Enjoy the ride Robin! Fergies money could make us even stronger, yes, stronger than them…

Just over a year ago……

Am I angry with Robin Van Persie?!

Do I hate and detest him??!!

Will I look forward to the visit of Man Utd, anticipating an afternoon of Robin baiting???

Well, no to all three of the above, because my over-riding feeling towards our ex-captain is one of sadness and disappointment.

Disappointment because I thought that Robin was a man of substance. A loyal man, a bigger man, a man who realised what he owed to Arsenal Football Club and in particular to Arsene Wenger.

A man who was above the petty money-grabbing behaviour of the likes of Samir Nasri, Mathieu Flamini, Manu Adebayor and Gael Clichy…

A man who would buck the trend.

A man who would stand by the club that had stood by him during some of his darker days.

A man who knew the value of honour.

Disappointment, as I believed that Robin was his ‘own man’…

A man who would not allow himself to be manipulated by his Dutch Agent and English representative Darren Dein…

I mistakenly believed that he was a man who could think for himself.

But Robin, you are none of the above!

You are a man with no substance.

You are a man of straw…

All the badge kissing and the heart thumping was simply playing to the gallery. They were the public exhibitions of a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Therefore, you have truly found the perfect stage for those values, at the Theatre of Bullshit…

A match made in…. Darren Dein’s office!

So Robin, in Manchester United, are you joining a club on the up or a club descending deep into the throes of terminal decline?

Robin, you may temporarily slow or halt that decline but I smell the smell of a rotting carcass coming out of Old Trafford.

I’ve seen it all before Robin down the other end of the East Lancs Road.

The decline is hardly noticeable at first but then it gathers momentum and before you know it you will be sharing the abyss with Liverpool.

Robin, enjoy the ride, and of course the money…

In the meantime Gooners, let’s sing along:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin
Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep ‘em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the right side of life…
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the bright side of life…
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(I mean – what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life…

Now Arsene, don’t be tight, spend the money which Old Red Nose will be giving you and then you can gloat about how Manchester United made us a stronger side and not the other way around….

    Great post AK.
Who was last seasons #10 again??
Give his shirt to Podolski…..a man who knocked back twice the money to play for our club.
Yes,players playing for the love of the game still do exist,so let’s get behind our new man,our new #10,our new top goalscorer!!
Funny……I’m much, much less pissed off than I thought I’d be over RVP selling out, just disappointed he wasn’t the man we thought he was,and I’m not Robinson Crusoe in feeling that way.
Still, our new #10 will have something RVP never did……Cazorla!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. rico says:

    Morning all,

Great post AK, I felt like that when I heard the news, but we all knew it was coming, just a matter of time…

Now the club can look to the future with players who want to be at arsenal and hopefully add one or two more to them and we’ll have a good season..

  3. Billboy says:

Well said. This sums up my feelings exactly. But is this now typical of the majority attitude in football? A sentiment of “ME, ME, ME” seems to permeate the game from FIFA right though to shareholders, agents being a particularly odious breed. Tic birds on the arsehole of football.

  4. mattyboy86 says:

Dunno i would love to see another striker but someone of his calibre to rub it in there faces…. Hate Manure fans my office is full of them and you could imagine the reception i got this morning!!
    :-(“””

  5. rico says:

Matty – he hasn’t said that, he has just said that Pod and Giroud have been bought in to cover our loss.

We still have Chamakh, park and Nik to sell on, as they go, I honestly believe we will sign another attacking player.

Lee – thanks for the Spike input this morning 🙂

  6. mattyboy86 says:

You rate him that highly ? I would much prefer MIrallas.. If a loan was to occur that would just show how low the club really is.

  7. emma says:

    Great post Allez
    GM Groovers,
Song next, Barca in town today
heard Song has being a naughty boy that’s why Wenger is willing to let him go.

  8. ifecx4real says:

Scott, missed being d 1st to comment, who is sallim? and rico wondering if your working towards a mobile version of your blog

  9. Scott from Oz says:

Oh,and my mum,who has no real care for football, reckons we’ve made the signing of the decade……who is that tall, gorgeous hunk of a man…..GIROUD!!!!!

  10. emma says:

rico – Heard he has being throwing tatrums in training. The only difference b/w RVP and song is he hasn’t come up with the infamous statement. He will be going for 15-18million hopefully. Another good piece of biz

  11. Canadian Gooner says:

Allezkev — Your on fire mate! Two days of shear eloquence and genius. Little more needs to said. Keep up the good work.

As soon as RvP’s contract with ManUre is signed, sealed and delivered; I wont waste any more thought or time on him. My only concern now is how the club invests his transfer fees.

When he comes to the Emirates don’t boo him, it will only rile him and may encourage him to try harder to score against us to silence the crowd. Let him be met with a deafening and dignified silence. Let us show him the Arsenal club, fans and team have class.

  12. vernat1066 says:

Morning, sign Theo up or ship him out, sign Arshavin up to a two year extension and play him behind the striker where he and Cazorla can do serious damage and buy Felliani from Everton with the R$VP money and maybe Dempsey with the Song cash?

  13. boomergooner1727 says:

    Morning all,

Great post. It really sums up the way a lot of us feel this morning. I’ve got no plans to burn the guys jersey, partially because I never desired to own one, but I feel DEEPLY disappointed that our loyalty was not repaid. Leaving for manure will disgust some but $ity would have been about the same for me; either way he followed the cash. I’m sure these next few days will be spent grieving but we’ve got to move on and get behind the current squad.

Hopefully we can get song’s situation resolved soon and add to the squad because my hopeless optimism still makes me think we’d have an outside shot this year as things stand. We have a lot to look forward to and with a cdm and additional striker we’ll definitely challenge.

  14. ifecx4real says:

Rico, a version for phone, cos most times it isn’t queit easy reading and navigating tru every1’s comment while using my phone.

  15. rico says:

Well said CG… Don’t waste any more breath on the man, he’s history…

As long as he passes his medical today of course and Fergie offers him the right wages…

  16. southyorkshiregunner says:

Nice post Kev. Morning Rico, Emma, Scott…

I got in late from a meal out with friends last night and went trawling through the web-news of what we all knew would happen. Arsenal wouldn’t have the balls to lose out on a cool £25M, now £24M.

However, one thing I read was that Van Persie tried doiing the “U-turn” post Cazorla but got knocked back by either Wenger or the club. I don’t know where I read it as I’d downed a bottle of red and half a dozen lagers. But it was a reputable source.
If true, you have to admire the clubs stance.

Anyway, life goes on. Our biggest transfer to improve the team would to get rid of Song.

I may stay clear of the curry house tonight as I’ll have a gloating Bengali Man Utd loving owner chucking smirks at me…

  17. boomergooner1727 says:

Cg – I’m all for your no booing idea, wish it were actually possible, not that he doesn’t deserve it

  18. rico says:

    B1727, I’m over him already 😉

Morning Syg – would love to know if that U-turn story is true, it would make a lot of difference to the way fans see RvP. If true, it shows his statement was very true…

  19. allezkev says:

That Rico, has to go down as one of your best ever, if not, the best, piece of sub-editing ever….

    Great song lyrics by Lee…..

And the picture, i saw it yesterday, it really is so poignant…

    Morning You Gooners….

  20. Canadian Gooner says:

boomergooner1727 — I know it would be hard to institute or enforce. There will always be a minority who will want to boo; but if the majority could co-operate on silence I think even the ignorant minority would fall into place.

  21. Scott from Oz says:

    Rico,if it’s true,it changes nothing imo.
He put shit on our club when he released that statement, and there was no coming back,I believe.
it should never, ever have been released to the public.
It was the death knell to his Arsenal career, whether he wanted it that way or not.
He mightn’t have realised that a the time, but I’ll bet Dennis Dein did.

  22. bondex says:

morning all….good post kev…..Rotten Vile Poison has finally left …a part of me feels distraught and the other part feels good…we have capable players now…the CAZ scored yeterday..he is a fantastic buy…

  23. ktr7 says:

Good read.after a good almost half a day of sleep i’ve woken up feeling much better.f**k him,we are Arsenal.we are due a win at Old Trafford and next season is the best time for it with him on the pitch.

  24. southyorkshiregunner says:

Hiya Lee mate I didn’t see you there.
Rico – I will try and find it – I know I certainly read it !!!!

I am not a fan of Myles Palmer as he comes across as a closet-Man Utd fan who thrives on his pedantic self-praise .. But a stopped clock is right twice in 24 hours.

    Cop this.

    http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php/news/2597/30/Arsenal-stronger-without-RVP-Song-if-Wenger-buys-experience

It is what I have been saying all pre-season.

The best transfer business we as a club can do is get shut of the losers, the deadwood …

  25. vernat1066 says:

If song goes then that should mean that the club is clear of the Darren Dein infestation that has damaged us, which would be a good thing,

As for R$VP U turn changing how fans view him i don’t see it he publicly insulted the club the manager and the players and then when the rest of the world were not bowled over by his magnificence and didn’t beat a path to his door he backtracked pure and simple.

I don’t hate him and I am thankful for his contribution whilst he played, some of those goals were simply awesome the volleys against Charlton, Liverpool and Everton however he is the past and not worth worrying about.

Lets move forward and get players who want to be at the club in and support them and leave the past where it should be.

  26. rico says:

But is that factual emma, that’s what we don’t know for sure….

Scott, it would make a difference in my eyes but I also understand if others don’t feel the same…

  27. allezkev says:

And if my Man Utd hating cousin Ray, is having a peek today.
Chill out cuz, we’re gonna do fine this season….

  28. alanbstardmp says:

why is everyone against him taking the money? This is what you get with the internationalisation of the game. Kick the foreigners out and return it to tribalism, otherwise you have mercenaries

  29. Ryan Westcott says:

Makes me sick to think he said those things about the time he FINALLY began to pay dividends for Arsenal. He wasn’t worth £70k a week when he made these pandering remarks, but now that he is finally a “superstar” loyalty isn’t as meaningful as £200+k a week. It took him 18 months to stab Arsene and Arsenal in the back. Apparently he just can’t handle fame. He”d be great in politics

  30. southyorkshiregunner says:

Nicely put Vernat. Very nicely put.

I never wanted Anelka to go, but a couple of days later we had both Henry and Suker…

Life as an Arsenal fan goes on ..

