Midfielder to sign! Injury list hits a low & Financial Doping, do we really want it?

Good News Titbits:

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Santos is back in full training:

He is back in full training on Friday. He is certainly short [for Monday] because he has not played for four months but I do not really know yet, it is a decision I have to make. We will see first how Gibbs is.

Gibbs has a slight groin strain but from AW’s further comment, he should be ok:

There are lots of knocks and bruises but I don’t think anybody should be definitely out for Monday night from the players who started the game.

Arteta and Ramsey are also both fit and available for selection.

So that’s really good news which makes a change eh! In fact our injury list is looking a lot healthier, just Merts, Coquelin, Diaby and Wilshere are left and only Merts is expected not to reappear this season.

Another bit of news relates to Tomas Rosicky, according to Sky Sports he is very close to signing a new deal with us, so that’s more good news….

Onto AK’s post for the day:

Optimism has been a rare commodity experienced by an Arsenal fan for most of this season.

We have already gone through quite a few false dawns during these past seven fallow seasons. And whilst the chance of lifting a trophy has died on us, yet again, a top-four finish is still a realistic target.

That top-four finish is vital to the wellbeing of our club and really is the minimum we should hope for.

It’s not a trophy, as Arsene claims, but symptomatic of the changing face of football, where earning income has replaced silverware as the Holy Grail.

This Holy Grail is essential as player wages, agent payments and other costs spiral out of control, driven of course by the false economy provided by Arab and Oligarch owners who pour their oil money into the black hole of their play things accounts.

England have embraced this Holy Grail, this money motivated bedlam, they have been the standard-bearer for the encouragement of foreign investment into our clubs and we have all been touched by it to a greater or lesser degree.

Malaga and Paris St Germain have now shown that where England lead, others are bound to follow.

Pandora is out of her box and I don’t honestly think that there is anything that Michel Platini can dream up, to get her back into it.

FIFA cannot complain or criticise. A corrupt organisation run by a bunch of spivs, whose main aim in life is to increase their own personal wealth.

So we cannot expect any leadership from Septic Bladder and his cronies in this matter.

Platini may, or may not, have the good of the game in his heart with his FFP rules but all I can see is the big clubs driving a horse and carriage right through the middle of them.

That is where the game’s financial doping has led us.

Arsene Wenger stands out, almost as alone as a beacon as the game around him and us goes mad.

He is laughed at by cynical football journalists, criticised by ex-footballers and ridiculed by media pundits, our trophy drought so often used as the stick to beat him with.

Despite his annoying reluctance to spend the transfer funds Arsenal actually have available, we have to accept that even if it sticks in our craw, Arsenal under Arsene Wenger will not be put into the financial peril that we currently see at Glasgow Rangers, Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Coventry City.

Those clubs are at the tip of a very worrying iceberg.

Sometimes it is difficult to stay with Arsene, to share his vision of finance and sensible house-keeping and of course we are all frustrated by the lack of trophies as we watch them scooped up by our financially doped competitors.

Doped up to their eyeballs though aren’t they, in the financial world I mean..

As frustrated as we may get though with Arsenal, is there really any alternative?

Joining the madhouse of Etihad and Sibneft surely is not the answer, is it?

Good morning Guys and Chicks of the Proud Gunners’ Faith.

Well done Sir AK. Good article. No we do not want to join Etihad and Sibneft madhouses. But I do wonder what happens if both Kronke and Usmanov form part of the board with DD. It might be frightening for the rest wouldnt it??

Rico, the harder they have to work, the better for us.
    Lee,ABSOLUTELY.

I’ve been pretty positive since jumping on HH,but for good reason-I try believed we were a much, much better side than most did,and could also see light at the end of the tunnel.

Most probably thought I was some dumb Aussie who jumped on the Arsenal bandwagon five minutes ago…..they may have been right, but that’s beside the point lol.

I genuinely believed we had the makings of a very good squad.
I also believed that injuries were our biggest problem, and not losing Cesc and Arsri.

Better to have players who want to play,no matter how good.
One thing this season has done…..toughened pur boys up.
I’ve said a hundred times we are winning games now we’d have lost year, even with Cesc.

I may be naive or a dreamer to many, but I say what I think, and I am ecstatic at the season so far.

Trophies can be bought, but is rather our club build towards them.

Yes,its been a while, maybe too long, but how sweet will it be next season when we win one???????

    Bring it on,stay solid,fellow Boomers.
    Good times,they are a comin’!!!!!

  3. rico says:

Good morning fine folk, top post Sir AK…

    The biggest question is:

    Does Usmanov have good intentions?

Even though some, including me, would rather he took over our club, none of us have suggested that he throw his money around and buy us trophies as others are trying to do.

I don’t want to just go and buy buy buy because AU is rich, just sign the players that we NEED, not who we would all want for fun.

Over the last few weeks, most have named three and those three wouldn’t break the current afc bank let alone an AU funded bank.

Also, i would hate us to be a club that sacks its manager everytime things go wrong….

However, if the Podolski story is true and the belief that early dealings, positive signing are going to made in the summer, then good.

Still don’t like Stan though 😉

  4. Scott From Oz says:

    Thanks Rico……
    Great post,AK.
I think Arsene has exactly the right idea of where he wants the club to be.
The journey is rough,he’s made mistakes, but I think everyone should at the very least respect him for staying true to his beliefs.
    Evening/morning all.

  5. Lee says:

Morning fellow Gooners, cracking Micky Most AK!!
I’m looking forward to the yids dropping more points this w/e!!

  6. devilgunner says:

    Good morning Scott hoppity hop.

Top Comment…..”The journey is rough,he’s made mistakes, but I think everyone should at the very least respect him for staying true to his beliefs.”

We might have the odd fall out with AW. And also our disagreements. And I for starters still have not forgotten the Manure mauling and still have not forgiven him for it. However there is no denying that he is a top man. And I agree with the comments you did and Rico forwarded from yesterday’s post.

EHHHHH??? What you say man????? You did not realize Rico was a lady??? Where are your eyes man???? 😆

  7. devilgunner says:

There you are Rico. I managed to get from Scott what I wanted without asking for it…..and that is, a compliment for you. He said you are a QUALITY LADY. you should be chuffed.

