Paul Merson has gone from backing us all season to win silverware to writing us off in just a few weeks. He’s probably no different to most Arsenal fans right who believe the gap is too big between us and the Mancs for us to pip them to the league this season.

That gap now sits at seven points so we have to hope that Manchester United will drop points and we of course win all our remaining games.

The next three of those fixtures for us are massive, win them all and I think a bit of belief will be back in the player’s minds and they’ll be ready for the visit of the Mancs.

As said yesterday, Liverpool are suffering injuries and the Tiny Tott players are dropping like flies so for a change the Lady Luck pendulum is swinging our way, not much I know.

Let’s not forget that the Mancs have a few tricky fixtures of their own but regardless of that, Merse reckons we have ‘no chance’

They have got no chance. I was really bullish about them five weeks ago but now you have to question them. They have just dropped too many easy points. I think it’s all down to a lack of winning mentality.

Getting beaten at Wembley by Birmingham summed it up for me. If they had beaten Birmingham I would have called that a successful season for them because at least they would have won their first trophy for six years and it would have helped to give them that winning mentality.

They need a goalkeeper and a centre-half and until they get those positions sorted out they won’t win anything.

They will obviously still win games and some people will still drool about their playing style but that’s because they never win anything.

A good goalkeeper saves you about 10 points a season. Arsenal’s goalies have cost them at least eight points this season so how can any team possibly give away 18 points a season and still win the league?

Wojciech Szczesny will be a top goalie in years to come but what are they doing bringing a 41-year-old keeper (Jens Lehmann) back to the club?

Some Arsenal fans are calling for Wenger’s head now after the barren few years but Merse thinks very differently:

If Arsene Wenger left tomorrow and Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid, every club in the world would want Wenger ahead of Mourinho. I say that because Mourinho needs £100-200million to spend on players wherever he goes, Arsene Wenger doesn’t.

But someone else has got to come in and say, ‘You need a goalkeeper and a centre half’ — it doesn’t take Einstein to work that out. If the fans can see that how can one of the top managers in world football not see that?

Paul Merson is right there, how come Wenger doesn’t see what we all see and why on earth is Mad Jens back at the club? I also think the defeat to Birmingham knocked all the players off their feet. They thought that cup was in the bag, what they forgot to do is play with pride and passion for 90 minutes to ensure it was.

One man who will not give up on us just yet though is Robin van Persie:

“It’s up to us. Everyone stays positive and speaks to each other and says

‘Come on, we’ve eight games to play for, give it your all, We will do that’.

That is all we Arsenal fans ask for Robin, that’s all we ask for!!

Give it your all, starting on Sunday…..

That’s it for today, have a good one all……