  31. clockendjim says:

Well said Allezkev, this sums it all up beautifully and I am already whistling – wasn’t Eric Idle the best bit of the Olympic closing ceremony !
Today’s news was the moment I was dreading once upon a time and now it is here I feel a sense of great relief and for several reasons
    1) I know it was only Cologne, but the Arsenal side that played in the first half with all our new signings looked streets ahead of the one in the second when listless RVP came on and Song continually gave the ball away – I would like to see another £20m for him in the Arsenal coffers
    2) Will United get an injury free season out of him? At the ripe old age of 29 I somehow doubt it.
    3) Will he and Rooney gel or just get in each others way.
    4) RVP was not great in his last few games for us and frankly terrible for Holland in the Euros. Is he a player in decline ?
    5) United did not need another striker; they have little creativity in midfield and without the return of Scholes would have had a really poor season. RVP would have been far better off staying and playing with Cazorla (thank goodness he is ours now) lining up the chances for him
I just hope that Arsene spends some of the loot. I am still worried about the goalkeeper situation. I am not convinced Szczesny is absolutely ready for the PL and the back ups of Mannone & Fabianski are scary.
Anyway – all together now Gooners ‘Always look on the bright side of life (whistle, whistle,) …………………………

  32. ktr7 says:

It seems to me we would’ve kept him if we wanted but i feel that statement was the last straw.it seems to me Wenger has been preparing for this since May and according to BBC Rvp was told he could leave after Cologne match in which AW saw lots of positives.AW pushed him out for that statement;he crossed a line and the boss was ruthless.maybe the glasses are a good omen.

  33. emma says:

Is Theo stalling on a contract extension? Does anyone has an idea what is going on. Arsenal should set a deadline otherwise we lose out at the end. Transfer market

  34. rico says:

Good Kt, was a tad concerned for your ticker last night…

    Thanks Syg, seen it now..

Well said vernat, good riddance to darren dein …

  35. allezkev says:

    Morning Bondex, cheers.

KT, that’s better mate, we have a great squad of players.
    we’re gonna have a great season…
That’s why RIP wanted to stay!

  36. rico says:

Arsenal ace Thomas Vermaelen could not hide his disappointment after it was confirmed Robin van Persie is set to join Manchester United.

The Belgian stopper admits that it is a big disappointment to lose his skipper on the eve of the new season.

But Vermaelen remains confident Arsenal have a squad in place to win silverware next season.

“I am disappointed because I wanted him to stay at the club,” he told Sky Sports News HD.

“He was fantastic for us in the last year, scored lots of goals and I am disappointed he is going, but we have to focus on the next season with Arsenal. We have to fight and I am confident we have a squad to win something.”

Vermaelen admits it is a good thing that Van Persie’s future has been resolved prior to the start of the Premier League season this weekend.

“We start Saturday and this is all clear now, Robin is leaving and we have to move on,” he said.

  37. ktr7 says:

Vermaelen: “Ultimately it might be a good choice for him. It is what he wanted. I’m confident that we have enough qualities to cover.”

Vermaelen on RvP: “This is a surprise for me. A shock, I’m very disappointed. I’d have liked him to stay, he was very important for us.”

  38. Canadian Gooner says:

emma — Whether RvP was offered a new contract or not, at the end of season meeting with Wenger and Gazidis, is immaterial. I’m sure RvP made that unnecessary after he had expressed his views in the meeting. After that meeting he posted his statement on his website and left it up for at least three weeks. Any possible recent about face was too little – too late.

It’s nearly a done deal, being subject to a medical and personal terms. Let us all move on and look forward to the future not back at the past.

The big questions now are who would we like to see signed and who are we likely sign?

  39. allezkev says:

Alan MP, is Ashley Cole foreign?????

All players are, up to a point, mercenary, it comes with the nature of the job. One injury away from no career.
    Fabrice Muamba for example….

  40. rico says:

    Hi jim –

looks like we won’t be getting a keeper doesn’t it, fabianski said yesterday he is ready to fight Ches for the number one spot. Seems the keepers are doing a lot more training with the defence and working on crosses, something which has always been fabianski’s weakness

  41. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Got it Rico.

    chrome://newtabhttp//www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19179833

It is understood Van Persie was encouraged by the arrivals of Germany forward Lukas Podolski, France striker Olivier Giroud and Spain midfielder Cazorla – to the point where he was open to the idea of staying with or without a new contract.
But Wenger pulled him aside shortly before Sunday’s friendly victory over Cologne, told him he would be sold if a deal could be reached and informed the Dutchman he was no longer part of his plans.

  42. rico says:

emma – Theo must see he has more chance of getting a central start this season, i’m hoping he stays…

Chamakh though is in no better position, he won’t get too much playing time, i really hope he goes…

  43. Billboy says:

Seems to me that being made captain is your cue to be the next departure saga. Why do I want Diaby to be the new captain? Seriously guys, who should it be? TV looks to be the popular choice. Does it really matter? have we really had a captain with his heart 100% in it since Tony?

  44. southyorkshiregunner says:

Chamakh may try and hang it out ….
Ewood Park is no Emirates ….
Just hope Wenger tells him he’s not in HIS plans…

  45. bondex says:

If our defence can be come compact and not as useless as it was against tiny tots,or Norwich..the we can at least draw back 15 points from the 19 last season .

  46. ktr7 says:

Hi AK and a blinding read.I feel AW has grown tired of developing these players only for them to stab him in the back.Look at purse strings;rape charge, defiant youth, crock…he did not even believe in himself that he could play the lone striker role only AW did.How does he repay him?…

I feel thats why we have seen a change in purchasing trend and am sure AW is hellbent to prove the snake wrong. We can now have a more balanced squad.Spread out the goals.Gerv/theo no longer have to pass to 1 player all the time, they have to take responsibility.

From what I saw against Cologne Poldi has the right attitude. You could see how happy he was in our colours;you could see it in his eyes.He knows he has it all to prove at club level and this is his chance.Poldi10 is Batman,f**k Robin.

  47. rico says:

3,000,000 hits and HH is not even two years old –

Well done guys and gals who click on the headline each day and come and get involved in what i believe is great debate and good fun each day…

    Thank you everyone…..

  48. allezkev says:

SYG, that BBC reporter seemed to writing his piece as if he’d been given an interview by someone ‘off the record’…

Comes across as verbatim to me!

  49. ktr7 says:

    David Ornstein ‏@bbcsport_david

Arsenal not currently in market for RvP replacement, they feel attacking business is done. Possible move for right-back/defensive cover #afc

  50. bondex says:

what if Rotten Vile Poison told AW: ok i see you have new signing and says why don’t you pay me 200k and then we can begin the new season and live happily ever after…..it doesnt change my view about him..

  51. allezkev says:

    Well done Rico…..

Did you ever imagine how this thing would take off 2 years ago….???

Your House rules make it the success it is…

  52. Scott from Oz says:

    KT,next time I spruiking a player,put your money on.
    Go Podolski!!
Guys, this is off topic, and coming from an Aussie.
Is Brett Holman getting any decent reviews yet?
I’ve seen a few Villa Games on their TV show…I can get it in Oz….and he’s killing it so far.

  53. ktr7 says:

RIP has already at least 5 goals in the PL next year…you know,Penalties.Webb has already pre-ordered RIP shirt.

  54. southyorkshiregunner says:

Did you read the Myles Palmer thing I pasted, Kev.
Van Persie going is not that bad.

Ferguson must be an idiot to give the heads up to that deal…. Saying that, he hasn’t passed his medical yet …. and look what happened with Van Nistlerooy – he got sent back!

  55. Terry says:

its sad news for us but we can move on… we have some very good players we need to sell the deadwood soon: top priority would be to get rid of chamakh, squillachi, nikki b and park. After that we can decide what to do with arshavin. i would not sell him at the moment we have AOC and walcott injured. i would play arshavin as a CAM and santi on the right wing against Sunderland. my team for sunderland would be:

    Gerviniho Giroud Santi
    ——-Arshavin——
    –Song —– Diaby—
    Gibbs Vermy Mert coquellen
    ———Schz——-
i think this is a good team and we can slowly slot in Podolski as and when the match progreses.
our bench looks really week at the moment: Flappy, Ramsay, Pododlski, djouru, santos, yennari, bartley and jenko are the only back ups we have at the moment.
Sgana, Kozzer, Rosicky, Arteta, wilsahre, frimpong, walcott adn AOC are all injured at the moment.
    MAJOR CONCERNS:
    1. The only midfielder we have as back up at thye moment is Ramsay
    2. A injury to Mert or Vermy or coquellen and we are screwed like last season. Djouru, Bartley and Jenko are not good enough back ups. Djouru may be he can improve his game but i have serious doubts about Bartley and Jenko.
3.Flappy in our back up. His name says it all.

  56. Scott from Oz says:

AK,I’ve attracted plenty of new members…why so surprised lol
    Nah,it’s the best forum around.
Here a few other great ones, but this will always be number 1.
Plenty of credit goes to the great members, but RICO is Queen!

  57. allezkev says:

By Saturday KT, none of us will give RIP a thought.
    I know i won’t…

What are your feelings on the Hernandez link KT..?

Deal might be in the pipeline whilst RIP is having his medical?

  58. allezkev says:

From all over the world Scott, but why no more Aussie’s???
Are most of your fellow countrymen plastic Scousers and Mancs?
    Gotta spread the word Scott….

  59. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Another Aussie import?

He scored a couple of goals in pre-season, Scott

The best Aussie import after Rolf Harris !

  60. ktr7 says:

For a club that has so many financial issues they sure do spend alot.Rvp and Shrek alone if reports are to be believed will be earning 1 million pounds every fortnight!!!!#insane.

  61. rico says:

    Scott 😆

Terry, AW is still looking to sign players, I strongly suspect it will be a defender like VdW or similar who can play anywhere across the back line..

Also, the injuries to Ox and Theo, well I doubt there is much truth in them, just AW keeping them from last nights silly friendly…

  62. Ik says:

Thank goodness he is gone now.Just waiting 4 him 2 sign & then gets injured in a freak accident in his bath tub.

