Awful Arsenal news! Big statement from Ivan & Tube strike could hurt us….

Morning all.

What the heck is wrong with people, well in this case, an Arsenal fan…

Over in Kenya, an Arsenal fan got into a bitter argument with a Liverpool fan after our loss on Saturday and instead of taking the abuse just like I had to on Sunday, the idiot went and stabbed the Liverpool fan and killed him…..

What is the matter with some folk?

Onto some brighter news.

Chuba Akpom has returned to the club after his loan spell at Brentford. Having made only four appearances from the bench for them it still keeps me wondering why we bother sending some of our players out on loan.

This kid, well, eighteen year old is meant to be the mutts nutts. He’s strong, quick, has a great first touch and he’s greedy in front of goal. Sometimes there surely comes a point where when we need a goal, someone like him is worth taking a chance on?

There has to be a reason his loan was only for a month so I guess he’s in Arsene Wenger’s plans for this final period of this seasons campaign. I think I am right in saying he’s even in our Champions League squad.

Talking of the Champions League, Frank Ribery has been ruled out of our first encounter, apparently he’s been talking too much and has subsequently had to have surgery on his buttocks. Good news I’d say….

Ivan Gazidis:

It is a big summer. We have been working very, very hard to gain the kind of financial capability we need as a football club to be at the very top end of the game.Β

The ambition that (majority shareholder) Stan Kroenke, Arsene Wenger, the players, our staff and I know all of the fans have is to be competing to win the Premier League and Champions League. If we are at that level, the trophies will come.

Those long term commercial deals have come up for renewal. You know about the Emirates (stadium and sponsorship) deal, I can’t talk about the (new) kit deal yet, but we’re confident of a good result there too.

It is all about giving us the capability to go to the manager and to say ‘here is the money for you to compete’. That is why we are in this stadium and that is what we want to do.

It is no secret that we think he (Wenger) has done a fantastic job and we think we can give him the tools he needs.

When we are thinking about trusting someone with the type of money we will have, we can think of nobody better than Arsene.Β He is not scared to spend money, but he has to believe he is getting a top-class player.

The parameters in which he has to operate is to spend what the club can afford and my job is to make that as big as possible and Arsene’s job is to think about which talent he wants to spend that on in the best way possible.

If we only find one player that we like, we won’t spend twice as much on him just so we can say we spent all of the money. That doesn’t make any sense to me – the key will be to buy the players Arsene Wenger believes in.

Well clearly that is an oldΒ interview because the new kit deal with Puma has been confirmed and announced.

Regardless, what Ivan Gazidis has said sends out mixed messages in my opinion. Yes we have loads of money to spend but we have known that for a long time, and well before the new stadium and kit deals were agreed.

Then he says that there is no better person to trust than Arsene Wenger when it comes to spending that money. Well that all depends on whether he means to actually spend money, or to be his usual frugal self for the sake of saving the club money.

It’s looking highly likely that Bacary Sagna is going to leave for free in the summer, as is Fabianski. Add to that our clear need for a winger, a box to box midfielder and a striker, the club have to be prepared to spend big money this summer.

I’m hope Arsene Wenger isn’t involved in that spending at all. Name the players he wants, move away and let someone else get the deal done because otherwise he’ll wait all summer and then wake up on deadline day…

Arsenal need to be proactive this summer, not reactive after losing the opening fixture of the new season. Ivan said last summer that we were going to sign players, it’s high time someone with a bit of clout at the club makes sure Arsene Wenger finally gets handed the same hymn-sheet and he starts singing the same lines….

Finally, Fulham are thinking about calling off their fixture against Liverpool tomorrow night because of the planned tube strike. However, we are set to play Manchester United and the game will go ahead as planned despite the stadium capacity being twice as many as Fulham.

Hardly fair considering we face Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend….

That’s your lot for another day……

We won’t be proactive, that would mean pleasing the fans and having a nice settled squad for pre season, Arsenal don’t do that.

Good post… sad/stupid news about the stabbing over football…

Do I believe what IG says over AW actions .. HELL no!

The old saying action speaks louder than words…

To me IG makes striking comments that we seem to overlook…

last summer, he was asked what his job was at the club… ‘he said to bring in money’.

He was then asked if he was happy with the loses we have incurred on the the likes of Park and he said yes but there can always be improvements…

He justified his comments by saying some ‘experts’ at Havard compute our figures and we are very efficient in fact better than most clubs… (sic)

My question is is it really AW who dictates how much we spend on a player on transfers or salaries…?

