Morning all.

Before anyone jumps down my throat suggesting that 1-1 was a fair result, maybe it was overall but…Β

With less than ten minutes to play and 1-0 up, we really should have been more mature and able to hold onto that lead for the rest of the game.

We were slow to get started, in fact we didn’t really get started until the half-time whistle was about to be blown.

Everton arrived at The Emirates full of confidence having beaten Manchester United in the week and boy did their confidence show in the first 40 minutes. We couldn’t get the ball and even when we did, we couldn’t keep it.

Ross Barkley was running rings around our midfield, Carl Jenkinson was getting battered on the right but for all their possession which at times, was far far superior to ours, they couldn’t find a way through to score.

DistinΒ dragged a shot wide and Barkley had a shot on goal which was deflected over the bar.

Everton were good, some of which was their own doing but a lot was to do with the way we were playing, which was very average, especially in midfield.

But is was us who had possibly the best chances of the first half when Kieran Gibbs was just inches away from getting on the end of a cross from Santi Cazorla and then credit has to go to Tim Howard for getting off his line quickly to stop Olivier Giroud and then Aaron Ramsey.

Half-time came and went…..

Tim Howard was again forced to make a couple of good saves, again from Giroud and Ramsey after which Szczesny was called into action. First he punched away a stinging long distance shot from Pienaar and soon after another from Barkley.

On 70 minutes, Arsene Wenger Β made changes, not just one though, he went the whole hogg and used all three of his substitutes. Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott and Mathieu Flamini came on and off went Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey. (All three had not had the best of days)

Flamini almost broke the deadlock but for a couple of inches again….

Everton then went close,Β Mirallas saw his shot deflect into the side netting and Distin headed over…

Finally, we broke the deadlock on 81 minutes. Tomas Rosicky chipped a ball in from the left, Walcott headed the ball back across goal and Giroud had a gaping goal ahead of him. He totally missed the ball but thankfully, Mesut Ozil was right behind him to bang the ball into the back of the net.

Surely we could hold on for the points…

No.

SubstituteΒ Deulofeu fired home after some build up play in which we were naive to say the least.

Lukaku could have made it 2-1 before the end but he didn’t and thenΒ Giroud very nearly stunned us all with a stunning shot from distance which only the right hand-side corner of the woodwork denied…

The game ended soon after with points shared.

Arsene Wenger cried foul after the match:

I believe they put very good pressure on us when we got the ball to stop our flow but when we got out of the pressure they stopped us every time with a foul.

Just to make a foul without being punished by the referee is a huge advantage.

He did add that Everton deserved their point…

Not a disaster but a disappointment that we missed the chance to go 7 points clear of the chasing pack…..

The FA Cup draw took place later in the day, one which saw us land a home tie against Tottenham…… Nice!

That’s it for another day, next up is Napoli….