  63. Scott from Oz says:

I realise I’m in the huge, massive minority on this Fabianski.
I’m loving the fact he’s coming out fighting, and telling us he wants #1 spot.
I’ll say it again…he’s technically one of the best keepers I’ve seen.
If he can fulfil his promise, and drop that monkey off his back,he really could end up our best option, and everyone knows what I think of Szczesny,so thats not a knock on him.
I’m not sure he can become all that he can be,but I like what I’m hearing….it’s a start.

  64. ktr7 says:

AK Hernandez is a very good poacher and thats it.He has no creativity at all, cannot dribble past his man and average shootng technique from outside the penalty box.He got found out last season and thats why red nose plays Welbeck ahead of him. When he isn’t scoring he contributes very little.

  65. rico says:

You are right Scott, you are in the minority 😉

Kt, he’s a far better option from the bench though than Chamakh, and he’s good with his head. I’d be happy if we get him…

  66. allezkev says:

SYG, i don’t usually read Myles Palmer, but he makes some interesting points…
I was also as interested by who AW sold this summer, as i was by who he brought in!
Not sure about selling Walcott, we don’t wanna lose too many bodies in one go….
Any news on Sahin, has he actually signed for the Scousers?

  67. Scott from Oz says:

SYG,Kylie is considered average looking here lol.
AK,there are plenty of Utd fans, and of late, there are Citeh shirts everywhere…..funny,that!!
I actually don’t know too many Gooners.
If I come across anyone worthy of HH,I shall recruit them.

  68. bondex says:

scot never knew fabianski had a monkey on his back…can imagine what the monkey tells him when he is in goal… 🙂

  69. tomstoned says:

fine post Allezkev..and it in many ways sums up my feelings too..worrying trend though players jumping ship like rats..and always our top players…why cant they be as loyal as park or chamakh ???
im all good with this business because i have accepted the New Arsenal..money is far more important than the football…
and i do allow Wenger his small lies..its no biggie..replacements here and there everywhere…
selling club..hmmm..well okay then..but lets be the best at that !!

  70. Scott from Oz says:

If,and it’s a big if,we ever do see the best of Fabianski,I’ll remind you of this conversation Rico….you know i will lol.
SYG…I reckon any clubs fans would love Holman….he’s a goer.

  71. ktr7 says:

I’m with Scott here.Fabianski is technically better than Szczesny. He is miles better in terms of distribution. He only lacks Szczesny’s presence which is vital.Presence gives defenders calmness;Fabs makes everyone nervous including himself. If he had Szczesny’s presence he would be absolute class.

  72. Scott from Oz says:

Bondex,he’s got something or someone whispering in his ear “you’re no good, you’re no good”,and the trouble is,he listens to it.

  73. southyorkshiregunner says:

My wife’s uncle lives in Elemore Vale near Newcastle. His barber’s apparently an Arsenal fan. I sent him a shirt over a few years ago.

    Kylie? Lol. Like your style.

  74. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico — Congratulations on the the new hits count “3,000,000 hits and HH is not even two years old”. That’s in part because you and your/our community live by the motto in your banner head “Where it’s OK to disagree”.

It is good to be able to have a rational discussion of club issues without being put down or suffer personal attacks just because you have an alternate opinion. You and the regulars set a tone of tolerance and inclusion. That’s not to say a poster wont be taken to task for their postings, but is generally done in a friendly and constructive manner. Keep up the good work everyone.

  75. rico says:

Kt, talk is he is part of the deal, we’ll have to wait and see…

hi tomstoned – £22m for a 29 year old in his last year of contract, that’s pretty good selling 😉

  76. Satan says:

    hey rico-housers.

Sorry m typing via mobile. Out for few days.

Just one word for Robin to utd. Heartbroke. I remember i had this feeling when broke up with my gf. It took me 2 years to recover from that and left me with burning feeling to be something extraordinary in life n after that have become something with longway to go. I hope afc does the same. We must prove ourselves n for that we have right person at the helm.

  77. allezkev says:

KT, you never know about Hernandez?
Mourinho had to give us Gallas to snare Cole, and he really didn’t want to do that…
Depends how desperate Fergie was to get his man?
He did phone up Wenger personally, so it shows he was pretty desperate…

  78. Scott from Oz says:

Lee,I love that email…….thanks for having it sent.
Did we ever think we’d be comparing RVP to that bastard Nasri??

  79. rico says:

You guys seen RvP when SS’s tried to interview him last night??

They said, ‘Robin, a word for the Arsenal fans’

    Nothing……

  80. boomergooner1727 says:

cg- I wish I lived over there to join in. Silence would unnerve himq more than boos although the latter could still prove effective.

My final thought is that he is the sad excuse of a coverup for a club’s silly finances and will be irrelevant in no more than 2 years.

Right, moving on, anything new on the transfer front? Capoue? In my dreams, Jovetic?

  81. ktr7 says:

Good rico.He knows how disappointed we are with him.I’d rather he just went and never speaks about us,the club or AW in any interview he ever does.Of all the players that have left us he has been the worst considering all we’ve done for him.

  82. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Fabianski.

The majority of all Premier League goalkeepers are good. Of this there is no doubt.
What makes them “not so good” or “great” is their decisions. Decisions when 50,000 or so are looking at your positioning on a free kick or corner or whether to come out and collect or not, or whether to pass it wide to a defender or to just clear it into row B.
A goalkeeper makes a mistake he gets vilified. He knows that.
It’s a pressure thing. It’s massive, and if the HEAD can’t handle it then he’s bollocksed.
Its the head of a goalkeeper that makes the goalkeeper great.

    http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KViapbGxGo

Fabianski never had time to think about that save. It was a natural reaction. Given time to think about the situation – he flaps, hence his nickname….. and Drogba rounding him in the League Cup Final bordered on amateurish.

But, Arsenal are full of mental midgets. Diaby, Song, Djourou take your pick..

  83. rico says:

Just realised that RvP didn’t even get a mention on International watch on afc.com for last nights games….

  84. ktr7 says:

“It is difficult for someone like me who has an Arsenal gun sealed to his chest, not just to pat on the shirts” Bob Wilson

  85. Canadian Gooner says:

boomergooner1727 — “I wish I lived over there to join in.” I share that wish.

As for Capoue, he looked good when he came on in the second half against Uruguay. He seemed to smooth the tempo and flow of France’s game. A lot of the play transitioned through him, he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet, regained possesion many times and passed with accuracy and ease. He did concede a foul and collect a yellow card, but it was deep in Urufuay’s end.

If sahin doesn’t come to us, I think we will buy a stong disciplined Dm and a CB or FB.

  86. ktr7 says:

Red nose is desperate to win the PL and thats why he paid so much for RIP.His judgement is clouded by the fact that they had already been rejected by Hazard/Moura.He wanted to save face andhe would’ve paid anything to get him.

The mancs failed to win the title because of their poor CM options not lack of goals.Let him worry about City,he won’t see us coming.

  87. southyorkshiregunner says:

I’ve trawled through all the European sports broadsheets. Nothing re: Sahin in any of them since yesterday.
I hope Liverpool don’t get him – The waiter behind the bar is a smarmy-Liverpool fan. He’s also an earwigging-pervert too !

  88. tomstoned says:

Rico hope your doing well…true true..its a good sell..agreed but we tend to be good at that..selling..to bad that seem to be our ambition mate..im not going to bang on with my opinions ..its getting a tad boring…and most know where i stand..;)
but all this selling will come back and bite us…how many kids around the world do you think loves barca for their top players messi etc..
im afraid we-re loosing out…our fanbase should be growing..not decreasing…
nope Rico imo The new Arsenal are loosing on every front..
but ive learned to forgive Wenger for his little lies..its ok..replacements here, there and everywhere 😉
im havin a harder time accepting the fact that we’re being reduced to just another american business model…
lets all be fine Gooners and have some class..lets not boo, lets get behind the company, and its working staff..
in my silly mind i believed Wenger&co whgen they told us the move from Highbury would make us be able to compete with the best..the creme of football..how stupid was i..not knowing that it would also include selling our best players every year ??..hmm..
Rico we both know our football and the importance of keeping a team toghether for years..thats how you create a winning team…
i leave you with this Rico….
Wenger on the dead mans ;)situation :
We have not buyed players to replace ***
and yesterday..we have already recruited to replace ***..all those lies..i love wenger but i wouldnt trust him with my misses cat..

  89. Scott from Oz says:

I reckon Sahin wants out for good, but Mourinho is telling the world he wants him long term, hoping to drive up the price.
Bugger a loan, get him for good.

  90. Scott from Oz says:

    All this selling Tomstone??
We’ve sold one great player, but hae brought in 3 rippers.
    I know you’re talking over a few seasons,but we’ve bought brilliantly this season,and it’s not over.

  91. Steve says:

I understand all that’s being said this morning – I can remember how I felt when Frank Stapleton took the same path.

But, I don’t think I will feel the same anger for Van Persie if next May we are still holding a cheque for £22m and Utd win the EPL and Arsenal fans are told ” fourth is as good as a trophy” – again !

  92. Canadian Gooner says:

SYG — Re: “But, Arsenal are full of mental midgets. Diaby, Song, Djourou take your pick..” I have to agree with you about Djourou. He would play well for a stretch, like in the Champions League a few years ago, then he would have one truly bad game and totally lose his confidence. He got the wobbles and was shattered every time he played against Diddler Drogba.

  93. Wale the gunner says:

Rvp, does not worth the stress. I hope his family will be able to walk freely in public, without being insulted. Atleast Na$ri doesn’t have kids, its really a bad move, he may forever regret.

  94. rico says:

tomstoned, those two comments from AW are conflicting but no doubt last night when asked about spending, he didn’t want to say yes, i am now in the market for a striker…

All that does is tell the world to put up the prices as Wenger and Arsenal have money…

Let him get the money in, and then lets see what happens over the next few days….

  95. tomstoned says:

    Scott mate..
i hope your right..that we have bought three rippers ;)me ill have to wait and see…lets hope so though
my main concern with all this selling and buying business apart from us clearly being a selling club who cant keep our best players ,and even besides us being expected to balance the books and NOT reinvesting..(where does the money go ??)
is simply this ..look at all great teams trough history ..whats the main thing..what is the essence of them all…well they have kept the players together for a longer period of time..that is and will always be the main factor of success mate..well one could argue that Mourinho is abit different..but he has the freedom to buy what he wants…

  96. Micko says:

    Morning all,
We’ve seen some great partnerships down the years but “Fatman and Robin” takes the biscuit for me.
Might have to dig out my Life of Brian dvd later while i’m at it.

