First signing almost done? NextGen quarters tonight & £5 million Striker being monitored…

Morning all,

Highly-rated Nigerian defender Godfrey Oboabona is set to join the club on trial, and he’s all set to do what it takes to make this time count.

The centre-back impressed for his country during the African Cup of Nations and has attracted interest from clubs around Europe, but has said that Arsenal are his boyhood club and would therefore be his first choice.

The 22-year-old told who currently plays for Sunshine Stars, as a defender professes to be a long time supporter of Arsenal:

Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for.

Ah, one of those eh, but, he’s a wanted man:

I already have offers from the top five leagues in the world. But like you know the transfer window had closed by the time the Nations Cup ended.

If I want to make any move now then it would be to an African country, and I don’t want such a move when I have offers from Europe.

So, I would rather wait until the summer and make the right choice instead of rushing into any move.

However, in the meantime, he is on his way to The Emirates and history suggests, he could be the one who ticks the boxes for Arsene Wenger.

I know nothing about the player, so as far as how good or bad he is, I can’t comment. But if he impresses, I strongly suspect he’ll be our first capture of the summer transfer window.

Andreas Cornelius is another rumoured to be on Wenger’s radar. The 20-year-old striker from Denmark scored in Saturday’s 3-0 win over the Czech Republic and is valued at around £5m. Stoke are reported to be keeping an eye on him too.

One who maintains he;s not going to be the first departure of the summer is Wojciech Szczesny –  he’s clearly full of support for his current manager but you wouldn’t think he’d be trying a lot harder to straighten things out after Papa Szczesny dropped him in the mire?

Making comments like these about this current squad will hardly help his cause:

I can’t imagine it here without the manager. With all due respect to my team-mates it was easier to work with Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry.

We have a strong squad now, but there is no player of Henry’s class.

Not sure his team-mates will be too chuffed either!!

Stuart Pearce is hoping to nab Oxlade-Chamberlain away from Roy Hodgson’s squad. The under 21’s have a European Championship in Israel this summer and Pearce wants him to be part of that rather than waste his time being involved in friendlies for his country.

All that’s left is to wish the under 19’s the very best of luck in their NextGen quarter-final fixture which takes place tonight at The Emirates Stadium.

Kick-off is at 7pm and tickets are available at £4 General sale Adults/£2 General sale U16’s

COYR’S

That’s about it for another day, have a good one all…..

hello Rico – good to see all the world class ‘make a real difference’ quality being lined up

  2. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, no world class players, even if actually on our radar, are going to be mentioned now.
    You bloody cynic 🙂
    Evening mate.
    Morning everyone else.

  3. Bendtnersgone says:

    Morning all.
To be fair Chesney’s spot on and he shouldn’t be afraid to say so just because his dad mouthed off.

  4. Scott from Oz says:

    Agreed Bendtner.
We do all have a chuckle when Wenger tells us how good the squad is, so we can hardly condemn someone for telling the truth.
Ramsey is close, but even he has a step or two before he can be compared with the great ones 🙂

  5. rico says:

Bg, I too think he’s spot on, but sometimes there are things best kept to oneself, and I think that’s one of them…

And, some might say, he’s no David Seaman or Jens either…

  6. Bendtnersgone says:

It’s true he’s no Seaman rico but like the other names he mentioned we have current players with the potential to be up there. I see no harm in the occaisional reality check as all too often I feel that some of our boys think they have already made it.

  7. rico says:

Bg – But should that come from one of the players and to the press?

That’s the bit I’m not so keen on..

  8. Bradster says:

    Hi all,

Been in the 30’s here too last week, bit cooler today though, 26 degrees.

Are the youngsters playing at the Emerates and it’s 3 pounds entry? Thought I read that somewhere.

    Well good luck to them.

  9. rico says:

    Hi Brad.

They are definitely playing at the Ems, the prices I got for afc.com…

Win tonight and Chelsea up next

  10. W.A.T.H says:

Adam will be devastated… Carol Vorderman has broken her nose…. Least it won’t affect her rear of the year…!

  11. Bendtnersgone says:

Fair enough Rico. I just kinda like knowing for sure that not everyone in the dressing is content with the current situation.

  12. rico says:

    😆 Wath. Poor CV..

So they shouldn’t be Bg, but all Ches is doing is giving the press another stick to beat us with…

But I see your point too, wonder how many more feel that way and how many are fed up with team-mates soft performances…

  13. Lee says:

Mondays are shite at the best of times, let alone after 10 days in the Maldives….feeling fucking grumpy today! Humbug……..

