What was your favourite league victory? Lost out on Griezmann?

Morning all.

Yesterday was all about 1989 and winning the league at Anfield against all odds, oh, and moaning of course. lol

’89 is quite hard to beat but maybe there are other league winning moments which you favour?

Wiltords at Old Trafford in 2002 was quite special wasn’t it, especially after all the cocky words from Fergie beforehand and knocking Utd off their perch in their own backyard felt good, really good.

What about the draw at White Hart Lane in 2004 which secured the Premier League? It’s always nice to give the neighbours a hard time eh.

Then of course there is winning at home in front of our own fans, at our home of football which was of course Highbury in 1998 when we last achieved that. A 4-0 thumping of Everton 4-0 made sure Arsene Wenger clinched his first Premier League trophy.

Was that more special than winning away from home?

What about the victory at WHL in 1971- a single goal by Ray Kennedy was enough to see us crowned Champions, now that must have felt good if you were in the stands watching that unfold.

1991 was a funny one, having drawn 0-0 with Sunderland, a hefty loss for Liverpool handed us the league title. Not as exciting as going out and grabbing a victory to secure a trophy eh, but still a wonderful feeling and I doubt there was a single fan who cared how we did it on that day.

I hope I have got those occasions right…….

Being the mere youngster that I am, I can’t recall any other great league victories either clinched at home or away but I have a sneaky feeling one or two of you here might.

Go on, don’t be scared to give your age away, spill…..

Transfer gossip:

Well the ‘big’ story late on yesterday surrounded our supposed target Antoine Griezmann who is reported to have a £26 million buy-out clause. Well PSG, according to Tutto Mercato, have met that clause and the young French winger is set to join the French money bags.

Some of the headlines doing the rounds suggest that we have made an offer but it fell £8 million short of the buy-out clause.

Not sure what to make of this story really as IF there is such a get-out clause why would Arsenal offer less than it knowing full well another club could easily gazump them?

How on earth can PSG, who are already a club in trouble for breaching FFP, be able to splash so much cash, having already agreed a £50 million deal for David Luiz?

Also, why would Real sell Griezmann when they know we hold the trump card with Carlos Vela?

All spin in my opinion, just like all the other transfer stories we read in the red tops…..

That’s your lot for today…..

    Good morning Chappies and Lasses.

1989 will stay with me forever in my mind Rico. I still replay MT goal over and over again.

I saw other League wins. they all were great, especially when we thumped Everton 4-0 and TA06 scored after a lofted pass from Bould, but for sheer enjoyment the 1989 was the greatest by far.

Transfers??? We AFC supporters should by now be used to the fact that AFC will never show us their hand before a player is signed, sealed and packed.

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

Hmmm. The Lady and Sir are awake. Both get the first two comments. Something fishy is going on methinks. 😛

  3. rico says:

Aaron Ramsey is facing summer surgery on the thigh problem that sidelined him for three months of the season.

Arsenal’s FA Cup final hero will see a specialist to investigate the injury and ensure there is no repeat of that extended lay-off.

Ramsey is believed to have suffered pain in his thigh even before he limped out of Arsenal’s Boxing Day win over West Ham with a grade two thigh strain.

He then aggravated a tendon in his thigh when he returned to training in late January and did not return to the Arsenal team until early April.

Ramsey finished the season strongly, culminating in his brilliant winning goal in Arsenal’s 3-2 FA Cup win over Hull City, after being one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers in the first half of the campaign.

However, manager Arsene Wenger is keen his midfield lynchpin is fit and firing at the start of next season and the club will act upon any recommendations made by the specialist.

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

That is what happens when you do not rotate players and play them into the ground my dear Arsene.

  5. rico says:

    Morning Devil.

I think Anfield just tips it for me too because it was a head to head match, but 1998, our first for a few years was pretty special too, as you say, Big Tony bursting through and firing home in such fashion was very emotional….

  6. rico says:

Exactly Devil and that stems from a lack of squad depth and lack of trust in who was available….

  7. rico says:

    Yaya Toure:

“PSG have become a European power. It’d be an honour to be part of such a club one day, if I can be of use.”

Is that ‘reverse tapping up’ 😉

  8. potter says:

The beginning of the 70’s for me , winning the fairs cup then the league at whl coupled with the cup against the victims . Great period for Arsenal supporters and the reason I got hooked.
As for the transfer price rumour , Arsenal bidding low ? none of us would be surprised but I reckon it’s stirring by someone that wants perpetuate the myth.

  9. rico says:

    Very different to today Potter….

I can actually believe the bidding low by us as it reportedly happens all so often, but IF there is a get out clause and we are told that’s what it takes to sign Giezmann, I doubt we’d have even bothered if that price was deemed too high.

