Injuries start to mount! Adrian Lopez? Why when we have Theo Walcott & Serge Gnabry!!

Morning all,

This is not about Theo Walcott’s contract situation, it’s been done to death by everyone I think.

Today is about what if he does go, does he really need to be replaced, and I mean by signing another player?

Many cynical fans chose to believe that Walcott is only after more money but the player himself has said on more than one occasion that that is not true, it’s about where he plays on the pitch and until now, there is little to suggest he isn’t telling the truth.

Between now and the end of December we will all know whether he is going to get his wish to play central, should he not, I strongly suspect he will be sold in January and then Arsene Wenger has to make that decision about whether he needs to replaced and if so, with who?

The same could be asked if Theo does get his wish and he gets to play centrally week in week out, would we need to sign a replacement or do we have enough cover already at the club?

Which takes me nicely onto the rumour doing the rounds yesterday about Adrian Lopez. Lopez is 24 years old, he’s a 5′ 11″ winger/striker from Spain who is currently contracted to Atletico Madrid until 2015!

Last season, his first in Madrid, he scored 19 goals in 55 appearances, which is roughly one goal every three games and those goals came from playing out on the wing. Ok, those stats are better than Theo Walcotts but he’s a year more experienced than our man, and, he is playing in a league which really isn’t the strongest is it?

If it was, Messi and Ronaldo wouldn’t score as many as they do, that’s for sure.

Is it worth selling Walcott for a pittance, fork out £15+ Million for Lopez and then probably pay him more than we do our Englishman?

My answer to that would be no.

As said, Lopez is 24 years old, he could/should have 6-8 years in him at the very top, what would a player like him signing say to those already at the club, someone like Serge Gnabry for instance?

Surely if we have money to spend and Arsene Wenger is ready to spend it in January, other areas in our squad need addressing before we start signing a striker who can play on the wing, or a winger who can play as a striker.

How about a defensive midfielder or a goal machine?

I’ll finish on the injury news: Gibbs and Walcott are both ruled out for tomorrows game, they will probably miss the Capital One fixture in midweek too but should be back for next weekends tasty little fixture against QPR! Rosicky and Diaby are still ‘weeks’ away from a return.

No doubt those weeks will turn into months……

That’s it for another day, tomorrow the proper football returns….

Have a good one…

    Good morning,

    First …?

Rico you are on form with this post. This post is as flashy as Gervinho’s forehead – that is a compliment by the way. 😀

    Super analysis on A-Lopez.

  2. Nigel Tufnel says:

yes Rico, this Rosicky situation is getting annoying, Santi will need rest eventually. and i really want to take it slowly with Jack. he’s too special to risk rushing. also worried about Szczesny.
—- I’m curious how Theo might do as a striker, but i ‘m afraid it’s too late.. he’s going to go, and can claim it wasn’t about the money, (as vP did). BUT, if the Adrian thing is true, and he can play the wing/striker, I think he would be a great improvement over Walcott from the little bit i’ve seen and heard,,,. there will be opportunities to work our young players in eventually– Gervinho to africa cup, Pod will need rest and not too young..and Ox’s future is more in midfield.. but i still love the idea of Huntelaar if we are making wish lists. that’s a goal machine.there aren’t too many available.

  3. rico says:

    Morning Tsgh and all…

Thanks tsgh – maybe I’ll need to think about Gerv’s forehead 😉

I want a goal machine, or a DM, or even another defender like Sakho or Mbiwa, long before another winger/striker. Just as you said yesterday, just as well keep Theo…

Gnabry will eventually be the right sided wide player, and hopefully that will mean TW will have been tried and tested centrally

  4. rico says:

    Hi Nt,

Rosicky and Diaby both frustrate me, maybe if neither are back until January, then I know what I would do…

TW – well, I am confident he would be a great striker, but I have done that to death so I’m keeping quiet today and until he goes, I have hope that he stays…

  5. N7 says:

Have you seen what Lopez can do? He attacks the goal from wide with power and guile, scoring with relish – he’s doing, right now, what we all hoped Theo would be doing.

  6. rico says:

N7, just think there are other areas we need to be sorting before we look at a player like him, but that’s just my own opinion..

  7. East Stand Alex says:

The difference is: all of Walcott’s career so far shows that he is unlikely to be effective as a central striker. He is only good at one of the elements it takes to be a successful goal machine.

Adrian is a central striker. He has scored goals in good competitions from there. He just plays on the wing as he is ousted from the centre by one of the very best goal machines. To be fair Adrian isn’t that successful, most of his goals were in the Europa league.

But keeping Walcott as a striker is a non-starter for me. As a wide forward, fine. Especially as an impact sub. But it’s not that big a deal. He may be our best sub, but he’s not good enough for a first team that needs to develop into consistent winners.

For that an additional goal machine would be best. Our midfield is playing well, so the other positions you mention only need back up players, if any are needed at all, not superstars.

Maybe Adrian would be good, but I’d prefer we save up a bit more and throw all our cash, plus players, at Napoli for Cavani. I think he would be our perfect striker.

Lastly: Ronaldo scored 40+ goals in our super-strong league (30+ in the actual league) when he was motivated, and that was before he even reached his peak. Cazorla doesn’t seem overly rushed after his la liga switch; nor did Mata, Silva, Toure, Aguero…

  8. rico says:

Welcome ESA, until he plays there, we don’t know, we are just guessing…

We have the cash to sign players like Cavani, but would we able to compete with clubs like City or Chelsea who are bound to soon be interested him. He scored against both clubs last season I think….

  9. TsGH says:

I am surprised about Gibbo’s injury. I initially thought he will he ready for tomorrow. 😉

re. A-Lopex I am always sceptical of young spanish players who are not hungry to prove a point moving to England. When you look at the history of spanish players they all mostly prefer to play back home. Gaizka Mendieta was a world class player until he went to Lazio and his career nose dived all the way to Middlesbrough. Reyes is another example.

You may disagree and ask what about Mata, MA08 and SC19, my answer is that they were not wanted by the big 2 clubs in their country. Alonso and Cesc did well here but went back when their ‘DNA clubs’ called.

So I agree with Rico if we are going to buy in January I would prefer German or EPL players only.

