Ivan Gazidis has finally spoken about the situtaion surrounding our captains future:

Robin sat down with us at the end of the season and we had a good discussion. What we agreed at that meeting was that we would keep all the discussions we had over the summer to ourselves and make announcements when it is the right time.

No mention of further talks, just an announcement, which to me suggests that a decision has been made.

He also said:

My message to our fans is that we are doing everything in our power to make sure that Arsenal can challenge for trophies next year, That is what this summer is about and that is what we are focused on.

To be able to challenge for trophies next season, we need additions so is that a hint they are on their way?

Talking of which….

Back in January this year, Arsenal did something which as far as I know, the club hasn’t done before and that was to give a trialΒ  chance to an American footballer to train with our club.

Dane Brekken “Brek” Shea was that man, fondly referred to as ‘Brek’ – he was born on February 28th 1990) who plays in midfield for FC Dallas in the MLS and he represents his country at International level.

He is described as being a versatile attacking player known for his size and strength and has in the past played in defensive, midfield and attacking roles, before settling as a wide-midfielder.

He’s a big guy at 6′ 3″ and just 22 years old – since he joined Fc Dallas back in 2008 as an 18 year old, he has featured in 95 fixtures, scored 19 goals and assisted in a further 14.

Everton as we know have for a few seasons now, taken advantage of the MLS break and signed Jason Landon Donovan on loan in January and has been a great help to them. Clint Dempsey has been in the Premier League since 2007 and has been a huge success at Fulham, so much so that he’s now been linked to a few top clubs, and us. πŸ˜‰

Tim Howard and Brad Friedel have also been a great success here in the Premier League, Marcus Hahnemann enjoyed many good years at Reading but his move to Everton didn’t really pay off – so much so he is now available on a free transfer. Brad Guzan signed for Aston Villa back in 2008 but his career didn’t take off either and despite being United States number 2, he has been released by his club this month.

I’m sure there are many others in the lower leagues too but the Premier League will no doubt soon be more attractive to American players, just as the MLS is now attracting players who are coming to the end of their careers in the Premier League.

Last summer we signed Park, a signing many believe was all about spreading the ‘Arsenal Love’ across Asia, well are we about to ‘spread that same love’ across America and sign Brek Shea?

Many a suggestion was that last summer, Stan stepped in and made sure we signed a few players after the loss at Old Trafford, whether that is true or not, we will never know but if it was, then maybe Stan is about to intervene again and ensure we bring America to Arsenal…

Again!

Finally – Happy Birthday to Lee’s daughter, she is 4 years old today…. πŸ™‚

No stealing the jelly when you get home Lee….

Have a good one all…