AW WATH rightly said before…he is only drumming up ST buyers interest…

IG’s/PHW comments are always strategically released after a bad result or whenever the suits sense there might be trouble brewing…

Why are they not hiring coaches to take fans from the stations to the stadium on wednesday when there is a strike action by the RMT on the tubes?

  3. rico says:

Proactive Lewis, AW would have to look the word up first…

    But he’s offered a 15 year old Swede a move to us…

  4. rico says:

    Thanks Ts.

Wath is probably right but something has to change one day and the entire world know e have sealed to big deals financially…

They, and I mean the entire lot at Arsenal won’t get away with being scrooges for much longer…

  5. W.A.T.H says:

Wenger says the Livpoo result was “an accident” Is he for real….> It was hardly an accident it was a f’kin hammering of the severest magnitude…! As someone said to me the other day spineless manager breeds spineless team… Am starting to think thats more and more true as time goes by when he comes out with utter nonsense what he’s just said there…!

  6. W.A.T.H says:

At least with 150mil in the bank to spend we can buy 30 15year olds….! Plus give Diaby n Bendy new 5yr deals….! Oh whooppee doooo

  7. rico says:

Accident?? Him falling over was an accident…

That performance was gutless and very naive and tacticless (if there is such a word)

  8. tsgh says:

iG may have done the handshaking but Charles Allen and Fox were brought in for all of these deals.

Moreover, these deals won’t have been in place without winning the trophy.. 4th. lol

The question is when will the ‘suits’ push the boat out without balancing the books…

I posted on here 2 weeks ago that we had made losses… did this really influence our transfer deals considering we have saved money on Frimps and Park…

  9. Lewis says:

You can feel the effect our recent transfer dealings have had on the morale of the fans. (And recent result of course)

  10. tsgh says:

Akpom, loan is a reflection on our whole team set-up…

    Is Akpom a striker?

I know he only started playing as a striker 12 or so months ago… To me he has the pace and the ability to play on the wings but as per usual we have converted a kid to learn a new position when he needs to develop and establish himself in a position he can do much better at…imho…

  11. W.A.T.H says:

Steve, there was 100million to be spent in Jan and we got Kallstom, enough said…! Although we not even got him really have we..?

  12. rico says:

AW just said he loves this group of players and they deserve to be successful….

Is he planning on letting them all leave then πŸ˜‰

  13. tsgh says:

Steve… I get that comment but I think it was reported out of context…

And it was PHW who made that comment apparently quoting AW and not AW himself making that comment…

AW was talking about spending money the club did not have imho…

  14. jeff wright says:

I doubt that Wenger will have learnt anything from Saturday’s shambles . His comments that we have to get over it and move on do not suggest that he thought that there was any lessons to be learned. I expect the same tactics , and preplanned late substitutions, will be in place against United . If Wenger can’t beat this current United side at home,he has already lost to them away, then he should consider taking over the youth team and letting Steve Bould have a go in charge of the first one until the end of season.

  15. W.A.T.H says:

Problem is RIco with Wengers attitude you can see everything thats wrong with him and the way he treats the players… Yes they may be a brilliant bunch of blokes BUT no one deserves anything you have to earn it… If you want to win the league you have to fight to win it not sit there and say we deserve it….! Sums him up in my opinion how many times has he come out with similar comments…! We’re nice guys we deserve a trophy… Sorry Arsene it don’t work like that mate… you gotta earn it…!

  16. tsgh says:

Yanited have a similar poor record playing Monday nights and Wednesday nights as we do on Saturdays lunch time….

We have a decent record coming back to win on Wednesday’s so…

Unfortunately both teams have not played much EPL live games on Wednesday nights so not sure what the percentage is…

  17. rico says:

1st game for Palace and he scored too Ts.. I’d love to see us get him in the summer…

jeff, I suspect it will be more of the same old same old too…

Not sure Bould is the answer though…. Jonker and Bould maybe…

  18. Steve says:

Yes, I suppose there’s a difference between not spending money we don’t have and not spending money we do have, but the results are the same.

What I’m trying to say is that after nearly a decade we don’t know if Wenger’s philosophy has changed (despite Ozil) or whether Wenger with money will be a much better manager than Wenger without money.

  19. W.A.T.H says:

I do feel a little twinge of sympathy for all those poor manc supporters who gonna have to walk from Devon n Cornwall… Ok Ok you got me, zero sympathy what so ever….!

