Farewell Bobby, Feel sorry for Stoke City? Well done Manchester United.

So, after several months of crazy football results Manchester United finally secured the Premier League Trophy yesterday.

Well done to them I say!

My own view though is that not one side in this English league ‘truly’ deserved to be crowned champions this season. Instead of it being a league about who would win the most, this year it really has been about who lost the least.

I know that sounds stupid but the results have been bizarre this season. No one team has stolen the show but when it came down to the nitty-gritty, Manchester United showed that had a little bit more than those around them when it mattered….

I guess that comes from winning, the menality is stronger.

I still believe though, it should have been ours and had we had just a handful of players who wanted it a little bit more, it would have been. Story of our season really!

A word about the FA Cup too – for the first half Stoke were totally outplayed and Citeh could have all but wrapped the game up but they didn’t. In the second half Stoke came out a much better side but when Yaya Toure ran his studs down the back of Wilkinson’s leg, I was stunned he didn’t see red, in fact he didn’t even get a caution.

From that moment you just knew didn’t you – and the inevitable happened when the same player hit the sucker punch.

Well, as much as we have had our battles with Tony Pullis and his side, they did themselves proud against a side that cost millions and millions!

Anyway, that’s my niceties over for today… 😉

Today we face Aston Villa and Chelsea are at home against Newcastle. To remain in with a chance of grabbing second place we need a Newcastle win and then we beat Aston Villa.

More realistically though, we need to secure three points to keep the new FA Cup winners off of our back, we need to make sure we achieve third place at least so the Champions League qualifiers next season don’t have our name in there.

There is one thing I hope Arsene Wenger does today. Well, two actually – the first being securing us the three points, the second is to sit down with Gary McAllister after the game and tell him just how much he wants to buy Ashley Young, a true Gooner.

Make it clear to Aston Villas that Arsenal will offer what they want for their winger and they can have Denilson and Nik plus a couple of million pounds if they want. Tell him to talk to Houllier, remind him how badly Liverpool treated him and how he shouldn’t be thinking of doing any transfer business with them in the summer, certainly not for Ashley Young!

We need him, most fans hope that Arsene Wenger believes we need him too, so go on Arsene, after the game today, make it clear that you want to buy Ashley Young and make sure they know you won’t mess about with the transfer cost.

It seems that any hope that we had for a new assistant to join Wenger has gone, rumours are that he will stay on for at least one more season. If the rumour is true, let’s hope when he does retire it’s on a winning note.

Wenger admits a new voice in the dugout would not go amiss, adding:

“Yes, we always need that and I am thinking about it as well.”

I hope that ‘new voice’ is Martin Keown or Steve Bould.

Finally, this could be the last time we see an old favourite of ours at The Emirates – Bobby Pires was and always will be very close to every Gooners heart – a wonderful player for us from start to finish. I’m sure all Arsenal fans will give him a warm and wonderful reception today.

I still miss him to this day…….

I’m not mentioning the march of protest, other than to say I hope it goes peacefully and has the effect which is intended and I hope the board at OUR club watch and take in what is being said.…..

Have a good day all, enjoy the game, let’s hope it’s a top perormance for the last home game of the season….

some of the main reasons why I think the march will not have its desired effect is cos despite the BMM saying it aint about wenger outm many going on the march are attending cos the see it as a way of calling for wenger to be sacked, also they are protesting about lack of revenue streams by the club but protesting about increased revenue from ticket sales, surely a contradiction, as is several of their aims, and on the subject of their aims, its too many, too varied and too wide ranging, should have stuck to one main aim, also its laughable how childish they are being over the PHW idiots comment, they say its their right to voice any critisim they wish, but when PHW is critical of them, they want him sacked, maybe instead of black scarf they should try kettle black pot

