Cheering on Chelsea FC for one night only….

Morning all.

Leicester couldn’t beat Utd at Old Trafford yesterday meaning the neighbours could still win the Premier League title but their chances are slim I’d say, if not, none. In fact if they don’t beat Chelsea tonight, that’s it, over.

I always assumed it was only Arsenal fans who really disliked the other team in north London but no, Chelsea fans despise them too and one fan, Dave Johnstone, of the Chelsea fanzine cfcuk, has been quoted by The Mail as saying:

It would be great to end Tottenham’s season. It will be the match of the season at Stamford Bridge. We hate Tottenham. Everyone at Chelsea hates Tottenham.

The dislike of the Totts goes back to the 1960’s apparently when ‘Spurs were flash, big spenders and Chelsea were a club with a reputation for unearthing their own talent’. In 1967, Chelsea were beaten by Tottenham in the FA Cup final with a team featuring Jimmy Greaves and Terry Venables – both of who had come through the Chelsea Academy. Even worse for the West London side was a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane in 1975 which helped relegate them to the old division two.

But the tables turned, especially after Roman bought the club and spent money like a kid in a sweet shop. Our noisy neighbours haven’t beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1990 and long may that record stand after tonight’s match between the two clubs because no Arsenal fan would want to see pictures of Tottenham winning the league in colour.

Gabriel

Chelsea winning tonight would of course help Arsenal too because there’d still be a chance, slim I know, of us pipping them to second place and securing Champions League football for next season. Man City losing at Southampton yesterday did Arsenal a big favour too and as long as we don’t lose against them next weekend, 3rd place should be guaranteed as long as we can beat Villa at home on the final day of the season of course.

Before anyone shouts me down about a top four finish, I know it’s not good enough, not this season that’s for sure but the most important thing right now is keeping Arsenal in the Champions League to attract better players and keep the good ones we already have.

Arsene Wenger won’t be at the club for ever and when the day comes that he walks away, who knows, we might even win the big competition….

It’s a Bank Holiday here in England today so whatever you are doing on your day off, have fun. The rain is on it’s way in so take an umbrella on your travels….

  2. Le(icester) Coq Monster says:

You are right Rico, it`s not just us who hate The Spuds as your evidence suggests !………….I have quite a few W Ham relatives and they put up more Spud hate photo`s etc` on facebook than any other team, even more than Millwall !…………………….Spuds, most hated team in London !….a trophy they can keep !.

  3. rico says:

Le Coq, I’m hoping Fabregas still does too which might help us later. And Hazard has already said he wants Leicester to win the league..

I wonder why so many London clubs dislike them as much as they do, well, other than us of course…

  4. Le(icester) Coq Monster says:

Delusional inbreds comes to mind !…………..you ever been on a train to Tinytotland ?, on entering the station the driver announces…..” please remember to put your watches back back 54 years !”

  5. Iceman says:

The feeling of euphoria if Chelski nail the stains tonight will carry us all through the summer with a warm glow of satisfaction.

  6. Micko says:

    Morning all,

rico, I’d rather put my faith in karma this evening.

It’s a bit like going down the local garden centre for some seedlings, you bring them home, plant them in the garden, 9 will thrive while 1 will always whither away….you can’t explain it but that’s Tottenham for ya, it’s in their dna !

  7. rico says:

As would them losing the next two after tonight Iceman, well, that’s if Arsenal can win both of theirs…

    Ha ha Micko…

  8. allezkev says:

Herb, have you ever read Bernard Joys book, Forward Arsenal..?
Or, Cliff Bastin Remembers, his autobiography…
If not, then you should, I think you would really enjoy them both…

  9. Herb's Army says:

    Afternoon all.

    Cockie 😀
Seems we have found an intelligent kindred site.
Your comedy will just add to the quality 🙂
And I must say it’s nice to have the shackles loosened.