  20. rico says:

Agree Wath. Where was that fight on Saturday, nowhere to be seen….

You and me both re Ince, maybe SK should give you the AFC chequebook πŸ˜‰

  21. Wavy says:

Diaby’s new contract is already written and the ink is dry, just waiting for him to recover the use of his hands and arms so he can sign d ting! Though it should have the well known phrase, ‘pay when/if you play! In it
Bentner? If he signs a new contract I’m off to support the spuds!

Speaking of which, us in the transfer market? We are tighter than the synagogue on Tottenham High Road! Just look at the ethnic and religious make up of our Board. I rest my case!
A few small boys from the South American jungle is about as good as we can expect this summer. ( He’s gone off the African kids.)
    Good morning all

  22. tsgh says:

    true WATH…

I have heard that AW hates players making noise or ‘pumping themselves up’ before games in the dressing room…

One reason why he has all of a sudden dropped certain players when theremay not be a valid reason to us…

Maybe it is the ‘zen’ he learnt from Japan..

  23. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, he used to hate Wrighty being in charge of the Ghetto blaster at Highbury…..!

All this contemplation and meditating b4 a game is utter bollox… hence lack of fight and passion on the pitch…! Wenger is a brilliant manager no doubt BUT he is also a very bad one as well in certain aspects…!

  24. W.A.T.H says:

Rico, If I have the “Club” cheque book you can rest assured there’d be no money sitting in the bank account the asset value would be super super quality signings making up the bulk of the squad plus of course a few funds misappropriated to buy a nice 15 seater box for the HH regulars just no Champagne for Mrs Adam we know how she gets on the bubbles…

  25. tsgh says:

That is the reason why he got rid of Eboue,Lauren, Song and Frimpong and Poldi will go too for that reason.

Did you read AR16 and the BFG’s comments after Frimpong was sold?

I heard he told Ox off for playing music after the CP game 2 weeks ago…

  26. bradster says:

    Morning all,
Maybe that’s why Wenger goes by example. He doesn’t make a noise even after we’re 4-0 down in 20 mins.

  27. W.A.T.H says:

Peace n quiet in the dressing room… contemplation of the game ahead…. Amazing when you think he inherited the likes of TA, Bouldy, Keown, Wrighty n Razor who were all extremely big loud characters… No wonder we go out with no fire in the belly they all told to meditate for an hour before kick off….!

  28. tsgh says:

    hiya brad…

WATH, Blame Rico for that… all the healthy eating… πŸ˜‰

    Introduce GG before every 12:45 k.o I say,… lol

  29. Ashley says:

    Come onnnnnn mannnn

We lost and lost badly , ok .. And for the record I’m not an avid Wenger supporter but …. All these bad comments about Wenger on here seem a bit strange , questioning his tactics , saying he doesn’t let players get pumped up before games , we lost the game and now all the slander starts .. Aren’t we all supposed to be Arsenal supporters ? Leave the papers to slate the guy the first second after we lose a game . For fucks sake we have been top of the league pretty much all season !! Yes he says things at times that make you question his mental health , I know this but I think he’s just as embarrassed by Saturdays result as we all are but the best way for him to rectify it is by getting the win over united an he knows that .. It’s he admitted how poor we were in the post match interviews .. No doubt I’ll get slated for even remotely showing this little bit of support for Wenger , but fuck it …..

  30. kel says:

We need a manager who will use the transfer window to his advantage, to build, To improve, to boost the morale of the club as a whole. If Wenger refuses to change his ways this summer then imo he’s gotta go. With Arsenals new financial power we need to be proactive in every transfer window, whether it’s 30m player in the summer or 1 or 2 smart loans in winter. The club needs to push on now, I want it to be Wenger but will he change? Jan tells me no. a full month to sort 1 or 2 loan deals out to help the club push for the title/cup instead we messed about until 5pm on deadline day and signed an injured player. Unfortunately nothing can be done now and we just have to go on as is, but come May when we finish empty handed imo. Most will look back to Jan and say if only/ what if.

  31. rico says:

Ashley, firstly, on here you won’t get slated for supporting Arsene Wenger…

Secondly, there is a bit of irony going on here this morning but seriously, his tactics are sometimes not the best are they?

We set up the same way regardless of who we face, changes are so often made at the same time during a match and we’ve been playing pretty average for a while but getting the results…

    But what changes? Nothing….

