos on matter what, we are better with him on our side!

FYI: even with 48 goals i still think robin is better than huntelaar. I wasn’t comparing when i mentioned him.

  30. David says:

I’m a spurs can- this appeared on our newsnow feed.

As far ad goals go rvp had an excellent season no doubting that, but over his arsenal career he has an average of 16 of games (not counting last year) and fewer than 20 goals a season. He is trying to engineer a move yes, but I think that’s beat for arsenal. You can get 20 million (had he not made his statement you could have got nearer 35 but I think 25 is now the top end) for an aging injury prone striker. He was almost your Darren Anderton he spent so much time out sick.

Add to that song laid half his goals for him on a plate and he becomes infinitely more replaceable.

No wenger doesnt like to spend, no he won’t get 100 million but he is changing. Look at the four players you’ve brought in this window and last, players that will slip in to the first team not squad players. You do still need a dm ou need a other striker but sol Campbell is grandstanding because his name isn’t talked about anymore. He did it with the euros too and look how wrong he was there- any body bags?

  31. gambon says:

“Gambon make no mistake, rvp is a wonderful player. The best in epl”

This is why I cant understand why fans dont think he should be well paid.

Shouldnt the best player in the PL be the best paid?

  32. DutchGooner10 says:

Our consistent and loyal regular JM who is not for sale btw. posted this yesterday. Read and make your checks and balances.

For most of Robin van Persie’s eight years at Arsenal, success has stayed frustratingly out of reach.

The team has looked poised for glory, only to lose key players and take a step backwards.

At 29, time is not Van Persie’s friend and his desire to win at the club – cited in his statement on Wednesday – is completely understandable.

He has not submitted a transfer request, nor has he gone on a three-month golf break in Argentina. He has merely stated that he will not renew his contract, which is entirely his right.

But what does he hope to achieve by leaving? Win trophies, he says.

Of course, it is entirely possible that ‘trophies’ is a byword for ‘money’.

The teams that win things also pay the most. So why not say you’re motivated by silverware, and if there happens to be a £250,000-a-week contract in it – well, that’s just a nice perk.

I don’t know what’s going on in Van Persie’s head, and you’d be an idiot to say money plays no part at all – but I believe he is motivated primarily by a genuine desire to put some pots on his mantelpiece before he retires.

Winning offers validation; ‘proof’ that you can perform when it matters.

We confuse players with the teams they represent. Van Persie could be remembered in the same way as his Arsenal team – exciting and talented, but falling some way short of true greatness.

Somehow, playing for a successful team – in any capacity – insulates you from criticism.

Look at the way we mock Alan Shearer, who lifted just a single trophy in his brilliant career.

He rejected Manchester United, preferring instead to join his hometown club with whom he won nothing.

Shearer is one of the greatest players of his generation (of any nationality), yet there is a large consituency of people who will remember him as the guy who turned down a decade of baubles.

During Euro 2012, when he rather unwisely said Mario Balotelli had “done nothing in the game yet”, critics gleefully pointed out the Italian’s eight major honours including a Champions League, a Premier League and three Serie A titles.

Shearer’s criticism was clumsy – but not entirely wrong.

Success should be measured by more than trophies. Has Balotelli performed consistently over a sustained period? Has he proven himself a good team-mate? Has he refrained from letting himself and his colleagues down? Clearly not.

That was Shearer’s point. And being a truculent, mercurial presence for successful teams does not make Balotelli better than Shearer, however many open-top bus parades he has been on.

What if Shearer had joined Manchester United instead of, say, Andy Cole?

He would have won things, for sure. But they won things anyway. Shearer’s impact at Old Trafford could never compare with his importance to Newcastle, where he is still revered.

This European trophy-worship is not shared across the pond, where a different attitude prevails.

Americans would lionise Shearer for his loyalty and consistency – they would judge him on his extraordinary ability and not the number of championships. Nobody judges Peyton Manning’s time as Indiananpolis Colts quarterback a failure because he won ‘only’ one Super Bowl in 13 years.

Two years ago, when NBA star LeBron James left Cleveland for Miami, he was widely criticised.

Not just for abandoning an historically ill-starred team, but for shunning his responsibilities as a top player.

If he had won a title at Cleveland – and he came close – it would have been his team, his triumph.

Instead he went to play with fellow stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh – it was considered a cop-out, a betrayal of his duty to prove himself.

He was meant to be a leader, and instead he took the easy option.

That is how I will feel if Van Persie joins Manchester City (current 1/2 favourites to sign him at the time of writing).

Yes, he’ll win, but how much satisfaction will he be able to take? City are already Premier League champions. And they will almost certainly be champions again, with or without him.

Would Van Persie make City better? Yes, a little bit.

But he will not be the captain, he will not be a leader, he will not be the man his team-mates, manager and supporters rely on to carry the load.

He will be just another part of an ensemble – like Samir Nasri at City, or Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona.

    Where’s the glory in that?

    Alex Chick – @alexchick81

  33. Somalian Gooner says:

Campbells right, our squad is crap. We got lucky last year and if Rvp thinks about our last game against W Brom he would probably beg to leave. Maybe he wants Fulop to sign!
We should of gone for Avb, lets be honest about it half of us wanted him. Wenger out.

  34. DutchGooner10 says:

Mornings Rico. You found yourself in a Wenger situation hey………..

    ITK’s siege us.

  35. Charlie George aka AK says:

    Jerry, it’s English, not Engliush.
Nobody can use Engliush grammar on here.
    You must be an expert?
    Well, you must be something?!