Hopefully the scum from the slum will do like we did last year from March onwards. Loose all the games. Now that would be memorable and laughable at the same time.

  8. rico says:

I still think that this summer has to be the one where AW starts repairing, makes up for his mistakes.

We maybe sat in a lovely healthy position in the financial world but ultimately its about having a squad of players who consistantly show the commitment we are only just starting to see.

In my own humble opinion, the two major signings this summer are RvP and a new assistant manager.

Some suggest we need to buy players to keep RvP, but i also think that if we hang on to RvP, players will want to join us to play in the same team as him, and many others we already have too….

The assistant, if an Afc man, will keep the arsenal in arsenal and that is massive…

  9. rico says:

If the chavs, yiddos drop points, now really is the time for us to take advantage, we won’t get too many chances and as lee said eariler, we are starting to look like a side getting stronger as we end the season…

    Long may that continue….

  10. Paul says:

WOW great news the crappest left back we have ever had is back from injury!!! Ok he’s decent at going forward but defensively he’s poo and let’s not 4get a defenders first job should be defence!!! As far as Ramsey goes nice to see he has recovered from his burn out LOL Aaawww poor young footballer life is so hard for u more like his bottle has come back after it dissapered against AC!! And arteta lol wre do I start this man was brought to give us a creative edge that we lost when we sold cesc this guy has the creativity of a lump of wood him and Ramsey don’t have a decent killer pass in them Hense the reason song is taking it apon his self to become our new creative midfielder this is laughable as he is a defensive mid player.. Gotze, hazard even dare I dream KAKA!!! We also need a quailty centre back as Metersaker is as slow as a 90 yr old woman and turns like a wheely bin!!!!! And kosh just isn’t good enough!!!

  11. Merlin96 says:

    Morning all.

Never fear Rico. “The trend since 1996/97” said Wenger will buy big like 1996/97 to 2001/02.

In fact, Wenegr had spent about 393-mil quids since 1996 on player arrivals!

Just look at that player transfer compilation I sent to you on all transfers since 1995/96..starting with Platt and Bergy..

  12. Scott From Oz says:

Devil, when I first started posting here,I thought another bunch of pretend Boomers who ait around whinging all day, every day.
I was wrong, and am very, very happy to admit.
You guys are quality, and at last I found Gooners that can disagree with dignity.
I am a passionate, hotheaded person who loves a debate, and I get as good as I give on here.
    Love it.

  13. rico says:

    Welcome Paul…

I just don’t get your comment one bit..

    Arteta, Kos – bizarre critism

Merts isn’t the quickest, and most here believe another defender is desperately needed but that is because behind Merts comes JD and Squlli… Merts is good for certain games, injury to others has meant he’s started more than maybe he would have in his first season…

As for Santos, he’s a left back, and i’d rather have a left back playing if Gibbs gets injured that TV having to be shifted over so yes, i am glad he’s back….

We have just beaten the Yids, dippers and Milan, things aren’t quite as bad you know….

  14. Paul says:

Lol u guys are all deluded!!!!! Ur all happy with this squad and season lol yea let’s just fight for 4th place ay and sit behind the yids!!! What happend when we used to actually win things and be at the top of English football, take ur arsenal goggles off and smell the truth this squad ain’t good enough!! We went from cesc and nasri to arteta and Ramsey it’s piterful!!!! Thank god for jack or we really would have no hope for next season unless he brings in sum quality midfielders!!!!

  15. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners.
    Morning Rico. Thanks for sub~edit.
    Bloody chilly today…
    Thank God it’s Friday.

  16. Paul says:

And thanks for the welcome RICO but I want arsenal to be were we belong at the top and I’m not happy with this average squad

  17. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all.
Sir AK, again words of wisdom good write up mate. Tuesdays game has lifted many supporters spirits, many will be looking forward to attending our next match, Although they are happy with Tuesdays result we have to remember that the result has ended any future progress in this years Champions league. We are out of the Carling cup FA cup and winning the league our only glimmer of hope left is a top four finish, i believe that is a piss poor season. Every competition we entered this season we have been knocked out early, and if we are honest with ourselves realise that this is just not good enough. We get excited about a foreign player linked to us when for many years we have been promised the team will be strengthened, i will believe it when it happens as normal. Now that the euphoric feeling has died down and i have come to my senses and the realisation has hit me that another season will go by without success, and the only thing i can look forward to is trying to finish above the yids, I realise that my expectations as a top club fan was far to high, i will have to lower my expectations and just hope we stay in this division as we get worse every year. sorry thats just how i feel.

  18. rico says:

Glad you stayed around too Scott…

Paul, do you read HH and the comments each day??

If you haven’t then maybe you should have, your last comment is just so so wrong.

Maybe you should have a look back over the months comments and then come back and appolgise!!

We all know we need to sign players, we all know this current squad is not good enough, we also know that we need to sell the dead wood..

NONE of which the club can do right now so its about what we have and supporting our club!!

  19. Merlin96 says:

Arsenal are willing to allow captain Robin Van Persie on a free in the summer of 2013 as they prepare to reject all bids for the striker this summer.

The Dutchman has a little over 12 months left to run on his contract and recently expressed his desire to postpone all talks regarding a new deal until the end of the season.

    ………….
It is a big risk for the Gunners boss to insinuate that he would rather allow the Dutchman to leave on a free if he doesn’t extend his stay with the club. If Van Persie looks to force a move in the summer, should he decide against extending his contract, then it could create a major disharmony within the dressing room which could have a detrimental effect on the team. Coupled with the loss of funds, Wenger opting against selling him could have a worse effect than cashing in on the striker.

    _____________________________________________

This is a rehash of what Ivan Gazidis said before that Arsenal will not sell van Persie, and will ratehr see him walk free on a Bosman in summer 2013.

This will prove once and for all how committed Van Persie is to Arsenal.

Will Van Persie does a “2006 Va Va Voom” and sign a new 4-year contract with 160,000pw salary and a 5-mil “signing-on” fee?

