I just want to ask one question today and that is, should retrospective action be taken when VAR make such monumental mistakes as they did during yesterday’s Manchester derby?
It’s all very well having the panels come to their conclusion after a game or Howard Webb coming out with his usual old c**p but what good does it do as far as the game goes. Man Utd were denied a point which regardless of what you and I might think of them, they should have had. When I talk about retrospective active, I really do mean for the absolutely clear and obvious errors and not just random subjective calls during a game.
Offside is one law in the game which in my opinion can be proved beyond doubt by watching a replay. Everyone watching the derby yesterday afternoon could see that Man City’s goal should never have been allowed. The commentators knew, you and I knew and replays proved that at least one City player was offside including the goal scorer.
Results matter to every club in this league and not just the one you and I support. The two points City gained yesterday could in May, decide who wins the league and who qualifies for Europe. Yes, the latter is important because of the financial benefits European football awards to a club, especially the Champions League.
So, in your opinion, should football, in amongst all their petty law changes which don’t appear to be implemented across every game in the Premier League, is it not high time to retrospectively chalk off goals which have been proved to be offside? I think so…

Plus, there needs to be consequences for all these failings. Not just a slap on the wrist and move on. Such huge mistakes in the real world are dealt with quite differently.

The trouble is Rico, where do you draw the line, no pun intended, deduct the goal in a one nil win and and you change the result, which seems fair on the face of it. But what about in a two goal win, for instance? Only the goal difference is affected. So you have a two tier system.
The only sensible option is to scrap Var all together, while the whole thing is rebuilt from the start and the all parties are schooled in the laws and protocols. Refs, managers, players, pundits, commentators and the media hacks. The majority of the fans probably would understand the intricacies of the laws nor would they need to if they were confident that the officials new what they were doing.

Trouble now is the way that PGMOL interpret the rules . I read recently that they spent twice the time that Germany does to analyse VAR decisions.
One can’t help feeling that they see themselves as omnipotent and more important than the game itself.
Maybe it’s case for artificial intelligence , at least it won’t be as biased but I suppose it would be open to more corruption than we already have.
On the idea of retrospective goal cancellations the PGMOL would love it , they could all sit round a table and change results as they saw fit. Or at least how they would have been told to do.
