He’ll spend if need be he says!
Does he think we don’t need players and that he now has his best ever squad yet again?
Are we in for yet more of the same comments from the last few years?
‘We’re a young team getting better’ …….
Maybe we will see an improvement from some players but how can we be better, more competitive and not fall apart like years gone by when he won’t buy the defenders that in May he said we needed and many of us know we need ? He said we need more physical players as we’re quite a small team so what about addressing those problems and weaknesses.
Lies… spin or has he simply lost his edge or does he truly believe these things he says…?
I believe we are perfectly good enough, what we did last year, considering the age of the squad and the problems we had with injuries, was a credit to the team and we have a good opportunity now to show that we have the quality.
If you are a winner, you say: ‘We were very close last year, let’s do it this year.’ You come back.
I believe that the real destiny of this team is now there. They know as well as I know that we were very, very close last season. We intend to show everybody that we can do it. We are a young team and we can only be better. It demands the strength of character that the champions have. That’s what we want to show.
See my problem with that is if we had an entire squad who were winners, they would have won something last season, even the season before as the squad have been together for a few years now. In fact I’m sure we would have won two things last season, the Carling Cup and the Premier League….
Like I said yesterday:
I think we have the base of a bloody good team, get rid of the hangers-on, buy 2/3 with winning mentality and we’d never crumble like we did in the last stage of last season again…
We need a real leader, an organiser at the back and someone to drum home what it means to play for Arsenal…..
Come on Arsene, you have a fantastic picnic, you just lack a couple of sandwiches to make it perfect……
Go on, go and shut people like me up and get the two or three players that we all know will give us a real chance of winning something again….
Winning isn’t the be all and end all but showing up for the whole season is and players who show passion and committment is what the fans want to see and we’re still lacking that in certain areas. The price of this kind of player will not measure their passion, in fact I’m sure a player from the Championship or below would have more passion and committment for the game than half of the over paid pre-madonnas in the Premier League.
No one wants our club to spend money we haven’t got just what we do have, spend wisely and not on an old has been like Squilli or a kid who may be good in five years time.
You have the opportunity to put it right, Don’t let us down…………
The Sun break their football news today with a story suggesting we have tabled a bid for Romelu Lukaku, according to the paper, his agent met with officials from Arsenal yesterday. Not sure who he would have met up with as both Wenger and Gazidis are in China. Who knows if there is any truth in this, I guess we’ll all find out soon enough, is he any good in central defence? 😉
As for Denilson lets just hope the rumours are true that he off back to Brazil on loan, anywhere but near our squad is fine with me. A rumour about one desperate to join us, Alan Pardew has said that his left back, Jose Enrique wants to join us and play Champions League Football. I kind of get the impression that Pardew wouldn’t stop him either if we offer the right price.
And finally, Mancini has been talking again – he says he hopes to have signed Samir Nasri by the end of this month…..
The boys are back in action later today, ESPN are covering the game and you can also watch on the Arsenal Player, which I think is free viewing.
Have a good day all…….
Anyone else fed up with other managers and players talking about our players? I think it is time Gazidis earned his corn, came out and told these people to stop being disrepectful and talking in public about players other than their own.
I have said all along we need an organsier at the back, someone in the Adams mould who can shape the defence and get people in the right positions for free kicks and corners.
Also, a bit of fire in their bellies, we have no real warriiors at the moment.
…
Morning all
I sure am Will and credit to Arsene Wenger, he may mention he likes a player but he never bleats on about buying them, not unless he’s in talks with a players club….
good morning
miss 15 days for the end of the transfer season.
I’m still waiting…
quote
” No one wants our club to spend money we haven’t got just what we do have, spend wisely and not on an old has been like Squilli or a kid who may be good in five years time.
who’s “we”. It is private money and if the club is in debt it has nothing to do with us.
I’m somewhat confused as to how Wenger purchases Gervinho to add to our “offensive efficiency” but doesn’t feel the need to add to the defence for the same reason.
Hi JM, hope you had a good break…
alan, the fans, i don’t think anyone wants us to see the club spiral into massive debt, just actually spend money that we do have or will have when Nik etc move on….
