El Shaarawy, Pato & Reid – We are interested in all three of them – apparently! Podolski is back!

Morning all.

I have a stinking cold and feel a bit out of sorts so a quick round up of the gossip is about all you are getting this morning.

First up is West Ham’s Winston Reid who is 25 years old, 6′ 3″ tall and a centre back. £6 million is the price quoted in The Daily Mail, a bargain in today’s market but would he be good enough for us? Ok he’d probably have to play 2nd or 3rd fiddle to those we already have at the club for a while at least but if he’s good, he’d soon find his way into the first eleven. In May this year he was voted West Ham’s player of season and he’s represented his country New Zealand seventeen times.

Next is Alexandre Pato – the same paper believes that, having turned down a move to Tootenham in the summer, the player could be on the radar of Arsene Wenger to boost our strike force. I’m sure you all know who he is but just in case, he’s a 24 year old, 5′ 10″ Brazilian international striker who currently plays for Corinthians.

Strange rumour that one though as he only moved to his current club earlier this year as Stephan El Shaarawy and Mario Balotelli were preferred starters for Milan.

Talking of Milan and El Sharraway, I read somewhere  a day or so ago that we are interested in him too, in fact the ever reliable (cough) Caught Offside reported that ‘secret talks’ had taken place between us and his club! Now that is one I’d love to be right!

Finally, some real and good news. Lukas Podolski is back fit and training.

Big Boost!
Big Boost!

He said at training on Tuesday:

Back on the pitch. Great feeling.

Hopefully he’s ready to add a bit more depth to our bench tomorrow…

Others who are reportedly back in the next 10-14 days if not sooner are Theo Walcott, Mathieu Flamini and Yaya Sanogo….

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Flamini in the squad tomorrow……

That’s it for another day……

  1. Wavy says:

Didn’t Wenger say Flamini was out for 2 to 3 weeks? That’s Arsenal code for ‘nearer 6!’
As for the rest I think it’s a load of make believe! Fictional journalism at its most creative!

Rico: loads of paracetamol, a few hot toddies and bed rest, would be my prescription for ‘lady flu’.

  2. Tomas says:

Add £10M to that figure and you are closer to the real valuation of Reid. A whole class over what you have at the moment. Wont be for sale at all thogh.

  3. rico says:

No hot toddies but plenty of paracetamol that’s for sure Wavy 😉

I didn’t see that from AW re Flamini, guess he won’t be around tomorrow then.,….

  4. Scott from Ozil says:

    Morning guys.
Rico, i read Reid was valued at 11 million, so somewhere in between i reckon 🙂
Pato…yes please but can not see it.
That other bloke…he is a chance.
Who will play DM v dippers guys?

  5. HenryB says:

Sorry that you are not well, Rico, having been under the weather myself recently, I know it can be a bugger.

I think we are all a bit sceptical about transfer rumours at the best of times, especially this far out from the transfer window.

That being the case I am always a bit resigned when I hear figures like £6m bandied about as it smacks of the old cheapskate values.

You get what you pay for in life and football.

  6. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

    Good read as always…

You know transfer rumours ain’t worth its salt if Malaga gooner is not quoting it. 😛

A crazy week for me but hey bring on the weekend…

ps. Man flu has been medically proven btw. lol

Chilli soup always does the trick if flu for me Wavy…

  7. Scott from Ozil says:

    It must be catching, Rico.
    Wife is crook.
    Son is getting that way.
I hope she gets better, because if i get sick she needs to be ready to nurse me 🙂

  8. rico says:

Thanks Hb, hope you feel better soon, bloody bugs around this time of the year! Caught it from the usual place, the Drs!!

  9. tsgh says:

Its good to see your PM Prime Minister Tony Abbott bringing your nations involvement to the Afghan war to an end…

  10. Vanderelst says:

As a Hammer living in Highbury I take a close interest in all things Arsenal. Reid is the best player at Upton Park by a mile and I’ve always had him down as a successor to Vidic at Old Trafford. Whether you’d get him for £6 million is a moot point but he’d definitely be a top buy – just hope we don’t sell him

  11. rico says:

Arsène Wenger revealed the following team news ahead of the Premier League game against Liverpool:

    on the team news…

Basically we have just Arteta back because he was suspended. Gnabry, who was not available for Tuesday, will not be available again, and all the other long-term injuries are not back – Walcott, Chamberlain, Podolski, Diaby.

    on Flamini…

He is a short-term injury, he could be available for Manchester United. He is out for Liverpool and Dortmund.

  12. tsgh says:

Interersting that BVB 09 are playing tonight instead of tomorrow or even tomorrow night. That will be a good 24 hours extra break even though they are playing at home in the CL against us…

The Bundesliaga officials always help out their CL teams whilst the EPL are more interested in TV viewers. …

  13. tsgh says:

    A bit of transfer rumour… Rafael Hernández ‏@RafaelH117 48m

So yes, it’s true: Arsenal is interested in Diego Costa. He’s valued around €25m, Atlético Madrid rumored to rate him at least €35m.

  14. BrainwashedKev says:

Winston Reid is a new one on me…
At 25 he’s been around for awhile, but I gotta admit that he’s passed me by…

Is he better than what we have?

Tbh, if the £6million is true, then is he that good?

  15. rico says:

Seriously though Sp, the more better players we sign, the deeper the squad and the stronger the cup sides will be.

Isn’t that what we all want?

  16. rico says:

Hi Kev, that’s just what I thought. The Hammers who have been on here today reckon he’s very good and worth at least double that amount…

  17. tsgh says:

miguel played for well for Leicester mid week allegedly… still 3rd or 4th choice material for now.

Kev- did you see photos of your boy Afobe playing midweek? Pleased to see him get a few minutes under his belt…

  18. stevepalmer1 says:

In my eyes Rico, every competetive match is as important as the next, and 8 changes in any team is not neccesary. when a man earns 50 odd grand a week he should be able to do at least 3 90 minutes a week.Iif he cant manage it, get a job in a factory.

  19. BrainwashedKev says:

No Ginge, I didn’t see that about Afobe…

Crowley is fit now, so both he and Zelamen should give the Youths a massive lift for the UEFA Youth Cup…

Afobe needs to go out on loan in January, as does Yennaris and few more of the U21’s…
Miquel is looking good. If he continues to progress then West Ham can keep Winston Reid.

  20. rico says:

Sorry Sp, I went off for a while as it was quiet..

Surely AW has to prioritise? Had he played the first eleven, not only does it not automatically mean we would win, but what if one or two key players got injured?

AW seems damned whatever he does when it comes to the league cup…

  21. potter says:

£ 6 million or 10 or even 15 . Since we paid that amount for Ozil all sellers will think of a number and double it.

  22. rico says:

Hi agag, nervous ahead of tomorrow…

Potter, when it comes to selling to Arsenal, clubs have tried doing that for a while, they know we are rich…

  23. Adam says:

    Evening Agag and all.
Diego Costa would do me but he is a niggly bastard who really pisses opponents off. He is very strong though and his finishing is getting better and better. At £30 million plus he would bring a lot to our offensive set-up.

  24. Adam says:

AM have another player that I really like called Koke. Another big bugger and a midfield player with real skill. Simeone is getting some performances out of his team even if he does dress like a South American gangster.

  25. rico says:

I just googled Koke to see what was written about him, think I got the wrong one as he’s listed as playing for Blooming

  26. Nashuagunner says:

After our last play with Chelsea my hopes are fading now that it’s going to be another season without trophy. I’m praying and hoping that I’m wrong. Diame or Malubu(spelling) for me in M-field.

    The mighty gunners; as always.
