Ok, let’s start with the team news – defenders Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny both return after injury as does Squillaci! Mind you, I hope the last of those three has no need to feature today. Actually, make that any day… 😉

We all know the players who are injured but thankfully, two of them should be back soon and that’s Vermaelen and Diaby.

Sunderland full-back Phil Bardsley is banned and as we already know, Nicklas Bendtner ineligible to face us. Last season in the same fixture, Sunderland managed to take all that was thrown at them and go away with a point!

We have had a shocking start to the season and today’s opponents have had an equally dreadful one, in fact yesterday I read an article in which Steve Bruce said that all the flack Wenger is getting for our start, has eased the pressure on the other managers down the bottom of the table. Good eh!

So, Sunderland and their start:

They have played against all three of the new boys and haven’t beaten any of them. Added to that they have been beaten by the Geordie boys at home and along the way, have already been knocked out of the Carling Cup!

On top of all that, Asamoah Gyan decided to go AWOL and stay there!

They are no pushover though, they battered Stoke and grabbed a more than deserved point at Anfield, so they are not to be taken lightly, despite the fact that they are below us in the league!

Mind you, there aren’t many below us in the league!!

In the last six fixtures with Sunderland, we have won just the once, drawn four and lost one but Sunderland have not beaten us at home since 1983.

Us, well we all know what has happened so far, so I’m not going to bother repeating it!

You know what, I feel like I write the same old same old before a game, I try and motivate, try and be positive but sometimes, it all get’s a bit repetitive and boring.

Some choose to bury their head in the sand and think that all is rosy and this run we are having is just a blip! They believe that the next game will kick-start our season, they even suggest that ‘this is when our season starts’, well it’s all poppycock in my opinion, this isn’t a blip, this has been on going since the beginning of 2011.

Our season started on the same day as every other club, not eight weeks later but at some stage we really need to start winning, I hope that day is today.….

We are facing Sunderland FC today, not Manchester City or Chelsea, you know the ones that so many fans suggest we ‘cannot financially compete with’ – no, today we play on a level playing field, with no excuse….

So Arsenal, just get on with it and let’s see how we do shall we?
