Fuss over nothing…

Morning all.

After all the fuss about Eric ten Hag, he’s staying at Manchester United. Not only is he staying, he’s reported to be given a new contract. Poor bloke has been dragged through the mill by the sports writers who seemed to truly believe his days in the Premier League were over. Utd clearly had, or have, other ideas. If winning the FA Cup alone at the end of a season is a sackable offence then Arsenal would have been looking for a new manager a long time before Unai Emery arrived at the club.

Anyway, it just goes to show that just because something is written down, it’s not always true. A bit like the Šeško rumours which clearly had little but speculation attached to them. Anyone can write an article, or post a comment on social media linking a player and before you know it, that players name has been repeated time and time again across the big wide web. Attach a link to said player and bobs your uncle as the saying goes. Šeško in all likelihood was never moving to the Premier League this summer. If Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea – whoever, had really wanted to sign him and the player was ready to move, his reported €65m get out clause would have been activated by now and we’d have heard about that I’m sure.

You and I don’t even know which areas of the squad Arsenal hope to strengthen in this summer let alone which players they might be going for. We don’t know for definite who the club are planning to sell. Logic suggests who we might because of their lack of playing time last season but until anyone is sold, we’re all just guessing. But that’s what this time of year is about isn’t it? Reading and hoping that a few top notch players are heading to Arsenal.

Next will be watching other clubs sign players whilst Arsenal perhaps haven’t. There’ll be frustration as a player Totts, Utd or Chelsea sign who ‘should’ have come to Arsenal. There’ll be envy, frustration and even fury. Heaven forbid a player turns Arsenal down for another club. How foolish were Arsenal to hand £60 million odd to Chelsea for Havertz, or for signing Jorginho and Leandro Trossard instead of Mudryk and Caicedo. Ben White for £50 million? Ridiculous – yes, I include that one because that’s what I believed at the time…

I think these days we can be more confident of Arsenal signing players who Mikel Arteta believes will make the squad stronger and we’ll find out who they are soon enough. I don’t think the Euros, which kicks off this week will make much of a difference as players will go into the competition knowing that in all likelihood, they’ll start the new season with a different club. Transfer negotiations are already going on I’m sure with just a fee to be agreed and a medical to take place. (I hope in Arsenal’s case)

Anyway, the transfer window officially opens in two days time so perhaps we’ll see a bit of Arsenal action very soon.

Catch up later…

One thing that bugs me is the number of sites that photoshop players into an Arsenal shirt. I know that they are just baiting but somehow you can’t help thinking that the person doing it is probably about a 12 year old with more computer skills than me.
As the saying goes until it’s on .com !!!!!

Afternoon Rico and the mob.

Great post Rico, mainly focusing on transfers… 😆
The window opens this Friday so you can fill your boots.

Good news on Mrs Cicero.

You should go on YouTube and see the proliferation on sites claiming that this deal is done and that player has been signed and showing some herbert in an Arsenal shirt.

Mind you I’ve been reliably informed that at this present time, the transfer window isn’t open. So take note!

Cheers Kev.

It’s really strange about ten Hag, I thought Sir Jim had made it clear that his days as United manager were over, particularly because he doesn’t believe in managers and would rather have a head coach. Perhaps the cost of sacking the guy was going to affect the club’s ability to sign some much needed new players.

If he has been given a new contract, it may be as a coach working under all those new directors of various varieties that have been rocking up at the Old Toilet since Sir Jim rode into town.

We may never know the truth of the matter, but time will tell.

Apparently Arsenal are in the process of signing a 16 year old striker from the Chelsea academy, but not quite yet!

You know the drill 😉

I’m kind of excited to see who we are really working on…
Sesko was a very simple market opportunity we tried for, not much diplomacy involved. I wonder who Arteta will use his magnetism on this summer… Equal 1 and 2 for me is wide attacker and Partey successor. They need to be really good to get into this uber talented squad. Defender coming only if we make sales, striker very unlikely.
Selling should be almost equally interesting for a change.

Prior to the next (January) transfer window I’m going to list every player “linked” with Arsenal and then compare it with who we actually buy or publicly attempt to buy…..but there again I might not. 😉

It’s been a long day, good night all. 😴

Rico, I’ve checked out all the transfer news so you don’t have to, so you just relax mate, leave it to me…

The big news concerns Aston Villa, who are said to be trying again to sign Matteo Guendouzi from Marseilles.

It’ll be just like the ‘old days’ at Villa Park, all they need now is Lucas Torrieira and Nicolas Pepe…

Nigel Tufnel

Kev they’ll be screwed when they can’t replace Emery with Arteta. That’s the key part of Villa’s Arsenal simulation.

Good Morning Rico and all

I still can’t get my head around the fact that Sesko didn’t come. He would have fitted in perfectly. Imagine having the skills of Giroud but with twice the speed and agility. Plus he is 6ft 5….towering above everyone. Jover would have been licking his lips for set pieces. Just put it on his head and the rest would be history.

As it is various strikers are being mentioned…..the latest being Santiago Gimenez a mere 6ft striker who is quite fast and good. But not as much as Sesko.

Knowing that Sesko’s agent used Arsenal to get a better deal from LEipzig leaves a sour taste.

I agree with Kev about Zirkzee. We already have better….Jesus. Zirkzee will not hit the ground running and will not be a better option than any of our forwards.