Then, Wenger can concentrate on building a new 2012/13 team with Van Persie as a “FULCRUM” like what Wenegr intended to do with Henry for 2006/07 season, which unfortunately was blighted by injuries.

Or Van Persie does a “Cashley Cole”, sign on for one-year extension with 220,000pw (matching Abu Dhabi City’s offer) and an agreement that he can leave in summer 2013 to any team of his choice with a minimum 30-mil transfer fee?

I think Van Persie is waiting for Arsene Wenger and Gazidis to show sincerity and commitment to build a title-winning team for 2012/13 season by signing 2 or 3 experienced 24 to 27 year old marquee players before he will commit to Arsenal.

Van Persie had grown of all those empty promises from Wenger and Arsenal board of directors on “building for the future” since 2005/06……..and a team that declines into a feeder club to the likes of Real, Barca, Chelski adn Abu Dhabi City.

It is not so much as to whether we will qualify for CL Cup next season; but the real commitment by kroenke to open the wallet to buy marquee players..starting with Poldoski..then follow up with Gotze, Vertonghen, Giroud, …M’villa……Hoilett, N’zonzi……

Van Persie wants to follow in the footsteps of Bergy..be a LEGEND at Emirates with plenty of trophies and silverwares..playing right into his 30s at Arsenal with a bunch of 2011/12 youngster, ‘sprinkled” with a few marquee experienced players, acting as a catalyst to mature all those youngsters into a team surpassing the FRENCH SPINE….

Show van Persie this Dream is very real and will come true…and he will stay for life at Emirates.

  20. rico says:

Morning AK, always a pleasure 🙂

Morning Steve – it is a ‘piss poor’ season but we have to hope we end it strong and get at least 4th, that’s all there is on offer…

Then, the summer of change has to take place, otherwise we will have no choice but to hope that the club gets taken over by a rich owner.. one who is prepared to move us on…

  21. Merlin96 says:

Well, Rico, my estimate is that he made an overall loss of 36-mil to 56-mil on player transfer from 1995/96 to 2011/12.

If the transer is from 1996/97 to 2011/12, then the overall losses is about 36-mil.

  22. Paul says:

Steve palmer you talk sense mate these guys are crazy!!!
rico no I dnt read it everyday as I have a job and a life mate.. I understand what ur saying but if you don’t show your unhappiness then nothing will change if us fans spine up more then things might happen, I do support tge club and I’m a season ticket holder so I support arsenal to the death and would even if we got relegated!!!!! But the squad has gone from Henry, veria, pires, sol, cole, Lauren the list of amazing players go on to this shabby side, football is business if u don’t invest in ur buisness it will fail it’s not rocket science son!!!!! And arsenal might be making profit but our team has lost it’s way and quality bcos of lack of investment

  23. allezkev says:

Interlopers from LG coming on today to spread their negative vibe.
Enough to make ya weep listeni g to them.
What a sad world they live in.

  24. rico says:

Paul – going back to Santos and go back to the Milan game, the moment Chamberlain had to come off..

Had Santos been on the bench, and had he come on, would you or any of us bet against us having got the 4th goal we needed??

  25. rico says:

    Thanks Merlin, speaks volumes really…

Paul – my point is, if you had you wouldn’t make such rash judgement about us here – we too want signings like M’Vila, Vertonghen, Goetze, Hazard etc etc, but can we sign them now??

    NO is the simple answer….

  26. Gouresh says:

good article. all i have to say this this, consider your own life like this…” once you were a bachlor, had the money, went partying, holidaying etc [Highbury Arsenal when we won stuff], Then you get married, start a family, purchase a new house and have a mortage on it. do u still act like a bachlor or do you tighen up, work extra hours, make as much money as possible, cut down your partying, holidaying etc, as the most important thing to do is clear that mortage, as if you defalut, you and your family are on the street. you cannot match the spending of the new multimillion neighbour who has just moved in with his mansion and expensive cars. you would be a FOOL to do so [mancity / chlesea],” remember ALL, we have started a new life and it takes time to build and what is built with proper foundations lasts the longest.

  27. allezkev says:

    Steve, 10.02;
I understand where your coming from butthe doping of the Chavs and Arabs changed everything.
We have a stark choice, try to match them and end up bankrupt or go the direction we’re going.
Of course i want Wenger to spend what he has to spend and he will this summer i believe, mainly because the Board may begin to act as if they’re actually managing the club at last.

  28. Scott From Oz says:

AK,Le Grove is the main site I was talking about.
The single biggest group of inbred sheep I’ve ever known.

Not one person with class amongst them.

I have said many times that this fucking organization are corrupted. Today you can critisize the president of United state of America or quine of Denmark ( where i am comeing from) but if we talke about fucking bladder or his mafia organisation is the same you are critisize Jesus or Mohamad and they want crusify you, the same thing the muslem or christian fanatice is doing against everybody, who has balls to say his meaning. such a modern world we are living in really!!!!!!!! I don`t understand why nobody should talk about referees decisions, if we don`t do that they will never get better, and they will continue to thier mistakes, and a maneger in football world is not just ordinery person like you and me they have more experience and they have seen a lot on the pitch. About Plattini, in a corrupt organisation you can not find good man, if he was good, he would not stay there!

  30. zesush says:

well said AK,am so happy to see the players are finally coming back atleast give wenger something to play with, i used to see wenger as a sturbon fanatic who refuse to lay down even when the journey is a lost course. but when you see the amount of injuries and the way refrees treats us in the field of play you can’t help but wish if the injuries eased of alittle i bet we will be smiling at trophies but thank GOD they are back so we can focus on the journey for top four and win the race

  31. rico says:

Welcome Gouresh, nice way of putting it but….

We have money, we moved to the Ems in order to comepete, what we haven’t been doing is spending it all too often..

But, with the news about Podolski, and the fact that Nik, Denilson, AA are more than likely to be gone, things may improve this summer…

Like i suggested earlier, i think it’s got to the stage where Stan/Wenger have little choice….

  32. allezkev says:

Van Persie WILL sign this summer.
Now that might upset all the doomers and their mates in the Press/Media, but that’s just tough.
Suck it up you sad wankers.