If Nasri and Cesc go, then that money should be sepnt too… NOT just put into the club to pay off more debt…
daspecimen, i’m sure he will before the windown closes and the season starts….
Morning all,
Good motivational post Rico.
Reading my local paper The Palmer Gazett, i read that Vidic will be an Arsenal Player by the start of the season, it also stated that Ya Ya Toure wants to move to London and play attractive football and he’s bored where he is and is,and is going to bang on the Emirates stadium doors, as that is where he wants to be. This gazett also lets out breaking news that Messi is fed up having to carry Barcelona, he says he wants a chalenge away from all of the squables that is rumoured to be breaking the team up, messi is desperate to play with Fabregas and realises that the only way thats going to happen is if is a move to The Emirates, story has it he will play for Arsenal for free just so he can play alongside his old friend Cesc. Wenger has stated that Messi may spend time on the bench and he will have to take his chance when it arrives but he expects him to be in our shirt by next week. The future looks verry Bright for the North London team, and Wenger has said he will fit them all in if its the last thing he does.
Morning Steve
😆 re the local paper, we don’t want Vidic, too many red cards 😉
I’ll inform the Editor rico.
All Jokes asside we ought to judge Wenger when the first ball is kicked, I personally dont think we need to many changes but i can see a need for one or two in defence, i would be very suprised if he doesn’t include at least one, as time is still on our side, we can still include new talent but i don’t think who ever he buys that we would have heard too much about them, we need to have faith in the Managers choice as that is what he does and stand back and watch it all unfold.
😆
Horrid weather today isn’t it, you watching the golf??
I’m tuned in Rico, no golf for me in this weather so will also tune into the best blog that i know for all the latest info.
I’m trying to trust him Steve but its the mixed messages he sends out, that why i keep getting a bit wound up – he should say nothing, promise us nothing, then we can expect nothing….
Where you off then 😉
When he is constantly being asked by people of his intentions, it must be dificult to answer truthfully, as he and we know that it could be detrimental to any inquireries he may have made, thats why i think its best to wait till the end of the window. The man is frustrating i know, but he’s acheivments year after year is quite incredible, and i expect the best of him most of the time. If he has been given the money, i expect him to buy, as he knows that is what supporters feel we need and of course he knows it as well.
But if he told the truth, he wouldn’t get confused, he doesn’t need to tell the reporters/fans who he is going to buy just reassure us he will be – not start adding bits like, ‘if i feel we need it’ etc…..
I’m not sure he ever asks for money….
At the end of last season, he was as frustrated as hell, he felt that we had a good chance to turn our fortunes round, i also felt like that. But with one thing after another, injuries that he couldn’t fore see and certain players losing concentration, all a bit much to take in. I feel that with just a little more luck we could quite rightly have won things as Wenger was adament that we would do well. I have always noticed that you have always expected us to be top of the table but its so easy to lose a match, and in certain situations one turns into two and so on. I still believe that even in Januay we could still win
I don’t expect us to be top of the table Steve, I expect the side to play like they want to be top of the table, to fight in every game, not stroll around like it was a sunday afternoon walk….
I can accept defeat as long as the team put a shift in and look like they are up for it…
Where I think the problem lies is a few of our players think they should be at the top of the league without putting the hard work in…
Look back at the CC Final, we turned up looking like a bag of poo and we played like it too whereas B’ham fought from start to finish, played as a team and as a team who really wanted to win at all cost….
My only question for the neysayers is, were you screaming for Wenger’s head when we were in for all 4 trophies?
No-one is screaming for Wengers head Will!
Agree with The CC, but that should have been won in the first half not left to the end of the game, its called a learning curve young players that have never won anything need them, a bit of a jult but why did we deserve it more than Birmingham they too are a proffesional outfit, maybe their players were a bit older and handled the day better, at the end of the day we to could have won in the last few minutes only we didn’t not a sweet tablet to swallow but a jult to the system for us and the players. We have not got a given right to anything so learning curves are how you gain the experience to win in future years.