  10. TsGH says:

N7- youtube videos are deceptive my mate…

Compare this 2 videos for yourself

If I had never seen theo play I will say he is a better player but we all know he can be frustrating as Diaby’s chicken legs. 😀

  11. rico says:

Tsgh – I nearly added in the post that he could be another Reyes, if we are signing Spanish players, I too would much rather 26+, players who are looking to end their career with us, not as a stepping stone to a bigger salary…

  12. Scott from Oz says:

Theo should be played a little deeper, and running off Girouds shoulder.
Yes,i wouldn’t mind to see him given a chance up front, but as much to shut him up and get his head back to playing where his manage thinks he is best, but if he did happen to succeed, then fine.
Even playing off Girouds shoulder,Theo would still need to learn and improve certain aspects of his game.
Yes,i’d be rapt to keep him,but if he left and Huntelaar came in to replace him in our squad, sorry, but i wouldn’t be disappointed, and i doubt many would.

  13. TsGH says:

Scott good point on Theo. Personally, if I was AW I would go for Bent in January. Don’t shoot me yet. :D.

Based on our performances this last 6 years I will say only an EPL player will add something to our game. I know he is not playing for AV but he has still scored 20 goals in 45 matches and has the same amount of goals as ‘you know who’ in the EPL playing for teams such as Ipswich, Charlton, sunderland and the spuddies…

  14. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Morning all.

I’d not be disappointed if Theo packed his bags and did one tomorrow. But, hey… that’s just me! Do we not already have a potential goal machine in Podolski, if he’s played solely through the middle? I think so. Personally, after talking with Lee, AK and Adam on Tuesday night over a feast of grilled meats, I agree with Lee that our GK situation is embarrassing. THAT’s where we need to spend our money.

  15. TsGH says:

Rico- you know I love Capoue and can’t stand M’villa….M’villa was good when he was 18/19 and has not improved (Denilson)

I was referring to the striker position ie huntelaar (Hamburg) or a Ba or Bent (EPL)

I know Ba will be at the AFCON but senegal will not be going far so he will be back before end of Feb if we signed him…

  16. rico says:

I realised tsgh, but have to get Capoues name in there when I can…

    I wouldn’t mind Reus, I know he’s young but…..

  17. dgoon4 says:

Ronaldo and Messi would score that many goals in any league they played in. Head and shoulders above any one anywhere.
Huntelaar isn’t the answer to our prayers. Wenger doesn’t rate him and we have Giroud. We need something different to what we already have, a Hernandez or a Falcao (dream land). Trust in Wenger he will get the right men in. Theo could surprise everyone and actually stay…unless he’s a very good actor and fooling everyone. It would be a real shame as his best is just around the corner but it won’t be from anywhere other than out wide. The penny has dropped and he knows what we need for that final stretch.

More worried about the keeper situation

  18. devilgunner says:

Good Morning my Esteemed Fellow Gunners.

    Good post Rico.

But though I still think its about money regarding Theo, I am not a cynic. More sceptical sort of.

Bdw……….you know who was spotted with some other dutch and romanian players with some escorts going in a house. What happened in there is anyone’s guess, but they were happily cavorting and wandering outside.

  19. Adam says:

Hi Rocky. Bang on with the goalkeepers. It is utterly ridiculous where we find ourselves in this regard. Personally I would like to keep Theo and play him through the middle but starting from a wide position. He’s not a winger as he makes the wrong choice too often when he plays wide, up and down the pitch. Surely the best way to employ him is to have players that can slide balls inside the opposition for him to run onto, rather like Giroud did against West Ham. Once he has a yard on a turning defender, very few can catch him. He frightens the opposition. No for me on Huntelaar. He does little work for the team and has never really been a success anywhere despite having played at many clubs none of whom ever want to keep him. Surely Arsenal should be looking to use Theo’s best years rather than let someone else do it.

  20. rico says:

Morning rocky, couldn’t agree more re the GK situation, this is one area where AW truly let’s himself down in my opinion….

Have we had a great keeper since Seaman left?

    I don’t think so…..

  21. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Morning Rico/Adam

I still rate Lehmann highly, even if he was clearly a mentalist. Not as good as Seaman, but I’d have him back tomorrow!

  22. Adam says:

Rocky. Agreed. I think you and I can attest to the fact that Lee’s summation of our players the other evening was succinct and to the point. 🙂

  23. rico says:

    Morning devil…

Just watch AW i/v – for all the stick he gets, he is the only manager who is switched on enough to answer the ‘kick racism out of football question’.

Fergie had a ran about Jason Roberts not wearing his shirt with the logo on tomorrow, even though both Ferdinands have suggested they won’t be wearing one.

AW went onto say it’s not just black versus white, it goes deeper. Look at some of the faces on the people around the grounds, and listen to what they chant. It’s scary he said, and all because some people to fit into their ‘group’..

How right is he, and he has been on the end of such vile chants since the day he walked into AFC…..

  24. rockyrocastle07 says:

Haha!! Yeah, I think it was pretty clear by the end of the night what he thought of a few of them Adam! One word in particular summed them all up in a nutshell!!

  25. TsGH says:

Rico- which Seaman? Pre 1998 yes post 1999 he was only played because TA and the famous back 4 minus Keown wanted in there instead of Manninger.

If one of our current goalies did this the media will be having a field day…

Happy 10th anniversary today for that goal. a very painful day in my opinion…

The crazy german was much better in my opinion.

  26. rockyrocastle07 says:

Regarding RvP – Dev’s story seems a million miles away from when AW said “it didn’t matter what time of day you called, you knew he’s be at home”. Fergie can probably say the same, but replace the wors “home” with “local brass-house”…..

  27. rico says:

Lehman was certainly head and shoulders above anyone we have had since, but he used to naff me off with his silliness…

I’d rather Manninger than who we have now too devil…

Unless we sign an older, experienced keeper, or someone a lot better than any of who we have now, none will improve imho…

  28. Scott from Oz says:

Szczesny will end up our best ever keeper.
He is a baby, yet people seem to forget that a keeper isn’t at his peak til the late 20’s.
Yes,we need a Schwarzer, but stop carrying on as if we lack quality.
    We do not.
We lack depth, and that is a massive difference.
Isn’t that the same issue we have faced over the entire squad of recent seasons though??

  29. rockyrocastle07 says:

No need to apologise to us Lee! That and teh excellent rhyming slang used added to a very enjoyable evening (Wilson’s and Khyber were particular favourites!!) I am, however, amazed no-one in the restaurant mentioned anything to us about it all!!