    Alright Kev.
I’m sure I had a hardback of Bernard Joys book, ‘Forward Arsenal’, but sadly lost it because of moving. Unfortunately I’ve never seen the Cliff Bastin book you refer to, but will now look for it.
I do have ‘Herbert Chapman on Football’ with the sub-heading ‘The Reflections Of Arsenal’s Greatest Manager.’ Nothing to argue with there.
Interesting that you referred to Norris as being the Kroenke of the 1920’s.
I get what you’re saying, but two polar opposites as far as Arsenal are concerned.
Norris had big ambitions for the club, it was he who bought the land in Islington, and financed the building of Highbury. In the first football season after WWI, he got us into the top flight (having finished fifth in the old Division 2, in the last season before the war), and all this was shortly after the club nearly went out of existence at the beginning of the 20th Century.
Neither George Morrell or Leslie Knighton were great managers, but after the war, I can imagine it took a while for the dust to settle and get things back to normal, which is probably why Knighton was given as long as six years. To be fair, Kev, looking at his record, I wouldn’t have trusted him with a transfer budget either.
In Chapman however, Norris struck gold, the evidence is there for us all to see.
If Wenger worked for an owner like Norris, Arsenal would have won multiple European Cups, of that I have no doubt. And if Wenger wasn’t capable, we’d have got someone who was.
Glasgow Rangers saved Arsenal by purchasing some shares, but Norris dragged the club up from the brink of extinction to become the best club in the world.
Herbert Chapman and Bill Struth (long-serving, hugely successful Rangers manager) were good friends, and as well as many ‘friendlies’ between the two clubs, Arsenal presented Rangers with a gift of sixteen shares (which were recently sold to Usmanov), and a solid gold cannon as a gesture of thanks for saving the club.

  10. Herb's Army says:

They’ve got a dreadful record against Chelsea, Rico, and they hate Tottenham as much as we do.
On form naturally Spurs start favourites, and in his four month stint so far, Hiddink’s Chelsea have only won one home game, but hopefully Tottenham have got the same mental block we have against them.
Maybe Fabregas and Hazard will step up…

  11. rico says:

Ah Herb, but according to a Chelsea fan who tried to get on here earlier, Chelsea hate Arsenal more than the Totts…

Counting on Fabregas and the loss of Alli in midfield could make a difference…

  12. Herb's Army says:

Both are extremely jealous of what The Arsenal represent, Rico.
We have and always will be classier than both.
Tottenham wish they had a history to match ours, and Chelsea trying to buy what we’ve always had.

  13. Herb's Army says:

Anyway Rico, stop being so modest.
At least you make an effort to entertain us all.
What happened to Wath? I used to enjoy his input. Hope he’s well.

  14. Wavy says:

Come on Leicester, positive thoughts, concentrate really hard on the chavs winning and think really bad thoughts about the spuds! Thought is a very powerful tool!
Go win the EPL use your cunning, foxes!

  15. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Evening Lovelies and Hunkies.

Supporting the chavs Rico. From when???? 😉 hehe I am supporting them as well. Yes even if a team of cockroaches play against them.

I like the look of Herb and Le Coq. Their posts are interesting. We, mere mortals of HH, salute you.

Chavs started game strongly, but the scum are getting a foothold.

  16. allezkev says:

    Good comments Herb.

If my memory serves me right, didn’t Knighton end up as Chelsea manager.
And to fair to him, he was working under financial restrictions, restrictions that the great Chapman never had to…

And Knighton was responsible for bringing some quite decent players to the club, like Jimmy Brain, Bob John, Blyth, Butler, Lewis and Baker, who were all great servants of the club and who were the basis of Chapmans teams that reached Wembley in 1927 and were league runners-up in 1926.

    Interesting thoughts all the same.

Bastins book is superb, especially as it covers the 1930’s…

  17. allezkev says:

You gotta hand it the Scum, they’re not folding, like Arsenal did earlier this season.

It’s amazing what some motivation from the manager can achieve…

  18. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good to see you are ok Kev.

resting and lazing are good for us. we need them sometimes.

a massive turnaround is needed. but I doubt the chavs are strong enough to do so.

