Real Madrid want Vermaelen, Santos staying & a few other things…..

Titbits:

After a few rumours about Andre Santos leaving us after just one season, the player’s agent and the linked club have been quick to squash such stories, his agent says the is ‘zero chance’ of him leaving this summer.

Reports are that Jose Mourinho wants our vice captain at Real Madrid next season, well why bother going any further with that one as it’s just not going to happen.

Robin picked up his Football Writers’ Player of the Year award last night and insisted that no matter what happens this summer, he will always remain a Gunner. Not good enough, he needs to get on and sign his new contract, that will show us all he’s a Gunner.

When asked about his new contract:

That is still the plan. We haven’t set a date but I will have a meeting with the boss like we did before now. We will be having a meeting about my future, and lots of other things.

Arsenal is an unbelievable club. The player I am today is because of Arsenal. When I actually signed the deal (to join Arsenal) it was a dream come true.

If you ask the likes of Robert Pires how he feels, what he feels like he will say ‘I feel like a Gunner’ – and whatever happens with me I will always be a Gunner.

Seriously, we all know he’s a Gunner, he’ll do what’s right…..

We all love stats don’t we, well here’s a few positive ones from this season thanks to Opta:

Robin van Persie has had 119 shots on goal this season making him ‘top shooter’, however his conversation rate sits at just 23% which is bettered by only Yakubu and Ba.

Mikel Arteta tops the list for his passing ability, he has completed 2298 with an accuracy of 91%.

As a team we have had 410 shots on goal, 209 of which have been on target giving us a 51% accuracy rate and have completed 15282 successful passes. Our shooting accuracy is only bettered by Manchester United but Manchester City and Swansea beat us when it comes to the accuracy of passing. ( Yes, Swansea!)

Robin van Persie is third on the list of most assists with ten, Alex Song is just behind him with nine and Theo Walcott is just behind him with eight.

Alex Song and Laurent Kosceinly are our clubs two bad boys, Song with ten yellow cards and Kosceinly with nine but let’s not forget Song also picked up a three match ban for his stamp on the little weasel called Joey Barton!

So what do all those statistics really say?

The stand out has to be the goals scored and assists – they should be higher on both accounts. Robin has been our goal machine this season, but shouldn’t his conversation rate be much higher than just 23%?

Our second highest scorer is Theo Walcott, he has managed just eight goals all season, is that really that bad for a winger, after all, Gareth Bale has only managed one more and two more assists, yet he’s raved about in the media….

We don’t need Opta to tell us how many goals we have conceded, we all know that figure is a staggering forty-four!!

Fans have different views on why we are conceding so many, some blame Kosceinly which is incredible, some suggest that Gibbs is the weak link but the majority realise that having all four fullbacks out for a long period of time was catastrophic.

We had Johan Djourou playing at right back, Thomas Vermaelen playing at left back and it was clear that neither were comfortable in either role and of course that had a knock on effect to the stability of the defensive unit and the goals were leaked.

We were pretty much all over the place through that period of time….

Add to that, we seriously lack a rock in our midfield, Song’s amount of assists tell us where his game has gone and with it his defensive duties have been neglected.

None of us know what Arsene Wenger or Ivan Gazidis have planned, but it won’t be long before we know whether or not our weaknesses in the squad will finally be addressed.

With Lukas Podolski in the side next season we should certainly score a few more goals as long as we keep creating the chances, but the biggest question is, will our club finally do something to ensure we don’t concede so many.

If they do, good times are surely not far around the corner…..

Have a good day all, tomorrow is a huge day…….

Good Morning Guys and Chicks of the Gunners’ Faith.

    Good one Rico.

The only problem in our team is the shape of the DM and defense. All the successful coaches usually begin from the back making it hard to score. Well everyone bar Chapman in the 30’s and AW now. They begun from the front.

IMO there is no weak ling in the defense. Its the mental co-ordination as a whole one unit which is lacking between the GK, the back 4 and the DM. So maybe retain Song and buy a new DM who can cover more while Songinho well becomes Songinho.

  2. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I agree with the second paragrah DG. The defenders aren’t bad but as a unit, they leave a lot to be desired. That’s why I don’t understand why someone like Adams, Keown or Dixon isn’t brought in to address this situation.

I wouldn’t have a DM and Song in the same team. That’s too defensive. It’s either one or the other.

  3. Mattyboy says:

I know pele its a kick in the balls to fans!! goes on how his going to get his transfer done early and then comes out with that! Only think i hate about wenger is a loiters over transfers! When he decided he wants them its to late another big team signs them up!

I Prey to the footy gods we get vertoghen because we would sort and command the bank four! it would kill me if the SPuds sign him up!

  4. Scott From Oz says:

RP,you’re reading it differently to me.
Do you want Wenger naming all if his targets???
Vertonghen within a week is my tip.
I heard yesterday we DEFINITELY have a pre contract with Lewis Holtby…anyone know anything of this???
I don’t know enough about the source to suggest one way or the other.
Our first five or six games should be wiped forever from the record books.
I’ve labelled that period as the perfect storm…everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

  5. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

No I don’t but we are fed the same nonsense every summer. Why does an injured player always have to come back as a new signing when this is rarely the case.

We have a massive squad and we are full to the brim with foreign players. We’d have to let some go to make sure that we continue to adhere to the home-grown rule.

I hope you’re right though Scott. I just don’t see why it would change now after seven years. It’s funny how he comes out with this the moment ticket renewals are virtually sorted.

I never used to be this pessimistic but after seven years, can you blame me?

  6. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I don’t think he turned it down Matty – it’s more likely to be Bould or Keown IMO.

  7. Scott From Oz says:

Our defensive issues start as soon as we turnover the ball.
If our guys are active off the ball,we play terrific football.
When we are lethargic,we are terrible.

  8. devilgunner says:

    RP…………

Arsène Wenger has reiterated his desire to complete transfer business early in the summer.

Arsenal announced their deal to bring Lukas Podolski to Emirates Stadium on Monday, with the German international set to link up with the squad at the end of the campaign.

Wenger is keen to add further reinforcements to his squad over the summer and will now move on to the second part of his plans.

“[We want to make early signings] if possible, yes,” he told Arsenal Player. “We wanted at least one target to be sorted out early.

“Now we are in a position where the second part of our signings will be to take care of the players who are injured and to get them back for the start of next season.

“I think of course about Jack Wilshere, and about Abou Diaby. Per Mertesacker I think will be ready at the start of next season. Then, if you look at our squad, we have quite a big one and before we buy again we have to look at how many players we will have.

Wenger concedes that another swift deal may have to wait until the futures of some of the Club’s other stars are concluded.