Some have Rico and not just here, i talk in general but yours is the only blog I comment on as for me, it is the best and fairest.
Neither deserved the CC more than the other – but i guess my point is had we actually looked like we wanted to play to win, we would have stood more of a chance…
Like you said, we should have wrapped it up in the first half…
yes, rico I did.
Vidic for what, steve?
I’m watching the Tour 🙂
Not this morning Will which is why your comment surprised me….
Hi JM, hope the weather is better where you are than it is here, throwing it down, Vidic i was being sarcastic for Rico’s benefit, but she put me right straight away.
Rico, I am not the quickest brain 😉
I have read a few other sites and the anti-Wenger bile is shocking.
I agree with the post though and I think I may have said, we need a brutal bastard in the centre of the park, an organiser at the back and a clinical strikerup front.
Job done.
Also, if anyone see’s Mancini on their travels, punch him hard in the face and tell him it’s from me.
We all want the same result at the end of the day, frustration is a terrible thing makes people do some and say some strange things, we all have our own points of view i know myself i am always right, but chatting to you guys is a way of bringing myself back to earth with a bang, i want so much to be the best team out there and i honestly think were not to far off, but even if it didn’t happen i will still follow them the next year with a hope in my heart, we shouldnt argue over things we have no control over we may differ with our views but should not badger one another we are all supporters and want whats best for our team and while we support together we will eventually get what we want i hope.
Glad to hear that JM, like steve says, weather is shocking here in the uk…
1-0 down – ‘afc don’t defend the first ball well’ says commentator…..
Squilli and Manonne …..
You want me to answer that Will …. 😉
good post rico…….
it would surely be the last season for wenger…
liverpool signed downing i think.do you think he will have a impact on their team…could they be real challengers for us and the title….
Any links to teh game?
ya any links to the game……
AF, have you seen Downing’s stats?
actually im not intrested in him….. and anyway stats can be misleading……
Not really. Assists and Goals says a lot about forward players.
Watching now and jeez, we are crap.
Anyone who says we don’t need to buy is crazy.
This defence worrys me BIG time.
we are doomed ……..
right there will……but downing will atleast put in crosses……
Downings not worth a rub 😆
http://atdhenet.tv/38036/watch-hangzhou-vs-arsenal
Dear oh dear.
Cross to who though AF?
Good goal. Good time to get one.
I’ll be honest, it’s quite nice watching an arsenal game without having to check my blood pressure at regular intervals. Only another month before I write this seasons will!!
Sorry hi all!! Long time, no see.
It’s gonna be another long season by the looks of things.
Hi Mr Is, shocking defending indeed…
Howdy Rocastle, long time and all that, hows you?/
i hope wenger has now seen enough of squilli
good bit of defending from pingpong to save the defence earlier ….
Yeah, Squill is plainly not good enough.
waste of money and waste of wages…….
I would rather Bartley be given a go.
Not bad rico, me old china. Just got back from Bulgaria. Highly recommended!!
How you been diddling?
Whats happend to dj aswell also,he seems to be lacking confidence at the mo.
I’d rather we bought Cahill ….
Lucky you Rocastle, sun sea and no football 😉 I’m very well thanks, enjoying the beautiful english summer weather today….
Walcott in the middle then….. At last….
Maybe not 😉
Yeah, it was nice, however there was also football, we organised a ENG v GER on the beach, needless to say I dished out a few heavy ones!! “I got the ball mate!!!”
Anyone going to the emirates cup?
That was a bit fierce from Kos…. 🙁
Been there once, food wasn’t good for veggies 😉
Beautiful climate though but too many Chav fans 😉
Much better second half….
The food wasn’t good full stop!!
A diet of chicken kebabs and lager is not good.
I know it is pre-season but this is a bit dire.
1-1… walcott!!!!!
I’m better then him !!!! sure !!!!
The wine and lager was all watered down when i went, but was just when Bulgaria was becoming popular…. But, i think they will catch up and make it better – i like your diet though 😉
JM, Vela 😉
Bulgaria is nice.
