Breaking news: Wenger signs new rolling one year contract to take Arsenal to another level.

Gotcha….

Morning all.

Sadly though, this headline could very well pan out to be true any time soon but during an interview with Geoff Shreeves of Sky Sports, Arsene Wenger muddied the waters surrounding his future:

Q – Just clarify a couple of things for me. You’ve said whether you finish in the top four or not won’t affect the decision about your future, is that correct?

A – Yes.

Q – You also said you will make a decision very soon after the West Brom game?

A – No, I said I know what I want to do.

That to me suggests any agreement between him and the board is far from being concluded which is probably why we’ve heard nothing because right now, there’s nothing to tell. The biggest mistake was made by Arsene Wenger who after the defeat to West Brom told us we’d know soon. Soon to me means within a few days, not a few weeks or months but I guess we all have our own views on that, Arsene certainly has.

But this situation should never be but it’s what the club does, not only with Wenger each time his contract enters the final few months but with the players too. Nothing has been learned from the RvP situation, a player whose contract should have been renewed before talks eventually took place and we know what happened then. Something similar is likely to take place with Alexis Sanchez no doubt and behind him, we have a few other players heading into their final year of contract too.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Carl Jenkinson, Per Mertesacker, Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs and out of all of them, I’d only keep one, maybe two at a push.

So perhaps that’s why Arsene Wenger hinted on Thursday in his Press Conference that they’ll be changes in the summer. He’s not the right man to make such big changes in my opinion but regardless of who is in charge once the season ends, they’ve got a big job on their hands.

Just as Arsene has trying to get his players motivated ahead of the big clash against Pep and his City team who’ll be looking to grab that runners up spot. We however need a big win just to have any chance of getting into the top four…

Have a good Saturday and don’t be fooled by those naughty headlines on NN…

Good morning Rico, The Daily Twinkle should be in its element today..

The squad is a shambles devoid of confidence and direction. The fans are fed up with paying over the odds to watch and Wenger is playing the games by making us guess what he will be doing.
The board should grow a pair of balls and make the decision for him by terminating his contract.
This situation is completely down to the manager – an arrogant, egotistical tyrant who has surrounded himself with spineless yes men like Steve Bould. Get shot of him and his merry band of sycophants and put this club where it needs to be…

I imagine the crass embarrassment of the whole situation is lost on Arsene whose “Next game” mantra has failed to impress just about everybody.

Rico. I just watched a short interview with Shreeves on the SkySports site. Strikes me that he has several ‘go to’ phrases that he trots out but, overall, I saw the same defensive man still peddling the same stuff. That he cannot see the uncertainty his prevarication is causing beggars belief really.

Wenger will never give a finite answer – he’s the king of spin. Until he’s done, then we’re done. We are apparently chasing Ben Gibson? Chelsea meanwhile have set their sights on Sanchez and Lukaku!

Morning all

It’s too late now as he should have gone 3 or at least 2 years ago. Too many players to look into their contracts, despite Ozil and Sanches which has been going on for months.

Will need several years to try and climb back with the elite.

Bad management from top to bottom.

Giroud , Ramsey , Walcott , Bellerin , Koscielny and a few others have hitched their horses on Arsene’s wagon all of them will get a deal elsewhere when he finally goes but the club will not get much for them . We must be pretty sure that both Sanchez and Ozil will be off too and at the end of their contracts we will not be selling at their proper price. It is rank bad management from everyone concerned , meanwhile I do not expect any definitive answer on his situation until the date for club level renewal is past.
Quote from Arsenal.com :- The deadline to renew your Platinum Membership(s) is 5pm, Wednesday 5th April 2017..

If they could they would wait until June 1st but probably the pressure might be too strong for that.

What is certainly damaging is the wedge that Wenger is driving between the club and the fans. I tend to agree though Rico. A new high quality and modern manager could get more out of this team and would set the bar a lot higher for performances than Wenger has. Despite his incessant bleating I believe that Wenger is putting his own personal interests above those of the club and that is killing him now.
I really cannot imagine which vision of the future the board could realistically accept that would include him continuing. Just what does he have to do to show them how far he has slipped?

Adam

Is that so we can scrape top 4 Rico?

Everton lose brings us closer to The Europa League.
We never seem to agree Rico but I am not arguing that another manager might get better from some of the players especially in their right positions, but we are talking about contracts.A new man might want different players whilst AW will carry on as usual.

There is surely no more desperate plight for a fan than believing that losing will be the best for their club in the long run. It’s a sad dilemma.

Afternoon Rico

Cheeky post there… ?

Calum Chambers, on loan at M’Boro could be part of a player + cash deal for Gibson I suppose?

A Gibson/Holding combo has a good old-fashioned English look to it methinks.

An English goalkeeper would be nice as well, the lad from Sunderland perhaps?

An anglicised defence and a continental attack, works for me…

Theres some quite tasty fixtures left for the top six.

I think that Everton are out of it now, looking at their fixtures.

Despite the sackcloth and ashes atmosphere surrounding the Emirates, I wouldn’t put it past Wenger to get out of jail even at this late stage.

We have quite enough winnable games and the difficult ones are drawable (is that a word Adam?).

We could well go into May with just a point between us the Mancs and the Scousers for 4th spot…

It would oh so Wenger to somehow get 4th and a cup final even at this dire stage…

Read Gazidis will be meeting some fan reps.
Are these bunch prepared with hard facts as how we have reggressed? Tell IG to man up and do his job.

Show player mismanagement and favourism? Lack of leadership alluva. Say we are ready to move on and give the next manager time.
Or are they going for tea and biscuits?

Theme should be Wenger out in May. With hard facts to support it.

Hope more numbers turn up for the protest.

Just listened to Bob Wilson talking Arsenal and Arsene on the radio. For the first time ever I noticed a lack of fervour for Wenger continuing in post from the ex-goalie. He was quick and fulsome in his praise for all that the old one has/had done for the club both materially and ‘mentally’! But I think he recognises the need for the 67 year old to call it a day before his reputation is totally tarnished.
I agree with sir Bob absolutely it’s just a great shame that the manager is so reluctant to ‘do the right thing’. You should never outstay your welcome and as intelligent as Wenger is he clearly is not listening to the wise men around him or even the deterioration of his own mind etc due, not to experience but more to do with the natural aging process, no matter how you may rail against it. 65/66 is the retirement age for a reason. Time for our manager to take his P45 to the pensions office and then sit back and reflect what a golden life he has led and write his memoirs!!

Bright blue skies here. A good day to beat a side who play in light blue.