  33. rico says:

AK, i too think he will sign, if he had plans to go he wouldn’t be thinking about a cosy chat over a cup of coffee 🙂

  34. Rokabox says:

    morning all, nice one AK
forget Barca, we should all follow Athletico Bilbao, boy they can play fancy football, they really gave Manure a good spanking. did any body see!?

  35. allezkev says:

Scott. I like the posts on LG.
But the posters on there, in the main, are the sadest bunch you’ll ever come across.

    Don’t feed them Scott.
They’ve got nothing constructive to add to the debate.
    Gotta go now.
See ya in a bit. 🙂

  36. Paul says:

Ok well my judgement was a little harsh on you guys but I stand by the comments made on our squad.. And I don’t agree with you saying that there is nothing that can be done as we have recently sucured podolski yes he can’t come till the summer but it’s a done deal this is showing intent and the same deals can be made with other players now!!! But knowing us we will wait till the last minute and loose out!!! So dnt say there is nothing that can be done now bcos there is

  37. barbes13 says:

arsenal don’t have to eventually join the madhouse of Etihad and Sibneft but don’t forget the football world is a direct replica of what is happening in the international circle. obviously, AK u are 100% right but i will always say this if u want to stay on the top u will have to do things of those on the top or stay in an isolated world of your own and be bully by those who are complying with the order of the day. yes!! arsenal is a unique club with fantastic fans and supporters accross the globe dispite this, she has dip in her performance but still hold her fans base with a strong believe in coach wenger who has shoulder arsenal gains, woes and blames over the years.

the struggle to hold untouchable players at arsenal is another problem. arsenal will continue to struggle if the policies on players purchase, wages and salaries are not restructure or review. i strongly see arsenal turning into a selling team and lossing her proud due to the uncompromising shareholders who aim at maximizing profit at the expense of contemporary atmosphere surrounding this advance game of our time that is taking another tow without meeting the demands of success.

  38. devilgunner says:

Paul……kindly do read the previous posts and see what do we say before calling us crazy, deluded or whatever adjective fills the grey matter between your ears. We all have our opinion and we do not like insulting other people but we can all agree that we disagree.

We do support AFC, We do want them to be top club, we do not approve of mistakes AFC have done. But we do love the club and accept that in the present climate certain things have to be acceptable.

Son you love your wife (if you have one). She might be sexy now and have long sultry legs. Will she be the same in say 30 years time?? But you will surely ove her all the same. So yes we might have gone from the sexy looks of Petit to the glare of Frimpong but we still love AFC.

  39. Scott From Oz says:

AK,i give them nothing, not the time of day.
Paul, stick around, and you might find people here actually offer up constructive criticism, and not the ranting and raving you’ve just given.
    Take a breath.
I did,and found this to be a great forum.
And no,we don’t all agree on everything, believe me.

  40. stevepalmer1 says:

AK, i respect your oppinions and understand how knowlegable you are on the Arsenal but i looked at Merlins report yesterday and looked at our profits year after year, i look at ST prices compared to other clubs and i read that we are the fith richest club in the world and all i have asked for is 2 maybe 3 top players just to make us competetive and a chance to win things i don’t think that is a supporter being greedy, or impatient just a supporter that believes his club should be a lot better than where they are at the moment

  41. Paul says:

Guys its healthy discussion not ranting and raving LOL your all very sensitive souls ain’t ya!!!! But maybe the arsenal fans do need to do a bit more ranting and raving instead of just sitting on there arses in silence and smiling as our great club slips into just and avrage club who supplies the big hiters with there only quality players!! So maybe if more people was like me things would get done at afc, just as the united fans did when they wasn’t happy and I dnt remember united not winning a trophy for 7 yrs so devil grow a back bone like me and maybe the fans can get it cracking at arsenal again!!!!!!

  42. rico says:

    Morning Rokabox

paul – very harsh, the Poldoski rumour is just that though, and until he is in red & white, i won’t believe it is a done deal.

we can’t sign players yet, if we try, we could end up in the naughty corner for tapping up and we don’t want that.

this squad is far from being great but all it needs is teeking, 4 players in the summer and we’d be a force again…

but, we also have to get rid of a load of crap who we we pay to higher wages too…

  43. stevepalmer1 says:

I hope your right Scott, i will believe it when Arsenal come out with a statement. untill then its just paper talk and i have read plenty of that for too many years. Supporters may appear happy but i can assure you that the majority are not.

  44. rico says:

paul, we are not sensitive, but booming on and making assumptions has been your downfall 😉

as did assuming i am your ‘son’, i am nobodys son as i am an old lady 😆

no more mud slinging, lets keep the respect, we are all fellow gooners…

  45. devilgunner says:

Paul……I remember Manure not winning the league for 26 odd years. I remember Shitty not winning anything for over 40 years and rememeber the scum from the slum doing nothing. Take your time mate……and allow our club to take its time. We all want our club to do well.

And no. AFC do not need people who protest simply because we are not run like Barca by the supporters but are owned by an 0wner who may not give a rat’s arse of what you and I think.

Sir SP…..I said it yesterday. Until I see Podolski playing in the Emirates I will not believe it.

  46. Paul says:

Well sky sports and BBC news both confirmed it yesterday so I say it’s dun however I agree with ur doubtfulnes and it’s not tapping up if u go thru the club mate so it’s all good, and I totally agree about too much dead wood at arsenal loads of trash that needs to be taken out

  47. rico says:

Same here Steve, we all thought Mata had signed and look what happened…

Also, the mega rich Russian club have now shown an interest in Podolski, if he is all about money, we know we won’t be able to compete with what they can offer….

  48. devilgunner says:

Scott…..another top comment. Time to kiss your bald head again. Hang on…..there is no game today. 😆

  49. Paul says:

Not saying I want the fans to run the club devil but saying letting the owners know that ur not happy is a good thing, the bord are getting richer while our team is slipping down the ranks and will be lucky to get champions league nxt year!! If u can’t see that
Then u really ate a tube mate!!!!

  50. devilgunner says:

Dead wood???? We will always have lots of it Paul. Even when we were winning we had them let alone now when we are struggling.

