One big change desperately needed….

Morning all…

Come on Arsenal, sort this out once and for all.

Elvis Presley singing The Wonder of You is hardly the kind of song that will make the hairs on the back of your necks stand up is it?

In fact it’s boring, toothless and very very dated….

The Emirates needs something different, something that gets the fans singing from the off and something with a lot more heart and passion in the music and the words.

Ask the players, I bet they could come up with something much better. A song which will make them get focussed because I’m pretty sure the dulcet tones of Elvis don’t….

As you all know, I’m not a fan of Liverpool at all but can anyone deny that Anfield sets the bar quite high when it comes to the fans all together singing ‘You’ll never walk alone’? It must be hard for opposition players not to be affected by such an atmosphere surely…….

Meanwhile, I bet at The Emirates they just think, ‘that’s a nice tune’, sing along and that’ll be that.

The club need to make The Emirates a more hostile place, change the song, warm the fans vocal chords up before kick-off and they might just carry on singing for the following 90 minutes….

What would you like to hear as the players grace the turf at the home of football?

Keep it sensible 😉

I quite like Tubthumping by Chumbawumba and What A Feeling by Irene Cara.

Or there’s always ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life – Monty Python….

Ok, I’ll get my coat…….

£80 million for Gareth Bale?? Bet Real fans think he was worth every penny……

That’s it for today, have a good one….

TWOY , stopped sometime ago thankfully, however if you want an atmosphere then it has to be grown naturally , we have a speaker system that makes it virtually impossible to hear any pitch side interview but blasts you out of your skin as they blare music at you in the warm up. The thing about YNWA is that it is sung by the crowd when they want too, albeit recently only when the cameras are on them. Turn off the speakers and let the fans decide, Throughout matches you still hear some of the old terrace songs that have been forced away from the new supporters to whom many just wouldn’t sing even if they knew the words.
Good old Arsenal, Wings of a sparrow , Eton Boating Song ( My favourite ) Paddy got up . and many others that don’t include swearing or insults . You can’t force a culture on people , it has come from within.

    Jumpin’ Jack Flash (But it’s awlri-i-ght now/in fact it’s a gas) or
    Non, je ne regrette rien.

    Morning all,

I don’t get the everyone jumping on Ronaldo now. He’s always being a self centred prick so what would change now.
He didn’t play particularly well yesterday but I’m pretty sure he would’ve finished a few that Bale spurned especially the one he should’ve used his right foot for, if he had one.
Think he finished the CL with 17 goals from 11 games, is their a golden boot for CL too?

  4. snaparse says:

morning Rico…nice read…have always liked bale even when he was a spud anyways hope we are planning to get our deals done early no more late nights panic buys arsene….was interesting listening to arteta say the big games cost us the title I agree with him

  5. Adam says:

Morning Rico, Potter and all. The PA system at the Emirates is awful for sure.
Bale missed chances last night but he is a handful and in the light of the current market, probably worth £80 million. If we had tried to sign him I can imagine the negativity though. “He’s a sulker, he doesn’t tackle enough, he’s not as good as Junior Hoilett and I have the figures that prove it” etc, etc. From what I can see he is a big game player who can and does make the difference. I like Real Madrid because they think big and their fans expect them to.
The £50 mill. David Luiz deal though? Now that is puzzling for a team just slapped with a fine and squad restrictions for breaching FFP. Unless someone expensive is going to be offloaded.

  6. Scott From Oz says:

Adam, Luiz is over rated by so far, I just can not grasp it.
Bale, though a diver, and you all know divers drop 20% in my estimation is still a bloody great footballer.
Still, I would honestly prefer the Welshman we have.

  7. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Morning Chappies and Lasses.

    Good post Rico.

    Scott……Scott From Oz says:
    May 25, 2014 at 9:47 am…………….that was spot on.

It is a battle that I have been in throughout all my years as coach. There are so many who want to teach the boys their own way that they forget two things…………being physically tough and being their own self.

Sometimes I had head coaches telling me that players should adapt to the system. Imo that is wrong. I adapt the system to the players I have, their own individuality and their strengths.

Once I had 11 good players to be able to play 3-4-3. The headcoach accepted it and with that team (und19) we achieved miracles for two years running playing 3-4-3. The headcoach always played 4-1-3-2 however he was wise enough to realise that adapting the system to the players was correct in this case.

