Wenger is much better than Mourinho, Merse writes us off!

Paul Merson has gone from backing us all season to win silverware to writing us off in just a few weeks. He’s probably no different to most Arsenal fans right who believe the gap is too big between us and the Mancs for us to pip them to the league this season.

That gap now sits at seven points so we have to hope that Manchester United will drop points and we of course win all our remaining games.

The next three of those fixtures for us are massive, win them all and I think a bit of belief will be back in the player’s minds and they’ll be ready for the visit of the Mancs.

As said yesterday, Liverpool are suffering injuries and the Tiny Tott players are dropping like flies so for a change the Lady Luck pendulum is swinging our way, not much I know.

Let’s not forget that the Mancs have a few tricky fixtures of their own but regardless of that, Merse reckons we have ‘no chance’

They have got no chance. I was really bullish about them five weeks ago but now you have to question them. They have just dropped too many easy points. I think it’s all down to a lack of winning mentality.

Getting beaten at Wembley by Birmingham summed it up for me. If they had beaten Birmingham I would have called that a successful season for them because at least they would have won their first trophy for six years and it would have helped to give them that winning mentality.

They need a goalkeeper and a centre-half and until they get those positions sorted out they won’t win anything.

They will obviously still win games and some people will still drool about their playing style but that’s because they never win anything.

A good goalkeeper saves you about 10 points a season. Arsenal’s goalies have cost them at least eight points this season so how can any team possibly give away 18 points a season and still win the league?

Wojciech Szczesny will be a top goalie in years to come but what are they doing bringing a 41-year-old keeper (Jens Lehmann) back to the club?

Some Arsenal fans are calling for Wenger’s head now after the barren few years but Merse thinks very differently:

If Arsene Wenger left tomorrow and Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid, every club in the world would want Wenger ahead of Mourinho. I say that because Mourinho needs £100-200million to spend on players wherever he goes, Arsene Wenger doesn’t.

But someone else has got to come in and say, ‘You need a goalkeeper and a centre half’ — it doesn’t take Einstein to work that out. If the fans can see that how can one of the top managers in world football not see that?

Paul Merson is right there, how come Wenger doesn’t see what we all see and why on earth is Mad Jens back at the club? I also think the defeat to Birmingham knocked all the players off their feet. They thought that cup was in the bag, what they forgot to do is play with pride and passion for 90 minutes to ensure it was.

One man who will not give up on us just yet though is Robin van Persie:

“It’s up to us. Everyone stays positive and speaks to each other and says

‘Come on, we’ve eight games to play for, give it your all, We will do that’.

That is all we Arsenal fans ask for Robin, that’s all we ask for!!

Give it your all, starting on Sunday…..

That’s it for today, have a good one all……

Morning guys and what have I been saying about Jose?

Will
Will

It is the truth though. Jose could not go to Wigan on their budget and get into the top 4. He is a phoney that buys his success.

Anyone could have gone to a Chelsea side who had already had over £100m spent on the squad and then spend another £150m to win the title.

I know exactly what he would do at Arsenal. He would bankrupt us.

Merse should be more consistent with his views. I read a few weeks ago that he had said that The Spuds were a far more potent attacking force than Arsenal !! Where does he get that from ?

Want to save money and play fancy losing football on a budget? Hire Wenger.

Want to do what’s required to win trophies? Hire Mourinho.

Fact is, if we don’t have the clout to go out and sign players like Real did in the summer, we should be welcoming Usmanov with open arms.

And anyway, Wenger COULDN’T go anywhere that didn’t already have a ready-made defence.

U dont know what u are talking about, mate. Mourinho doesnt need to spend £100m. He won the CL with Porto with a much lower budget than Wenger, remember?

But if the funds are available, he will not hesitate to strengthen his team… unlike a certain someone who runs our beloved club.

If Arsenal’s defence is as bad as everyone bangs on about all the time, how come that on their current ‘Goals Against’ they are the 3RD BEST in the Premiership (just a few GA more than Chelsea and ManC and ahead of the much media-praised Vidic &Co at ManU in 4th)? Sure there’s room for improvement, but on that stat, and Vermaelen still to return, nobody can logically claim it’s disaster which needs millions to put right.

Unfortunately Mersons views should always be taken with a huge dose of salt. Watch him on the Sky Sports football show in Saturday afternoons and see how he is manipulated by Stelling. He sets him up by putting a scenario in front of Merson and, every time, Merson then constructs an argument to display the view which Stelling espouses. Every time. Not only that, but when commentating on a game, whatever has just happened up to around 5 minutes before commenting is the pattern of the game, according to Merson. We can dominate for 40 minutes in a half and have a ropey 5 minutes and Mersons “analysis” is that we’ve been on the ropes for the half.
He’s a lovely feller, but at the end of the day, he’s just another thick footballer who’s spunked all his money and therefore represents an easy mark for Sky/the media to manipulate into providing the veneer of respectability onto their views. The man is a clot.

