Wenger Won’t Risk Walcott! A Win & A Draw Will See Us Through…..

Morning all.

Happy Birthday to Ian Wright – he’s 51 years old today….

Theo Walcott is set to be given a new contract and a pay rise according to Arsene Wenger:

We are starting to sit down with him. I think he has one and a half years to go on his contract in December and it is never an easy job with him, you know.

Clearly the club don’t want contract talks to go down to the wire with him like it did last time. Sign Da Thing Theo!!

Will he be at his peak in the next few years? He should be, yes. He is 25. It is the best years now so hopefully we can profit from that.

I thought he looked a lot sharper in his little cameo appearance on Saturday, perhaps he’ll get a bit more playing time tonight.

In the newspapers today is Alexis Sanchez. Apparently Liverpool seriously wanted to sign him in the summer to replace Suarez, they even offered more money for him to Barcelona but neither the player, or his club at the time wanted an Anfield move!

At last Barcelona did us a favour. Shame we didn’t return it when selling them Thomas Vermaelen. Poor chap is struggling to get fit, stay fit and play. A few reports suggest he could already be on his way out of Spain…

Anyway, enough of them.

Injuries – Arsene Wenger believes there is a light at the tunnel with our injury situation. Olivier Giroud is pencilled in for a return to training after the next international break, with both Mathieu Debuchy and Mesut Ozil not far behind him. All three have been snapped working hard in the gym whilst stepping up their recovery. Abou Diaby, well he’s been on a ‘return after the international break’ since three seasons ago, it hasn’t happened yet and I doubt it will happen this season either.

No sooner than the final whistle had blown at The Emirates, we’re set to kick-off again. Well that’s how it feels. Make the most of it as after this weekend it’s another boring international fortnight.

A win tonight and a draw or better for Dortmund and both clubs are into the knock-out stages of the Champions League. I know it’s highly unlikely but it would be good if Galatasary could sneak a point in Germany as we’d have a good chance to finish as group winners IF we could beat Dortmund at The Emirates later this month and then secure another victory in Turkey in December.

However, right now, we need to beat Anderlecht, a side who will be out get revenge after our smash and grab victory in Belgium.

Back then Mikel Arteta wasn’t deemed fit enough to start, Szczesny was suspended and Walcott was injured. All three are back for tonight’s match but Wilshere misses out through illness. Either that or Arsene Wenger thinks we are playing better without him right now.

We looked better on Saturday against a dogged and defensive Burnley and we struggled to make the breakthrough but once we scored our first, like buses, two more came along quite quickly.

Anderlecht are a young, fit and energetic side as we saw in Belgium but whether they attack us quite like they did in the first leg remains to be seen. We allowed them to play that way on the night as we were woeful. We had little to no discipline and we lacked organisation all over the pitch. We were awful but we got the result, eventually.

As said, we have started to look a little better and hopefully that improvement will continue tonight.

A big three points are up for grabs, go get them boys and secure our place in the knock-out stages.

COYRRG’s…..

That’s it for Tuesday, have a good day all….

Morning All,

Good post..

Playing better? against Burnley maybe but I think our last 3 results mask how poor the team as a whole has been. Include the last 5 results and we’ve been dire.

Chelsea loss. Hull 2-2 draw at home, Anderlect last minute smash and grab, Sunderland gifted 2 goals (could have easily been a draw) and Burnley who with the greatest respect are absolute shite.

I’m still not convinced but at least we’re getting the right results.

Sorry to put a downer on it but it’s how I see it lol

Nickie
Nickie

hehe, yeah it’s easy to feel optimistic looking at the last 3 results and also at the way we completely dominated a poor Burnley side. I full expect us to crush Anderlect tonight and would like Welbeck on the score sheet, he seems forgotten after all the Sanchez shows lol. Walcott to sign a contract definitely. A couple of years ago I slated him, poor touch, dreadful ball control and didn’t look like he knew where he was going. Last season up until he got injured he looked like a different animal and as you say in his little cameo over the weekend he looks so much more assured. Great vision, pace, close control just like where he left us.

It’s one of those games that is more important than at first glance .Gazidis spelled out the clubs financial policy and despite all of the predictions of our spending power if we don’t get out of this group , you can be sure that player buying will be seriously curtailed. That’s what gives it the importance . We all know that we are not going to win the whole thing but if we want to see more Ozil /Sanchez type signings then we have to go as far as we can.

3-0 today boys. Hopefully Welbeck scores, Id like his confidence in front of goal to rise and rise and rise… anyone get the feeling we are depending on Sanchez for goals just a little too much? Long may those goals continue, but remember he is not even playing striker. Phenomenal player.

Oh just since Im back on the keyboard, how happy are we all that we didnt sign Balotelli? There was quite some support on HH for that one back in the window (I was in the cheapo Remy camp) but god if you want to breed negativity and criticism, go the Balo route.

So while I still regret we didnt buy Schneiderlin or Carvalho and probably another CB, Ive got to say all of the buys were good -> excellent… except anyone seen Ospina lately?

Is it too early to hope Sanogo goes out on loan?

ps. Sorry if these are well trodden topics, Im catching up!

Just watched the juniors lose 2-1, not a pretty sight! Reminded me of two things, the first team style and the metaphor for impotent sex! An awful lot of posturing, a great deal of side to side, even a little bit of backwards play, an occasional tickle up front but at the end of every ‘attack’ there was absolutely no penetration. Very poor! Having said that Anderlecht dominated the game. They had all the toys and we laid back and got tickled and rather too often tackled!
Let’s hope the same scenario is reversed tonight and we give the Belgians a thoroughly good stuffing!

It’s a pernicious disease far too prevalent sympathy to anybody touched by it..

Wavy , I too watched the Under 19 game and one thing occurred to me , Is all the flair coached out of these kids . We see the occasional trick but the system seems so pedestrian. I couldn’t help thinking back to my playing days and I don’t really think that these boys are that much better. Sure they are fitter and their coaching helps them move off the ball better but actual skill on the ball ? I am not so sure. All very toothless , crossing to no-one and nobody taking responsibility , I just got depressed watching it. The Belgians ran the match and Arsenal seemed happy to let them do so. They were quicker to the ball and we gave it away so often. , We were passing without looking especially down the left . I am sure that training consists of pass and move small team matches , going past a player and homing in on goal seems to be ignored.

Adam
Adam

Potter. I watched some of it too but felt ill-equipped to comment as I just don’t know this level. But I agree with you. Why haven’t we got a couple of hard nuts in there who can get their foot in and steam into the opposition occasionally? It was all very pedestrian to me with lots of square play and misplaced passes. Very one-paced too.

Rubbish end, but how did officials not see offside for first goal. And Arteta playing really well before yet another injury. We know defence is rubbish when we have to play a reserve left back at CB.

Dortmund is now in the next stage
When Arteta was sub they are two highways to our area…
We had played with on the 2nd half. Ramsey wasn’t no where and he must be in a key position.
The first goal was a clear offside; the second, i’ve some doubts about the penalty.
We had played at 2nd half with sleaze
Rosicky wants but no longer has “legs”; Ramsey is doing all in effort, slowly, without physical force, no ideas.

Waste of time being in a competition we’ll never win under Wenger….seriously who’s accountable for that spineless gutless team? Wenger going to get a bollocking from the hierachy this morning? It’s all too cozy for him, his time has been and gone time to do the honourable thing and leave!
Surely even the tree huggers can see it now? Or will we get some stat about how much money he’s made, frankly I couldn’t give a fuck I just want to watch a proper, competitive football team not this shower of shit! 3-0 up and fuck it up what an embarrassment we really are! And they wonder why the fans aren’t more vocal at the Emirates? It’s because we are expecting this sort of crap all the time. It was in th air last night, as soon as Flamini came on and decided to play second striker and Chambers thought the game was won. Anderlecht had turned it in after the third goal but Arsenal were so incredibly arrogant and complacent that they thought “Hold on, we could get something out of this”. NO midfield protection at all. Awful substitutions and as for Ramsey? Totally gone at the moment. All you see are flicks and scoops and his work-rate is worthless to the team.

Lucky I did not see the whole of the game but some of the tactical ineptness by some of our so called internationals on 50k+ a week was enough for me to stop watching even at 2-0 up…

How long will will AW tolerate this amateurism and unprofessionalism?
As Scott has inferred above the players have to truly ask themselves serious questions. Even with a sunday league manager in charge, the players on the field all with over 30 plus games in the UCL should be PROFESSIONAL enough to lock the game down.

Too many of our players rated by our fans do ‘jack all’ in the team with their exquisite flicks etc. Most of our players are as efficient as a car that runs 10 miles to a gallon.

Clueless the lot of them!! I am certain some public service departments are more accountable for their performances than Arsenal PLC.

tsgh

Scott, totally agree.AW is guilty to a degree but as with all walks of life as an individual when things habitually go wrong you can’t keep shifting blame away from oneself…
In my view there are a few players within the team who even when the team is winning and appear to be playing well are walking a tight rope tactically.