Was Walcott who miss a big chanche
I liked it. My guts didn’t!!
Were you stupid enough to try their coleslaw? Made with fish oil….mmmm.
BREAKING NEWS: Chamack just took a shot, from the edge of the area.
We are shooting though, that’s a bonus…..
Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass Pass pass pass pass
Sorry JM, should have realised what you meant there, should have made it 2-1…
Rocastle, lived off salad and bread – everything was swamped in mayo, yuck! Oh, and cheeeeeeeeeeeses 🙂
Will, sounds like a list of Wayne Rooney’s answers on the weakest link!!
This game reminds of the last two months of last season….
I hope wenger sees we need something fresh in this squad…..
Rocastle 😆
Woohoo!
We’ve got a fullback that can cross!!
Hi Rico, I hope the club have made a few quid out of this trip because there are very few inspiring moments. I guess the real business starts next week when Arsene gets stuck into the transfer market and addresses the weaknesses. If, of course there are any.
Shocking, pre-season or not that was pathetic.
fullback? was Clichy…
shot? maybe bendtner, no ?
shot out area ? ???
this match reminds the two last month of the last season but the opposition was weak… what is very worst !!!
Where is Denilson ?
The right back is mediocre
Hi Adam,
On that display there are plenty… Do they all leave today do you know?? Sooner he and gazidis are back the better, if of course they are to get busy…..
Denilson is leaving for Brazil, he’s off on loan apparently JM 🙂
Adam, is your email address the one you attach to your comment? Tried to email you earlier but it came back as failed… 🙁
I’m surprised that no-one has commented about our supposed bid for the Lukaku 😉
And what about Joel Campbell?? He’s also on his way…..
Wow, how much less boring was that second half. Swap in Wilshire, Walcott, Ramsey, Miyachi, plus sure up defense with Verm.
I thought Chamack looked ok in the second half too. Got some things going there with Walcott. I still have hope for Chamack. I still remember what a splash he made at the start of the season. He didn’t really disappear until van Persie appeared.
It was nice to Miyachi take that one shot. Watching Arsenal pass the ball around inside the box, I was thinking here we go again, then Miyachi gets it and hauls one off.
Overall I’m happy with the second half.
Of course it’s no great surprise we conceded on a set piece. I hope that confirms to Wenger the need for a big man or two.
Oh. And another thing. Did you guys notice how Wilshire was trying to hurry things up towards the end on that freak kick? I like to see that sense of urgency, even in a pre season friendly. It just confirms to me he’s a spirited kid who wants to win all the time.
Hi Doc, definately better second half but still just lack something, but out there in the heat and humidity they are just going through the motions i guess…
Next friendly will tell us more… or am i just being naive 😉
Need a few more like him Doc…..
Edit: a couple posts up “freak kick” was supposed to be *free* kick. Damn iPad autocomplete messes me up all the time (and apparently my proofreading could use some work)
Cruyff comments on Fabragas:
“Fabregas is tied to the club and its rules for many years.”
“If you are talking about quality football, there is a sense that the club wants him, but when you sign for a club you should always stick to your contract. The two clubs have to negotiate and Arsenal are in charge.”
“What would we say here if Messi said he wanted to go back to Argentina?”
“He [referring to Arsne Wenger] has to look after Arsenal’s interests, not others, of course”…“And he has every right in the world to do so because Cesc has a contract with Arsenal.”
Well said Cruyff…..
Don’t see him telling Barca to stop though.
Hi rico,
I’d like to confirm and here is the news:
“The English press forward, this Saturday, that Arsenal made a proposal valued at about 16 million euros for the striker to pass Romelu Lukaku, Anderlecht.
According to British newspaper The Sun, the ‘manager’ Arsene Wenger believes he will win the race by the player, which is also followed by Chelsea.
The agent will Lukaku talked on Friday with the leaders of the ‘Gunners
He is a good center-forward, young (19th I suppose) with room for improvement
Arsene Wenger stood defiantly over the future of Samir Nasri on Saturday, reiterating his belief that the midfielder will stay at Arsenal whilst accusing Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini of showing a clear lack of respect.
