Shocks all round as signing confirmed! Everton up tonight and that's the last time….

Yep, the transfer window is now shut, no last-minute surprises for Arsenal fans and that’s the last time I include any rumours about us buying players, well, that is until the summer of course πŸ˜‰

While Chelsea were splashing the cash, Liverpool were following suit. Arsenal, well they just confirmed the signing of Ryo Miyaichi on a ‘long-term’ deal. We won’t see him play though as he is just one of many who is now out on loan, he’s gone to Feyenoord for the rest of the season.

No surprise really was it?

Saying that, I’m glad we haven’t spent Β£35 Million on a player who has played just half a season in the Premier League and all because he’s English.

We have what we have in the squad and come the end of the season we will all see if Wenger was right to believe in them, I personally feel he has once again buried his head in the sand when it comes to our central defenders.

Come out Arsene, we have a game tonight!

One good thing though and that’s Arsene Wenger is thinking of recalling Henri Lansbury. Many fans would prefer to see Lansbury getting his chance ahead of Denilson, I know I would but I know other fans will come on and say Lansbury is not a defensive midfielder. Well my answer to that is nor is Denilson.

On to tonight, Denilson is injured so no fear of seeing him lining up against Everton!

No new injuries have been reported other than Samir Nasri of course who is expected to be out for three weeks. Sagna should be ready to challenge replace Eboue at right back and with Squillaci suspended the reliable pairing of Djourou and Koscielny should return, as should Clichy in place of Gibbs. Our midfield/forward unit should be the same as our last premier league game minus Samir of course and I hope Arshavin fills that gap despite playing 90 minutes on Sunday. He hasn’t played too much recently so his body should have recovered and he’s due a big game. Lets hope tonight is the night he really finds his true form.

It’s not going to be easy tonight, no game against Everton ever is but it’s fifteen years since they beat us on our home ground and that was at Highbury. We have played out 194 matches and we just pip the winning stats 95 to 58. We are the only side who has yet to concede a goal in 2011 – that’s some achievement when you look at who we have been up against.

Everton on their day are a very good footballing side and I don’t know how they sit where they do in the league. They are on a good run, having lost just one of their last eight league games. Evertons problem has been too many draws, twelve already this season.

It’s going to be another toughy but we just need to carry on doing what we have been in the league. Stay patient and take our chances when they come and that means all of them and defend well of course. πŸ™‚

That’s about it for today. Like I said, we have who we have and tonight I hope they go one step further forward to showing the world of football just why Arsene Wenger trusts in this ‘squad’…

Have a good day all….

Morning guys.

Utter madness. Β£50 million for an injury prone player and Β£35 million for a player who has completed just have a season. Utter madness. Caroll will be found out in his second season like all players are and it will be interesting to see how he copes.

Truly great players find a way to do their thing no matter what, the average players don’t and fall after their tricks are discovered.

As for tonight, nothing less than a win will do but for the love of God, we need a performance and not have to rely on a last minute dodgy penalty to getthe result.

Please drop Nik B Arsene’.

Red Arse, I dont get you at all:”… Lansbury hope. I just don’t see him making it at Arsenal…” We have accommodated players like Denilson, Diaby and Bendtner and a host of others who aren’t even championship materials, so why not Landbury? He has that English ‘fire’, the drive to get the job done even if he lacks the silky skills of a Jack or Nasri. We need fighters, not layabouts, and I think his experience in the championship has put that fighting spirit in him which will place him in good position in the team. If Jack, touted as the heir to Fabregas can play in the deep midfield role, why not Henri? Who would you rather pair in front of the defence if Song is out? A Diaby,Denilson or Landsbury? And apart from playing in that deep position, I believe being a hard and tireless worker, he can also replace Song in the B2B role which is one role Denilson cant play in, Diaby has not played well and Frimpong who showed signs of being able to play there is still out injured.