    Morning AKB’s
    GREAT POST RICO.
    Something from another non-news day.
Don’t know how you do it.
Must be all those Engliush lessons……..

  36. gambon says:

    rico

No, it actually is significantly due to wages. Although I 100% believe he hasnt brought this up with the club yet.

  37. RON says:

  39. Terry says:

Hi guys, any update on diaby, wilshare and rosickys fitness… will anyone be available for pre season games??
also dont know how we can buy before we sell.
this is our midfield: diaby, wilshare, rosicky, arteta, song, coquellen, lansbury, frimpong, ramsay, arshavin thats 10 players.
we need to take deceisions now… look at the fitness of our players and then deceide what next to be done.

  40. Merlin96 says:

    Afternoon all.

Wasn’t that what I wrote a few days back on RInus Michels “Ajax Model of Team Building”? 😆

Onto Merlins Post – Part 2 of Arsene Wengers Circulation Football:

“A belief that championship side can be nurtured by building a core group of youngsters from Hale End Academy to senior team playing together and develop that telepathic understanding and Special Togetherness so vital in modern football.”

Arsene Wenger was determined to impose his “Circulation Football” philosophy onto the team; and he started a major and massive re-structuring project after the 2003/04 season.

It was a combination of the Ajax youth system and Barcelona’s policy of scouting the global market to sign-up the best youth players for his Hale End Academy with Thierry Henry and Fabregas as the fulcrum of his 3rd Team.

Arsene Wenger’s ambition was to build his 3rd and greatest Arsenal team from ground level starting at Hale End Academy.

But within the next two years, how many of Wenger Wunderkind from Hale End Academy plus those 16 years old that he bought made it into the 3rd Team?

  41. Breezy says:

I agree with Rico, RvP should be allowed to leave, most fans weren’t happy with the statement he released and i for one think his position is untenable at Arsenal. he should be allowed to leave asap so we can start planning without him.

@ somalian Gooner, half of us wanted AVB? Funny you’re the first Gooner I heard pushing that one.

  42. Devilgunner says:

    Good Morning Fine Folk.

Typical of newspapers and internet sites to go to an ex player who for a few quid jump on to the bandwagon and slag AFC off. That way they get to selling their crap.

So good post in reminding us how insensitive some persons may be. Yes they may be right, but saying those things in public just for the sake of sticking the knife in is just not on.

  43. rico says:

    gambon –

until RvP says he is moving for money, you are just guessing its about money, he has said its about the way the club want to go forward…

    Your view is not factual…

  44. rico says:

Somalian Gooner – AvB??? You have to be kidding….

Morning devil – spot on, Sol should go back to getting on with his lfe…

  45. Breezy says:

@ Terry i know Wilshire is out for the first month of the season.

I see Fiorentina have made apprantly made a bid for Chamakh,

  46. Breezy says:

@devil and Rico, now that Sol has “officially” retired i expect we’ll be hearing an awful lot from him.

  47. rico says:

    Hi Merlin – big-head 😆 😆

Breezy, the club won’t miss out on the money we could get from selling him I am sure – dregardless of them suggesting otherwise…

  48. rico says:

Hi Terry – Diaby, Rosicky and Arteta should all be fit, Jack, well I wouldn’t be suprised if he is fit too….

  49. Cunnio@csunny.com says:

“wake up and support Arsene Wenger by giving him the right money to make this squad a better one”.

Erm. The right money is a billion mate, which is what City spent for the title. How do you suggest we do that. Because if you have any other examples of clubs that won a title without such financial support other than Manchester United (who now are second best to City), please let me know. And don’t mention Madrid or Barca, they are vehicles for banks.

  50. gambon says:

    Rico

You really arent putting the pieces of the puzzle together are you?

What is RVPs problem? You can be sure its not the time the training sessions are held, or the pies available in the stadium.

  51. DutchGooner10 says:

Who’s to say RvP’s antics haven’t blown Wengers plans straight out of the water. By his public revelations he could have overthrown negotiation tables elsewhere. World class suddenly stalling talks as an internal scrum is beyond their vision to step up their career. Maybe some even chuckled at the prospect of RvP leading the troops as well as the frontline. He not only gambles his own future but the club’s as well.

With his emphasis on ‘ again became clear ‘ it seems that he’s referring to have been questioning our ambitions from the beginning of last season’s transfer drama. Only to be silent as timing was missing for leverage. The current window is about a week old. RvP could have stretched his patience a bit longer for the benefit of the club. Whatever his decision would be.

  52. Adam says:

Tell you what. Why don’t we all make up stuff that suits our particular theories and neuroses? Then we can all tell anyone who will listen that we predicted it months ago. As long as it’s all in Engliush so Jerry can join in.

  53. Rupert says:

I agree with Somalian Gooner, Wenger out. Avb was a lot of Gooners choice and now we miss out. We then get a giant French donkey with a small dick and a German striker who aint German and aint good enough to play as a striker! We are a laughing stock. Get a grip people.

  54. Breezy says:

@ agreed, the clubs stance on RvP is merely a message to potential buyers that we won’t accept a pittance for him (Juve we’re looking at you). if someone wants him they will have to pay what we’re asking or close thereto.

  55. Adam says:

Gambon. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what van Persie’s problem is? RIco obviously hasn’t managed to work it out as you so charitably mention.

  56. Nedox says:

DG, i really didn’t know shearer turned down man utd. But thats the point, no one really cares..he is a legend of the game! Which he achieved at blackburn and newcastle…not man utd. Rvp blew his ‘legend’ claims with that statement! Believe me, he wont be remembered after his retirement, no matter how good he happens to be. #Good name is better than stinking cash, any day!

