Is Coquelin doing what Henry did? Topping the ‘created’ list, but not converting…

Morning all.

Not a lot of news around really. There’s stories about Cavani and how he could become an Arsenal player any day soon but as we all know, what’s written and what’s factual are two very different things.

I’ve stolen these factoids from Lee’s comment this morning, I know he won’t mind….

Most chances created so far this season…

Cazorla 9
Ozil 9
Shelvey 9
Tadic 8
Albrighton 7
Kolarov 7
Silva 7

So we hit the dizzy heights for chances created and that’s just from two players but the disappointing factor is what our boys have done with them. Only two goals scored so far and one of those was an own goal.

Perhaps that’s why many Arsenal fans are crying out for a clinical striker, me, I’d love us to sign a winger/striker. Someone like Reyes or even Henry who was just that when he arrived at Arsenal. Arsene Wenger got his hands on him and the rest is history. Finding that kind of player is almost impossible, no, make that impossible as they’ll only ever be one Thierry Henry.

Theo Walcott is the closest we have to Henry but even he’s miles away from Frenchman and for some reason, he’s not even started our first two games and he didn’t even feature in the latest. But then at 2-1 up, Arsene Wenger had to shut up shop against a very attacking Crystal Palace side.

There’s less than two weeks now for Arsene Wenger to work some transfer magic and I think he will. He loves to leave things late. He can’t forget the midfield either, that’s key imo.

Staying with Thierry Henry, Francis Coquelin has been talking on the official site about the influence Henry had on French football fans and on him. He says Henry was the reason so many started to follow Arsenal.

  • The club’s record goalscorer celebrated his 38th birthday this week and remains close to a number of Arsène Wenger’s players.
  • Henry gave Coquelin the nickname ‘Colombo’, and the midfielder admits it is strange to be friends with one of his childhood idols.

When I was nine or 10, at Christmas I got the Arsenal shirt with my name on the back. It was because there were a lot of French players there and Thierry was one of them.

Even the people back in France who didn’t watch the Premier League back in the day – it is quite famous now – supported Arsenal because of the French core they had and Thierry was one of, if not the best player. So he made French people follow the club.

When I first saw him, it was like the feeling when I first came to Arsenal and saw all the big players here, it was something special. But I soon realised he is really straightforward and he’ll talk to you and give you advice.

It is nice to see that a star like him can be straightforward and you can talk to him and he’ll give you advice like that. I text him now, and have a laugh when I see him – if you had told me that 15 years ago I would have said, ‘Yeah alright!’”

Nice little story eh….

From a ten year old boy who followed the Arsenal because Arsene Wenger ‘went French’ – he bought in great players like Henry, Petit, Bobby, Paddy, even Grimandi and sold Arsenal to his home country.

Here we are, 14 years later and Francis Coquelin has become a household name. And I wonder if even more young French football fans feel the same about him, as he did our Arsenal core all those years ago…..

That’s the best I can come up with for today…..

Have a good one all…

Its not the amount in front of you which is essential. Its the the taste Rico.

And I enjoyed the taste even if its a short post.

Different than the everyday garbage we read on NN. no transfer news.

I really enjoyed it.

Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

I have seen the goal conceded by Cech on the opening day when everyone was saying he went for butterflies. And I have come to the conclusion that it all boiled down to lack of communication between Cech and the defence. The hammers knew that its early days between Cech and defence. So they put the ball in exactly the spot where its no man’s land and wehre its dangersous. Palace tried that tactics twice in their game and did not succeed.

So its not Cech to blame.

Coquelin??? Remember that early stages Henry could not hit a cow’s arse with a banjo. Same with Le Coq. He will get sent off yes. but that is learning curve for him. Yes, people who criticise him may be right for now. but he will grow into that role.

I would also like to point out that both the other goals conceded, by Zarate and by Ward were long range shots. Again, lack of communication and a drop in concentration by the defence were the key. Mark my words. Although I hate to loose, the opening day loss by the hammers might prove to be a blessing in disguise.

If communication improves as the season goes by, and defenders and midfielders commit themselves more and suffer less bouts of concentration lapses we will be up there.

And the forwards to convert their chances as well.

We’ll definitely need to up our conversation rate if we want to challenge, that’s a shed load of chances in two games! Come on Arsene get the cheque book out, you know it makes sense.

Wow..Mason has been repremarded for
not sending Coq off.
Lets get it right.
He got booked for what..
So what was so bad…
Was any player injuried..
Did he elbow anyone
Did he stud anyone
Did headbutt anyone
Did he draw blood
Did he poke anyone in the eye
What I see was fully committed player
obstructing and breaking up play
something that has had me spitting feathers
after visits to Stoke rugby ground year after
year.
Watching that little knob Pardew
effing waving his arms around,
has he forgot.the old
Glasgow Kiss on that player
as he trying to take a throw in.

Hi Rico, no need to panic yet, Alexis Santi and Aaron will start scoring soon, and like you I don’t know why Theo doesn’t start.
The Turds face a giant banana-skin tonight, I always support British teams in Europe but I don’t lose any sleep if they lose.

Morning All,

I quite enjoyed the way Bournmouth played against Liverpool. Good insight into what to expect and what our similar style can do against them.

Quite like the left FB Daniels. Nice for Wenger to keep an eye on to compete/replace Monreal in the future.

On long shots, I hope next week we don’t give Coutinho the space we offerred West Ham and Palace because I rate that boy and his rasping right foot.

Free, I’m convinced Mason realised he should never have given Coquelin the yellow card in the first place, so went soft the second time.

With all the crap spewed by the media About footballers when a good story comes up its strange how little coverage it gets. Alexis comes from the town of Topocillo in Chile which is suffering from terrible flooding and he has paid for 2 lorry loads of bottled water to be taken there. Good on him.

I thought last season that the word
The ref’s discression would be playing a part
from now on.
Funny when the camera’s pick an offence up,
the judges and juries turn round and say,
Ref dealt with that…………end of.

Daniels is 28 Brad. I would like AW to get in someone who is younger to replace Monreal. We already have Gibbs who is not playing simply because Monreal has established himself.

I have already said it many times…..Bellering and Gibbs together are a big NO NO. Both on the pitch as FB leave us exposed. Debuchy and Moinreal together hold us back.

But a combo of Debuchy and Gibbs works well. Debuchy stays back while Gibbs overlaps.

A combo of Bellerin and Monreal works well. Bellerin is more advanced while Monreal holds back.

The trident of Kos, Per and Le Coq work better when they have the right combo on the flanks.

This is what Bruce said about Akpom…..

..the Hull manager was forthcoming in his praise for the 19 year old.

“Chuba has a chance, doesn’t he? Wow!”

“He has a lot to do and a lot to learn, but, in terms of raw talent, you don’t have to watch him long to realise the natural ability that he has. Only a few are blessed with that.

“He has to learn and this league will teach him that. Had he scored, that would have been three in three for him. It’s been a wonderful start.

“He turns round and runs at defenders, that is when it is tough for the opposition. He has an outstanding chance because of his ability.”

I recall that I have said something similiar a few weeks back when he scored that hat-trick in pre season.

How many of you rate this line up???

Martinez
Bellerin, Gabriel, Chambers, Gibbs
Coquelin,
OX, Jack, Aaron, Theo
Akpom.

He’s a Wenger boy, that’s why. Alexis that is. He signs players who tend not to cheat and seem to have well developed moral consciences. Well done Sanchez a few more super rich players like him who have money to burn could and perhaps should make donations to the many ‘have nots’!

On transfers. I wonder if the Cavani stories may have some legs, as he does! We are short up front but perhaps only for one season. How does a loan sound? Buying him for the money he would cost seems a waste however, a loan would make much more sense. Benzema the same, that won’t happen. A N Other possibly bit who knows who that may be?

Otherwise I can’t see Gazidis getting the cheque book out again this window, I only.

I included Bellerin and Gibbs together simply because Gabriel and Chambers have speed in them. The combo Per and Kos has Per in it.

So I digress a bit. With Per in the CB position Bellerin and Gibbs together leave us exposed. But with Gabriel and Chambers in there I feel its ok to have them both as FB.

Keep it simple, for him that is a really succinct and wise motto!

Zelalem to Rangers.

I hope there is a recall paragraph in all these loanees moves. At this rate we won’t even have a squad of 20 leave alone 25, with or without the youngsters!

I’m sure it’s all good experience for the boys but when are they going to play at home instead of playing away all the time? And who is going to keep a watchful eye on the expensive, self- indulgent, extravagant and lonely boys as they ply their trade geographically miles away from their spiritual homes?

You can loan too many, you know! Or is this the opening scene of the ‘big’ signing in the wings? Clear the decks, lower the salary bill to pay for the ‘signing of the summer’ ???

Don’t hold your breath!

The lad we signed from West Ham last season, Ben Sheaf, has had a really good pre-season and start to the season…
Ryan Huddart has certainly improved and is looking to be a big talent.
Then there’s Chris Willock, Kaylen Hinds and Mavididi, all looking to push on into the U21’s and maybe beyond.
Could one or four of them be in and around a strong League Cup squad?

Iwobi, Bielik, Adelaide, O’Connor, Pleguezuelo, Bennacer and Kamara also, although Kamara had been strongly linked by Jeorge Bird with going out on loan as well…