Morning rico,
I see your brave enough to put your wants on the line, and hope you are not disappointed. It appears that its all about Northern clubs this year, maybe they are tougher up there. Ferguson again must be commended, the man is a legend and deservedly so, he knows what it takes to become a winner and over the years has had his goals, catching Liverpool and passing has always been top priority for him. Also to put United up there as the best English club through success, and I don’t believe that any supporter anywhere does not have huge respect for his achievements. The man is a genius without doubt. They say he rules with a rod of iron and I can believe that. I had hoped that Arsene Wenger when he came would put Arsenal in the same Bracket as United, but Sadly Arsene’s chance has well and truly passed him by, his legacy however will be that he moved our stadiun a couple of hundred yds and made us financially secure, and got us into CL for fifteen years on the trot, for that well done Arsene. But Now Arsenes reign at Arsenal must surely be coming to an end. we will have to wait for a new manager, to put us in the same league as United, in fact several managers, if in fact ever. Arsene has been quite a vocal Manager in his time but not always to the supporter he keeps everything he does close to his chest. He had been taken to most supporters hearts in his time with us but many have now started to turn, the impression he is giving out is not for success on the park but success in the business side of Arsenal, and that will never go down well with supporters, so although the most successful Manager in our history, that kind of behaviour cannot continue.

Young is a winger, we have Nik B to play there. So that is a no go.

Keown will be mean to Arsene’s babies, do you think Wenger will want that?

I am giving this club one more transfer window to resolve this and get what plainly is needed before I just quit on them.

Sadly i’m not sure he does realise it. The Board are getting a bit twitchy that’s why someone had a word in his ear about trying to win the Carling Cup, but Arsene will plough on regardless, confident that he’ll be proved correct. I hope he is, but i fear he won’t and it’ll all end in tears.

I read a story in a magazine or newspaper some while ago maybe quite a few years ago, and what it said was with spiraling costs of players and how much money is in football a lot of clubs were spiraling out of control, and that a big club had been approached to try an experiment into self-sufficiency, the piece went on and said they wanted the club to do it on their own with no help from outside agencies any loans made by the club would be made with ideas that they could pay back loans and still stay self sufficient. I have wondered for quite a few years now if that club had been in London, owing to Islington council refusing all grants and help for our stadia, what’s your view on this article, and what could it prove to every body if it were true

Wenger said yesterday he’s not looking for players on the flanks because we have Nasri, Arshavin, Walcott and Bendtner. 3 of which are central attackers and one of which is a centre forward. So there is your answer regarding Ashley Young.

Nothing will be changing next season. Does anyone know of a bookie offering odds on us collapsing next March in exactly the same fashion?

Davi

It sounds bitter but I can’t help but think the game yesterday summed up the season for Utd as hernandez dived for a penalty and kicked the ball away. I can understand them giving it, but you can’t deny the kid has made no attempt to keep the ball and has just gone for the pen, and that there was no real contact from the keeper that wasn’t completely manufactured by hernandez.
I count 11 times Utd have avoided clear red cards this season. Imo that has made the biggest difference. Vidic scored the winner against chelsea when he should have been banned, and that has been the case several times this season. Rooney should have been suspended when he helped to knock us out of the FA cup, as another example.
I agree with the start of the article, though, no one has truly deserved to win the league, but I think Utd have just had too many things go for them. On play I believe we should have been a lot closer to the title than we were. There are clear flaws in the side, but there are clear flaws in the other sides too. Utd’s petulance and foul play are just not exposed as often because referees allow them to get away with elbows and handballs and flying kicks and 2nd bookings over and over. Fletcher pushed webb in the chest in the first game against us, and the referee did nothing.

Anyway, it’s over now, and next season will likely be very different from this. We DO have flaws in our side that will have to be addressed or our place in the top 4 will be in peril.

Davi
Davi

@rico – My impression of the FA is that they are relatively fair. I think they would have banned rooney for the elbow, for example, but they couldn’t because the ref wouldn’t report it. Unless the media flag up an incident like that though, I suppose the won’t act. They didn’t even question the Evans kick on Drogba last season, which I think resulted in a broken rib. I suppose the ref would have said that he saw nothing wrong with the incident anyway.
The only question I have on that is: who chooses the referees for each game- the FA of the referee’s association? Because Howard Webb for some reason referees the majority of games for Utd at OT even though he apparently is the kindest referee to them. This was in a BBC article.