“I don’t exclude it but we have to respect that [25-man squad] number,” said the Frenchman. “That is a big problem for every club and before you go out on the transfer market you have to see how you cope with the 25 players.”

There is still more than one month for the start of the summer.

Then there is the future of Vela, Bendtner, Denilson, Chamack, Arshavin, Squillaci and Djourou. That is 7 senior players…..Wenger concedes that another swift deal may have to wait until the futures of some of the Club’s other stars are concluded………..you cannot buy unless you know that the others are going. What happens if you buy a striker and Bendtner, Chamack and Vela decide to stay??? Or force AFC to honour their contract??? A contract goes both ways mate.

Yes it does irk us. A LOT. and it hurts. But that is the conundrum.

The same with the Keeper. We all would like Jussi…..some for his talents, some for his experience while some want him for his looks and thighs 😉 but unless MA and LF leave Jussi will not come.

  9. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Scott, it’s the job of the manager to make sure the players aren’t lethargic. Sometimes I just feel his complacent attitude filters down to the players.

People like Song and Diaby epitomise the club’s complacency. It’s extremely frustrating to see Song school someone like Y.Toure but then get overrun by James McArthur :/

  10. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I really don’t see us gettig more than an additional two players. I’d obviously loved to be proved wrong though.

  11. GoonerB says:

I agree devil. I think Song is becoming more of a box to box type midfielder. He still provides us the power in midfield but if he is going to get forward at times, which I have no issue with, then we need another midfielder who will cover. Song is still for me primarily a defensive midfielder but what I think the better way of looking at it is by using the term holding midfielder. Song doesn’t hold his position throughout the 90 minutes. M’Villa does look interesting but I would like to see Coquelin line up alongside Song and have a chance. I know he is still somewhat a rookie but I have been impressed when I have seen him even when playing out of position at full-back. He had a good loan season last year and was highly thought of at Lorient, he likes to tackle and is technically good on the ball and with his passing. Ramsey is off form and needs a breather and to recharge himself for next season and rebuild his confidence so why not keep him on the bench and start with Song, Coquelin and Rosicky in midfield. That would allow Song the opportunity in the final 2 games to get further up alongside Rosicky when needed.

  12. Scott From Oz says:

RP,you must admit that the signing of Podolski gives me reason to be optimistic though.
Nobody really knows what Wengers plans are,but its a great start.
If we do get Vertonghen soon, then we are set for a fantastic summer.
Keep this in mind….it was only a few weeks ago Wenger was dismissing the likelihood of signing Podolski when pushed.
    He gives away nothing.

  13. rico says:

Romford – when it comes to wenger and what he says about transfers, don’t believe a word of it, thats my advice 😉

Thanks devil – Keown, in a couple of training sessions he’d have our defensive unit sorted, just as he did in 2006…

  14. Mattyboy says:

Wenger need to clear out dead stock!

No way do we want benthead back after he was running his mouth! Chamahk can go to how can he have a future if he has only featured around four times this year!

    Its bollox!

  15. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I hope you’re right Scott but I just think Wenger stays loyal to too many of his mignons – many who are mediocre too. Djourou is Wenger’s new love child now Eboue has gone. He’s just signed a new contract too – would Wenger really be looking to bring Vertonghen in at his expense?

  16. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

    Rico, I never do 😉

I just think people expecting us to bring five new players in this summer need their head checked.

  17. rico says:

Almunia and fabianski are both out of contract this summer according to the transfer website – they should both be gone…

  18. Scott From Oz says:

RP,I think we will bring Vertonghen in,because it opens up so many more options than M’Villa does….and he’s cheaper, and he’s not a hot head.
On Djourou….I can’t work him out.
He has shown,at least in my eyes, flashes of pure, utter brilliance followed by passing straight to an opponent.
    What to do with him.
Is he worth trying in the midfield?
Kozzer and TV5 look like they’d kill it in the midfield.
Vertonghen can play anywhere in defence.
    I admit I haven’t seen M’Villa play,but at the dollars quoted,I’d rather Vertonghen.

  19. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I did count them – how many of them would’ve been made if not for the 8-2?

I would no want to move TV5 or Kos out of defence – they have the makings of an awesome CB pairing.

Vertonghen is a CB by trade and that’s where i’d want him to play if we signed him. We’ve seen how some CB’s have coped when moved into a FB position.

It’s all ifs and buts though. As I said, I hope you’re right and we do bring in established top names – doubt it though.

  20. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Rico, a GK, CB, CM and an AM is what’s needed to bridge the 20 point gap to the Manchester teams.

  21. rico says:

Think you might be right scott, one of JV and M’Vila and out the two, i’d rather JV too, he’s more versitle…

  22. devilgunner says:

    rico says:

Almunia and fabianski are both out of contract this summer according to the transfer website – they should both be gone…

….and Jussi is on a freebie also. 🙂

So get him and promote Martinez.

Incidentally, mentioning the name Martinez……if AW wants a successor the club should look no forward than Martinez of Wigan. A top manager who plays the game the right way. IMO he is better than Guardiola. And we might get Victor Moses eh Rico????

  23. rico says:

Matty – def need to rid the deadwood, should have done that ages ago but a few contracts run down this summer – the likes of eastmond and hoyte are just two i think…

then nik, denilson, AA, Vela, Chamuck and one or two others….

  24. devilgunner says:

Unless Squilly, Djourou, Diaby are sold and Benny not retained forget about M’Vila and/or Vertonghen

  25. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Better than Guardiola DG?! Give me some of what you were eating/smoking for breakfast!

  26. rico says:

Jussi devil, now did you know i hope AW signs him up 😉

Martinez is going through a very good spell but he has to have another season of getting it right i think before he takes over a ‘bigger’ club.

    Victor Moses, in a flash…. 😉

  27. devilgunner says:

Yes he is RP………for the simple reason that Guardiola has never managed a club in the doldrims and got them to play in the way football should be played. Pep got to manage Barca and had top players around him. I would like to see Pep manage any other club which is not the type of Manure, Shitty, AFC, Juventus, Barca, Real, etc and see what he does and how he features. Then I will give you what I had for breakfast………. 😉

  28. devilgunner says:

….and I have never smoked a cigarette in my whole life mate. 44 years and still proud of it.

  29. rico says:

    I disagree there devil..

    My thoughts are:

AA goes and his replacement will be Santos

In at LB will be Gibbs and JV – the latter of course can play anywhere in midfield of defence…

Don’t think Benny will be kept and Squlli is definately off, either loan or sold…

M’Vila, well AW won’t like the fact that he’s been arrested….

  30. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I don’t think that’s a fair way of comparing managers DG. Pep took over a Barca side which still needed to be well-drilled and he implemented a fantastic pressing which has seen them become arguably the best side many have ever seen. It’s not like they were the top team in Europe or even Spain when he took over either.