  51. Scott From Oz says:

Steve, the difference here is everything is coming out of Germany,so the suspicion of Arsenal spruiking it to keep us happy isn’t there.
My biggest question to Arsenal fans is why so many seem to think the club has a god given right to success?

  52. devilgunner says:

There you are mate……had you read the earlier posts you would have realised that I have always been championing the cause for the club to be run by the fans. the others can tell you that. I do not want any fucking sugar daddy with our club. I want it all to be like Barca….run by the supporters where no one is a major share holder who pulls the strings.

The chavs may have Abramovitch, shitty may have the sheiks but Barca have all the cups and players. I will be convinced by a sugar daddy when the champions league finals will be competed year in year out by the chavs and shitty. But until then I believe that a supporters run club will fare better in the end. And we are on a long term track better than the here and now chavs and shitty.

  53. allezkev says:

StevieP. I always respect what you have to say.
I can see your unease. I know it’s not all sunshine at the moment. But football runs in cycles. Anyone who has half a brain and has watched football longer than 5 minutes, can work that out.
Rubbishing players who have been at the club for no time at all just shows the depth of your football knowledge.

  54. rico says:

Until you met me Steve 😉

Have to agree that the podolski story doesn’t appear to be spin from afc, but regardless, it’s still just a story rather than factual…

99% sure it’s true, but while that odd 1% is lurking, i will reserve caution 😉

  55. devilgunner says:

No I did not eat a tube mate. maybe can you show me how its done.

We do happen to see things the way you see them young fella. Its just we might see it differently

  56. Paul says:

LOL please don’t put us in the same breath as barca arsenal as it stands aren’t even half the club they are on and off the pitch!!! And barca invest in players unlike us and realise they have to go into debt at times to do it Rico but look at the success at that club!!! Our bord are too busy lining there pockets to care about the team, that’s why David dein left bcos he spoke out and got knowere with the bored!!!! Ur in dreamland if u think we will ever like barca

  57. stevepalmer1 says:

Scott the reason that most Arsenal fans believe we should be winning things is because we have clinbed our way to the top league in the world and at the moment we lay 4th but when you look at the big picture and realise that we are the 5th richest in the world that is when you realise that we should be winning things there are many many football clubs in the world being the 5th richest means we should by all rights be winning, i understand that it isn;t a clubs God given right but our owners are giving out the message that we can’t afford top players and that in itself is not true.

  58. Paul says:

Lol Soz predictive text damn I phone lol!!!! Men2 say u are a tube lol!!! And how do u know how old I am lol???? I could be older than u devil lol

  59. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hello everybody!
The reality show us, we were knoched out all of the four competitions in March (or since middle February). Since a couple months ago, we fight for a place in the CL for next season. One more year with nothing in hands.
Rokabox, of course I’ve watched The Athletic yesterday.
In the European Cup, both Mancs teams lost with Iberian teams not fighting for winner their own internal competitons. Both Macs were relegated for this competition from the CL. Of course, Mancs can overcome the situation, but the relity is: are England teams stronger enougth in european context?

  60. Scott From Oz says:

    Rico @ 11.07…….you nailed it.
Spanish football clubs are over 3 billion Euros in debt.
Sorry, but with a fewil little tweaks,I like the way Arsenal is run.
At least we will have a club to follow in 20 years time.

  61. devilgunner says:

……yes you are still young. because you said you do not remember Manure winning nothing for 7 years. so surely you cannot be older than me. I remember them in the 2nd mate. And it was not before the early 90’s that they started winning nearly every season.

  62. Scott From Oz says:

But Steve,if we go on a spending spree,we won’t be the 5th richest club.
    Paul,Spain,as a country,is broke.
But hey, those without food can always live on the fact they’ve got some good football sides.

  63. Billboy says:

    Morning All.

    Rico,

Don’t worry about the Russians. I can give you impirical evidence that Germans don’t like the Russian winters. Crossing the channel is much easier these days!

  64. Bradster says:

FFP won’t work. Like Man City did with Ethihad which is owned by the Shiek. If he can’t plow his money directly into the team then who’s stopping 400mil sponsorship deals by the owner’s companies.
Change the stadium name or a banner or some sort of advertising for crazy money.

  65. devilgunner says:

Sir SP…..you could just add that this year we dropped 18 careless points. Add them to our lot and that puts us first…..WITH THE SQUAD WE HAVE.

  66. devilgunner says:

Paul……….CAN YOU KINDLY STOP CALLING US NAMES AND ADJECTIVES. We are being kind and civil so please.

  67. Scott From Oz says:

Paul, show me where I suggested Barca would go broke.
Lucky I live in Australia then, hey champ!!!
Joaquim,I thought it was a pretty self explanatory comment.

  68. DutchGooner10 says:

Paul Potts you may think you sound like bird but you’re actually the rooster that takes credit for sunrise.

  69. Micko says:

    Morning all,
JM, what i think Scott is trying to say is that Spain as a country is bankrupt and can only be saved by a series of earthquakes, I don’t share that view by the way !

  70. W.A.T.H says:

Paul don’t come on here and call someone a twat just cos you have a season ticket and think you know more than someone else cos actually that proves sweet FA….. You’ve been asked not to get abusive so kindly don’t be to others and if thats to much to ask then go chat somewhere else…!

    Simple…..!

  71. Scott From Oz says:

    Paul,you win.
There’s half an hour of my life I will never get back.
    Devil,I reckon so!!!!

  72. W.A.T.H says:

Whats the world coming to, Only I’m allowed to take the piss out of Scott and his duracell telly and wind up generator….! Liberties or what..!

    Morning all….!

  73. Micko says:

Hi devil, wouldn’t want to be you later if that tube comes out side ways, you’ll be walking like john wayne for a few days.

  74. devilgunner says:

    Then so be it Scott.

I agree. That’s a fecking half an hour of our life wasted. Now to continue were we left off.

you know mate. I reckon that the Ox can be the answer to what we have lost in 2006……DB10. We may say that RVP will be DB10’s heir, but our injury situation has forced AW into dig deep and play a player out of position. And I think that one day we will see a return to 4-4-1-1 with the OX in the number 10 position. What say you???

