Why the injury to Samir Nasri could be good news…..

Ok, before anyone starts shouting about how an injury to any player can be good news let alone Nasri, please read the rest first.

We all know that Samir Nasri is one of the first names to be on the team sheet for Arsene Wenger this season, his form has been outstanding and he always seems to be involved in everything good about our current form.

We also all know that he needed a rest and probably in hindsight he shouldn’t have played at the weekend but it’s very easy to say that after the event.

Most importantly though Samir and Arsenal need to sit down together and battle out the terms of his new contract, something that has so far been put off until the summer.  No doubt the reason for this that our player wants to let nothing distract him from what is most important and that’s his performances and our results. Well now the Frenchman has three weeks to rest and maybe in those three weeks contract talks will be brought forward and a new deal signed. Nothing like a bit of good news for Arsene Wenger to announce and you know if that happens he’ll be like a ‘new signing’. Actually, I think he would be right this time too, he’s a wonderful player, gutsy and has that winning attitude.

Ok, so that’s one reason, here’s another.

Andrey Arshavin has struggled so far this season, so much so that a ‘just about fit’ Tomas Rosicky filled in for Nasri against Everton, a choice that surprised me and no doubt other Arsenal fans. I was so sure that Arshavin would start.

Rosicky was rusty, everyone could see that and his substitution for Arshavin helped turn our game around. The little Russian hasn’t been able to find the back of the net in a while but against Everton his finish was cool and calm and brought the score level. With that came belief that we could score again and we did. Could that goal be just what Arshavin needed to build on, could that just be what he needed to get his confidence back?

Could we start to see this again?

Watch Out, I'm Back!!

I don’t know for sure but I think he will start at the weekend and just maybe we will see a different game from our little number 23.

Some things in life happen because that’s just the way it’s meant to be. Nasri could have picked up his injury in any game, it just so happened it was against Huddersfield. If Arshavin pushes on now and starts to put in top performances week in week out and Arsenal announce that Samir Nasri has signed a new contract, then surely his three weeks out injured would all be worth it.

Wouldn’t it?

Have a good one all…..

morning Rico, another good article! I was going to write yesterday that with all our current injuries that AA23 had find his mojo again…hopefully this is starting to happen.

  2. rico says:

    morning Colin, thank you 🙂

sometimes thats what it takes though, a bit of pressure and the true attitude of a player can come out – maybe for him and a few others its all a bit easy and no pressure but now he could just pick up and kick start his season…

  3. JSK says:

I agree. There’s no way of knowing when that injury wil have happened. Imagine if he had pulled up in the early stages of the first Barca leg instead – we would have then been without him for most of that and the second leg. This way it will probably just be the first leg only. Also, he wil be nicley rested for when we enter the seriously business end of teh season. I agree wuth your comments of AA as well. That goal could well now restore his confidence and self-belief – something he has been lacking for most of the season.

  4. rico says:

Hi JSK, Nasri is a strong guy too, to date he seems to recover quickly without setbacks like some have..

Good point about his injury timing..

  5. didee says:

    Ricoooooooooooooooooooooooo,

Morning all, I hope song and theo are not out for long more importantly that we have no more injuries cos i wanna win barca at all cost, we have played 3, lost 2, drawn 1…i wanna wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin. tired of all the jibes from barca fans saying we bow to them in everyway

  6. rico says:

    Morning didee, hows you?

I’d love us to beat Barca but i cant see it happening but i do love to proved wrong 🙂

  7. didee says:

Well its in 13days time, i gat feeling that we can beat them with our first team, this new found resilience got me believing again, matter of fact, am confident we would beat chelsea even with torres in the mix. its all about controlling the midfield, it gonna be tough to do that against barca and that’s why we need song

  8. rico says:

song would be a massive loss as will nasri be but… how long is denilson out for, hopefully until after the barca matches 😉

  9. rico says:

Fabianski is out for the season – that’s why Al didn’t leave in the Jan window then… Hope Chesney satys fit, don’t relish seeing Al v’s Messi 🙁

  10. didee says:

i wish no one evil, well except for the mancs, northern mancs, chavs and spuds, but i dont hope to see denilson in that game at all

  11. rico says:

    😆 didee

it was Colin, just like seamans against Sheffield, but one swallow…. 😉

I hope Messi and Villa pick up injuries for the two games….