Now don’t get me wrong I like Martinez but I don’t think you can just expect him to take the jump to manage a top tier team straight away. Wigan are in good form and have been playing well lately but if Martinez was that good, they wouldn’t be in ths situation fighting relegation year in year out.

  31. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

    And I don’t smoke either btw 😉

Rico, i’m not sure M’Vila’s arrest will put Wenger off if the interest is there. We’ve had bad boys like Ade in the past. And nobody will forgetRVP’s rape case.

  32. Scott From Oz says:

I think its unfair to both when comparing Martinez and Pep.
Pep hasn’t shown he can handle an average side.
Martinez hadn’t shown he can handle the pressure of a top club.
They’re my two favourite managers out there, but right now,I’d be more confident with Pep.
If though,Martinez came in for a year or two under Wenger, then I’d definitely think he’d do a great job.

  33. devilgunner says:

….neither AW was when he took over AFC. We all asked Arsene who???? Me included. He took us over and changed the face of the club.

Regarding Wigan there are many issues like finances, crowds, etc. But he also changed the way the club used to play and now they are better off than they were than when he took over.

  34. rico says:

Going back to what AW said in his i/v – this bit:

“[We want to make early signings] if possible, yes,” he told Arsenal Player. “We wanted at least one target to be sorted out early.

    ‘early signings’

‘at least one sorted out early’

one more to come before the sales begin?

    😛

  35. Scott From Oz says:

RP,didn’t you read my earlier post?
The 8-2 has been erased from our record books lol.
Anyway, reasons aside,we signed nine last year.
Five is no big stretch, especially with one in the bag.

  36. devilgunner says:

    Scott From Oz says:
    May 4, 2012 at 10:23 am…….

……………….If though,Martinez came in for a year or two under Wenger, then I’d definitely think he’d do a great job.

That is my ideal scenario Scott.

  37. rico says:

I’d rather Martinez when he’s ‘ready’ if i had to choose one…

Anyway, we still have Wenger, annoyingly 😉

  38. The font says:

It’s funny 6 weeks ago we would have laughed at the thought of Martinez but recent results have changed our thoughts

  39. Scott From Oz says:

    Don’t start Rico.
If he signs Jussi, you will fall in love with Arsene all over again.

  40. Scott From Oz says:

Font,I’m being honest when I say I’ve liked him for a while.
Even in Interviews,he’s open and honest, and he’s always attempted to have Wigan play good football.
    He’s an impressive guy.

  41. Scott From Oz says:

We will see Rico,we will see.
Admit it ,there’s only one man in football you love more than Jussi LOL.

  42. rico says:

    on the latest news…

Basically there are no changes from the team at the weekend. We have small bumps and bruises from our last game at Stoke but everybody who started should be available again.

    on Johan Djourou…

He should be back after his foot injury.

on Abou Diaby, who was on the bench at Stoke…

He is out. He has a calf problem. He will probably be out for the two games we have left.

    on Theo Walcott…

If all goes well he is back in normal training on Thursday or Friday. Then we have to assess the risk of a setback, so we will see. If all goes well he could be back for the next weekend.

    on Per Mertesacker…

He is doing well. Considering his shape and the fact he has six weeks to go, he should be available for Germany [at Euro 2012].

  43. The font says:

Scott I am with you on that but it did cross my mind about six weeks ago that I had got it wrong about him but the remarkable run of results has changed my mind back to thinking possible replacement for wenger in two2 three years time

  44. rico says:

We will Scott…. Nah, plenty in footie better than Jussi, only want him as he’s good, older, will help ches and he’s free….

And it will mean we can finally say goodbye to the other two bench warmers….

  45. Scott From Oz says:

    Schwarzer……
Still a fantastic stopper, the ultimate professional and Szczesney would learn a hell of a lot from him.

  46. rico says:

Him or jussi would be ideal Scott…

All down to that CL match wasn’t it alan, thankfully that over 30 rule seems to have gone these days….

  47. alanbstardmp says:

Hi Rico, I think that’s the case now. 30 an over not spoken about by the club these days

Pires still thinks highly of Arsenal. He sign up again tomorrow given a chance

  48. Scott From Oz says:

I want us to buy Yossi,if the price is fair.
He seems a guy who’d still be chasing and trying at 36.
Is it just me,or do we look better when he’s on?

  49. Scott From Oz says:

    G’day Alan.
Another splendidly sunny day down under.
    Gee,its a tough gig here,isn’t it?

  50. alanbstardmp says:

You may be right re Yossi, Scott. I never thought much of him when at Liverpool, but I must admit, he seems to hold his own for us

  51. rico says:

I think we fans would sign him today alan if he was younger, great player and a good man… (apart from that dive 😉 )

  52. Scott From Oz says:

It may have taken too long, but better late than never…….Wenger may be admitting and learning from his mistakes.

  53. rico says:

yossi would be good to have on the bench next season but just can’t see it, not with Pod, Gerv, Ryo all fighting for that left wing spot….

  54. Scott From Oz says:

    Alan,his enthusiasm is infectious.
The tempo usually lifts when he’s on,and when we play at a high tempo,we just win.

  55. The font says:

Just watched back the Chelsea game at the emirates the booing of Ramsey must stop he got caught in possession a few times but actually did not have a bad game it seems that if a player is going through a bad patch it’s acceptable some of his vision is exceptional his confidence as a young man is. Paramount to his game even if he does not take the next step up surely we must give him a chance it also effects the players who are playing well and puts a negative vibe .around the ground which reverberates back to the team we have something great at this club Let’s stick together

  56. Scott From Oz says:

    You’re probably right Rico.
Maybe I’m actually saying, without realising it,I wish we had Yossi 3 or 4 years ago.

  57. Micko says:

Song, a bad boy, he’s gonna love you rico.

Scotts right, we never would have had the pleasure of watching Squillaci otherwise.

Alan, Pires has kissed and made up since, he was training with us for a couple of seasons back.

  58. Scott From Oz says:

Font,I would never, ever boo any player representing our club unless the following occurs….
    A-he’s not trying,or
    B-he bloody well dives.
If a player is having a bad run or is simply no good,I would never think to boo him if he’s giving his all.
In other words,I have absolutely no time for anyone booing Ramsey, because he gives his all and then some.

  59. devilgunner says:

That over 30 rule was there only for one reason…..balancing of wages and age.

AW did not want the over 30’s simply because they expect bigger wages due to experience and knowing well enough that they would get them elsewhere. He also knew that regarding speed and strength it starts going downhill after 29 years.