Anyone know anything about The African Cup of Nations, apparantly it’s going to be played over the next two successive years? Also Frimpong has, it seems, decided to represent Ghana and not England, so that could mean losing both EF & Song, not ideal!

My ‘Old Man’ was an Arsenal nut, hench my obsession, but i used to love to hear him wax lyrical about all the players he saw like Matthews,Mannion,Finney,Shackleton [who he adored],plus all the Arsenal players from the 40’s & 50’s, it’s part of being a football fan. But what can that bloke in the article tell his kids?

I see that Ferguson is complaining about Lee Mason being ‘pressurised’ into putting in an adverse report on Shrek to ‘help’ the FA ban him… How disgracefull of the FA… Of course RedNose doesn’t pressurise refs does he? Paul Merson sounds very angry but i don’t blame him.

Yes , we are short of just 2 quality players .So how come Wenger didn’t sieze the opportunity and buy Shay Given.
Because all he had to do is invite him to dinner at MAyfair in London and dangle the prospect of Champions League football in front of him. Then he will go back to the MAncs and start making a fuss and they will sell him for (£10mill)

Then why didn’t Wenger buy just one solid Defender (one of the Germans in the world cup) and Keep Sol Campbell as a back up and still pick up Koscieny for the MAn utd games.- £7mil

He will still have spent less than £20mil

So Paul Merson can be angry because Wenger seems to be in another world.

Afternoon Gooners. Interesting quotes from our ‘Great Leader’ Now read these;

” It is my policy to keep the finest footballers in the game at Highbury, whatever the cost, and thereby to keep Arsenal on top of the football world”

Herbert Chapman

The only manager in the English game to build two teams at two different clubs who went onto win 3 successive titles

” I intend to carry on with the Herbert Chapman policy. It’s the only policy i know, or want to know”

Arsenal have entered a Youth version of the Champions League, to run alongside the senior version. Arsenal will be placed in a group of 4, with the knockout stages set to begin in January. The home games will be staged at The Grove, so an opportunity to see foreign youth sides at home for a whole set of new fans & kids, maybe ‘real fans’ for a change as you won’t get the ‘prawn set’ going to youth games.

Wenger’s comments today suggest the contrary rico.he looks like he may defend this team with his life but unfortunately the players don’t reciprocate that faith on the pitch.its getting personal now as it seems he wants to win his way so that in the end he can say ‘I told you so’.

JonJon
JonJon

not sure to be honest kev
i think its typical wenger spin
i think originally he is picking a fight with the media in this one..hes responding to the critics at the conference and is going all guns blazing..
but i feel in doing that he has created a load of mixed messages to us the fans…
it seems a combination of excuses and lack of winning mentality…

see..
its like hes saying he wants to beat utd..
but at the same time hes saying its ok if we dont
then hes going on about the average age of the team again talking about jack and cesc and nasri
you can see what hes trying to say but the response would be if your saying we are almost there and not actually there cos of our age then
a..its and excuse
b..only you can change it so why dont you seeing as though your using it as an excuse..

allezkev

JonJon
JonJon

of course he has a point
we were completely written off at the start of the season
and we are doing better then expected in their eyes
but its still not an excuse in ours

JonJon
JonJon

he tells us every season he doesnt need major signings cos this team is ready to win
coming 2nd isnt winning
and we havent come second yet we either pull our sox up and have a strong end to the season for once and see where we are or we go into freefall like normal and end up with 4th 20 points bhind the winners..

allezkev

JonJon
JonJon

nah i dont wanna dump those kids
i want them in

we have a good first team but we have a shit bench
we need to sign some players to strengthen that bench so when the injuries kick in we can replace like for like and not have players like diaby and denilson coming in for song and jack or rosicky and nikki coming in for nasri and cesc..
nobody replaces rvp and seeing as though hes out all the time that areas a must

then get the kids on the fringes and as soon as the injuries kick in they will get the games…

the ones who impress will get more games..like jack

JonJon
JonJon

to be honest i think we are going to smash blackpool

qpr are about 10 points clear of that league and smashing everyone they play and taarbat is seen as their star man..
damien comolli (ex arsenal youth development) took him to spurs originally and he never got the chance so they sold him to qpr
alot of teams are after him whether hes good enough for real is debateable but hes defo a good plasyer…
we’ll know more about him next season when qpr play pl football..thats if he doesnt leave them in summer
