Twenty three years ago last Thursday, our new blond in the camp, Alexander Dimitri Song Billong was born in Douala, Cameroon. He is the nephew of Rigobert Song who was to be a very influential figure in his life. He was the one who steered Alex towards football and gave him support during his early days.

He joined us aged 18yrs in 2005, Wenger having beaten Manchester United, Juventus, Lyon and Inter Milan to secure his signing.

Alex Song, which is a lot easier to spell, has had a tough time since signing for us, not within the club but from some who have watched him progress over the years. Not by me though I hasten to add πŸ™‚

But progress he has though and at a rate of knots in my opinion.Β It’s quite apparent that both he and Cesc are quite a ‘dynamic duo’ in the centre of our midfield and we need these two to stay fit and healthy for the whole season ahead. Wenger needs to pick the right games to rest them and make sure he does rest them. I know that’s an obvious statement but seeing Cesc back to his old self and Song so happy playing and playing so well, they are key to us.
If the team is going to win something then all our little units within the side have to work together and this one is working well, it has been for a while now.

Not only has Alex Song been strutting his stuff in the middle of the park, we saw him score his first goal this season against Bolton and what a goal it was too, a wonderful first touch followed by a nifty little jink over the goal keeper, pure class.

So what’s behind his sudden found ability to ‘score’??

Here he is celebrating in style, blonde locks and all…..

Well, I have done a lot of research and found out the answer…. It’s all in the hair cut and colour πŸ™‚

Whilst watching A Concert for the Heroes on Sunday it suddenly came to me. One of the first performers on stage was Welsh Singer/Legend Sir Tom Jones – born just over seventy years ago he can still strut his stuff and always remains a hit with the ladies, in fact he probably still ‘scores’ for fun too πŸ˜‰

Here he is, still looking good at 70yrs

So there you have it,Β  Uncle Rigobert made have had a massive influence on Alex Song’s early life but it sure seems Tom Jones is having a big effect on his life today….

Have a great day all, tomorrow will be back to being serious, I promise πŸ™‚