What he did not envisage was that he would have so many injuries. He wanted to have younger players who could play tippy tappy football and run all day long. He also did not foresee that so many of his players would be injured. Thus unknowingly he was back at square one………the same as if he had experienced players who were out injured. And he did not accept it even when his prodigal sons abandoned the project and deserted him. If there are no old heads the young ones would simply say….hey I am the oldest/best here. There is no future for this team. I am off to somewhere better…….where there are better players than me.

That over 30 rule was an experiment which failed hands down. Of course no one can predict the future and after everything happens everyone is wiser.

The only problem was that AW persisted in this situation around 2 or 3 years more than he should have persisted.

We used to grumble when he bought kids in nappies by the droves. Now it seems that there is a rething. Arteta, Mertesacker, Podolski, Benny are all players over 26 years, ready made and experienced either in the EPL or on international level.

And I guess that will be the case this summer. We will see 2 players over 25 years coming to the club, plus 1 between 20 and 24 with 2 to 4 under 20 years.

  60. rico says:

Scott, things happen for a reason and we don’t know if Yossi would have been the same guy as he is now, sounds daft i know but maybe he’s giving more these days as he knows his career is nearing an end..

But yes, in principle, who could disagree…

  61. rico says:

the font – during a match, no player should be booed, maon after or before, but not whilst they are playing….

  62. Micko says:

Romford Pele, you say renewals are done, I haven’t got mine yet, have they all been sent out.

  63. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Mine has, but maybe I was speaking generally.

Still, my point still stands, I have my doubts.

  64. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

The standard should be high Scott. We shouldn’t be using the first team as an apprenticeship for our youngsters. Coquelin, Ramsey and The Ox are more than enough. Everyone else playing should be ready made.

  65. devilgunner says:

M’Vila might be a red herring. Maybe Lewis Holtby??? Someone here has already posted that he has a pre contract.

  66. rico says:

Exactly Scott, this is not a summer for buying ‘he has great potential at 16 years old’…. players…

  67. devilgunner says:

    Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

The standard should be high Scott. We shouldn’t be using the first team as an apprenticeship for our youngsters. Coquelin, Ramsey and The Ox are more than enough. Everyone else playing should be ready made.

    you are right RP.

IMO that is the standard the club should adhere to. At the moment we have Coquelin, Ramsey and the OX with maybe….Miguel, Yennaris waiting in the wings. However should a player who is the same age as these two and with better physical attributes and technical skill be bought in than they should be sold to make way.

  68. devilgunner says:

Jenkinson is already a first teamer……..so the fact that he is a potential does not hold.

  69. Scott From Oz says:

    Devil,its just what I heard.
The guy was absolutely adamant but again,I have no idea how good his info is.

  70. devilgunner says:

The only thing against Holtby is his physique…………only 1.74mtrs tall and not well built. That is a big ask in the rigours of the EPL and as a DM.

  71. devilgunner says:

Holtby is technically and tactically good. But in German Bundesliga there are no Stokes, Blackburn, Fulhams, etc. There is no in your face tactics. So he is used to players pressing but not trying to break your leg.

  72. Lee says:

I filed my season ticket as the F.P.O was on my case too much, plus my boys are playing football….. I get offered the odd ticket!

  73. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Stop reading The Daily Mash Rico 😉

Micko, I think they’ll win. When The Drog enters beast mode, it’s pretty much over for anyone he comes up against, however, Liverpool have a very good record in finals and it wouldn’t surprise me if they won either. It’s very close to call. I hate both teams though so hope they crash and burn.

  74. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Jenkinson is a first teamer but he’s still young an inexperienced. We can’t afford too many of them in the squad. Four is more than enough.

RE Holtby, he’s cool but there are so many better AMs out there. Unless we are going to spend big, i’d keep what we have. Holtby isn’t better IMO.

  75. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

If we can get M’Vila, Song can go. I know M’Vila is only a year older than Coquelin but he’s the real deal and his positional sense is awesome.

  76. rico says:

Romford – i reckon Jenks is going to be a huge player for us…

    The next Tony Adams… 🙂

  77. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Tony Adams is a big shout Rico considering we haven’t seen him line-up a CB yet.

I love his crossing ability though, he seems to get it on the money every time!

  78. Scott From Oz says:

I know we’ve bought our share of duds, but how many people thought Jenna would be half as good as he’s shown so far?

  79. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Haha Jenna has potential Scott but let’s not blow him up before his time. We’ve done that way too much in recent times 😉

  80. Scott From Oz says:

RP,I’m not getting carried away with what he could be,but very, very few fans even wanted him, when signed.

  81. Scott From Oz says:

I think people love him because he loves the club, but he’s definitely proven his worth.

  82. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Naturally there’s always resistance to something/someone you don’t know about but it’s signings like these which have made Wenger who he is today.

Sagna and Koscielny have been Wenger’s best signings in the past five years IMO.

  83. Scott From Oz says:

    Agreed RP.
Hopefully,in five years time we will hail Ox as his best ever!!!
I can’t wait to see Podolski going around in the Arsenal shirt….he could be huge for us.

  84. devilgunner says:

Jenks is a throwback to the old fashioned defender. He is already good and will get even better.

Like the others…..what he needs is guidance….especially on the defensive side of the back four as a unit.

  85. devilgunner says:

    RP…….what about TommyV???

So Sagna, Koscielny and TommyV are the best ones in the last five years.

There is also the OX but he is still finding his feet…..so lets wait around two years on that.

Off now mates. back in around two hours.

  86. Scott From Oz says:

I’m off to bed,so goodnight all.
I shall give you all an eagerly awaited report on the U/6’s after the game!!!!
    Night.

  87. rico says:

Romford, i was referring to Jenks being the future Mr Arsenal, he has Arsenal DNA right through him just like Big Tony….

  88. rico says:

What did you guys think of this story from a few days ago?

Arsène Wenger yesterday claimed he was open to Alisher Usmanov taking a seat on Arsenal’s board after the Russian billionaire claimed he wants a greater involvement at the club.

Usmanov has consistently bought up odd shares at an inflated market price – including four earlier this week at an average price of £15,820 each – and yesterday told a Russian TV channel he wants to boost his holding above 30 per cent.

He currently owns fractionally less than that figure, but should be reach the threshold Premier League rules dictate he would have full access to the club’s books.

Usmanov would also be entitled to a seat on the board, but the majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is reluctant to allow such a move because of a difference of opinion between the two on the future direction of the club.

Wenger said: “I have zero shares so I cannot sell him anything! For the rest I don’t want to be involved in that. But why not [let Usmanov have greater involvement]?

“Should he have a seat on the board? That is a decision for the board. Why not? As long as we have the freedom to decide on the sporting side, I have not to decide what is going on with the board.”