  19. allezkev says:

Coach, I’m listening to the radio, seems that the Scum are leaving/ putting their foot in…

Potter I make you right, a red card for the Middlesex mob is on the cards.

  20. potter says:

3 points gap. Just think how much we will miss those goals we never went for whilst we were showboating.

  21. Joaquim Moreira says:

how could the Totts finish without a red card?
With a normal refere will be 5 or 6!!!

  22. Micko says:

    Haha, football isn’t broken afterall.

55 years and the wait continues……………

    Nite Gooners,

    Nite Kev,

    Nite Yiddo’s.

  23. allezkev says:

    Morning All…

Congratulations to Leicester City is in order.

A team of rejects, misfits and no marks, managed by a bloke derided as the tinker man…

Just goes to show what defensive organisation, hard work, team spirit, motivation, putting the team before yourself, having a pop at goal, can get you…

Do Arsenal really have all those qualities or do we just think we do?

Never mind, whilst the Leicester players celebrate the Arsenal can go on social media and do what they do…

  24. Le Coq Monster says:

Morning and what a morning !……I`m sure the Cornish sun is a relieved Gooner, it`s got it`s hat on and coming out to play !.
Cant say how much a relief that was last night !, I`m now off the medication and dont have worry about The Samaritans not returning my calls !…………………and can now go back to hating Leicester as well !.

    55 years and counting ! 😆

  25. Hell Raising Devil says:

It was easier to find water on Mars then to find a COLOUR picture of a spuddie captain winning the top division.

    Congratulations Leicester City.

I cannot add anything to all that Kev has said. Leicester have proved to be real men with balls.

Now for the 2nd place trophy. We might just nick it if we win our last two games and the spuddies don’t garner more than two more points.

Now that would be a larf and a half.

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

  26. Hell Raising Devil says:

With the emergence of Elneny and also Coquelin in the heart of midfield, does anyone honestly think that AW will buy another midfielder????

    Think about it.

We have Elneny, Coquelin, Aaron, Cazorla and Wilshere for those spots.

Yes we would like Xhaka and Kante to come to AFC…..but let’s be honest. Will AW sanction a move for any of these two??? You can bet anything you want….but I will be very surprised if he does.

Imo he will get one of Benatia and Rafinha plus a striker or winger if Theo and Ollie go.

But the OX will stay at AFC.

  27. Lee says:

The spuds have won the championship twice in their entire history, we’ve won it twice at shit hart lane! #justsaying

  28. Lee says:

Wenger won’t be ruthless enough in the summer with the current squad and it’ll be a rinse repeat next season!

  29. Hell Raising Devil says:

Aye I know Rico. But that is the excuse that AW will point out and state what will he do with so many players when they return. AW put his foot down with TR07 and extended his contract when the player wanted to return to Czech republic. So he will do so with Santi if he wants to.

  30. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. Without wishing to take anything away from the comedy of last night’s game, by my estimation Spurs should probably have had 5 players sent off. The two full backs, Lamela, Dier and Vertoghen could easily have gone and even that little shithead Mason was a prime candidate too. In which case the game would have been abandoned. Ironically, the players seemed to abandon it as a ‘game’ quite early on and in assigning Clattenberg, Riley ensured a pussy approach to discipline. When you consider the way Arsenal have been treated by refs in the past and how many players we have had sent off for essentially nothing, last night was a sham. Clattenberg began as he meant to go on, by allowing crazy, manic tackles go unpunished and the players upped the violence and spite in response.
Consider the payback in terms of fines and bans that the authorities extracted from us after the Old Trafford brawl or the Chelsea turn out at Wembley and then think about the fact that the Crisp Muching Moron himself has called for a retrospective ban for Mesut after he walked away from the ref last Saturday. What does that mean for last night? Pochettino on the pitch uninvited, massed players pushing shoving and gouging (oops, you can add that prick Dembele to the list of red cards too) and a full scale knockabout after the whistle with the Spurs reserve goalkeeper at its heart.
It was fun I will admit, but you can see the direction that Pochettino is dragging Spurs. And for once Costa was relatively calm. Well, sort of. I even saw him behave as a peacemaker at times.

