Ex Spurs man is definitely on his way to The Emirates……

Ok, it’s Friday and after our fantastic victory on Wednesday night, I thought just a bit of  fun today.

Come on Mr Official... All I want is one win, please help me .......

Ex Spurs manager, Martin Jol brings his Fulham side to The Emirates tomorrow for another evening kick off. Jol has never managed a league victory against us I think in all  his time of managing our noisy neighbours between 2004-07. I can’t see that there is a reason to think that record will change either, just because he has switched sides of London…..

We’ll worry about that match tomorrow eh?

Today is about a quick round-up of the gossip and stuff from the ever not so reliable journalists that get paid so much money to ‘guess’.

One bit of interesting news the Daily Mail broke yesterday and that involves the introduction of technology into the game. Football Association general secretary Alex Horne has said goal-line technology could be used in the Premier League as early as next season, if of course FIFA give the seal of approval.

Long way for that to go yet……

The same paper reports that we are one of many top sides who are interested in signing the new kid on the block – that is 15-year-old Spaniard Javier Gonzalez who has scored an amazing 20 goals in just seven games for Laredo SD’s youth team. Old Red nose is the odds on favourite to get his signature at the moment, well good luck to him, we need another kid like a hole in the head, especially a Spanish one who will one day want to go and play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid!!

Talking of Spain, Steve Bould has been talking about the home-grown talent, not only at Arsenal but in England and he believes we have what it takes to match them.

I really do believe that this country should be producing the best players in the world with the amount of money and facilities we have over here now.

The way the sums are going, we’re all going to have to produce players. And why shouldn’t we all? That’s our jobs.

We should be looking towards another 10 years. We can be another Spain – there should be no reason why not.

We only have to look list of players in our youth set up to realise he is perhaps not far off the mark but sadly, each season we think the next player is going to be ready to burst onto the Arsenal scene, they seem to be sold on.

They may have the ability but do the English players always have the right attitude to go on and do what their Spanish counterparts do?

There are a few that would suggest not……

Titbits:

Owen Coyle wants any bids for Gary Cahill to be made early in January and reports suggest £8 Million would be enough to secure the player, isn’t that what Wenger offered in the summer?

Lille have reportedly slapped a £43M price tag on Eden Hazard so that pretty much rules us out and Dortmund have confirmed that Goetze is staying put, at least until the summer.

Bit of injury news to end with and thankfully there isn’t any after the midweek game. Diaby hasn’t suffered any set-back and Kosceinly was subbed due to tiredness so he should be ok for tomorrow. Jenkinson should return in three weeks and Gibbs is penciled in for four weeks.

That’s it folks – you all have a good day all…..

Morning all
Nice one Rico, Touchline technology again springs up. I did read that Arsene Wenger wanted to use the technology for the Emirates cup but Fifa wouldn’t alow it, Wenger has always been a bit before his time, and i bet he saw it coming, Its about time people realised that FIFA will never agree to it, as it takes the power out of their hands, and they wouldn’t want that.

Would like to see goal line technology introduced, and for penalty decisions.

I would be suprised if Wenger changes the team that much for Saturday, he seems to have realised that team spirit is built up on victories like the other night, The team are riding high at the moment and they all want to play, subs can be used in the latter stages but the enthusiasm will continue. i hope he continues with that tactic.

Bonjour peeps, long time no…blah blah blah.

Great post, well beat the cottagers (ahem) 4-1 tomorrow. We always beat them 4-1.

And the spuds have got to drop some points soon, talkshite were bigging up their title chances last weekend?! Obviously as they don’t want to upset ‘friend of the show’ arry.

But seriously, have I warped back into november 1960??!!

Anyway I’m off to carnaby street for some new winkle pickers, get the new cliff and the shadows LP and meet up with a few ‘cats’ for a frothy coffee. Groooovy!!