  12. Rocastle says:

    Morning peeps!!!

Your glass is always half full rico m’dear!

Very good points though. Personally I’m alot more worried about Alex songs injury as to all other positions we have people that can do a similar job ( ok possibly with the exeption of Robin).

The thought of the barca midfield against denilson makes my bum make uncontrollable squeaky noises!!

  13. rico says:

all of them really colin …

Hi Rocastle, it has to be, we have what we have and players like AA and Nikki need to step up. The latter bleats on about how he wants trophies, now is the time to show that on the pitch 🙂

Agree re Song, he’s out of the newcastle game and i’m glad, if he’s half fit we whouldn’t risk him, not when we are doing well, i guess diaby will now play…

  14. Will says:

    Afternoon guys.

Good post Rico and you could be right. I was reading yesterday how Nasri’s agent said he wanted to stay, this could be the perfect chance to sit down and give him what he wants 😉

I think Arshavin should be given a go in the middle, see what he can can do there and get his mojo working again.

Now. If I may, I would like to enter a rant.

Firstly, I want Cesc or Wenger to come out and ask Everton to back up their slanderous accusations with hard facts otherwise, Wenger and Cesc should take them to task.

I was so annoyed when I read what Moyes said, accuses Cesc of something, then wouldn’t say what was said and then saying he didn’t want to make the game about that individual incident. Then why mention it you retard?

Now we have an “un-named” Everton player sayng Cesc was shouting cheat and how much did you bribe the ref at the Everton players.

Arsenal really need to back up the Arsenal players as this is not the first time Cesc has been accused of something that proved to be an utter lie. Anyone remember the Phil (liar) Brown incident?

I love the way we handle things but I feel that there are occasions where we have to draw a line in the sand and say “no more, you can’t slander our players get away with it”.

If there is no truth to the accusations, sue them and give the money to charity. Serves two purposes then.

    Rant over, thanks for listening.

  15. Will says:

Oh and Neville the thug getting the full on Sky treatment, it is sickening. Castigate a true world class player but give a virtual blow-job to a no talent thug.

  16. K-TR7 says:

Boom!good read again rico.rant time.im tired of the cesc witchhunt.congrats cesc you must be doing something right.i hate the label that we are neutrals’ ‘second team’.they treat us like puppies but newsflash the puppies are now British bulldogs.they are ugly and no longer ‘cute’.cesc and the team have a mentality that they are taking the points no matter what.if you’re going to deny them illegally they won’t take it kindly.the refs should now know they shouldn’t f*ck with us.funny that we see shrek/terry/stevie me tell the ref to f*ck off but the media say its passion.when cesc waves an imaginary card its the ‘dirty foreigners’ but when the aforementioned lot do it its all about justice.when eduardo dived he was a ‘foreign cheat’ but when the above lot do it its ‘intelligent play’…it would make us winning the PL so much sweeter.

  17. Will says:

I agree KT and the double standards annoy the piss out of me. we dive and it is back page news, Fat Frank or Shrek does it and it isn’t even mentioned.

  18. K-TR7 says:

Hi will.cesc is learning the trade and if he need to go to the dark side every once in a while so be it.Terry is widely praised despite him snatching cards from refs.I agree with Aw.cesc should tell opponents to f*ck off if they request for his shirt after kicking him for 90 minutes.

  19. Will says:

But don’t you want Arsenal to back their players in this. I want Hill-Wood to tell Moyes and the Un-Named player to put up or shut up.

To many managers see us as an easy target, time we stood up to these idiots.

  20. timao says:

at least samir won’t be getting injured on international duty… could his ‘hamstring’ be a giggs-like just ruse to get him out of that game? no of course not! my fingers are firmly crossed that robin et al come back unscathed

  21. Will says:

Don’t you think the board should come out and back the team and manager when these accusations are thrown at us?

  22. rico says:

Thanks re the post KT & Will 🙂

I am with you guys all the way about these stupid accusations against Cesc, if they have something to say or prove, come out with proof, instead of hiding behind ‘anon’….