Unless of course it’s all to do with Vela’s situation and the rumoured £3.5 (ish) we can get him for.

Can imagine this situation is entirely in RS hands and its about who they want to keep or who they want to make the most money from.

Although they could very well end up with neither…..

  10. Hell Raising Devil says:

That is because you are old now Potter. 😉 As old as an oak tree.

Regarding the Yaya comment that is not tapping up…….that is ass licking my dear Rico. He wants to have a good payday before he hangs up his boots.

  11. Bt62 Gooner says:

Goooooood morning in the House,89 does it for me, ran round the house like an ejit. Then ran to the pub after lifting the trophy, to ram it down all the throats of the dipper fans, bloody priceless!!!

  12. potter says:

    OAK undefeated

Thats what we said When I was a kid and played for a Sunday team called Oak United.

  13. rico says:

Nikki B is in talks with Hull…

I could have sworn his father said many top European clubs wanted to sign him….

That’s nearly as good as Sol moving abroad but never getting beyond customs at Portsmouth… 😉

  14. potter says:

Bendtner played for Bruce on loan , apparently they got on well and Bruce got the best out of him effort wise.

  15. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, was Nikki B not doing a line with many bellies daughter when he was at Birmingham? Mscalculation on the underage drinking, but still plenty of sad dippers. LOL.

  16. rico says:

Hopefully it won’t come to surgery Scott…

I wish Nik well really, if he could have sorted his ego and bad attitude out, who knows where he’d be right now…..

  17. Scott From Oz says:

Is it me, or is there a common attitude problem shared by players whose dad is their agent???

  18. rico says:

Good question Scott, maybe they aren’t able to tell their kids anything negative regardless of what age they are…

  19. potter says:

Probably parents living in the reflective glory . family is not good in that sort of business. Look how Nic Anelka’s brothers screwed him about.

  20. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, always thought there was the making of a decent footballer in NB, just there’s a different movie playing in his head most of the time.He was pretty decent for Denmark.

  21. potter says:

Wenger ball not his style really, in a direct team with plenty of crosses he would do alright.

  22. Bt62 Gooner says:

Perhaps it’s having to much money being handed to you, at a young age that warps your own self perspection.

  23. rico says:

So how good is your lad really Scott? 😉

And Arsenal Potter, although I suspect that £25 million was most welcome….

  24. rico says:

Think Potter is right Bt, he didn’t suit our game and he lacked the kind of work ethic that Giroud has for the team…. (when he’s not having early morning romps of course)

  25. Scott From Oz says:

Rico, he is bloody good, but I am smart enough to know my limitations 🙂
We had our first parent/coach interview this afternoon.
Coach Andre reckons Sean has everything he could possibly have for a footballer at this age, and most importantly, he loves the work.
Devil will love this, but the next new training regime to be introduced will include gymnastics 🙂
Me…I am just a dumb salesman, so I shall stick to that lol

  26. Bt62 Gooner says:

Scott, if i remember right, Arsenal sent Malcolm Macdonald to a ballet teacher back in the day.

  27. Scott From Oz says:

BT, Sean also plays Aussie Rules.
Any sports or exercise can only be good, I reckon.
Ballet is out there, though hahaha

  28. allezkev says:

    Morning All…

It’sa miserable, damp, overcast, wet day in London Town…

    Morning Rico…

Yes Lee, I was indeed there when Jack Lambert scored.
My Grandson Wath by my side, with shorts on and school cap, Rico was also there in a pink dress with a huge red & white bow in her hair. She was fascinated by the Police horses, as was Adam in his red shorts red bobble hat and a massive rattle, on which he played something he called a ‘riff’…
We had a wonderful time, pie n mash, jellied eels.
Got the tram from Highbury Corner to Cricklewood Broadway…
Then got a lift on a horse and cart the rest of the way…
Adam and Rico were fine, but Wath didn’t half moan a lot…

And, if you remember Lee, I was gonna take you for your 9th birthday, but your parents wouldn’t let you go as you’d been caught smoking a roll-up in the toilets at school, tut tut…

    Ah, the good old days….

  29. rico says:

That’s great news Scott, hope Sean keeps progressing. You could be rich one day and no more Mr Salesman 😉

  30. allezkev says:

My favourite is probably the 4-0 at home to Everton…

Not as dramatic as some, but Highbury was rocking that day…

    Truely memorable….

    😉

  31. Bt62 Gooner says:

Scott, i think it was to do with poise, balance and discipline, still a bit out there.lol. My better half runs a yoga class, which contains a few sports people,GAA and even a Kick Boxer.Always enjoyed ARules, don’t see it much these days.

  32. rico says:

Morning Kev, it’s pretty much the same here in the South…

    Fed up with it to….

