Morning all.
We now know that Ben White won’t take part in our last three fixture after picking up an injury against West Ham. Hopefully he’ll recover well and be back in an Arsenal shirt before Christmas. He was rumoured to be moving on this summer which if true, is now very unlikely.
Arsenal’s women played their final home fixture last night at The Emirates where fans gave Beth Mead a good send off. But for the woodwork, Beth would have bagged two goals, but it was a 93rd minute goal from Stina Blackstenius saw Arsenal beat Everton to go second in the WSL. Their final fixture is against Liverpool at Anfield.
The men have two league fixtures left which they need to win. Man City defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 last night which gives them a goals scored advantage over us but that will mean nothing if we win our last two.
The first of those two games is on Monday night against Burnley. Man City don’t play until Tuesday, a tricky fixture on the south coast against Bournemouth. Three days after playing Chelsea in the FA Cup Final. If ever I’ve wanted to see a strong, physical and bullish performance from the West London club, which I’m sure I have in the past, I’ll certainly be hoping for one against City.
Monday’s game is our last home game of the season and I’m pretty sure The Emirates will be rocking. No nerves I hope just 100% support for the team. There’s been a few occasions when it’s been tense, quiet but Monday won’t be another. Well, that is unless something goes horribly wrong which really doesn’t bear thinking about.
If Arsenal can beat Burnley on Monday night, all eyes will be on Tuesdays fixture. Bournemouth, who rocked up to The Emirates on the 11th April and beat us 2-1 will I hope, be up for the battle with Guardiola’s side. Not to help us of course but for their own benefit.
Two things could happen for Bournemouth as European football goes. Villa could mess up in their final two fixtures allowing the south coast club to nick 5th spot and a place in the Champions League next season or Bournemouth themselves could drop into 7th place if the Sussex club overtake them. Manager Andoni Iraola has already confirmed he’ll be leaving Bournemouth at the end of the month but what an achievement it would be for him to leave the club knowing it’ll be competing in Europe next season. It’ll be interesting to see what his next move is, Chelsea is my guess.
At the other end of the table, the biggest battle is between Totts and West Ham for survival. Nuno’s side face Newcastle Utd this weekend whilst Totts go to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. I’ve a feeling the final relegation place will go down to the final day of fixtures. Come on you Irons…
Is it just me or does Monday feel like it’s weeks away?
Catch up later..