  97. southyorkshiregunner says:

Steve, fourth is never as good as a trophy. The only thing that’s as good as a trophy is a trophy.
I keep on saying it, the best bit of business Arsenal can do as a club is to alter the central dynamics of the team and ship out Alex Song and the rest of the deadwood.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/everton-boss-david-moyes-opens-talks-with-53m–kevin-mirallas-8050548.html

    A piece re: Miralles.

He has had talks with us, and now he is talking to Everton.

The mirror quoted that HE HAS A PREFERENCE of club. That club won’t be Everton unless they’re offering him daft money.

  98. ktr7 says:

Why would Arsene admit we are after a striker?…that would be a daft move.I wouldn’t be surprised if deals are already in place elsewhere and the RIP issue had to be sorted first.

  99. Scott from Oz says:

To stoned,I see your point, but let’s face it,you couldn’t really say RVP has been a long term member of anything but the medical room lol.
We have a relatively young squad now,so let’s hope they grow together and enjoy some success.

  100. tomstoned says:

Rico..im sure your right and it would make sense..still those little lies seems to follow Wenger around..but as i said im still behind the genius..even though i think he should stick to building the best Arsenal team ever..nothing more..
but Rico have a think..if that is the true meaning of wengers words…have he once again left it terrible late…and we do loose alot of kids over this havoc..
and that will eventually be a disaster..

  101. bondex says:

I feel more confident now than i was this time last season….we have experience now and the good thing is that as it stands now,no one player will be totally indispensable…even manure don’t have as much options as we do now even with Rotten Vile Poison in their ranks…

  102. tomstoned says:

    Scott no worries mate..;)worse things have happened…last year everyone thought i was having an omelett with some rather strange mushrooms every morning..thats having opinions for ya ;
so lets as you say hope it turns out ok…we should be ready to rumble i the new year then as wenger tells us it takes a good solid six months for new players to adjust ;)lol

  103. allezkev says:

SYG, David Moyes has a good eye for a player mate…
If Moyes is after Miralles, then he must be good…
    £5.3 million, is great business.

  104. EastSidePaul says:

Scott I wussed out in the end, but I will indeed buy it some point soon!

Is the Sunderland match on the tele this weekend?

  105. rico says:

Steve – man utd will struggle to get 4th this season…

    Hi Micko..

Popping off for a while, back later…..

  106. bondex says:

wale …. remember hleb…he left for the “best club in the world”…even Viera got relegated at juventus….

  107. Micko says:

Scott, have to say if Fabianski stays at Arsenal he never be the number 1 for his country, he may move yet.

  108. Scott from Oz says:

I know, well,I reckon :),Cazorla and Podolski will hit the ground running.
I believe Giroud will be a terrific player for us,but may take a little longer.
Gervinho will be a different player.
I thought last year he was so intimidated by RVP’s reputation that he wasn’t game to take on a shot unless there was asolutely no other option…..that’s not a strikers mentality.
Theo may well get his shot at playing central.
Cazorla will knock in 6-8 goals, and set up plenty.
We will score more goals his season than last,we just need to stop the bleeding of goals, soft goals.

  109. bondex says:

i agree rico…..manure have no dept….manure – Rotten Vile Poison & Shrek = 5th on the table…whats the use ,RVP scores a hatrick ,against stoke but is out for four months.

  110. Scott from Oz says:

Micko,I’m not suggesting Fabianski will ever get over his anxieties, just saying that if he ever does……
ESP,get one mate…..if you don’t like it,send it over here!!

  111. boomergooner1727 says:

Cg – I’m new to regularly commenting here but have you been over for a match? Le boss has some Plato-esque reasoning for why touring north America would be detrimental to the club but every year i keep my fingers crossed.

I didn’t catch the france match but from what i hear that guy is worth the hype and I’ve read an interview of him expressing interest in leaving, guess we’ll see. If we signed anyone from Toulouse I’d fancy sissoko but either would do.

  112. boomergooner1727 says:

I think arsenal should target whatever striker spuds look at after they get their mored*ck cash, THAT would lift the fans’ spirits; kill 3 birds with one stone (pun intended)…

  113. ktr7 says:

    Off twitter

Theo Walcott’s contract talks have progressed well, he will sign a new improved contract. #Arsenal

Song & his agent are permitted to discuss with Barcelona

  114. Scott from Oz says:

Song will fit in at Barca.
Every player there does his share of defensive duties,so Song can let it slide!!

  115. bondex says:

“bring on the new season. Bring on Manchester United on November 3rd. Van Persie is a great striker and we’ll miss him, no doubt. But just as we coped without him for all those years he sat on the treatment table we’ll cope without him now”…tmh.

  116. allezkev says:

    I’m feeling good STV, thanks….
It’s a beautiful sunny day down here on the South Coast…
Really enjoying the positivity on here today STV…
and why shouldn’t we be positive…
RIP going was on the cards, but we still have a great squad of players.
And i’m sure we’ll have another one or two signings before 31st August…
We cannot get too depressed every time a rival signs someone, it happens.
M’Vila to Spuds, on the face of it, is a bummer…
But you gotta ask why we aren’t signing him?
we all know he’d prefer Arsenal, so there has to be a reason…?
Spuds don’t pay more wages, so why?

  117. emma says:

Dont see us getting m’vila. Wenger has gone cold on it. There is something we don’t know that made wenger to drop out of the race for m’vila

  118. allezkev says:

ESP, Wenger might have earmarked a replacement for Song, who none of us have heard of..?
Biglia, we don’t hear about him anymore…
    Just saying!

  119. ktr7 says:

Seems like we are the ones willing to sell Song. The boss is in ruthless mood this summer. The professor is back.

  120. EastSidePaul says:

Kev I wouldn’t be surprised if that replacement is Diaby, who WILL be injured in the first week of the Season..

Would love to see M’Vila and Sakho come in.

I guess Cazorla will play behind Giroud and not on the wing? Hopefully..

  121. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Gary Jacob
    Sports reporter, The Times
    September 1999 – 2012

To stay at Arsenal, Robin wanted £250K per week plus a £5M loyalty bonus …. a new right back and a new centre back

Bacary Sagna, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Koscelny are all good solid players …

Reading between the lines he’s a greedy bastard but he also reckons Jenkinson and Djourou are shite?

    http://www.linkedin.com/pub/gary-jacob/1/159/a82

  122. allezkev says:

Paul, i can’t blame ya for thinking that, maybe AW sees Coquelin as Song’s replacement..?
OK, Coq isn’t a sexy big signing, but that kid can play!
I don’t see Diaby as a major player for us Paul, more just as a squad player, who can fill in, as and when ( if he’s fit? )…

  123. Wavy says:

Anyone remember David Herd? He was the first cf to go from Arsenal to manure, round about 1960, he improved them and we didn’t win anything for another 8 years or so. Then Stapleton, I was really deflated then, we were just making real progress and now RvP. All in all it weakens us and strengthens the opposition, not for long though, not this time, some clogger will have him and he’ll be on the mending table – again. so Manure will be no better off, we will to the tune of £24m + add ons!
    What goes round comes round.
I think this buy has been done by a senile old git desperately trying to get one over on City, cos they said they wanted him, so old red nose has pissed on their party! Well we’ll see.

In the meantime we’re not so badly off, it’s not brilliant but I think the squad is more capable and has a more balanced look to it than any squad of the last 5 years or so.
    Here’s hoping

  124. TT says:

Forget Hernandes he is not an improvement by any means on what we have. What we need the most is a good DM and a cover in defense. And you all talk about Podolsky and Giraud and Carzola feeding them balls but someting stood out to me watching the Cologne game, someting that made me sit up and take note, someting that actually got me exsited. Namly the inter play between Carzola nd Ox….thats going to be something huge for us I believe.

  125. southyorkshiregunner says:

Looks like Song gets closer to the exit door Emma…

Wenger’s brinkmanship with Barcelona re: Song

Wenger playing hard to get !

  126. TT says:

    ktr7 says:
    August 16, 2012 at 12:14 pm
It seems we had to get rid of him.Can you imagine telling your boss your workmates are shit??

LMFAO I do that all the time 🙂

  127. STV says:

Its because our Wenger is too thoughtful Kev, when it comes to transfers. Ok he is the Professor, but he should think less about the profit/loss how to get cheap how to fit in the player, interest of the club what he like to do.. so forth. Just em

By the time he doing these it’s time some one else gone with the player. We’ve seen the case of Mata, Cahill seeing Mvilla’s

  128. Scott from Oz says:

TT,we are all talking about them because they’re the new boys.
We’re not forgetting those we have.

  129. TT says:

You misunderstand me Scott its not that they cought my eye its actually the oppesite. I see a massive partnership developing between Ox and one of the new boys. Poldi and Giraud are fantastic but the combo of Ox and Carsoa really gets me going.

  130. Scott from Oz says:

I’m not having a shot TT,just that we are all excited to see the new boys go around.
Everyone knows I love Podolski, but Cazorla will probably be even more influential for us.
Ox will enjoy playing alongside him, because they’re two peas in a pod…..one world class player, one a world class player in the making.
We are going to tear sides apart at times this season.
Just tighten up the defensive side, and we will not go into a single game scared of the result.

  131. southyorkshiregunner says:

KTR7. When one of the ex-Arsenal lads pointed to Van Persie looking around the dressing room etc….
Even in Sunday pub football we know who’s shit and who’s good, and who the managers favourites are.. It can’t be any different at professional level…

Wenger can condescend to us mere mortals about us never being managers in the game for half a day etc.. But me, I know what is good and what is shit and what is great and what is average, as do a wide variety of fans and bloggers on here…

The 90% feeling on here is 1. get rid of the deadwood

    2. Then sign Sahin

    3. Go for either M’Vila or Capoue for the anchor midfield.
    4. If we want a proper fourth central defender then Sakho, the majority feel is your man.
    5. Promote Yennaris in front of Jenkinson or go out and buy a proper right back.

    Five moves to PL glory.

  132. ktr7 says:

    Ott twitter:

On Tuesday I was informed the Sahin deal hinged on the confirmation of the RVP to United deal. 1 needed to go, he was closest to exit.

  133. southyorkshiregunner says:

    I do Micko, I do.
Last week we were all shaking hands and patting each other on the back then WALLOP.
But things in football can change.
Remember ARSENAL NEVER NEGOTIATE OR EVEN PASS COMMENT IN PUBLIC RE: TRANSFERS

Get Sahin in, and the mood will change.

  134. allezkev says:

    Jamie Sanderson‏@YoungGunsBlog

AS reporting that Real Madrid have convinced Nuri Sahin to go to Liverpool over Arsenal. Looks like this one is slipping away.

  135. ktr7 says:

AFC one of the few remaining clubs who don’t give in to player power. AW ‘furious’ after statement, RVP’s days were numbered. Commendable.

  136. Pat7 says:

I’m pleased he’s gone. I would have liked him to start the season to ease in our new recruits but £22-24M – it’s no contest for a player most, including me, would have sold last season or before due to his weakening the squad with his sick-bed record.

We had his best I’m sure last season & I can’t believe Fergie paid that sort of money (+contract with 200+K/week) for him – he could be crocked again in a fortnight. The rot has started at Old Toilet & I’m sure now that Fergie will be replaced next year: his judgement has gone.

I was concerned when there was talk of us offering him a bumper pay deal, happy with the thought of letting him see out his contract and adding year by year like DB10 but now ultra happy at the final result.

I can’t wait to see the further recruits & our challenge for the title this year! COYR!!!!!!!!

  137. Steve says:

    SYG,

As Myles Palmer said earlier, selling RVP & Song could be a great opportunity for Arsenal to move forward or an easy way to bank £35-£40m.

Based on recent history I am not holding my breath.

  138. allezkev says:

    Matt Chapman‏@MattChReport

@YoungGunsBlog Brendan Rogers press conference was asked about Sahin & Tello, with a smile he replied “we’ll see in the next 48 hours”.

  139. allezkev says:

KT, could all be smoke and mirrors….

But Mourinho hates Wenger, and that’s the major obsticle to Sahin joining Arsenal imho…

  140. ktr7 says:

I know AK.Though i hear Sahin prefers Arsenal. He rejected spuds since they had no CL.so why would he join pool?…

  141. southyorkshiregunner says:

That AS news was published yesterday. Sahin wants Champions League football and we have offered the right money. As Kev states there is only one obstacle. The special child.

  143. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Wayne Veysey’s just said:

Barcelona have indicated they will meet the Londoners’ valuation of the midfielder in a development in negotiations between the two clubs.
Arsenal are ready to give the 24-year-old the green light to become the fourth player in five years to make the move from Emirates Stadium to the Nou Camp.

  144. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

    Afternoon guys…

A defensive midfielder and a versatile attacker is what I want. M’Vila and Jovetic would be ideal.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

  145. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I very much doubt it too. If the Jovetic deal went through, that’d be a real two fingers up at RIP and also to anyone else doubting our ambition.

    Ah well, one can dream.

  146. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I honestly love him KT. He has got to be one my fav non-Arsenal playes. He reminds me of a young Baggio. I think he’ll end up at someone like Milan/Inter/Juve though.

  147. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

One of the players to benefit from the RVP departure may be Arshavin. He needs to play in the hole and work on his fitness though.

  150. southyorkshiregunner says:

I hope you are right re: Arshavin, Pele.

A couple of Germans barking orders at him, might do the trick to get him motivated

  151. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I bought him on my FM manager game KT – I spend way too much on that, girlfriend isn’t impressed!

Late night SYG! Up to anything nice? I would definitely be burning an RVP top too if I had one!

  152. Romford Pele (formerly HC) says:

I hope so too SYG – if we’re not signing, we need to look for decent internal solutions.

  153. Joaquim Moreira says:

    afternoon all!
    Sahin – Liverpool – confirmed
    Llorente – Juventus
    Song – close Barcelona

  154. boomergooner1727 says:

Jovetic to ac/inter makes too much sense if the club sell and they’ve said they would. If he has a monster season he’ll go somewhere besides us and we (well, at least I) will be extremely jealous. The kid has all the necessary tools to become a superstar. I don’t claim to be an expert but I think he’s one of few who could take our offense to the next level, no offense to the new boys.

I hate working on days like this. days when I would have loved to join the discussion early but at the first opportunity I find that there are over 290 responses before I even get here. Unfortunately I have given up trying to follow the previous posts so my apologies if anything I say is already well covered.

Well don’t I just feel a mug. Just a few hours after yesterday posting that this could all be some dastardly plot by RVP to destabilise our rivals before signing for us this happens. If i think of what I consider to be the great betrayels by players on this great club over the last few years RVP goes into the mix with Cashley, Adebayor and Nasri. Even before last night I had started to put Ashley’s more into perspective in view of the RVP situation and I now have, to some degree, had a rethink about that one. Here was a born and bred English gooner come through the ranks who actually supported the club as well. Ashley didn’t cover himself in glory in having meetings behind our back and the way he put it across in his book but if as was said we had agreed a £60kpw figure with him to then drop it to £55kpw for no reason we were not exactly blameless and I could also understand his feelings of feeling undervalued if the club was prepared to rescind on the verbal agreement they had. The figures with Ashley also pale into insignificance compared to what we were prepared to offer RVP.

Nasri and Adebayor are an irrelevance for me because I didn’t consider either to be quite in the world class bracket of Ashley and RVP, and also I felt the latter 2 were far more through and through gooners, which always hurts more. Furthermore these 2 went for the money which in Nasri’s case is obvious even if he tries to deny it. At least Adebayor made no bones about it being about the money which although still makes me think of him as an odious twat, in another way is at least refreshingly honest.

This brings me to the point about why I feel RVP’s is the biggest betrayal of the lot. Not only were we offering him an obscene amount of money, especially when you consider it compared to the figures where Ashley’s deal broke down, but also it is now obvious, at least to me, that RVP was all about the money. This, imo, makes his betrayal worse than Adebayor because as said the latter didn’t try and disguise it as anything else, while RVP was fully prepared to destabilise the whole club with his statement purely to force his move and to try and con the fans into believing it was for other more noble reasons. How nauseating does that statement seem now with all its silky words about love and respect for the club, manager and fans. I think AW has worked miracles to bring in the quality players he has considering how RVP painted the club to the world.

I for one always have a great nostalgic feeling about seeing the great ex servants of the club when they turn up at games in obvious support of the club they call home. I remember big Tony last season at the ground, just before a game, on some official business and walking through the tunnel when he spots a camera and turns to it in midstride and shouts come on you gooners. With a nostalgic tear in my eye I thought what a legend. Players like him TH and DB will always be welcome back and that must be a good feeling for an ex player.

RVP is and should be now dead to the club in this way. I know AW normally likes to remain friendly with ex players no matter how much they have let him down and encourages the fans to show the same respect. This is just not realistic and it should purely be the fans feelings that matter in these circumstances. That is why RVP must never be allowed to be welcomed back to the Emirates or London Colney in any capacity, not because he should feel threatened by the fans, but because he has severed all his ties with us in the worst way possible and it would be disrespectful to the fans to do so and would be disrespectful of the club to allow it to happen. There is no way any fan can have a good feeling about seeing him anywhere near our great institution at any point in the future.

Maybe this does not bother him, and maybe it is not important for him after he has retired to feel he has a club he can always turn up at that he can call home and where he is idolised. Maybe he will get this at Utd over the next 3 years but I somehow doubt that. It may sound like i am bitter but I am not as I am more disappointed by how this sorry scenario has played out. In a strange way I also feel cleansed and ready to move on. If the potential deals on Llorente and Sahin come good we will have an incredibly strong squad which should challenge in all competitions. A squad that should in no way be looked at as inferior to either Manchester clubs. There may be a settling in period which may cost us some points in the EPL early on and may affect our ability to end EPL champions this year, but if these 2 were added we could have a team that is capable of being one of the best in the world over the next few years, so come on Arsene finish off the good work you have started and onwards and upwards gooners.
    End of Rant.

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal have their sights firmly set on a strong start to the Premier League campaign.

The Gunners endured a difficult start to last season with just three wins from their opening eight matches but recovered admirably to secure third place and Champions League football.

Arteta is adamant the Gunners can hold their own against anyone but warned that a positive opener against Sunderland could be key.

“We have to start better than last season, that’s for sure,” he told Arsenal Player. “We also have to try to keep players fit for longer than we did last season and not concede as many goals.

“This is all possible and from day one we have to think that we are as good as the other teams. I don’t see other teams as better than us, I know my team-mates well.

“If everybody is fit, comfortable and ready for a fight then I think we can handle it.”

Arteta, a transfer deadline-day signing from Everton last summer, enjoyed a superb first season at the Club and quickly endeared himself to the Emirates Stadium faithful. And with a year in north London now under his belt, the Spaniard hopes there is plenty more to come.

“Every year you are trying to improve your numbers and how you can help the team,” said the midfielder. “We will see what the boss will ask me to do. I always try my best and that won’t be different.

“It was a crazy day when I joined the Club. The week before I signed there was a lot going on with the big defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford and suddenly a few players joined on the same day.

“We tried to rebuild very quickly and we did well to get it back but this year we can move forward and everybody has that ambition. I can feel a different atmosphere, the Club is stable and the fans are excited. That is what we need.”

Abou Diaby says his passion for football kept him going through the dark days of last season.

The French midfielder struggled with injury throughout the 2011/12 campaign, and was restricted to just five first-team appearances for the Gunners.

Added to a series of fitness problems since he joined the Club in 2006, such disappointment might have been terminal for a lesser character – but the 26-year-old says positive thinking helped ensure that he feels fit and focused for the new campaign.

“It’s never easy to deal with these situations,” Diaby told the Official Matchday Programme. “I love football, love playing the game, and just want to enjoy it.

“When you can’t do that it’s obviously really difficult, but what makes me stay focused is the passion I have for what I’m doing. Every morning when I wake up I’m really happy to drive in to the training ground, come what may. I always wanted to play football at a high level so no matter what happened, if I was having a bad time I would just look forward constantly.

“At times like that it’s really important to have support from your manager, team-mates and the staff. I have to say thanks to all of them, because they’ve helped me a lot and I really appreciate it.”

Diaby featured in all four of the Gunners’ pre-season games in Asia and Cologne, and believes that he is in ideal shape to make the impact that his talent has always suggested he is capable of.

