Morning all.
Time’s against me this morning so a short one today. Yeah yeah, I know, I’m short every day!
Anyway, it’s Arsene Wenger’s penultimate fixture tonight against a Leicester side who are nothing like the League Champions they were not so long ago. They’ve still got a few good players, probably more but if recent results are anything to go by, they’ve been dreadful. There last home game ended up in a 2-0 defeat by West Ham, another side who’ve been poor this season. It could be another good night for The Arsenal, mind you it often is when there’s nothing to play for.
Last night the under 23’s had a chance to bag another trophy but the final against Porto was shocking from start to finish. The final, which took place at The Emirates Stadium saw a very depleted team turn out and if that wasn’t bad enough, the reserve team coach wasn’t at the game either as he was replaced by the under 18 manager. Interestingly, Thierry Henry, Per Mertesacker and Santi Cazorla were there watching on.
One can only assume that the under 23 regulars who weren’t involved last night will be in the squad for tonight’s game and if none actually get playing time, then what’s been the point? To be honest, I think it’s a waste of time anyway as why risk losing another trophy for the sake of a dead rubber league fixture at the end of the season? getting that winning mentality at an early age is not only good for the club but for the players. Success breeds success at any age group and it’s not even like these players are kids anymore. The are young men who have a good chance of making a fantastic career out of the game. They can be the future of Arsenal if they work hard and remain grounded.
As for tonight, well as I’ve said before, I’d love to see Macey between the sticks. Eddie up front too and certainly more of Reiss Nelson. The rest, well who knows who the manager picks, and to be honest, at this stage of the season, who really cares?
Whoever plays, I hope they enjoy the game and we do too..
