When asked whether Arsenal were still in the title race, Arsene Wenger said:
I feel, yes, of course. Yes, why not? It is a concern, because we looked quite solid defensively until now, and against Fulham we looked very fragile. If we had scored the penalty, nobody speaks about it.
You had some dodgy moments in the game, but you would have won. We were close to doing it and have to do it next game.
Sorry, but Arsene Wenger is dreaming!
Firstly, unless Arsene Wenger is ready to enter the January transfer window and sign us at least three players, we haven’t got a hope in hell of catching the top two in the Premier League.
Secondly, if the players he wants to sign are attacking players then yes, we may score a few more goals but they won’t stop us conceding them will they?
Thirdly, had we won on Saturday by converting that last-minute penalty, of course fans and the media would have had something to say about the way we surrendered our two goal lead. We weren’t undone by periods of fantastic football by Fulham finished off with wonderful goals, we were undone by our own sloppy defensive play and giving Fulham players far too much time and space in front of goal. Oh, and a stupid bit of shirt tugging in the penalty area.
As for the ‘dodgy moments’ – we have them every game these days!
We scored 3 goals, that in theory should be enough on Saturday afternoons to win a game of football and if only we could learn a few footballing basics, it would have been this weekend.
What Arsene Wenger should be telling all the fans right now is how sorry he is for the way we are playing and unacceptable it is to surrender such golden opportunities to earn 3 points.
He should also be telling us it’s clear to see that certain areas of our game need working on and rectifying rapidly if we are to have any chance of winning anything this year. How about a word on how negligent it was to sell Alex Song to Barcelona and not replace him with a much stronger and more disciplined player in the centre of our midfield.
I could go on but why bother…..
Stop feeding us spin, stop making out everything is ok because it clearly isn’t.
If Wenger really wants to win the Premier League then he needs to start making a few noises. Noises which are loud enough to land on Stan Kroenke’s doorstep because the only way we are going to have any chance of being a successful club again is by spending some money.
Real money I mean, not some old bargain from an overseas lower league!!

And we would still weak defensively. The problem is the manager and the outdated system he plays, lack of plan B, lack of player motivation and total disconnect with the fan base.
The second problem is the board and owner. Get this fixed and we would be world beaters, only get rid of the manager and we will still be a lot better than we are to day but we wont be among the top 10 teams in Europe.

My Rico you sound totally Pissed off Wenger talks out of his arse. We are a shambles and he knows it buy a striker why when we had the best, buy a midfielder when we had the best there two. He knows who we need he knows football inside out but he always does the wrong thing. Now i am wondering why. Any manager who sells his best players must realise that you will give your oponants a big boost. I now wonder about his sanity or even our sanity why do we still turn up and pay exhaubitant sums to watch nobody.
Morning TT – I have to disagree, imho what we lack is confidence, bring in a couple of beasts and that will soon change. A proper DM who will win most things in midfield, a ruthless defender like Terry in his prime and a GK…
Those three in Jan and I’m sure we’d start to see a different attitude. We started the PL defending well, but the loose of Diaby and add to that a very tired Arteta and Cazorla and we are struggling.

we are playing plan B as plan A. We are slow, can’t counter attack, we can’t hold the ball or pass, no midfield to dictate the play and pace so we resort to crosses and long balls aiming for the big man up front.
If we asked the team who would like to play the wings you’d get Santos, Jenks and other under 21’s putting their hands up.
I went fishing Saturday Morning and came home Sunday afternoon forgot my radio and my pillow got the result off of my phone which totally pissed me off too. Had a wide spread frost saturday night with no moon not a touch on my rods all weekend and i froze my nuts off but rather that, than watch this shower of shit we have playing at the moment.

Who said that there is more chance of winning the boat race ? Regarding Arteta and whether he fouled or not no-one has mentioned the hospital pass he was given facing our goal with two players breathing down his neck. Sometimes it’s just best to clear it up field.
Rico for that to happen the manager will need to change his stance and that will never happen. He does not like confrontation at all and as soon as a player speaks out he is gotten rid off. Our problem is not so much personnel but how the team is set up.
None of our defenders is a bad player and same is true about midfield and the attack. With the creativity we have we should be creating a lot more chances and getting more goals and still we don’t.
Look at the goals that Giraud got, both headers. But do we play to his strengths? NO we don’t, we rarely cross the ball to his head, it’s simply not done at Arsenal any more.

The difference between SAF and AW is that SAF plays to his players strength and AW does not.
I had been saying all along that RVP’s best position is as one of the forwards in a 4-4-1-1 tactic. Did AW use that? you can bet anything you want that it never crossed his mind. He is stuck with 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 as it is.
SAF??? This season they have always gone, YES YOU GUESSED IT…………4-4-1-1. Even against us they played that way.

Wenger needs to take a look at who we play before deciding on how we play/set up… That’s where another problem lies…
But at the end of the day the major formation SAF uses with RVP is the 4-4-1-1. Why? Because it brings the best out of his two main assets……..RVP and Shreck.
Santos is probably our best crosser of the ball…..second best,Arshavin wins hands down.
With Santos,the negatives outweigh the positives though.

The last time we played like a proper Arsenal team was in 2008 where every team were scared to play against us but because we had a rubbish defense we lost the league.

A new monday, same old moaning. As I have said on numerous occasions I am AW biggest fan but even I have ran out of excuses for him. No matter what he claims a squad with this quality should be on at least 22 points not the 16 points we are on.
He says he is playing Poldi on the LHS for the good of the team but every goal he scores or set up we concede another.
The youth system is a joke. What is the point in having all the young players if they will not be trusted to play in the first team.
The 10 points lead we surrendered in 2008 was the bullet that killed the real AW.

Because AW does not rotate and manage the squad properly due to reasons that include injuries, lack of squad depth, suspensions and his own laziness he reverts to his copy book formation 4-2-3-1 formation which is very easy to combat with the lazy players we have in our squad. Remember chelski play the same formation as we do. But that formation requires 3 very good players on the wings and 1 behind the striker which unfortunately our players are not to that standard.
Dortmond and Bayern also use the same formation but have Reus and Robin whilst we have well ….
As I posted yesterday aerial shots of some off the key areas we lose matches in indicate that the players playing in that position are either not suited or are too tired to play there every 3 days.

Initially I was sceptic as you all know about Theo.
But I have been observing him lately and it seems that many jigsaws are falling into place.
I also happen to like the way he takes corners and from his corners we have also scored……..a sort of miracle when you consider we rarely score from there.
And the way he is linking with Giroud is much better than the understanding he had with RVP.

Tsgh – tbh, we have always lacked depth in our squad, even when we were winning trophies. We just got lucky with injuries back then otherwise we’d have seen the likes of Senderos, Cygan, Stepanvos etc etc far more often….

I would prefer AW to go 3-5-2 so that the wing backs cover the un-natural wingers in the team or revert to a 4-1-3-2 with a very defensive back 4 who do not cross the half way line and a deeper sitting DM to pick the no.10 of the opposing teams.
The reason why I am saying that is because players who have played in that position against us like Wes Hoolahan have had too much joy around the D area. Holtby and Ruiz are other examples who have terrorized us in that particular area.

We have’nt got a real DM.Fulham game was the demonstration of our shortcomings in that area. Apart from Mertesacker all other defenders are having problems atm.

He changes every natural DM in our squad to play like Lothar Matthaus. He has really messed up all the players who have joined Arsenal with any defensive credibility. Even Adams favourite player was highly rated before he joined us. Eastmond was a proper DM when he played for us 3-4 years ago and then he he was ‘encouraged to express himself’ and that was it for him.
Frimps was more postionally aware when he played in the emirates competition and at the Udinese match but as the season went on he was encouraged to move further up.
Talking of Adams I have not seen him here for awhile.
All of them were rubbish apart from Mertesacker even Theo was rubbish in 1st half.

Arshavin has surely improved compared to last season but he still wouldn’t play him .He sent in Ramsey instead early into the second half and he nearly got himself sent out.

A strange thing happened on Saturday. I never got angry or anxious during the game…Well maybe once when Sagna lost the ball because Arteta refused to move 5 yards forward to provide a pass when we were behind. But apart from that I had no emotional reaction. I love watching Arsenal because of how we play and not who plays or even what the final score is. But if we have no signature style then what am i supporting? Especially for someone like me who is not from London, or even England. I have no argument as to why my team deserves to win more than any other. We do not play the best football anymore. How can i support or defend a football team that does not play the best football? I don’t care about who plays for us, just how we play. And right now, this Arsenal team is not playing well. ESPN even rubbed it in my face on Saturday by showing Arsenals best FA cup moments for an hour right after the game. It was like night and day. I will continue to be withdrawn emotionally until my team gives me a reason to be hopeful.