Wenger cut an angry figure as he responded to questions following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Hangzhou Greentown, which saw Nasri start the game despite ongoing doubts over his future.
Mancini confirmed on Saturday morning that he intends to sign the France international, who only has a year to run on his current Arsenal contract. The City boss even said he hopes to have sealed the deal by the end of July.
“I hope that we can buy because we need other players,” said Mancini on Sky Sports News. “And I hope that this player can arrive before the end of the month.”
Wenger stopped short of stating that he would report Manchester City for their conduct regarding the Nasri transfer, which could potentially be perceived as tapping up. The Arsenal boss did, however, agree with the suggestion that Mancini had disrespected him, and he labelled the Italian’s comments “out of order”.
ok
denilson is loan to S.Paulo
Vucinik (Rome) spurs?
Alvaro Pereira (Porto) – chelsea, Liverpoll. Barcelona… why not Arsenal???
I saw that one JM, he’s meant to be a bit special, interesting to see what happens,…
Well then, maybe it’s about time the club stop commenting on other peoples comments and just report them to FIFA or whoever they need to….
That is the only way to stop them, I can’t believe that arsenal haven’t done that by now…..
I agree Rico, Mancini has come out and said he is going to sign Nasri, how does he know? Tapping up maybe? This one needs to be reported.
Joel Nathaniel Campbell Samuels better known as Joel Campbell is a Costa Rican international football player. The Costa Rican striker has agreed a 5 million pound move to Arsenal FC, and was being watched by AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona FC, Napoli, Florentina, and Inter Milan. He is a very good dribbler, speedy player, good finisher, and very creative.
i heard them first thing Will…
He said ‘I hope to sign him by the end of the month’….. The i/v was on sky sports…..
Surely the officials should pick up on it…..
You see someone stole a HH post and re-posted it under their own site??
Great, another expensive prospect.
No, what is teh site?
romelu lukaku is tipped as the next drogba….who is very strong and very quick for his size….which is his advantage over drogba…..though he is very young 18 i think but one of the most talked about future superstars……with the likes of hazar, ganzo, neymar……
Eurosport comment:
Poor Arsenal draw in China
Sat, 16 Jul 14:28:00 2011
Arsenal gave Arsene Wenger plenty to ponder after their Asian tour concluded with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Hangzhou Greentown in Yiwu City.
The Gunners were desperately poor at the back in the first half and fell behind to a goal from Sebastian Vazquez after 16 minutes following a mistake from goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
Carlos Vela continued his impressive pre-season campaign when drawing Arsenal level on the stroke of half-time with a finish from close range, and though the Gunners improved markedly after their manager made 11 changes at the break, they were unable to find a winner in China.
Wenger was adamant earlier this week that his side does not have a weakness in defence, despite evidence to the contrary last season, and his players set about attempting to prove him wrong in an error-strewn first-half performance.
Mannone was forced into making a good save after only two minutes as Arsenal’s defence was opened up by a ball over the top – a familiar scenario for the North London club in recent seasons – while Armand Traore also struggled at left-back.
After quarter of an hour, the Gunners were once again exposed as Uruguayan forward Paulo Pezzolano exploited uncertainty between the unconvincing Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci when curling a shot against the base of the post.
Inside two minutes, Hangzhou were ahead. Mannone made a terrible mess of a free-kick and after he fumbled the ball in the box, Vazquez pounced amid a stationary Arsenal defence to slot home the opening goal.
Arsenal grew into the contest slowly and saw Samir Nasri – starting despite persistent speculation regarding his future – go close with a neat volley that flew just wide of the post, but chances were few and far between as the Premier League side struggled for fluidity.
On the brink of half-time though, they found an equaliser. Andrei Arshavin looped a pass over the top of the Greentown defence and after Van Persie’s cushioned shot was palmed away by Jiang Bo, Vela was alert to bundle the ball home.
Wenger made 11 changes at half-time and the result was a far more cohesive, energetic performance. Indeed, Arsenal nearly took the lead on 55 minutes when a shot from Aaron Ramsey from the edge of the box threatened to squirm away from the keeper and in.