  8. Scott From Oz says:

    Cheers Devil,
Arsenal should buy an A League side here, as have Citeh, and let their 18 year olds who have all the technique they could want play professional football at a reasonable level.
Adam, good call on the general opinion of Ronaldo 🙂

  9. potter says:

As for young players they need to express themselves , they need to be encouraged to find their own style and level . Even at an early age you can’t mould them to do things that are not natural. You can help them , you can practice on their weaknesses , You can teach them positional play and teamwork , but you can’t teach a kid without natural speed to be a flying winger.

  10. potter says:

We would be more likely to do that in Japan’s J League I reckon Scott . Once our board have juggled the figures to see where the most money could be made . Sod the football!

  11. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Always liked “Dance of the knights” at the stadium of light, stirs the emotions, maybe we could go with something similar “O Fortuna” really scared the life outta me as a kid in the original omen film but was later used in a guinness advert and it all started to make sense.
Anyone else think Simeone was very Mourinho-esque last nite.

  12. snaparse says:

Scott it wasn’t a dive there was a definite contact and the athlstico players knew….but Ronaldo is a scum though

  13. Hell Raising Devil says:

I always enjoyed listening to O Fortuna. So to have it as the playes walk on the pitch would thrill me as well. However it will not catch on immediately I feel. Once we have an unplayable team it will be more terrifying to other teams hearing it.

  14. Micko says:

Know what you mean dev, would have suited the Invincibles down to the ground but they could have probably walked out to the birdie song and still have beaten any team put in front of them.

  15. Scott From Oz says:

Snaparse, I never suggested there was no contact, but he was going to ground well before it was made.
    That’s a dive.

  16. Scott From Oz says:

Potter, I don’t really know why Coteh bought a club here, but there are obviously reasons for it.
I’m interested to see what happens.

  17. Wavy says:

I think we should play homage to our owner!
“America” by Nice would do. A reminder of home sweet home for Stan and the Syrup. It might even encourage him to come more often!

  18. Wath says:

O Fortuna is already played by one of the teams in the Prem Lge…. Just can’t for the life of me think who it is….!

What about Frankie goes to Hollywood “Two Tribes”…..!

  19. Wath says:

Oh and don’t forget if you read all your Arsenal blogs closely there is one blog stating that they know a bloke who’s brothers mates uncle know’s the cousin of his mate’s girlfriends Dad who is related to this bloke who is a neighbour of this lady who’s daughter is seeing the nephew of the bloke who sweeps the back garden of Cesc AND they know that Cesc himself has indeed been on the phone and told Arsene directly that he is very unhappy and homesick and wants to come back to Arsenal…!

Yes folks it has to be true……….!

  20. allezkev says:

Wath, I ain’t sure what Sunderland’s music is, but it certainly sends a shiver down ya spine…
    Good tune…

  21. allezkev says:

Well that bloke, who knows a bloke, who knows ad nuseum, if he says it is so, then it must be so…

As Rick said last night, that Gabi of Atletico looked a good player…

  22. potter says:

Back in the day at Highbury all of the players had a song and when warming up the North Bank used to sing them until they got a wave. Some players milked it but it created a empathy.
If you want a copy of the Liverpool thing you have to have an easy sing along type song with a rousing finish an old classic rather than a modern pop song. You need something independent of the P.A System.

  23. snaparse says:

fair enough Scott the man definitely was looking for the pen……at 3;1 up it was a bit stupid IMO

  24. snaparse says:

I remember going to Highbury for the first time…was so absolutely buzzing…I dunno if emirates is the sane but didn’t feel the vibe when I went there could just be me though but I absolutely loved Highbury..

  25. Scott From Oz says:

Yeah, I just sent get it at the best of times Snap, but he had absolutely nothing to gain, and it just eroded more of his credibility, IMO.
I genuinely felt sorry for AM, even though I had little interest in the game.
4-1 was very, very harsh on them.

  26. Wavy says:

Can’t remember the actual title, but the Sunderland coming out tune is from ‘ Romeo and Juliet” by Prokofiev.
    Just saying!
CL last night 1st half AM were exceptionally good. Quick one touch and go passing always forward were really unlucky not to be 3 or 4 up! To concede in the 93rd minute was a bit careless but they were all knackered! However, Real were good enough not to concede more than one. Winning 4-1 was a complete travesty they barely deserved to. Win at all! Imo, of course!

