Gutsy Arsenal!

Morning all.

Arsenal climbed the table by a few places yesterday after beating Burnley at Turf Moor. A perfectly placed free kick from Martin Ødegaard was enough to seal all three points. I’d say that’s a great result, even if the performance was far from perfect. Aaron Ramsdale was excellent I thought. There’s just something about him which I love. Probably the fact that he’s busy, always busy either talking to his defence or he’s on his toes, ready for action. The stream I watched kept freezing, the worst moment being as Ødegaard stood over the free kick. Still, I’ve seen it since.

From what I tell of Arsenal’s performance, it was slow at times, gutsy at others. Gabriel, Takehiro and Ramsdale in particular. The passing wasn’t brilliant but I did read the pitch hadn’t been cut and nor had it been watered. No excuse I know but it makes a difference to the way a passing team play.

Burnley created a few chances to score but hey, if they can’t take them, I’m not going to give a toot, are you? Arsenal created a few chances of their own but the same old struggles to score continued. ESR had two which on another day, one of them might go in.

There was a penalty given against Ramsdale but in stepped VAR. Anthony Taylor had a second look at the incident and overturned his decision. Rightly so too as Ramsdale got his foot to the ball before the Burnley player decided to go over.

1-0 was enough on the days and Mikel Arteta paid tribute to the travelling fans after the game.

I’d just like to show them gratitude – Arteta told Arsenal Media. “To come all the way here and support the team like they did, I think the players wanted to show again their appreciation. They were fantastic. They have been fantastic and we need them. We need them alongside the team because they are a big part of our team.

According to reports, there was a bit of ‘afters’ between both sets of fans once the game had finished.

As Kev said on here overnight, results like yesterday are great. They’re certainly confidence builders for the players. White said after the game that his dodgy back pass fell short because the surface was dry. But Ramsdale, on his toes, saved the day. It’s inevitable that Arsenal’s performance will be criticised by the media, perhaps even Arsenal fans around the Internet but that’s their prerogative. I prefer to take the positives which from the bits of the game I saw was strong defending against a bullish Burnley team.

Tierney, ESR and Partey were replaced in the second half fire getting knocks. Hopefully none are serious. Another positive though was Lokonga, Tavares and AMN who replaced them, did really well.

Arsenal move on, to Wimbledon in the League Cup on Wednesday evening at The Emirates.

Lastly, one of England’s greats, Jimmy Greaves has passed away. May he rest in peace…

See you in the comments.

    Good day to you all.

A good result yesterday, three point and a clean sheet to go with a superb freekick by Odegaard.

For a defensive formation that is almost entirely new I thought they did very well indeed. Ramsdale, Tomiyasu and White have slotted in beautifully, give them a few games to get to know each other better and we will have a formidable back line. My one doubt is Tierney, his fitness/stamina look to be a bit below par. Just before his substitution, he had gone forward along the left wing but when the ball was lost and hoofed up field by the Burnley back-line he could only jog back and looked exhausted.

As I said, at the top, a good result especially as we had to play the entire game with just ten men. Aubameyang was 100% useless.

It looks as though next weekend could be a good time to play the Spuds, they were I some disarray against the Chavs and took a beating. Kane looked almost as ineffective as our own lay-about striker Aubameyang. Just how long is Arteta going to keep starting him?

Balogun has to start against Wimbledon this Wednesday, ok have Lacazette on the bench but Flo is committed as is Martinelli so if Gabby is fit he should start in front of Nketiah, if just makes sense to me.

Tavares at left back, Mari, Chambers, give them a run out.

Sorry about the crash guys and your comment Potter. It did the same to me the other day when I lost a post. That’s technology eh, great when it works…

After seeing the way that the Brentford center forward terrorised Wolves, we could do a lot worse trying to sign him.

Cicero Ithinkl Aubameyang will not play against Wimbledon.
Its on the cards Balogon will be given the chance
Today our u23s humiliated Chelsea (away) 6-1
We played a full hour with 10men after Rekik was given a red card
At that time we were winning 3-0 and Balogon had scored 2.

He was replaced withen mins of the Red card and I don’t think he was injured.
There is a new kid on the Blockhis name is Biereth.
We signed him from Fulham and today he scored a hattrck
He looks very strong and puts himself about they will all
be talking about him before long

  7. Rick says:

    Kev
Biereth is the same type of player as Toney.
I can see why he scored so many goals for Fulham
I will say Balagon and Biereth down the middle will be ahandful
    for any defence

We’ve certainly got some very exciting young striking options Rick, but when Lacazette and Nketiah leave next summer I think we’ll need to bring in an experienced goalscorer, especially if Aubameyang continues to decline.

RIP Greavsie,1958 I stood on the shed end at Stamford Bridge. I went to see the Wolves. Billy Wright and six other England internationals .
    Chelsea won 6 – 2 Greaves scored 5.
    Bit special.

Arsenal needs someone like that currently what we have isn’t working , To get the best out of the system we are playing neither Auba or Laca have all the attributes we need. A mix between the two with a bit of Giroud or Alan Smith thrown in would give the presence in the box with the ability to hold the ball and use the surplus of back up players we have.
Finding him though maybe difficult but perhaps we already have him in house

  10. Aussie Geoff says:

can some one please answer this.
I like ESR but does he lack power when taking a shot at goal. Or is it just the way it looks on tv.