Your comment has brought a smile to my face… 🙂

  33. rico says:

Did you see my comment this morning Kev about Suarez staying at the dippers, thought it might cheer you up… 😉

  34. allezkev says:

Yeah, I saw that about Suarez in the paper this morning…

Money talks Rico, if Madrid offer him and his agent a big enough financial package, he’ll suddenly become unsettled…

  35. Bt62 Gooner says:

See the Di Maria rumours still doing the rounds.Spot on Kev, money talks and the alure of Madrid would be to much to resist.

  36. rico says:

I’m sure you are right Kev. With a bit of luck they’ll leave it late and we’d have got our players in by then… 😉

  37. Scott From Oz says:

BT, Sean’s coach was rapt he’s playing Aussie Rules, where I was hesitant to tell him lol

  38. Scott From Oz says:

Di Maria……dangerous player, and one who would be sensational for us, as long as he stays upright 🙂

  39. potter says:

The training for ballet is really good for football, it gives you the correct way to stretch without pulling or straining muscles. My physio always told me to watch a cat when it gets up and the way it stretches , not suggesting that you get on all fours but stretching out really helps things as lots of standard training exercises build bulk but restrict movement.

  40. Scott From Oz says:

Potter, when I decided to make my comeback this year after 6 seasons eating and drinking, the advice I got was don’t run, don’t kick a ball at training……just stretch.
So far, so good….no tears or strains.
Then again, I don’t move quick enough to cause problems 🙂

  41. Bt62 Gooner says:

Potter reference the cat, some yoga postures are based on, as you say the various stretching exercises of the cat. I think G Rod would suit a Tutu. lol

  42. allezkev says:

BT/Rico, I’d luv Di Maria, but it’s a lot of dough that Madrid want…

Wath really rates him and I was very impressed with him in the CL Final…

I liked a few of the Atletico players, a lot cheaper, lower wages, but quality all the same…

Adam watches a lot of La Liga and he’s always banging on about Atletico and Simeone to me…

Apparently Gazides, despite being on the FA something-or-other, isn’t gonna spend much time in Brazil as he anticipates a busy summer. I hope that isn’t another load of BS and actually means what we hope it means…

  43. Bt62 Gooner says:

As long as it’s only the stretching and not some of its’ other, eer actions when in the positions. lol

  44. rico says:

Kev, I am against throwing huge money at clubs just for the sake of it – as long as we sign the right quality of player, I’ll be chuffed.

I don’t watch enough overseas football to really have a view on many players people here mention which is why PL players are top of my list I guess.

I do like At Madrids ethic though, I just guess Simone has more ability when it comes to getting the best our of what he has in front of him and imho, that’s half of our problem…..

Good news re Gazidis, as you say though, as long as it’s not all spin.

I can’t see how it can be, not this time…..

  45. Bt62 Gooner says:

Kev,the story revolved around some gesture he made to Madrid fans, earlier in the season and that Perez wanted him gone.No substitute for real pace and power. Can only live in hope, as usual.

  46. rico says:

Aaron Ramsey on twitter says ignore all the stories about his surgery, it’s all bollox and he’s fit and healthy….

  47. allezkev says:

    That’s good news Rico…

Aaron should just be laying on a beach somewhere, resting up and preparing to do even better in 2014-15…

All he needs is for LeGenius to rotate him occasionally and allow him time to recover…
Substituting when games are safe seems a plan, but AW just dithers…

  48. rico says:

Absolutely Kev, and get the right players in, one’s he trust enough to bleedin play them….

  49. potter says:

get the right players in, one’s he trust enough to bleedin play them….

Don’t want much do you ?

  50. Bt62 Gooner says:

There’s a wee video about Supermac on talkshite at the moment, one for G rod, how to score with your head. 57 goals in 108 games. A fee of £333,333.34 sounds a tad familiar. lol

  51. allezkev says:

Kim Kallstrom has spoken of the possibility of him staying at Arsenal next season…

He has a year left on his contract…

    Wishful thinking by Kim methinks?

  52. allezkev says:

Maxime Gonalons, the Lyon midfielder we were linked with last season, is on the market it seems, with Lyon missing out on the CL and Gonalons missing out on the World Cup…

25, a good age, def/mid, position we need to strengthen…
Lyon, pain in the arse to negotiate with…

  53. Wath says:

To right Kev, Lyon are a nightmare… more to the point the owner president is a nightmare…!