I disagree on his ability though. We have suffered because we do not have players of his fibre in the team. Why would AW keep Le Coq instead of frimps when le coq will be off in 2 years time. Will I like to go battle with Theo or Frimps I know who I will pick.
Sometimes we need passion and without a fighter in the team we are going no where.
Remember Barca were on the peripherals 10 years ago until they had the spanish players come through.

I am with you 1000% on frimps. I am seething even though goal.com can not be trusted. The fact is he has not featured for both U-21 and the first team training so i think there may be some truth to it. A player who says
‘Arsenal FC is pumping through my veins. I will never leave Arsenal even if I get released I will beg on both knees to stay they’re going to have to escort me [out]’.
….does not deserve that treatment at all.
Barca had Rivaldo and Figo and won jack all until they had barca DNA like Puyol etc in the team. Class does not win you cack. Look at Neville and carragher pure passion and determination not the hollywood crap most of our players have.

Afternoon, i think this season could turn out a real disapointment for me i really believed we may just do somthing this season and i still think we could do but not with the same old same old that Wenger continually frustrates me with. A defence that has struggled to keep a clean sheet are made to play diferent marking tactics our playmakers playing diferent positions than their used to. sickness by the same players and he perseveres with them. Mabe some of these players would last longer in a less chalenging league. We have Walcott will he sign or won’t he just sell him we know he has flashes of brilliance but sadly he is like fireworks night just once a year. Wenger in my mind is out of idea’s he is trying out things which i would expect from a younger man trying to build a future. he needs some one to shout in his ear buy Quality keep it simple and buck your fucking idea’s up or piss off. sorru housers this sodding about is really getting up my nose.

Trying to be serious for a moment Mick (difficult for me) i have to say how concerned i am about the form of Vermaelen, he looked so dominant earlier in the season, but now he looks a bundle of nerves, and sticking him out at left-back really isn’t the answer in my view.
That will only serve to shred what little confidence he has left…
Why oh why didn’t Wenger give Sagna a go at left-back, whilst bringing Jenks back at right-back…
End result, we have a perfectly good right-back sitting on the bench scratching his nuts whilst our left-back position is a shit sandwich…

Sagna is not a left back. He is one of the best right backs out there. I’m not ok with the idea of playing him on the left just so Jenks can get a run out. Why not convert Jenks to a LB in that case. And i know he has played there before, but the fact remains that he is not a natural lb.
Serious again, yeah, sagna played a lot of football in France, prior to joining us, at left-back i believe.
Coach will confirm that i’m sure.
In fact, i’m sure that Sagna has played centre-back as well, so it’s a no-brainer…
Therefore the obvious reason it hasn’t occurred to Arsene, bless him…
Will, desperate times call for desperate measures, but I did say short term, it just seems the most logical thing to do and like most on here agree with you about him being one of the best right backs out there.
Will, i don’t think we looked vunerable at right-back with Jenks playing there, but we certainly looked vunerable at left-back with Santos and now Tommy V.
Sagna on the left would be a temporary measure, and as he is easily one of our best and most intelligent and also experienced defenders, i think he would be able to cope in that position better than any of the other possible alternatives…
But unless AW tries him, we’ll never know will we mate…
Does anybody out there, really think that Mancini would sell Dzeko to Arsenal and strengthen a rival (don’t laugh) even if our tight Board sanction the finance required???

Yes the DNA flowing through the veins and patience was the advice Puyol gave to Cesc when he was pushing to move to Baraca. He told him he did not start winning until he was 26 years old so Cesc should stay with Arsenal but Pique and the spanish cougar had already turned him.
I think we will be fine with Yennaris and CJ25 in the team. We just need to make sure we do not drop out of the CL spot for a least another year.
Lansbury was a different situation though. Like kyle Bartley he thought he was ready but they are both sitting on the bench with weaker teams.

Rico – It is just my gut. I do not believe the funds are really available but AW likes his seven mill per year much to dispute.
Ball watching when running back into defense needs to stop. Nobody defends like that against us. Why do we do it? Everyone who plays against us scrambles to get back into shape but we are fine just jogging back and having people sprinting into the attack behind our backs.
Also, our midfielders, except Jack, never look like they want the ball. Instead of being proactive and aggressive off the ball, they leave it up to the person with the ball to decide what to do. Most of the game is played and decided off the ball. We don’t seem to understand that. This is why I can’t wait to see the little master back on the field with Jack.