Davi
Davi

I’m not sure either about the FA really. I think they’re weak, and unless an issue is flagged by the media, they won’t do anything, but the media is very pro-Utd in general, and there have been times that the FA could have let them get away with things, but chose to follow through.

Definitely agree the referee effect is not limited to the Utd matches. It is such a contrast, the way they are treated and the way we are, it’s a wonder we are anywhere near the title. Of course we get lucky with big decisions at times, but I don’t think we’ve participated in a single PL game this season where the referee mistakes have fallen in our favour overall. Always, or almost always, the net-gain goes to the other side.
The newcastle game was ridiculous. I don’t know why you say we fell for it though. Diaby fell for barton’s taunts, and the ref justly sent him off. Vieira did that many times playing for us, and we would usually still win -we never would have drawn that game, at least. We didn’t defend well enough, but the ref then gave them at least one penalty, let nolan off with the same offence as the diaby one, and then gave them a nothing freekick for their equaliser. We could have defended that one better, but still. I don’t know what we could have done to stand up to that unbelievable bias.

from http://www.eurosport.com
The club have failed to win in all six matches against Big Four clubs this season – the only other clubs without a win against them are Fulham and Wigan.
They have conceded 15 goals in these six matches. In total, they have not won in their last 11 matches against these clubs since a 1-0 victory at Manchester United in December 2009.
15:35 Since Arsenal last won the title in 2003-04, they have played 264 matches and picked up a total of 515 points. In these last seven seasons Chelsea (593) and Manchester United (587) have picked up over 70 points more than them – an average of over 10 points more per season.
15:30 Arsenal and Aston Villa have met 163 times in the league. Arsenal have won 66, Aston Villa 59 and 38 draws. They have met 37 times in the Premier League. Arsenal have won 18, Aston Villa six and 13 draws.
15:25 Arsenal thought they would be fighting for the title at this stage of the season, but instead they are battling to cling on to third place. The good news is that Thomas Vermaelen plays for the first time since September.
15:20 ARSENAL: Szczesny, Sagna, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Song, Wilshere, Walcott, Ramsey, Arshavin, van Persie… Subs: Lehmann, Denilson, Eboue, Chamakh, Henderson, Miquel, Bendtner… ASTON VILLA: Friedel, Walker, Collins, Dunne, Luke Young, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Delph, Downing, Bent, Ashley Young… Subs: Marshall, Pires, Agbonlahor, Albrighton, Bradley, Heskey, Cuellar… Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland)

We had opportunities to win the game. Contrary to what some may say, did not seem there was any player, little desire to win.
Taking a “hot”, the truth is that the team failed to score goals. Today he had the opportunity to score.
The first impression is that Arsenal failed to take advantage of the speed of Walcott and Arswavin, making passes to the backs of defenses. This forced them to play more centralized, with no room to maneuver and most importantly, they can apply their greatest weapon: its speed.
The second is the stubbornness to play with a 9
The third is that Song is very slow to implement what he think
The fourth is that week by week, found himself losing a goal. The next, is not to be in 4th
The fifth is that AW has finally made a substitution at the interval.
The sixth is that Squillaci is in two goals.
The seventh is that the referees’criteria vary between badges.
The eighth is that in the last four games we lose three, having won in advance who would be more difficult.
I’ll see a little of the Twente-Ajax …

Since the CC final:3 wins,5 draws and 6 defeats…any manager in Europe would get sacked for that.

Rico, I said 25% of all shots should be a goal.

So, we had today: 24 shots at goal.
We should get 50% of target so that would be 12 on target
And we should get 50% of those as goals so 6 goals.

Or, 25% of all shots should be a goal.

