Cavani, Reus & Khedira? No chance but Manolas is possible…

Morning all.

Arsenal are set to make moves for Edinson Cavani, Marco Reus and Sami Khedira in the closing stages of the transfer window according to The Express. We all love a rumour, but this one is up there with one of the daftest I have ever read.  I’d be over the moon if all three did sign but only as long as we sign a defender and a defensive midfielder as well. That would make five more signings, and that isn’t going to happen in my opinion.

Greek centre back Kostas Manolas is a more likely option, £8 million is all his current club are demanding.

Happy birthday to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He’s 21 years old today and a big season is expected from our midfielder/winger. Hopefully it’ll be an injury free season for him.

For Theo Walcott too, the poor guy has been plagued with injuries but he’s back, running and sprinting and according to reports he’s not lost any of his pace. Full training is not far away and he’s another player who if stays fit, will have a big part to play in our challenge.

Both players were seriously missed last season.

They weren’t the only ones of course but with the fitness guru Shad Forsythe on board, one can only hope that the repetitive injuries we have suffered for so long will now reduce dramatically.

Today’s post written by Anthony Walker:

Gunners hope for winning start against Eagles

As the opening weekend of the Premier League season edges closers, Arsenal fans are beginning to tingle with excitement about seeing new signing Alexis Sanchez make his debut. With the club preparing to welcome fellow Londoners Crystal Palace to the Emirates in their first game of the season, Betfair believe the Gunners stand a great chance of getting the new season off to a winning start as they urge fans to back Arsenal to open their account with a win.

Last year saw Crystal Palace yield six points to Arsenal over two 2-0 defeat to the Gunners, and Wenger will be looking for another three to start off his season. Both clubs have added new faces to their squad in the summer, but Palace fans will have looked on enviously as Arsenal signed Alexis Sanchez while they had to settle for Frazier Campbell.

After an incredible second half of last season, Palace will be hoping to continue that momentum into the new campaign, and Arsenal will need to make sure they are full focused if they are going to avoid slipping up in the season’s first game. Tony Pulis worked wonders with Palace last year and their fast tempo will need to be matched by Arsenal if Wenger’s men are going to be able to stamp their authority on the game. While Palace are among the favourites for relegation with a lot of fans, especially as Pulis has left the club, Arsenal will need to ignore what the odds are saying and focus on getting the season off to a positive start.

While the summer arrivals of Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers have all gone down well with the fans, there is still the feeling that the club need to sign an out-and-out goalscorer, a holding midfielder and defender if they are going to have any real chance of going all the way this season. With time running out before the end of the transfer window, Gooners will be hoping to have a few new faces in place before the end of the transfer window.

There were plenty of lessons for Arsenal to take from last season, and the club’s fans will be desperate to see their team sustain a title challenge throughout course of a full season.  There were times last year when it looked as though it was going to be Arsenal’s year, but a second half slump cost the club dearly in their bid to win their first Premier League title for ten years. Arsenal fans will now be hoping Sanchez’ arrival this summer proves to be the missing piece in the jigsaw.

Click Here for a look at the season ahead, not just for us, but for all….

That’s it for today, have a good one….

C Cavani is not the type of a player Arsenal need. He is also not the type of a player Arsene Wenger need. So the issue of Cavani is out already.

Joe, imo, don’t think it’ll be wise to pay all that money (transfer fees + wages) for an unstable player because of few and far between moments of magic. Anyway, if we can afford to lose any money we spend on him I’d take him in a heartbeat.

The way the press are talking Milan want to get Balotelli’s wages of their books. Let arsenal take him on lone for a year with an option to buy if he works out.
Heading out hope everyone has great day

Hi all.
Cavani is one of the most over-rated players out there. Balotelli is a loose cannon who would destabilise what is suposedly the best dressing room atmosphere for years. Manolas was impressive in the world cup but it is not easy to judge a defender playing in a team that defends with 8 or 9 players all the time meaning there is always someone covering. How would he fair in our set up where he’s likely to be exposed to fast breakaways? We definitely need another CB and a strong midfielder though as so far, we’ve really only replaced like for like apart from Alexis.

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Edinson Cavani, Marco Reus and Sami Khedira; I haven’t heard anything about Britain legalizing marijuana or some of the more hallucinogenic drugs, I can think of no other explanation for those pipe dreams. Khedira maybe, with RM reportedly slashing his price to move him now. However, I suspect he may have a deal with Bayern or Chelski to run down his contract and join next year for free with a high signing fee and/or wages. Although Bayern may decide to move now that Javi Martinez is out for 6 months with a damaged knee.

I’d be more than satisfied with an experienced CB and a mobile physical DM like Carvalho.

Rico – I think Arsene would have to play over the odds to get Hummels, something he is definitely not in the habit of doing.

The one thing that has surprised me this transfer window is the number of players, especially ones playing in Germany, that are happy to sit tight with their current clubs, most of which can’t/wont be challenging for the their respective league championships.

I can’t see Wenger buying a top quality CB.

Wenger will either
A) buy/Loan a player in the september of their career where they’re not bothered if they play or not. A player from abroad gets a nice payrise to sit on the bench and finish his career.