  30. rico says:

I know in his latter years with us Seaman made some howlers but.. nowhere near as many as todays keepers in an arsenal shirt make on a regular basis…

A great keeper can win 6-10 points a season, ours have given away more points than that a season 😉

Morning Lee…have you been berating our players, how could you 😉

  31. rockyrocastle07 says:

We do lack quality Scott. That’s EXACTLY what we lack! Chezzer doesn’t have it yet. I agree, he will, but it’s a position where you can’t afford to gamble. Fabianski lacks quality. Mannone lacks quality. Schwartzer certainly won’t cut the mustard. We need to aim higher than that!

  32. rico says:

Ches is not playing though Scott, he is injured, 3-4 weeks away from a return.

Mannone, Martinez and Shea are our current keepers, and in a few weeks we play Manchester United….. Deep joy!

Fabianski looks as if he is out for the foreseeable future

Koscielny is out of the squad for tomorrow…

  33. rico says:

Welcome dgoon4… I am not sure either would relish a trip to Stoke etc on a freezing cold afternoon in winter…

  34. Scott from Oz says:

My wife has enrolled Sean in the “International school of football”…….a grand title,no doubt, but after my first viewing today,a bloody impressive set up to go with it.
It involves fully accredited professional coaches training small gropus of various ages.
This is the groups third term this year, but Seans first day was today.
The coach told me he held his own no problems, which was surprising first day out,but i was a little more excited after being told it’s one of the strongest groups they’ve had in this age group.
The group running it are opening a football school next year, where kids do the full school curriculum, but with 2 hours football training each day.
    The dream must go on!!!

  35. Lee says:

    I’m giving up Adam….. 😆
If chezzer was half as good as he thinks he is we’d be ok….I still think he’ll come good BUT he needs a seasoned keeper to learn off!

  36. tsGH says:

I agree but the keeper situation did not help with Squid and that stupid high defensive line in front of them.

Seaman had better defenders infront of him…

Our defence seems better than the past 4-5 years.

Its funny how Drogba could score and out-muscle Toure when he was with us but drogba couldn’t do the same against Toure against $hitty even though he has passed it..

  37. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky,Szczesny lacks experience…again,a different thing to quality.
How does he get it….not sitting on the bench watching!
If we bring in a top class keeper, say goodbye to Szczesny.
Rico,i know Szczesny isn’t playing, and thats why i said we lack quality…..none of us want Mannone as next best.

  38. tsGH says:

Reus can’t move to arsenal this year because of UEFA rules and like Ozil he chose to go somewhere else even when a bid was made…

  39. Scott from Oz says:

Tsgh, not only the back 4 are better, the entire side defend from the front, and that is a massive difference to recent years.

  40. Adam says:

Neuer fits the bill Rico but I doubt we could buy him for many different reasons. Vorm or perhaps Al Habsi (Rocky’s choice) could be attainable. Always encourage competition and let the cream rise to the surface. As we did with Squillster, unfortunately he sunk to the bottom. But I still rate him. 🙂

  41. rico says:

Ghana are ready to call Frimpong up for the ACON’s in Jan, jeepers, he’s not even played for the first team yet this season….

  42. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners.
    Good post Rico.

    Not about money eh?
Ok, promise to play Theo thru the middle but only if he accepts a pay-‘cut’…….!!!
    Think he’ll take that offer???

  43. Scott from Oz says:

Lee,i wonder if our young guys get treated too softly as teenagers.
Is the training too focused on the “Arsenal way”, ignoring the physical aspect of building tough professional footballers??
    Just a thought.

  44. rockyrocastle07 says:

Scott, he really does lack quality. Sorry, but he does. He has potential, no doubt about it. But at the moment, the quality just isn’t there. He gets it by working his arse off in whatever environment he’s in, working with qualty people. He trains day in/day out with the current crop of keepers. He must look at them and think “wel let’s face it, I’m never going to get dropped for any of these bums”. I know I would. He needs someone to push him. Joe Hart didn’t have much experience when he started for City. Look at the difference between the 2! Hart is streets ahead of Chezzer.

  45. devilgunner says:

    allezkev says:
    ……………………..Not about money eh?
Ok, promise to play Theo thru the middle but only if he accepts a pay-’cut’…….!!!
    Think he’ll take that offer???

    Great statement habib.

How are you?? I missed you mate.

  46. Scott from Oz says:

Devil, his mum is more excited than me tonight.
Of course,it’s one thing dominating against average kids, but when he can do so well against the best around, even she realised the kid can play lol.
I’m really not getting carried away…honestly lol….but he is will be given every chance.
Little bugger gets home and heads straight out the backyard kicking the all around!!

  47. rico says:

I would be happy with either of those or even Tim Krul. If Newcastle have a shocking season, he might want to move on…

  48. rockyrocastle07 says:

Thisg is, Where would Chezzer go if he left us?! I love the guy, and I know he is Arsenal through and through. Trust me, I’m rooting for the guy to be the best we’ve ever had. But at the moment, for every phenomenal save he makes, he’s got a howler is his locker, ready to burst out.

  49. Scott from Oz says:

Hart is also 3 years older than Szczesny….that is a fair old difference for a keeper.
I agree he needs competition,i agree with everything else you say,but the quality is there, imo.

  50. Scott from Oz says:

    I can’t see a Krul,Vorm or the like coming.
Young but already established, wold they wish to come and fight for their spot?
    Maybe,maybe not.

  51. rockyrocastle07 says:

Fair do’s Scott. I guess one man’s quality (or lack of) is the other person’s experience (or lack of). Guess on this we’ll have to agree to disagree. In the end, we both want him to be the best!

Hart was amazing as soon as he burst on the scene though… And continues to be so.

  52. Adam says:

That’s true Rocky. The best goalkeepers make the great saves but have a consistent air of solidity about them that spreads confidence through the team – and the fans.

  53. rico says:

Would they really have much to fight for Scott, if we signed one of them it it for one reason only, and that’s to take the number 1 shirt…

  54. rockyrocastle07 says:

I’d LOVE Al Habsi. Although I think he has already passed up our offer because he wanted to be guaranteed no. 1

  55. rico says:

🙂 tsgh, but surely he is better than Mannone, Ben Foster is another one, think he’s having a better time between the sticks these days…

  56. rockyrocastle07 says:

I do think Chezzer is better than Vorm. And at least on par with Krul. Neither would be a step up for me.