  27. snaparse says:

true Scott…the emirates move was for the best but we have yet to see the best I just hope the fa cup kick start 10yrs of EPL cl and cup glories

  28. Scott From Oz says:

Snap, people will never forget Highbury! and not should they! but you’re right….let’s hope the club can kick on now and the Emirates can forge it’s own history.

  29. Gunnerdna says:

Wenger on French TV #CLFinal : “Karim could play his last game for Real Madrid today, I’m sure he’ll play in PL one day.”

  30. Gunnerdna says:

Great Arsène Wenger commentary on TF1.. Sounds a bit worried that Karim Benzema will score, though – will put his price up. #afc

  31. Wavy says:

Back to the music in you! We could always return to the marching brass band of the Metropolitan Police! What songs they played and the tenor was always worth a listen. When it was muddy they didn’t March up and down the pitch but hid away in their little enclosure in thhe East Stand close to the safety of the Clock End!
Ah, I remember it well, (Maurice Chevalier)
    Happy Days.
You know nostalgia is probably not what it was!!!

  32. allezkev says:

    Wasn’t it PC Morgan…

The biggest cheer in those days was usually reserved for the copper throwing his mace up into the air and catching it…

Only saw him drop it one time, twice on the trot as it goes…
    Hilarious.

  33. rico says:

Jookz, I’m not sure about Balotelli, he’s a bit of ‘character’ and I would imagine hard to handle….

  34. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House.
Wavey as you say I remember it well.
With 2 of my brothers I was on the North bank the day he dropped the mace. The response of the N/B was as Kev put it Hilariouse.
We were the only club in the league to have live entertainment at half time.

  35. Rick says:

Hi Rico Thinking about music we could use.
Do you watch The last Night Of The Proms
How about one of the ones that they all sing. They always give me Goose bumps.

  36. allezkev says:

Nah, it was The Good Old Days, where they recreated a late 19th century early 20th century music hall theatre…
    If I recall…

Yeah Rick, I was on the North Bank that day…
The football was dire, but we all had a laugh…

  37. rico says:

I knew you’d know the answer Kev 😉

I’m too young to remember really, was there a guy who you used to use long words at the end. Adam perhaps… 😆

  38. allezkev says:

Rico, there was indeed a guy who used long words and had this hammer, that would thump as he presented the next performer.
    Er, so I’ve been told… 😉

  39. rico says:

I wonder when he’ll finally put us all out of our misery and announce he’s signed a new contract.

Or maybe he’s waiting to announce that together with a couple of top signings…. 😆

  40. rico says:

I think he’d have been better suited for a part in a Batman film. I hear they are looking for a new Riddler….

  41. rico says:

Can’t see that in all honesty Adam.

I should have asked, what kind of midfielder, I meant attacking, defensive or box to box…

  42. potter says:

Sami Khedira is the type of midfielder we have been crying out for . He is over 6 foot , good on the ball , tackles well , defends his back four and would feed the likes of Ozil and Podolski . He has about 40 plus caps for Germany but has recently had a bad injury . He played about an hour last night for Real Madrid. So Champions League winner leaving to join Arsenal , ?probably not.

  43. Adam says:

At his best he is or was a quality player Rico but he has been injured a lot. On balance I say no. Martinez for me but he would cost more.

  44. rico says:

He’s just back from a nasty one isn’t he Adam?

Had I declined the offer of alcoholic beverage last night, I might have noticed him playing more against At Madrid 😉

He’s in the German squad though so he must be fit and healthy I guess.

  45. Bt62 Gooner says:

Evening all, did we not play Ready To Go by No Doubt at Highbury in the early 90s, Always liked that played loud and sang as Arsenal Our You Ready To Go!!! Khadira was Ozils’ bodyguard at RM.

  46. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Chappies and Lasses.

9 days since we last won a trophy. Tsk Tsk. Rico for manager.

Happy 25th ANNIVERSARY to the boys of 1989. The greatest ever title finish in history of football.

  47. Hell Raising Devil says:

I still remember that day and will remember it till the day my eyes will close forever. Yes, we may have the Invincibles, yes we might win the CL…..but that night will linger on in the memories of all supporters who witnessed it either live or on TV.

The roar, yes I repeat, ROAR I let out that day at the final whistle was the greatest roar I ever did.

Scott………in 1989 you were still laying the foundation of your mud hut. We are celebrating that. 😛