  89. Lee says:

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he won’t sell Robin van Persie in the summer, even if the striker does pen a new deal with the club.

The Gunners captain has scored 35 goals for the north Londoners this campaign and has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Barcelona.

Van Persie’s current contract expires in 2013 and Arsenal have said they will discuss a new deal at the end of the season.

“My desire is to reach an agreement with him. If not, we still want him to stay,” Wenger said.

“We will sit down with him at the end of the season. I believe he is committed to the Club.”

  90. stevepalmer1 says:

Anybody with a third share in a big company should have access to the books he is the second biggest owner of the club and should know exactly whats going on. i don’t see how they can stop him surly he should know by righr.

  91. rico says:

Hasn’t he said that before about players Lee, only to se them leave a few months later if the price is right….

Very different to him saying RvP situation will be sorted before he leaves for Holland….

  92. rico says:

he’s not far off getting the 30% needed, could be interesting times ahead when he does, sounds toi me like wenger wants him on board

  93. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I want him on board so these other pensioners can stop stealing our money without re-investing it in the team!

  94. stevepalmer1 says:

I don’t know what all the comotion is with Robin Van Persie he is an Arsenal player and he is contracted till the end of next season. why should he want to change his contract unless he feels he deserves more money and then if he wants to leave why shouldn’t he he would have honoured his contract. If he’s contract ended at the end of this season i could understand it

  95. alanbstardmp says:

    quote

Arsène Wenger yesterday claimed he was open to Alisher Usmanov taking a seat on Arsenal’s board after the Russian billionaire claimed he wants a greater involvement at the club.

AW looking after his own arse here

    quote

“Should he have a seat on the board? That is a decision for the board. Why not? As long as we have the freedom to decide on the sporting side, I have not to decide what is going on with the board.”

“As long as we have the freedom to decide on the sporting side”

Arsene, what about if you don’t have the freedom to do as you like under the Uzbeki?

  96. vernat1066 says:

Afternoon, seems the clouds of despair are rolling over again on here? Correct me if i am wrong but the club has not paid a dividend out to any shareholder so how are they stealing our money? And whilst we mightn’t like it the facts are that we have to get rid of players as we have too many.

As for Umanov i don’t want him on board but if he gets a seat then fine as long as he doesn’t interefere.

  97. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

How are the board stealing our money?
-Charging Harrod pirces for tickets and paying Primark fess for players.
-Some of the fans hard-earned money is being used to pay dross like Diaby and Djourou who are on massive wages despite not being that good.

    Should I carry on?

Usmanov has Arsenal’s best interests at heart. He understands the fans concerns and would put a lot more pressure on Wenger to succeed.

  98. alanbstardmp says:

Vernat. As a board member and owner, he has every right to interfere, and depending on the reason, the legal obligation to.

  99. rico says:

money steve, it’s about money and the club can’t afford to let him walk for free next summer, well, not unless Usmanov comes in and takes over 😉

    Hi vernat…

  100. alanbstardmp says:

exactly Rico. RvP is worth, allegedly, 35 mill to the board members coffers now. Why wait a year and he walks on a free transfer

  101. vernat1066 says:

Hi, yes as a board member he has the right to interfere but should he? What coaching badges and experience in Football does he have? Does he have business experience:- yes does that give him the right to interfere in the football side no it doesn’t. I can see how the supposed massive wages of some players would annoy people but to call it stealing is a bit over the top. And whilst i agree that Diaby is frankly a waste of money due to his never ending injuries there is not a lot we can do about that. Djourou in the other hand as fourth choice centre back is not a bad option as in reality you can not have for world class centre backs, there are not just not that many good ones out there.

Also the arguments that we need to sign such and such a player because he will be great is flawed, just because some one is good in one league or team does not mean that they will be good in ours, look at Veron, Morientes, Suker, Kezman, Berbatov Forlan etc…

Lets just accept that whilst we might want to do things differently this is not a utopian society where we can have our way and that we have to accept the reality of the situation and live with it, players need to be sold before new ones come in that is a fact, complaining about it does no one any good.

Wenger has thirty two years experience in football, he has done wonders for our club, in fact the current level of expectation and entitlement is down to him and how he has managed the club. Does this mean that he is faultless no but lets give him the chance to sort out things over the summer and then we can can take stock of where we are. If however we do not progress and make meaningful challenges in all competitions next year then it will be time to move on and look to install a new manager.

  102. Lee says:

Norwich left-back Adam Drury (groin) is a doubt for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Arsenal.

Defenders Zak Whitbread (hamstring) remains sidelined, while Marc Tierney (groin) and Daniel Ayala (knee) are ruled out of the season.

Captain Grant Holt and striker Simeon Jackson are pressing for a recall to the starting XI as the Canaries look to arrest a run of three straight defeats.

Provisional Squad: Ruddy, Ward, Drury, Martin, R Bennett, Naughton, Fox, Vaughan, Johnson, Howson, Pilkington, E Bennett, Morison, Holt, Wilbraham, Steer, Hoolahan, Surman, Jackson.

  103. RON says:

    HII…everyone…grt blog..n views…continue d good wrk…holby..is a good player..if d precontract thng is true..i cannot see us going for anothr midfielder..othr thn mvilla..

  104. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Exactly Lee, yet our team isn’t competitive enough. The only key player we missed this season was Wilshere. Even with him, we’re still around 3/4 players away from achieving success.

  105. stevepalmer1 says:

If that is the only reason rico, why are people asking Van Persie if he is staying as he knows he’s here for another term, has he asked to leave before his contract finishes, after all we paid for the length of his contract we don’t own him.

  106. Lee says:

Surely this is going to be rectified this summer…?
We’ve been crying out for a spine, for ages!

  107. rico says:

vernat, i think his place on the forbes richest men would suggest he’s a pretty good business man 😉

  108. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

How much time should Wenger have Vernat? Another seven years. I’m sorry but when i’m pay £50 a game, excluding travel, food etc to come and watch the Arsenal, I expect to see a competitive team.

A fourth choice CB like Djourou should not be chiling on £50k a week. Squillaci is on roughly the same… And people wonder why we can’t afford to keep our best players…

I agree that Wenger has done wonders, nobody will ever dispute that – but these last few years have highlighted his faults and his inability to rectify the situation.

It looked likely that Cesc and Nasri would leave all last summer so why did he not have replacements lined up?

The guy is stubborn and sometimes he hinders the team himself rather than external factors.

  109. Lee says:

TBH that’s why I filed my ST, paying £1200 to watch denilson, chammug, almunia et al Arsenal were taking the piss out of me!!

  110. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Grrr, my English is atrocious today. Apologies for the poor spelling again.