  75. Scott From Oz says:

    Devil,I will keep this simple.
Ox impressed the hell out of me the other day,so why not?
The kid could probably play keeper…..he’s just a natural.

  76. devilgunner says:

Excuse me Paul…….you were the first to fire. Scott did not. He was very civil. The labeling adjectives came from your side only. So to say that Scott was the first to start calling names is a bit too far.

We respect your views and welcome you here but remember this. No one insults anyone here. We are a close bunch and may have our different opinions but we respect each other and the country we come from. Since you do not know us do not fire at us. Get to know us and welcome to the family but once name calling starts you may find us ganging up with each other.

Again mate…we respect you and your opinion. But we expect ours to be respected.

  77. Scott From Oz says:

Lee,our beer might be too cold for you though.
Wath,Is that you slipping in the backdoor lol???

  78. devilgunner says:

Scott…..get your mud hut ready and a crate of beer plus a bottle of red wine for me mate.

No fishing rods for me but for some of the lads on here and we will come your way.

  79. W.A.T.H says:

Amazing how we all watch the Arsenal from outer mongolia on our tv’s and some knob with a season tkt thinks he knows it all cos he sings Arsenal Arsenal ra ra ra every other saturday…!

  80. devilgunner says:

Yeah Scott. Simply because he is a footballer. How I wish we had a couple more like him. Now why did we allow Bale to go across that lot from the slum. Imagine him with us.

  81. Scott From Oz says:

My mud hut actually has internal walls, too.
    No crapper though….pick a tree.
Id cry watching Bale dive every five minutes,Devil,I really would.
He is an embarrassment to his club, and himself.

  82. stevepalmer1 says:

Don’t forget Jenkinson mates, i think this lad will be one of the best Million quids worth we’ve ever spent, but i think i must be on my own as no one else seems to mention him.

  83. devilgunner says:

Nah Sir SP. You dont read my posts a lot then. I have been banging about Jenks from the first timeI saw him. Just give him time. He will be a better version of Dixon mark my words. He will be that good.

  84. Scott From Oz says:

    Steve,I reckon he’s a beauty.
    Young,quick,keen,true Gooner……the ingredients are there.
Just needs to learn his trade a bit,and he will be a very, very good player.

  85. devilgunner says:

Year 2550AD. Archaelogists searching the land of OZ for the remnants of a mudhouse mentioned in an old blog that people used to communicate with in the year 2012……. 😆

    Joking Scott.

  86. DutchGooner10 says:

Scott does that ring through your nose really give a crisp reception?? Cuz mine has trouble getting signal hampered by the wiener tube.

  87. Lee says:

There’s a good nucleus of Gunners in this squad….just add a couple of quality signings, not money-grabbing whores and this team WILL achieve success! imho!!!

  88. Scott From Oz says:

    AK,this ones for you!!!!!
    Mmmmmmmaaaammmmmmmmmmwahwahwahwahmmmm.
    How was that.
    Keep in mind,I’m just learning.

  89. stevepalmer1 says:

I’m glad you all feel the same, Why does’nt that pillock play him then, i would have thrown him on the other night instead of Chamuck. he has more heart than would have got stuck in.

  90. devilgunner says:

Tbh mates, I can see that eventually around 90% of AFC footballers will all be AFC bought up. So in around 4 years time we will see the likes of Chesney, Gibbs, Jenks, Ox, Afobe, Ozyakup, Yennaris, Coquelin, Frimpong, Wilshere, Ramsey, all playing in the first team.

I have asked to live to see many things achieved by AFC…and the majority have been answered positively. However I would like to see a full AFC team made up of 11 players bought up through the ranks by AFC. Impossible???? I do not think so.

  91. W.A.T.H says:

Agreed SP, i’d of put Jenks on when he took Ox off and played him wide right to get up and down and put decent crosses into the penalty box…!

  92. W.A.T.H says:

Dev, I was close in 2006, i could of died a happy man if it wasn’t for an offside equalizer and TH missing a sitter for us to of gone 2-0 up with 15mins to go….! That would of mean’t me seeing Arsenal win the lot and for that I would of been one very happy man so for me I want to see us win the CL and be the 1st team from London to win it as well….! Very important..!

  93. devilgunner says:

Righto mates. I am off for now. Maybe later on today. Tomorrow is a long day for me so maybe a little bit. Keep well all of you.

Off to see some Yids screwing each other’s necks due to desperation.

    Have a good day all.

    Good night Ozzie boy.

    cu mates

  94. Scott From Oz says:

    I’m off too
4 hours sleep before a 6 hour drive…..its all in the preparation!!!!
    Til next time,be well.

  95. DutchGooner10 says:

    Lee 🙂

Next year will be a prophetic mix of nature and nurture. Shock and awe will tick like a Swiss watch.

  96. devilgunner says:

Not daring Scott. Just wish it would. Being a youth coach that would make me very happy. I take pride not in the cups my teams have won but in the players that eventually make it. Especially in the national team.

And to see the same happening at AFC would be wonderful.

    Off now mates. FOR SURE.

  97. W.A.T.H says:

    Cheers Dev, nite Scott….

    Who cares AK…???? those that know… Know…!

Project youth could succeed with Arsenal youth Scott not in my opinion with foreign kids who are “bought” to leave their homes… what a surprise they run off the first sign of extra money ??

  98. stevepalmer1 says:

Wath a few are coming back now its a shame that their coming back with hardly anything to play for though. If they keep recovering the medical staff will be at a loss apart from Diaby they will have nothing to do

  99. allezkev says:

    Very true Wath, very true.

Agree SSP on Jenks. Chamuck is like playing with 10 men.

It’s a balance, team building. A bit of youth mixed with experience.
Wenger tried one model during a period when the finances were tight.
Now he’ll revert to a more traditional model.
Also we should see an influx of kids into our Academy from up North and elsewhwre around Britain now that the rules have changed.

  100. W.A.T.H says:

The thing is though SP they have pride to play for and thats what we been missing as well, if we see that it matters to them then we can at least see that when those players are fit we have the nucleus of a decent team and are a few quality players short…! If they come back and go through the motions like they can’t be bothered we have deep rooted problems but I don’t think thats the case I see players that genuinely care and that can only be good… we need more of those..!

  101. stevepalmer1 says:

Wenger gives me the impression that he’s waiting for something to happen, I honestly can’t see us buy to many outsiders only as a stop gap. i do believe that project youth will not be given up on. Barcelona seem to produce and were not doing too bad, but like all good things we will have to wait for it to happen, meanwhile our kitty will just keep mounting up. Frustrating, but i must admit watching us the other night made me think that it will be worth waiting for.

  102. rico says:

I rate Jenks too Steve, big time, he’s a gooner and has heart and soul for the club but he’s not ‘there’ yet in football terms, but we can’t expect him to be, not having made such a huge jump in in leagues….

  103. stevepalmer1 says:

Wath has ruled with an iron fist but has stepped out for a refill AK is out fleecing Spurs supporters Scott has gone counting sheep and devil is just being a devil somewhere and Lee have no doubt he will be back 🙂

  104. W.A.T.H says:

The Mega Man Flu has been crushed Rico…… I am fighting fit once again…! 😉 Also my GG stash is full up again 😀

  105. rico says:

Later this afternoon Steve, go to go collect the little feathered ones 🙂

Good to hear Wath, on all accounts 😉

Me Lee, as if I’d dare, i’d be in spam as fast as Wath could put me there… 😉

  106. W.A.T.H says:

You have the key to get out though boss so no use…. 😉

Am happy to have Rosicky about for 2 more yrs…. Seems they like his attitude and coaching role being looked at..??? alledgedly of course lol

  107. rico says:

    Paul,

i couldn’t care if you travelled to Asia last summer, just like one player is no bigger than OUR club, you are no bigger than HH, now close the door behind you….

We don’t do insults on here….

  108. rico says:

Right, that’s him gone, now what were we talking about….

2 years Lee, that indicates AW has changed his over 30’s rule, about bloomin time i say….

  109. W.A.T.H says:

What a complete and utter div………!! Amazing how some people so rate themselves….! As an old mate of mine would say what a moo moo..!

    Village Lee, more like Zoo…….!

  110. W.A.T.H says:

  112. allezkev says:

Lee, as succinct as ever mate. A one~way ticket.

  113. rico says:

indeed AK, but he wants a chat at the 12 pins tonight, silly chap thinks we dont know where that is……

  114. alan b'stard M P says:

  120. Merlin96 says:

Arsen Wenger’s “Wu Wei” Philosophy of “Doing Nothing and Leave it to its Natural State” Trasnfer Policy…

Several chapters of the most important Taoist text, the Tao Te Ching, attributed to Laozi, allude to “diminishing doing” or “diminishing will” as the key aspect of the sage’s success. Taoist philosophy recognizes that the Universe already works harmoniously according to its own ways; as a person exerts their will against or upon the world they disrupt the harmony that already exists. This is not to say that a person should not exert agency and will. Rather, it is how one acts in relation to the natural processes already extant. The how, the Tao of intention and motivation, that is key.

Related translation from the Tao Tê Ching by Priya Hemenway, Chapter II:
2 The Sage is occupied with the unspoken and acts without effort.
    Teaching without verbosity,
    producing without possessing,
    creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing, the Sage has nothing to lose.

Try to trace Arsene Wenger Era from 1996 to 2012 at Arsenal….observe his clamness in following and keeping true to hhis philosophy of the Youth Policy even till today.

“Claiming nothing, Le Professeur has nothing to lose…”

Wu Wei has also been translated as “creative quietude,” or the art of letting-be. This does not mean a dulling of the mind; rather, it is an activity undertaken to be the Tao within all things and to cultivate oneself to its “way.”

Laozi’s writings manifest wu wei when advising on how a ruler should govern their kingdom: Ruling a big country is like cooking a small fish. When you’re frying a small fish, too much poking will ruin the meal, so the meaning is: create general policies and direction, but do not micromanage. To do this well, you must understand the ways of your people and not go against the grain.

The concept of wu wei is often described as performing a selfless act but this merely exposes the background of the writer.

Is Paul performing a selfless act by his mere presence over here?

A selfless act can only be performed by someone in an egoless state. Every act performed by someone in the usual way of things has some kind of reward attached whether it is financial, power, love, status or just feeling good about oneself. All these things are ego re-inforcing. To perform a selfless act one must let go of one’s ego and pass into an enlightned state of consciousness.

This is called wu wei – the state of doing without doing. Here every act is selfless for the ego has ceased to exist. There is no I making decisions and the outcome is always perfect.

In “internal martial arts” like akido, taiqiquan or even wing-chun, one of the aims is to be able to fight in this state. There is no ego wishing to aggrandise itself by punishing the opponent and every move is performed effortlessly before one has time to think. One blocks every move by one’s opponents yet for all parties involved you might be playing with clouds (it’s painless and without harmful consequence).

    Wu wei

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wu wei is an important concept of Taoism (Daoism), that involves knowing when to act and when not to act. Another perspective to this is that “Wu Wei” means natural action – as planets revolve around the sun, they “do” this revolving, but without “doing” it; or as trees grow, they “do”, but without “doing”. Thus knowing when (and how) to act is not knowledge in the sense that one would think “now” is the right time to do “this”, but rather just doing it, doing the natural thing.

    _______________________________________

Therefore, everything we do is derived from “nothingness” and Paul is ehre to balance our views..adn we must cut him some slake…….as he is playing the Devil Advocacy and it is all just “nothingness” or “wu wei” if you let nature takes its course….and let it flow liek water off a duck’s back…

    Arsene Wenger’s transfer policy?
August 31 2012 iss till not ehre yet…..what will be will be as tomorrow ill surely comes and yesterday is just water beneath he bridge.

Taht is, what Wenger done from 1996 to 2011 is just another dscrete event, nothing to do with what he is going to do in August 2012, another discrete event…let nature takes its course as what Wenger is doing to mature this team is like “frying a small fish”…..too much “poking” you ended with half the fish sticking to the pan..

    Anybody gone cross-eyed yet?.. 😆

Trust I take the sting out of al those anger and angst starting to spout over here on Paul’s Devil Advocacy?

