Mario Gotze is next on Arsene's transfer list & he promises not to let fans down!!

We can’t seem to get away from the rumours about German players can we?

Today the newspapers are back to linking us with Mario Gotze, one 19 year old that fans wouldn’t be disappointed to see playing in red and white.

The Mail on Sunday suggest that Arsene Wenger is ready to ‘break the bank’ in order to get him too!

We can’t and won’t get away from rumours like Gotze, I’m sure there will be hundreds of other players linked to us between now and the end of the transfer window, the media love it don’t they. They all think they know who Arsene Wenger should and shouldn’t buy and they think they know who we should sell too.

Well, if they were that clever, that knowledgeable about football then why aren’t they managing a club of their own, after all, I’m sure they could earn a lot more than what they are doing in their current job!

It’s different for us, we are fans, we live and breathe Arsenal, we all play football manager, but the idiots that write about Arsenal FC each week aren’t, in fact most are the opposite, they don’t even want us to succeed do they?

Things seem a little different as we approach the end of the season, there are to date, no ‘promises’ for the summer, even the Podolski headlines were created by the German Press but instead of Wenger totally dismissing or getting our hopes up about what is clearly going on with FC Koln, he’s been honest for once.

Instead of all the bollox mind games he has just said:

He has 96 caps for Germany and is 26 years old which is the best age. He is available at a reasonable price if we can reach an agreement, but at the moment we are nowhere near. I don’t want to disappoint people and let down their expectations. Let us first see what we can do.

Maybe finally he has realised that we the fans have been disappointed too many times, he wants to finally get things right and by saying he doesn’t want to let anyone down, maybe for once he won’t.

Of course I could be totally wrong, he could still be the stubborn old bastard toad he has been for a few years now, but I don’t think so and I don’t think we’ll be waiting until August 31st to find out!

Talking of Podolski:

And that's his own Coach!!
And that's his own Coach!!

He was also sent off for trying to head-butt one of his opponents!!

Back to the here and now, we have eleven more games to concentrate on and that 3rd place could get a lot closer if we can beat Newcastle on tomorrow night.

Everton did us a favour yesterday by battering Tottenham 1-0, Chelsea just about managed to beat the ten men of Stoke annoyingly and Nikki Bendtner rammed another nail in King Kenny’s Euro hopes by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Sunderland. (Nice!)

I really cannot believe this Spurs team, who have been so impressive, can possibly be caught by Arsenal who have looked decent perhaps for 180 minutes this year.

The above comment was made by a ‘pundit’ from the BBC, I don’t know who made it but sure as heck it wouldn’t have been Lee Dixon.

When will they learn, a season runs from August until May the following year and it’s about results, not fancy football.

For years now the same pundit has no doubt criticised us for playing wonderful football but having no end product. Well, right now we are scoring goals that win games and that lot down the road aren’t, that’s life, get on with it I say.

Talking of our goals, there  is a really good interview with Robin in The Sun, have a read here, it’s worth it..

On that note, I’ll leave with a comment from him:

I have a strong feeling that we can finish third.

Best you go lead there Robin…..

Have a good day all, tomorrow we are back….

Wenger is a trend setter in the transfer market first it was signing French players, then started bringing in a lot of Spanish players but that was probably a mistake because if they came good they would move on to Real Madrid or Barca. So these links to German players are probably close to the truth actually because if you want to buy any type of player in the next 10 years it is German players and Podolski is a top player and Gotze is their best young player.

It is silly season at this moment in time and it’s not just us, it will be City, Utd and Chelsea who will have a lot of players linked to them by the media and the anonymous source close to player & club. This is maybe not because the deal is done or anything has been done.

It will be used to get the best deal for their player at the current club or it is maybe genuine or as in the Downing situation they use another club to get the buying club to get a move on or they will look else where. Same is with the football club because with Man City I think they are using RVP to get the best price for Carvani and get that deal done.

Podolski to Arsenal does look genuine. Also all bets off Hazard is going to Man Utd, Fergie looks at player he is very interested in signing him and he has probably given up on Nani ever being consistent and a top player, so forget about him Arsenal fans.

61% possesion the yids had, hit the bar a few times and the post, reminds me of our game against the dippers, except we won 😉

  3. rico says:

Hi John, think you are right about Wenger, it looks like we could be heading into the german era 😉

Not convinced re Hazard, where would he fit in at the Mancs?

Petit reckons he’s not the answer for us either….

  4. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning all, another good read Rico,
I have come to the conclusion that we are not really going to buy anybody. We can speculate all we like and Wenger when asked will always say that he is looking to strengthen if the right players become available, what else would you expect him to say. When the reality is that we have deadwood that he knows he must off load, and gradually he will but we have players in numbers standing on the fringe, we have Park Campbell Ofobe, Walcott who are all waiting for their chance, we have the same who are waiting for a chance in midfield, he brought no body in January and we were still in all the comps then

  5. devilgunner says:

Good morning Guys and Chicks of the Proud Gunners’ Faith.

Heading into the German era??? Now how do you think I would feel about that Rico???? 🙂

    Good article today.

Pundits should always remember “THIS IS ARSENAL”

  6. rico says:

    Morning Steve, thanks

I think the opposite to you this time 😉

Can’t see us signing loads, but two or three, i also see the clear oiut that we have needed for a while finally take place…..

  7. rico says:

    Morning devil, thank you too….

And a german coach in the mix maybe with Mad Jens is coming back 🙂

surely he’s not going to take over from Rice…. is he …

  8. stevepalmer1 says:

Also i keep reading that we are looking at wingers why should we, we have Gervinho Santos Jenkinson Walcott Miyaiki Chamberlain why should we need any more. Look at our midfield we have them coming out of our ears, just a reserve keeper for me.

  9. Adam says:

Morning Rico. As far as the papers go Arsenal have always been news. Always. Journalists, as they like to call themselves, know that a headline containing the words Arsenal always sells papers. If it is followed by the words “Slip Up Again” then it also attracts all those who hate our club and there are many of them, particularly in the ranks of the press. The unabated love for Redknapp and Spurs is something of a mystery until you understand that it is also a rod to beat Arsenal fans with. They want Redknapp for England because they say he “ticks all the boxes” which is apt when you realize that, in 30 years of management, he has won one FA Cup and sent many clubs plunging into financial difficulties and even administration. If that qualifies him for England then fine. Every football article of program will always want to concentrate more on whether Robin will sign a new contract because they don’t want him to. They want him to leave so they can point the finger and ask that most stupid of cliched questions”Are Arsenal a big club anymore?” or “is the balance of power changing in North London football?” it’s all the same old, same old. But it doesn’t require any effort does it. We could all write it day in, day out. It leaves them time for what they do best which is to drink themselves into a stupor and spout their raist drivel to each other.

  10. Scott From Oz says:

Steve,I’m amazed you can come up with any conclusions, because this is Arsenal, how could any of us know what’s happening?

  11. Billboy says:

    morning all
And a lovely Sunday morning it is by the sea.

Premier League awake and look to your defences. Arsene is mobilising.

  12. stevepalmer1 says:

Good point Scott, but I like you have been an Arsenal man forever, we have watched Wenger since he came we watch him with all his dealings we have heard all the pre match post match talk and lets face it we have heard it all before, Wenger will only buy when he is forced too and he has no reason to be forced to buy any body at this particular moment. Wilshere will be back in a blink of an eye he will take up his roll and carry on where he left off fitness allowing Ramsey will be alongside him Arteta and Rosiski Song Frimpong and maybe the ox, Wenger knows he needs nobody and wont spend untill he does.

  13. rico says:

    Steve –

Ryo and Jenks are in their first season of playing PL footie, they can’t be ‘relied on’ to perform week in week out, similar could be said about Chamberlain, both he a Ryos bones are still growing, just look what has happened to Jack…

Same as Campbell, he may very well slot straight in and do well, but he’s young still, as is Afobe, they need time and they must be allowed time and not too much pressure…

I don’t believe we need too many additions but we can’t ignore a few are going to go:

    Yossi
    Nik
    Denilson
    Squilli
Fabianski (he has said he wants to)
    Arshavin

    And a few others possibly….

Yes we have many in numbers coming through but they still need experience around them to learn…..

    For me

    Vertonghen
    Podolski
    Jussi
    Gotze to replace AA

  14. Marinello says:

Norning Rico, Steve, Scott, Devil and John.
Good blog Rico. I think Wenger may make one big signing, and maybe sign a back up keeper.
But we are talking about Arsene……

  15. rico says:

    Hi Adam, good comment..

I hope Harry gets the England job, nothing will change though as he will pick the same old players and the country will perform in the same old way, then he’ll know what it’s like to be on the wrong end of the media.

Then, lets hope that the Yids hire a French manager, as it’s clear to me that this is where a lot of the Afc hatred derives from, Wenger and his policy to sign overseas players because they have cost less over the years….

I find it amazing that out of the 20 sides in the PL, 18 of them haven’t won the league for seven years but only us have that ‘haven’t won anything’ label…

Well, i’m convinced it won’t be long before we are ramming that back down their throats….

  16. stevepalmer1 says:

Never going to happen Rico sorry wenger will keep buying youngsters that is Arsenals future, we have depth in numbers and nobody young will be expected to play all the time. Wenger will feed them in gradually like he always has, he made a mistake with Wilshere and he knows it, that wont happen with the Ox and the others.

  17. rico says:

Fair comment Scott, we don’t know re Hazard….

Morning Billboy, would that have anything to do with Mr Moyes 😉

Morning Marinello, thanks re the post…

  18. rico says:

How can you believe that whole heartedly though Steve?

    Last summer:

    Merts
    Arteta
    Santos
    Yossi

I think he is changing slightly, yes i am sure we will always buy the young players who look like they have a bright future, but i see us getting 2/3 experienced players in again this summer….

  19. rico says:

    The Daily Mirror…..

Arsenal are on the brink of snatching Ajax ace Jan Vertonghen from Tottenham’s clutches.

Newcastle and Spurs have been trailing the Belgium international centre-back all season with Spurs emerging as hot favourites to clinch a £10million summer deal.

But Vertonghen made a secret visit to London last Tuesday and was at the Emirates to watch Arsenal’s thrilling 3-0 Champions League win over AC Milan.

Vertonghen met up with his close friend and international team-mate Thomas Vermaelen, now back from injury and playing for the Gunners.

  20. stevepalmer1 says:

I see the England Managers job being Tottenhams achiles heel at the moment, we all know that Redknapp wants that job, but he is doing his wheeler dealings and its buggered Spuds up. if we or should i say when we overtake them that is when Harry will want to take over England and take them to the Euro’s Pearce would have been my choice he said that he would be prepared to take over with pride but after the FA talked to him he has bowed out so harry is pencilled in and he will pick his moment and i don’t think it will be the end of the season.

  21. Adam says:

I agree Rico. Wenger is stubborn but not stupid and must have realised that, against A C Milan, when he looked at the options on the bench, the cupboard was as good as bare. He also knows that we could have won that tie, despite the first leg disaster, with a deeper squad. I also believe that he will have noted the negative effect the fans unhappiness brings to the team and the general vibe around the club. I think we can all see how the youth investment has potential if FFP has teeth, but he must strive to get a better balance between youth and experience. Great players are also match winners. I hope that he invests the money the club have been saving this summer and adds to what is already a promising core of players and of course shifts out the ones that we all know shouldn’t be there anyway.

  22. rico says:

I think he’ll get the job at the end of the season Steve, and if he carries on naffing this up at the yids like he is now, good, let him stay a while….

  23. rico says:

Thats how i feel too Adam, and exactly the reason i think he has finally woken up and smelt the coffee.

I wouldn’t bet against having tried for Podoski in Jan but Koln wanted to keep him until the summer, hence things seem to be happening now..

Maybe similar with JV and Gotze??

Also, as we all know, in january prices are inflated and we know Wenger won’t be taken for a ride.

Seven year itch, maybe it’s finally going to be time Wenger has a scratch 😉

  24. Scott From Oz says:

I don’t think we will be making wholesale changes to the squad, but maybe two or three top class signings……maybe its wishful thinking.
Steve,I think in that the squad is much stronger than we probably thought six months ago.
Maybe this is because Wenger has,due to our injuries, been forced to play guys that ordinarily would have been waiting longer for a chance. If we had all players fit and firing, would Ox have been given such a great chance to show his worth-.probably not.
Anyway, who exactly knows what’s going to happen.
Arsene is probably keeping it secret from himself.
Off topic slightly,Ryo is the player I am most excited about….apart from the obvious in Ox.

  25. allezkev says:

    Got sidetracked to Paddington.
    Morning Adam.
Great post Rico. Ignore the hysteria, we’re gonna get buckets of it as usual.
Gotze is superb, but £25m won’t buy him imho.
Arsenal/Wenger won’t pay the fee required to get him.
After all he’s Dortmund’s JackyBoy. And we wouldn’t let him go for a measly £25m!

  26. Merlin96 says:

I will wait for Monday game before I started gloating on our deprived neighbour, who yet again, invariably started to collapse in Feb/March, running out of steam…….

Are we seeing a re-run of 1997/98 season where we string together a home-run of 13 consecutive wins?

cheers People…I am off to catch up with my sleep……5-2…2-1…3-0…5-2…2-1…3-0….4-0….5-2..2-1..3-0…4-0..???

  27. allezkev says:

    Gotta comment on Adam’s 10.23;
That subject Adam, would make a great post, especially with the insight you could bring to it.
So there you are mate. Get scribbling.
I, for one, would really look forward to a piece from you on a bugbear of mine. Arsenal’s relationship with the media!

  28. agirlagunner says:

Boo! rico, if we are able to iron out a reasonable deal for Podolski, move the deadwood, then Gotze may not be so so farfetched.

