Two Midfielder’s ready to quit in search of first team football but should they go??

But don’t worry, they only want to go out on loan – hopefully, these two players are here to stay and to be part of what we all hope will be a better Arsenal.

First up we have Chuks Aneke.

I’m good guys…..

He’s been talking to afc.com:

Personally I would like a little bit of a loan spell to experience some first-team football, at the moment I am playing for the Reserves and I would like to get myself some first-team football as well.

I think I am good enough now so hopefully I can get a loan but we will see how things work out.

Next up is our Dutch midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup  who looks up to his fellow countryman Robin van Persie, his ‘father figure’ and he has also been talking on the Arsenal website.

So am I, honest….

Ozyakup made his first appearance for the first team a couple of weeks ago in the Carling Cup and he’s got the bug. He’s also hoping to be part of team that faces Bolton in the next round.

To be honest it is mostly Robin, who I look up to because he is Dutch and he really looks after me outside of football as well.

There are more off-field things as well and I am really, really happy he looks after me like this. I never expected him to help me that much but I am really thankful that he does that for me.

I don’t know what is going to happen. Obviously I want to play in the first team regularly but it depends what is happening there, I would like to go out and play somewhere every week and to play every game.

Firstly, it has to be a good thing to hear these younger players say that all they want to do is play week in week out and be involved in every game and in order to improve, they will go to another club to ensure that happens.

It’s refreshing, especially when we look back at the behaviour of Carlos Tevez recently.

Should they now be going out on loan though?

Oguzhan Ozyakup is 19 years old. Is he not at the age where he should be around our first team, training each day and already learning about the way the first team play, getting used to his future team-mates and be ready to play the way we play whenever he needs to be called on?

Chuks Aneke is still only 18 years old but my word he is a big lad at 6’ 3” – yep, he’s taller than Diaby and he’s still growing! He too was part of the Carling Cup side that beat Shrewsbury, albeit, he played a cameo role at the end.

Chuks maybe young but so was Jack Wilshere when he made his debut, in fact Jack was much younger – 16 years and 256 days old to be precise when he came on against Blackburn at Ewood Park for his Premier League debut on 84 minutes.

So, the point here is, if these two players are good enough, why can they not be allowed to follow the same path as Jack?

Why not keep them both around the big boys, let them train and let them learn from them?

Ok, Jack went on loan eighteen months later but only for a few months and to a Premier League side to get him used to this tough league.

Should our club be so quick to send these players out on loan?

Or, should they stay a little while long, train with the big boys, play in the Carling Cup and FA Cup (fixtures dictating) and then, give them a few months at a Premier League side rather than a Championship or lower club?

After all, we all know how it worked out for Jack, who says it couldn’t happen the same way for these two players, and any others who are young and good enough?

Finally, another well done has to go to the Arsenal Ladies who last night battered FC Bobruichanka 6-0 in their second leg of the Womens Champions League. The victory gave our already treble winning side a 10-0 winning aggregate to progress into the next round.

Cracking eh……

I have huge faith in both of them Rico especially oz( how do you write or pronounce that kid’s name, God firtsr woijech zchesny now this dude! Seems we always have players with really weird names.) morning HH…..u close ya uP last night and am opening you again? What are the odds?

  2. goonster says:

Top of the morning to you rico….ozy what? I can’t pronounce that. I sooner bite my tongue than try and pronounce that…..does wilshere’s comment bother you? It bothers me!

  3. rico says:

No, neither Jack or Chesneys comments annoy me, Ches has denied his on twitter and we can’t blame players for wanting to play at the top of the game….

Hopefully, that will be with us…

  4. goonster says:

But there’s a condition Rico…..we must be playing at the highest level or they ll jump ship! Am really worried rico, really worried.

  5. rico says:

I know goonster, at the moment no-one knows how this season will pan out, making the top four is going to be tough….

  6. Gooner Sam says:

Morning Rico, I think it all depends on what loan offers they get. A good championship side that can garantee them games is better than reserve football and possible cup games. It gives them the experience of playing under real pressure

  7. goonster says:

Am just frightened at the prospect of jack lining up against us…..he ll probably go the the red side of Manchester. I hope you are right though and he gets to stay and retire an arsenal legend. Woijech too!

  8. rico says:

    Morning Sam,

agree re the playing time but most of our players that get loaned seem to sit on the bench, lansbury thankfully is playing but he’s good enough to play for us now…

Its a tough call, things look so shoddy in our midfield, just start to wonder if either of these two could do better…

  9. goonster says:

Spot on gooner sam….look at what loan football did for jack and sturridgee. Who knew? I said this earlier in the season and I ll say it again. Ryo should have been sent on loan…preferably bolton. Him staying back at arsenal and not featuring is a waste of his immense talent. Ryo needs more games to thrive…not just the odd cup games. I fear he might be the next vela!

  10. rico says:

Why worry about somthing which is a long way off goonster? If things take a turn at afc and we could soon be back firing on all cylinders….

  11. rico says:

    Isn’t Ryo unfit?

Look at how ramsey is playing right now, he’s having a shocking time, he should have been dropped by now….

  12. goonster says:

If ramsey is dropped who ll fill in for him? Jack diaby fab nashit sicknote? I understand why Aaron has to play but we won’t really need ryO this season so why not send him on loan. Look at welbeck and sturidge they both came back better players.

  13. rico says:

imho goonster, it identifies that we don’t have depth in strength, most other clubs would have dropped an off form player by now, our problem is exactly as you suggest, who replaces him?

The players that should be are also off form or injured….

  14. goonster says:

Bites doesn’t it….that’s why I want a new coach who ll strengthen us both physically and mentally. I cringe each time I watch ramsey give a wayward pass. He’s so off form that right now he ll make denilson look good. Its really a shame but for shawcross we should have been witnessing a very great player emerging. That injury set him back three years. Hope he gets better though. He’s still one of my favorite.

  15. goonster says:

Tell me about it….am sure the poor dude ll be ruing the day he signed for us. He could have gone straight into that lille team but no wenger chose to bring him over and gave a seat on the arsenal bench. What a waste of talent. Am looking forward to seeing him play this weekend in the asian qualifier. He did look good the few times I saw him.

  16. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Watch our shirt sales in Korea. That is probably why he is at the club. I wonder if he can play right back.

  17. Kharadonha says:

Let the young guns go out on loan to get experience but our manager should keep an close eye on them. after games they play in, Arsene should give them a call to advise where they should correct mistakes and congratulate them when they play well. another thing is when you let your youngsters go on loan, it is the club’s responsibility to encourage them to do well week in week out. for example, how on earth they failed to do that to Wellington Silva, they boy seems to me as if no one at Arsenal has gave him a call to advise what step to take when you are not playing. how to convince the coach not to ignore you as a player.

What is happening at Arsenal is a shame

  18. Adam says:

Hi Rico. My cynicism is balanced I hope. But I do believe the evidence of my own eyes. Reading through the Arsenal sites I am still amazed that there are people who are blaming either the referees or the press. Sure, our predicament allows Sky and the papers a feeding frenzy and Robin’s supposed reluctance to think about a new deal can hardly be construed as positive can it? Wenger has done the bare minimum to address our defensive frailties and bridles at any suggestion that our recent capitulations are in any way his responsibility. The fact that a team like Arsenal now have to rely on Jenkinson for three months at right back is scandalous really. We lucked into haing a decent goalkeeper after waiting several seasons for one. We needed a seriously dangerous striker to take some of the load off Robin and Wenger buys Chamakh. In fact he waited a year in order to secure Chamakh’s signature for nothing. Liverpool bought Suarez who is the player we should have got. Him playing in front of Robin would have been great. Wenger has also become unlucky and that is worrying to me. His blinkered approach has got us to our present league position. We all hope that things improve but I fear they might not. I can’t wait for Diaby to come back so he can get injured again.

  19. Micko says:

    Morning all,
I’d love to know how many youngsters there are out there playing in all the leagues that never made it with us, we were always hearing how good our youth set up was but not many made the step up to the first team, there must be loads of them out there.
Bentley was a great prospect at one time, he was being touted as the next dennis bergkamp, he was getting the odd game here and there, but ended up getting on his high horse and we shipped him out on a couple of loan deals and that was the end of him, he’s now at west ham and still giving it the big i am.

  20. Adam says:

Micko. You are right. Just goes to show that mental attitude is vital to fulfill potential. Bentley was the new Bergkamp in his mind only as his laughable website proved. What a total Wally! All the talent but a micro intellect and a planet-sized ego. Uneasy bedfellows.

  21. Gooner Sam says:

I’m with you that maybe we should play them seeing as this season is a right off anyway. I feel sorry for players like Ramsey having to play every week when they are clearly not ready and have to much pressure to perform.

  22. rico says:

Adam, re your 11.04, same here, and it’s balanced as we witness the same things over and over – the same injuries, the same excuses etc…

yes, we have bad luck with some decisions but i think many teams do, we know that in reality it’s an excuse, we should be playing better with the team we have…

  23. rico says:

    Hi Micko,

There are many, just why the project youth that Wenger tells us is so good, isn’t quite all it’s made out to be…..

  24. Gooner Sam says:

The problem is project youth is on the face of it good business sense (although you could easily argue that by oaying players so much so young turns them into mercenaries) that is why Wenger raves about it. Problem is it alone won’t win you things, something Wenger no longer cares about. We are simply now a stepping stone for players to make a name for themselves

  25. Micko says:

There is hope, Alisher Usmanov is the second richest man in the premier league with 12.4bn and is making all the right noises, only the sheikh at man city has more money or is that too simple.

  26. rico says:

Sam, we also pay the youth players far too much – they think they have made it before they are anywhere near…

Micko, I honestly believe AU will make a move for us, can’t think why else he would hang onto his shares, unless Stan wasn’t rich enough to but them…

bring it on i say 🙂

  27. Joaquim Moreira says:

It is not difficult to pronounce! 🙂
Ramsey and Arteta will give the “crash” (or are already paying). We have no midfield players enough for all the games we have with the load we have. As I said a month, the output of Fabregas, Nasri, Eboue, Denilson, etc. has not been rectified and now we suffer for it. I repeat: it is preferable to have a balanced team with more players in midfield that in another position. Arsenal try to do my best until January, bet big in January to return in force next season and give new life from January to the end of the season. What it takes to be a scout from Arsenal? 🙂

  28. mog says:

just seen on arsenal.com that kos and djorou have been picked for international duty. though they were both injured

  29. agirlagunner says:

Boo! The house is very quiet; I am unused to it. I think loans to PL sides would serve us best. It ought to give them the right preparation for first team action. 😉

  30. rico says:

Boo to you agag, the only problem is ours seem to go on loan, sit on the bench or return early injured….. 🙁

    Look at Bartley and Afobe….

  31. mog says:

in another article gazidis says arsenal will be fine without champs league finance next year and will still be able to compete.
    (did’nt say with who though)
so the ceo dos’nt think were a top 4 club anymore either.

  32. agirlagunner says:

I know, rico!! Even in other clubs, our players seem to carry that Arsenal injury curse. How are you?

Hey, mog. I hope Kos and JD are not played. Our defense is in doodoo as it is; we don’t need more crocked defenders.

  33. agirlagunner says:

Our top brass has no ambition. None. Grrrr. As long as they are able to line their pockets, it seems little else matters.

  34. rico says:

mog – gazidis talks b****x, he just says what seems to be ‘as it is’ at the time – no way will stan believe that not making champions league is acceptable, he’ll be having nightmares over his share value….

Either that, or he is a big fat liar about not having any money….

  35. rico says:

I’m good thanks agag, busy busy but good – all ok with you i hope?

I don’t get the injury curse, too many athletes i think and not enough muscle and bulk on our fragile squad…

  36. mog says:

agag they probobly will play get injured and be keeping jack company until the new year. vp at best will come back with a nock, could be months though it usually is. and theo normally comes back limping or in plaster hope cashly plays both games and keeps gibbs on the bench, its been about 3 weeks since his last injury so hes do another one.

  37. mog says:

rico but one minute we strugle to compete finanhely with champs league money. ( is it min £25 million upto £40 million if you reach the final). the next minute everything in the garden wil come up smelling of roses without it.

  38. agirlagunner says:

I seriously think our boys need a change in diet. 😉 More meat and potatoes, rico. 😀

mog, I have a suspicion some of ours will take a knock this interlull. Happens all the time, anyway. But not RvP, please. Although he seems due one… 🙁

  39. rico says:

    exactly mog, his comments stink….

If Gazidis is truthing and the club are happy to see the club miss out on the extra finance, they should have given that amout the wenger in the transfer window……

  40. rico says:

I do too agag, they are footballers not ‘athletes’ in the true sense of the word, they don’t need to be lean, they need to be strong and mean….

  41. oliver says:

afternoon all…i read gazidis’ comments and didn’t get the sense he would be pleased about missing out on cl competition next season…more of a sense that the club has prepared for that possibility and can withstand the potential loss of revenues for a season or perhaps two…

what he did not say, however, is what specific impact will this have on player recruitment and resignings? if missing the cl will not bite so hard, is it because we have the money from this seasons player sales, among other things? will that mean that next summer will mean very, very limited player recruitment? will that mean we will be unable to offer the likes of robin and theo new deals with competitive compensation?

i don’t expect him to openly discuss these things, but they are worth considering…we may be able to withstand a season or two not in the cl, but i think this will come at a cost…

  42. oliver says:

regarding the call-ups, i would be shocked to see a manager as accomplished and experienced as herr hitzfeld play jd if our defender was unable to go…perhaps switzerland recalled him for a fitness assessment or to have him at least at the camp.

likewise, i don’t expect larry white to play kos either…unless, of course, both players are actually fit enough to play…then, all bets will be off, as both teams are trying to qualify for next summer’s tournament.

either way, i have no problem if the national coaches are recalling these players simply to assess fitness. just don’t try and play them if they cannot go…i don’t expect either manager will under those circumstances.

  43. rico says:

Hi oliver, but what is the point in calling players up – their club has said they are not fit, that should be enough… afc pay their wages…

  44. oliver says:

all true, ricco…but think back about a year or so…do you remember all the controversy and angst when van marwijk called robin up for a friendly in amsterdam/rotterdam? robin had been out injured and the club insisted that he was not available…he joined up with the netherlands squad and, lo-and-behold, was declared fit and played…and then we started playing him upon his return…

i know i am being cynical here, but our club saying a certain player is not fit and said player actually being incapable of playing are not always the same thing…our club has previous in this area…

  45. rico says:

I just think it all stinks oliver, a player is either fit or not, simples….

oh, and with what comes out of our club, you have every right to be cynical….

So, that suggests that Kos was dropped for the Totts game and wenger preferred Song…

  46. oliver says:

maybe…kos and jd may well be unfit – considering we are down to bare bones in defence, arsene is taking a huge risk if kos is actually fit…in jd’s case, i think losing his place for a bit of time might not be the worst thing…he has been very, very poor for a while now – and that includes his utterly abysmal performace in the qualifier versus england at wembley…to me, he has not done enough to keep his spot…

regardless, if i were either hitzfeld or larry white, i would want to at least check it out for myself…make the assessment, and if the players are unfit, send them home…no harm, no foul there…it is only a problem when unfit players played – and that has happened both at international and club levels…

i do think we play fast and loose with the injury report – my personal opinion…i don’t think we do so to the levels of belichik, who famously listed every injury for every player on his team – including tom brady’s hangnail…

if manuel almunia is feeling slight soreness in his ribs or thigh following a match – something the can be attributed to physical exertion – do you not think arsene uses this as cover to drop him? i do…
he is not being dishonest – the player actually does feel the pain/discomfort…but he is out of the side, and neither manager nor player need to address direct questions about it…i suspect this has happened on more than one occasion, with more than one player…

  47. rico says:

Trouble is oliver – i am too honest, if i were a manager i wouldn’t faff around and i certainly wouldn’t wrap players in cotton wool.

they are either injured or not, they are either off form or not and i would tell it as it is…

Fergie came out after their draw with Basle and said his side were poor, Wenger however makes excuses…

But, one thing i wouldn’t do and that is allow a player who my medics said was injured go off on international duty …. I would have faith in my own team to judge a player and not need or allow a second opinion, especially when there is so much travelling involved…

But, that is only my own opinion…

  48. oliver says:

i would be honest as well ricco…in the event i had to take an action like drop a player, i would not answer any question about the player’s status until i have already told the player – to his face – what the situation is…unless there was a situation of misconduct, i would always leave the door open for the player to regain his place – provided he works hard and regains his form…but i would use what is best for the team as a whole – not individuals – as my guide in these situations…

if i can drop a player, and he can overcome that and come back stronger, surely that will give me some confidence that the player will know what to do when in-match adversity strikes? or at least know how to respond…

injuries and international fixtures will always be a problem – one party will always be unhappy…i would try and be straight-up with the national managers. if the player is fit then i should make him available for selection, regardless of whether or not i actually wanted him to play. if he is unfit, i would talk to the national manager directly, and try and get cooperation that way, before anything leaks to the media…

and that is not to suggest that arsene does not do any of these things himself…just to emphasize that is how i would look to handle these particular situations.

  49. Joaquim Moreira says:

    hi, night sll
everybody is upset in this Club.
The score last weekend ias awful for our pride.
    Nothing comming to help us…

  50. rico says:

spot on oliver, some things do need to be kept in house, but not bad performances, they are too clear for all to witness… I just get a bit bored with all the blame being put on the ref, the pitch, the lino, the wind, the rain blah blan – just be honest about what happened in the match – if we are poor, tell it that way rather than feed the media bull…

Re the dropping of players, i played sport from a very young age, not to a great standard, but not bad – if and when i got dropped it did made me work harder, in my mind i thought, you bastards, you won’t do that again and i worked harder…. that is where the problem is imho, they all think they are superstars, they get paid too much and getting dropped means little… They know they will soon be back, they don’t need to put the effort in…

    Unlike so many others…..

  51. rico says:

oliver – i would love to stay but i need to go off for the day, have a good afternoon and lovely eveing, catch up tomorrow…

    Nighty night

The Arsenal academy came into existance in the summer of 1998.
Since then, approx 50 youngsters have graduated into the Arsenal 1st team after some time developing in the Arsenal Academy.
Currantly there are 10 players in and around the 1st team squad, who have spent some time learning their trade in the Arsenal Academy : Djourou,Gibbs,Szczesny, Watt, Frimpong, Wilshere, Coquelin, Henderson, Miquel & Ozyakup.
Loanees Bendtner, Bartley & Lansbury have also been a part of Arsenal’s Academy…