Gambon, he deserves top wages, but Arsenal cant pay him that and anybody that says its not about the money(re: his depature) should think twice. He knows we wont pay him more than 120 or thereabout, while at other clubs, the starting point will be 160 or thereabout. So…

  57. Dan says:

Kroenke is totally the wrong man to own Arsenal, he cares nothing for the club and has a business model of not spending much and running a tight ship for all his sporting interests, problem is that Arsenal are more than just a business, we’re a football club and we have expectations that he can’t fulfill with his puny investment. We’d be much better off financially under Usmanov though problem with him is he can’t keep him big mouth shut and is very unsophisticated to be a club owner at Arsenal. It’s amazing that Wenger has stuck around so long under these conditions. The board get fat whilst us fans get mediocrity and the loss of our best players every season. Sooner or later this will have to change. Campbell is just telling it like it is for top players, they are guns for hire, there is no genuine loyalty unless the team is successful or the players can’t get a better deal elsewhere.
We still have a great base to build on at Arsenal, if we sold RVP and bought Javi Martinez and one more top class striker we might still have a really good season.

  58. f says:

We spent £51.2million last season on players,
    £74 approx back on transfers
you could say we balance the books most seasons always have done.

Podolski and Giroud,in my opinion these two players would have cost us £40million.
We agreed a fee for Podolski in Jan/2012 to cologne(undisclosed) the reason we paid up front was cologne were in a relagation fight and wanted to build for the new seasons lower division.

Giroud had a buy-out clause in his contract, the chairman when asked in January what he thought on his value over 75 million euros he stated.

    2 great signings I think

So at the moment we are a buying club 1st week of the transfer window,
because we moved in quick to get these two cheap in real terms,

only chelsea(money bags) have spent more so far.

Rvp says he wants star names to sign for us.Well who the fuck do you want then Robin if its not money?

  59. gambon says:

“Gambon, he deserves top wages, but Arsenal cant pay him that”

See this is where youre very wrong.

Huge difference between ‘cant pay’ and ‘wont pay’

  60. goonster says:

whoa, that jerry dude must have had a rotten pickled sandwich for breakfast………..what a loser. morning good people.

  61. Adam says:

So, are we to completely ignore the only statement van Persie has actually made on the subject and form our own hypotheses? If I read you right, you are saying it is purely about money and Arsenal could but won’t pay what he wants?

  62. gambon says:

    Adam

Its all there in his speech

“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days”

  63. rico says:

gambon – i have my views, you have yours, my point is neither you nor i know the facts as to why RvP really wants to leave – but you amke your comments like ‘you know everything’ – you don’t..

  64. goonster says:

morning big guy, is there a siege on here? where’s W.A.T.H when you need him? probably sipping on GG huh? lucky bastard.

  65. goonster says:

oh boy, here we go again……………gambon and rico going all around in circles. dont you guys ever get dizzy? sheesh.

  66. rico says:

gambon – it’s clear you are here to tell us all that you know everything, well enough is enough….

    It’s tiresome, tedious and boring…

I’m sure you have somewhere else to go, but for now its not here….

  67. frednerk says:

We spent £51.2million last season on players,
    £74 approx back on transfers
you could say we balance the books most seasons always have done.

Podolski and Giroud,in my opinion these two players would have cost us £40million.
We agreed a fee for Podolski in Jan/2012 to cologne(undisclosed) the reason we paid up front was cologne were in a relagation fight and wanted to build for the new seasons lower division.

Giroud had a buy-out clause in his contract, the chairman when asked in January what he thought on his value over……75 million euros he stated.

At the moment we are a buying club(we do have dead wood to sell I know)

So only chelsea(money bags) have spent more than us so far.

Rvp says its not money he wants,

Well..What the fuck do you want robin..Who do you want robin

Please let us know? I know you read this blog mate.

  68. goonster says:

you know what, am just gonna say this if R.I.P wants to leave then fuck him. we are not going to change our whole club just to keep him. what an ingrate and as a fellow dutchman…………..i am really ashamed!

  69. Adam says:

Come on Gambon. Spit it out. Firstly you infer it’s about the money, now it’s about the trophies? Doesn’t he also state that it is not about money? If so, how can anyone cherry pick the bits that support their particular theory and offer that with any sense of credibility. I have a theory and an opinion, but that’s all it is. I haven’t spoken to van Persie nor anyone at the club so I do not claim it is true. It is just based on my observations and limited understanding of the way people are. But I would never claim it to be fact.

  70. Charlie George aka AK says:

Afternoon Adam, dear me, I never knew that you was a fluent Engliush speaker?!
Similar grammar to Germush and Dutsh.

  71. goonster says:

spot on fred……..who has barca or madrid bought? even the oil rich creeps at manchester have had a sniff in the transfer window yet. flog the injury prone, one legged bastard! keeping him will disrupt the dressing room. we lost cesc and fat ass last season yet we managed to finish third. cut him loose. he is an ingrate. horse placenta weaving idiot. boy, i hate him more than ade and nasri combined!

  72. Adam says:

Kev. I have a degree in Engliush and my spell checker is set to that particular language. In fact, Jerry was my tutor. He taught everythiung I know.

  73. rico says:

Gambon is in the bin, i have to go out and i can’t be doing with all that today..

    Fido needs a walk…

    Back shortly….

  74. devilgunner says:

RVP a LEGEND?????? He never was and never will be.With or without that statement. Even if he stayed. He will never be spoken in the same breath as TA, TH, DB, DR.