As Arsenal pressed with much more verve, they continued to create chances and just before the hour mark Ryo Miyaichi laid the ball off to Kieran Gibbs, who saw his low drilled effort palmed away expertly by substitute Gu Chao.
Gibbs was a bundle of energy and on 64 minutes it was his run that resulted in Theo Walcott being played in on the right of the box. His initial shot was blocked and Walcott lobbed the follow-up over the bar. His team-mates, Gibbs especially, were unimpressed.
Walcott was his usual frustrating self but on 78 minutes was unlucky not to score when darting in ahead of his man to meet a cross from Miyaichi and head narrowly over the bar.
Miyaichi and Marouane Chamakh both forced Gu into smart saves in the closing minutes but the Gunners were unable to make a winner materialise.

It’s on News Now, 7th on the top stories in the last 24 hours…
Only just noticed it….
Lukaku is very strong… maybe the new Drogba … maybe… but how many players were “the new Pele”, “the new Eusebio” ?…
Anyway, for me is a godd striker. He is 18 th or 19 th years old and was a revelation of Belgium championat. He has a good shot and is strong in air
hi af, trouble is different papaers say different things, chavs are reported to have offered 18M for him….
Rico, I clikced the link but I get brought here.
But not this post Will, it goes to the Chesney one about him not have weights on the end of his pole… How I don’t know
JM, we were poor today, it was like watching the end of last season….. To date, we have not changed in our defensive mistakes….
That is a bit naughty though.
how many signings do you think we will make….
at the moment just cant think about the signings because we are linked with everyone……
yes, but we must forget last season and be ready, in a good shape, for next challenge and it’s not the case
I know Will, I have emailed NewsNow…..
af – i reckon 2 or 3…
1 or 2 defenders and the oxo….
we all are trying too JM, it seems the players though are carrying on in the same way…. unless we get a quality defender in at the back, i can’t see us changing either…..
The defenders don’t seem to be able to defend against balls over the top, I wonder why.
Maybe they don’t do that in training? Maybe the club need to bring in a better defensive coach – there has to be a simple answer…..
That is exactly it Rico, how many times do you see our midfielders knocking a cheeky one over the top? You know they only play 5-a-side style football at training so when they come up against it, it is alien to them.
we don’t Will, well not very often but what i don’t get and i suppose this is part of my frustration towards Wenger is we all see it and sadly too often, so why doesn’t he do something about it?
i think he concentrates far too much on attacking players and attacking tactics, believing that we will always score more than who we play….
This is why we need that organiser. That voice that shouts at the DM to get the eff back and cover the runner. The voice that demands that his defenders cover their men and the runs.
Song is not a DM.
Not only an organiser, we need a coach to sort them out and NO i do not mean Wenger out, I mean bring in Keown or similar….
I agree. Keown to be the defensive coach.
But does Wenger??
No I think is the answer, and that is what frustrates, leave Wenger to sort the offensive but please, get someone other than Wenger to put right the defensive…….
Guys, i’m heading off, out for dinner so catch you all tomorrow….
Have a good one, nighty night……
We talk about the players so much, how about staff needs at the Arsenal:
1 – New Defensive Coach – for obvious reasons.
2 – New strength and fitness coach – to improve injury prevention.
3 – New physio – to treat injured players.
I think #2 is actually the most critical given Arsenals track record of injuries over the last 6 years. I get the impression that with all their talk (re gps vest, etc) that they think they are better than they actually are. The results speak for themselves, too many injured players.
Doc, we also need to hold the premier league to account, we have had the most long term injured due to “robust” tackles in the league. That is not by accident.
Hi Rico
Other clubs are in debt like man U and winning. It’s not our money so why should we care?
This board is not here to win games, they are here to profit, and the situation will not improve unless the business plan of the board changes
Board out. Wenger out!
Morning All
New Post up…
Alan, we don’t want to be in debt but the board don’t need to be tight either, a happy medium would be ideal… But I do think the board are waiting to sell to a mega rich person and make lots of money…..