  23. rico says:

One of them should Will, it’s wrong and what worries more this witchunt goes on the more Cesc will get fed up with playing in england….

  24. Will says:

Exactly. it disgusted me today, seeing the absolute adoration one of the biggest thugs in the game gets and then see Cesc get accused with everything with absolutely NO PROOF.

  25. rico says:

hi timao, sorry for the delay, first comments go into moderation, hope you haven’t got fed up with waiting 😉

I think that could be wishful thinking, he pulled up a bit too much, but i like your idea…

  26. rico says:

Will, its same old though, we don’t act when players are tapped up, we dont do much to rock the boat… at the same time we know something was probaly said but if Lee Mason wasn’t interested enough to include it in his report then what ever cesc did say couldn’t have been that bad and certainly not towards the officals….

  27. agirlagunner says:

Just a flying visit… Good article, rico. 🙂 Nasri’s absence is the perfect opportunity for AA lay claim to first team action; and rediscover his mojo. We’re up against Barca soon, and need him to be on top of his game.

As for the hatchet job on Cesc… pathetic. If an English player had done the same thing, he’d be lauded as one with a winner’s mentality; it’s because we’re Arsenal that it’s being branded as “petulance”, “ugly”, “dark”. Blah blah boring.

  28. rico says:

Will, have a look at my 9.31 comment 😉 😉

Don’t ever worry about any link back to Le Grove, it’s where my blogging days began and I read their posts every day, they are good….

  29. rico says:

agag, you are right, AA needs to find his mojo but with that front unit firing he had no way in, now he’s got it and he needs to make the most of it 🙂

  30. JonJon says:

    evening rico..
i enjoyed pedros post, i thought it was a fantastic piece..i hope geoff reads it 😉 lol

onto nasri..i heard he signed a new contract yesterday??
and i agree if AA comes good again the next few weeks we wont miss nasri that much..and when nasris back hopefully the little rest will help make us unstopable in the business end of the season..

  31. colin says:

Why is it that the media get so much pleasure in constantly digging out Arsenal…get the ginger whinger or the un-named everton player to back up their lies or fck off…simple you lost the game move on!!!

  32. JonJon says:

just seen a report on sky about our gk’s
chesny concedes a goal every 180 minutes..
he keeps a clean sheet every other game…

  33. JonJon says:

im astonished about the headlines colin..
but the media will write anything to sell and at the end of the day cesc wasnt charged so the ref didnt hear anything moyes did and everyone saw the offside..
    everyone knows its bollox

  34. rico says:

Hi jj, he hasn’t signed yet, i read that article too its not quite correct 😉

what about my post you old git 😉 😉

being serious, if nasri had to get injured i am glad its now and not when the run in gets close, we need calm players like him….

  35. Will says:

It is base journalism. Report on something without the facts and to protect yourself say an “un-named source” said it or use the word “allegedly”

We really need to get someone on a phone in and ask if that corporation is happy with base journalism and reporting things based in zero reality until they bring actual proof.

Why don’t Man Utd or Chelsea get attacked like this?

  36. Will says:

Arsène Wenger believes that Cesc Fabregas has been singled-out by opponents – but he expects his captain to be stronger for the experience.

The Spaniard has been in the news this week after Everton manager David Moyes accused him of making ‘unrepeatable’ comments to referee Lee Mason at the end of the first half of Tuesday’s game at Emirates Stadium.

The incident was not mentioned in Mason’s match report and Fabregas issued a statement on Arsenal.com on Wednesday to express his respect for all officials. The captain also used his programme notes recently to clear the air over a reported altercation with Huddersfield’s Anthony Pilkington.

Wenger was asked by reporters at his pre-match press conference whether Fabregas had been the victim of a ‘witch-hunt’. “Yes,” replied the Frenchman. “We are long enough in the job to know that somebody picks on you for a while, and you are in the heat of the moment.

“But for me what is the most important is the player behaves well.

“When Cesc is on the pitch, he tries to play football – I cannot say everybody who plays against him tries to do that.

“For example, some people reproach him for not exchanging shirts with a player after the game – but I hope he will not exchange shirts with players who try to kick him for 90 minutes and then come to say ‘please can I get your shirt?’ I think that is a normal and natural reaction.

