Josh Kroenke confirms the board will make the decision as they see fit. They need to make it now.

Morning all.

Yesterday was the first time in a long time that under Arsene Wenger, we lost to a club promoted from the Championship the previous summer. That was in 2006 when Neil Warnock conjured up a 1-0 victory over us which caused a bit of a shock. Losing to Brighton though came as no surprise, not to me anyway. That defeat made it four in a row on the road, something not done since way back in 1925 as Kev reliably informed me yesterday and 1925 was the year when Herbert Chapman replaced the sacked Albert Leslie Knighton.

To this day Arsenal fans remain divided over who the better manager is/was, Chapman or Wenger. Pneumonia cut short Chapman’s life and of course his Arsenal managerial career, one which I suspect would have brought the club far more success.

Arsene Wenger on the other hand has stayed so long that all the good he once did, he’s now undone by taking us pretty much right back to where we were when he arrived. Actually, it could be said that Brice Rioch was improving us and we’d not long signed the great Dennis Bergkamp. Player power saw to the end of Rioch though, something which I wish would happen today with Arsene Wenger. I know it shouldn’t need to be that way because by now the owner/board should have done something about the managerial mess we are suffering a long time ago but it looks like they don’t have the stomach for it, or the balls. As someone said yesterday, if the Chelsea players could do it to get Mourinho the sack, they why can’t ours?

But I think they are and have been for a while. They’ve downed tools and everyone, well nearly everyone can see it. Arsene Wenger still has his supporters, he probably always will and although those numbers might lessen as days go by, the most important people who need to see things clearly are those on the board. Maybe they already do, we certainly have to hope so.

Josh Kroenke on how daddys clubs are run:

“Our philosophy has always been to put good people in place and let them make the decisions that they see fit, while providing adequate resources.”

I’m sure he could pull a few strings though, after all, it’s looking highly likely that the club will one day be in hands. That is unless his father decides enough is enough and sells up. Nice thought eh.

Arsenal aren’t a club which flirts with relegation each summer, it’s not a club which yo-yos up and down from the premier league to the championship either but it’s one which looks as if it would be more at home doing so.

Arsenal are a club which moved to a fancy new 60,000 stadium, with fans assured that the move would see us competing with the best. It’s a club which should be far better than the neighbours, Liverpool and even Utd and it’s a club with a group of players who really shouldn’t be making the same mistakes on the pitch week after week, month after month and season after season. It certainly shouldn’t be thirty odd points adrift from City in top spot either. It’s a club steeped in history, it’s based in the big City and it’s one of the finest clubs around.

This club, our club and us fans deserve more, much more. By that I don’t mean winning the treble every season but to have the inner belief that every now and again we can win the Premier League and in between times, we’ve given the challenge to do so, a bloody good go but that’s not been the case since 2004. Some of you might argue that we’ve come close on a few occasions but I’d have to disagree. Yes we’ve had our chances but when the time came to kick on, the ship sank in style, usually just after the turn of the year.

The man who back in 2004 had the desire and ability to keep his players focused and driven to go unbeaten after securing his third Premier League trophy is a shadow of the manager he was back then. Years have taken their toll, younger managers have overtaken him and the game has passed him by. As said before by many, he’s an analogue manager in a digital world. The board need to bring our club into the present with one eye on the future too. Ditch the house brick and go Apple.

I don’t know if things will change this summer, I doubt any of us do but we can only hope that by the time the new campaign kicks off, we’ll have a new manager leading this team. Kroenke and the board need to have a plan for the summer, if there’s not already have one in place.

If they have, Arsene Wenger can be as defiant as he wants after each defeat. He can insist he’s the one to turn things around, just as he can discuss anything else about his future at Arsenal but if the board decide his time is up, it’ll be up.

And no breaking up of drink stirrers whilst sat doing little else in the dugout will change that….