If you lack the strength of a Song, surely you can make do with the fighting spirit of a Jack to get the job done as the defensive shield. Denilson continues to make childish errors in that role and I believe when Landsbury and Frimpong return next season, it will be game-over for both Denilson; Wenger should cash in on him.

Boo! rico, your photos do make me laugh. πŸ˜‰ Our chances of beating Everton improve if Cahill is not in their line-up. Here’s hoping…

From what I have seen of Lansbury, he looks a pretty decent prospect. Makes good passes and unlike Denilson, will try and pass forward.

Denilson needs to know he is not a set in stone player, he needs to know that if he continues to have these rubbish games, he will lose his place.

We have 19(!!!) players in loan. Liverpool change Torres for Suarez and Carroll. That’s completely diffrente change Suarez for Carroll. They are going to replacie their way of playing. Hi Steve,

I watched Lansbury in the youth teams for a number of years. He has always had superb skill and creative ability.

He was somewhat older than Jack but I (subjectively) put his skill, at the same age, as on a par with Jack’s.

The only serious deficiency he had was a lack of pace. In the Premier League pace is essential and I think that is why he has not been given many chances by AW.

As I said to Rico, time will tell, and I hope I am wrong in saying I don’t think he will make it.

It’s an opinion, based on watching the guy (and other youth players) on freezing cold days with what seemed about 20 other fans. OK?

Will
Will

Red, could he play the anchor role? Pace is not nearly so needed sat in front of the defence.

Like the picture..seems to sum up the whole management structure from Boardroom down.

FIRST QUESTION WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ” NOW WE HAVE THE STADIUM WE CAN COMPETE WITH THE MAN U’s AND THE LIVERPOOLS”?

We havnt even competed with the Spuds, Villa & Newcastles in the market let alone the above and Chelski /Manshitty.

As for the Lansbury debate…he has the talent and fire we need but he is not French or Spanish. If he was he would been in the team at 17/18 years of age, no problem, as would JET.

Bartley, I get the horrible feeling that AW thinks he is not up to it because despite the disgusting lack of CB cover for 3 seasons, and the buying of Squillacci, this lad cannot even get a CC game?

At the risk of becoming know as a boring critic, I would like to repeat my mantra from 2005 in which I wrote ‘ This present AFC squad could become great if and only if..Arsene admits that he has a massive blind spot in his coaching make up ie; he cannot build a defence either from buys or youngsters. He has failed with every buy so far since Tony and Bouldy left’. Of course this was before the Vermy signing. Sadly the hole in AW’s ability is as wide now…

I am pretty sure that at the start of November most AFC fans would have wanted to see JET & Lansbury as regulars on our bench and not Denilson & Diaby. BUT AW only sees his foreign imports as special sometimes.

Finally, I think we will still do well in our own little league ,The CC, The FA cup, and the battle for fourth…that will keep the board happy!

Red Arse
Red Arse

Will,

I personally think Henri could play an important role for us, perhaps in that anchor role. I thought he was the real deal as a kid. But the signals from AW aren’t good.

Two others I thought were a cut above in the youth teams were Randall and Barazite. Both 6 footers with great skill, but Barazite has been released and poor old Randall seems to have been out on loan forever.

I am also really disappointed by the treatment of JET. I loved watching him play. He is huge and full of talent but he is not getting the chances.

For the record I cannot stand Denilson, as Rico knows from when we were on a different blogsite, but he gets chance after chance and I simply have never understood that.

Oddly enough, Denilson is not just lacking in skill but he also lacks pace, so maybe there is hope for Lansbury and Randall after all. But I have my doubts AW agrees.

I am mystified regarding JET. Wenger constantly tells us how great he is going to be yet never gives him a chance, rather sticking with Nik B who needs 8 shots to get one on target.

We are so close to being dominant but unless Wenger has someone in his ear reminding him of the club’s world standing, we will not progress.