“Overall this guy is an example on the football pitch and shows you how to play football.”

Fabregas recently entered his third year as Arsenal captain and, according to his manager, the 23-year-old is getting stronger and stronger.

“People are more demanding, and Cesc has to live with that,” said Wenger. “It is not easy, but he is a very intelligent man and he will learn very quickly to cope with that.

“Cesc is 24 this year, he has played 250 games in the Premier League – at that age, it is absolutely remarkable. He has gone through a lot, difficult moments, but has always come out stronger – this guy is a fantastic leader.”

  37. Will says:

Arsène Wenger knows that the behaviour of Cesc Fabregas in the tunnel on Tuesday night stayed within acceptable boundaries for one very important reason – the FA have not charged him.

After their 2-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium, Everton manager David Moyes suggested the Arsenal captain had made unsavoury comments to referee Lee Mason at half-time and should have been sent off.

However the incident was not mentioned in the official’s report and, on Wednesday, the FA confirmed that the Spaniard would not be charged. In Wenger’s eyes that concludes the story.

“There is nothing to clarify,” he said. “If Cesc is guilty, he would have been charged. But he has not been charged by the FA, there is no action against him so I don’t see why we should spend any more time to defend somebody who is not guilty. For me the incident is closed.

“You would be amazed with what I have heard in the last ten years in the tunnels and I never came out with anything.

“You have to understand that if you play football tomorrow with your friends, you go sometimes in at half-time and say something to your friend that you would not be very proud of 24 hours later. But it is all in the heat of the moment.”

  38. JonJon says:

    rico
the only game we will need him for is barca..
    hi will
i tend to ignore the media most occasions..its the refs that do my head in..
but on this occasion theyve really pissed me off
they should be blasting the lino for that decision, not what happened in the aftermath of what a manager says..the ref never made a report about cesc therefore moyes and his ‘sources’ are liars so why dont we see the headline ‘moyes lies’

  39. Cpt John says:

good article!! it would be amazing if it does happen as you’ve said and AA kicks into gear!! It will further rile the powers that be (BRITISH MEDIA)!! As the current “witch-hunt” is nothing but testament to the fact that we’re doing something right and thereby threatening to prove their (unequivocally accurate) predictions that we’re not good enough, tough enough and passionate enough (English enough) wrong!!! They can’t stand the fact that against the obvious adversity of a dubious goal coupled with the usual resilience of an Everton side we still fought hard and came out on top!! It is killing the likes of Collymore and co that they have not been given the chance to tell all who will listen that they told us so.. instead they’re getting more and more red-faced with every brilliant performance and more-so with every hard-fought/ground-out result we get!!!! Long may it continue until the icing on the cake!!!!

  40. JonJon says:

isnt what moyes says disprecting the referee?? he makes accusations that the ref didnt agree with..cesc wasnt sent off and wasnt.. wasnt charged, he wasnt mentioned in the refs report..
basically moyes is saying the ref was wrong..publically..doesnt that entitle the fa to act if they choose to??

  41. Cpt John says:

thanks rico.. i’ve been reading your posts for a while.. just always too lazy to read all the comments and come in and say something!! but the furore since tuesday has been retarded I had to rant about it for a minute!!!

  42. Cpt John says:

I should and I will try as much to contribute more!! I might sicken you guys with my pro-wenger philosophies though!! 😀

  43. rico says:

Cpt, as long as its honest and true, no probs but we all love Arsenal more than we love Arsene 😉

Mind you, he isn’t too bad a manager apart from in the transfer windows 😉

  44. Cpt John says:

Apart from making the usual sequence of statements about new signings every window he’s not that bad.. his signings generally fit into the team immediately!! barring sly, jeffers and cygan there hasn’t really been a major faux pas from the french prof!!

He just need to not raise our hopes at the start of every window and then dash them towards the end!!!

  45. Cpt John says:

I think all we need is a solid DM other than Song and I can see Wenger being reluctant to block the progress of Frimpong who might have had an amazing season if he hadn’t got injured!! Then there’s Coquellin and Eastmond in there as well!! The defence could have done with a loan signing but i’m confident that the 4 of them we have are solid enough when fit!!!
