Morning all,

This is not about Theo Walcott’s contract situation, it’s been done to death by everyone I think.

Today is about what if he does go, does he really need to be replaced, and I mean by signing another player?

Many cynical fans chose to believe that Walcott is only after more money but the player himself has said on more than oneΒ occasion that that is not true, it’s about where he plays on the pitch and until now, there is little to suggest he isn’t telling the truth.

Between now and the end of December we will all know whether he is going to get his wish to play central, should he not, I strongly suspect he will be sold in January and then Arsene Wenger has to make thatΒ decisionΒ about whether he needs to replaced and if so, with who?

The same could be asked if Theo does get his wish and he gets to play centrally week in week out, would we need to sign a replacement or do we have enough cover already at the club?

Which takes me nicely onto the rumour doing the rounds yesterday about Adrian Lopez. Lopez is 24 years old, he’s a 5′ 11″ winger/striker from Spain who is currently contracted to Atletico Madrid until 2015!

Last season, his first in Madrid, he scored 19 goals in 55Β appearances, which is roughly one goal every three games and those goals came from playing out on the wing. Ok, those stats are better than Theo Walcotts but he’s a year more experienced than our man, and, he is playing in a league which really isn’t the strongest is it?

If it was, Messi and Ronaldo wouldn’t score as many as they do, that’s for sure.

Is it worth selling Walcott for a pittance, fork out Β£15+ Million for Lopez and then probably pay him more than we do our Englishman?

My answer to that would be no.

As said, Lopez is 24 years old, he could/should have 6-8 years in him at the very top, what would a player like him signing say to those already at the club, someone like Serge Gnabry for instance?

Surely if we have money to spend and Arsene Wenger is ready to spend it in January, other areas in our squad need addressing before we start signing a striker who can play on the wing, or a winger who can play as a striker.

How about a defensive midfielder or a goal machine?

I’ll finish on the injury news: Gibbs and Walcott are both ruled out for tomorrows game, they will probably miss the Capital One fixture in midweek too but should be back for next weekends tasty little fixture against QPR! Rosicky and Diaby are still ‘weeks’ away from a return.

No doubt those weeks will turn into months……

That’s it for another day, tomorrow the proper football returns….

Have a good one…