  31. Hell Raising Devil says:

Was it fun???? It was depressing stuff…..depressing and anger knowing that with the right approach and right acquisitions and right attitude we could have walked this league.

  32. rico says:

We’ll see I guess Devil, but just like most, I expect more of the same this summer.

Morning Adam, well said. I quite enjoyed the little handbags but I hope the FA get involved and hit Spurs hard… They were a disgrace.

  33. Hell Raising Devil says:

We won both games against Leicester and drew both with the Spuds.

We have also taken off points from Shitty and we still have to play them next weekend.

So in essence both teams are not superior to us.

the attitude of our players and manager stink

  34. tsgh says:

    Very pleased for the tinkerman…

The Spuds thinking they could win the league must make them the most deluded lot.. 🙂

Now, will he get sacked after next season as per usual?

  35. Joe says:

If the spuds don’t get a points deduction for last night’s display will it not be further evidence that there is an on going and historical basis against Arsenal football club within the fa.

  36. tsgh says:

Hi Joe, you know it goes without saying that the media establishment wanted the spud to win the league…
It always amazes me how the spuds are considered a progressive club whilst we are…

  37. rico says:

I doubt they will Joe as it would help Arsenal…

Do you think so Ts? I thought everyone wanted Leicester to win it. Apart from the bookies that is…

  38. tsgh says:

Rico- you probably right. Most football fans wanted Leicester to win but a month or so ago when the spuds had a chance and we looked like we wouldn’t even make Europa league sections of media wanted the spuds to win…

  39. Hell Raising Devil says:

Are you sure the bookies did not want Leicester to win???

Imo the bookies wanted them to win. How many bets were placed on Leicester winning the EPL?? How many bets were placed before the season began on one of the following winning the league…..Arsenal, Chelsea, Shitty, Manure????

Imo the bookies wanted Leicester because only a handful placed bets on them.

And how many placed bets on Leicester going down??? I can bet there were many.

So all in all…….the bookies are happiest.

  40. Adam says:

Spurs have traditionally had an easy time from the media though TS. Though I doubt many of them have made the unforgettable trip down Tottenham High Road that often. I don’t blame them, as it is a disgusting place full of ghastly people with strangely shaped heads and webbed feet with fried chicken detritus hanging from their toothless mouths as they attempt to suck nutrients from grease.

  41. Hell Raising Devil says:

Go back a few years……the 4-4 draw against NUFC.

See some of the results……not only our results. but also other clubs’ results. 2-0 or 3-0 up by half time and then bang all draw.

Some results are too obvious. Sometimes I am watching the bets during the game on the internet and see the changing rates. And I tell my old Pa this game is going to finish with this score. And usually I get it right.

A couple of seasons ago I even told him that Mertesacker will score on that day. You can bet he did……twice. one an own goal and another one for us……..before the game.

Just go on betting sites……sometimes its damned obvious

  42. tsgh says:

True Dev.. all the far east and Indian sites

I always use to say that if the corporate world was legit, Sky Sports would not be allowed to operate betting as well…

  43. Adam says:

TS. I don’t mind a bit of fried chicken ocassionally but I prefer to chew it rather than suck the fatty deposits from the sickening exterior carcass. 🙂
I understand that, in Tottenham, it has become a badge of honour and is often found displayed alongside the flat screen TVs and striking white trainers liberated during the recent riots.

  44. Hell Raising Devil says:

A few weeks ago one of the Housers said that a heavy bet had been placed in the far east, on a player being sent off during one of our games. Cant remember rightly which game it was.

Lo and behold a few minutes later an opposition player got his marching orders.

  45. rico says:

🙂 Adam. Not sure the West Brom goals were though, or the late equaliser at Anfield, or the Palace one just a week ago…. I’m sure there are more but I can’t be bothered… 😉