Without wanting to pick on a single player,to me MF20 is the worst player in the team. Even Frimpong with his purported haphazard style of play brought something to the team at 17-19 y.o. than MF brings to this team at 30 y.o with all his talk of fight, tactics and leadership.

Not only him of course but imho, there are several players who are not matured/disciplined or tactical or efficient enough to be afforded the luxury of playing the fluid system AW asks the players to play.

Adam

Untold are saying it was a change of course in the Jetstream that was to blame. Oh, and the ref is corrupt of course. It is down to Wenger for sure but the players must surely take some of the blame.

“If I’m being honest, I think they’re tactically clueless,” the Sky Sports pundit said. “That’s an honest opinion. How you can be 3-0 up and be attacking.

“This is not the first time it’s happened, this happens a lot of times. It’s absolutely clueless.

“The manager has got to get a message on. You’re playing with international footballers. These are not little kids, they’ve played in World Cups, a lot of Premier League games.

“They’re all bombing forward. Surely something in your head, if you know football, you say ‘right, lets stop here, lets have two banks of four, two up front, and we’ll go from there. Let them break us down.’ As football knowledge, it’s clueless, absolutely clueless.” Merson.

2 contrasting managers, Hasi 3-0 down screaming at his team, showing great leadership. Look over the the Arsenal bench and Wenger is quivering under a blanket playing with some elastic band that made him look frail, demented and finished.

Bt- it should be ‘when’ does it end. lol

In my view AW biggest and only issue is with him continuing to tolerate what is going on without appearing from the outside that anything is being done to address those obvious shortcomings…
As it has been mentioned earlier, its his team and accordingly he has all the acumen and authority when it comes to matters on the field…
Over the last 4 or so seasons the team has become evidently very dependent on one player carrying the team whilst the others tread water…
The team selection is as predictable as they come…
There appears to be no obvious team management going on and as per usual, by January our better players would either be injured or out of form when it really matters.

It does not help with loads of our players showing no basic professional accountability.
The ony thing this team is consistent about is knowing how to shoot themselves in the foot when it really matters…

Where there is no accountability, you get complacency. Honestly, do you think that Gazidis is asking Wenger what the fuck is going on this morning? Who, at Arsenal, will have the temerity to question the great Arsene Wenger? As an outsider it really does look as though Wenger has become a dictator. An absent owner who knows nothing of football but loves a dollar bill, a spin doctor who by all accounts is a decent bloke but has never served a day as a manager and a doddery old bloke who sees playing Bridge three times a week as credentials for his position.
The club surely needs confrontation within, as it is drifting along on a sea of mediocrity at the moment. Yes, we scored three goals but even Mussolini made the trains run on time. Wenger seems completely out of step with the modern game and without anyone in his ear, how can he change? Arsenal are fast becoming a sleeping giant brimmed full of professional somnambulists and the whole place needs a cattle prod up the arse.

3rd goal…6 players in and around their box….no need what so ever. Ramsey is obsessed with scoring goals trying to be the superstar of last season which showed in his unprofessional and poor positional disciplined performance. He doesn’t chase back too many times he tried that hollywood pass over the top and his flicks…shocking. To defend a lead Wenger takes off 2 players that track back, hassle and run around most and replaces them with 2 attacking players, 1 of which you could argue is a lazy arsehole the other who has barely had any match practice. Quality management. At 3-0 even 3-1 the game was stretched, you remove one of the ineffective Cazorla or Ramsey (who both looked dead on their feet) with Walcott. Sit deep then break with Sanchez, Walcott, Welbz and Ox.

Fred, you really think so re players are not that bad?

How many of our players are starters for their respective national teams if they are lucky enough to be part of their national teams…?
Arsenal has become identical to our English national team… we blamed Sven when we were all led by the media to believe we had the best crop of players a decade or so ago. According to media, if we replaced Sven with an English man with passion like Steve Dutch McClaren we would be world champions…
Well, we did not even qualify for a tournament under him…
Commentators rave about some of our players who tbh only Arsenal or England fans rate…

Yes, hypothetically a new manager may get more from this players in the short term as you would expect but the fact is we teh fans ‘spoil’ the players too early…

When Debuchy and Chambers played 2 good games for us they were being touted as being better than Sagna and TV. But I am yet to see how these new players have been upgrades thus far…