  111. rico says:

Agree Lee and tickets will only go up….

But we need him to stay steve, buying a player who is as good as he has been this season will cost more than RvP is currently worth

  112. Lee says:

It’s ok if you’re paying that for your ST but you got to be watching proper players….

  113. stevepalmer1 says:

then more reason He deserves the money, would he have been regarded as a failure had he not played had this season

  114. alanbstardmp says:

    Steve

No, I’m saying the board may direct his sale for the reason I explained. They will be concerned RvP may walk, so, being the shrewd business types they are, and being legally compelled to act in the interests of shareholders, they will sell him

RvPs contract no doubt has a clause saying the board can sell him

  115. Lee says:

    you seen this…?

Arsenal’s “25″ for next season – we still have space for new players
    By Tony Attwood

I am interested in how Arsenal will cope with the 25 rule for next season. So first, to remind you of the rules…

All Premier League clubs must nominate a squad containing no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the Home Grown Player criteria. The remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be Home Grown.

A Home Grown Player means a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21).

Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a Transfer Window or at other times only with the permission of the Board.

U21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players/squad. For the 2012/13 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1991.

The list below is numbered only to see how close we are to the 17 non-home-grown players – the numbers don’t mean anything else. The names are written as per the official register.

    •1 Clarindo Dos Santos, Andre
    •2 Arshavin, Andrey
    •3 Arteta Amatriain, Mikel
    •4 Benayoun, Yossi
    •5 Chamakh, Maroune
    •6 Diaby, Vassiriki Abou
    •7 Squillaci, Sebastien
    •8 Fabianski, Lukasz
    •9 Yao, Gervais Kouassi (Gervinho)
    •10 Vermaelen, Thomas
    •11 Koscielny, Laurent
    •12 Van Persie, Robin
    •13 Mertesacker, Per
    •14 Park, Chu Young
    •15 Rosicky, Tomas
    •16 Sagna, Bacary
    •17 Podolski, Lukas
Since we have no spaces in the 17 we have to get rid of one or two names if we want to add more. A top three might be Squillaci, Arshavin and Park. You will notice quite a few names from this season like Vela, Almunia, Denilson etc have already been discounted. Remember also that even if players can’t be transferred but are now surplus to requirements, they don’t have to be on the 25. A player not on the 25 can sit and take his salary, but he constantly reduces his chance of getting a transfer later. His value in fact, declines.

So, at most I can see us having 3 gaps.

Home grown players aged over 21 – 8 max allowed (unless of course we don’t fill up the 17).

    •1 Gibbs, Kieran James Ricardo
    •2 Mannone, Vito
    •3 Song Bilong, Alexandre Dimitri
    •4 Walcott, Theo James
    •5 Djourou-Gbadjere, Johan Danon
Moving up from the under age class of this season

    1.Eastmond, Craig Leon *
    2.Ramsey, Aaron James *
    3.Szczesny, Wojciech Tomasz *
All three are home grown, so could fit into the home grown group, and fill up the three places. If Eastmond doesn’t, and leaves the club, that means we now have (following the departure of 3 players from the overseas group, none from the home grown group, and one from the “moving up” group this situation…

    •Overseas: 14 out of 17
    •Home grown 7 out of 8
    Under age.

This list is not limited, and here I am just noting those who might actually be in the first team squad. Traditionally Arsenal nominate their whole junior squad for this part of the registration.

    1.Afobe, Benik
    2.Bartley, Kyle
    3.Campbell, Joel
    4.Coquelin, Francis
    5.Ebecilio, Kyle Stephen Joel
    6.Eisfeld, Thomas
    7.Frimpong, Emmanuel Yan
    8.Jenkinson, Carl Daniel
    9.Lansbury, Henri George
    10.Miyaichi, Ryo
    11.Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexander Mark David
    12.Ozyakup, Oguzhan
    13.Wilshere, Jack Andrew
    14.Yennaris, Nicholas
So based on my assumptions we have four places left in the squad – three overseas and one homegrown – with the option of using all those spaces for home grown players. Likewise we can add as many youngsters to the squad as we like.

It is actually beginning to look like a fairly nifty squad to me.

  116. vernat1066 says:

I did say that unless that we make meaningful challenges in all competitions next season, that means going into the last four or five games of the season with a realistic chance of winning the league, at least QF of the champions league ( if we are in it) and the same in the other competitions then it will be time to say thank you Mr Wenger but we need a change.

I would rather have Djourou on fifty grand than have bought David Luiz for twenty odd million, you cant have stars in every position and one thing i think you can say about Djourou is that he does try and is competitive and as fourth choice is not a bad player. With Bartley and Miquel also in the squad i think we are OK at centre half.

I also believe that the portrayal and acceptance as an article of faith that it is down to Wenger that players are not kept or not paid is false, we as a club have a history of not paying top wages, the board ultimately makes those decisions not Arsene. Would i like to see a more meritocratic (if there is such a word) distribution of wages yes i would but that is not going to happen at the moment and that is where we are.

Would Ursmanv change this postion? No he wont, would a rights issue change this postion? no it wont In the end he is a minority share holder and the man who pays the piper (Stan) calls the tune.

  117. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Not paid high wages?! Do you know the ridiculous money that Cesc and Henry earned in their last season at the club?

The money is there, the way it’s distributed is poor.

  118. Lee says:

RP, chamug is a mystery he scored goals when covering for RVP then he really lost his mojo…. we got to get shot of him!

  119. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Let’s be honest, we’re never going to get Higuain. But to answer your question; no.

Lee, I’d do that in an instant – it seems logical. How Wenger and the board operate leave a lot to be desired though.

  120. Lee says:

Just simple “Housekeeping”……the majority of the “realistic” signings we all want won’t break the bank either!

  121. alanbstardmp says:

    Vernat

One Usamov reaches 30%, he if legally compelled to make an offer

30% is the magic figure at which a shareholder has to make a bid for all other shares in a company. this is designed to stop shareholders avoiding responsibility. It stops them building a big stake in a company without taking on any of the duties of ownership.

If he succeeds and Stan sell we have a new boss. However Stan has 67% and maybe hard to move if he refuses to do so

  122. EastSidePaul says:

    Why no?
The guy is a proven goal scorer and only 24!

I love RVP but I would swap him in a heartbeat. God knows one wrong turn on the pitch and he is out for another 8 months.

I’ve always had a feeling that Wenger can’t handle superstars in his team.

  123. vernat1066 says:

Yes pele they were paid high wages however in comparison to City, Chelsea and Utd they were earning half of what there players can earn. In the end you need a squad of players and to get players of acceptable quality who can fill in for players who are injured or suspended you have to pay good wages.