“I’ve had a successful pre-season, I’ve been fit for every training session so far and I’m really happy with how things have gone,” he said.

“If you want to get through the whole year you need to have a good pre-season, and I haven’t had one like this for a long time. I’m really glad about that, and hope that the work I’ve done will see me through all of the season.”

RVP – it’s just that Nic Anelka thing all over again

    By Tony Attwood

I appreciate that to many Arsenal fans of a younger vintage, or perhaps converted to the cause by the success and high profile brought to the club by Arsène Wenger, might not remember or even know that once upon a time we had a forward called Nic Anelka.

But Anelka is important in the history of Arsenal, because he established a pattern that we have seen repeated many times since – and which we are seeing now with RVP and his transfer. A pattern which, in fact, has been the bedrock of Arsenal’s success in staying in touch with the Billionaire clubs.

In February 1997, Nic Anelka aged 17 joined Arsenal for a fee, eventually agreed at £500,000. When Wright was injured Anelka took over and was significant in the Double win in 1997/8. Indeed he scored in the Cup Final – which endeared him to many hearts, despite his seeming lack of interest in the club or its fans. ( I can remember watching Anelka score for Arsenal at Coventry, and seeing his total lack of celebration or enthusiasm as he trudged back to the half way line, saying to my mate Roger, “that kid has real personality problems.” Not my most definitive psychological profile, but one that was made long before we started calling the lad “Le Sulk”.

Having won PFA Young Player of the Year Anelka demanded a huge hike in salary (I seem to remember his brother was his agent) and all sorts of other stuff too – so Arsenal transferred the lad to Real Madrid in the summer of 1999 for £22.3 million. He won the Champs League with them, but quickly fell out of favour and started his tour of the clubs of Europe, as Real Mad threw away some money transferring him back to PSG, who in turn ended up paying about 30 times what they had sold him for, eventually selling him on once again for less.

  202. bondex says:

Rico,i wish him everything i wish all manure players….ak the picture doesnt bother me…..rotten vile poison bought on wednesday, injured on monday..that is the end of rotten vile poison

  203. allezkev says:

This “sell a player on for a mega profit while bringing in the next likely lad” was new to us then and seemed curious. And what we now see as the normal “Arsenal is a selling club” nonsense, was started up by rivals for the first time.

However what us old timers remember is that Arsenal used a bit of the Anelka cash to build the new training facilities, which were the foundation of our new youth policy. Oh and we used half of it to buy Thierry Henry in the same transfer window. (T Henry worth half N Anelka! Amazing!)

The pattern has been repeated over and over again, with players coming in on the cheap and being sold on for crazy prices. Even what seemed to be pricey purchases like £11m for Henry (“pricey” it seemed because at the start he had difficulty in locating the goal) turned out to be bargains – especially when we recall that Henry, with injuries, was sold to Barcelona for €24 million – and cost them almost half a million pounds a game thereafter.

Vieira went on to Juventus, who were then relegated in a match fixing scandal – again for a huge profit. Barca got caught also with Hleb and Overmars – the latter being sold to Barca carrying an injury which eventually finished his career. He cost Barca €40.6 million (having cost Arsenal one fifth of that amount) and managed just 99 games in those four years – which when his salary is added in, worked about at around three quarters of a million euros a match.

There are many more examples – but in one case, Flamini, Arsenal were caught out by a player refusing to re-sign. It didn’t do Flamini much good – he managed 78 appearances in four years with Milan, many as sub. But his salary of 22 million euros over that time has made each appearance cost Milan over a quarter of a million euros, and helped push them into financial difficulty and a need to restructure to meet FFP regs.

  204. allezkev says:

lamini of course only had one great season with Arsenal – his last – but even so Arsenal were, I believe, determined never to be caught again in this manner , and so decided to deal with players who wanted to leave, before the contract ended.

So players near the end of the contract were to be sold on but always at a massively high price, that allowed the club to bring in more money to buy more players. And it was to get this high price that supreme reluctance to sell had to be brought into the mix. No, no, no, you can’t have Nasri! No! OK, all right, because we’ve got Arteta for a lot less both in terms of salary and fee paid.

However one question arises from this ploy – namely why do the clubs fall for it? After all they must know that most of the Arsenal sell-on players cost them a fortune, and don’t play that many matches – and of course eventually get sold on for a much smaller fee (or in the case of Hleb, are virtually given away).

(Actually there is a second question – why do some people believe that Arsenal are reluctant sellers – but that’s for another day).

The answer to the first question is that the clubs are buying not just for the player’s worth, but also to impress the media and the fans. The media love transfers because it ups the level of sales of the papers. And the fans want to see their club being “ambitious” (a word introduced into the footballing vocabulary by agents who are also keen to promote their clients’ interest).

So RVP to Man U gives a chance for lots of “Arsenal in despair” stories, although very little in terms of commentary on the fact that Man U have just paid £22m plus four years of mega wages for a player who next summer they could have had for free.

  205. allezkev says:

Also they have just paid £22m for a player whose injury record is awful. True he played 48 games last season, but before that he was much more restricted. Of course if you are quite sure that he will reproduce that approach again this coming season, that’s good, but even so, the cost is about £60m in terms of transfer fee and salary. Is RVP worth £60m for the gamble of one brilliant season and several slipping away seasons? I doubt it.

But Man City have backed Man U into a corner over this one, through all their purchases, and Man U fans are happy because they perceive that they have got one over on both Arsenal and Man C. But in fact it is quite possible that they have done neither, tying Man U into a very expensive player who they will never be able to unload if he ever gets injured again.

Initially I had the feeling that this blog was the only place where the vision of selling players from Anelka onwards was seen as a brilliant positive move. However I was amused yesterday to see the joke going around that Mr Wenger had been arrested for stealing £22m from a befuddled old age pensioner. Maybe others are starting to see it this as another example of the Anelka Principle.

Which takes us back to Anelka himself. What was better – to take the money and spend it on Henry and our new training centre which is still considered one of the best on the planet, or should we have held onto a player who didn’t want to be with us?

Of course we don’t know if RVP will be injured in game 2 and only manage 10 matches a year for Man U (while still taking his salary). Of course we don’t know who Mr Wenger has up his sleeve in terms of the next transfer.

Time will tell, but in the past Mr Wenger has been right (think of players from Bentley to Adebayor) – little to no cost to bring them in, huge income on selling them on. The past speaks hugely in Mr Wenger’s favour – my guess is that he has indeed done it again, and that RVP’s name will slip away from the Man U hall of fame, just as the memory of selling worthless shares on the New York stock exchange will hardly be recalled as one of the club’s finest moments.

  206. Lewis says:

Just been browsing the Utd squad and the arsenal squad as it stands and barring maybe full backs and back up strikers I’d say we start the season as at least their equals on paper. Chamug and park aren’t up to being back ups so would really like to see another striker added, utd beat us there, they will have Rooney, RVP, Hernandez and welbeck. We ‘ll have giroud, poldi, chamakh and park. Don’t think Jenks is good enough yet so an RB is a must IMHO.

Anelka’s parting shot at Arsenal, he was being treated worse than a dog by Overmars and Bergkamp, they wouldn’t pass the ball to him, nothing to do with his money grabbing brothers.
As for your 4.02 kev, that’s why the board are more than happy to pay AW 7 million a year, in the grand scheme of things its peanuts.

  209. rico says:

Like Syg says Kev, good signing for Manure, but this has to be a better deal for us…

Imho it will be IF AW spends the money on a DM and versatile defender…

  210. rico says:

I wouldn’t ever do that Kev, just because its not my wish, I really understand why others would feel that way – don’t worry, honest 😉

Theo Walcott expected to sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal soon. “He loves it here”. #AFC.

  212. vernat1066 says:

With regards to back up strikers, we have not seen Park, and he has not had a run of games so i won’t judge him, Chamakh just seems to lack that final piece of devilry or perhaps intent consistently. given his start for us while R$VP was injured it is obvious he has quality but you just feel he does not impose himself on a game as he could give his physical presence.

Arshavin if he stays could well be the key to our season, hopefully he feels now that he is more important to the team and that he will play centrally, if (big if I know) then he is more than capable of scoring double figures and adding that many assists. I hope that Arsene sits down with him tells him he is important and offers him an extension to his contract and a promise of playing centrally.

Perhaps then he could be one of Arsene’s infamous LANS. I still would like to see a midfielder coming in Biglia from Anderlecht looks a good player and would be the right age and price to help Coquelin Frimpong et al to develop. Not sure about goal keepers i would have liked to see some experience come in and historically this is one of Arsene’s blind spots with the notable exception of Mad Jens.

All in all though we are in better shape than last year (not saying much) and i think we could have a good season with the players we have.

  213. allezkev says:

There’s a photo of RVP standing next to Ferguson holding up a Man Utd shirt, and boy, RVP looks miserable…

Kev, what a wonderfully-written piece. 😥 You know I was soooo late for work today. Ick. I got in at 10:30. Haha.

KT, glad to see you’re better. 😉 🙂

    Hello, all! 🙂 🙂

  215. rico says:

BS – not sure re Sahin, he wants to join us and not the dippers, let’s wait and see…

Same with M’Vila or Capoue, if Song goes, I wouldn’t bet against one of them joining us…

  216. allezkev says:

Thanks Agag, but Rico/KT were responsible for the graphic and Lee the lyrics, a team effort, as usual… 😀

  217. rico says:

Song has three years left on his contract, but will be offered better terms to commit. Up to him now. Club happy to offload him

  221. allezkev says:

The Gunners boss has spent the last seven days deflecting questions about the future of the 24-year-old midfielder, with Spanish giants Barcelona keen to recruit him this summer.

Song, who has three years left to run on his contract, is happy in north London, but his agent has made him aware several big clubs from across Europe are monitoring his progress.

Wenger is said to be furious Song’s agent is actively looking to move the player out of Arsenal, and wants to meet with the Cameroon international to discuss the future on a one-on-one basis.

It is understood Arsenal have already told Barcelona they will not sell Song on the cheap, after vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu flew to London for talks on Wednesday.

Arsenal, who kick off their Premier League season against Sunderland on Saturday, want reassurances from Song he is part of the long-term future at the club, or they will consider offloading him to the highest bidder.

The news comes less than three months after Wenger moved to offer Song a new contract, after pin-pointing him as one of the key components of his new-look side – although formally negotiations have yet to begin between the two parties.

Arsenal would be willing to sell Song if he openly expresses his desire to leave at the meeting, and have already compiled a dossier on potential replacements, with Yann M’Vila, Etienne Capoue, Victor Wanyama, Lucas Biglia and Kara Mbodj among the defensive midfielders watched by the club’s scouts in the last few months.

I would have you know, I worked until 10:30 pm, Micko. 😉 😉 Quite a hectic day; that’s what you get for coming in laaaaate. 😀

AK, ha!! 😛 Where are those photos?? I wanna see Robin trying not to grimace holding up his Manure kit. 🙂

Someone (cough *rico* cough) is thrilled re: Theo’s extension, I see. 😛

    Hiya, vernat!!

  223. agirlagunner says:

Funny, the ones who have had the most torrid time at our club have been the most respectful towards us: Eboue, Almunia…

I honestly doubt Mrs vP is happy about this move. She doesn’t come off as those typical WAGs; and was very involved with our charities.

I am looking forward to Saturday too, KT. It’s been much too long.

  224. Will says:

How are you Rico. I have to congratulate you, you have the best Arsenal blog on the net. I may not agree with everything said here but you do get a balanced mix of posters.

I have a feeling we will have a midfield/attack of: Walcott/Ox, Arteta, Wilshere/Ramsey, Cazorla, Giroud, Podolski.

  225. rico says:

    Jack the new number 10 – fab…

I’m good thanks Will and thank you… We all disagree many times, but it’s not that we disagree, it’s how we disagree which matters…

  226. agirlagunner says:

Have a lovely meal, Kev. 🙂 🙂 Hi, Will. It is a great blog!!

    rico, three million hits!! Yay!!

Seeing Robin’s super smiley photos, I almost feel bad for the guy! Not! 😀

  227. agirlagunner says:

Just M’Vila for me, Will. I haven’t seen much of Capoue; and those are the two names heavily linked to us.

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging so long. 😀 😀 You have done a fantastic job, rico; and you are pretty firm as a mod. 🙂 Girl power!!

  228. rico says:

I don’t care really Will, Capoue, M’Vila or the Celtic guy – just as long as they do what they are meant too…

    I’d love Sakho in too….

  229. rico says:

i haven’t seen Frimps tweet agag what did he say??

And big thanks re HH, but….. credit has to go where it’s really due and that is to all who come here day after day and respect each other, they/you are the ones which make HH…

Just don’t forget to click on the adverts every day everyone 🙂

Arsenal in pole position to sign Biglia it is now just Arsenal vs Arsenal to sign the player.

  232. agirlagunner says:

He said “God Forgives…… I DON’T Retaliation is a must..”

He’s been tweeting a fair bit over the last week cryptic(ish) stuff; which I suspect had to do with Robin. 😀

  233. agirlagunner says:

Frimpong knows how to wind people up; got under the skin of Nasri, didn’t he?? And I should imagine, like the rest of us, he feels betrayed.

I like M’vila but his off-the pitch antics may be his undoing.

  234. Coadsi says:

Good day everyone! Hi Rico it has been a while. one observation, it might be a moot point. i think the persons who started in Germany will certainly be around (with the exception of the GK) . so i expect theo to sign on and would not be surprised to see song go as well. ah-sen and arsenal never learn. the return to the fans to develop young players is not good. by the time they are good enough they are sold. i dont think the powers that be at AFC cares about that / the fans so this wont stop.

  235. agirlagunner says:

I don’t know Senna, but Pirlo, I agree, is capable of magic.

KT, I always just assume you know everything about the players linked to us. 😀 You and JM!!

  236. stevepalmer1 says:

Evening All, I have to say i normally like all your posts AK but this one i’m not so sure of. I personally believe that what RVP has done is for the benefit of Arsenal FC. Robin is into his last year of his contract and at the end of that year he would be 30 years old, now we know the thoughts of Wenger and the board about long term signings for a player of his age Robins refusal to sign a contract could mean that it would only be short term and as with any player Robins age he must be looking for a longer contract, also Robin will never be worth more than he is today so it is only good business for Robin, it is also very profitable for us as well. I don’t see Robins Departure as leaving us in the lurch i see it as good business for Both. Robin Van Persie has deserved a good move he was happy in England and has decided that staying here is what is best for him and his family, hopefully he signs a long contrat and recieves a good wage rise, he has been a good servant to Arsenal and scored many goals that have enthrawled us, i wish him well and hope he has stinkers against us.

  237. rico says:

    Evening everyone..

Good to see you SP 🙂

I think we all have different views about RvP and if it turns out that he truly did try and back track and stay after the signings AW made, then I see his departure as being very different to a betrayal…

  238. stevepalmer1 says:

    Evening Rico,
Wenger has been known to make some strange decisions but i don’t believe he has ever let us down, I also believe he cares for the welfare of his players and helps them get the best deals he can for them, by also sticking to Arsenals rules. I must say it hurts me to think he will be playing against us but at the end of the day its just business.

  239. Andrew says:

Biglia is quality but i would be weary if he were a replacement for song! a supplement to midfielder i hope !:D Mirallas anyone|?

  240. rico says:

What was the point in giving him a squad number??

That suggests to me that we are signing a defender…..

  241. rico says:

    can’t disagree there SP…

And that has to be a good thing Kt, Bartley isn’t ready for the first team yet….

    😆 Scott, you have a good day…

  242. Andrew says:

yeah but he did say arsenal were interested rico so ya never know? but i would expect everton to get him :l Bartley is going on loan right? Sounds like a good deal for all parties involved. he impressed me at stages during pre-season

Arsenal entrust Pat Holland with role as Under-18′s coach

    Jamie SandersonAugust 16, 2012News5 Comments

Arsenal have completed their summer reshuffle of the coaching staff this week, with the appointment of Pat Holland as the club’s new Under-18′s coach.

After Steve Bould and Neil Banfield were promoted to first-team coaching duty at the end of the season, Arsenal have been looking for experience to fill the voids of reserves and Under-18′s head coaches.

Former Gunner Terry Burton has arrived to work with the reserves, and after a protracted search, I’m told 61-year-old West Ham legend Holland will take charge of the academy team. He has already met the players.

London-born Holland brings with him a wealth of experience. He played 245 times for West Ham between 1969 and 1981, and apart from a brief loan period at Bournemouth, he was a one club man.

In terms of coaching, Holland has experience at both youth and first-team level. He has worked as a youth team coach at Tottenham, but also enjoyed a spell as manager of Leyton Orient.

In recent years, Holland has been working as a chief scout. He spent many years working for Championship side Millwall, before helping MK Dons’ rise as a trusted member of Roberto Di Matteo’s recruitment team.

I’m told Holland is already proving to be a popular figure around the club, and is expected to take charge of Saturday’s academy league opener against Bolton.

  252. W.A.T.H says:

KT, from what I’m hearing Song has been causing shit in training… has a bad attitude and seems a bit of a bad influence also seems to think he’s to good for the club….!

Ah the old address… Nice one Grandad 😉

  253. allezkev says:

    Jamie Sanderson‏@YoungGunsBlog

Kyle Bartley says he’s on the way to Swansea from Arsenal. Talented centre back. Work to do. No way through. £1m a good price.

  254. W.A.T.H says:

Also seems Wenger happy to keep BUT also happy to sell if someone comes up with the right money and also the agent been causing shit as well so as you say seems we’re drawing a line and getting rid of any bad apples that rock the boat… If you want out bye bye…!

    About time too…!

  255. allezkev says:

Agree, Wath, but £1 million is a good price and at his age he needs to play.
Think he’ll really come on at Swansea, we may regret selling him in 4 or 5 years time?

  256. ktr7 says:

WATH its too bad he forgets how bad he was when he first came.If we are letting him go there must be a deal elsewhere already done. This means Diaby will definitely start on Saturday.

  257. W.A.T.H says:

A squad that fights for each other and has a different mentality…! one or two more in and as said we’ll be right up there.

  258. W.A.T.H says:

As someone said on twitter earlier….
Some of these departed/ing players have been integral in Arsenal not winning things, but its always someone elses fault. New Team, New Attitudes

  259. W.A.T.H says:

I would like to think we know who we want KT…. or is Wenger going to put his faith in Coq to fill the Song role..? Hope not, as much as I rate Coq we need to bring in a quality DM it’s what we’ve lacked for years now. The whole unit would be far more solid.

  260. ktr7 says:

If what BBC are saying is true about Wenger telling Rvp to f**k off after Cologne got new found respect for the man.We are going to have a totally different team with a different mentality.

  261. allezkev says:

KT, it’s so frustrating, Sahin wants Arsenal, Arsenal want Sahin, but that cnut Mourinho wants Liverpool.

  262. W.A.T.H says:

KT, just thinking out loud here but I wonder if Bould has given Wenger a wake up call… It seems vP made outrageous demands in May and obviously pissed people off and then the statement probably killed and further dialogue and when he saw the players in were good he may of thought hmm ok I’ll stay and then the Club think/say not a chance you wanted out you didn’t wanna sign so off you go…!

    Fair play I say…!

  263. W.A.T.H says:

AK don’t care who he picks long as it’s NOT song and diaby together they are diabolical as a pair…! Coq for me all day long. Sahin would be a great loan deal KT and then as we say a proper DM…!

  264. ktr7 says:

I feel sorry for Kagawa since he’ll most likely be a sub for the mancs.I still believe was an impulse buy.

  265. ktr7 says:

I’d love to know what exactly happened in that meeting between Rvp,Wenger and Gazidis since everything stems from that meeting.

  266. W.A.T.H says:

For me the mancs buying vP is a case of keeping up with the neighbours…! Not saying it’s gonna fail BUT a 60million quid package is a lot to spend on a 29yr old with a fragile medical history thats for sure..! everyone else turned em down they needed a “buy’ that made a statement but is it the right statement… do they not need midfield quality far more than a striker…!? I honestly feel its a great deal for us, just a shame vP has no integrity…!

  267. ktr7 says:

    WOW!!!

Robin van Persie wanted to join Manchester United in January and told them he would join in the Summer. #AFC

  268. ktr7 says:

Robin van Persie doesn’t even need to move house. He can just get a lift up from London to Manchester with all the other United fans.

  269. allezkev says:

If that is true KT, then that really kills the last tiny piece of credibility he has left with Gunners fans imho…

  270. ktr7 says:

Graham Hunter: “RvP told Cesc last summer “Happy to be captain but 1 more year of no trophies and I’m off”. Flirting w/ UTD since Jan(!)

  271. Scott from Oz says:

KT,after watching Japan V Austalia a month or two back,I was amazed UTD went after Kagawa and not Honda.
Honda is a brilliant player, and by far the classiest guy on the field that night.

  272. W.A.T.H says:

Makes a mockery of his “ambition” comment AK…. we all know it’s about money what ever colour he tries to paint it it’s not gonna work with most people…! He’s gone he’s history fuck him….! Now he’s just another greedy fucker playing for the enemy.

  273. allezkev says:

    Frimponged‏@Frimponged

Graham Hunter claims RvP has wanted to join Manchester United since January and called them saying he’d join in summer

  274. Scott from Oz says:

They’ll go close if he holds up.
    If not,they’re gone already.

How kids think CG… if only players had the loyalty of a teddy bear…!

AK, no problem for me if Kozzer needs another week to get fit least TV and BFG are fine together…! A goal from a corner anyone…????

  282. CowboyGunner says:

I’m still waiting for BFG to get his own goal from a set-piece! Or did I miss it already? I think he’ll do fine against Sunderland…it’s against the clever teams that he struggles…one two and the tree falls down…

  283. W.A.T.H says:

Yes mate I’ll settle for that 😉 BFG at the near post will be a nightmare to deal with…! I’m off fella’s chat 2moro enjoy your evening or day where ever you may be…!

  284. Scott from Oz says:

I mentioned RVP to Sean yesterday, and he said straight back “who’s he dad” with a cheeky little smile.
    Then……”can I get a Podolski shirt?”.
He is well trained, well educated and loves the Arsenal.
I’m not sure which of us is more excited about the weekend!!
When is our kick off time guys?

  285. CowboyGunner says:

I just got rid of cable, so I will be scanning Sopcast and the streams to find the game…can i get a Podolski shirt! Priceless…seeing as my fiancee is a Ramsey, I think that’s the only shirt with a name I’ll ever get. The only two jerseys I own (which I just bought two months ago) are RVP and yes…Song.

  286. CowboyGunner says:

Correction…only two footy jerseys with NAMES that I own. I even have an RvP Holland jersey…eBay?

  295. CowboyGunner says:

Sorry…that was directed to you, Goonster…the I can only imagine part. AK, thanks for the lead on the site…I’ll check it out. I usually watch games in a foreign language as I only had foxsoccer for a year. I couldn’t justify spending over$100/mo. to watch the Gunners…well, I could…but my better half couldn’t! Actually, that money is going to her ring. So…it is what it is!

  296. CowboyGunner says:

If you lived where I do, Goonster, you’d be the “Frying Dutchman.” It’s only 103 today, so I mowed the lawn and am going to wash the cartruck.

  298. CowboyGunner says:

There you are then…the Frying Dutchman! It’s monsoon season here in the low desert, so the clouds bring the NC/Texas Gulf Coast humidity…day before yesterday it was 118. But it’s a dry heat they say! Are there Gooners in NC? Here there are only ManUre and Barca fans…mostly kids (I teach and coach HS)…I ask them, what part of Scotland is Manchester in? They say they aren’t sure. Knobs! The old farts in town (all go for Mexican Primera teams) really RESPECT the Arsenal, though.

I love Africans…when I went to school in London and worked in Japan, they were always the most fun to play with…Pass the ball, Cowboy! Here it is, America! Then we’d pal around afterwards…the Italians/Arabs wouldn’t pass and the Scottish guys just went straight through with the ball running over anything in their path…ah how I miss those Regent Park days! Best guy I ever played with was a Ghanian in Japan. I was his bitch…I’d win the ball and just give it to him…Denilson to Fabregas?

  305. CowboyGunner says:

Nubian queens! I’ll tell you what though…the Chinese/Mexican girls across the border here are pretty freakin’ sweet, though! Salsa, banda, then happy ending! But game over for me now, though…I’m a loyal dog…to everyone and everything…of course I haven’t been offered 250k/week!

  306. CowboyGunner says:

Bondex…I bit…I was waiting for “RvP” after the “who’s there?” Then I was to reply, “RvP who?”

  307. goonster says:

bondie, your wife??!!!!! christ, what does she look like? if she’s anything like lara james then i paying you a visit anytime soon.

  308. bondex says:

i had a poem for Rotten Vile Poison earlier in the day…can’t stop humming it to my self…..Rotten Vile Poison ,bought on wednesday..injured on monday..this is the end of Rotten Vile Poison.

  309. goonster says:

  310. ktr7 says:

  311. CowboyGunner says:

Robin Van Nasri….Robin van Nasri…sod the f*** off, you lyin’ pu**y…Robin Van Nasri…Robin van Nasri…in on Monday injured by Thursday!

Sorry Bondex…I stole you thunder…and whoever first penned Robin Van Nasri…we’re all on the same team though, right?

  312. bondex says:

goonie, you sound just like him all of a sudden…one minute professing all your love for the angel from manilla, now its for an unknown in Kenya…

  313. CowboyGunner says:

Goonie…I’m a hybrid man, myself…Philipino/Anglo…what a combo! African women are graceful beauty IMO…actually, I think I like all hot women. I don’t discriminate…beauty is beauty!

  314. goonster says:

cowboy what was that about “salsa” and across the border thingy???? men, i think i ve got to swim the rio grande man.

  315. goonster says:

christ, cowboy you re a man after my heart pal. finally a man of taste in HH. God bless ya pal. God bless ya.

  316. EastSidePaul says:

My only hope is that RVP never mentions Arsenal again, don’t thank supporters, staff or management, none of it. Sod off and never mention the club that paid you to spend 7 years on a treatment table. I’m sure like more other fans the man is dead to me, not an Arsenal legend, never even came close.

  317. CowboyGunner says:

Where I’m at in Cally, there is no river…only a fence…and of course Mexican cartel members! Actually, the border across from Texas is far worse than here…in El Paso, bullets actually fly across into the US. In Mexicali, they thrive on us coming over and clubbin’ and partying till 6 a.m. The tacos are great, and the food isn’t that bad either…I used to say, Hola…Soy Jason…Tengo un trabajo, dos coches, y segurancia…quieres bailar, bonita bonita?

  318. CowboyGunner says:

ESP…you are right…he really should keep his mouth shut. I’m afraid our players will go after him when we play, possibly overpursuing him a bit…you are spot on…He needs to keep a lopro right now and everytime he comes to the Emirates. Doubling his wages? I can’t blame him…but his derogatory remarks and two-faced nature are hard to let slide.

  319. goonster says:

i better head off to texas…..i ve got to find me a hot latina. its been a dream of mine to nail one of them. God i cant wait. texas here i come.

  320. CowboyGunner says:

No! I’m from Texas! I live in Cally now…in Texas, the Mexican food is better, but in Cally, the Mexican women are hotter! My teaching buddy used to provide an escort service for outta towners taking them to clubs and the you know what’s. He always used to ask me if I wanted to go to a brothel…I’d say, why pay for what I can get for free? Then he’d say, well, it doesn’t hurt to look at the menu and then have the slimiest laugh ever! Chemistry teachers!

Head to Cally, to Cally, To Cally.

  321. CowboyGunner says:

Oh yeah…Goonie…if you’re Dutch, they’ll find YOU. Just have a nice car and dress nice…and it’s yours. Guaranteed…those were the good ol’ days! I’m 37 now,so I had a good 12 years of carousing before I found the one to hold my horses…but it was definitely fun…

  322. CowboyGunner says:

Enough of the philandering, Goonie…this is about footy…not booty! I think Giroud will be the leader in assists…hold up the ball in the box and lay it off to Poldi who will actually shoot! Teach Gervy to shoot as well and we got ourselves some definite threats up top.

  323. CowboyGunner says:

Goto Cally. San Diego for Mexican Americans…Imperial Valley in the winter and over to Mexicali for pura Mexicans con todos…if you ever make it out here, let me know…I should have my passport by then…I was born in the Phillipines, you know…USAF Brat.

  324. goonster says:

jeeez, but i have a thing for puerto ricans cowboy. i just wanna smack one of them chicks on the bum. lord help me.

  325. goonster says:

christ, you re from AGAG’s country!!! gosh i knew it. you guys party really hard. am heading to manila one of these days. gotta get me a hot filipino lady.

  326. CowboyGunner says:

hahahahahahaa Goonie! You’re friggin’ hilarious! Ok…gotta do my chores! Yep…two months of vacation and I’m looking for things to do around the house…gonna straighten out the guest room…there’s always a bed here for you! Peace for now!

    Gunner ’till I die!

  327. CowboyGunner says:

I was just born there! I’m Hispanic/Mexican-American/whatever. My dad was a US Immigration supervisor after he retired from the Air Force and never bothered to declare me a US citizen! So after my third passport, the one I used for studying abroad/working in Japan, the State Dept. said they wouldn’t issue me a new one unless I became an official citizen. How ironic is that? Anyway…you are what we call here a “horndog.” I think I’d be a good wingman for you here…I’d set you up and all I’d ask for in return is details! hahahaha! I think we destroyed this thread! Anyway, Goooons unite! Just no more Gooners to United…

You are truly a character worth you’re weight in $1 bills! (You can use those in Mexico!)

Peace and harmony, my Dutch brother! Oh yeah…I toured Western Europe…was supposed to rent a sports car and cruise the AutoBahn…but I never made it out of AmsterD. European daze and European nights! Laters!

  328. Scott from Oz says:

Sounds like we Aussies lead a dull life lol.
Who’d have thought we were ever the quietest lot in the room??

  329. CowboyGunner says:

ScOz…in Vegas, the Aussies are the ones who party the hardest…I remember one guy I hung out with who didn’t sleep for three days! You Aussies aren’t dull! At least in Vegas! If the Goons ever make it to another CL final, I’ll use my resort points and get a suite or two on the Strip. That could be one hell of a Gooner party!

  330. rico says:

Oh no, that was a bit of a muck up by me then 😉

I’m not mentioning him today, going to hard but…..

  331. allezkev says:
