Morning all.
Of course I’m thrilled they’re out, what Arsenal Fan wouldn’t? When a Totts fans lets you know they’re sat in a pub with a beer in hand, in front of a roaring fire watching Arsenal get beat by Brighton on television, it’s kind of good seeing them get their cheesy grin wiped off their faces. Did I go onto Facebook and get my own back? Sure as heck I didn’t. Perhaps if they’d got knocked out 10-2 on aggregate over the two legs I would have but it’s only Arsenal who do that. The end result is the same I know but the performance tells a bigger picture, cerhainly for Arsenal. Also, there’s the small matter of us playing AC Milan in the San Siro later, not something I’m looking forward to watching if truth be told as I fear another bad result and performance looms.
These two fixtures against the Italians are going to be tough and the rest of the season will be over should we fail in our task to go through to the next round. This competition is Wenger’s last chance to show he has something left in him, some of the players too. Yet again after a defeat we’ve heard from a few players about bouncing back, being strong and being together but to be honest, like Arsene Wenger, their words are empty. We’ve heard them before and no doubt we’ll hear them again too before the end of May but it’s all too little and far too late. The football season kicks off in August, not in March after yet another seven months of garbage and little effort.
But this is the time of season when the last ditch fight for top four comes into play, although I think that chance is long gone so to get back in the Champions League next season means we have to win the Europa Cup. It’s as simple as that.
Were not the only ones in that position though as AC Milan are looking like they’ll need to win the competition too if they want Champions League football next season. They’re sat seventh in their league, eight points behind fourth place, nine if you take into consideration the goal difference between them and Lazio.
AC Milan did something we can only dream of and that was to sack their manager after a poor start to the season. Gennaro Gattuso came in to replace Vincenzo Montella and it’s paid dividends as they’re currently on a thirteen match unbeaten run. Not that that means much really as any Cup competition is different I think and anything can happen. Gattuso Was a tough footballer during his playing days, experienced too having won many trophies during his time with Milan so I’d imagine we can expect a tough challenge tonight, literally. Gattuso was a tough tackling midfielder and boy couldn’t we do with one of those in our team? Actually, we could do with more than just the one.
Both Monreal and Bellerin miss out tonight through injury, as does Lacazette and Aubameyang sits this one out as he’s ineligible. Welbeck will no doubt lead the attack with young Eddie on the bench and Chambers should fill the void at right back. I don’t think it makes much difference who starts in goal personally as neither really fill me with confidence any more than the defence/midfield do ahead of them.
Anyway, it’s a 6pm kick off and Arsene desperately needs a win, not that any success in this competition should make a difference to whether he goes in the summer and if Charlie Nicolas is in the know, the announcement that he’s leaving could be soon according to The Express.
Get battered by AC Milan over two legs and that announcement might be sooner than we think…
After the match last night we nipped out to our local for a quick one . It would have been rude not too. Whilst we were in there local Norfolk radio in the background was playing a few oldies and this Crosby Stills and Nash song came on and whistfully I listened and thought how the lyrics summed up Arsenal , Arsene and the the situation we find ourselves in
:- Helplessly hoping
Her harlequin hovers nearby
Awaiting a word
Grasping at glimpses
Of gentle true spirit
He runs, wishing he could fly
Only to trip at the sound of good-bye
Wordlessly watching
He waits by the window
And wonders
At the empty place inside
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams
He worries
Did he hear a good-bye? Or even hello?
They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are four for each other
It goes on , the the Golden Jackal kicked in and all was well in the world.
Morning Rico. Welcome to pedants corner.
I think you meant ineligible, not legible
Interesting and informative opening post. If any of the team have done their homework, they will be worried. Hard tackler, doesn’t means dirty tackler. So if he has instilled that ethos into his team, our little goonettes are going to suffer. Ozil will disappear.
I wonder where Charlie get his info from, he’s going to look an idiot if it doesn’t happen.
Shame we are without Monreal, but I don’t think the others are any miss tbh.
I’m not looking forward to the game.
Morning Meerkat, Potter and all.
Gattuso said they have toughened up and become more disciplined so our lot can expect a tough match I reckon.
Boy allegri provided a masterclass last night. Poch didn’t know what hit him. I almost died of envy watching juve in the last 10 minutes. That’s what you organize a defense. Yes spurs could have won it if kane’s header had gone it but they didn’t and credit must go the Italian defense. Oh how I long for a day when a manager of allegri sarri hassenhuttl or nagelsmann ilk ‘ll be at our dugout. Morning Rico am depressed as hell this morning. Still can’t believe we ‘re stuck with a dinosaur while teams around us are all evolving.
Morning all and thank you Rico.
As Charlie`s Doppleganger I hope he`s right or I will punch myself in the face and cause him extreme pain !
Last night when Spuds went 1-0 up my man-flu was within touch of reading me my last right`s, at one point I flatlined only to be brought back from death by Doctor Higuain and Doctor Dybyla……………………….Spexit was back on !