This is why I want Bendy to keep on scoring; he has made no secret of the fact that he does not want to be with us, and if he maintains form until the end of the season, then he’s more likely to picked up by another team.

Off with Squillaci, Almunia, Denilson, Chamakh, AA… Then we might have some funds.

    Hello, all! 🙂

  29. Osi says:

hi all, morning, evening, afternoon wherever you are.
happy Spurs lost again, but we should get close by winning tomorrow.

That Podolski guy is crazy, he looks like a troublemaker. He didn’t respect his coach yesterday, did he? He looks like a snob.

  30. allezkev says:

Rico; that report in the Mirror is typical. Vert comes over to visit his mate, and now we’re gonna sign him. Yawn!
On the plus side, if any game was going to convince Verts, then that was the game. As Scott would say, the atmosphere was ‘ripper’….
Having experienced the Milan game first hand. And knowing the frustrations we are all suffering. I predict that there is gonna be one hell of a party when Arsenal finally end their trophy drought.

  31. allezkev says:

    Hi Agag/Osi.

Likewise Toffees vs Bin Dippers. 🙂

  32. Osi says:

hi AK, i’m optimistic in regard to 3 or 4th place, but it’s gonna be very difficult. We have some tough fixtures coming in April, Spurs, on the other hand, have only Chelsea left to play.

  33. Goonster says:

Afternoon good people, here’s hoping we whup the tar out of the magpies tomorrow. They owe us one and they have it coming.

  34. Ted says:

Your quote from a “pundit” at the BBC was actually just a text message from a fan that got published on the live text yesterday, along with several messages blasting Spurs.

  35. Joaquim Moreira says:

    European press:
Arsenal will submit a proposal for 25 million pounds (more than 29.8 million euros) to Borussia Dortmund for the hiring of Mario Götze for next season, forward this Sunday the “Daily Mail”.
The British newspaper notes that Arsene Wenger does not give up the German midfielder, who has seen his current club reject a proposal by the gunners more than 20 million pounds (more than 23.8 million euros) last summer.

    lunch call me..

  36. agirlagunner says:

Come on, AFC!! Bring in the big guns! Or errr. biggish would do, too. No more Squillis or Djourous.

Boo, Goonie and JM! AK, don’t work too hard. 🙂

  37. Goonster says:

Well read jm but i can’t see it happening. We ve got 8 mid fielders no way wenger ll buy another besides we have many young players on the peripheral. No chance.

  38. Adam says:

Hi Kev. Thanks mate. Just got back from a nice walk so have only now seen your post. I will certainly have a think about such a piece. I have little inside knowledge about such stuff in reality just a gut feeling and some conclusions based on what I see and hear. So it wouldn’t be so much Arsenal’s relationship with the media as the media’s attitude towards Arsenal. I do have a few friends inside the training staff of other clubs and get to hear some really, really interesting stuff but can’t break confidence by letting you guys in on it even though I occasionally feel an evil urge to do just that. Perhaps the next time I’m in the back of your cab Kev.

  39. Adam says:

Only if you bring some eggs Rico. Then I will tell you the true story of what happened in Vegas as I know you have an interest.

  40. rico says:

Most of the Sky Sports pundits reckon Citeh will win the league, only Charlie Nic reckons it will be Utd …

I think those pundits are forgetting we will beat Citeh and hand the PL title to Fergie 🙂

  41. agirlagunner says:

Can’t stand Fergie & Co. but I want them to win if only to show the billonaire’s boys (that’s you, Na$ti and Clicky, too) that you can’t buy success.

Citeh were so so so ordinary and cannot have anything to complain about!!!

rico, Sian Massey sure knows how to make calls, doesn’t she?

  42. rico says:

    Sure isn’t JM 😉

Who is Sian Massey agag 😉

I can’t stand either of them either agag, but i don’t want money buying the league or our rejects winning anything…..

  45. agirlagunner says:

Hi, alan! 🙂 JM, I can tell. 😉 rico, the thing is, Citeh have an embarrassment of riches in attack, and still, they are sooooo boring.

I say with all the speculation linking Arsenal to every player on planet football,do the job against NU.That the gunners need improvement is in no doubt. The priority is to get the win tomorrow.
Win the game and things will follow naturally.
I believe the gunners still could do with reinforcement in the md and attack. Yeah I know we have top quality on the injury list but soccer is a squad game nowadays.

  67. goughy88 says:

i would like to add that despite all the rumours that seem to drench Arsenal to the media, att. midfielders are not an issue for us we have many and more coming through the ranks, we do however need a back up striker, if the unthinkable happens or even to give RVP a rest during the busiest season, i would stress to the manager or the board to ensure our defensive issue is highly regarded, because nobody wants to see the same issues we had this year with full backs and central defenders getting injured