  124. Adam says:

Hi everyone. Just back from a faraway land full of Dutch people speaking better English than most I meet during the day here. The Dutch I met love the Arsenal, have never heard of Spurs and wonder when Diaby is coming back.

  125. allezkev says:

Ah, Mother Hen has returned… 🙂

Don’t know what i’m gonna do Sat/Sun with no Arsenal to follow on the radio…

  126. Adam says:

I don’t know Rico. I was with some Dutch wine connoisseurs and boy do those guys know how to eat and drink and spend. Drove over the Bridge Too Far now named the John Frost bridge after the British commander who tried to hold it. The Dutch are a great, liberal race it seems to me.

  127. rico says:

🙂 AK, kind of but will see how their characters pan out before being sure, two of our last were Lea & Perrin, but the latter was called Reggie after a few weeks 😉

  128. Adam says:

It was Rico. Always a tense moment when someone hands you the list and asks you to choose the wine for the evening. Do you pick a 35 Euro bottle or do you go for the 150 Euro one, bearing in mind that they are paying? A matter of dining etiquette perhaps? I worked out a good solution though.

  129. DutchGooner10 says:

So the fox bait is in, Rico. 😉

Oranjeboom was legend (founded in Rotterdam 1671), not a premium beer no more nowadays since its ingredients and production techniques were changed by the current rightsowner the Dommelsh brewery.

  130. rico says:

35 Euros on one bottle of wine, cripes, i would have looked for one around €10 Adam, especially if i wasn’t paying…..

  131. rico says:

DG, you little rascal but yes, they are in and penned in tonight, hoping they can find their way into the coop….

I always liked the boom boom beer, but that was a long time ago now 😉

  132. Adam says:

Unfortunately Rico there was nothing for €10 and these Dutch people were obviously of the gourmet kind. When in Holland, do as the Dutch do I say.

  133. rico says:

I have only been to Holland once, for a tennis tournament, had a lovely time and great for cycling…

Totally agee though Adam, would be rude an insulting not to….

  134. Adam says:

Quite right Rico. So you are a cycling tennis player who keeps chickens in the country? The plot thickens.

  135. DutchGooner10 says:

Adam gourmet dining is like walking the wire between 2 skyscrapers. You don’t look down, balance your breathing and pick your steps shuffling inches. Fork small and use the tools inwards from the outside working your way through the courses.

As long as your face isn’t greased like you’re having a shave I guess you left a decent impression. 🙂

  136. Adam says:

DG. I hope so. In Arnhem we went to The Water Wheel and the next day to a restaurant called Bronkhorst. I wondered if it was Gio’s but alas no. I did discover Dutch shrimps though. Described to me by the ridiculously beautiful waitress with the Dutch pouty mouth as the best in the World. Had to have them after that build-up and she was right. Absolutely amazing little brown fellows that tasted of the sea.

  137. DutchGooner10 says:

Adam I am more of Gamba guy, large shrimps mostly smoked or grilled. The small shrimps are indeed folkloric. An appetizer as in shrimp cocktail is something I surely recommend.

  140. rico says:

Sounds to me like its a done deal 😉

Arsene Wenger has denied Arsenal have already agreed a deal with Cologne to sign Lukas Podolski in the summer.

Reports had suggested that the Gunners had agreed a fee of around £10.9million for the 26-year-old Germany international.

Bundesliga club Cologne have declined to comment on the speculation, but Wenger admitted to reporters that he is a fan of the striker.

The Arsenal boss said: “I have not a lot to say about that because if we sign a player we will inform you. At the moment we have not signed anybody. There is still no agreement.

“The distance to the agreement is not always linked with the signing.

“When you are very close you are quickly very far again, but Podolski is a good player, I wouldn’t deny that.”

When pressed on the possibility of completing a deal by visiting German media, Wenger suggested there could be some movement “in the next two or three weeks”, adding: “anything is possible”.

Hiya mates and lady. back again. And I can tell you I am very grateful. We have got hurricane winds blowing here. Force of between 9 to 10. Yikes.

Good thing I am safely inside.

Scott, are you ok where you live?? I heard that there was some bad weather also in OZ.

Seems as if I have missed some sexy fun going around here.

    Rico….when the cat is away…….!!!!!!!

  142. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico AW just being publicly courteous to Cologne, think you’re right done and dusted. Small things to iron out before 100% certainty is reached.

To the naughty one. Think he will at least hesitate on opening another can of worms. I’m sure.

  143. rico says:

It sure seems that way devil, not good to hear you have such dreadful weather 🙁 but glad you are ok of course…

I think so DG, AW is always respectful to other clubs, but seems we’ll hear something concrete soon… maybe 😉

  144. DutchGooner10 says:

Hiya Devil evening mate. Hold on to your socks when you fortify the windows.

Speaking of worms Rico have the chicks found their night stick yet??

  145. rico says:

They wouldn’t go into their house DG, one follwed the torch light, the other were grabbed and thrown in 😉

I was quite pleased with myself 😉

Bless them, hopefully now they know where to go, tomorrow should be easier…

  146. devilgunner says:

    Evening Rico, DG10

I have never experienced such heavy winds mates. When I was driving back I was really scared. Not even when I was in Scotland at Inverclyde facing the atlantic ocean was there such ferocity. We even had some billboards blown over. Couple of smashed cars (trees) and a whole litany of flying debris. Waves are around 8 to 10 metres high.

Not even the Manure 8-2 gale was so dreadful. Good thing my team has no game this weekend.

  147. rico says:

Guys, I’m heading off for the day, bolt the windows and doors devil and you and your family stay safe…

Nighty to you both DG and devil, catch up tomorrow..

    Nighty to you all 🙂

  148. DutchGooner10 says:

Nighty night madam. May you find fresh eggs wrapped in ribbons tomorrow morning. As a token of appreciation. 😉

  149. Scott From Oz says:

Devil,I’m fine……I’m in a pretty hazard free area.
The floods are all inland, where I’m on the coast.
A lot of my greyhound friends in the bush are struggling big time.
This is a great country, but pretty brutal.
    They’ve copped droughts for years,now floods……incredible.
