Henry offers hope. FA bring in new rules.

Morning all.

The Man Utd fans might have inadvertently helped Arsenal out but only if we can muster up a good enough performance against Villarreal on Thursday night. The Utd v Liverpool fixture has to be played before the end of the season, Sunday 23rd May but between now and that date either Liverpool or Utd have either a weekend or midweek fixture. Just how the PL will come up with a date for the postponed fixture I don’t know but it’ll definitely (notice no ‘a’ so it’s not me) mean Utd will have a busier schedule before the Europa Cup Final than they’d have liked. I hope it’s slotted in during the final week of the season and it’s a tough tough game for both sides.

Thierry Henry was a guest on Sky Sports Monday Night Football and had something quite interesting to say:

I think it is going to be long and not easy if it does ever happen. One thing that I want to reiterate is that Daniel will not move away, he will be there waiting to see if they want to sell. He already – I’ll give you something – reached out [to the Kroenkes] and already said himself that he had collected the funds to make sure that he can put in a good bid.

They now need to listen. A lot of people have been screaming that they want the owner out. We are trying to offer a solution involving the fans and getting the DNA of the club back. There needs to be a discussion, but he reached out.

I doubt Thierry Henry would make such a claim if it weren’t true so fingers crossed the Kroenke enterprise say yes. Not that any of us know what kind of owner he’d be should his attempt to buy Arsenal be successful. Had the Kroenke family, along with other clubs, not felt the need to support a Super League, I very much doubt the protests like we saw outside the Emirates and Old Trafford would have taken place. You reap what you sow I guess.

The Premier League is ‘introducing an owners’ charter to protect its “core principles” which all club owners must sign up to’ –  Sky Sports. In other words, a breakaway league will not happen which probably won’t please the likes of Stan Kroenke or anyone else hoping to make a quick few millions of pounds and that has to be a good thing. Not just for the Premier League but for football in general. Here in the UK, football is about winning titles regardless of which division, domestic cup upsets and relegation. Excitement and misery in equal measures.

Excitement v misery, emotions of which Arsenal FC and it fans will feel one of this Thursday. Of course I hope it’s not the latter. Regardless of how our domestic season has gone, Mikel Arteta needs two massive performances from his players. The first on Thursday and the second in the final against Man Utd. The West Brom fixture at the weekend is irrelevant, this week is about 95 minutes of effort, commitment and discipline against Unai Emery’s team.

See you in the comments.

    Morning Rico.

KSE are sure to knock-back the first offer but as Arteta says ‘It’s a process’…
I wonder if a change of ownership would lead to a change of management, I reckon that Freddie would return to run the U21’s/U23’s?
DG if the Juventus goalkeeper is out of contract and if he’s a top talent as you suggest I reckon he’ll have bigger clubs than Arsenal sniffing around him.
I’m a bit underwhelmed by most of the transfer rumours I’ve been seeing for the last few months, I can’t help asking myself if we don’t have a player who is equal to player X or player Y in the Academy already?
I mean signing Willian just basically ended the Arsenal career of Reiss Nelson and obstructed Nicholas Pepe’s development so that was a great forward thinking transfer. Do we need anymore dead hand transfers like that?
I mean we have William Saliba, why do we need to sign another centre half ffs and who knows if one of our younger centre backs out on loan can’t do a job anyway?
Focus on those areas where it’s clear we lack numbers and quality, left back, centre midfield, goalkeeper, right back.

Next up is West Brom in the league , after that we can decide what is irrelevant . before we play Liverpool play southampton , villa play Man Utd , and west ham play everton.
Depending on those results the club may well feel that 5th to 7th are in reach

It’s a long shot , but stranger things have happened.

    Morning Kev, all.

I wonder if the collapse of the Super League has ruined Kroenke’s plans. I hope the talks with Ek go well and the outcome is positive.

  4. rico says:

What I don’t understand with Nelson is if he wasn’t in Arteta’s plans post Christmas, why not loan him out? Same with Nketiah.

Thanks Potter, I was ahead of myself there.

I keep looking at the remaining fixtures and a lot of the teams around us have difficult games and some with each other . Points will be dropped and the gap can narrow
You are probably right not to read too much into it but 1998 I think , we clawed 12 points back to beat United to the title.
There’s many a slip between cup and lips.

Hi Rico and all There is a report in Australia that Man U may be deducted points over there cancelled match.

If EK and company buy Arsenal then I hope the Judge Arteta on his Coaching and out look for the future and not on how many friends of theirs he has upset or sacked or even use it to get Henry as our new coach.

  7. rico says:

We don’t have that luxury this time but you’re right, after Thursday we’ll know how important those remaining games will become.

Hi Geoff, not seen that over here.

  8. Aussie Geoff says:

Rico I read it at mail online by Charlie walker published 3rd may apparently there is a rule were you can loose point for failing to supple safety to players, staff and officials. I don’t know who this reporter is just read the story.

  9. Aussie Geoff says:

I am surprised that Henry has come out about EK and co so soon and not waited until they have made some roads into buying Arsenal. Maybe he is just trying to calm the Arsenal fans down for Kroenke. After all if he keeps his mouth closed the fans will keep complaining and you may be able to buy the club for less as damaged goods.

The FA are considering punishing the clubs that agreed to join the ESL. In deciding what penalties to impose they must ensure that it is only the owners of the clubs that suffer and not the players, ancillary staff, and most of all not the fans.

Points deductions to ensure clubs do not qualify for the Champions League would be totally unfair, as the tables currently show, deducting twenty points from City would put them down in fifth place, but deducting the same twenty points from Manchester United and Chelsea would see City moved back up the to second place behind only Leicester. To ensure that City are unable to qualify it would be necessary to deduct around thirty points. The same reduction would see Arsenal relegated.
Even then, unless Uefa City could still qualify by winning this season’s CL.

I’ve just seen that Mourinho is taking over at Roma from next season. Hilarious,I wonder if Mkhityarian will still be there next season ? I seem to remember they didn’t get on.
Also it’s a bit of a come down, time was Jose would only go to one of the top 1 or 2 in a country,Roma is a big name but there must be 5 or 6 ahead of them in Italy.

  12. Devilgunner says:

    Hilarious isn’t it

    Jose Mourinho’s managerial honours
    Club Major trophies
Porto (2002-04) Primeira Liga (x2), Champions League, Uefa Cup (now Europa League), Portuguese Cup
Chelsea (2004-07 and 2013-15) Premier League (x3), FA Cup, League Cup (x3)
Inter Milan (2008-10) Serie A (x2), Champions League, Coppa Italia
Real Madrid (2010-13) La Liga, Copa del Rey
Manchester United (2016-18) Europa League, League Cup
    Tottenham (2019-21) None

  13. Aussie Geoff says:

Cicero I agree with you if any thing happens over the super league it should be taken against the owners and any one else who knew. but don’t take it out on the innocent players.
Lets just pray they don’t ban us from the transfer market for 12 months

I don’t know if it is true or not but I did read some wear that Kroenke has said if the club gets fined he would pay it out of his own pocket and not from the clubs funds and so he should.

Devil Weather you like Mourinho or not it’s still not a bad record for a coach.

  14. Devilgunner says:

Geoff…..it’s not about Mourinho….he has won everywhere he went. It’s that Tottenham could not even win with him in charge 😂😂😂😂

  15. rico says:

Transfer ban for Utd would be great. 😂

If they want to penalise the owners, however they do it will have an impact of the team and managers.

  16. Devilgunner says:

Rico….if its a transfer ban does it mean that Arsenal cannot sell or they cannot buy only???

Because if they cannot sell then we are lumped up with what we have.

If we cannot buy then it means that Arteta will be forced to play the kids. And also be careful who they will sell. Out with the oldies…..to be replaced by academy players. Now that would be great.

  17. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.
It looks like City have made it into the C/L final.
Will all 4 english clubs make it ito the 2 finals

  18. Rick says:

There has been a Brilliant result for our u16’s this evening.
They played Reading in the U18 league and won 6-1
The team consisted of 15 and 14 year olds and not one
    of the normal U18 played.
I think the normal side have been saved for more important games this week end..
It bodes well for next season.

  19. allezkev says:

Reading put out an U16 team as well Rick, apparently both clubs agreed to it beforehand.

DG a transfer ban doesn’t stop you selling it just stops you buying, Rico my suggesting was a punishment for attempting to join a Super League so it would include all the 6 clubs, not just Man Utd, even a one year ban would be interesting, it would benefit those teams that promote youth development like Arsenal.

  20. aussie Geoff says:

Devil Tottenham would not be able to win silver ware even if the Queen was there number one member

  21. rico says:

    Oops, my error Kev.

Good idea though and yep, to a degree it would be good for Arsenal but other clubs have big enough squads to carry them through a year or two year transfer ban.

  22. Aussie Geoff says:

question If a club is band from buying players can they still renew a loan players contract for another year