  54. allezkev says:

Wath, hiya mate, yeah I think that there seems some kind of personal animosity between Aulas, the Lyon President and Wenger…

We’ve been linked with quite a few of their players over the years, and not signed many, if any…

  55. allezkev says:

Sami Khadeira is my fav choice for def/mid anyway…

I’d be delighted to get him…

The Di Maria waters seem to be getting murkier and murkier…
Everybody and their dog seems to be in for him.
    Perez doesn’t wanna sell him.
Then he wants to swap him for Pogba, or Suarez, or anyone!!!!
    Transfer Window migraine again… 🙁

  56. Wath says:

Kev you can only worry about whats Arsenal can control.. they certainly cannot control who other clubs decide to do deals with or swap players with….!

Aulas has always tried to milk every deal hence I think why he hates us and Wenger lol obviously we tried to skin flint him a few times lol

Khedira top player and a big yes from me but there are plenty other as well I’d be more than happy with… I want players who make us better not necessarily just cos they come with a big price tag that don’t mean squat…!

I hope we trying to get Sanchez cos at around the 20/25mil mark he pisses all over Benzema…!

  57. Micko says:

    Everton 98 had it all.
Bouldy playing central midfield, Adams scoring with a minute to go, Champions with a couple of games to play, our 2nd double just around the corner, and a genius of a manager ! Wonder what he’s up to these days.

  58. Wath says:

98 def had it all Micko but didn’t have the sheer drama of 89… for me nothing ever will…. When will the two top teams ever play last game of the season winner takes all and one team wins with virtually the last kick of the game..?

I think that 98 manager is stuck in a timewarp somewhere Micko..?

  59. rico says:

    Afternoon all…

Bit rainy outside today, got soaked waking Fido but all was well once I’d raided the bargain bins in Aldi…. 😛

  60. Wath says:

Micko, I heard Ts is off explaining and debating those Harvard theory’s with Dick Law just so we don’t offer to much for any players we looking to buy and or pay them silly wages…!

  61. Micko says:

What with my NVQ and your CSE’s wath I reckon we could give him a good run for his money.

  62. rico says:

Sky sources understand that Bacary Sagna has officially communicated to Arsenal that he has turned down their contract offer and will be leaving the Premier League club.

The 31-year-old revealed earlier in the week he was 90 per cent certain to be moving on, but he has now confirmed in writing to the Gunners that he has turned down their offer of a contract extension.

Sagna’s current deal is due to expire at the end of June, after which point he will be free to sign for another club.

Arsenal had offered Sagna a two-year extension, but the France international has opted to end his Gunners career after seven years at the Emirates.

Sky sources understand that Manchester City and a number of top clubs in Europe have expressed an interest in taking the France international defender.

It is understood Sagna would ideally want his future resolving before the World Cup finals kick off next month.

  63. Micko says:

Hi rico, just a shame citeh get him for nowt, if Jenks can’t can a regular run in the team next season he never will, he’s gotta step up this summer, I don’t understand the stick he gets myself.

  64. Wavy says:

Pocket tino to the scum! Should we be alarmed or pleased?
How long will he last, 6, 9, 12 or more months?

  65. rico says:

I’m a Jenks fan Micko, I really am and you are right, if not next year, he’ll no doubt pack his bags….

  66. allezkev says:

    Ginge has been posted Overseas…

My guess is Donetsk, but he could turn up in Sligo…
    Shaken not stirred…

  67. Wath says:

Night Rico….. your gone by now but I am always late….

Micko, CSE’s… mate I only got a BBB…. Bullshit Baffles Brains… you think we can still pull it off mate..?

  68. Micko says:

Wath, we may have to resort to a DBS….double bluff and shuffle, works for Gazidis every transfer window.
    Nite Gooners.

  69. Wath says:

Night you lot take it easy… I’m off to do a bit of a reccie on the local….. It seems specials are on offer… I may have to go undercover….!

I’ll take me tarpaulin along…! Problem solved.

  70. Gonerjoe says:

Well today we get inconvertible proof that the press make stuff up in Ramsey needs an operation on he’s leg.
The player comes out later in the day and tells everyone it’s not true and not to believe whats in the press.
Consequence’s of this this bull shit is on this blog an Arsenal fan looking for reasons blames the club.
Now we know how it works Arsenal in for this player or that player then it’s Arsenal miss out or are snubbed by the player.
No truth what’s so ever in 99.9% of these kind of stores but still Arsenal fans get angry because surprise surprise no player turns up. Then they buy in to the follow on stories that Arsenal won’t pay the player enough to bring them to the club. Arsenal offer a sum well below the players club is willing to take for the player.
As Rico asks why would any club offer less than the so called buy out clause.
Press print bull shit on players or Arsenal buying players and I ask why would anyone who supports Arsenal give them the time of day. It’s just another way of attacking the club and driving rift between the club and it’s fans.
    Sorry about the rant.

  71. Wavy says:

A bit of a time gap been out. Don’t get out much these days, but there you go!