Because we have not spent ridiculous amounts on transfers (torres 50 million, joleon lescott twenty odd million) we have provided players in the squad with good wages. The club gambled on buying players and grooming them to be the next generation of stars, this in a lot of cases has not worked (Denilson, Diaby, Vela, Bendtner etc…) however they are employed by the club at the wages they are on and until they can be sold we cant go and buy more players.

I also said i would like to see the wages used better but that is not going to happen we as a club don’t operate that way.

  124. vernat1066 says:

Cant see Stan selling Alan, and to be honest what has been coming out of the Ursmanov camp doesn’t fill me with confidence in him.

  125. alanbstardmp says:

you’re right. Stan won’t sell, unless it’s an offer he can’t refuse, and when Usamov says that, look out. He’s crook and ogligarch of the worst type, laundering his ill gotten gains though English football clubs like Abramovich

  126. alanbstardmp says:

ESP yes RvP is a risk medically. Pity. We’ve seen how brilliant he is when fit.

Even when he comes back after injury, he’s had such an impact

  127. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

East, I would take Higuain but Wenger will never bring him in. And he’s not better than RVP anyway, he hasn’t got as many weapons in his armour.

Vernat, of course we need squad players – ours aren’t good enough though. That’s why we’ve choked when it’s come to the crunch each season.

Wenger has too much faith in certain players – he shouldn’t moan when things go tits up when it’s evident to everyone and his dog that those players aren’t good enough.

  128. EastSidePaul says:

I have a horrid feeling that we will eventually sell RVP, for 20m or less.. Can’t understand how we can’t demand top price for our players, I mean the Cesc thing still hurts! Chelsea paid 50m for Torres!!
We sell RVP, Polodski replaces him, Arsenal pocket the left over cash, job done..
I hear RM are looking at Song, if we were to replace him with M’Vila I would have no problem with that, song is a good DM, but forgets his place way too often and leaves us exposed at the back.

  129. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

If the board sell RVP and don’t replace him, it proves they haven’t learnt their lessons.

Fans won’t stand for it anyway. The resistance against Wenger is growing stronger by the season and you could see how attendances were dwindling earlier on in the campaign.

  130. vernat1066 says:

I agree that some of our squad players are not good enough, given the gap between us and the Manchester clubs. However we do have some good players coming in to the squad next year and in addition we will also be able to start hopefully to make some new commercial deals which will increase revenue and give more to spend. But wholesale changes will mean that we will have yet another season where it is players getting better next year once the squad has gelled etc… We need to have an evolution in the squad so that disruptions to the style of play and the group dynamic are minimised, in my view that means buying players from the league rather than abroad as that should mean a shorter acclimatisation. We also should look aggressively at doing what City have Done with bellamy (in the past) and Adebayor and loaning players out even if we have to subsidise their wages. I am thinking of this especially for players like Denilson, Bendtner etc.. as i believe we can and will sell Arshavin, and Vela

  131. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

    Good players like who?

We have good deals, we need to be worried about people like Nike not wanting to renew because we don’t have many marketable/exciting players.

Nobody is saying wholesale changes. Is four additions to the squad a wholesale change?

I’m not opposedto buying players from home, only if they’re good enough though.. Arteta and Benayoun for example. Still, Arteta and Benayoun aren’t the exceptional players that are going to win us championships etc. We need to go a step up and concentrate on players of Podolski’s calibre. Yes they will cost money but if you manage the transfer and wage bill correctly, it can easily be done.

  132. The font says:

Song can be brilliant at times world class at some of the things he can do but he flatters to deceive he is always out of position and sometimes his passing can be horrendous he does not seem to keep concentration on the so called smaller teams he was all over the place Swansea away to win the premiership he needs to be replaced possibly m.villa if not coqelin has tenacity in abundance more discipline (spurs away) a run in the team will see if he has what is needed

  133. vernat1066 says:

Ryo, Miquel, Coquelin, AOC all with another year under their belts, maybe a Lansbury (don’t know but would like him to get a chance) We currently aren’t maximising our commercial streams, utd got a deal for their training kit, Liverpool are getting 25 million for their new shirt deal. Compare that to what we get.

As to whether four players is a wholesale change no it is not, if and its a big if they are all successful, i quoted before good in some cases very good players who have come to this league and struggled. Personally i would like to see some one like Fellaini rather than Vertoghen or M’villa as i think he would adapt quicker and give us a more physical edge against teams in the league. Beyond that i dont know i just have an issue that by buying X and Y we will automatically win that is not always the case though i do want to see an additional Attacking midfielder and a Goalkeeper brought in.

  134. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

And you think that will spear us on to a title challenge?

I already mentioned earlier that Arsenal’s first team shouldn’t be used as a finishing school for our young talent.

We have AOC, Ramsey, Coquelin and Jenkinson as youngsters in the first team. No more are needed. The people that should be playing should all be ready made. How can we expect to progress if we keep blooding in youngsters?

This talk about physical edge is overrated. What can Fellaini do that our midfielders can’t. He’s not as good as M’Vila or Vertonghen.

  135. The font says:

Romford j.v is not c.m d.m he’s a centre back people say he can play in them positions but he will not be world class there in my opinion he is not as good as kozz or t.v he is a great player but he would be a luxury taking up one of the 25 and a large chunk of wages

  136. vernat1066 says:

You’re assumption is that M’villa and or Vertoghen would perform immediatly at the same level or better in a different country and league, that may not be the case. And against a stoke or a team who is more physical a player who has thirty three caps for his country, and is used to playing with Arteta at club level and Vermalen at international level would not be a bad buy?

  137. The font says:

Vernat Fellini would not suite the way we play he is most effective for everton when yoused as target man that does not work at arsenal we are better on the ground m .villa plays the way we do and will be a perfect fit

  138. devilgunner says:

    Lee says:
    May 4, 2012 at 2:29 pm

    you seen this…?…..etc etc etc

That was a top piece mate. I had to go through it around three times and will still go to look it again in a mo.

Lady of HH………dont you think that Lee’s post deserves to be an article in itself??? IMO it is worthy of this in itself alone. Maybe Lee can expand more on it. What do you think Lady? What do you think mate (Lee)???

BDW….Good afternoon Guys and Chicks of the Gunners’ Faith.

  139. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Did the players moan about Stoke being over-physical at the weekend?!

We didn’t win against Stoke because we weren’t good enough. Simple.

They may not adapt straight awaybut the style of play, language spoken by some players and the general environment would make it a lot easier.

I love Wenger as much as the next person but i’m sure he knows deep down that without the acquisitions, we won’t amount to anything next season.

  140. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Font, where did I say Vertonghen was a CM? I know he’s a CB.

