Morning all,

Having watched on as the results from the FA Cup came in yesterday, it made me realise that we’d actually earned a good result against Brighton.

Leeds showed Tottenham the way home, Oldham did the same to Liverpool and but for a very late goal from Torres, Chelsea would have been dumped out of the FA Cup too.

None of those Premier League sides fielded a vastly inexperienced side either so no real excuses for either.

I mention that as I suspect some will suggest we only won because we had to call on Wilshere and Walcott. Well so what, that’s called rotation and bringing players on from the bench if they are needed to get a victory. Wenger got it right didn’t he?

Let’s not forget, we fielded a side which had five changes to the one which defeated West Ham 5-1! See, we can be some sides at The Emirates, shame they always seem to be the one’s lurking around the bottom of the PL….

Anyway, Theo Walcott, who scored then and on Saturday, thinks that we have finally started to gel as a team:

I am very confident in the team, this team just needs to realise how good we actually are and not read into too many bad thoughts.

We have a very good team, very young and great on the eye at times.

We can be cold at times as well, but we are starting to learn and we are starting to get back to our best.

Can anyone really argue that when our attacking side to our game is on fire, we are pretty darn good?

That’s not really our major problem, other than we don’t see enough of it of course! The rear guard is where it all goes wrong for us, and we’ve been saying that now for many seasons?

Time after time, game after game, we have all said the same about our performances and yet again on Saturday we witnessed ghastly defending and goal keeping frailties.

Rid those issues from our game and we’d be so so much better but how?

Is it a case of simply changing our tactics at the back?

I’d like to think that would help, after all, how can a big German International who goes by the name of Per Mertesacker suddenly become very very average?Β The same question can be asked of Vermaelen, Koscielny and Sagna.

It has to be that players are either being asked to do something which isn’t natural to their game or the defenders we have really aren’t as good as many think.

Otherwise, they’d be gelling by now, in fact they’d be more tight at the back than Wenger is during a transfer window…

And that’s saying something…..

My own view is that it’s a bit of both, none of our defenders are world-class, none are able to read the game and ‘be there’ to intercept the oppositions attack. And most of all, none of them are prepared to lay their body on the line to stop us from conceding a goal.

And of course, we still don’t have a midfielder who will sit and protect the defence at all costs.

Watching Lee Peltier for Leeds in the last few minutes of their match yesterday said it all for me, in fact all of their defenders played their part but he is the kind of player, with the kind of attitude andΒ commitmentΒ we lack. He’s the kind of player we need….

There are players out there who could make a difference to our squad, and not all of them are that far away Arsene!!

Four days left to make our squad stronger!!

Have a good day all!
