Something is happening at Arsenal / Alexandre Pato on his way as Milan want Arshavin?

It didn’t seem that long ago that everything appeared to be wrong with our club, and yes, I wrote many a post moaning about it….

We’d move to The Emirates, players started to be sold and seldom were they replaced, even if they were replaced, too often they appeared to be very poor substitutes.

We lost players that had been part of the winning ways, the Invincibles, the all that was great for our club – we’d stopped winning trophies, our best efforts were in the Champions League final and of course the more recent Carling Cup final but we left both as runners-up.

Henry led us to the CL final, Fabregas to the CC final – but neither captain saw us over the line.

That’s all long gone now, and thank goodness for that I say….

To go back to what I said earlier – something was wrong and has been for a while but I have been watching this current squad and something has changed, and changed drastically, dramatically and so so so much for the better.

So why??

Is it Stan Kroenke?

Is it Arsene Wenger?

Is it the summer signings?

Or…

Could it just be the introduction of the Robin van Persie and Thomas Vermaelen show??

Those two together have to be doing something since their appointments of captain and vice captain.

The team has changed, the body language is nothing like it used to be and even Theo is dancing down the wings, breezing by defenders like they don’t exist – and his final ball is reaching our players….

What next eh? 😉

Seriously, we look nearly as united as we used to be under big Tony Adams, the team is happy and when I say team I mean everyone – even Gunnersaurus looks pretty pleased these days…

The way the side gathered around Gervinho when he scored his goal – finally finding the net after a few easy chances had gone by in recent weeks, the way Robin threw Theo over his shoulders and made it very clear what he thought of his provider. The way Arteta was bombarded by all when he scored the opener, it’s all a sight to behold and long may it last…

Let’s not forget either; Thomas Vermaelen’s goal was celebrated as if he’d just scored the winner against the Yids!

Something has happened guys and gals and it’s good to see…..

Pre-season and in our first few fixtures, we looked in a mess, now we look like a team, a group of players who are prepared to give everything for each other, for the team and the club. Just look back to last Tuesday in the Carling Cup, every player who stepped in for their counter parts gave their all didn’t they?

Ok, Chamakh and Park didn’t have great games but sometimes old stones won’t make diamonds, no matter how much you polish them….

I guess my point is, from watching this squad over the last few seasons, they have changed, we are no longer about one player, our manager is no longer talking about that same one player.

Players like Theo who used to struggle in so many games has finally stepped up, almost like his chains have been set free and he’s become one of the first names on the manager’s team sheet.

Then we have Chesney – the guy who sang with the away fans at Wigan, what a guy eh?

Then after the game, all the players joined him and threw their shirts into the travelling fans, something which probably gave Kroenke palpitations thinking how much it would cost to replace them. 😉

Whatever is happening, I have a feeling Robin van Persie and his merry men are enjoying it, and if truth be told, I think we all are too…..

Come on Robin, sign on soon! We need you and not just for your goals…..

Finally, we have been drawn against Leeds in the FA Cup this season, it’s at The Emirates and will be played on the weekend of the 7/8th January 2012. We all know that this is a repeat of last year and we drew with them 1-1 at home before knocking them out 3-1 at Elland Road. That replay took its toll on our squad so I hope this season we start the game with a strong side and get the game done and dusted. No replays !!

Oh, and according to the most crazy of gossip mongers, we really are in for Alexandre Pato, the gossips suggest that terms have been agreed and they even want Arshavin included…..

Happy Days then…..

Have a good one all, tomorrow the kids are out of town 😉

Simple-the players who are there now want to play for Arsenal and for them its their ultimate club, unlike a few who left for lack of desire, sudden home sickness etc. This is a team of players who play for AFC and till it is there, we are going to be just fine.

Pato could happen rico. He barely starts a game for them and wenger is an admirer. He ll wanna resurrect his flagging career and who else brings out the best in washed up super stars. He did it with KANU henry and the list continues. Besides this has wenger written all over it. I believe it. How old is he again?

Morning Rico, nice post. Agree that team spirit seems more obvious these years, for once I actually believe Wenger when he says it! Pato would be awesome….but surely he would be too expensive?

Hi all

To me it is not only RvP and Verminator that lead but increasingly I see the s argent’s stripes on Arteta’s sleeves. They way he encourages players and barks at them if they get sloppy and that is a huge factor in our resurrection. Therefore I believe it’s the summer signings that have changed things the most, the experience of Arteta Santos Mert and Benny has helped us so much. I can not but wonder why the fuck he did not do this sooner, buying young for the future is all well and good but don’t forget abut the present!