TT

I am still seeing people clamor for Cahill! Why? What has he done to set the world on fire? Cahill only thing he has over our current # 3 top CB’s is that he is English. He has nothing other on Kozzer, Merts and Verminator. Spending 10 million on Cahill for him to sit on the bence for 50 % of the time is NOT going to make us better. On the contrary it will weaken us as the money and the wages spent on him will not be there for a attacking midfielder or a top striker and that’s where we need the additions. Also buying Cahill will again lessen the money we can offer Song, Theo and RvP to sign new contracts. IMHO we need a top ne CB at this moment like a hole in the head. our needs lie elsewhere.

TT
TT

God I give up…..we need a striker so lets go out and buy a CB 😉 Meh No one has ever given me any logical reason why we need 4 good center back but only 1 striker. You want a good CB to get us to 4 rico? Ok go out and buy Vertonghen. He is a CB with Ajax, a better CB than Cahill will ever be, he is versatile as he can play across the defense and also in midfield and on occasions when I have seen him play he has made verminator look soft…

I agree about Jack being play maker wath but there is room for more than one play maker in a team, someone that can open up defenses and provide short and long distance killer passes.

Hazard or Gotze spring to mind…or someone to replace Song as a DM and push him further up 😉 there we would have our Messi so we would be sorted 🙂

Hey WATH get off his back. He did play the ball back to jd who wasn’t alert. He’s too slow and lumbers a lot. Ship him on I say. He’s maybe the oldest player with us currently . How long has he been with us now?

TT

goonster JD was not in a good position to receive the ball, wath is correct that had Song not dallied on the ball and sent it up field or into the stand we would not have conceded.

As for Arteta and Rosicky I disagree wath, neither is what i would call a play maker, Ramsey would come closer IMO but all lack the lil magic that Jack and top play makers have…..creating something out of nothing.

Good morning!
I’d like to share your previsions for tomorrow but I’m always afraid of two consecutive games in the same week with minus then 3 days break and when line-up probably with the same team and versus a team completely fresh.
of course, fortuantely for us we are in a strong moment in all point of views. However, Fulham,Newcaste and spurs didn’t play this week. Even chelsea is worst because play early then us, M. Citu and M.United have more break time then us. Well, wait and see.
In other sense, I’m starting to believe AW don’t go to the market on January. A risk, again, like in the past. The goals everybody know.

I read somewhere the big importance of be in CL for Arsenal (and for all clubs…) Financial interest. For instance: win he european League a club receive the equal money of a Club be in the last 16th of the Champions League. And don’t forget we win money in a victory in all the games in the Cl … so a target for every year!

Thats deluded

Most spurs fan haven’t said we will win the league, we fancy ourselves to finish 3rd, and why not we have beat you and Liverpool and we sit in 3rd now.

You have a piss poor team getting carried by a miracle worker in Van Persie, we are getting goals from all over the pitch and are reliant on 6 players instead of 1 like you.

I wouldn’t waste my time coming on here, I generally believed you would be talking about how disappointed you are with being 7th in the league, turns out your all delighted with Arsenal and believe they are a great side.

If this is the case why are you sitting in 7th, can’t be that great.

Yes we will see in May and yes lets wait until we meet, you said this when we played you at the Lane and you guys lost 2-1 again.

You must be struggling in this resession if you can’t afford a colour TV, last time we won something was 2008, more recently than you, and before you write off the League Cup didnt 40,000 of you mongs travel to Wembley in February to lose to Birmingham with ya strongest team out.

I am a proper football fan, I knew you had better players previously but how you can say you have the better team now baffles me.
VDVaart, Bale, Parker, Modric, Adebayor, King, Kaboul, Ekotto and Walker would all start if any of these individuals was in your squad tomorrow.

