Tragedy strikes Football! Belgian on his way in & M'Vila agrees terms, just not with us!!

Good Morning Gooners,

Well there is not much gossip today to write about…

Yesterdays post about Victor Wanyama caused a bit of a stir with a number of Celtic fans with many suggesting he is worth far more than the newspapers valuation of £7 Million. Most believe he is a hard tackling no-nonsense midfielder who would slot into any Premier League side and make them a much stronger unit, especially ours. In fact one fan said he is just what Arsenal need to make us a real force in the Premier League.

So, if Arsene Wenger really is scouting this player and he makes a successful bid, it seems that we should not be disappointed, not for one minute. Suggestion is that Yann M’Vila has agreed terms with the local neighbours so if that is true, the defensive midfield options are one down with not too many left to go.

The RvP saga goes on, but it seems that one place he wont end up is Manchester City as yesterday Roberto Mancini admitted defeat in his attempts to sign him. Like us his club are really struggling to offload a few players but can’t. That’s not because they are rubbish and no other club wants them, it’s all down to the silly money they are paid, an amount that most other clubs can’t match.

Van Persie? No, I don’t think he will come here.

No I don’t believe him either!

Time is ticking by, twenty five days remain in this transfer window and whoever wants to sign our captain best get a move on, just like Robin is today with the rest of the squad as they head of to Germany. In the meantime, Wenger is reported to be eyeing up Olympiakos striker Kevin Mirallas to replace our captain if he does eventually make a move away.

Mirallas can play wide or up front and last year he stole the headlines for his club last season by picking up the league’s top scorer and player of the year awards.

Again it’s all guess-work, just as The Daily Mirror are doing today. There is an article this morning which suggests that Arsene Wenger is making the right signings, the ones that could see RvP backtrack on his decision not to sign a new contract, if you are interested in reading it, it’s here.

Hopefully Arsenal will finally confirm the arrival of Santi Cazorla today and we’ll get to know more about what is happening with Sahin..

That’s about it for the day but to end with report which puts the whole will he or won’t he saga, the transfer rumours, in fact the whole world of football into perspective.

That is the tragic news from Romania where young Nigerian striker, Henry Chinonso Ihelewere died during a pre-season friendly yesterday between his club Delta Tulcea and Romanian Liga III side, FC Balotesti.

The 21-year-old collapsed after being on the pitch for just fifteen minutes. Doctors of both clubs battled to resuscitate him for about 30 minutes on the pitch without success.

Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

RIP young man……

‘Til tomorrow…..

another young fit man collapsing and dying. I think an autopsy should be published to see if they aren’t on drugs

  2. Adam says:

Good morning on today’s blog Rico. Sad news again. Is it me or are these awful things happening more regularly these days?

  3. CowboyGunner says:

Such a tragedy that is occurring far too often. Not only does it put things into perspective, but it also sends a reminder to us all that no matter how strong, smart, secure, or assured we might be, we can go at any given moment.

Treasure life, treasure friendships, treasure sport, treasure art, and treasure rivalry. But always be sure to leave it on the field, because in the end, we are all on the same quest for love and truth…well most of us at least.

And treasure your Gunners or whoever it might be that sends your blood boiling into ecstasy or despair.

Peace and harmony. RIP Henry. Your memory will be kept alive.

    Morning all

It does seem so Adam, Adrenalin rush is contributed, but 15 mins in a friendly seems odd, maybe he had a heart defect which hadn’t been picked up…

  5. Adam says:

You are most likely right there Rico. still a real tragedy for the poor lad and his family.Things like this touch us all – well, most of us anyway.

  6. rico says:

Funny really, up early wondering if we’ll hear about Santi etc and then Lee told me about this poor young man – don’t know him, never met him and yet it can have an effect on my mood…

I thought of Fabrice and wonder how he is feeling after this news too, I really hope he makes the decision to never play again, he may not be so fortunate should he suffer again…

  7. CowboyGunner says:

I remember in high school how our leg breaking CB’s little 15 year old brother was simply warming up on a treadmill at the local athletic club. He collapsed and died. A perfectly great healthy kid with a genius IQ like his big brother. Sometimes you can’t try and make sense from it, but rather reflect upon what’s most important to you and make sense of things in your own life.

I’ve been working on bills and surfing nonsense making my fiancee wait in bed for me. Good night all. i’m headed off to let her know what’s most important to me. Sad news, but hopefully once again it will bring out the best in people. After Aurora (where i used to goto movies) and the Sikh tragedy in Wisconsin, I am done trying to understand why. Instead, I will make sure that those who are in my life know what they mean to me. Sorry so sappy.

Peace and harmony. ‘Night Gooners. Or top of the morning…

Wouldn’t they just Lee – De Matteo the first sacked in this new season, have to ask Syg what the odds are 😉

Morning Adam, a lot of writing in store for you then?!
Morning Lee, a flying holiday this w/e, sounds good mate.
    Very poignant words Cowboy.
I was gonna say, ‘as you ride into the sunset’ but maybe this isn’t the time!
Cowboy, you must visit more often. Views from across the brook are always welcome.
You could be our Silent Stan correspondent…

  11. Adam says:

Still, some things never change eh? Cashley moaning about Arsenal fans by telling us to move on. How stupid is this bloke? I think it’s him who needs to move on. Sometimes I look at the talent/moron ratio of some players and wonder, if there is a God, how can Ashley Cole and many others be explained?

  12. rico says:

Actually, it’s quite funny, trying to lay turf with four chickens waiting to attack it is not easy. Thankfully, managed to get it covered quite quickly….

Sometimes you just can’t have enough chicken wire in the shed 😉

Talking of which, when are you getting your new shed Adam…

  13. Adam says:

Hi Kev. Yes, just having a cup of tea and a guinea pig on toast before getting stuck in. Tax returns to get sorted too. You still in town for a few days?

  14. rico says:

    Morning Kev, very sad….

Cashley is a sad man, still love Cheryl and still loves Arsenal. Sadly for him, neither love him any more….

  15. Adam says:

New shed arrives tomorrow Rico. So if you come round early I will have a pot of green tea waiting and of course a seagull milk shake.

  16. allezkev says:

Is it just me, but I can’t remember the last time I read any Arsenal fans ranting about Cole.
    Maybe he craves attention?

  17. Philo says:

what a sad news for the lad. Regular medical exams should be conducted to footballers not only during transfer windows.

I really don’t know how to respond to that comment alan….

Easy Rico, just say ” Yes Alan, that makes sense as these sportsmen are known to commit drug offences, and an autopsy would if anything, clear him from any public suspicion as to why footballers are collapsing and dying ”

Autopsys happen every day Rico, for good reason

Adam, sure will be an autopsy, however, publishing it may not happen

  19. rico says:

Now there was me thinking it was her voice Adam, you being an expert in that field 😉

    I can’t expand, I would have to spam myself…

Quite right Adam, which compels me to ask why we are landing toys on Mars, rather than spending the money on medicine and helping the less fortunate on the planet, like Spurs supporters

  22. rico says:

    Dream on alan…..

I am sure if anything suspicious is found during the post mortem, it will be made public, but until such times, suggesting his death is anything other than more than a tragic circumstance is disrespectful to his life and passing….

Not at all. I merely state facts. We can sympethize with the lad and his family, but we must also make sure as a matter of course there was no illegal substances, and treat the matter without fear, favour, malice or ill will, as the police will do

  24. Future Governor says:

So sad to hear abt d death of yet another footballer and a Nigerian for that matter. Indeed we are living in a crazy world! Good bye Henry.

  25. Wavy says:

I wonder if Cashley was heard saying to a team mate, ‘ They only offered me £195,000 a week! Well it’s just not enough.I’m not signing for that! They’ve disrespected just like Dein.’
    Nuff said!

They will do so mate. Wait till the tenth game. They will have a field day at the Chavs expense. Remember……no one man army Drogba around.

  30. Merlin96 says:

    Morning al.
Let me jinx teh whole transfer saga:

Nope..Wenger will not buy another player unless he is 16 year old or younger.

AvB hijacked Calzorla, Sahin and Van Persie as Ferguson increases his offer for Van Persie from 12-mil to 12.5-mil.

Bentner, Squillaci and Park CY (and of course CHamakh) declared they were all very excited over all the new signigns and vowed they all intended to stay back and fight for their places from the comfort of Emirates’ Winston Bogarde SUite.

Song’s agent delcared that Barca peomised to pay SOng, 160,000pw for a 4-year contract and begged Arsenal FC to release Alex Song.

Van Persie’s agent declared that his client will accept a signing-on bonus of 5-mil and a 4-year deal at 160,000pw….and RvP is eager to sign a new contract extension now.

Theo Walcott declared he is ready to stay and fight for a place with his agent negotiating a package to pay “what he is worthed”.

There you are people, all in a nutshell…which meant that Arsene Wenger will sign f**k-all now……waiting for who blink first on August 31 at 23:59:59.
    .

  31. Merlin96 says:

People, success in the league is inversely proportion to how many pre-season games you win….whenever Arsenal won silverware duirng pre-seaon, invariably, Arsenal won f**k-all for the whole season.

You people forgot the Curse of winning Charity Shield.. 😆

  33. devilgunner says:

    Morning Rico. Good Post.

Bondex………..the thing is that the Scum from the slum have invaded all the newspapers and top brass and that is why there is so much AFC hate in the press. The best thing is do not buy the newspapers and do not go on their websites.

But I can safely bet that the Chavs will be between the 6th and 14th place after the first 10games.

  35. southyorkshiregunner says:

Morning all. Foe, Muamba now this kid… There’s something not right …

The state of Scottish football brought up a subject that I’d thought of a couple of times and then forgotten about until Arsenal’s recent links with Kenyan International and Celtic enforcer Victor Wanyama.
My argument was that Scottish football, the SPL in particular is in the worse state it has ever been, and that any decent player, playing there WOULD be the stand out guy.
The SPL once attracted the likes of Paulo Di Canio and Giovanni Van Bronkhurst when the big two clubs could offer the money and the realisation of trophies. Although the moves of those two served as a stepping stone into the English Premier League (EPL), it was a fact that Scottish football back then could still attract big name players.
In the past, Scotland has been blessed with great players such as Jim Baxter, Alan Gilzean, Kenny Dalglish, Lou Macari, Ally McCoist, Gary McAllister, Ian Durrant etc., however the current crop of who and what is coming through reads like a very poor man’s version of what is happening in England. I suppose it boils down to the lack of both development and money, which creates the catalyst for what is happening now. It is sad. Look at Celtic’s squad. Joe Ledley is a tidy player, but not up to what would be required at Arsenal and their top forward is Anthony Stokes, a player rejected by both us and Sunderland.
Former Rangers player Charlie Adam looked a class act in a poor Blackpool side, but he certainly didn’t cut it with Liverpool.
Victor Wanyama at No. 67 is supposedly the stand out player for Celtic and the tabloids are linking him and every other defence minded midfielder to the Arsenal, as Arsenal do have a problem in that position. The question is, is he any better than what we have got?
In reality I don’t know, and neither does anyone else as the level of current Scottish football at this period in time, as stated, is dire.
What I do know however, is that if Alex Song and Abou Diaby left Arsenal to ply their trade up there, they would be seen as “majestic enforcers” who could dictate the player through guile, power along with a bit of showboating for the fans.
In football there are different levels. The EPL is much stronger than the SPL and Arsenal are certainly at a different level to Celtic.
Celtic played us over two legs in the Champions League the other year.
Celtic wanted to win a damn sight more than Arsenal. The nature of the beast in Scotland is to turn the English over. Passion is what all Scots are famed the world over for. They have far more passion; a passion like the underdog has in the FA Cup when up against the big boys. Passion can carry you – but in reality, only so far.
Arsenal never moved out of second gear and if it wasn’t for lacklustre finishing by Arsenal, Ramsey in particular and the fact the defence had got the deck chairs out when Massimo Donati hit a 91st minute consolation the overall aggregate score would have been a lot better that 5-1 to the Arsenal.
Just recently Rangers have been demoted into the bottom tier of football and have lost all their best players, and Steven Naismith is one, a player that Arsenal had the chance to buy – but didn’t. Irony has it that he played in the same side as our reserve centre back Kyle Bartley.
Three players not good enough for Arsenal playing in Scotlands top two teams?
The upshot is, is that our second eleven would win the SPL with little problems.
Hindsight tells us, that if we had got shut of Bendtner, we could have bought Rangers FC with the money from his sale, and created a 50,000-gate feeder-club and the pluses of something such as this could have been unlimited.
We could have ultimately had a stepping stone for players to come into the EPL. It could have worked the other way too.

  36. Scott fom Oz says:

    Another player gone.
Another player of African descent passing on from apparently similar problems.
    It just can’t be coincidence.
There is no way drugs will be a factor,it’s something genetic,or its linked to dietary deficiencies during childhood,in my opinion.
RIP young man,and our thoughts go to the family and friends he left behind.
I bet he wasn’t earning 200k a week, nor was he asking to leave his club to win a bloody trophy!!!,

  37. devilgunner says:

This is so unfortunate, losing yet another footballer within a short space of time. My the soul of this young lad rest in peace.
As for Cashley Cole, I think he is a moron for making such comment when no gunner gives a hoot about him anymore. We have moved on a long time ago. We’ve also moved on his replacement; the crying Gallas.

  42. Scott fom Oz says:

I know Pele, but he’s one you could buy to do a job now,but will be a superstar run the future….he’d be going cheap,as well.
    I agree it won’t even enter Wengers thoughts,and I couldn’t blame I’m,but I can dream!!
Still,my main target has been Podolski, followed closely by Schwarzer,so I’m halfway there.

  45. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

    Hi Rico,

Variousa reports saying AFC should announce Cazorla today. Hope it’s true.

As for M’Vila, i’ll be so upset if he ends up down the road!

  55. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Also had a chat with a local in a bar about Tomas Rosicky. He was saying how Tomas has always had very weak hamstrings, but like me agreed that he was one of the most elegant players i’ve seen in an Arsenal top. The way he turns on the ball is beautiful. Shame injury robbed him of his best years though 🙁

  56. allezkev says:

    Here we go Mick…

    El Bandito…
    Crook/Untrustworthy…. eg; Barcalona

How’s that to be getting on with?

Will Gregory van der Wiel his dream transfer to a foreign club make anyway?
Arsenal have bid of just under 9 million euros given on the right back of Ajax, whose contract expires in a year.

De Telegraf is a bitch to translate ….

  59. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

No problem Rico, it was fantastic. I’ve got a few holidays coming up. Greece at the end of this month, then Sicily in October!!

  60. allezkev says:

Then he’ll do for me SYG….
Just the right age to give it everything at the peak of his career…

    Any news on Sahin…?
Think that AW really wants him, but doubt that Moaninho wants AW to have him…

  61. southyorkshiregunner says:

Mourinho and Wenger have had issues, however Mourinho is the ultimate professional, and outside of Guardiola – is probably the best manager in world football.

  62. allezkev says:

    Love the Espaniola SYG…
We’ll soon have Mick speaking it like a native….

VdW, you like him don’t ya Rico.
He had a poor Euros, but that just means he’s now within our price range.

Like M’Vila… Although the more I read on him, the more he seems a bit El Loco.
See Mick, it’s really that easy, amigo….

  63. devilgunner says:

Toulalan can play at DM and at CB Kev. I will have him in a flash. He has such a good presence. However, although he is at 29 yrs unlike Arteta he has never played in the EPL. And that goes against him. If he was around 25 it would have been different.

  64. devilgunner says:

El Loco is putting it mildly Kev. For M’Vila you can translate the name of Cashley+Pennant. He is a mixture of both I feel. I would rather have Capoue.

  65. rico says:

I’d have to say Fergie has been the best manager, with the sense to change his assistant every few years…

Although it pains me to admit that…

  66. rico says:

Romford – read it again 😉

agag is the huge fan of him Kev but he can play anywhere across the back can’t he? Would solve our full back situation big time..

  67. southyorkshiregunner says:

Diablo hombre Gun – that’s sort of Devil Gunner in Spanish..

Good players adapt … Look at Silva and Aguero, Yaya etc

Toulalan isn’t a 20 cap wonder from Montenegro, he’s played with the French team around 40 times – Henry, Nasri, Gallas, Gichy, Sagna, Viera, Pires etc.
    Like M’Vila he’d fit in…

  68. southyorkshiregunner says:

Ferguson has been with one team plus Aberdeen. He took years to sort Man Utd and was a nats chuff from getting the elbow, before he saw success.

Mourinho has never been away from success and at the top end of the scale, and with different clubs… His man management you have to say is exceptional…

  69. allezkev says:

Coach, gotta say M’Vila is losing his lustre for me.
SYG, Toulalan is very impressive, I like him a lot, and that French left-back, he’s good.
    Rather him than VdW tbh.
Capoue, not seen any of him, but totally respect Coach’s opinion.
Not sold on the Celtic guy either.
Someone on here earlier really put that scenario into perspective.

  70. southyorkshiregunner says:

At the moment Wenger is building a new team within the team. Exciting times ahead… Sky today and the Spanish press yesterday are linking us with Affellay …
.. it’s nice that they’re linking us with top players rather than the unproven youngsters or players that we, or some of us have never heard of… How Affellay would fit in I have no idea….

  71. wellingooner says:

This Nigerian guy is not the only one. A 22 year old player for Columbus Crew in the MLS died also, he was not on the pitch, he’s had a groin injury, he died in the middle of the night in hospital and they’re still not quite sure what the cause of death was.

  72. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Apart from M’Vila’s bad boy reputation, I can’t see what’s so bad about him? Better than both Capoue and Toulalan

  73. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Yes Bondex…. M’Vila is the youngest but already the best. He has a higher tackling percentage and is a good passer, both short and long. Also, he’s the first choice DM for France, ahead of the Diarra’s, Toulalan and the uncapped Capoue. Says something right?

  74. EastSidePaul says:

What is this about M’vila possibly joining S**rs?!!!
Why on earth would anyone join them over us?!

  75. Scott from Oz says:

I’m not knocking Pep,Fergie or Jose, but they’ve each been afforded big budgets to work with, and have a different outlook to Wenger,so a comparison is never going to be fair,I believe.
Yes,it takes a good man manager to cope with big name prima donnas, and the above three are good at it,but the best overall football manager is Guus Hiddink,in my opinion.
As for Wenger,he’s more of a total CLUB manager, than he is a man manager or starting eleven manager.
He looks at the big picture, and doesn’t simply ask for more money,he’s involved in generating it,and in my eyes, should be respected for the job he’s done with limited funds.
Our record signing is 15 million.
How many current players do Barca,Utd and Real have that cost more than that?
Its why I do not rate Mancini, and thinks he’s just a total wanker.
He’s spent hundreds of millions, yet is bitching because he can’t have more money??
Seriously,he’s no great manager,as any manager worth two bob would succeed given the money he’s had to spend.
The question I’d like people to ask themselves is this…..could Fergie,Mancini,Pep or Jose come to Arsenal, operate under exactly the same guidelines and have done a better job??
    It’s easy to say yes,but I don’t believe it.
I think Pep would stand the best chance of those four, but still wouldn’t have done any better, tough it’s possible he’d have had some influence in bringing Spanish players to the club….sorry Alan 🙂
    Anyway,Wenger,and yes,even Ivan,are doing the business right now,so let’s stand behind them…even you,Merlin lol.

  76. EastSidePaul says:

I’d still take Gourcuff in! 😉

Scott, I think I will place an order this week… You said your watch looked very authentic?

  77. Lee says:

Hello WATH…we’re waiting for Malaga to sign off Cazorla but that’s it….SO FAR!!
    M’Vila’s enroute as we blog…

  78. Will says:

Keep Rvp, Get this guy from Celtic, get in the two midfielders and we can make a realistic shot at the title.

  79. W.A.T.H says:

Cazorla is a done deal mate we busy with more as we speak……! Not sure abt M’Vila but hope so…!

Hartson probably right Rico BUT doesn’t mean we wont at least give it a real good go for the first time in years..!

  80. Scott From Oz says:

    ESP,it’s a perfect copy.
One of the guys who put me onto this site took his in to a Tag Heuer specialist in New York, and he had to convince him his was a copy.
    You’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
    I’m off us.
Have a great day,and may I wake up to Cazorla on our site in a Gunners shirt!

  81. W.A.T.H says:

Just a normal weekend Rico you know how it is 😉 food drinks and more drinks…! lots of tv…!

  82. southyorkshiregunner says:

I think if we get Sahin and another big name Van Persie will run his contract down – So, yes I think he’d do a U-turn.
As a manager, I would certainly not sell him to a competitor.

    Podolski – 100cap German international
Giroud – Top scorer in Ligue 1
Van Persie – Top Scorer and player of the year in EPL
Ox-Cham – currently the brightest talent in English football
Walcott – The quickest and most exciting English player at the Euro’s. Could be awesome … Could
+Gervais – He’s talented and raw, but he could learn.
….Park, Bendtner, Chamakh I’d get shut of

Arteta – the most underrated midfielder in the EPL and Spain.
Arshavin – Russian captain – was one of the world’s top 5 players and 74 caps
Rocisky – Czech captain and 87 caps for Czechs
Wilshere – England’s best midfielder since Gerrard and Beckham
Ryo – the brightest talent in Asian football and not far behind Walcott
Ramsey – Welsh captain with 21 caps and only 21yo. He had taken Diaby’s place as a regular in the team prior to the Stoke game.
Sahin – The other year was voted (polled half the votes) as the best player in German football
    Cazorla – Enough said
Coq, Lansbury & Frimpong should I feel be integrated, but never, ever all at once – League cup included…
    ….Diaby & Song I’d get shut of.

Sagna – Versatile 32 cap French international. Nice player. Its a pity we haven’t his presence at left back
Gibbs – Hopefully the next Ashley Cole. I like him better than Glichy.. Hope he improves
Santos – Hopefully he too improves
Mertesacker, Koscelny & Vermalen – I think we are sound in that department, but A.N other would be a good move
    Djourou, Squillaci definitely out.
Jenkinson and Bartley I’d move on – loans or sales – I aren’t bothered. Miguel looks a more composed option.

    That’s 7 out. Replace with 4.
the midfield – M’Vila or Toulalan or Rico’s lad – Steve Capoue
and the defence with Van Der Weil and an excellent centre half.

With the Wenger philosophy and going “properly” for all four trophies and not pissing about chopping and changing the side with wholesale changes, That squad would win the Premier League, and put up a better showing in all three cup competitions.

Rule 1. Know your best side.
If you want to change or rest players – Do it one, two or if needed 3 at a time providing there are no injuries.

  83. allezkev says:

    Wath, bunking off again.
Bet he’s down the bottom of Southend Pier, fishing, or doing his pocket money jn the arcades?!!!
Straight to your room when you get home, young man, and no tea.
Grounded for the rest of the week….

Ah, just realised, the school’s are on holidays…
Never mind, I’ll still send you to your room.
That’ll teach ya for disobeying your Grandad…

  84. allezkev says:

SYG, I like your style, but I’d still give Diaby one last chance.
But that really would be last chance saloon.
Song, not bothered ( sorry Nasher )…

  85. allezkev says:

Wonder if Wenger will take any of the youngsters over to Koln..?
I see absolutely no point or benefit in taking Chamakh, Park, Squillaci or Bendtner.
But I’d like to see RVP & Arshavin on the plane…

  86. W.A.T.H says:

Ur going mad Grandad, fine chance me spending my pocket money and as for what you give me that 50p at Xmas didn’t go very far..!

  87. southyorkshiregunner says:

Chamakh, Park, Squillaci and Bendtner ought to have their squad numbers stripped off them,
Gazidis: “Get your agents to sort you out a new club or lose your career.”

  88. W.A.T.H says:

SYG, think you’ll find Arsenal are also so far wanting decent fee’s for these crap players…! Stop being so stupid, use common sense get in what we can and get them OFF our books… Problem solved.

  89. Lee says:

SYG, what you said the other day is probably going to happen, loads of clubs trying to nick a bargain basement deal! Bit like AW…..

  90. southyorkshiregunner says:

So stupid? Taking the squad numbers off them?
    Come on WATH??
Part of the problem Arsenal have got is getting shut of the deadwood. They are a disruptive influence.
Any member of staff who is tossing it off prior to a move to another company is ALWAYS seen as a disruptive influence. They never, ever give 100%. Never.
Ten minutes before knock off you tell them – “Clear your desk, pal and don’t come back in – you’re paid up until the end of the month – It’s been nice knowing you, now fuck off.”

We hung on to Bendtner last year and he ended up at a competitor for NIL fee – a competitor who rolled us over 2-0 in the FA Cup… He must have been laughing his head off at us….
It is the worst kept secret in football – Every club in Europe know who’s not wanted by Arsenal and Bendtner apart, we are not wanting the earth for any of them as Chamakh, Squillaci and Park won’t realise any decent fee if anything at all. Denilson is a chief example of the bad business we’ve done.

    INTENT works both ways.

You pussyfoot about with someone trying to show them the exit, and nine times out of ten they’ll piss you about.
Kick them up the arse and sling them out by the scruff of the neck and it’s a totally different scenario.

INTENT means that you mean business.

It’s the difference between a £500 fine and a seven-year stretch at HMP.

  91. Micko says:

Lee, whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

SYG, put your glasses back on, wath was agreeing with you.

  92. southyorkshiregunner says:

“Stop being so stupid,” exclaimed WATH whilst adding, ” Use common sense etc…”
I’m glad he’s not arguing with me ! Lol

  93. Lee says:

Arselona’s alledged interest in song is a cunning plan so that they can get their grubby hands on the Squillster!

  94. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Sorry Adam …
over 20 caps for France and he has always looked well out of his depth …Mind you Silvestre had 40 and he was even more shite …

Have we ever bought any decent players off Man Utd?

I think Silvestre was pay back for us flogging them Ian Ure.

  95. W.A.T.H says:

SYG you plonker………….. 😀 stop being stupid and use common sense was directed at our “management’ also should of added stop trying to be so bloody greedy but thats a norm for that lot…!

  96. Adam says:

Micko. I knew you were a bright guy who knew class when he saw it. Lee’s conspiracy theory is interesting but too far fetched I think. SYG has realised the error he made with his initial assessment of my equine idol.

  97. Merlin96 says:

    Hi Adam.
Just that I am weary of all these transfer saga with kicking off to a new season just a mere fortnight away…

Like “99% certainty that RIbery will sign for Arsenal”..only for him to…….

Perhaps Cazorla is like Forlan, flying in to sign for Liverpool, made a wrong turning and ending up in Manchester! 😆

WIth Euro2012 and new buys coming in August, there is simply no tiem to groove new players into the TEAM and we got to stick to all those “old and tried” 2011/12 squad to carry us for the first 2 months of the season.

And why it is vital that Van Persie stays for thsi season till Podlolski and Giroud bedded into the team, perhaps in 3 to 6 months time…

Meaning, we need Arteta-Song-Ramsey and Gervinho-Van Persie-Walcott to continue from 2012/13 season to give us a flying start without last season hiccups during August/Swptember 2011.

Do not expect new players to groove into the team immediatelly.
Wenger will still start with the 2011/12 squad with new players in Poldolski, Giroud and Cazorla coming in a substitutes.

Song’s contract is till 2015 and there is no way Wenger will sell him this season…too much disruption to the team.

    Van Persie?
It will be daft to sell him now as again, it will be disruptive like 2011/12 season. Better to lose 20-mil now than to have another awful 2011/12 season.

Van Persie has more to lose than gain if he cannot prove than he can’t last 2 seasons in succession without a major injury layoff; which also goes to prove that 2011/12 seaosn is a freak, a “once-off” and Van Persie reverts to beign injury-rpone in 2012/13.

By not selling Van Persie, it is a “win-win” situation.
If he continues his scintillating from and scores another 30+ goal season, certianly Arsenal FC will win something as surely our DEFENCE will tighten-up and will nto leak more than 40 league goals.
And at 30 year old in summer 2013, which team will be daft to off r him 200,00pw?

ANd if he reverts to his injury-prone self in 2012/13 season, which team will want him and pay him 160,000pw in 2013???

Either way, it is Arsenal FC gain by not selling him as his 30+ goal will help us to in something.
And if he is injury-prone, he will stay on with Arsenal or we will elt him go on a Bosman…

Tiem for Arsenal FC to stand up to all those sugar daddies and tell them to f**k off…

  98. southyorkshiregunner says:

    HE’S at it again …. Now he’s calling me a plonker ……..

    Trivia here WATH.
In 1969 Victor Henry, the geezer who plays the character role of Wycliffe and Susan George starred in a film – “All Neat in Black Stockings.”
Victor Henry – the character “Ginger’s” terminology of “Plonker” was a lot different to that of “Del-Boy’s” in “Only Fools & Horses” …
… I bet you can’t guess what it meant ….?

  99. Merlin96 says:

Well Bondex, if we sold Overmars, Petit, Hleb and Henry to Barca…….wouldn’t surprise moi that Song’s agent had cleverly compiled ‘Best fo Song’s 101 Tackles” to convince Barca that SOng is better than Yaya Toure in takcling ability, as well as playmaking ability with 14 assists.

Wenger will of course larf away that derisory 15-mil offer and brag that “he will not even sell Song for 50-mil as he is the new FULCRUM of th team since the departure of Fabregas..”……you know, Arsene Wenger has a superb track-record in selling nskae-oil to Barca, as well as to Real.

Remember that 23-mil Anelka Transfer Fund that bought Henry, Pires, Lauren and Gilberto?

  100. Adam says:

Merlin. This may come as something of a shock. But, firstly, we are all weary of it and secondly, it won’t make any differenceat all, absolute zero. Arsenal pay Wenger £7 million or something near to that figure to make decisions based on facts and ideas that we know nothing about. To try to assimilate a few bits from here and there and form a hypothesis from them is fine, as long as you put the words ” in my opinion” as a preface. You have made it abundantly clear with your insults that you don’t like Gazidis. You are constantly calling him a ” bald snake-oil salesman”. But have you ever met him or do you have the slightest basis for your insults? I suspect not. Haven’t you, like so many others, put a few facts together and made him the scapegoat? You were here the other day slaughtering him as usual and saying that he wanted his investment back as soon as possible. I asked then and ask again, what investment? He is a senior employee of the club that I assume you support. We are all frustrated about certain things but some of us try to keep a tenuous grasp on reality.

  101. southyorkshiregunner says:

we could do with that quartet again merlin ……

Loads of stuff in Spain that says Lucas the Brazilian is not joining Man Utd but PSG ….

It’s to be hoped that Robin the Dutchman does the same …

  102. Adam says:

Lee. It’s just that I have only recently been released from a lengthy prison sentence and I am quite paranoid.

  103. agirlagunner says:

RIP, Henry. That is unfortunate. 🙁 🙁 The frequency with which this is happening is alarming though.

    Hello, all! 🙂

  104. W.A.T.H says:

SYG….. Well a plonker is someone who shares his bird with his mates 😉 Am I close..?

I’d say they very similar actually both plonkers 😀

  105. Adam says:

True Lee. I have a certain pallor to my skin and a vicious edge to my tongue. It got me in trouble years ago when I was commanding a platoon of ants in the Islington Ant Wars of the early 80’s.

  106. southyorkshiregunner says:

Yeah you’re spot on WATH. I’m impressed… Why Rodders is one I’ll never know …

Coentrau was a cracking left back at the Euros, Adam …

  107. agirlagunner says:

Interesting news on Juve’s potential transfer activity, SYG. If Robin is to be sold, I just hope it’s done sooner rather than later. Shame, we do not seem as readily able to move our deadwood. 😉

  108. agirlagunner says:

Hi, Adam. What are you writing about? I’m intrigued. 🙂

Hola, GG Man. Howdy? Hi, Lee. 🙂

  109. Adam says:

Hi Agag. I am reviewing a number of music CDs for various magazines and am writing a piece on vintage acoustic guitars and their value as a potential investment.

  110. W.A.T.H says:

Funny how a word like that can change meanings SYG, I prefer the current meaning myself has a nice ring to it………. Rodney just a dipshit lol

  111. agirlagunner says:

I didn’t realize you reviewed records, Adam. 🙂 🙂 That must be a sweet job. Here’s something to help you along: drinkify.org 😀

Hiya, Lee. Do you speak Spanish as well?? Hey, Micko. 🙂

I’m not sure I wat Coentrao. I though Moutinho was amazing at the Euros though. JM would know everything about them.

  112. Adam says:

Pursuant to that Agag I also write short stories for a minor publishing house catering for a very exclusive and some might say, depraved audience.
Drinkify looks fun, but they came up with strange recommendations for the couple of prices of music I entered.

  113. Micko says:

Howdy agag, bank holiday here, just chilling, no monsoon’s i hope, I’d hate to see you wither away.

  114. devilgunner says:

Oyyy. What ‘appened??? I just posted another comment and it is not seen.

Word Press must be playing tricks it seems.

  115. Micko says:

Adam, your not exactly setting a good example to Stanley are ya, he’s been up in court more times than the judge.

  116. agirlagunner says:

Curiouser and curiouser, Adam. 😉 🙂 I get mostly “whiskey” from drinkify. And I don’t touch the stuff. 🙂

Micko, that’s nice. Over here, the entire metropolitan Manila is on red alert. Classes for tomorrow have been suspended in most places since major thoroughfares are flooded. 😕 Not work though. I wish the rains would stop.

Lee, they curse really well in Spanish, don’t they?

Hiya, rico. 🙂 🙂 How are you? Have you started your custard business yet?

  117. agirlagunner says:

But you have layers, you said?? 😉 :0 And you cook/bake! 😀

Hi, Devil. 🙂 Wow, another one who speaks Spanish.

  118. rico says:

    Love this:

The Dutch world judo champion who hit a man after he threw a bottle on to the track at the start of the men’s 100m final on Sunday night said it was an emotional reaction.

Edith Bosch said she had acted out of disappointment and disbelief when the incident unfolded in the Olympic Stadium. The 32-year-old was standing close by when a green plastic drink bottle was thrown from the stands behind the start line.

She later told Dutch television station NOS TV: “I had seen the man walking around earlier and said to people around me that he was a peculiar bloke.

“Then he threw that bottle and in my emotion I hit him on the back with the flat of my hand. Then he was scooped up by the security. However, he did make me miss the final, and I am very sad about that. I just cannot understand how someone can do something like that.”

Bosch’s involvement was brought to public attention on Twitter, where she wrote: “A drunken spectator threw a bottle onto the track! I HAVE BEATEN HIM… unbelievable.”

A man remained in custody at an east London police station on suspicion of causing a public nuisance.

  119. devilgunner says:

No its not me. its google translate. I do not know spanish. English, German, Arabic, Italian and Maltese. French and Spanish are no go for me. 😉

  120. devilgunner says:

Now why didn’t she stuff the bottle down his throat??

Some people are surely a pain in the arse.

  121. agirlagunner says:

She missed her finals though, rico? But she must have been fearsome to see. 😀

Dev, that’s quite a number. Good thing you don’t get mixed up. 🙂 🙂 I always process my thoughts in two languages, and I am forever confused.

    rico, how egg-citing!! 😀

  122. devilgunner says:

Aslan…THE LION OF GOD. That is surely one thing that Arshavin is not. more like a dormouse.

  123. rico says:

This kid is going to be massive for us:

Jack Jebb believes his extra year in Arsenal’s academy could prove vital in his development at the Club.

The 16-year-old left school one year early to train full time at London Colney last season and played seven times for the Under-18s before his scholarship began.

The midfielder scored for an Arsenal XI side against Chesham United on Saturday and the talented youngster wants to ensure he continues to remain one step ahead.

“It was nice to get some opportunities in the Under-18s last season because it was all good experience,” he told Arsenal.com. “The next stage for me is the reserves so hopefully I will get some more games there if I can.

“It was a tough decision to leave school one year early but when I got offered the chance to train full-time I just thought, ‘why not?’ I want to be a footballer and the opportunity was too good to resist.

“Me and Chuba [Akpom] are almost a year ahead of the other boys in our own age group so that is obviously going to help us for the future. I think we have a great squad and we have a good chance of winning both the league and Youth Cup.”

Jebb was one of six first-year scholars involved in Saturday’s victory at The Meadow and was heavily involved throughout as Terry Burton’s youngsters claimed an impressive 6-2 victory.

His goal, a well-struck effort from outside the area, was a result of playing with the freedom provided by Burton, according to the midfielder.

“I try to be a creative central midfielder who likes going forward and having shots,” he said. “While scoring is always nice I like to create opportunities for other players if I can.

“Terry is a good manager and gives us a lot of freedom to do what we want on the pitch. Here I just tried my luck from distance and luckily it went in for me.

“I am really enjoying pre-season so far. I am getting much fitter and am just taking every game as it comes. It was my second game of the summer and I thought I did fine.”

  124. rico says:

Serge Gnabry & Nico Yennaris are both travelling to Germany and RvP is also on the plane..

Full squad announcement expected shortly, guess they haven’t left yet…

  125. rico says:

😆 devil, I suspect he is to a degree, but it sure is nice to see positive things going on with the squad….

    About time too eh 😉

  126. Adam says:

Hi Rico. Oh yes. Tax return done. 2500 word article written and ready for a couple of final edits. Rice in the oven. My time in prison was well spent.

  127. Adam says:

He looks like a man who enjoys his food I must say. Depending on the way this season begins to evolve he might find himself more and more in the news. One thing is certain. He has a better PR machine than van Persie or Arsene or Stan, who actually doesn’t seem to have one at all.

  128. rico says:

😆 Adam… BBQ for me tonight, if the rain stops long enough to cook the Halloumi 🙂

I’m glad devil, I like what he has to say…

  129. rico says:

I think Stan has had a really bad dose of man flu since he became our majority shareholder and has lost his voice….

  130. Adam says:

Rico. That sounds nice. I am having the baked rice with cannellini beans, carrots, onion, the good old sweet Pimenton (what would life be without it) ten cloves of garlic, extra Virgin olive oil and some freshly grated Parmesan. All washed down with a San Miguel.

  131. devilgunner says:

I say that although he says he is a fan at the end of the day he is not a genuine one. He is not say like you and me……we uttered the word Arsenal before we said MA or PA. He does not have AFC in his veins. He does not have red and white DNA. At the end of the day he is concerned with his investment.

The first real AFC chairman who will really live for the club will be the one who makes AFC like Barca…..run by the supporters for the supporters.

I am not a billionaire. If I was and had it in my power to buy AFC that is what I would do. Yes I would retain my shares. But I would make elections at AFC so that no one would ever own the club outright. And preferably do these elections at three year terms. If a president and his council do not work properly for the good of the club the supporters would oust them and elect someone else.

  132. Adam says:

Devil. Rico is right. Stan is none of those things either. Your argument is a purely emotional one and I respect it but it lacks substance. Players won’t play because they love Arsenal. They play for money, lots of it and who knows that better than us? You seem to have set up a sliding scale of who can and who can’t be considered a genuine supporter, but, to me, it is spurious. I could say that that anyone who doesn’t actually go to the games and spend their hard earned money on supporting the team is not as much of a supporter as those who do. But I don’t believe that. In fact, the more I think about it the more I consider that it might be better that the man with the money at the club is not an emotionally tied supporter at all. But a multi billionaire who wants to win.
None of us know anything about Stan’s intentions or of Usmaov’s We hear what Usmanov says and he has expressed a love for the club that we can be pretty sure that Kroenke doesn’t have for the simple reason that he is a sports entrepreneur by profession and we are another one of his businesses. I don’t say that this is necessarily a bad thing. Let’s not make judgements on people based on personal prejudice. What Usmanov promises and Stan doesn’t, is the ability to buy a better class of player as and when we need them. Wenger is the ideal buffer to make sure this doesn’t run riot like it would with most managers. What he wants is success and I share that ambition with him. If Kroenke can’t provide the finance to win then we will either stay where we are or enter a slow decline as other clubs improve. This is where Usmanov sees us. I cannot categorically disagree with him but, before the usual people appear and accuse me of wanting to bankrupt the club or turn Arsenal into Chelsea or Man City, let me say that I don’t. I want Arsenal to win things and I want the best infrastructure and financial set up at the club that will enable this to be a reality rather than just a dream.

  133. rico says:

    Good comment Adam..

I also believe that many judge Usmanov on his past but I always say that everyone has a past and as long as it remains there, does it really matter?

Usmanov has categorically made clear that he plans to buy more and more shares and he wants his ‘ownership’ to remain in his family for many many years ahead.

Surely a man of wealth would not try and break or bankrupt something which he intends to hand down through his children.

We are not Chelsea or man City, we are not in the ‘state’ they were when Roman and the Sheiks took over either of the clubs.

We need tweaks, not a major overhaul and we have so many coming through the reserves who will make it, unlike both of those two clubs.

  134. Adam says:

As we have said so many times Rico, we aren’t that far away. Money might not necessarily buy success but it certainly can help as Chelsea and Man City proved last year. Would they be the European and PL champions without it?
If you look at where we are today then that extra money would surely give us the clout to attract those few extra players that could make the difference. We must never ignore the fact that success breeds success and if we had a better team and started to win things then better players would want to come and our sponsorship bargaining power would increase tremendously. What a ridiculous position Arsenal find themselves in with van Persie. Surely we couldn’t sell him to bloody Man Utd. That would be ridiculous and would be both a moral blow and a reminder of where we are in the PL pecking order. If we had a richer, more ambitious owner would this be a problem? And for all those who are proud of our self sustaining model and our refusal to sell out? Well, we have sold out. The problem is that we did it to a bloke who wasn’t rich enough.

  135. Adam says:

    It was exce
Lent Rico. It is one of those dishes that is slightly different every time I cook it. I try to vary the stock I use and the veggies I put in. As I bought this tin of Sweet Pimenton from a Spanish deli I have found it is much, much better than the supermarket versions and gives the dish a real made in Spain feel to it. The shed arrives tomorrow morning. So if you could be round early to help me put it up I would be grateful. Ooh Matron! That last line sounds like it’s from a Carry On film.

  136. rico says:

I think you and I sing from the same hymn sheet Adam….

Chelsea would be sitting in mid table each season without Roman, Man City, well I suspect they would be a Championship club by now…

Whilst I admire AW for all he has done to get us CL football each season, it is not enough for a club like ours.

Having someone like AU on board would put an end to watching our best players leave each season, something which hurts so many fans.

I’m not all for paying players £250k a week, such an amount is absurd, but it may just mean we can offer players a better wage, as as when they truly deserve it….

Also, I believe he would be ruthless enough to get rid of all the deadwood at a loss, which in turn would save money in the long run…

  137. rico says:

One day I hope to sample one of your fine dishes, maybe you could start up a ready meal company Adam 🙂

You saying I am like Hattie Jacques ?? 😉

  138. Scott From Oz says:

If Usmanov truly loved the club,he wouldn’t/shouldn’t be doing his best to undermine it by constantly making comments such as his latest efforts.
    Morning all.

  139. rico says:

Night Adam, have a lovely evening, what is left of it….

Hi Scott, not sure he is, just think he’s trying to give them a much needed hoof, but like most, I’m just guessing….

Much as I’d love to stick around Scott, it’s nearly my bed time, so best I head off…

You have a good day and catch up in a few hours no doubt lol

    Night all….

What I like is the nice things that generally comes from Arsenal fans. A inheritance that Arsenal set the standard, they brought Class, style and glamour into the working class game and gave their fans a decent, nay, a superb stadium, so much more true to the nature of the game than the present alien named place.

  142. allezkev says:

Yes Scott, I saw that on the BBC teletext.
John Cross on Talk Rubbish said thzt the deal will be concluded tomorrow.

He also hinted that Sahin is close to completion as well.

Suggested that another deal was quite close also, and that RVP will stay.

  143. allezkev says:

John Cross & Ray Parlour were discussing Cazorla, and one of them commented that the Arsenal dressing room was buzzing with excitement since Santi arrived.
It seems that Cazorla is going to get the No.10 role.
He has apparently blown away his new team mates with his ability…
Looks like we’re gonna Rock ‘n Roll this season… 🙂

  144. goonster says:

shut up KEV you are enough to make a man shit himself. God am creaming all over. roll on the new season. i just cant wait. CARZOLAAAAAA!!!!

  145. NashuaGunners says:

Hi Kev, how are things? hope e’thing is OK. missed your comment at 2:29. I disagree there with SYG.

  146. Scott From Oz says:

    Settle Stan,settle.
AK,the guy is a genuine top class player…..combined with Podolski and Giroud,if that doesn’t get people excited, nothing will.
Sahin,as long as we have an option to buy him, then it’s a great deal.
The other may well be M’Villa.
Wenger has said nothing on him lately, the gossip has died off a perfect time for Wenger to announce him.
If RVP goes, then its his loss!!!

  147. Asheer Asheer Nasri says:

Hello gunners we are saying welcome to all new players and i hope wenger buy new player again.

  148. Lee says:

Afternoon Adam/Rico and all… 04.55 my alarm went off this morning!! Been buying a puppy hence my tardiness! Check your inbox Rico…

  149. Adam says:

Morning Lee. Cor blimey that shed just arrived in 3 big, heavy boxes. Got an hour at lunchtime to help me assemble it? Mrs Adam’ tiny frame will be no help at all.
RVP situation seems to be Man Utd or the terrible hardship of staying at Arsenal for £5 million down and a mere £140 k a week.

  150. Adam says:

No Rico. I have to wait for a friend to help me. It’s 8×8 and very heavy in its unassembled form. I normally need a hand with such large erections. Excuse the wording :). We’re back in Carry On territory aren’t we? 🙂
Where is Stan when you need a bit of smut.

  151. rico says:

I’d have to take the easy option Adam, and purchase from a company who did it all for me 🙂

    😆 re your wording too….