B)Buy a youngster who knows his time will come and is more than happy to sit on the bench learn his trade and fill in when necessary

C)Buy a complete unknown Kozzer style.

I can’t seen Wenger has changed in his ways that much.

No idea CG. Bendtner is an okay player. Not brilliant, but an okay player. If he would just behave, work hard and keep his mouth shut he could have done okay here.

As I keep saying – There’s a very fine line between success and failure. Concentrate on your game and keep your fcukng mouth shut. He’s obviously talented but has wasted his best years through his own immaturity.

I’d say it’s a shame, but they get told from the start that it’s a short career and to make the most of it.

Just as long as they are proper players, Rico.
We have Alexis and Debuchy who are tried and tested. As re: Chambers, what I have read about him is quite illuminating – a nice piece got chucked up an hour ago on Twitter by Pat Holland stating that while everyone was raving about Luke Shaw it was Calum Chambers who was the real deal…..

At Southampton, Chambers was a victim of his own versatility. For those who don’t know what that means – it means that as he was moved from position to position and he never made one position his own, forcing people on the outside of the club to think that he was just a stop gap type player, who filled a hole as and when needed when that was far from the truth.

Bob John may like to enlighten you about a kid we bought in 1969 who initially played all over the shop but who stood in for Peter Simpson in the first half of the 1970/71 season, but who was initially a centre forward.

Afternoon!! Nice read over a spot of lunch with my nightmare children at summer-club!! Really can’t see Cavani happening for the same reasons everyone else is saying; mainly wages being to high would destabilise all those on half of what he wants! Khedira I think would have already happened if true&i can see Bayern going for him now Martinez is out long-term. I still have a nagging feeling with Reus, Wenger likes him, he likes us and his buyout clause is relatively low. We also don’t have a natural left sider apart from Podolski who Wenger clearly doesn’t favour. Should try tempting Dortmund with 8mil below buyout +Podolski….failing that pay it and sell the Instagram-freak!!
Manolas is a very Wenger signing and I’m sure it’s going to happen but I fear, as time goes by, we may get disappointed with regards a CDM….come on Ivan, just pay the bloody 3rd party and get Carvalho!!
By the way, has anyone seen this? Jack Wilshere you nearly made me choke on my cucumber sandwiches!!!!

Diaby won’t be named in the final 18…

Wenger is just trying to keep him involved…

So, we are definately going into 2014-15 with a 24 man squad…

If Wenger gets 8 appearances out of Diaby, I will be very surprised.

Imo……….I think AW will go for Manolas and Rabiot….spending on them the 15mill he got from Barca.

The rest of the money will go on Cavani or Reus…..with Podolski saying Auf Wiedersehn and go to Dortmund so that Ginge will be stuck up with him. Football does have a habit of kicking you in the teeth sometimes eh Ginge?? Pity, because Podolski is one of my favourite footballers.

Cavani is an agent inspired spoof…

Arsenal won’t go for him. Too old, too expensive.

Khadira is gonna go to the Chavs, money is his priority, unfortunately.

Reus is possible, Wenger might sell Campbell in order to finance the deal, fit him into the 25(24)….

Personally I’d like to see Campbell stay, but I have a bad vibe about his agent, who gives me the feeling that he’s a total parasite…

syg re: 1.26. John Roberts did a great job in the double season when ‘Stan’ Simpson was out but my biggest memory of him that year was the only home game we lost in the league cup, ironically against Palace. Roberts decked Gerry Queen the Palace forward who was a dirty git and went in late on Bob Wilson. Big John got sent off and Palace got a penalty and won 2-0. It seems that the Wolfsburg coach must be doing cartwheels in delight……….

We dared to touch the top shelf,” Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking was quoted as saying by Kicker on Thursday, before Bendtner was signed. “It’s empty now, we need to look a bit further down now. It gets more difficult.”
Wolfsburg CEO Klaus Allofs added in WAZ: “We are not panicking.
“[Bendtner] is still a good player, that’s why we considered him. When he is available on a free, there have to be a few question marks.
“That’s clear, otherwise he’d be under contract. If the chances are higher than the risks, we don’t have a problem to do such a thing.
“If you, just like us, want to achieve something special, you should not always do what is expected of you. Nicklas Bendtner would be the unusual path, which you sometimes have to take.”

1-0 81mins! Yeah I’d be happy with Manolas and Rabiot. Think he’ll complete the Micanovic deal if he can get him a work-permit. Then a big big signing. I was convinced Reus but there’s a report from Spanish radio saying he’s going Athletico…..but noises from Germany saying its rubbish…who knows??!

Good Morning Chipmunks and Munchkins.

how’s the weather up there??? still rainy and stormy???

here its a no comment weather. Getting ready to fry. we are already warmed up and rolled into flour to fry in our sweat with the sweltering heat.

I hope the Palace players and fans will feel fried or grilled at the final whistle.

It’s a perfect day to spank Palace!

I wonder when it will be the perfect day to spank Mourinho and the chavs??

you know. something to the tune of 8-0. I wonder what excuse he will bring up then.

Hell Raising Devil

the problem I see is not that we arent capable of spanking someone to that tune. Of that, being capable of winning by such a score, I have no doubt.

But AW teams usually ease off at 4-0. we are not ruthless.

we should be unemotional even when the proverbial dead horse has been flogged, hung, drawn and quartered.

Exactly Dev, we need a killer instinct, a ruthless streak. Go for the jugular, show no mercy from the start to finish.

We need more ruthless players…..

Hell Raising Devil

but AW teams rarely show it. many times at 4-0 up I have seen our team ease up and let the opposition have the ball. Even against City, at 2-0 we let them have the ball.

Till we got the 2nd goal we had an average of around 65% possession. When we got the 2nd goal the possession average fell to 48%

Lee….I do not think its the players. Its the mentality of AW. Even when we had the invincibles we had players like TH14, DB10, PV04, BP7, FL08……players who were ruthless. But I always had the feeling that AW tells the players to ease off after 4-0. How many games we were 4-0 up by half time only to ease off in the 2nd half? Against NUFC we were 4-0 by the 20th minute. We visibly eased off. Then we all know what happened. The ref managed to conjure a draw. If we had not eased off……….by half time we would have been 8-0 up. I do not think the ref would have managed to conjure up something.

yes Rico. he surely did. But why did we ease off after 4-0?

As a coach I never liked pummelling teams….I used to think of the feelings of my opposite coach. Until one day I got a 0-9 reverse. That was the day I stopped being kind to others.

We went down to 10 men in the 2nd half Rico. We did not go down to 10 men in the 20th minute. what I am talking about is what happened between the 20th minute and the sending off. I complain about the easing off Rico. By the time the glass mural got sent off we should have been out of sight to the tune of 8-0 if we had not eased off. Tbh….we should have been winning with that score by the 40th minute.

But we switched off. And it was visible Rico.

If last year’s 1-6, 1-5 and 3-6 did not teach AW anything about ruthlessness he will never learn.

No Arsenal team, be there, 10 or 11 on the pitch, should be taking a battering from any team.

Morning!! That 4-4 game really gets me angry! Everyone goes on about great comeback and Arsenal losing 4goal lead but the ref was atrocious!! Barton nearly breaks Diabys leg….Diaby loses it…both should go but only Diaby does! First penalty Koscielny pokes the ball between the attackers legs so not really a pen!! The second one I will never know why it was given….either a supposed push or handball by Koscielny but never ever a pen!! And who scored the pens? Barton who shouldn’t have been on the pitch!!
Down to 10 men with Squillaci in the back four was a hard ask but with the ref making shocking decisions too!!!

Glass mural got sent off in the 50th minute. After the 20th minute (4-0) we eased off and let NUFC players have the ball. why? that makes it 25 minutes in the 1st half and 5 minutes in the 2nd. 30 minutes in which we faffed about instead of tearing them apart more and more

Wenger is all about performance and physicality stats . He believes that players energy starts to wane at 65 minutes , hence the reason for the 70 minute substitutions which are pre-planned . When he feels that a game is won he reverts to energy saving to assist with the next match. This is of course mainly because he doesn’t have big enough squads to cover.. He cannot afford to burn a player out and use another , which is why he subbed the Ox against United bought on Arshavin and lost Van Persie in the process.

I looked on enviously when Yanited of Manure hammered Ipswich 9-0. They kept on and on.

Why cant we do that? You might mention the 7 goals against Everton…..but that was when we had DB and TH.

Around two days ago someone said that he was hopeful that Palace will not score against us and Rico told him that first they need to take hold of the ball. I agreed……but reflecting upon it I ask…..with the amount of possession we have and how hard it is for other teams to prise the ball away from our players, why dont we kill teams? Sometimes the ball seems a blur with all the zipping about our players do. So we do that until we score 4. Then why do we stop.

I have been seeing our players stop playing at 4-0 since AW took over. That means its not the players. Its the mentality of the manager.

Strong DM/HM you guys call beast won’t solve our defensive problem. If only you have realised Alex song wasn’t a DM in his last season with us,Arteta was †̥ђƺ DM.Defending as a team makes it difficult.Chelsea defend as a whole, you see there winger taking †̥ђƺ full back position and †̥ђƺ full backs moving in.For instance, spurs have MD,pauliaho, capoue, sandro and they still got trashed last season.

Fair point about the faffing though! Maybe Wenger thinks if we go full tilt when we are comfortable we’ll get even more injurys?!
So soccer am 10am-12, ManUre v Swansea 12-3 BTSport, Soccer Saturday, Then the Mighty Gooners!!! Question is, with the wife on a hen weekend, what do I do with the kids?!!! I’m thinking back door open, Disney marathon on in back-room while I watch footy all day in the front-room!! Don’t know about food though the cupboards are pretty bare!!!

Hell Raising Devil
Hell Raising Devil

not go full tilt BB.

If we keep spread out and let the ball do the travelling we still would keep ball and score. But we let them have the ball. The chances of an injury in trying to stop the opposition is bigger than if we keep the ball. The problem is that players like JW keep the ball more than two touches. Imagine if keep the ball and players dont do more than two touches……chances of an injury will be considerably less.
