Celebrating 125 Years with what else but 1-0 to the Arsenal…..

Yesterday marked our football club’s 125th anniversary and we celebrated it pre-match festivities, a guard of honor – comprised of some select Arsenal legends – for our team, as it made its way on the pitch.

While it has to be said that our performance did not match the occasion – perhaps the occasion even contributed to what was a largely dis-jointed, stop-start effort – nothing was as important as getting three points.

We accomplished this and moved up to fourth place; if Man City can win at Stamford Bridge on Monday, we will stay there for at least the week…

One of our Premiership constants is that we simply don’t lose home league fixtures to Everton. It has never happened under Arsene’s watch. In fact, I was in the Highbury Clock End with three friends when Everton last won on our patch – under Joe Royle in January 1996.

We squandered a first-half Wrighty goal, allowing a Stuart equalizer shortly after the break, and Kanchelskis (of all people!) winner just a few minutes before the end. Since that result, our home has pretty much been a graveyard for the Toffees; we have won more than our share at Goodison Park as well.

Yesterday’s task was simple, extend their winless run on our soil and get three points.

Considering the occasion (anniversary celebration) and need (league points against formidable opponents), Arsene restored the big boys for today’s clash.

We lined up Szczesny, TV (left back), Mert, Kos, JD (right back), Arteta, Song, Ramsey, Theo, Robin, and Gerv. Al, Miquel, Rosicky,

Frim, Benny, Arsh and Chamakh made our bench.

Both teams made a slow start and while the atmosphere inside the ground was fantastic, the atmosphere on the pitch was, well, flat…Neither side found an early rhythm.

Fifteen minutes in, we had our first real chance and should have scored. Arteta sent Theo free down the right. He squared the ball for Gerv, but the latter could not control it, and Hibbert was able to clean it up for Everton. On 30 minutes, Song picked Ramsey out in the area but the latter could only drop his shot onto the roof of the net.

Gerv then drew a save from Howard after a direct run and low shot.

Just a couple of minutes before the break, we had a shout for a penalty when TV’s header may have hit Jagielka’s arm. Referee Webb gave nothing and replays showed he got it right, as the ball hit Jags in the midriff, not arm.

Just before the whistle, Saha tried a pop from distance and was not too far wide.

No changes were made at the interval and we got the second half underway. There was an early scare when Theo went down awkwardly but he was able to continue after a spot of treatment. The first ten minutes of the half were rather choppy, with players from both sides getting caught offside.

Just prior to the hour, Theo collected the ball with Baines in close attendance, flicked it outside the Everton defender, breezed by him and cut into the area, bringing a fine save from Howard with a fierce shot. That was a brief moment of inspiration, and the game quickly settled back into the former pattern…

On 65 minutes, Moyes made his first change, bringing defender Distin on in the place of forward Saha, implying he would settle for a point. A few minutes later, both Rosicky and Arsh got up off the bench to warm up prior to coming on.

On 70 minutes, we finally made the breakthrough. There did not appear to be much on when Song collected the ball in midfield but he advanced towards the Everton area and then sent a great chip in towards Robin, who volleyed with his left foot, sending the ball in off the far post.

A great goal to liven up an otherwise drab match. Rosicky and Arsh promptly sat down after the goal.

Moyes waited a few more minutes and made a double switch, bringing Gueye and McAleny on for Bilyaletdinov and Neville. With 10 minutes remaining, Fellaini elbowed TV hard as they tussled, laying him out for a few minutes. The latter was clearly shaken up, and Arsene made a double switch on 82, withdrawing TV for Miquel, and Gerv for Rosicky. Frim then replaced Theo just prior to 90, as

Everton dominated possession but didn’t really threaten us…

However, we almost lost the win in the third minute of stoppage time. Mert’s weak header fell directly to McAleny, who drilled an angled shot narrowly wide of Szczesny’s far post – a little closer to the left, and I think that would have been an equalizer. To me, Szczesny did not look to have it covered. Nevertheless, the final whistle went a little under a minute later, and we celebrated our anniversary with – what else? – a 1-0 win…

The win was most welcome, but the performance wasn’t great. A couple of weeks back, we rested just about all of our starting eleven for the Carling Cup tie against Man City and then the first team produced a sluggish, unimpressive performance in a 1-1 home draw versus Fulham.