I think we owe this man to run out his contract he has been a great servant to arsenal and i would let him complete his 2years and meanwhile set up a replacement. This would allow the club to find the correct replacement and not some short term mr fix it.

re Allen post.
We’ve been tolerant of this nonsense for the last 4-5 years. We have allowed him to oversee a shoddy team ethic and the players do not seem to want to bother. This is a downward spiral and if he is allowed to run out his contract we will surely end up in the Championship. The form of the team is ‘relegation’ form. All the other managers in the league know how to play against us and that is why our away record is so pathetic. The Board must act NOW and tell him his time is up so that the new man can come in and lift what confidence the players have left for the remaining matches of the season.
Why do you think he can turn it around, the players have given up on him.

The Kroenkes have monetised everything and the club is purely a business proposition to them. They could never understand the feeling that supporters have for it. I realised this a while ago and I have found that my support has dwindled as a result. In my heart I am still an Arsenal boy, Islington-born. But in my head I know that this is ‘my’ Arsenal in name only and I have balanced the extraordinary costs of visiting the stadium as a Season Ticket holder and just don’t see it at the moment. The Kroenkes have weaponised our love for the club and attached a monetary value to it. Fair enough. They are hard-nosed American business people. I get that 100 percent . But they have also stood by and watched Wenger slowly but surely let the club drift and waste 100’s of millions of £s. Their part of the bargain is to keep Arsenal competitive and this have have abjectly failed to do.
If you’ve seen Man City play, then you’ll understand that is the standard Arsenal must be looking at. It’s too easy to say that they are the richest club and that they have the best manager. A manager that could and in my opinion, should have been ours. There are other ways to really achieve in this league but it’s going to need the right man in place with the right backing. The Kroenkes probably have a figure in mind. But we’re arent the only club wanting to usurp their position and be the best. One thing is absolutely certain though and that is that Arsene is not the man to take things forward from here. Take a look at the points column. That’s the reality of Arsenal today and it ain’t pretty.

Rico that’s laughable maam? Wenger couldn’t win it the year leceister won it. That season was his best chance in a decade to win it yet we floundered. Hey atleast we beat leceister twice that season so that itself is a title ???we ‘re closer to the relegation zone than the top and our form since the turn of the year has been abysmal. There’s no way in hell this arsenal team comes 5th next season let alone win it. Rico you crack me up ma’am ?

Not only the players and fans have downed tools – apparently not one member of the Board wanted to miss their Sunday lunch and travel to Brighton yesterday – another first !

However I honestly believe there’s a lot going on at the club which contradicts the notion that we are sleep walking into oblivion.

Ignore the fan vitriol and tabloid headlines, Ivan Gazidis is a smart guy who knows football. He has made three big appointments this year which point to a whole new management structure and direction for the club post Wenger. Gazidis has opened an office at London Colney, Josh Kronke has entered the frey. All this points to preparation. I find it quite conceivable that Wenger is being kept in the loop – the club have a lot of respect for the man, even if we don’t. I also find it conceivable that last summer the club took a strategic decision that we were not then ready for “post Wenger” and he was asked to stay on for another one or two years. This would explain why the contract situation was not resolved until May and the hefty pay rise.

I am not making any case for hanging onto Wenger, I would have let him go in 2008, but I do believe those that run the club are not all the one dimensional money grabbing cardboard cut-outs we see described every day on the internet.

Afternoon all and thank you Rico.

I`m out of Emergency Isolation ManFlu and downgraded to ManCold, so still in intensive care !

We will never hit the highs of CFG without the same money and similar coach I`m afraid, they might aswell be on another planet……………………..as for Wenger……………Chicken and Egg situation, he needs to go, but so do the unintelligible board, they wont sack him !…………………….any other owner would !

Actually wasn`t disappointed yesterday as I have reached the tipping point where I think every loss is a good result and the only way to get the board/owner out and I still believe the owner is the bigger problem……………………only a clone of Pep would get us playing that kind of football, but we would probably need the money for players to execute his philosophy…………………hence the owner/board problem……………”“Our philosophy has always been to put good people in place and let them make the decisions that they see fit, while providing adequate resources.”……………………it would have to be something more than “adequate” to rival CFG !………………………..my car is “adequate”, it gets me from A to B…………………………..my attire is “adequate”, it`s fit for purpose of work !…………………………..but I`m not going to pull Shakira with a Pug 107 dressed in white overalls !

Wenger will not go and ……evryone know even the press they know is futile.

One thing that is going lost on this Wenger in or out cloud is :

What happen to this so called physio gurus newly hired.

The first 11 no one can say were over used specially this season and yet look like completely phisically burned yesterday.

Form and confience issue okay is as low as it can be……..but……the phisical thing ?

So why no one is asking the physios role in this ?
The injury rable is clean yesvbut reality is players are nit strong as others like liverpool Spus and Mancesters

Too Good To Go Down. Don’t think so. Our formal in 2018 is relegation former. Thankfully we have enough points on the board to avoid relelation (haven’t we)? If this fraud stays another season then relegation it is. Every team and it’s dog will come to the Emirates expeciting 3 points, what will le fraud do about, fiddle with his zip. Don’t think I can take another season of this. Maybe he has a “scorched earth” policy for next season. His way of paying back those pesky supporters.

Can Arsenal be relagated under the bad management of AW? Absolutely, these businesses never thought they will go out of business: Compaq, Polaroid, Kodak, Nokia, Pan Am, Blockbuster Video, Tower Records, US Steel, Napster, Ericsson Phones, MSN Messenger, etc, etc ,etc. Under wrong management ideas, everything bad is possible.

I do think we have suffered from a double edged sword. For Gazidis to step up as a CEO it required Wenger to go over his head. How weak can that CEO be if an employee can go over his head and convince Silent Stan that Wenger is still best for AFC even though we are dropping on the sporting side due to tactics and coaching… I believe that was the real ‘catalyst for change’, Gazidis then went and hired some people himself for AFC and we have seen a contract negotiator come in, a gem finder come in and now Raul who helped get transfers done and also helped Barca increase income with his contacts.

Silent Stan isn’t running our club, he will listen to the people he hires to know about the job, for me the blame has to go to Gazidis. He is our CEO, he has the power to hire people which he has only just started to do, he should have done this years ago! We all seen Wenger declining but instead of trying to bring AFC forward, he carried on working on bumping share prices by undermining the manager which just magnified Wengers flaws.

Our current situation has been built from years of neglect and it isn’t all down to Wenger, at least Gazidis is finally stepping up… It took years to see this change and I find it kinda funny we see this change after we all read about how Wenger bypassed Gazidis for his new contract.

Not saying Wenger should stay or he is some kinda god, he isn’t. He has plenty of faults and I do personally look forward to post Wenger.

I’m saying Gazidis isn’t good enough. The changes bring hope but it doesn’t take away the issue of Gazidis failing for nearly a decade. UTD Ed Woodward is someone to point towards as an example, he helped UTD massively increase their income so they can afford to spend more on players, the owners are not putting their hands into their own personal pockets to sign the players. UTD was bought using UTDs money! They was in a worse position than us in a business sense and look how much change a top guy can make on the board. We got Gazidis during the old boards desire to bump up share prices and Silent Stan has liked his share prices increase in value… Gazidis can sell the future for short term benefits. He has done.

That was our real problem IMO, glad to see changes and hope they cover his flaws, no human being is perfect so we got to hope we get people in who can support each other and get the best out of each other.

Wenger and Gazidis is not that partnership.

Eighty-eight per cent of Arsenal Supporters Trust (AST) members who responded to a survey say they do not support Arsene Wenger remaining in charge of the club beyond the end of the season.

AST members held their annual general meeting in central London on Monday night, following Arsenal’s 2-1 loss away to Brighton on Sunday
Before the meeting, each member was individually surveyed and asked if they support Wenger remaining as manager of the club beyond the 2017/18 season.

Eighty-eight per cent of those who responded voted against Wenger being in charge for the 2018/19 campaign. Five per cent said they were undecided, while a further seven per cent believe Wenger himself should make the decision when he sees fit.

The AST has over 1,000 members with 450 of those participating in the survey.

AST spokesperson Nigel Phillips told Sky Sports News: “We just can’t go on like this. Maybe we are at a time change is coming and surely the board and owner must realise that. (Wenger) is like a desperate man clinging on.”

Representatives of the AST have been granted a private meeting with chief executive Ivan Gazidis on Sunday and they will present him with the results of their survey.

Arsenal have declined Sky Sports News’ request for a comment.

Only 85% voted Wenger out??? Wow just wow….

Good Morning Fellas:

Two points from Lee Dixon that had me crackling up.
On S. Bould, “I said to Bouldie, ‘you’ve got to sort Bellerin out he’s doing my head in! Why is he making runs ahead of the forwards when there’s no ball on?’

Bouldie said ‘I’ve told him’. So i said ‘f****** tell him again!”

“Arsene went through a period of allowing him to do a little bit more. There was recognition in the press that Arsenal looked a bit more solid. Then it all went away.”

On Ashley Cole: “Tony Adams coached Ashley Cole into becoming the best left back in the world. It had nothing to do with the coaching from Arsene.”

That sums up what many have been saying, If you do too much as a coach, you will not be around AW too long. Small wonder that players are consistently regressing.

Morning all.

If Wenger is refusing to go, and claiming he’s going to see out his contract, only more disasters can be foreseen! In adopting this intransigent stance he is displaying all the arrogance of a fallen idol. Seemingly he cannot and will not concede that he has to carry the ultimate Buck. It all stops at him. He cannot hide he has to accept responsibility and if he were an English m’lord he would resign and disappear to live the quiet life at his country hideaway! That particular argument has no traction at the first call….he’s not English and seemingly no gentleman!
I suspect he is actually taunting the board, daring them to sack him or put him on gardening leave because, he feels that he is absolutely bullet proof. More delusional thinking on his part.
Oh me oh my! When will this all end? He has become a vaudeville side show joke! But not very funny!

As much as I want us to win or get close to winning the Ropey cup a defeat on Thursday would drive a further nail into Wenger ‘coffin’. Would it make any difference to the old geezer? I doubt it! Sad, sad state of affairs.

If whatever dixon’s said is true , then AW deserves all the abuse he gets..not as if he cares anyway!

He is more interested in sociology than actual football matters..one if his infamous quotes “wisdom”? about football past and present..

“So what has changed since then? Not the “core of the game”, Wenger said at his press conference, but rather “the décor” of the job. The behaviour of players on the team bus, who have replaced communal sing-songs with each listening to his own music.

with Wenger there is always another level of analysis, a dip into one of his favourite hobbies, amateur sociology. The real difference in managing Arsenal from 1996-97 and 2017-18, Wenger said, was to do with the democratisation of knowledge and the decline in respect for expertise. “What has changed, is the society.”

Kk
Kk

We live in a society that is more demanding, that is more opinionated. The overall problem in Europe is that the respect for basic things has been lost, or is less strong that it was 20 years ago. As well you have positive things: people are better informed, people are better educated. People have more knowledge of the game. You have to think of balance.”

One arsene wenger

Kk
Kk

There is more suspicion now,,“You go to a doctor and he is more questioned than he was 20 years ago. 20 years ago, you go to a doctor, he says ‘you have that’, you say ‘Ok, I will go home and do that.’ Today, when you go to see the doctor, you have read before on the internet. And he has to convince you that you have not necessarily what you think you have. So that basically means that you are questioned more. In every single job, people are questioned more.”

Adam
Adam

That is such a condescending attitude from Wenger. As far as football goes, the Internet certainly does give a voice to some pretty odd people but it also gives real fans a forum for debate. As for his doctor analogy, I have to say that hasn’t been my experience at all.
Arsene, we have heard ad nauseam how many games you have managed and how many substitutions you have made but what about the points column? What about the FA Cup that you so cherish? How about the shitty, embarrassing performance in the Carabao final and the points gap to Man City in the league? Are these not fair questions from fans of Arsenal? Or are we somehow lesser mortals who have come to the bizarre conclusion that the more money you spend, the worse the team has got? And if you really believe that you will win the PL or the CL next year, does this not clearly indicate that you are actually the problem and not even the remotest part of the solution? Just how many years would you like to stay? Because if the answer is one more and the reason is because you have never left a contract early then don’t you think that might be considered somewhat egotistical and selfish. The club is about the supporters and they, clearly, have had enough.

Sorry to hear that Rick and hope things turn round for you.

All quiet on the Arsenal front.

Morning Brudder and all… shame these PSG rumours are just that eh?

Trophies over a profit for a lot of clubs…

His future and hence, the immediate future of Arsenal is really the only topic. If we lost the AC Milan tie by 8-0 over 2 legs I have little doubt that he would still be spouting the same irrelevant nonsense while maintaining that he is the right man to turn things around. It’s depressing that he seems to be intent on staying for that final year. If things continue as they are I cannot imagine what the atmosphere and attendances will be like next season. I am hoping that the deafening silence from Ivan and the board is some indication that things are happening behind the scenes. But then Brudder will tell you that I’ve always been an optimist. 🙂

Hey Rick, you take care mate, great performance by Smith-Rowe.
Hi Rico.
Lata Rico ?

Afternoon All, not been on here for a few days, but some interesting comments.
Adam, your 9.59 on the 5th really goes to the heart of this shambles.

As a mate told me the other day, the silence from Arsenal could be a positive, maybe things are happening behind the scenes…

Hi Rico, all HH regulars.
Regular reader, sometimes commenter ?
I had a thought regarding the relationship between Kroenke and Wenger.
It may be wide of the mark and completely wrong, but I believe that Wenger played a significant role in helping Kroenke purchase the club, and acclimatise him to everything Arsenal.
I would imagine their relationship to be very warm and friendly, and it just might be the case that Wenger has done so much to help Kroenke, that it is emotionally impossible for Kroenke to sack Wenger.
I hope everyone is well (aside from the angst that Arsenal are putting us through!).

Afternoon HH I hate to say it but I told you so. Wenger ‘ll be here till the end of his contract and maybe longer. He’s best mate with kroenke and brought that moustache wearing twat into arsenal. There’s no way he ‘ll fire Wenger. I ‘ve seen his pressers that guy is so relaxed about his job. Yes he looks edgy when being pressed about the spate of bad results we ‘re racking up yet you can tell from his demeanor that that old fart knows something we don’t. The board and fans could scream bloody murder and burn effigies of lesenile but the buck stops with the syrup. Wenger has given him value for his money. Regardless of the results from now till the end of the season i still see Wenger at the helm next season and probably beyond. Don’t be surprised if sven, raul, huss and gazidis all tender their resignation letter. Wenger ‘ll go over their heads and ‘ll come out tops and that ‘ll result into a massive exodus of players and administrators alike. I could be wrong but nothing the board has done so far suggests a new man ‘ll be at the helm next season. Brace up gooners it’s gonna be a rough few years with Wenger. P.S I heard his dream is to break ferguscnt’s record. He’s got 4 more years to do that. Lol ???Lord God are we stuck with this old fool or what?

Rico I don’t want to neither ma’am but everything points to him being here next season. Maybe kroenke ‘ll let him see out his contract and send him off but I just don’t see how we ‘ll be rid of him this season. It’s looking highly unlikely. All the ITKs I follow on Twitter had all gone from bullish to resignation. They went from hell yeah he’s leaving to a whimper. The silence alone says a lot. Am not overly concerned ma’am. I ‘ve made peace with myself regarding Wenger. If he’s still here after the season ends so be it if not i ‘ll celebrate but I don’t see it. Kroenke owe him big and won’t renegade on a promise. He ‘ll see out his contract and and maybe ride into the sunset with his millions!

Yes ma’am we ‘ll just wait and see. Just can’t take another season of this plus it ‘ll only get worse.

I was really banking on gazidis to push through but it’s looking ominous now Rico. Unless Josh can convince his father it’s time to move from Wenger. Our only hope now is Josh kroenke.

It’s shaping out to be one of the worse seasons ever especially if the totts finally nabs a title which is looking more likely by the day. They could win the fa cup or surprise surprise go all the way to the final in the champions league!

Howdy BT just saying my fears out loud. While those scums are advancing and (even though I hate to admit) playing some of the best footie around we on the other hand have really been shit for a few seasons now. Like it or not BT it’s a knock out competition anything can happen. Porto Chelsea and inter have all won it when no one fancies them.