Devil, as Rico and I said over the last day or two. I reckon Sesko and his manager had no plans to leave, it was just about a better deal for Sesko

Cicero

I don’t agree that Jesus is a better option than signing a new striker. He has chronic injury problems and is not the prolific goal scorer we need. Neither is he a first choice starter, just another highly paid (£265,000 per week) bench warmer.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Arsenal are about to sign their first deal of the summer. On loan ‘keeper David Raya has been offered contract to remain a Gunner.

Cicero….I did not say that JEsus is the better option than signing a new striker. He is definitely a better option to have than Zirkzee imo. There are others who can benefit the team. But not Zirkzee

Cicero

As I know nothing about Zirkzee and can’t comment on him.

As we need to sell players, Jesus should be one of the first on the list, for the reasons I gave in my previous comment.

Afternoon Rico and congregation.

I’d rather not buy any striker than splash a load of cash on the rebound from Sesko, if we can’t get the right gig then I’d wait and focus on other areas of the team like a wing-forward or another No.6.

Who knows what might be available to us in January or next summer. In 12 months time if he’s still with us young Mr Obi-Martin might be the solution?

Ok I’m off to study NewsNow so you lot don’t have to.

ITK Kev reporting:

Ivan Toney is back on the table according to the lads on NewsNow.

Brentford have slashed his fee, that’s right that haven’t just reduced it they’ve actually slashed it, from £80million to a paltry £60million!

Sounds a bargain to me…

Kev you’ve arrived exactly where I’m at about the needs we have. I’d be happy with a very good winger with pace instead of a CF. If they could play right or left it would be nice. I want to sell Jesus, but who knows if he could even pass a medical exam.
Then a Partey successor because even if Partey doesn’t leave, we can bed in the new guy without pressure. We’ll need the body anyway with Elneny leaving.

Devilgunner

I agree that we need to sign a CF with a scoring pedigree. However, he needs to be a Giroud type, a foil who can bring those around him into play. That is why I said Zirkzee is not ideal. On the wings we have Saka, Martinelli and Trossard who are nailed on to begin games. That is why we should not sell Nelson but sell Jesus. If we were to buy a forward similar to the above three he will take Nelson’s place but we will have similar/inferior to Jesus.

Rico,
If that alleged degenerate gambling lump Toney were to come… nobody would suffer more than I would, because of the horrible (but true) things I’ve been saying about him for 2 years.

Not that good …. a 1 in 3 striker if you take out the penalties.
He doesn’t contribute to press or build up play.
Is the type of striker that needs to be fed and waits for opportunities to come to him. He is the opposite of Arteta ball.

He is also the opposite of the culture of good characters we seek. He has a big mouth.

Allegedly bet against his own team. This was the reason for the long ban. This is horrible and as a teammate it must be infuriating to know he was sitting there actively hoping for his “mates” to lose.

Of course they’ll cut the fee they’re asking. His stock has rightfully dropped.
I wouldn’t take him for free. Why introduce something that could harm the beautiful culture we’ve built?

Toney would be more than one step backwards. I simply hope doesn’t come.

Well that sums up twenty twenty cricket for me, Oman 47 all out in 13.2 overs. England 50 for 2 in 3.1 overs. What a farce!

It depends on the winger Rico, if you can get a player who can play on either flank or through the middle then you can switch or rest the guys we have now, also someone who comes on and makes an impact would be helpful.

We still have a lot of guys who don’t make any impression when they come on, in fact it’s often the reverse effect and that’s why we don’t see the rotation we’d all like to see.

Nigel/Devil, I don’t want to see Toney move to Arsenal and for many of the reasons you’ve both stated, but it seems likely that Arsenal have scouted him and had discussions with his agent and with Brentford when you consider the amount of chat there’s been about this for so long – although not so much lately.

I guess it all depends on what Brentford want and the nearer to the end of August it gets without him moving and then the more likely that Brentford might drop the price even more.

If Arsenal do go for him then you’ve gotta trust that they know what they’re doing!

Cicero

Good morning all.

Ivan Toney is twenty-eight, he would want at least a three year contract so will have little value in the transfer market towards the end of his term. He’d probably go for nothing. It doesn’t make financial sense to pay something like £50 to £60 million on a stop gap player who would demand a high wage.

Devilgunner
Devilgunner

Good Morning Rico and all

Heaven forbid Toney comes to Arsenal……1) for the above reasons Cicero pointed out. 2) He gives me Auba vibes, that is, he will sulk halfway through his contract 3) he will want to be the main man and instead of bringing others into play and work for the team, he will expect everyone to work for him, 4 his baggage on betting puts me off.

Today I read a new name..Tammy Abraham. He is 26. 6ft 4. averages a goal every three games. I have seen him play in the Italian league quite a few times but although he would fit in well in Arteta’s system I dont think he will dislodge Havertz. More like a rotational player who will share duties in the number 9 position. Better to have him than Jesus though. I just hope he has recovered well from his ACL rupture. I dont think Roma will want a lot of money for him…..roughly around 25 million. Imo TA would be good business.

I still would like us to keep Rhys Nelson and Arteta gives him more minutes. Jesus, if sold to a good bid will finance a move for CF (TA????) and leaves some money to be added to a midfielder.

The left back position is another not so clear situation atm. Apparently the club have told both Zinchenko and Tierney to find a club because Arteta prefers Kiwior. however, the latter apparently wants the chance to move back to Italy, amid interest from Serie A, Juventus and Milan have been touted as possible destinations, but Arsenal would prefer to keep the 24-year-old and instead let the above mentioned duo depart