  57. Scott from Oz says:

Adam,i agree, and not once have i suggested Szczesny is a finished article…he is far,far from it.
I do think though that he other players would have more confidence looking back at him than they would Vito.
A one off maybe, but what the hell was Hart doing midweek??
That made Vito and Fabianski look truly world class!

  58. allezkev says:

Rico, 10.23; I agree on the age thing.
Llorente is 27, he won’t be looking to go elsewhere!

    Adam, you on the waterfront?

  59. rockyrocastle07 says:

Exactly Adam. But I guess they are just thinking of their own career/livlihood. To be honest, it makes a refreshing change from the Wayne Bridge’s of the world who sign new megabucks deals when they know they are bench-fodder, and nothing more.

  60. Scott from Oz says:

Look two or three years down the track.
Surely nobody could suggest Vorm or Krul will be better than Szczesny then.
If we do get a new keeper in,he needs to be an older, more experienced guy to mentor Szczesny,Martinez etc, etc, etc.
What is the point of ringing in another decent keeper?
Get either a world class guy…won’t happen….or someone with a iew to the future…..a teacher.

  61. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky,i wasn’t using that as an example of Harts keeping though…he is pure brilliance, but boy,it was a cracker lol.

  62. rockyrocastle07 says:

I know Scott, don’t worry! Everyone in England was probably thinking “what the fuck was that, you knob?” (maybe Rico was thinking it in slightly less colourful language….)

  63. rico says:

Have to admire Joe Hart, his mistake cost England, but straight out in front of the cameras, apologised to the fans and move on…

  64. tsGH says:

Every goalie makes mistakes and Neuer is no exception. Is he better than Scez I will say no but ….

Neuer also only got his chance because robert enke passed away…

It seems Scez’s poor showing at the euro’s has made him unpopular with the fans but he is made to be a No.1. Even Bob wilson said so when scez was 17

  65. Adam says:

Llorente is a far more interesting proposition for me. He is a big leader of the line with good feet. Just can’t see Wenger going for him as we have Giroud and think he would prefer a more versatile player. Lopez or Soldado maybe.

  66. rockyrocastle07 says:

Yeah, Hart always tells it like it is. Then his douchebag of a manager Mankini has a pop at him for daring to talk. He’s a good lad. Don’t actually know of anyone that doesn’t like him.

  67. tsGH says:

M’Villa now playing for under u-21s

The Stade Rennais man has got himself in trouble once again after going to a nightclub before Les Bleuets playoff game against Norway

Reports in French media claim that France international, Yann M’Vila, Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann, Wissam Ben Yedder, Chris Mavinga and Mbaye Niang will be sanctioned by the France Football Federation for an un-called for night out ahead of France Under-21 team’s Euro 2013 playoff game against Norway.

France eventually lost the game 6-3 on aggregate and Erick Mombaerts’ charges are now caught up in another problem following the aforementioned disciplinary breach.

And, the French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed that it will take action against the offenders for enjoying an unauthorised night out in Paris.

“In derogation from the strict rules that are in force within the national teams, several players took the initiative to leave the group for a night out,” read a statement on FFF’s website.

Reports claim that the aforementioned players travelled from the team’s training base at Normandy to Paris by a taxi and did not report until dawn.

However, it still remains to be seen what sort of sanctions could these players face. However, one can already imagine some leniency shown by the federation after FFF President, Noel Le Graet’s recent statements.

“What do you want me to do? Exclude Les Bleus definitely? No,” said the FFF supremo who will indeed be very angry to see the youth team coming under spotlight they could have done without.

However, it appears that all offenders, except for Yann M’Vila might get away with a one-game ban and a strong ticking off. The same cannot be said of the Stade Rennais man whose antics at the Euros earlier this summer (leaving the field without shaking Laurent Blanc or Olivier Giroud’s hand) have seen him still waiting to play for Didier Deschamps’ side.

To make matters worse, Yann M’Vila’s latest shenanigans have not impressed Stade Rennais general manager, Pierre Dreossi who will also have a word with Chris Mavinga. While talking to reporters on Thursday, the Breton club’s supremo was visibly angry at his player’s behaviour and claimed that the club will not let the incident slip.

“This can’t be tolerated. We mustn’t let this go,” said Dreossi before saying that he will meet with both M’Vila and Mavinga in order to “get an honest explanation because this is a lack of respect for football, for the team and also for Rennais.”

  68. rockyrocastle07 says:

I don’t think Neuer is all that. Good, yes. Amazing? Not for me. Better than Chesney? At the moment, yes. But Chesney will pass him in a season or 2, provided he works his arse off and stops believing his own hype.

  69. Scott from Oz says:

A great call by Wenger on M’Villa then??
Most wanted im,plenty bagged Wenger for not signing him.
    Once again,he is proven correct.

  70. rockyrocastle07 says:

I’ve only ever seen the guy in one match, and had no opionion on him either way. Sounds like he’s a bit of a cock though. Glad we didn’t get him, as that means Arteta has been able to flourish!

  71. tsGH says:

Scott. I know some here disagreed with me on my post when I said M’villa was like Denilson. But how many people had seen him play?

It was the same last year with everyone having a pop at AW for not signing Scott Parker instead of Arteta but where are those comments now.

when it comes to signing midfielders 7 strikers 9/10 times AW is right.. Central defenders and goalies that requires a page…:D

  72. rico says:

I’m sure M’Vila was on his way, until the issues with the french camp and his arrest.

What a twit he is, could be a great football, but obviously has a few issues….

    I always wanted Capoue anyway 😉 😉

  73. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky,he seems to have all the ability in the world, but not a brain in is head.
Who’d have thought we would see Arteta playing how he is…..he has just run with the positinal change, and proven just what a great footballer he is.

  74. rico says:

Tsgh – a guy who was posting here last summer said that Scott Parker failed a medical with us……….

Wish we had signed Arteta a few years before we did….

  75. Scott from Oz says:

I think most had seen little snippets of him TSGH,but had also listened to several well respected pundits opinions of the guy….on face value,he did seem to be exactly what we needed at he time.
Parker never excited me one bit.
Having said that,i never realised Just how good Arteta was.

  76. rockyrocastle07 says:

Agreed Scott, Arteta has really shocked me at how well he has done the job. He was clearly a great player, and obviously an intelligent player, but not everyone can adapt as well as he.

  77. devilgunner says:

Scott that is what makes the difference between a FOOTBALLER and a PLAYER. The former can adapt and play in any position. The latter can only run all day in one position or maximum of two.

Arteta is a FOOTBALLER. Like Cesc, Cazorla, Podolski, Koscielny, and yes ………….. I dare say that even Jenkinson will one day fall into that type of person.

  78. allezkev says:

Adam, I am up in the Smoke until Monday evening…

Coach, I am good Habib, thanks, you and yours are tajjeb I trust?

The rest of my CD’s arrived today Rico/Adam.
Ordered Mon’ evening, only 4+ days.
Amazon are very very good indeed.

    Gibbo out!
That is a blow. Santos to play then.
What is wrong with Kozzer? Miquel on the bench for me!

  79. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky, when Wenger told him about it,he just accepted it and went on with the job….that is a professional footballer, right there.

  80. devilgunner says:

Ahhhhhhhh I’ve seen NN just now.

Provisional Squad: Mannone, Santos, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Cazorla, Arteta, Ramsey, Gervinho, Podolski, Giroud, Martinez, Coquelin, Djourou, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin, Chamakh, Frimpong.

  81. Scott from Oz says:

Just read Jack will be back next week.
He is 80% fit, feeling absolutely no ill effects from the games he has played, but Wenger is doing what we all want…taking his time.

  82. tsGH says:

M’villa was very good at 18/19 years but has gone backwards since…I work with someone who lives in France and supports the Stade Rennais team and commutes every weekend to see them.

Rico we did not bid for M Villa last season. We enquired and he told us we should wait until after the Euro’s. We did the year before for 13m during the supermarket sweep and he said he wanted to stay one more season. AW said on TF1 and grimandi said likewise…

Desaily does something with him (some sort of agent maybe) and because of his Chelsea link MVilla always preferred Chelsea. likewise because3 of his links with Vieira he thought $hitty will come for him but he has been average this last 1.5 years.

Scott parker came to meet AW and Rowley (our chief scout) I dont think he had a medical; based on what someone’s twin brother said to his twin. Parlour even said AW dragged his feet waiting for the final push but AW was at the time waiting on the Hazard deal I mentioned sometime ago and when Parker found out he signed for spuds….

Rowley verbal agreed on the fee of 5m with WHU but AW never fancied him because he cant keep a ball and his age etc…

  83. rico says:

Good news re the CD’s Ak…

Not sure what is wrong with Kos, AW said earlier he is out, bet its after the injury with france….

  84. devilgunner says:

    TsGH……very revealing mate.

Explains a lot of long standing issues.

But I did point out that Capoue was and is still better than M’Vila.

  85. rico says:

If that squad can’t beat Norwich devil, we really are in trouble 😉

What i meant tsgh is that i am sure he could have been on his way to us but…..

  86. rockyrocastle07 says:

Maybe he’s resting Kozzer to get a bit of confidence back. Certainly not been at his best lately. My boy the BFG is certainly the first name on the sheet at the mo when it comes to CB’s. Rightly so.

  87. allezkev says:

As far as Lee’s linguingistic’s is concerned, he is pure Ball’s Pond Road N16 me old cock sparrow…
Thank God for the spellchecker 😀

  88. rockyrocastle07 says:

That’s a pretty decent squad really. You know I’m not enthused about either Gerv or Rambo, but they are decent squad players. We should decimate them tomorrow,. Their defending is woeful.

  89. rico says:

goal.com revealed: How Arsenal nearly pulled plug on Giroud deal to sign Adrian in summer

Arsene Wenger is poised to move again for the Atletico Madrid star in January after failing in a bid to land him while Robin van Persie was still at Emirates Stadium

Where do they get their stories from, Mars?

  90. rico says:

I was ready to write Merts off last season but my word, he is pretty darn good this season… Should have had more faith in the German international….

  91. rockyrocastle07 says:

I knew my faith in him wouldn’t be wasted Rico! I love the guy! Seems like he loves being here, and knows what it means to play for us.

  92. Scott from Oz says:

Just read we have submitted a formal bid of 20 million for Adrian, even though he has a buyout clause of 14.6??

  93. tsGH says:

Not if you factor in Tomas Danilevicius, Bischoff, Jeffers and Diawara may it drops to 7/10 Rico

Red Nose is worse with Veron 28m and Djemba-Djemba. 😉

  94. rockyrocastle07 says:

Can’t see it Rico! Seriously, the guy should put you on his payroll, considering the amount of positive press you give the boy!

  95. rockyrocastle07 says:

TsGH – You forget Aliadiere, Wreh, Boa Morte, Diawara, Suker & Lupoli!! All turned out to be real shit-bombs!

  96. allezkev says:

    Rocky, let’s just win mate…
Decimate would be nice, but 3pts does it for me.

Arteta is our def/mid, as me and Rocky discussed Weds.
    Tell ’em Rock…

  97. rockyrocastle07 says:

Too right mate…. Who needs anyone else when we have Arteta patrilling the back 4? The guy’s dynamite.

  98. Scott from Oz says:

    I don’t know Rico.
Why the hell would we offer more than his buyout clause, and a formal offer now??
    It doesn’t add up.

  99. allezkev says:

Of course you’re correct Rock, re: Lee.
But he wouldn’t be outta place down down Newington Green Rd.
    God’s country…

  100. rockyrocastle07 says:

Not sure. Think Wath was there the other day when he should have been out with us! Wouldn;t mind giving it a bash if it’s any good

  101. JW says:

    Good afternoon all,

Had a nice three mile walk this morning, finished it off with a hot chocolate instead of a pint, still at least life goes on.

Read and enjoyed the post Rico, as well as the comments. I think it’s all been said so I will keep my powder dry for another day.

Don’t forget it POETS day today.

    (Piss Off Early Tomorrow’s Saturday)

  102. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Hi JW

Hot chocolate sounds amazing right now. Unfortunately, POETS day is truly lost in my department! That would only mean facing a mountain of work on Monday, and no-one wants that!

  103. rockyrocastle07 says:

holy f*cking shitsnacks. 500 covers? Balls to working in that kitchen. They do take-aways too! Saturday night must be shocking working there!!

  104. emma says:

Hi rico, rocky, ak and all gunnersphere
Glad to be back miss you all. I have being away on holiday.
Miss my arsenal as well 😉
    COYGs !!!

  105. rockyrocastle07 says:

Just seen on the website the Stoke Newington restaurant (the newest of their restaurants) is only a mere 250 covers. 250!! They will probably turn them at least 3 times on a Saturday evening!!

  106. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Hi Emma. Been anywhere nice?

This is only my second or third appearence in about a month! Good to be back!!

  107. rockyrocastle07 says:

Getting back to the post (mighty fine one it was too, by the way….) Is Gnabry any good? How close do people think he and even Eisfeld are away from breaking into the first team squad?

  108. allezkev says:

Sorry Rocky, trying to fit in a bit of work out ‘ere mate 😀
Yes N16, my Manor, and N1 border each other…

Arteta, as Coach so rightly stated, is a footballer.
He doesn’t need to charge around making bone-crunching tackles.
He reads his opponant and just nicks the ball at the optimum moment. A bit like Makalele.
With his currant style, I can see him prolonging his career and could still be doing a similar job for us when he is 35/36.
Capoue would still be a great signing all the same, even though i’d like to see what Frimmers has to offer first.

  109. emma says:

So much hype about Gnabry but not sure he would get to play alot this season. I think he is the closest to breaking into the first team of all the junior players we have. Wont be surprise if he is on the bench v Norwish since Walcott is injured

  110. tsGH says:

was it 17m Frederic de Saint-Serni wanted for him 2 months ago? The way things are going he should have sold M’Villa to the spuddies for 13m plus the add-ons. : D

  111. tsGH says:

The anti-Arsene slogan is going to be rolled out as a result of Wengers responds to Pearce’s call for JW10 to play for the U-21’s.

I thought the under-21 squads were considered as a stepping stone to the senior squad. A way for young players to showcase what they can offer at international level in the hope they earn a call-up to the senior squad. I guess not for Arsenal players

  112. tsGH says:

Wasn’t it the same with TW14 in 2009 when he went with the u-21. I think he injured his shoulder and was out for several months at a stage in his career when he should have been developing either by training daily or playing weekly?

  113. devilgunner says:

Hey Rocky……who the hell do you think you are calling Diawara a shit bomb??? He managed to hit the left post a million times in his few minute appearances and also managed to stand in the way of a shot which was going in?? A guy like that cant be compared to a shit bomb.

Dont you have a care for shit bombs??? 😆

  114. W.A.T.H says:

    Afternoon All,
Nice to see JW10 back, chuffed for him although Pearce can go do one……..!

Rocky, Yum Yums is very good BUT i think over priced for what it is, we went and booked via top table so got 40% discount and with the discount the bill was about right but for two of us without discount the jack n jill would of been 70 notes…! Try Thai That East Rocky, have heard thats really really good and very good value..!

  115. devilgunner says:

I rate both Gnabry and Eisfeld a lot Rocky.

But their time has not come. Not yet! Not yet!

They are around 2 years behind Yennaris regarding development.

And I would really like to see AW throw Yenn in the deep end besides Arteta. Yenn, Wilshere, Jenks, Gibbs, and Frimpong are my current favourites. And I would like to see the AFC team built around them. Infact I live for that day.

  116. rockyrocastle07 says:

Afternoon Dev! I know! Diawara was so ridiculously bad it hurts!

Thanks for the inout on the 2 young’uns. How about Toral Harper? What’s happened to him?

  117. devilgunner says:

Imagine this mates……WC 2018 final. England vs Germany. And it features the above 5 plus Theo and the OX and maybe Afobe on one side with Gnabry and Eisweld plus someone else from God knows where playing for the opposition.

Now wouldn’t AW just love and and the journos have to lump it down their throats???

    But that’s another story.

  118. tsGH says:

hi WATH, Dev, rocky- i think Eisfield is ready technically but physically….???maybe in 3 years time. If you can swap his body with gnabry’s we will ahve ourselves a young TR07 pre 2006.

  119. allezkev says:

Toral is ticking over nicely in the Youth’s.
I’d put him behind Olsson but ahead of Jebb.
Three quality midfielder’s for us to enjoy in the near future.
Akpom is the kid who is developing at a ‘Wilshere type’ rate Rocky.

  120. rockyrocastle07 says:

Dev, the journo’s would still find a way to slag him off. If Germany beat us, then Wenger would be to blame because they play for Arsenal and we trained them to be world beaters!

  121. Nigel Tufnel says:

the funny thing is, if Theo goes, i wont be too sorry, because i think we can do better at his current position, but if he stays, i would be proud of him for the decision, which would really show loyalty. i would then love to see him get his chance where he wants. i basically want him to prove what he said in the recent interview, that its not about the money.. just like rvp said…i guess we will know the truth fairly soon.

  122. tsGH says:

Hi Dev, WATH, Rocky- i think eisfield is ready technically but physically I dont think he can cut it in this league… at least not in the next 2 years. if we can swap his body with Gnabry’s we will have a player probably worth 20m.

Yennaris though deserves a chance. He is above the u21 and next gen level but maybe not quite prem level. He really bossed the match against marseille and also next to Le Coq he looked good. Maybe a loan to Southampton or Norwich will be good for him.He would not suit the lower leagues either, me think

  123. rockyrocastle07 says:

Fair point Nigel. He still has to earn his (alleged) requested payrise though. My worry is, we play him through the middle to appease him, he becomes a smash hit, then pisses off somewhere else for free! Can’t see that happening in the slightest as I don’t think he has it in him, but stranger things have happened!

  124. devilgunner says:

as I said TsGH………Eisfeld is two years behind Yennaris. And no I would not loan Yennaris. I would play him next to Arteta to rest Jack and Ramsey. And I am 100% sure he will develop well this year if he is used.

  125. tsGH says:

I agree too Dev but I can’t understand why he is not even making the bench. With JW10 back he will be going down the pecking order.

since Lady Rico is not here I think I can say walnut is a goner. 😀

  126. tsGH says:

True Dev. I like his attitude. He is not complaining about playing in the U-21 reserves. He’s a proper gunner too so the moment he gets a chance I am going putting his name on my lil boys arsenal shirt. ha ha ha…

  127. allezkev says:

Rocky, you will like Kris Olsson, he is a very skillfull player, great range of passing with an eye for a Cesc style defence splitting ball.
Not seen Toral, but he us highly rated by the Academy staff.