I like today`s game as it`s one where we are extreme under dogs, so no stress for an expected defeat, being virtually a mid-table team in performance I have no expectations playing any team from any division, we really are pants, but you know what pants are good at ?………………………..stopping the shit running down your legs and making your shoes still look shiny, still being in EL is like a pair of pants for Arsene, once they are removed our shoes will look messy !
Conte is in advanced talks with PSG!!!! Ffs if this is true then we might as well just close shop and disban arsenal as a whole. PSG are already planning for next season yet we ‘re still kissing Wenger’s ass. Jesus Christ in heaven. How on earth did we get here??? I could have sworn someone put a hex on us. We ‘re under some kinda juju curse guys. This makes no sense at all.
Lol. There aren’t many still
Kissing his arse Goonster, even the proper AKB are having a wobble.
I do agree with some on here though, that say his body language gives off confidence.
Kroenke doesn’t know or care about the fans and what is important to them. In his eyes Wenger can do no wrong, he is an example of a manager who turns a profit ever year. Kroenke must love him and will never sack him imo. If Arsene refuses to resign, and Stan won’t sack him, that means he is here for the foreseeable future.
Stan’s clubs in the USA are shite too. Is he bovvered? No not one little bit, the fans mean nothing to him up there in his ivory tower.
Meerkat gets it. Somehow we are at kroenke’s mercy. He won’t fire him and the old fart won’t resign heck he ‘ll might get a renewal. God this is unbearable.
We could be a powerhouse. A force to reckon with. I mean look at the odds stacked up on our favor. A giant club based in LONDON with a ultra modern stadium and massive fan base. We have 13 league titles 12 fa cups 2 European cups. The only club in a 100 years to go unbeaten for the whole season!!! We have the tradition, pedigree and location yet we ‘re worse than millwall. It’s a shame the club’s hierarchy should hang their heads in shame. Wish these were medieval times I ‘love to have some heads on a pike at my castle. Cnuts.
To all gunners, the time as come. Tonight will hopefully be wenger last game in charge. Predicting 3 nil to milan. A win tonight would just paper over cracks. Sick and tired every season going the same way milan win and wenger to get sack. Wenger to be sacked would be like winning the lottery the best thing in the world. Wenger out.
Haha Goonster, love the line after all what we have ….. ‘yet we worse than Millwall’. Nice one, made me laugh.
Trouble is, that if Wenger, the super tactician, somehow gets his team to win the Ropey cup, he will unquestionably be given ‘just one more year’ to have yet another tilt at the CL. We all know in the unlikely event that this scenario would pan out, that we would leave the competition CL that is, at the last 16 stage, just the same as totteringham!
In the more likely event that we get beaten by AC, over two legs of course, then perhaps, just maybe they’ll let him go at the end of the season. However, as Goonie says, the man is like glue and immovable. David Seaman reckons that the old git will see out his contract, no matter what happens. Just another ŷear, and then just another one, and another, ad infinitum until he drops off his perch! Even then he’ll come back to haunt the stadium! We’ll never be rid of him!
Sunny intervals here.
Afternoon all.
If only Irish…
Afternoon guys..
Wavy, and Grimandi reckons Dixon, Keown and Henry should be nicer to Wenger. Pff!!
Finally I made it back on. The site has been down all day.
What a difference. Well done the team.
What a day to disappear just as the renaissance took place. Refreshing to watch the effort put on by each and everyone of them.
Any connection between the site problems and the rolling advert which blocks out what I am typing
Shouldn’t be Potter as the rolling advert has been up before without problems. Might have just been updates to the site going through, it sometimes drops out then..
Good win, decent performance too.
Just makes you wonder why they can’t pass at that tempo, and have that ball control most weeks. Great performance within a crappy season.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse the old chap wins a match that had he lost he may well have been looking down the barrel of a live round, and the old twat does enough to get our revered team an unlikely win. A predictable defeat would have been fine …..another loss closer to the end!
Ah well, there’s always sunday’s game to see him on the road to the dole queue!
Exactly what does last night tell us , either the team took the bull by the horns and sorted things or else they are now only capable of turning up when there is a pot to be won .They couldn’t do it against City , so what changed ?
For all his faults like scoring Welbeck closed down quickly and was getting support from the midfield , instead of just waiting for someone else to do things we saw a sense of purpose but in all fairness with better finishing they could have had a couple too.Our defence is still lacking and the taking off of Ozil for Holding invited them on at the finish.
More questions again , how much of this was down to Wenger , Bould or the players themselves , Who or what sparked them off ?
As Wavy has said , it’s a get out of jail free card for Wenger and a positive result next Thursday will take the pressure down a notch or two.
Just one last question as Dortmund lost last night at home to Salzburg , if they go out does PEA’s cup tie go off. ?
and if it does will he get in the team past Danny boy.
Morning Potter and all.
New post up now and it seems we think alike Potter….