Fabregas out of Fulham while nasri has a little chance according to Wenger…sounds like cesc has already played his final game in the red and white shirt.

Thanks for info Steve. There’s not really anymore anyone can add to what’s been said over these last few weeks. It reminds me of the terrible run Terry Neill had when he said his team couldn’t beat a team of dustbins…
Will anything change? The word is Kroenke has given Wenger £30million. Add that 30mill to whatever he earns on Fabregas and SPEND IT…

Rico i know, but Cesc was always going to leave, i think he and Wenger came to an understanding last summer.

The problem is, who is gonna take our rubbish and pay them the stupid wages we pay them?

I reckon we have problems, more than what I thought we had Cesc is almost a cert to go and Nas Man also, replacing them is gonna cause us probs plus we need extra players in as well, Wenger has never had a time when he will be busier in a transfer window, if it pans out as it looks now, and Wenger does what he gets paid for, this team will look very different next year and when I say different that’s not saying better just different.

Let’s stop talking about selling our best players, let’s talk about getting players in as good as them and win the league.

Not Wenger out but someone with balls in and someone to question the FA on why we have so many bad decisions against us.

Stop to Think
A few months ago, said those who first reach 75 points won the League. It’s confirmed. Arsenal had that chance and failed. Who can not win over 20 games, can not be champion.
The second point that merits consideration is why Arsenal failed when he could get to a place or approach, and as today, set definitely one of the first 3 places.
The third point is because he feels it does best performances and results with the top clubs (MU, chelsea, spurs, m.City, Liverpool, Barcelona, etc) and it failed with the others. And here I insist on my theory that if I became particularly evident after some games and Braga-Arsenal.
The theory is simple. As you play a team that felt it was inferior to Arsenal? As an equal? No. That play good teams with which we balance results and we have overcome. The teams have changed their system of play. As in years past, for example, asserted eleven. But in a different way.
The difference was no longer defend as advanced. This allowed to create spaces behind, providing quick counter-attacks against Arsenal, to facilitate the rapid exchange of quick ball allowing Cancellations, running behind the ball to no avail.
The solution? Join rows. Do not stand at the front, but to defend with 11 entering the area, not allowing counterattacks, plenty of space for the movement of the ball, block and play aggressively. Against the team, that not gives up shots from outside the area, has no great advantage in corners and free throws, the ball always across the grass, avoiding the crossings to the area, where all progress is made through tables, the solution is to close all roads in block, make your opponent tired, tired as little as possible, because the initiative is alwais for the Arsenal, who is unnerved Arsenal, who wears it is Arsenal, who must seek solutions is Arsenal. And the statistics are worth what they are worth: more possession to Arsenal, more corners, more suffer fouls, more shots on the side of the goal, etc.
And the opponents play for a draw? No, not to lose. Do not attack? Attack. Exploring the set pieces and always putting forward a strong win for faults and prevent progression of defenses. If they can endure the first 20 minutes (where Arsenal played really fast and often earned advantage … but over time it lost that speed), gained confidence and trust in turn, in the last 20 minutes. How? a) Relying on tax and mental wear Arsenal b) placing a more advanced function, similar to what was playing.
With the loose physical and mental, Arsenal fail in lucidity, it makes more fouls, more cheer for the opponent. Replacements add little to the team because the game model no longer works. Physical strength begins gradually to excel to the strength of the technique. It is the “power of football”against the ” football power”. In times of fatigue, mental exhaustion, the inability to score goals, “football power” has always outperformed the “power of football. ”
AW did not realize this reality. I wrote a few months ago, in my opinion, Arsenal had to look and study the opponent and what was coming, where they were to see their potential weaknesses and put a team to meet those needs. Have you always played the same way, while opponents, technically weaker, adopted a more reserved tactics, investing in a more closed and defensive solidity and united using upwards, its main advantage: the physical strength. (“football power”)
Arsenal lost the league not with the “big five”but with all other opponents which requested a different way of being in the field.