  14. kc says:

1m for a player that i think knows his trade…i will take him…unlike others,i think we hav three good defenders in kos, mert and verm…in as much our nigerian guy is not bought to be thrown into deep..let go for him

good morning rico and other HH’ers..it been a long

  15. kc says:

seems woj is unsettled….i don’t see many top clubs that would accept him as their NO1…….and if he don’t know,we are missing seaman and lehman class

  16. rico says:

Hi kc, last matches tomorrow I think then Reading at home on Saturday. Just hope the players come through without injury…

Few tough fixtures tomorrow I think…

  17. kc says:

    rico,
i’m not a fan of international games especially when it had done more harm to Arsenal than good although i will be watching Giroud break spain heart and ox add to his international goal tally….heard Monreal will play for spain…does that mean gibbs at lb against reading
goodluck to next gen lads….hope that Bellerin will have a cracker

  18. Rick says:

The next gen game tonight is being shown on Arsenal player .
There are also other links , where is Emma when you really want her.
Reports say CSK are redhot fav to win the compitition outright, and this could a very hard game for our lads.

  19. potter says:

Carol Vorderman has broken her nose

Probably had her laugh lines botoxed and a tummy tuck at the same time.

Anyway it might keep her off our screens for a few weeks.

  20. SD London says:

    Internationals are dull;

    Mario Balotelli scored a screamer;

    Schezney might be right but it all confirms the rumor that his team mates dont like his corkiness and over confidence , so he is fighting back;

    The Nigerian defender looks super relaxed and easily takes off players twice his size and didn’t let Drogba get a sniff of the ball in the AFCON. Drogba had to congratulate him after the game;

    Wenger has started re-organizing then, good to know;

    England might loose or draw on Tuesday ;

  21. rico says:

I hate them all too kc, all they do is cause injury to our players, and watching England these days is awful…

Rick, I suspect emma will be about before the game kicks off..

  22. rico says:

Potter, I take it you are not a fan….

SD, so this Nigerian player is good? Better than Squiili 😉

  23. SD London says:

Mos Definitely. better than Squilli but he might be surprised when he meets the animals of Stoke and Sunderland and the rabbits of Man City in Aquero and Tevez or the betraying left foot of Robin V’ungrateful.

Then his AFCON trophy winning performance will be tested.

  24. SD London says:

Plus if he is bullish enough , he will be better than even Vemalen.

Have you notice our guys collected more yellow cards than Bayern Munich in the last game ?

Even Mathersacker now dives at any shot, Koscieny has always being the only bullish defender we have and he has been rewarded.

If the captain doesn’t play on Saturday , I think that will be it off to Barcelona I guess.

I heard Fabregas was rubbish in their international game but all of Spain was rubbish anyways with Carzola an exception 🙂

But really, why is Fabregas’ game going down lately ?
Has it got anything to do with the fact that he snatched a millionaire’s wife and he keeps watching his back even on the pitch?

  25. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! How is everyone? rico, if we struggle to find things to talk about on intersnooze, imagine what off season would be like. Eeeeek. 😀

I have never heard of Oboabona. i’m sure I’m not the only one. 😛

  26. kc says:

    sd london
fab is going downhill coz like flamoney..he realy should had stayed at Arsenal…career wise..it would had been btter for him maybe trophy wise…………….

  27. rico says:

    I hadn’t either agag…

I didn’t know Jack was off twitter Wath..

Kc, someone here said Flamoney is playing really well now, haven’t seen him so can’t comment…

  28. SD London says:

We were lucky to get Carzola damn we would have been really white washed in the PL and be probably 13th now.

Giroud is becoming valuable now and Wenger knows it, his assists are match winners.
Strange to have a striker that might be better for the team other than scoring.

  29. emma says:

rico – the last one doesn’t go off. You will need to maximize the screen with the icon that looks like a monitor on the right hand side of the player

  30. rico says:

Off to watch the rest and then catch up with the soaps..

    Night Adam, Emma and all…

    ‘Til tomorrow….

  31. OgaAtTheTop says:

For Godfrey Oboabona, he’s a nice CB, he played 6games in the African Nations cup and the team scored 11goals and consided 4 (2run of play, 1pen& 1freekick)

  32. W.A.T.H says:

There a re a few good players in that next gen squad, question is can they kick on now and push to get into the 1st team….?
Akpom looks a proper player and Angha more a left winger than a fullback he caused havoc going forward.

  33. GoonerEris says:

Obaobona is only on trial and, if you ask me, he is unlikely to come in to replace any of the defenders we have now, except maybe, Squillaci or Miguel. He is still raw and may be a letter fit for Eastern Europe or at best, France (no disrespect, but I’d hate to see the lad come to Arsenal and not fulfil his potential for lack of playing time.

  34. GoonerEris says:

*any of the top 3 defenders we have*

Nice win by the kids, by the way. Now, for the chavs. It’s going to be from a Moscow based Russian side to one based in west London! 😉