But of course your Arsenal
Santos must be better than Ekotto
Gervinho is better than Bale right
Arteta is better than Modric
Ramsay better than VDVaart
Jenkinson better than Walker
oh and Mertesacker pisses all over King

Read it back and you will hear how stupid it sounds,

Szcielsny (apart from when Walkers shooting), VPerse and Vermealan are good beyond that your cack

hi… from http://www.eurosport.com
RVP hitting Henry-esque heights

Robin van Persie Arsenal’s defeat of Borussia Dortmund was, optimistically, the night when the Gunners were hoping to catch a glimpse of the future in the shape of Mario Goetze. Instead they got yet another dazzling reminder of who is driving their present.
The victory that confirmed qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League left Early Doors wondering if there is a striker anywhere in world football who is living as gloriously in the moment, and loving it quite as spectacularly, as Robin van Persie.
A leaping header – which crept across the line following a quite wonderful assist from Alex Song as the midfielder channelled the spirit of Garrincha for a fleeting couple of seconds – was followed by a close-range finish from Thomas Vermaelen’s flick-on from a corner as the Dutchman took his tally for his club to a deeply impressive 12 in his past eight games, and to 21 for the season for both club and country.
ED is getting rather used to saying this, but yet again it was the Arsenal captain who proved the talisman his side required in an otherwise unspectacular performance from the North Londoners.
Many questioned Wenger’s decision to install Van Persie as his new captain; many also questioned the decision to deploy as a lone striker a player that many sentimentalists expected to be the long-term replacement for Dennis Bergkamp, mainly due to his nationality of course.
But Van Persie is no Bergkamp. Instead, his prolific strike-rate and ability to manoeuvre the ball in all areas of the pitch, leaving his natural position to contribute to the build-up as well as finishing off moves, is more reminiscent of Thierry Henry.
That may be a daunting comparison to make, but Arsenal have not had a striker in this rich a vein of form since the smouldering Frenchman sauntered off to Barcelona in 2007, and ruthlessly extinguished ED’s strongest man crush. It was certainly fitting that Henry was back on Wednesday night, sitting along side his buddy Roger Federer, to watch the heir to his throne.
Dortmund boss Juergen Klopp certainly seemed smitten with Arsenal’s current captain in his post-match press conference, stating: “Van Persie’s performance tonight was just unbelievable. He is such a player … is he the best in Europe? Certainly one of the best. I’ve hardly ever seen a player who plays so deep in midfield and then is such a danger in the box.”
Wenger, now well versed in being effusive in his praise of the Dutchman, added: “He is in a period where of course he doesn’t have to look for goals – they just come naturally for him. He is always in the right place at the right moment and he got two goals again tonight from positions that look easy but they are not. He just understands the game so well.
“At the moment I believe that Robin is an exceptional player. He takes advantage of our offensive style from the wings. We create a lot of chances but I don’t deny that at the moment he is the one who scores all the goals. We hope we can keep him fit and with us for a long time.”
Not only did Van Persie’s brace ensure qualification, but the hard-fought victory ensured Arsenal top their Champions League group with one match to spare, just 12 months after they surrendered top spot in farcical circumstances and were inevitably punished when being drawn against Barcelona in the last 16.
Counter-intuitively after a summer in which they suffered significant trauma to their playing staff, it is Arsenal alone of the English clubs who have qualified so far. The more lauded talents at Manchester City, Manchester United and, to a lesser extent, Chelsea, are all yet to do so and face nervy evenings when the group stage concludes, City and Chelsea in particular.
From a club mired in crisis, defeated 8-2 at Old Trafford, Arsene Wenger has orchestrated a highly impressive turnaround. However, ED would sound a cautionary note regarding Wednesday’s match. After all, this victory was only achieved after Dortmund lost two of their starting XI to injury: energetic midfielder Sven Bender and the man many, including Wenger, were very keen to have a look at – Goetze.
Wenger famously has scouts traversing the globe, searching in every nook and cranny in every continent for youngsters he can throw into the Carling Cup with gusto. He is renowned for it. Well, that and myopia. But on Wednesday he had to only look 30 yards to cast his eyes over a 19-year-old who is mentioned ever more frequently in conjunction with a move to Emirates Stadium.
Sadly for Wenger, Goetze and indeed anyone with a passing interest in football, Germany’s latest sensation lasted just 29 minutes, his contribution limited to a couple of neat touches before a collision with the impenetrable Song left him with a thigh injury.
Though Wenger seemingly collects miniature playmakers like a nerd collects stamps – obsessively, meticulously – this was not enough of a cameo to give any real insight as to whether Arsenal will indeed attempt to tempt Goetze to England at the end of the season.
Even if they do, they are likely to face considerable competition for a player whom would easily usurp Andrei Arshavin or Theo Walcott to take a place in the Arsenal line-up.
But for now Goetze represents just one possible future; he exists as an Arsenal player only in a parallel universe. In ours, Arsenal have Van Persie, and at present he may just be the best striker on the globe.