Morning all,
No suprises then, we will again post a generous profit at the end of the season, but posibly with a cup or two, yes we could have bought players, but if were honest with ourselves, we are not desperate for them.
Vermaelen will be back in the next few weeks JD has proved he can fit in well, Kosey has come on leaps and bounds, Frimpong to come back Ramsey nearing match fitness and about to bounce back in. What with others also feeding back in, my concern was up front, with shooting with power and taking the many chances we make, but you all keep saying AA’s form is allmost there, and RVP is now fireing on all cylinders, you all love Czezs. Wilshere Cesc Nasri Song Walcott all quality so why the long faces. Wenger has built an absolutly great squad, those players i have mentioned gelled together right, will beat Barcelona, if they can beat the so called best in the world we can win everything, i’m happy the board are happy and Arsens happy.

Morning rico, still smiling, never ever thought Wenger would buy with our league position,we have a great team, its how he presents it that causes me concern, but he keeps getting the results, who am i to doubt him, i forgot to mention we have Sagna who is one of the best Clicky brilliant on his day with Gibbo not a bad back up, i doubt Denilsons role but others love him, we have Chamakh as back up, and still havnt tried Theo down the middle yet. I still like Vela we have Lansbury some like him, we have JET who some rave over. Miakhi or what ever his name is, get his work permit and his in for next season. the future is looking very Rosey, who needs to spend.

Red Arse
Red Arse

Rico,

You are right about AW’s comments on Henri but giving him one sub appearance in a CC match does not seem to back his words with actions.

When you write down the list of 1st team mid-fielders we have, which we did some weeks ago, and then add Henri, PingPong, Aaron JET, Coquelin and Randall we are stuffed with mid-fielders, so I think a “pruning ” is acoming.

Where’s Wath when you need him? πŸ™‚

Will, given a choice between JET and Bendy it would be JET for me. You might be surprised with the number of others who would disagree.

Still that’s football and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and who knows who will be proved right? πŸ™‚

There was one result on Sunday really cheered me up, and that was Real and Moaniho losing! He always takes credit when his teams win but always gives them a rollicking when they lose. Pillock!

Bonjour Gunners,

Despite what is being commented today, I will go far as to say that I’m quite happy with Arsene’s decisions including NOT splashing out to buy any fancy names in attack which I know some ppl have been shouting for & letting out all promising youngsters on loan where they’d be getting much needed playtime so that they can be gauged as future Arsenal material or not.

EXCEPT the one major decision of not bringing in a CH for cover for the rest of this makeorbreak season for his team. I can’t believe he’s trying to shoot himself in the foot again. Bringing in someone on loan would have made sense & I for once can’t believe when he says that he can’t find one that would meet his requirements.

Kudos to Rico on the “I personally feel he has once again buried his head in the sand” comment & pic.. nicely done! Very lady-like of U for having resisted saying “head in @$$” instead which is what I think it deserved (unless he knows something about TV’s condition that we all don’t)

I never believed that, not even for once in the last decade. And especially now that he has fast-tracked exceptional English talent into the first team vis-a-vis Lil’Jack, Gibbsey, Ramsey (if I can be excused for calling a Welshman that)

And if U r one of those clans that argue that we should be going after 35Mill players whose only talent are that they are your countrymen, then please kindly refrain coz that would be the end of any meaningful discussion

cahill is the biggest question for me right now. i hope he does not play, i think everton have missed him while he was away playing for his national side.

hi wath and agag…no doubt there will be something or other to “appease” supporters disappointed at the lack of signings.

