We’ve battered Wenger; we’ve battered Kroenke, now its van Persie’s turn!

Over the last few weeks, months, maybe even a few years, Arsene Wenger has been on the receiving end of a few damning comments – actually, reading around the blog world, some have been absolute gutter, not something I condone in all honesty. It’s all very well having an opinion but there is never much point in adding cruel, vile insults to a comment – especially when you think about what the man has done for us in the past.

We have also ripped into Stan Kroenke for what appears to be, his selfish, tight, non caring approach to his new role with OUR club. Ok, he’s not the wealthiest man in the world and his bank account was severely dented when he bought up his Arsenal shares but, I believe if he couldn’t afford to buy his shares and go on to invest in his ‘new project’, he shouldn’t have bought the shares in the first place.
If he has got the kind of funds to allow him to invest, they he’s been negligent in his duty as our majority share holder.

He may not be as wealthy as Roman Abramovich, but I don’t think any one Arsenal fan expected him to spend the kind of money that the Russian did when he took over at Chelsea, we just expected something, something to make us believe that him owning the majority shares was a good thing…

Anyway, on to today’s moan and that’s about Robin van Persie.

Anyone here on Highbury House knows that RvP is one of my favourite players, always has been and always will be – well, unless he jumps ship to another Premier League club.

When all the news came out about Robin not necessarily signing a new contract, I believed that we would soon hear the real side from the man himself, and most likely through his clubs own website.

Correct me if I am wrong but we have heard no such thing.

We read he is said to be ‘coy over his future’, he’s ‘non committal over his future’ – we have read that the vultures who are also known as Manchester City are just hovering, ready to pounce in January and yesterday, one report suggests that big spending Russian side, Anzhi Makhachkala are waiting to snare our captain.

Firstly, I am saddened that Robin has not come out and spoken a bit of truth, even if he said it’s true, he is thinking about where his future lay. He’s our captain, his manager, his team-mates and us fans deserve to know, don’t we?

If he really wants to quit, I think it’s a hug smack in the face for Arsene Wenger and all at Arsenal who have stood by him over the years….

In his long, injured career with us RvP has made 238 appearances; he’s scored 100 goals and has notched up 46 assists.

Not bad stats eh?

Too much of this Robin....

Not bad my butt, he joined us in 2004, he was 21 years old……..

He was no kid, not a mature player but, old enough to be classed as an experienced player in the Wenger terms.

So, in seven years with us, he has played in just 238 games, divide the two figures and that gives us an average of just 34 games a season….

Why just 34, well that is because he has been injured for so long, yet OUR club has supported him, stood by him and paid him through all that time, and that’s an awful lot of money we have given to a player who has recently been injured more than fit.

At this stage, some may cite other injured players, but they are not looking to leave, yes, maybe they should have been sold as they are not in the same league as Robin but nevertheless, they are not stalling on a new contract are they?

OUR club has looked after Robin van Persie over the years, now it’s payback time isn’t it?

Is this going to turn out to be yet another emotional appointment of a captain who ends up leaving?

And not enough of this 😉

Or will Robin van Persie give something back to the club that has stood by him throughout his career and sign on the dotted line?

Now that would be leading by example wouldn’t it?