Then, after we rest our first eleven again, they don’t perform particularly well upon restoration. Perhaps I am making a fuss over nothing, but it’s just something I noticed…

Of course, Everton had much to do with our subdued effort. We may have a good record against them but we rarely have an easy ride against them and yesterday was no exception. They defended well, frustrated us and could have gotten something from the match.

Their problem was evident – a lack of quality up front. The only time Szczesny touched the ball today was to collect crosses/corners, or take goal kicks. I think Everton took 10-12 shots, but didn’t get anything on goal…

So at the end of the day, we got the job done and collected another 3 points. We now face away trips to Eastlands and Villa Park. One of those will be extremely difficult and the other will be eminently winnable.

With the Champions League on hold for a couple of months, the league is the only game in town until we face Leeds in the FA Cup shortly after the New Year. As long as we stay healthy and play well, there’s no reason we cannot continue climbing the table.

We may be only fourth but there is plenty of room of us above it.

Morning Guys and Gals – good write up oliver…

1-0 – it just had to be on such a big weekend…….

What a goal by RvP…. and Songs part played wasn’t too bad either….

  2. goonster says:

Just seen the chesny clip. That guy just burns me up. Legend in the making. Last week he serenaded us….yesterday he kissed robin’s boot, what’s next? Maybe he ll do a hula dance at the eastlands after we thump those mercenary hordes. Morning guys….rico, took you long enough. You re doing this on purpose. That am sure of!

  3. stevepalmer1 says:

    Nice one Oliver.
Reading between your lines Oliver you give me the impression that you are starting to question all these rest spells the players are recieving. I believe a sharp player relies on playing regular, winning games is like taking a pep pill, sitting on the touchline does not help anybody in my mind. when a man is fit and keen to play, he should be playing, and i don’t believe that anybody at this stage of the season can be tired. Robin had a rest and comes back with a lacklustre performance, he scores an outstanding goal late on but didn’t look that sharp, his magic spell is coming to an end and i am afraid we may have have missed the chance to have seen more goals. I would like Wenger to buy players in January but will he, Wilshere and Sagna Jenkinson and Gibbs will all seem like new players, most of those will have played very little football come the halfway stage, please don’t tell me we are going to rest them as well. Good report as all ways.

  4. rico says:

    Morning steve,

i got that impression too, it seems as though the rested players struggle to get going again and get back to where they left off….

But we did rest an awful lot midweek which goes back to resting too many at one time…

  5. goonster says:

I think they were nervy rico…..with all them past heroes sitting in the stands the lady were so eager to impress. Anyway I still think we did pretty well. Kozzer is just something else. Didn’t see it live but I vd watched it 6 times during the night. What a show from our club. Makes one proud to be a gooner. Saw a lot of old players I didn’t know but I wish someone ll point out that mclintock fella for me. He deserves a whupping. The nerve of that man….how dare he shows his face after slagging us off when we were struggling. The only heroes present were henry parlour and Dixon(I take). Didn’t even know o leary played for us. Man, there is a whole lot I don’t know about the arsenal.

  6. Agbo Matthew says:

Yesterday was a very happy day 4 me,seeing Van perse do it again! Although my hapines turned sour wen i got a call dat i lost my uncle to death!…Al d same,i say congrats 2 my darling club(Arsenal fc)

  7. stevepalmer1 says:

Stan, if you ever get a chance to watch a clip of an old player who would i think be right up your street Peter Story he was a right tough nut mad as a hatter at times and you don’t get to hear of him much nowadays but he was a tough un

  8. rico says:

Very nervous goonster, a big weekend but in the end we got the points, and now we sit 4th 🙂

    Or dull ones Steve 😉

  9. goonster says:

Here’s hoping for a few red cards and a career threatening injury to a few of the shitty players. I could use a few injuries to yaya and silva while aguero and kompany pick up red cards. A guy a dream,no?

  10. Bob N7 says:

Goonster, you make me feel old. I was there at O’Leary’s first home game….
At his best one of the top CBs in the world- had Kempes(WC winner with Argentina in his pocket CWC final ’80).
Record number of appearances in The Red and White!

Slightly blotted his copybook when Leeds manager, making a few dodgy comments BUT he should be considered an all time great.

  11. K-TR7 says:

Anyone catch the el classico last night?…as annoying as barça are they are pretty damn good and it showed.cesc though goal aside was a spectator.