Morning all,
Although things are looking far better than at the start of the season, i would just like to point out that we haven’t played anyone of great consequence yet, Chelsea was a shadow of their former selves and that game could have gone either way. I am not contradicting your post Rico, as i agree with you that the togetherness is way better than it was, belief is back and our style of play has started to gel the players. Winning has a knock on effect, where by a two goal lead used to be treated with trepidation, is now being used as the foundation for a better score. Our holding of the ball and passing has started to look Barcelona style, triangles of players moveing in groups, closeing down attacks winning back the ball and building slower until a chance presents itself. What we were lacking was the final pass and the finnishing, luckily we have had Robin to scramble the goals, his ratio of chances to goals has far exceeded the other forward players, he has shown calmness in front of goal where others confidence has been lacking. This weekend has been a major step forward for their confidence, and this situation will only get better as more of them score, hopefully this will alleviate the pressure on Van Persie and he will revert back as just one of the team and not the b and end of. He has turned out a very good captain, generating comradery and a great motivator. I in the past have said that i would like the captain in a defensive position but wenger has seen fit to give the vice captains poition to Vermaelen and a great move that has been, a captain up front and a captain at the back, this has built a far better understanding all round the team. We are now ready to take back our top four position and challenge confidently for the title. And as usual rico great motivational Post.

Morning all,
Nice cheery post today rico and like you say it makes a change, i didn’t always agree with a lot of the regulars on here (and they know who they are) that said all you do is whinge and moan all the time !

Its like you say, it looks like the chains have been undone, the shackles have come off and we are finally showing the rest of the league what we are all about, the team spirit is there for everyone to see.

If only all the players that were linked with Arsenal actually arrived we would have a team equal to that of Man City but probably twice as good, however all we can do is dream of who might or might not arrive in the January transfer window, but from Wenger has said he’s not intending to purchase anyone especially strikers to cover the missing Gervinho and Chamakh who depart for the Africa Cup in January. So basically it’s just down to RvP and Walcott to try to win the games with help from Arteta etc.

Supporters have taken the loss in the carling cup a lot better than i have i must admit, giving a good account of ourselves in that game seems to be acceptable, but a loss is still a loss and City march on. Its my beleif that we fight for everything and don’t ease off, a nothing game in the champions league to me is like sending messages to everyone in the competition, a very strong team and we lose i can take that but a loss with a weakend team shows the others that we can be beat that i don’t like. Showing respect for the competition is fielding your strongest team and winning in style we have the players to do that. If we had shown that commitment in the Carling cup we would have been in the semis, thats what respect for a competition is all about. My opinion.

devilgunner

Morning gladiators.

Rico….I know that its easy to be pessimistic regarding transfers. We have been through too much every transfer window.

However I believe the Pato news slightly more than being pessimistic. Goonster is right regarding flagging players…..we get them and make them world stars better than they were.

The togetherness is obvious in the team. The icing on the cake would be if an argument occurs and suddenly everyone is at it. Then we will see if they are all a team who fights for each other. Like the game against Lazio in 1970. Or the MAnchester game where we were docked 2 points in 1991.

devilgunner

I agree Steve. But this is game where whatever happens the most important thing is not to suffer injuries. Therefore I think its of a greater importance that we put a different team than we are used to. And mind you if we put out the following team we would be still respecting the competition……

Fabianski…Poland number 2 and has played in the Champ. lge
Djourou…..Swiss international who is getting back to his best
Yennaris….an up coming youngster who needs game time
Miguel…….Has played champ lge already
Squillaci….A french international and has played champ lge
Chamack..has played in champ lge and ANC
Park………Captain of North Korea and has played Eur. football
Arshavin…Capt of the russian team. played at the highest level
Oxo……….is an under21 international and touted for the future.
Rosicky….Captain of Czech rep and played at the highest level
Frimpong.Has managed to put De Yong and hargo in his pocket
Coquelin..French under 21 international. Like Frimps

The he above 12 can all play in the Champions league and do not devalue the competion.

One might say that with the above we might loose the game. Yes but we might loose it also with the team which played against Wigan no?????

Micko, I would gladly play that team tomorrow.

1st it rests the other 11
2nd it gives valuable game time to the rest
3rd I would not like to risk players
4th it proves we have 22 capable players not just 1st 11
5th the team will grow more
6th it will show AW where we need to shore up and who is up to standard or not

Great Stuff and a really positive article. I read a post regarding the medical center and gym and the guy being interviewed commented that RVP and rosicky have to be told to leave the gym as they have a tendency to overwork. This is what youngsters need- an example.

Frimpong and Jack’s love for the club also sets an example for everyone including the older guys.

Lets not be down on cesc he was for me the greatest gunner ever. He was not however a great leader or a fighter and he would have been much better off playing alongside a Rambo or Arteta than a Nasri who he had to work to cover.

We are the greatest team the world has ever seen……ahhh chezzer is gonna be a legend! Still have goosebumps whenever I watch the footage. Been watching it all weekend. What a player. Bring on shitty. Hey who thinks shitty is running scared. Mancini ll definitely park the bus, truck and a huge ocean liner in front of his defense. He ll try to pry us out and hit us with counter attacking salvos…..but he ll fail cause this arsenal team shoots from distance and *whispering* we ve got gervinho! “…………..”we are the greatest team the world has ever seen”

devilgunner
devilgunner

I know that if the chavs and shitty do not go through they will not have champions lge football to contend with, however the economic and pyschological difficulties they will face will be far even bigger.

And it will give the toilet rolls something different to write about.

You know that everytime they write something nice about us is a powerful lemon pill for them to swallow and even though they do not dare to admit it the very thought of AFC passing through and their favourite three stoogies faililng will have them pissing between their legs.

Bryon please my man don’t open up a can of worms. Cesc is gone..we ve moved on and better off without him. we are no more playing the predictable tippy tappY crap him and nasri thrives in. I ll take this current arsenal team over the ones with fab in it. We won at the bridge didn’t we? What was the score? A team led by cesc would have capitulated by the second half. Van persie a better captain than fab. End of.

Goonster I agree the fab argument is a quick way to ruin a post so after this I will leave it.

I agree that RVP is a far better captain than cesc and my point was that the change has been great but I would have loved to see cesc play with Rambo and Arteta instead of Nasri as they are combative and he wasn’t and I think they would have made him look even better.

I think this cohesiveness together with the quality of Cesc would have won titles but instead we relied solely on him in our game plan and it didnt work

Morning Devil, had to pop out, i understand the theory behind resting players but are they tired we are not halfway through the season yet, and i don’t think Robin has had a hard time of it, Rambo got kicked from pillar to post the weekend but he got up and brushed himself down and carried on, he had more knocks in that game than Robins had all season,Plus he’s had a broken leg, Robins History is hopfully behind him now, he’s no youngster. We should get the benefit from him while he can still run, keep telling a player his tired and he’ll start believing it ,at a hundred odd grand a week i’de run with crutches and so should he, molycoddling him wont help him. Another good signing will see less and less of robin, this season will be robins best by miles and a new gun will be in place next season, While there playing well milk it thats what i say cause once its over its over.

devilgunner
devilgunner

Oui Steve. maybe this season will see another gun with RVP. However I do think that though at the moment we should milk Robin we should also play the others. So if not to rest him at least to give the others valuable game time.

If Shitty were not bankrolled by the oil sheiks anyone from 7th place upwards could win this years league title. UInlike Spain where I feel its already sewn up by Jose with Cesc going through a sense of deja vu for say the 8th season in a row???

Steve….I do not think that Oxo will get the same treatment as Lansbury. The Ox is on a different plane to Lansbury who not even now will get a run in the team. He is simply not up to the level of the six we have in midfield. Even the Ox is already of higher standard. I like Henry dont get me wrong….in the same manner I like Muamba and LArsson. But the current midfield incumbents are even superior TEAM PLAYERS than the ones who left us in the summer. Cesc and Na$ti were superb technical players but they were not team players. Heaven help us if Cesc ever returns. Even as a manager. Let him stay there the slimy toad.

I see that goalkeeper James Shea has been recalled from Dagenham & Redbridge.
Daggers manager John Still said Arsenal came to that decision because of Shea’s lack of games, only 4 to date!
Mind you, i wonder if the possible sale of Almunia and Fabianski in January could also have had an influence.
Wenger and his coaches can have a close look at Shea in training before deciding if we need another goalie should Fab & MA actually leave.
Youth goalkeepers Martinez and Charles~Cook are both very promising but both are also very young.

Morning Lee.

Yeah, Fulham 1~0 Liverpool.
Liverpool’s Spearing sent off. 🙂
And so the media darlings Liverpool slide to another defeat.
King Kenny in crisis? Dalglish the next to be sacked?
Hansen & Lawrensen will be on his case on MotD?
Yeah, in yer dreams.
Meanwhile the good ship Arsenal sail serenely past the sinking dippers.
Onwards & Upwards.