  128. W.A.T.H says:

Evening TsGH, I think there are quite a few talents coming through the ranks to be fair, most physically are still just “boys” with a few exceptions and I think thats where we have to be carefulof throwing them in to early if physically they can’t hack getting bullied and kicked around by men…! Patience is a must, let the physique catch up with the technique and they will be fine.

  129. rockyrocastle07 says:

I’m good cheers wath. You? Just read your review now, cheers. May have to give the other one a shot!

  130. rockyrocastle07 says:

tell me about it Rico! Have to walk along the river later for about 15 mins once I get back to my home town…. Good job I have a massive golf umbrella! The only good thing about that sport…. The umbrellas are great!

  131. W.A.T.H says:

Nice weather to just stay in the pub me thinks….! Am all good Rock, Have heard good things about Thai Thai….! Let me know if you go and what you reckon..? How’s your wadders Rico 😉

  132. rico says:

Ha ha rocky, some say it ruins a good walk. I used to love playing but no more….

Hope it stops by the time you get to the river….

  133. rockyrocastle07 says:

I don’t see the point of it Rico. Tried it a few times and I’m really crap. If I get a good connnection, I can really leather the ball (think hmy height and build helps!) but those moments were few and far between! Loads of people at work play, and participate in tornaments with clients etc, or just get taken out by clients foe the day to play, so we now have loads of Liontrust golf brollies! I’ve got one at the office, 3 at home, gave my folks one each, and left one on the train yesterday morning…. Can’t stop nicking them!

Yeah still here wath! Like I said earlier to JW…. leaving early never happens to me!

  134. rico says:

I used to love playing rocky, I got down to 18 when I played a lot, but then my back decided to throw its toys out of the pram… Especially enjoyed the 19th hole though…

    You little tea leaf 😉

  135. devilgunner says:

But that was a bit of a long time ago Rico. I guess your back would have recovered by now if you did therapy properly.

  136. rockyrocastle07 says:

I know! Considering our company loves spending money on tat, these brollies are pretty good! All black with white writing. Still, not sure why I think I need so many…..!

Played off 18? Pretty impressive. How long did you play for? I bet you DID love the 19th hole! (Not suggesting you are an alky or anything!!). I used to quite like a St Clements after a round. The thought of it was the only thing that got me through each round of that Godforsaken game!!

  137. rockyrocastle07 says:

Right…. Officially now had enough of London for the week. Getting the hell out right now, and don’t even want to think about coming back until that alarm clock goes off at 5.30am Monday morning (Lee would have probably already been in work for about an hour by then!!)

    Have a good weekend all

    COYG!

  138. rico says:

Hi devil, sadly not, had surgery on mine and it’s never been the same since, probably the metal work they did – but I get by 😉 😉

  139. agirlagunner says:

Boooooo! Can’t wait to see our boys play again. rico, I think Theo is staying put. I’d like to believe he isn’t after more money. But then again, I was all faith that He Who Must Not Be Named was in it for the long haul. 😀 Among my fearless forecasts was that Na$ti and Cesc would stay, too. 😀 😀

    Hello, all!

  140. agirlagunner says:

Hiya, rico. I can’t wait. Intersnooze is just pointless. That meal was quick! What did you whip up tonight?

  141. goonster says:

the fun has arrivedaaaaaaa! hey guys what’s happening? jack back huh? wow jacareta like someone mentioned. now let’s rip them. COYGS! I wont be watching though. damned boss wants me to work weekends. i mean who put a scorpion in his under wear?

  142. goonster says:

polite huh?? gosh i ll bet they are fireballs in bed. everybody knows polite girls are wild cats! whoooohoooooo!

  143. agirlagunner says:

I bet they talked a lot, Adam. 🙂 🙂 We can be quite a noisy lot. 😕 Were they nice?

    How’s Mrs. Adam?

Goonie, howdy? I hope you have not been terrorizing the US of A. 😀

  144. goonster says:

lucky bastard……i spend practically my whole day looking for girls like and BAMM you find them without trying! what am i doing wrong? *sad face*

  145. goonster says:

hey lil mama, i heard you visited der fatherland……did you peradventurely (is that a word) went there cause of me? a guy can dream no?

  146. Adam says:

Mrs Adam is very well, think you Agag.
I was at a friends, driving his car around. I stopped to put some petrol in and they were also filling up their Mercedes. I saw them checking out the car that they wrongly assumed was mine. Then they followed me about a mile and stopped before coming over and asking if the could take pictures of themselves with the car. I have never seen girls refresh their make-up as quickly as these two, nor restore the height to their hair. They produced a serious looking camera and took loads of pics. They then asked me if I knew the Goonster, swooned a bit and then drove off.

  147. agirlagunner says:

Goonie, I went to Amsterdam all the while knowing you were in the States. Tells you everything, eh? 😀 😀 But I really liked it there. You should go out more find yourself a nice American girl. They’re always very friendly.

rico, we’ll dye it with some Kool Aid then. 🙂 Ahaha. And then you can tell us all about your crush. 😆

  148. goonster says:

hiya rico……what’s cooking? i might be heading to your neck of the woods pretty soon. christmas precisely. you live in reading right? a nice english family invited me over for the celebrations. i hope i get sometime off work though. my new boss is a slave driver…..every time he yells at me i picture lee in my head!

  149. goonster says:

but i want a filipino! *sobbing* i love the fact am twice their size. i have some nasty freaky things i ll love to do to them………and dont nobody mention chinese or japanese women. i have specifics. its gotta to be F.I.L.I.P.I.N.O

  150. goonster says:

DEVIL get off my case……how’s the little prince btw. i bet he’s still kicking your ass around the house. you old wind bag!

  151. agirlagunner says:

Adam, did you finally get your new car?? 🙂 🙂 And I believe that story except the last bit, 😆 My lot loooooove to take photos of themselves doing just about anything.

    Devil, hahaha.

  152. devilgunner says:

The little prince is getting taller mate. eight years and already 130cm tall.

And he is getting in shape so as to be ready to run after girls. He prefers athletics to football.

  153. Scott from Oz says:

    MORNING ALL…….
Sorry, had to shout…nobody heard the first time 🙂
I see everyone is totally focused on he Norwich game…..assuming our lads will be wearing 5 inch heels lol!!!