i’ve made my position known previously – i think we really need defensive cover in this squad. we didn’t sign anyone, so i am over it. it’s time to move on, we have an important game tonight. if arsene chooses to come out with any sort of condescending “we were close to signing so and so…” then he is the one keeping the issue alive. you don’t bring anyone in, then don’t say anything – no need for that, all it will accomplish is polarize opinion further…

oliver
oliver

wath, everyone needs an element of luck to win something – look at man united this season. they haven’t yet won anything, but the amount of things that have gone their way is unreal. we fail by not making our own luck, but taking risks with a small first team squad, by neglecting experienced cover in certain spots. this has been happening for a few years now. i don’t like it any more than you do, but i don’t make these decisions, so i am not going to rant…if we suffer key injuries again, we’ll be in trouble and the gamble will have backfired yet again…but we are not there yet…

oliver
oliver

wath, i have ranted on this previously and the point i tried to make is that i am done ranting. i was not suggesting you are ranting – i agree with many of your arguments, but i see it as something we cannot do anything about. for me, i have to focus on a huge game tonight – remember how they outplayed us at the ems last season and we got a lucky late equalizer? we need to win tonight just to keep pace with united – they host villa (who won at ot last season) tomorrow night, in what should not be an easy fixture – villa are playing much better than earlier. so this is not only an opportunity to keep pace, but perhaps close the gap on them as well…

if we get burned and lose key players to injury, i’ll vent about it then, but not yet, not while we have a very important – and difficult game – in a few hours.

WAO WHAT A DAY SD -London IN DA HOUSE! Any body?
Okay maybe not.

But today has being about how mad the transfer market has being it just shows to tell you that Abramovic is the coach and wants to fix the team himself.

I need Red Arse or Oliver to calculate how much Chelsea will be losing per day when Torres gets injured. That will be funny.

Wenger will be shaking his head right now.

Liverpool would have got a better deal had they not bought Carrol for Β£35mil but you can see that Liverpool doesn’t a proper scouting structure and Kenny has being off football for donkey years wouldn’t know how to scout for players.

The could have bought a Β£15mil striker and a good defensive midfielder somewhere.

But right now , Arsenal is just looking like the most sensible club around in this modern age and i am proud to be proud of it.

I could see some Liverpool fans in here as well i just love it when other fans do that.

Carol will score but is not a world class Β£35mill?
Newcastle owner is smiling right now.

By the way Peoples we are second and Fergie is constantly looking behind checking us we are making the leaders scared and catch them we must.

Oliver please tonight i bet our first 11 is not up to what Chelsea spent yesterday? (Β£75Mil)

we’ve started slugglishly, to say the least…our core is playing as though they have not had recent action.

so much for that, chelsea equalize thorough pen. and then rooney gives united a 1-0 lead inside a minute.

now we’re on top here…hopefully an arsenal goal is coming…

oliver

how was that not offside?

oliver
oliver

we’re playing better than in the first ten minutes, but…as arsene would no doubt say, our first eleven seem to “lack sharpness”…perhaps this another side of mass squad rotation?

right now we are eight points behind united. we really need to pick it up…song is down, he and szczesny collided. first sagna, now song.

everton just had a couple of decent chances…we are not dominating this game in any sense.

oliver
oliver

not very good at all…1-0 down at the half…yes, the goal was offside, but everton worryingly appear more up for this than our players do.

oliver

he was…it was obvious to everyone but the referee and his lino…

oliver

but something is missing from our players out there. everton are playing as though it means more to them and it is hard to say they do not deserve the lead, as wrong as allowing that goal to stand is…

Let’s hope Wenger earns his wage then.

clear offside kozzz touched the ball slightly, but Saha was more then 1 meter offside.
We weren’t dominating the midfield as we usually do.
There isn’t Theo on the bench, so I can’t scream bring Theo on. Rosicky looks good so I can’t say bring AA on.

Maybe more central role to TR7 to allow Jack and Song to go up front aswel.

song off for diaby…we instantly get weaker in a key position.

oliver
oliver

now our players are getting petulant and frustrated. we’re not going to get anything from this if we don’t settle down and play…

oliver

robin is going to get sent off if he does not cool it…

players are still seething about the offside goal, seem to be forgetting about the task at hand…