  12. goonster says:

am sorry bob I guess I ll be telling a kid the same 30 years down the line. Thanks anyway its always nice to sit and listen to you life long gooners. So which one’s mclintock? I ve got a bone to pick with him.

  13. stevepalmer1 says:

Stan, I think he was a right back for us But he also pushed up quite a bit, he played for England many times and must have played 500 odd times for us he was an animal and labled as one of the hardest buggers around, As i remember he blotted his copybook by being sent off early in a cup final i think it was an FA cup but there wasn’t many that enjoyed a game against him

  14. K-TR7 says:

Madrid scored within 22 seconds of the start and looked like running away with it.Ronaldo was the worst player of the 22 on the pitch imo.he missed very good chances right before barça went up the other end to score their 2nd and 3rd.in the 2nd half he had a free header which didn’t even trouble valdez.

  15. Bob N7 says:

Peter Storey played CM for the most part- ‘overlapped’ with Pat Rice who was the RB for many, many years. Tough tackling, no messing sort of a player. Ended up in prison…….

  16. stevepalmer1 says:

Stan, Frank Mclintock was a true Arsenal legend he was an Arsenal man through and through he would run through walls for the red and white, he’s knocking on a bit now and the old swede goes a bit, but he was a true Gunner. they live in the past a lot of them and talk in the past as well but he was alright.

  17. goonster says:

Yeah I know steve but he did diss us. You ll never hear bryan robson, mark hughes or fat face steve Bruce lay into Ferguson the way he and wrighty have been tearing wenger apart. He (wenger) deserves most of the criticism that comes his way but why on earth will any “self acclaimed gonner” go on talk shite and spout crap about us. They need to learn from ray parlour lee Dixon and TH14. These are legends to me…..not wrighty or mclintock! End of.

  18. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Good read Oliver, are you sure you weren’t there ?

Watched the highlights last night, thought we were very wasteful once again in front of goal first half, but what a goal by rvp with 20 minutes to go, anyone who has played the game will know what a fantastic finish that was.

Goonster, Frank McLintock is up there with some of the best of our captains, he’s a good guy, like all of us he just likes to get a few things off his chest from time to time, nothing wrong with that, he bleeds arsenal.

  19. stevepalmer1 says:

If you had watched them play Stan i think you may felt a bit diferent, but i understand where your coming from mate

  20. goonster says:

Yeah mama bear….hopefully crouch ll give them a few things to think about. I just hope the northern rugby team takes the maximum 3 points available.

  21. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning Micko,
Yeh we missed a few mate didn’t we, Not sure Theo knows what to do at times should he shoot or should he pass, but all down to the learning process i suppose hope he gets it right soon though

  22. goonster says:

Thanks steve….maybe I will. Mclintock does sound like a tough bastard. I bet he tore up a few spuds in his time. Would like to know more about them old timers. Morning micko…..feeling giddy are ya?

  23. Micko says:

Hi Steve, from what i saw it looked like walcott had another good game, he’s finally getting his act together, anyone would think he’s looking for a new extension on his contract, if he carries on like he is he could have a really good season.

  24. Micko says:

Goonster, I woke up with a nose bleed, hard to believe we’ve reached the giddy heights of 4th, it was a million miles away a couple of months back, it’s gonna be a tricky one next week.

  25. goonster says:

Hopefully the chavs ll help us batter their northern counterparts. A few red cards and an injury ll be welcomed by yours truly. We ll get a result at eastland micko….am positive.

  26. agirlagunner says:

oliver, great match report as always. I am sure the occasion played no mean part in what was a largely ordinary performance by the lads; but if we continue to churn out this type of result, I really wouldn’t find anything to moan about! And of course the one-nil scoreline was strangely fitting.

I have seen the match again, and against a better team, our toothlessness in front of goal would be something to lament; but RvP, bless him, has yet again come to our rescue. Yay!!

    Boo, rico. Hello, all. 🙂

  27. goonster says:

Hi ya agag…..we did keep a clean sheet too. Our second in as many games. Things are definitely looking up. Our defense looks better than it had been in years. With bac sagna and wilshere to come back we really could push for the (whisper it) title!

  28. agirlagunner says:

JD needs to be less panicky though, goonster. And (in hushed tones) don’t go broadcasting to all and sundry AFC’s plans for world domination. Shhhh.