  154. Adam says:

No new car yet Agag. I dragged Mrs Adam out last week to have a look with me. Her taste is for a very practical car, mine is for something entirely impractical. Still, she managed to find a puffy coat with a furry collar so I bought her that instead.
The girls were very nice and very pretty. If I wasn’t too old and married I might have asked them to accompany me for some tea and an iced bun. 🙂

  155. devilgunner says:

    2 ft 8 inches tall?????

    Dear Lord.

Sounds like we are talking about the Dwarfs in LOTR. Or a Hobbit!!!!

We should be able to whip around and collect some money to buy Goonie some stilts.

  156. agirlagunner says:

Goonie, rico just told you she was going to be away… 😛

    Adam, I don’t know that ad. ;(

    Hiya, Scott. 🙂 🙂

  157. goonster says:

cheers adam…..that devil got me totally confused there. hey scott, how’s the land down under? now that’s a place i dread to visit. my poor old mum says its too far out and under the earth. she’s scared the devil might reach out from hell and grab me!

  158. Scott from Oz says:

    Adam,you should be ecstatic.
Most women would go out looking for a coat, and come home with a car….

  159. Scott from Oz says:

It is gods country here mate.
I have a South African Gooner coming out to stay in a few weeks…….if they survive,i shall have them send you a report!!
We have the most beautiful women in the world mate.
Well so they tell me……i am a married man with THE most beautiful girl anywhere!!
Rico, how did your topic manage to steer the banter in this direction….it is a talent 🙂

  160. goonster says:

maam i promise to be on my best behaviour when i visit. you wont see me chasing after girls or squeezing the necks of your little chickens till they turn blue. no i ll be totally quiet!

  161. goonster says:

sign me up scott…..i ll be over in the summer! hey wait a minute don’t you guys have great whites patrolling your beaches? i still value my tenders dont want them chopped off! thanks but no thanks, i ll stay in raleigh!

  162. rico says:

Sorry Scott, I can’t take any credit for that….

I am confident for the Norwich game, if we can’t beat them, then we are in trouble, and no disrespect meant towards Norwich…

  163. Scott from Oz says:

All the sharks seem to have camped off the West Australian beaches of late for some reason.
I will find you a nice beach with shark nets…….actually, there are some of the best beaches on he east coast within 10-15 minutes.
It is just starting to get to bikini weather, too!!

  164. devilgunner says:

Dont worry about me if you go to Oz Goonie. Usually I do not grab anyone under 5ft 5ins. And considering you are 2 ft 8 ins then you are free from the shackles of my assistants.

  165. allezkev says:

Hey Stan, that was amazing what Adam said, about those Phillipino girls swooning over the mention of your name.

Wow Agag must be spreading the word about you being the Bull of HH.

    Nail on brother… 😉

  166. goonster says:

stop it scott you re killing me! shapes and sizes you say? hey how about aboriginal ladies? what is their sexual practise like? i gotta try all before i get married so don’t judge me people.

  167. devilgunner says:

    Bull of HH??????

Now that’s a bigger larf then the one I had a few minutes ago.

A calf who creams in nappies more like it Kev!!!! 😉

  168. goonster says:

hahaahahahaah AK my man…..adam is just goofing around. but you re right AGAG though can you blame her after all the hot loving i gave her in her dreams? come on man have you seen me?

  169. agirlagunner says:

Only a matter of time til you buy it, Adam. And how nice to know you got Mrs Adam a new coat. Two thumbs up. 🙂 🙂 And I’m sure you’re not too old. 🙂

Dev, you do have a way of making hilarious fun of Goonie.

See ya later, Scott. 🙂 🙂

  170. goonster says:

devil you re what the hippies here call “killjoy” but i ll just ignore you like a horsefly on a broncho! ( God help me, froma dutch guy to a cowboy in less than 4 months!!!! christ!)

  171. Scott from Oz says:

Devil, sorry to get “off topic”,but something i forgot to mention earlier….watching true, top coach coaches yesterday was something else, and i learned more in an hour and a half watching them than i have at any other stage.
It also showed me that Aussie football is finally heading in the right direction…watch out world,we are coming!!

  172. devilgunner says:

A car with the number plate I M SEXY was stopped by Policemen on the highway. The constable came out of his car and told the driver to come out with his identification. Without waiting for an explanation the Constable started writing down a traffic fine.

“But Sir” said the man. “Why are you giving me a fine? I have done nothing wrong!!”

“Oh yes you have. You are misleading the public and especially the girls we have here in the Philippines with that number plate. Now what’s your name?”

“Stan…..” stammered the poor driver. 😆

  173. devilgunner says:

AGAG ….. I do not even try. He just walks into them himself. I just summarize what direction he leads me into. And I do like pulling his leg.

  174. devilgunner says:

Watching top coaches will always teach you a lot Scott. Tune in to Bayern TV, Inter TV, Milan TV and Juve TV and you get lots of training sessions which you can adapt to your kids.

  175. rico says:

    Night Scott

I too am off folks, have a good night/day all…

Catch up tomorrow, when the boys are back 🙂

Hey Coach, how are ya doing habib?
Think it’s gonna be a tough game tomorrow.
Norwich are desperate for a result and Chris Hughton is under immense pressure.

Rico, do you want me to do a post after the game???

See ya Agag. Keep on saving buddy 😉

Stan, when are you back for good?

  177. goonster says:

you told me to stay and save up remember? i was ready to cut the terms of my contract but you advised against it!

  178. devilgunner says:

We are fine mate. Thanks for offering for the report Kev. Pa has his 70th birthday tomorrow and I will not have time to do it although I will watch the game with him. Even my father in law has his birthday tomorrow.

I hope we get a good result plus……..a bloody clean sheet.

    And Kev, goonie. 🙂 🙂

That’s how I feel about Saks5th, Bluefly, yoox, and The Outnet, Kev. 🙁 🙁 I fully commiserate. 😉 I always end up buying my “last pair of shoes” for the year. Or some such avowal that I never ever keep. 😉 😉

  183. allezkev says:

I would definately start Giroud today.
His confidence must be on the up.
    Gerv and Poldi either side.
Carzorla, Arteta and Ramsey in midfield.
BFG, Verm, Santos and Jenks at the back.
    Mannone in goal.