But in truth it’ll probably be 2~1 with RVP coming off the bench to get the winner!

I am there with you AK. But I hope RVP wont be needed. I want others to score as well.

They ll be missing duff you guys so that ll be a licence for the santos and gervinho combo to wreck havoc on that left side. Etuhu and murphy ain’t the fastest players in the league. Barring the fatigue from wednesday we should thonk them. Rico am really looking forward to the spuds game at the EMS. Had chamahk put those chances away last season they could have been at the end of a hiding. I can’t wait though boy are they gonna get it. COYGs rip the scums to bits.

I would still like to see Santos playing on the left wing, Goonster. He wreaks havoc playing as a left back, what can he do if he plays on the wing with no defensive duties to mind? Mind you….he already does that although not so often as he used.

Good night Rico.

Hope you have a good shift AK. A busy Christmas means that you can live a better life!

DG if santos plays on the wings…..who plays at LB?

I know Goonster. That is why I do not want another winger to be bought if AA goes. I would prefer another left back bought and he can rotate with Gibbs. Santos would make a really great winger with no defensive duties on his mind. And his experience as a left back means he can simply help out.

We are very “short’ in that department. If on gibbs wasn’t injury prone. Right now I don’t think he ll get the shirt of santos anymore. Our Brazilian wizard is here to stay. I love him so much.

Now that ll be something else DG….well like I said previously. I don’t see us getting anybody in january or in the summer. Like wenger ll say “we have a large squad”. If he doesn’t sign anyone, I for one won’t be losing any sleep.

I know we have a good squad Goonster. But if it were for me I would still tweak it and remove some of the players. I would certainly sell on AA. Dont get me wrong I like him. But what’s the use of keeping him when we play him out on the wing and out of position? We play 4-3-3 and AA is not suited to it. We need to play 4-4-1-1 for him to flourish. So either play him in his proper formation and position or sell him and get a proper winger/striker.

DG we ve got campbell coming back in the new year or maybe in the summer. I don’t see us getting any striker as for wingers? What ll happen to ryo and the OX? No chance. No signing till 2013!

Don’t forget afobe park and chamakh are still with us. We won’t be signing anyone in a while. Brace up.

Campbell is a central striker. I agree with what you said….but shouldnt we be getting the best in every position instead of waiting till the 31st of FEBRUARY for them to mature???

Anyway we can only dream he does. The rumors around geanero seems to be gathering pace. Hope we get him but I don’t think we will. We are well stocked in the middle….with LJW to come back in January. We won’t need players in the middle. I ve been wrong before though.

Rico; 7.54.
Totally agree.
About time a few of Robin’s teammates shared the load.
Namely Gervinho Walcott and Chamakh if he plays.

Don`t lose sleep then Goonster! I will lose enough for both of us, picturing the possibility of RvP and TV being injured at the same time. Surely AV must share our ambitions? He must have cover for key men. Perhaps he jests? Perhaps Podolski and Vortongen hav e already signed? I`m gropeing{?}
here. You`ve hot spell
ing as well.