Anyway, it’s futile discussing this because i’m 99.9 per cent sure he won’t end up at Arsenal next season unless there are a raft of departures.

  141. devilgunner says:

I do not know why but I am bit like RP……….I think he will not end up at AFC. I have that feeling. Imagine AW getting Verts and having got Cahill for the combined sum of 15million and got shot of Squilli and JD. Now old Awwy Wedknapp would have jumped at such a scenario. But Lord Arsene would not!!!! 🙁

  142. The font says:

Sorry Romford you said m.villa and jv were better than Fellini using them in the same text I thought you were referring to midfield

  143. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

Fellaini is ok, I just don’t see the obsession with him. There are many CM’s in this league who are better.

  144. vernat1066 says:

I agree we need to buy players i am just worried that if they are all from abroad then we will have a transitional period in which any chance of winning the league will be gone. I agree with Romford that without aquistions we will not win anything, and this is a question to him who does he think would be the best CM buy in the league for us?

  145. rico says:

devil – it’s a really good peice that Lee posted, i too will have to read it again to understand what it means 😉

Maybe I’ll sneak it into a post when people forget that Tony Attwood wrote it 😉

  146. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I don’t think we need a CM. A CAM on the other hand….

Unfortunately there is a lack of quality CAMs who are English. All the best ones (Silva, Mata, VDV etc) came from abroad.

All the ones I want are abroad:
    Belhanda
    Eriksen
    Kagawa
    Dzagoev
    Honda
    Ganso
    Adrian

They’d all cost at least £15m. Can I see it happening? No. Sorry for the pessimism.

  147. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

The thing is, do people even know what Fellaini’s best position is? He’s played as a DM, CM, AM and striker. The fact he doesn’t excel in any position, with Moyes constantly moving him about speaks volumes.

  148. vernat1066 says:

Romford what about Sigurdson who is on loan at Swansea from Hoffenheim could probably get him for 10 million and might be able to offload Bedtner to them to reduce that even more

  149. rico says:

interesting that wenger has made enquiries about him though, guess like all linked, its watch this space time….

  150. devilgunner says:

I like Fellaini. He is the box to box type midfielder. I thing that with him in the side we can play all the following……4-4-1-1, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 and the perfect 4-3-3 (the dutch way). Imagine a midfield of him and Song in the centre with Arteta on the right and Santos on the left. Now that would be very solid behind Podolski and RVP.

  151. vernat1066 says:

I think that being able to play 4-2-3-1 away from home especially against teams who park the bus would be useful also away in Europe. However it does put more emphasis on the attacking players and we would need to be more clinical in our finishing

  152. devilgunner says:

Ramsey can play anywhere along midfield, so he can rotate them and keep everyone fresh. Theo can play up front with Podolski and RVP as can Gervinho. The above team in a 4-4-2 formation can be used against teams who like to hit on the break or when a result needs to be preserved. Against teams who come out to play, we can play the other adventurous formations.

  153. devilgunner says:

And with that formation Arshavin can be kept and used as a second striker……in his proper role not shafted out to the right.

  154. alanbstardmp says:

talksport reckon RvP has said he’ll stay if AW makes T Adams his number two. Word is AW will not. Yesterday RvP said ” Whatever happens, I’ll always be a gunner

    Code for he’s going?

  155. alanbstardmp says:

Could be, Rico. They were allegedly quotes, but as you say, it’s ” talkshite “

  156. devilgunner says:

I very much doubt that RVP would utter such a sentence. I will stay only if……….!!!!!!!

He is too mature and well educated to say that.

What I find galling is that players do not come out with a press conference where they put a stop to those speculations. Personally I would do a press conference and tell them stop writing whatever they are writing. Or when I am interviewed I would not beat around the bush. I would be blunt……..Can you kindly stop spouting this rubbish?? It is not healthy for anyone. I know you want to sell newspapers and you can do so but please do not use my name.

I do not think that that is difficult. And if someone oversteps the line he would have to have a little chat with my lawyer.

One might say……..the press would murder him. No they would not because after filling their pages about what a wonderful person and player he is they would look like utter chumps if they write otherwise. Take one of them to court and the others will stop.

It goes like that in a class or a team…….make an example of just one student and the rest will behave.

  157. goonster says:

All quiet maam…nothing on the media especially not “vertoghen to spuds” story. Hopefully he ll be announced soon. Keep your fingers crossed.

  158. devilgunner says:

I am ok mate. A bit under the weather for the last two days. The whole family has been a bit ill. Its just a touch of flu due to the changing wheather. But nothing that will keep us down.

  159. rico says:

devil – Ade did that and he got lambasted, mind you, he did change his mind 😉

Not sure RvP has done much wrong, he’s just said he plans talks – it the press that make such a big deal of it….

  160. devilgunner says:

Ade was not in the same status as RVP is now. He knows that he is just a player……..not a footballer of world status. If Ade utters the letter ‘A’ the world would laugh. If RVP utters the word ‘A’ the world would sit up and take notice.

  161. devilgunner says:

tonsillitis………..hmmm I wonder if that has come about with too much kissing!!!! 😆

  162. goonster says:

Good to know maam, good to know. What is this i hear about arsene rejecting adams. Is he for real?

  163. devilgunner says:

I doubt he has rejected TA also. Its just the utter gutter that is called the press which comes out with such shit. Mind you if he got Keown I would be more happier.

  164. goonster says:

Yeah dg both are arsenal thru and thru. We more of them. Rico, i hope you re right though.

  165. goonster says:

Rico, what’s the latest on mvilla? Don’t think we ll get him after the conflict woth the police. Wenger tends to stay off players like that…but if we are going for him, i want song sold!

  166. devilgunner says:

Its only English player who get into a conflict with the police who AW tends to stay away from Goonie. M’Vila is french….and probably AW will say that he did not see the incident 😉

  167. devilgunner says:

nah mate………lots of cousins get married Vriend. and sharing the same cup could be you and your cousin with someone else’s cup……joking mate. just pulling your leg. didn’t you feel the thug.

  168. goonster says:

What other players are we linked to maam. Anything on gourcuff yet? Really wish we ll get him. He’s cheap, the right age and ll be looking to relauch his career, ala bobby pires. Get him arsene.

  169. devilgunner says:

See ya Goonie. A bit of fun never goes amiss when you are around. Take care friend.

  170. Scott From Oz says:

That’s a little line from my favourite movie Font, sorry lol.
I love on the central coast of NSW,about a 90 minute drive north of Sydney.
Alan actually lives not far from me…..the two Aussie lads on here, and we are about half an hour from each other.
I grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney, always hated,so when we built a house, decided the time was right to move up here.
    Where are you?

  171. The font says:
