Should Wenger have signed him, or would he have made little difference?

So the truth is out about our two Polish goalkeepers – both of them came to us having been shown the way by Krzysztof Dowhań. Arsene Wenger has nothing but praise for the man who has now seen three of his student cross the shore to ply their trade in Britain.
Of course we know that Fabianski and Szczesny are playing at the best club in England but Dowhań is also responsible for Celtics one time-keeper Artur Boruc who is still Poland’s number one as far as I know. However, how long that remains is anyone’s guess.

Despite Wenger singing the praises for Dowhan louder than Susan Boyle can belt out her latest single, he has never tried to recruit him.

We have the two Polish keepers, would they and our other goal keepers benefit from having him at the club rather than Gerry Peyton? After all, Peyton has been working with Almunia for six years, has he really improved during that time?

Wenger obviously doesn’t think so, he says:

No we didn’t try to sign Dowhań, we watched Fabianski, I don’t know who brought us Wojciech but when he arrived he was tall and young so he did not always master everything well. But Dowhań at Legia has produced some fantastic goalkeepers. In Poland, they produce some fantastic goalkeepers.

On Szczesny he says:

I have followed him since he has arrived here. In the youth team people spoke about him that he could save us games. But he has come through those difficult times and has done well here.

What does Wenger mean, ‘I don’t know who bought us Wojciech?? Did he not buy him, if not, then who did?

We have all seen Fabianski improve a little but now we have finally got to see our youngest Pole perform in the first team, I have a sneaky feeling it will be the twenty year old who finally stakes his place for his club and country for a long time.

That ‘long time’ though could be dictated by his own body….

Wojciech Szczesny suffered a setback through a serious injury a couple of years ago. He broke both wrists whilst lifting weights in the club gym, the bar fell on his arms and he broke both wrists. Six months later, a little bit of metal work in place and he was back training with scars in place!

Our young Pole knows what he wants, many ‘ordinary’ people wouldn’t come back from a double wrist break, let alone a goal keeper so that tells us all we finally have a future number who is the proud owner of:

Attitude, winning mentality, determination and commitment – without any of those we would not be watching him play now.

So, to whoever did buy him, well done you!!

Finally, not that it’s really news, the club have confirmed that the already injured, young Japanese forward Ryo Miyaichi, will be joining the Club in January 2011. Wow, bet you didn’t see that one coming, shame it wasn’t David Villa, he was on fire again yesterday!!

Have a good day all, only seven days to go until we face Chelsea….

Morning Rico how is the going manage to watch Barca play Espanyol and as you know they are a great team but we have one player who holds the key to beating then Theo their defence is their weakness and they dive alot but they are beatable

  2. kelsey says:

Just watched The Sunday Supplement, and the well informed Patrick Barclay just said what I and others have been saying recently.

    Wenger is his own enemy.

  3. rico says:

Morning Erick, i saw the barca goals, if we attack them down the right, we can score plenty, Puyol looked a bit slow for the oppos goal 😉

  4. kelsey says:

According to Wenger “we have 3 world class keepers and Almunia is going nowhere”
I remember the young Manninger who stepped up for our last 11 games in our double season in 1998 and performed heroically, when Seaman got injured.
Seaman was already passed his best and manninger was rejected and slowly went out of favour and down hill.

keepers are not one of Wenger’s strong ppoints.

Erick, do you really see Vela ever getting a regular place in our first team ?

  5. rico says:

We have nothing to lose Erick so that might just be the way, play them at their own game.. As much as AA can destroy a side when he feels like it, hes not so fast…

  6. rico says:

kelsey, i don’t believe that wenger believes that, is possibly him being his usual soft self… i think he will go next month..

  7. rico says:

No doubt you have all seen the story about the Qatar group reported to be ready with a 1.5 billion offer for the mancs, well if my reckoning is right, the head of this group is Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani…

The same man who was recently presented with an Arsenal shirt when he visited the Royal Family. He has confessed to being an Arsenal fan….

    Strange one that….

  8. Erick says:

Kesley this is no ordinary game but Aw seems to think otherwise re Vela but he has never gotten his chance and he deserves it before Aw passes his judgement

  9. kelsey says:

rico, it’s all about the middle east area getting a foot in the western world. They are not interested in making money out of football, just the prestige as long as the gas and oil keeps flowing.

Even fergie has said today Football has gone mad.

  10. rico says:

I’d hate to see Vela go without him having had a good chance to prove he is what we all think he could be…

Erick, re the Barca match, what really worries me is not having Sagna available….

Can Eboue really stop David Villa??

  11. rico says:

Sad state of affairs then kelsey, but if he wants to buy a club, why not ours? It’s cheaper and we are a much better prospect surely, once Fergie goes, who really can take the mancs further?

  12. kelsey says:

Erick if it was a one off game you may well be right, but personally I don’t rate vela as good enough, amongst others in a team looking to win trophies. That’s just my opinion
Vela has only ever started less than a handful of PL games and we have had him on the books for 4 or 5 years. He learnt nothing at lowly Osasuna, yet when he plays for mexico he seems a different player.
We have plenty of “impact subs” haven’t we ?

  13. Erick says:

Rico Eboue will have to step up but the Barca team are unstopable unless we work on our defence we might just get punished severly

  14. Steve Palmer says:

I see Scot Parker played well again yesterday talk of him leaving West ham, could be a good buy,if he gets in early but as the norm he will probably be playing against us

  15. rico says:

Hi Steve, you only have to think how much parker would cost to realise we have no chance of wenger thinking about buying him….

  16. kelsey says:

    Steve,

I am a great advocate of having Parker in our side.for sure he will be snapped up.he would be our new flamini.

  17. kelsey says:

rico, you are ight and I would hate for Arsenal to be bought out but the inevitable will happen only if the principle share holders get a good return. The glaziers are being offered double their investment or debt whichever way you look at it.

  18. Erick says:

Scot parker is Jack wilshere one year from now I would rather wait for Jack where we need a player is in defence and a torres, drogba or Villa kind of striker Chamaka is good player and it stops there

  19. rico says:

I tend to agree with Erick, Jack will be better than Parker, he’s not that far off now…

And, my own thought is that before we go spending money on creative midfielders we should be looking to get another centre half and a defensive midfielder…

i’m not so bothered about the keeper situation anymore, chesney and fabianski can battle it out and i know who will win 😉

  20. Steve says:

As we have spent the last five years chasing commercial achievement rather than sporting success, it is hard not to conclude that the club is being ripened for the personel gain of certain members of the board. Perhaps all these rich arabs are being put off by the prospect of meeting Mr Hill-Wood.

  21. rico says:

I’m sure he would Steve, but i just can’t see wenger spending out for him… he’ll be over priced due to him being english….

  22. rico says:

Steve, if Cesc goes, i hope wenger spends the money on a player far better than Parker.. He looks great for his club but why isn’t he playing for his country?

Denilson would look good in that West Ham side 😉 😉

  23. Steve Palmer says:

People always get sucked into where a player plays and what his position is, as Walcott is a winger, but i think he would do better up front the same can be said of any player but he plays where the manager wants him Parker is getting older he has a vast amount of Knowledge and some fine skills he would fit anywhere and his a good pro

  24. rico says:

Don’t get me wrong steve, he’d be a great addition, i just can’t see wenger going for him, not unless denilson or even diaby leave…

  25. Steve Palmer says:

Maybe so Rico but Ronaldo was Portugese and he went for 80mill after a couple of seasons here, but he was a good buy, Parker gives a lot and his worth could and should be worth it

  26. rico says:

Just think, if wenger had offered a proper price, ronaldo would have been ours, we would have made that money on his sale… 🙂

Trouble is, at 30 years old, wenger wouldn’t spend big money would he? one to watch though….

  27. Steve says:

I have always thought that Parker came out of the same mold as our Tony Adams. Lots of attributes but above all a natural leader of men. I am not sure that Wenger has room for such a character in ‘his’ dressing room.

  28. rico says:

You hit the nail on the head there, despite the fact our club needs a big leader, wenger sees that as being himself and only himself….

    big error..

  29. kelsey says:

Of course the tabloids will print anything, especially today with next to no footie in the PL this weekend, but this being the most open title race in many a year,i expect quite a lot of ransfer dealings in the January window.
Spurs and city will definitely buy maybe chelsea but will we ?

This is nothing to do with support, but when Wenger says he won’t be in the market,he obviously is holding his cards to close to his chest, but i ask you this, how long can this youth experiment continue without complementing it with proven players.
A good prospect in nordvelt is leaving, and we have to wonder kids from brazil and japan as openers, yet do they have work permits.
like it or not we are in a fight with spurs and city to retain a top 4 position let alone win the league.
cesc and RVP are obviously still not fit, and we all know cesc will be gone sooner or later.vermaelen might be back by the end of january, but will need at least 6 games to get back to full fitness.
Therefore those that we have fit and able need to take a good hard look at themselves and give 100% as they are playing for The Arsenal.
if their performance on the pitch was as good as the countless interviews they give, bigging themselves up, we would be top of the league.
We are third highest payers in the league and wenger needs to replace stubborness with being ruthless instead of his usual quotes such as being mentally strong, because we aren’t. rant over.

  30. Steve Palmer says:

Look lets be honest with ourselves we are known throughout the world as one of the the top teams that is because our record in the Champions league is as good as any ones, perhaps not for winning it but making into it but when it comes down to players that we buy we are laughed at cant spend wont spend you know and i know that if he had brought three or four players of quality we would be at least nine points clear at the top of the league, we are a two bit side and being held back by this Management we should never go one season without silverware but stupid buying has put us in this position, selling Adebayor for 25mill was a great deal but most of that money was not ploughed back into the side we have to understand that this is business but we are a cheap club that charges big prices and gives little.

  31. Red Arse says:

    Afternoon all,

Kelsey, Arsene was grilled in the pre-match interview about saying he would not buy in the Jan tfr window.

He backtracked and said if the team needed strengthening, and a player was available, he would “do it”.

It was clearly inferred that the Board and not the manager control the purse strings. No surprise there.

  32. kelsey says:

    Hi RA,

I saw the interview.grilled was a good word.
if the BoD have full confidence in Wenger they would bow to his requests. But i don’t believe him.he really thinks the squad doesn’t need strengthening, and as usual we will here that we were after this player or another but we didn’t get them.
He maybe right not to over value a player but then on the other hand he takes just a big a risk if he buys “cheap”.

  33. Steve Palmer says:

All i know is, if we keep playing as we have been, we will be watching Man city and Spuds in the CL and we will be a few mill down, but we wont be skint

  34. agirlagunner says:

Boo! Rico copy kelsey on 3:52. 🙂 Where are you?

Even a blind man would see there are a few positions that need strengthening. Why can’t AW?

  35. agirlagunner says:

Denilson linked to Wolfsburg. 🙂 I don’t rate him. I don’t hate him. But don’t feel too bad abot the possibility of a departure. 🙂

  36. Steve Palmer says:

Chelsea are hopeing to spend 70mill on Tevez and Dzeko, Abramovich must have had a bad year,Wenger could buy a complete team with that and still have a bit in the kitty