KT, not bad for Cesc’s first El Classico. 😉 Ronaldo missed a sitter. Valdez on goal was almost as bad!! How I laughed at his nervy performance.

  29. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Agag, you always sound enthusiastic and so you should, as soon as our boys start converting some of these chances we will become the force i know we posess, Our finishing for some time has been woefull, one on ones we miss out every time, i just don’t understand it, Robin hits spectacular goals but the easy ones we miss, we have crept up the table but with better finishing we could have made this much easier for ourselves. I feel we need an early goal to let us play our best, we seem more relaxed and i always feel we’ll score again.

  30. agirlagunner says:

Hello, steve. Howdy? Sometimes we do revert to the tippy tappy one pass too many and make a meal of truly gilt-edged chances. But Gervinho and Arteta have given us a new more direct approach, and confidence has soared. That is very promising.

Was disappointed (and angry at the time) with the opportunities we squandered in the first half, but at least we were trying. The Toffees did well to try to contain us; but their lack of ambition was ultimately their undoing. Even Moyes said they were lucky to go into the second half with the 0-0 scoreline.

A little more composure in front of goal, will see us through, I think. And JD taking control of his flank, please. I cannot wait to have a natural fullback again. Come on Santos/Sagna/Gibbs!

  31. goonster says:

I really think its curtains for chamakh you guys. The podolski rumors won’t die and PSG really wants chamakh. 8 million pounds for a player we got on a free is good business no?

  32. stevepalmer1 says:

I think your right there Stan, Chammy needs to move on. JD never looks comfortable he can go with him in my eyes Sqilly too

  33. stevepalmer1 says:

Whats your view on Torres in an Arsenal shirt could our style suit him, he could be in our price range soon. could we turn him round maybe a swop with Chammy

  34. gunnerpete says:

TODAY…I feel so old its untrue..to see so many players that most of you think are ‘old’ really hit me. There are so many players who have died that I still talk about with my grandsons, that I think we need to get the fans of today educated about the MEN who really made this club.

Above some mention ‘Storey’….well he was effective but would not get in todays squad of 24 because of pure dirt.

Of the 1970/72 team that never get a mention toady I would pick Pete Simpson & Eddie Kelly as the unsung heroes. Both were top class and would walk into today first eleven.

Further back, have any of you heard of Joe Haverty, John McLeod, Danny Clapton, Dave Bowen, Jack Kelsey, ?

As for midfield strong but classy….we will never have a better one than the great Tommy Docherty who transformed a very average side into a very good team. sadly, he was sold soon after his one season…AND THAT IS THE TRUE STORY OF AFC. Our directors have always sold for profit asap….even breaking up the double winning squad fro money rather than buying to make them unbeatable…Things never change.

  35. goonster says:

Jd needs to play less with squilly and flappy. He was one of our stand out performers last term. He and kozzer did keep drogba and rooney quiet at the EMS. He just needs to play with the first team more. Confidence breeds confidence. Squid is damaged goods. There is no repairing that one…..almunia did him in big time. Poor fella.

  36. K-TR7 says:

Puyol was a beast yesterday.i hope vermy can be such a player for us.despite ronaldo having pace advantage he rarely got in behind puyi.immense performance from him.

  37. goonster says:

Steve Torres will fit in right away…he’s played in that same style for the dippers. He ll be a great addition to the squad. Unfortunately I don’t see it happening. The chavs ll won’t sell to a rival besides they ll wanna make some of that 50m back.

  38. agirlagunner says:

gunnerpete, I don’t know 3/4 of the names you mentioned. AK, where’s that present?? Help!! You know, goonster and STV are probably in their very early twenties. They make me feel old as well. 😀 😀

steve, Torres we all know how good Torres looked in red. And he would look even better in a red kit with white sleeves. 😎

  39. stevepalmer1 says:

Gunner Pete, you certainly come out with some blinders there mate. a couple more for you Georgy Armstrong John Radford supermac 125 years of shear magic and still going

  40. stevepalmer1 says:

How much would anybody spend for Torres, Wenger would love that challenge to turn him round, and i bet he could

  41. allezkev says:

    Afternoon Gooners.
Wenger probably wouldn’t go above £20m for Torres.
And Arsenal simply would never pay him the wages he gets at the Chavs.
But it’s a nice thought Steve

  42. goonster says:

He’s a wenger type signing in the making steve….he’s got all the ingredients. Class player fallen from grace, languishing on the subs bench fans getting on his back. Who does that remind you of? Unfortunately we are rivals and they won’t sell besides the price tag ll definitely rule us out. But what a player to have in our ranks.

  43. goonster says:

Hi ya KEV….you? Hangover? Did you switch lives with lee? Talk about the devil himself…where the heck is lee?

  44. allezkev says:

If yesterday’s result showed anything it showed the desperate need we have of replacing Chamakh with a striker who can help take the load off of RVP.

  45. agirlagunner says:

AK!! Are you finally off for your long break?? goonster has had a bad influence on you. 😛

Torres is class. And in terms of playing style and technique, he has AFC written all over him. He is the only player outside AFC I am ever bothered to watch.

  46. allezkev says:

Stan, as the song goes, ‘red red wine, goes to my head’
    And it’s still in there…
    Lee is about Stan.
    He’ll be on here later.
You still on the wagon Stan?

  47. allezkev says:

No agag. Got next week, then that’s it for me, off home for a fortnight.
It’s just a pity that Wenger couldn’t get TH14 back for a short apell.
Imagine having Thierry coming off of the bench with 20 mins to go against a tiring opposition defence?

  48. stevepalmer1 says:

You know what, i reckon Torres would take a cut in wages he would fit in well and Chelski would want him off the wages bill, with his shit form they may believe it would hamper us instead of aiding Bentner Chamakh and Vella Denilson Eboue must be a deal there somewhere i know.

  49. agirlagunner says:

That’s not too bad, AK. 🙂 A fortnight at home (or somewhere nice) sounds lovely. Maybe TH14 doesn’t want to either. He would have a tough time reliving his own history at our club.

steve, I quite like your views on Torres. Oh, the possibilities. He’s a truly outstanding player; at present, in even worse form than Chamakh. I wish we could get him. 🙂

goonster, good for you. Listen to your mum; they know better. 🙂 🙂

  50. allezkev says:

You stay on the tea & coffee Stan.
    I wish i had..!
You might be right about Torres taking a pay~cut Steve.
But the only way the Chavs would give us Torres would be if we gave them RVP.
Chelsea aren’t stupid. There’s no way thwy would let a rival have one of their top players.
    ManUre don’t do it.
    Shittie won’t do it.
    Liverpool never do it.
Only Arsenal are mug enough to do it.

  51. devilgunner says:

Afternoon guys and chicks of the gunners’ faith.

Great three points yesterday and I would settle for going back to fifth again if and only if the chavs win against shitty so that they will end their unbeaten run. It will be great to know that only Arsenal are the only invincibles…..and will remain so at least for another season.

How do you feel AK vecchio amico???

  52. Joaquim Moreira says:

yes, Storey and MaClintock layed at the some time. Good players.
O’Leary was vary good central back.
Barça won yesterday. I like it 🙂

  53. goonster says:

Hey DG where have you been fella? I have a feeling the game tomorrow ll end in a stalemate but with both teams visibly bruised only for us to go to the eastlands and “do” them. How sweet ll it be to end their run…..poetic justice right?

  54. Joaquim Moreira says:

I’m not support them. My favourite club in spain is other one. Anyway, Real Madrid never.
    Penalty for ajax…no! RKC 0 ajax 1

  55. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Window transfer:
    Gaitán (Benfica) – MU ?
javi Garcia (Benfica) – MU ?
    M’Villa (Rennes ) – Real Madrid?
    Lampard (Chelsea) – Tottenham ?

  56. goonster says:

Looks like manure ll be strengthening big time jm. Anyway as long we do too I ve got nothing to worry about.

  57. Joaquim Moreira says:

yes, with Vidic out, out of CL too, they must improve in the League europe, be in the four 4th positions in the League and in the FA Cup.
Park was registerd for the CL ? Probably is the reason he didn’t play in Athens. However he must be in January in replace who? Nasri wasn’t. If not, he couldn’y play for M.City. Bendtner? Dis he play versus Udinese?

  58. Micko says:

Something to mull over, rvp now has 15 league goals this season, in joint second place lagging a country mile behind are vermealen, gervinho and arteta all on 3 goals.
Begs the question, what the hell are our other forwards being paid for.

  59. rico says:

    😆 Micko…

Watching RvP, that’s what they are doing…

Just a suggestion and thinking about BB’s problems right now, we could do with The Yak 🙂

  60. Micko says:

They need him more than us rico, he’s their only hope of staying up, he was another player the papers linked with us 2 or 3 seasons back, he wouldn’t have cost a lot either.
The team really need to start chipping in a bit more don’t they.

  61. agirlagunner says:

Logging off for the day. (Some people are so disagreeable 😉 )

rico, your Stokie Pokie’s not disappointed so far. 😀

    Nightnight, all!

  62. rico says:

Just think how may he’d get for us now though Micko 😉

Nighty agag, rest well and think of a few more Stokie goals 🙂

  63. rico says:

    Hi JM, cracking 🙂

AK, he’s 29 and BB can’t pay players wages right now, i’d have him in red and white…. 🙂

  64. goonster says:

Yaku what? No way. I saw him at the world cup for cameroon he was shit. No yakubu on my team kev. Thank you.

  65. allezkev says:

Well then, you never know Rico?
    He looks an Arsene signing.
Not cup~tied in europe and at an age where he would give you everything, a la Arteta.

  66. rico says:

goonster – we need a goal scorer, Yak managed four last weekend, he’s clinical – what more do you want?? 😉

Buying a £50M striker isn’t always the answer, just look at Torres…

Too many fans look to a price tag before looking at what our needs are…. imho

  67. rico says:

Hi Lee, the neigbours will come out all guns blazing….

spot-on AK – he’s bloody big and strong too and one heck of a shot on him….

  68. goonster says:

Rico you know I ll never advocate for us signing a 50m type player but yakubu is not the answer. We need better maybe a loic remy?

  69. K-TR7 says:

Yakubu is capable of that rico but he is very inconsistent.he can score 4 one week but go for 2 months without scoring again.he had the worst miss at the WC 2010 when Nigeria needed just a single goal against S.korea to qualify for the KO stages.no can do.

  70. goonster says:

17 million will take him off marseille. He still young and reminds me of a young thierry and he’s a gooner!

  71. allezkev says:

According to the EPL’s own data, Yohan Cabaye has covered more distance in the 15 games Newcastle have played this season. Than any other player in the EPL . That’s 103.1 miles.
2nd on 102 miles is Aaron Ramsey!

  72. rico says:

    When is Arry’s hearing??

I’d love him to be Lestered 😉

The Scum fans would protest on the Piggott line 😉

  73. rico says:

    How is Remy a Gooner??

AK, there is an ex gooner at Nowich, we let him go when he was young but i can’t remember his name, he was saying yesterday he was heartbroken that day and ended up getting kicked out of school as he went off the rails….

    He covers 7.5 miles a game… Phew, tiring 😉

  74. Lee says:

Winterburn was waffling in a red top saying that AFC need to show intent in Jan & the summer in order to keep RVP!!

  75. rico says:

Winterburn is right… Just one signing could be enough, two would be perfect…

And get rid of a few on big wages….

  76. Lee says:

I really hope it’s two…..getting shot of the shit will help to fund it and AW will still have money in the bank!!

  77. rico says:

We still have money from the summer, get Almunia wage alone off our books and that can give RvP a nice pay increase, and Theo…

Striker and Vertonghen – Simples 😛

  78. K-TR7 says:

Looking at rvp’s volley again you can see how sweetly struck it was, absolute perfection.i bet he barely felt the ball fly off his boot.

  79. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Who can answer me:
    When Diaby is comming back?
    Sagna? Jenkinson? Gibb? Santos? Wilshere?
When is tottenham – Everton ?
AW knows Chamack and Gervinho will be out in January. The solution is Park and OX. But aren’t those the solutions for the moment?

  80. goonster says:

Bollox why are the spuds getting penalty in every match? If I don’t know any better I ll say the FA, media and ref association wants them to finish above us just to spite wenger.

  81. Micko says:

JM, i just rang diaby, the message on his phone said “I’m out at the moment, I’ve no idea when I’ll be back”
    Hope that helps.

  82. goonster says:

You guys are enough for someone to shit himself. What’s the score and how long do they have to play for? Come on stoke.

  83. devilgunner says:

First it was the Chavs, then it was Newcastle, now I hope its a bad run for the scum and Shitty plus Manure.

    Hi all.

Did they say they will erect a Statue of Mr Foy at the Brittania Stadium????

  84. goonster says:

Sunderland with nicky pink boots should be a handful for those scums. Hopefully he ll score a few and head butt that monkey faced bastard bale. Come on sunderland.

  85. stevepalmer1 says:

Just got back from the golf club which was packed with spuds a great first half and the club emptied, came home and text them all they all moaned about the ref i told them he was great not enjoyed an afternoon so much for ages

  86. rico says:

hi steve, twas a fab afternoon……

Hopefully for Jan JM, Wenger will rectify that… But until then, it’s going to be tough….

Just two points between us and them now, they have a game in hand…..

  88. goonster says:

Yeah but that game in hand is against everton. Besides we know a game in hand don’t mean nothing until its actually played. The totts have a torrid February. They ll drop a number of points then. Its a down ward slide from now on for those scummers.

  89. devilgunner says:

A good weekend to be an Arsenal supporter. We celebrate our birthday with a win, we go up in the table, the rabble which live a few kilometres up the road loose. A nice weekend. Now for the chavs to wrap it up by defeating shitty.

  90. Micko says:

The only reason they have a game in hand is because our poor relations up the road thought they would go and do their christmas shopping early in August, they really are scum.

Have a good evening gooners, catch you all tomorrow, I’m with you devil, I hope chelski do citeh, the sooner they get beat the better, the invincible’s tag is ours for keeps.

  91. rico says:

See you Micko, have a good one….

But if City beat the Chavs, it keeps them away from taking 4th DG, it’s a tough one but… definately need Citeh to lose sooner rather than later, was hoping we would be the ones 😉

  92. devilgunner says:

I agree Rico. But defeating shitty is enough of a burden. If we add the psychological load of having to defeat shitty so that we can preserve the invincible tag then I feel it will be too much of a mental block for our players. Remember that we are still growing.

  93. rico says:

Good point DG – i’d take a draw there to be honest but just have a feeling we are due a great game after our last two and next weekend will be it….

goonster, the one he ran the length of the pitch to score then ran back to our fans via the away ones, to this day he says it was his fav goal, i wonder why 😉

3-1 that day, just great 🙂

  94. devilgunner says:

The 5-4 win when he dribbled around all the scum players, the substitutes, the coaching staff and the match officials before finally planting the ball in the net.

He wanted to run around the scum supporters also but the clock was ticking towards the end of the ninety minutes so he did not have enough time.

  95. allezkev says:

No Rico. I believe you got it right.
I was sitting in the West Stand when he did and slid on his knees in front of the scummers.

  96. allezkev says:

I see that Francis Coquelin’s contract expires in 18 months time.
I also see that Lille want him on loan next month.
Wonder if a swap deal involving Hazard could be brewing?

  97. allezkev says:

Remember, he had a full season in France playing regular in Ligue Un.
This August, with Jack injured he must have fancied his chances of a bit more 1st team exposure.
Then in comes Arteta & Benny and he’s back in the fringes.

  98. devilgunner says:

Maybe AK is more right than I am. He was there so I might be confusing dates and scores. But the most important thing is the fact that it was against the scum.

  99. oliver says:

evening all. thanks for the feedback and comments…

steve, as regards your 9:41 am comment about squad rotation, i see it as a double-edged sword. i think we need to rest players occasionally, as many of our players start to get jaded with uninterrupted starts. i think we are more susceptible to this because arsene pretty much starts the same eleven most matches – in my opinion, he uses his bench poorly most of the time.

two subdued performances immediately following resting 9/11 of our starting lineup has not escaped my notice, but i think the contributory factors are more than just the break. i would say there was an element of overconfidence against fulham, and yesterday’s festivities may have been a distraction as well. of course, neither fulham or everton came here to lie down, so they deserve credit for largely nullifying us and making things difficult.

in my ideal world, arsene would be able to use all his resources, to prevent burning our most important players our, while keeping our squad players sharp and hungry. of course, he is not managing in an ideal world, and often has to make the best of bad situations. these include limited depth at certain positions, off-form/not good enough players at other positions, and difficult matches which require our strongest possible side to start. i still maintain he can better manage this if he takes more advantage of in-match opportunities to get squad player a some valuable match minutes – even if it is only 20 here and 30 there. and when he does that, he can also rest first-teamer x for the corresponding period. these opportunities may not be so often, but they do come up occasionally. our stroll at the dw, where we killed the game off after an hour is one such example…

match situations often prevent scenarios such as the above. in these cases, he has to make sure we win the game first and foremost.