Nedox……..he deserves top wages, but Arsenal cant pay him that and anybody that says its not about the money(re: his depature) should think twice. He knows we wont pay him more than 120 or thereabout, while at other clubs, the starting point will be 160 or thereabout. So…

I agree with that 100% mate.

  75. Adam says:

Good and bad Rico. Good because he is a loudmouth who is looking to promote himself and bad because I think we were just about to see his opinion for what it was, an opinion. Sill, LG offers him ample opportunity to show what bed-wetting can lead to in later life.

  76. Adam says:

Morning Devil. Following on from yesterday’s parting posts, you say central Med. Wouldn’t that be Malta?

  77. DutchGooner10 says:

Mornings Goonie leadership goes beyond personal quests and a lauded season doesn’t it? As long as you’re under contract your accountable to protect the club’s interests. No 2 ways about.

  78. goonster says:

wow you are on fire there adam…….are you ok big fella? hey devil shut up, R.I.P is a legend too……….the treatment tables at colney ll miss him.

  79. Charlie George aka AK says:

Wow, Adam, looks as if I got Jerry all wrong!
    He sounds an educated man/woman/cyborg…
Have you met his best friend Tom?

  80. The real Will says:

Great entries the last few days guys. Seems to me the world and his wife have opinions on Arsenal at the moment, I will wait until we can’t get any new players to form judgement.

  81. devilgunner says:

Adam………central mediterrenean has the island of Sicily, lower part of Italy, parts of Greece, the Maltese archipelago. 😉

I like Northern Italy most. 🙂

Goody for you Rico. Rubbish is best kept in the bin and not swept under the carpet.

No Goonie. RVP never was, is and will not be a legend. His status as a permanent occupier of the treatment table is legendary.

  82. DutchGooner10 says:

Stan was just enjoying my coffee and ready to see Gambit be stripped of his jamboree badges. 😛

  83. goonster says:

are you smoking harshish devil? that’s what i just said. or is it the mediterrenean messing you up. how’s the family devil? having a good time huh? lucky. am so jealous.

  84. Adam says:

Goonie. I was waiting for confirmation that you had been exiled before I booked my passage. 🙂

  85. devilgunner says:

I do enjoy going out mate. Especially late in the evening. Tbh I do with what I have. The missus and I, given the chance, would go to live in the alps. We go there practically every summer. Same village and same lodgings all the time. Then we explore all the area by ourselves. We walk a lot together. Here we have lots of promenades and beaches so we do our walks there. But as I said, given the chance we would go up there.

  86. devilgunner says:

No Adam mate. We do not live in Northern Italy. That is my wish though. You guessed rightly the first time mate. 😉

  87. Adam says:

Devil. I have never been there but live opposite a lovely Maltese couple who are always telling me I should go. One day soon I am sure. The English have a long time connection with the Island I think.

  88. devilgunner says:

It is a nice country mate. Lots of historical places (if you like them), lots of sea scenery, we are all multicultural here. And practically everyone speaks the English language. You get good service in hotels, especially in the town where I live.

My wife and I like the countryside though. And mountains. And rivers. That is why we prefer the Alps.

  89. devilgunner says:

Hi Lady. Sure there is not dirt left under the carpet and that it has all been binned??? 😉

You are soaking in rain……….we are soaking in sweat. 38 degrees today.

  90. rico says:

I see that gambon has gone running back home to call me names, what a prize plank that man is…. 😆

  91. devilgunner says:

ARSENE WENGER has criticised Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Cesc Fabregas for “destroying” his plans for Arsenal by leaving the club in their prime.

But despite these desertions, the Frenchman says he will stick to his policy of building a team around young players, following the example set by Johan Cruyff who proved you can win the Champions League without spending millions when he took Ajax to victory against AC Milan in 1995.

“I totally agree with Cruyff — and I won’t change,” Wenger told the Sun.

“The only sad thing is that sometimes your work is destroyed by others. You want to see a player in his prime doing it for your club. But it does not work like that all the time.

“I am a victim of that. I lost Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Cesc Fabregas at an age where they should have been playing their best football for Arsenal. But I never left the club when I could have.”

Wenger claims he “could have left 10 times to join another club” but didn’t do so because he was determined to continue with his Arsenal dream. “Besides, money was never a motivation for me,” he said.

Wenger appears to have made his comments in answer to last week’s complaint by Alisher Usmanov, Arsenal’s second largest shareholder, that the departure of Robin van Persie could be blamed on the club’s board.

“The situation with our captain and outstanding performer from last season, Robin van Persie, sums this up,” Usmanov said in a letter to the Arsenal board. “Yet again we are faced with losing our true marquee player because we cannot assure him of the future direction and give confidence that we can win trophies.”

Usmanov wants leading shareholder Stan Kroenke to commit more cash to the club to enable it to pay off the debts accrued in building the new Emirates Stadium. Only then, Usmanov believes, can Arsenal afford to be competitive in the transfer market.

Asked what he thought about the calls from Usmanov and many Arsenal supporters for increased spending, Wenger said: “The emotion is over-ruling analysis now. Every word is being enlarged to ridiculous height. Millions of people have an opinion now on it all.”

Among those millions was one commenter who responded to the Sun interview like this: “I don’t blame Wenger, he has no control over the outdated wage structure or transfer funds. Getting rid of Wenger will not change anything – the board is the problem and until they go we will continue selling our best players.” ·

  92. devilgunner says:

I am off now mates. Will be on HH later on in the evening…..after a good walk.

    Cu Fine Folk.

  93. goonster says:

wow rico all soaked! boy, what i ll give to see such glorious sight……erm *coughs* are you by any chance wearing a see through tight dress. yaoooza….

  94. goonster says:

can i just say this………anybody comparing giroud to chamakh has to have their heads examined. i ve just spent the last hour combing the internet for giroud’s clips and from what i ve seen………boy we ve got a real poacher on our hands. this guy does everything, from holding up play to scoring scorchers. and for a big guy he’s very quick. giroud and podolski if fit will fire us to glory in two seasons time. mark my words and you know am never wrong.

  95. rico says:

goonster – the reason some say that is because they link the price of a player to their ability and quality. Giroud has done very well for his club last season and if he brings that form to the PL in the red and white of our club, he’ll should shut his critics up quickly.

However, there will always be idiots who won’t even give him a chance….

  96. goonster says:

he also scores a awful lot of volley………in a year’s time we ll be saying robin who….

  97. rico says:

Vertonghen deal to the spuds is done….

Becks and Victoria have flown over for the wimbledon final 🙂

  98. rico says:

goonster – you could very well be right in your view, and i sure hope so, same with Podolski…

The PL is different though, they may need a few weeks/months to settle, then again they may just rip it apart….

  99. goonster says:

his hold up play is phenomenal. his heading technique is out of this world. am telling ya him and podo ll be a handle for most defenses. am over our crock persie now. flog him pronto.

  100. rico says:

goonster – i’d still rather rvp be a part of our attacking unit, we’d be a true force up front..

Now though we need to sign two players to stop conceding 49 goals….

  101. rico says:

    How come alan???

Why and where exactly do we need to spend £100 Million to make this current squad a real force in all competitions?

  102. alanbstardmp says:

Rico, how much does a very good player cost? One geezer, tens of millions. This can be softened a bit by selling the also rans

There should be a salary cap and no foreigners

  103. rico says:

I disagree alan, the overseas players have made the PL what it is today, did you moan when we signed Dennis Bergkamp??

As for a very good players cost, well, Podolski cost £11M and Giroud very similar, so there is your answer…

However, if you are talking about players like Hazard, who’s price is based on media reports and media buffoons value, then a lot more…

Torres for £50 Million says it all imho….

  104. Adam says:

I think someone else tried that in the 1930s and it didn’t work out too well. There is no future in racism, in sport or life. And I am sure we all want to watch the quality of players that England showed up with at the Euros don’t we?

  105. rico says:

Totally agree Adam… Black, white, pink yellow, who really gives a hoot – cut the skin and we all bleed….

    Hey, it’s only 2012 isn’t it….

  106. Adam says:

Rico. Attention seekers like Gambon should be ignored. I wouldn’t worry about his opinions. Don’t feed the troll. When asked to support his views he lost the plot quite quickly I thought. There was none of the unique insight he promised, just a load of opinion and half baked ideas masquerading as facts.

  107. rico says:

Sometimes though Adam, it grinds, it did today for me…. And then seeing that idiot write what he did on LG… & all because I don’t happen to buy his ‘facts’!

    Unreal….

  108. Adam says:

I could sense the tension and your frustration Rico. But, let’s face it, he’s where he belongs now so he can continue his abuse over there and we can go back to having an open and friendly debate with a few laughs thrown in. But, it will not have escaped your attention that, as soon as his views were challenged point by point, he just sort of melted away as a credible voice.

  109. Merlin96 says:

WHo has the best chance to replace Walcoot?

    Scott Sinclair?
    Ben Arfa?
    Or another “unknown” buy?

I think that blind alley runner’s head had bene turned by that 20-minute cameo at Euro2012 and beleive he is not indispensable in England team.

Did Wenger learnt anything from Nasri_Cesc Saga in July 2011?
Deja vu in July 2012 now with RvP-Walcott Saga isn’t it?

Maybe with both gone, Wenger will not buy, and retain Arshavin adn Vela promising them at least 20 starts, then it will be Giroud-Vela pairing or Giroud-Arshaivn pairing?

  110. rico says:

Adam – that was the final straw for me – when someone questioned his view, he had nothing – HH is better than that and by that I mean you all….

  111. Merlin96 says:

I think the burning question is not who replaces RvP, but whether Gazidis will lose hsi credibility by proclaiming a few months back that “RvP will not be sold for any price.”

And whether Wenger will carry out his threat to hold RvP for one more season..like he held Cesc back for 2010/11 season.

Either way, a 29 year old Van Persie will have no choice but to play out of his skins to persuade his ABu DHabi CIty to pay 25-mil in January 2013 to secure his lucrative pension funds……or as alleged to sign a pre-Bosman deal with Milan in Jan 2013 “to win titles and trophies”..at 200,000pw of course.

I will rather Wenger forces Van Persie to stayfor one more crucial season to allow Poldolski and Giroud to ease into ENglish FOotball as well as to develop Wenger Wunderkind like Benik Afobe and OX for one more season, training and playing together with RvP.

If Wenger wants to win 2012/13 title and silverware, he has no choice but to force Van Persie to stay for one more season.

Hang that 20 to 25-mil “loss in transfer fee” then.

This is the nucleus of 2011/12 and 2012/13 which is crucial to our title challenge for next season:

    ……………………………Szczesny

    ….Sagna…..Koscielny………Vermaelen………..Gibbs

    ……………….Song……………………..Arteta
    ……………………………..Rosicky

    …Walcott……………….Van Persie……………Poldolski

    Reserves:
    1 – Mertesacker
    2 – Santos
    3 – Jenkinson
    4 – Coquelin
    5 – Frimpong
    6 – Wilshere
    7 – Ramsey
    8 – OX
    9 – Benik Afobe
    10- Gervinho
    11- Giroud
    12- Yennaris
    13- Bellerin
    14- Miquel
    15- Djourou
    16- Aneke
    17- Conor Henderson
    18- Tomas Eisfield
    19- DIaby
    20- new buy?
    21- new buy?
    22- new buy?

Just look at squad with at least 11 players having play more than 30 games togetehr last season.
We need that continuity to develop that telepathic understanding with Walcott and Van Persie to score at least 40 goals for 2012/13.

  112. Merlin96 says:

RvP said he will not sign a new contract.

Did RvP ever said that he wanted to leave like Nasri and Cesc?

  113. Joaquim Moreira says:

    afternnon all
    Verthongen sign for totts
they offer 45 millions for Hulk upper then chelsea offer
M.U wants Moutinho. 30 millions. Porto wants more. If Porto sell Hulk I think they don’t need, for the moment, Moutinho money.
I read everywhere TW wants a big wage for staying. The football players don’t understand that European wold are changing and just a very few clubs can spend this amount of money. Even in Brazil, they start to buy players (Forlan,Seedorf,,) and not sell to Europe. The wages in Barzil are raise and in Europe are fall down. For the moment, League Champions is the most important club competiiton of the world but the gap between more or less 6 clubs and the others, do it will lose quality, interest and investment.

  114. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico dear see how LG members go nose to nose with him. Justice serviced best cold.

Gambon, don’t take your stupidity and vile to Rico’s site, leave it here ..yeah?

  115. CowboyGunner says:

Great site with great banter and even better insight. Awesome views from all over taken with a grain of salt after each read.

Let RVP go to City. If Barton wasn’t such a clown, who knows if they even would have beat QPR that day and won the EPL? Let him join the other side, and it will be all that more glorious to beat them! Sure losing would suck, but we should fear no one. That sure is easy to type though….though a bit tricky on my tablet.

There is no drama like the drama of sport…and I’m a theatre teacher! RVP will break down again…with or without us. Though I have ulcers from being an Arsenal and Cowboys fan, it is not a choice anymore. I have watched my teams promise everything only to end up despairingly short. Go back a few seasons and both crumbled after leading the fight. Each season they parallel each other. It’s hard!

However, I would not trade those disappointments for victories with any other club. Our time will come, Gooners.

Sorry all I have is drivel and no analysis. Still
kinda buzzed in Vegas. I look forward to learning, agreeing, disagreeing, and being dumbfounded by the posts here.

  116. goonster says:

cowboy that did bring tears to my eyes…..good to know there are still real gooners out there. thanks pal.

  117. Adam says:

Me too Rico. Just made linguine with chilli tomato pesto, a few finely chopped black olives and sprinkled with Parmesan. Quite acceptable.

  118. Lee says:

Evening all….. fiesty bunch you lot, hey? The sweaty sock came second, beautiful…..
Just read through the comments the one that tickled me the most was the chap that slagged off the grammar on here, sirry irriot! 😆

  119. Lee says:

My wife cooked a leg of lamb stuffed with cloves of garlic, anchovies & rosemary. Served up with all the usual trimmings…

  120. rico says:

I think my dinner just about summed up my day, oven chips in a pitta with chilli sauce and mayo 😆

  121. Lee says:

I was stood on a touch line at 8.30am in Sudbury in the pouring rain watching my 7yr old son play in a football tournament……that’s where I’ve been young Stanley!

  122. Adam says:

Any left for a sandwich Lee? Not that I eat meat you understand – and certainly not chicken. Have you been to The Square Lee? I’ve had to turn down lunch there this week and I have been intrigued for ages, since my mate raved about it.

  123. goonster says:

can we get back to the arsenal now? all this food talking is making me dizzy before you know it adam and miss posh ll get into shoes with grand pa AK. this is a football blog people.

  124. Adam says:

Not much news in the world of Arsenal this evening Goonie. Things will start to hot up soon so this is the lull before the storm of transfers. (I wish).

  125. Adam says:

Me too Stan. Actually I saw a picture of Carol Vooderman in skin tight jeans on the iPad just before I ate and it nearly put me off my dinner altogether. Just who is telling that woman that she looks good in figure-hugging clothes? Gawd Blimey!

  126. Lee says:

Adam I’ve not eaten there but several of my colleagues have and they all raved about it. Definitely on the to visit list.
    It’s worth a go Rico!!
My mate just text me saying we are trying to sign Victor Moses, I really rate him and isn’t he an Arsenal supporter??

  127. Adam says:

Anyway, I sense a low level of enthusiasm for meaningless banter this evening so I am going to lay on the couch and see if I can find anything to watch on the hundreds of TVchannels I have. I bet I can’t. See you all tomorrow.

  128. Lee says:

The weather is bizarre been peeing down all day here now it’s brilliant sunshine!!
The family holiday commences on weds and I can’t wait for some Iberian sun on my follicly challenged head! 😉

  129. rico says:

goonster – her choice, gave her a bone and she barked at it for ages, no eating, just barking 😉

I’d be happy if we signed Moses Lee… very happy, good competition for Theo 😉

  130. rico says:

no goonster – she has her biscuits which are chicken, what else do you want her to have?? – jeez!! 😉

  131. goonster says:

after matching(extensively by the way) capoue and mvilla on youtube i think i ll prefer the former. capoue is a beast and cheaper too! sign him up arsene.

  132. DutchGooner10 says:

Just want you all to know how LG allows the most utterly brainless verbal abuse of our lady of the house. So you all have an understanding how she felt earlier today.

    gambon July 8, 2012 12:22:34

    Haha

That old c**t rico banned me because im not a thick fucking AKB like she is.

A post menopausal old c**t with her own site full of smiley spastics who have virtually no knowledge of Arsenal, football, business or life.

She’s got an IQ of about 7 and couldnt understand how RVPs desire to win trophies and Arsenals refusal to pay big money are completely intertwined.

  133. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
I jumped on last night…app. 8 ours ago….saw that knob on here telling us the “facts” and seriously, turned the IPad off.
I’ve said all along he’s not interested in anyone else’s opinion, and truly thinks he’s more intelligent than the rest of us combined,so rather than spend hours arguing with he dickhead, decided to back out gracefully and silently.
    Now he’s binned…….aaaagggghhhhhh,a lovely morning it is,too.
    If I’d jumped on,I’d have been binned,too 🙂

  134. Scott from Oz says:

Capoue doesn’t appear to have the ego and immaturity M’Villa has,so he’d be choice #1.

  135. Scott from Oz says:

RICO,does that mean I am allowed to mention LG now lol??
No,I’ve had my say on them, and though I’m not happy you’ve had trouble tonight,I’m satisfied that you’ve seen Gambon exactly for what he is.
He has no interest in a two sided debate,he’s simply a troublemaker.
Anyway,I head a very well respected pundit…..one of the few intelligent ones around…..saying there’s no way that RVP’s departure is a foregone conclusion, and do not be surprised to see him with us til his caree ends.
I’m not not sure I’m happy about that, but Rooney said worse and is seemingly still loyal to Utd,so how knows.

  136. Lee says:

The bloke is scum and shouldnt be allowed on a pc, lets hope the cnut gets run over whilst on his way to fix some libors!!!

  137. DutchGooner10 says:

Copy and paste Stan without tinkering from me. I just wanted it out in the open for your own personal viewing.

  138. rico says:

Scott – and I always said leave it to me to sort, it would have come sooner if you didn’t bite 😉 😉

  139. goonster says:

spot on scott…..rico legrove is shit and ll always be. that place is filleed with scums. don’t let it get to you. we love you and we ll always be here for you. right guys?

  140. Scott from Oz says:

And Rico, anytime a LGer calls you THAT name, wear it like a badge of honour,as it means you’re not one of them, and are a TRUE GOONER!!!!!

  141. Scott from Oz says:

    Ricos the man.
    I mean the Queen :):):):):):):):):):)
(those extra smileys are for you Gambon,so choke on them you batsard).

  142. Scott from Oz says:

Off to work guys,so sleep well.
Gotta feed the champion,Highbury Lad first though….he’s worth it now lol.

  143. rico says:

He won’t be back on here Lee, that’s for sure, he’s joined that ‘c’ word that is banned – although that sums him up nicely……

  144. Lee says:

All that 1st or 2nd shit and calling everyone a C every other word….thinking you’re all high a mighty, knowing everything to do with Arsenal probably never seem them play! Wanker!!!

  145. rico says:

Indeed Lee, and idiots like him think they have the right to judge what we talk about – jeeze – you can talk about footie all the time when there is nothing to talk about and why keep posting

‘WENGER OUT’ every other comment – so so grown up eh….

  146. Lee says:

I read once that he hoped an opposition player broke Ramsey’s leg……what a grade A wanker!! Gone now….

  147. Micko says:

Rico, an AKB, I’m devastated, Gambon has done us a huge favour, she has let us all down very badly, feels like I’ve been stabbed in the heart.

  148. Charlie George aka AK says:

    Hiya AKB’s.
I’ve missed all my mates today.
Spent all afternoon and evening in the Rosendale pub in Dulwich, getting gently pissed.
Well, someone has to do it.
Stan, put me in the bin eh?
I’ll be having words with you young man…

Missed all the fun did I…?
Don’t tell me that Jerry has been on again with some more examples of Engliushness…
    What is pillock in Engliush?

  149. Charlie George aka AK says:

Rico, i’m proud of being one of your smiley spastics.

Gambon is, what he is, a nobody…

  150. Devilgunner says:

Put this on if you can Rico……….

Quote from RVP when he was 25

Robin van Persie added: “I’m so happy to have signed a new long term contract. I’ve been at the Club for five years now and there really is a great feeling here at Arsenal. We have a top class manager, a squad full of superb young players, a world class stadium and brilliant supporters. Arsenal Football Club has a very bright future and I want to be part of it. “My heart is with Arsenal and I just can’t picture myself in a different shirt. I just can’t see it now because I love this Club so much. If you look at the last five years, look at the steps I have made every season, if you look at the support the Boss and the whole Club gave me, the fans gave me, my team mates gave me – this is the right decision.” Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is looking forward to Robin’s continued contribution in the forthcoming years.

Sad but true MONEY is the only reason he is leaving

  151. Scott from Oz says:

Well said Robin……shame one GREAT year has gone to your head and you decided to listen to a cockroach parading as your player agent.
YOU OWE THE CLUB ROBIN,YOU OWE THE SHIRT AND YOU OWE US FANS!!!!
If you go,then pay back the millions in wages you never earned.
    The club carried you.

  152. CowboyGunner says:

Wow…great quote that you found. You know, in most cases you wouldn’t blame someone for heading to a big payoff and greener pastures as a professional…However, when they cross the line and declare that they LOVE the club, they become more than a mere professional athlete. They have professed their faith and devotion…that is family.

Be a professional and love your JOB. But don’t get the fans all excited when you throw empty promises and intentions at them, only to leave going back on everything you said.

That’s NOT a professional. That’s a LIAR. But what do I know? I’m not a professional. I’m a fan, supporter, follower, whatever. But I LOVE my club and would never desert them.

Ha. But I’m not RVP, so that doesn’t really mean that much. Boo.

Well, I’m across the pond from most of you, so you are all probably going meemees (sleep). Once again, great commentary and great handling of trollific posters.

I’ll eventually try to come us with some posts worth more than mere pulls at heartstrings…but I really enjoy ya’lls inisight. Peace from Vegas!

  153. CowboyGunner says:

Since everyone seems to talk about what they just ate on here…grilled fish and shrimp tacos with a tricycle of brown ale, malibu and coconut pineapple, and of course, Patron. Mmmm. Tomorrow morning…toast…or a few Bloody Mary’s? Hair of the dog that bit one!

  154. Scott from Oz says:

Cowboy,I’m an Aussie champ,so you’ll catch me on at some strange hours, though I never miss a game.
Enjoy this site mate, because though I have had the odd heated debate with people here, they’re true Gooners and just good people to talk to.
Everyone is treated with respect by the regulars until the line is crossed.
Participate, learn and have a good time.
Oh,and dinner is coming soon….Lasagne for me!!

  155. CowboyGunner says:

Awesome Scott de OZ. An Aussie Champ? Ha! That’s great. I don’t really sleep anymore…in bed at 1 or 2 am Pacific time (Cally) and up by 6 at the latest everyday…three kids…so I get my quiet time after 9 or 10 and then am awoken around 5 or 6 am. That’s what naps are for I guess…but who has time for that?

What I liked about the site was the aversion to trollsters. People here are generally cool and actually interested to hear about fellow Gooners lives instead of Mancs, Spuds, and such coming on destroying every credible thread. I do like Bleacher Report’s IJ Yarson, though. They guy is an incredible writer and quite intelligent analyst.

You know, the more I read about RVP, the less I want him now. Shouldn’t we be worrying about Theo? Or is Moses better? I need to do some research on him as I didn’t follow Wigan too much, but I do like their manager…RMart for Wenger successor? I’m sure I’ll get a few jibes about that one. After all, I thought Juande would actually make Spurs better…one of the few times in life I’ve been relieved to be so completely wrong…

Honestly, I have never been to an Arsenal game, but I wake up at 4 am if I have to, find some sort of stream online like Sopcast, and piss off my girl because I have to watch the Arsenal! I get in trouble not for staying out all night at bars and clubs, but for screaming at 4:30 in the morning waking everyone up. I can’t help it. Also, It’s really hard during CL games b/c I teach and have to hide my phone so my students can’t see my JustinTV…I’m such a bad example.

I went to school in London in ’97 and would stand outside Highbury (my girlfriend worked at a pub in Islington (King’s Head? They had small plays there) broke as a joke hoping I could find a way in. Being a broke student who lived on oatmeal and generic ales and ciders as well as having this horrlble American accent didn’t help matters any…but ever since I saw the poster on my friend’s wall in 6th grade of Arsenal vs. Nottingham Forest (I think), I saw the name and declared them mine. I knew none of the history and none of the players. The poster only had Arsenal vs. fill in the blank. I had never had a team really as we had no access to European games and there was no televised American league at the time. I guess the Dallas Sidekicks were my favorite…

It’s still Dallas…though that’s American footy and my parents brainwashed me with sheets, backpacks, wristbands, hoodies, pajamas, curtains, etc before I can even remember. So some question my true status as a faithful Arsenal supporter, but I take flack from everyone I see when I bear one of my jerseys.

They always say, “Why are you wearing that?” I always reply, “We pay our bills.” That’s not the real reason, but I have yet find a decent retort to my answer.

Well…here’s another about to go down…Cheers! Salud!

  156. Adam says:

Lee. I did and I have to say that I thought it crossed the line and was totally out of order. I also think that whoever was moderating LG at the time should have deleted the post and told him that too. I think it says a lot about both the site and him. Just as Rico kicked him off here I had begun to question his statements and it was clear from his first post that he was going to struggle. He just dissolved really. Like all bullies and trolls when confronted. Still, no doubt he’s sending sick messages to the parents of some poor soldier killed in Afghanistan before beginning his daily cycle of abuse on LG.

  157. Adam says:

Hi Cowboy. I know the Kings Head well mate. I also travel to Vegas every January for the CES show.

  158. CowboyGunner says:

Yes. It is now morning…1 a.m….so its about time for sleep…going to Nevada/Arizona border tomorrow to a resort for the next week…and yes…you’d better believe I’ll ride into town in my Arsenal jersey (I don’t get names on the back anymore) looking pretty damn smug…in my Prius with car seats and stuffed animals crammed in the trunk…I’m so cool. Looking forward to tomorrow’s great posts from you all…errr…I mean today’s.

  159. CowboyGunner says:

Nice Adam…yeah..I’d occasionally run errands for them. One day they sent me to get sheets of foam and cut pieces from some foam store. I got back way later than they thought…because I saw Highbury for the first time and just stood there for like half an hour walking around the stadium. When I told them why I was late, they laughed.

I don’t live in Vegas…just come up here to visit my Pops and a bit of extracurricular activities…though this is the first time I brought the kids…so a bit tame this time. I did meet a couple of Swansea fans the other night after I hit it big on a dollar machine…they were surprised that I knew who Rogers was and that I admitted, “Swansea passed Arsenal off the park” that day. What a bad day that was! They acknowledged BRogers should take the opportunity…”But Liverpool?” they said.

Winter is the time to come. It is over 100 F here right now…where I live in Cally it is just as hot. Where I am going next is just as hot. Next year…big trip…Alaskan Cruise! Or London!