  32. rico says:

kel, it’s down to SK and the board to grow a pair and make him change…

I too think we’ll end looking back at the summer and Jan and thinking ‘if only’….

  33. tsgh says:

Ashley, you have a point… but I will admit I LOVE Aw and have defended him on most occasions…ove rthe years

I am not sure anyone is slating AW for the lose but the whole performance imho…

If a team wins only 1 in 8 of their 12:45 k.o whether on a saturday or a sunday and get hammered it is no coincidence imho…

8-2, 6-1, 6-3 etc all happened at part this time… even AW has finally admitted there is an issue…

3 players have said they hate playing at lunch time…

  34. Joywedsjeff says:

    Morning All
as angry as i am, my brain tells me that it was an acccident while my heart tells me otherwise… I’ve watched the game three times already and my only conclusion is that the whole team didn’t turn up. I’ve seen it a few times this season and i still can’t put a finger on why. Bavaria vs city and pep’s team didnt turn up at all. If city went there with belief from the start, pep would have got a hiding. Espanyol vs athletico earlier this season and i dare say our team of bottlers on saturday would have stuffed atletico. They simply didn’t turn up. Chelsea vs Basel at the bridge is another example…. It’s happening far too much in the modern game and i expect to see more as the season progress across europe.
Having said that, if the defeat at anfield kickstarts another beautiful run, i would have no complaints at all.

  35. rico says:

I don’t think anyone will Joywed, if we some gutsy response and better performances it will help to erase that game but….

  36. W.A.T.H says:

Ashley, if you never been here before you would completely miss the sarcasm BUT don’t see anyone slating wenger for things that are actually not true….! When we lose we seem to lose in the same manner the same fashion things don’t seem to change…! The dressing room comments are tongue in cheek but are also have a lot of truth to them…! We may not like the truth but Wenger after the game was honest enough saying we were shit… not in such words yet today he’s changed his tune and it was an accident… maybe if he carried on and said yes we were rubbish and i intend to put that right on Wednesday that would gee up the fans and the players don’t you think…?

  37. tsgh says:

    They always do Kel…

the game was not originally penned in for 12:45

Fergie knew he could not win on MNF so he told the FA 2 years ago after the Everton lose that TV should not dictate when his team play after christmas…

He put a twist on it to say it gives some teams advantage when competitors are playing on different days…

  38. tsgh says:

why are we also playing on a sunday before travelling to Bavaria when FC Munchen are playing more than 24 hours before us and are playing from hom…?

    What about our competitors fixtures…?

  39. kel says:

If we beat utd tomorrow it would go a fair way to erasing that Liverpool result in my mind, but Arsenal and Wenger have a mental block against utd, we rarely beat them tbh, last time we did they’d already won the league, so that don’t count for me, before that was when we had Silvestre playing lol…

  40. Joywedsjeff says:

Yes Rico… But. Thankfully we dont have all week to complain. Wonderful opportunity to kill plenty birds and a little boy tomorrow. In Sanogo i trust:
howdy Ts, never been far away, just waiting for us to lose so i can abuse Stan but i wll keep my pen dry till tomorrow so that my career won’t resemble that of Micheal ‘clueless’ Owen.

  41. tsgh says:

    with VP and Wooney playing…

It never fails to amaze me how Wooney seems to run around like Cantona when we are playing Yanited…

Normally quiet Carrick is even saying they have to beat us… I didn’t hear any of those players making such a big deal when they were about to play Chelsea…

Maybe I am reading too much into things…

  42. kel says:

Would love to see vermalen deployed in def mid with orders to mark Rooney Outta the game. He runs about like cantona because we allow him to imo. But as we all know Wenger and tactics don’t go.

  43. Gabriel says:

Good post but arsen wenger should have the blame for the defeat. This players over played themselves they need rest. And for what happened in Kenya wenger too should be blame, if this result is 2-1 it could have not annoyed anyone much.

  44. bradster says:

I’m worried that Wenger has no players available to change the team we saw against Liverpool nor the will to make changes. He doesn’t seem to want to play Rosicky or Podolski, Gibbs still injured and the rest of the bench are not starting quality.

  45. W.A.T.H says:

Brad, starting quality or star quality… there are a few who would at least leave blood sweat and tears on the pitch and that alone can make a huge difference…!

  46. rico says:

afc.com say Flamini serves the last of his 3 match ban tomorrow.

I rad it was a 4 match ban as he’d already been banned this season. Must mean yellow cards totting up don’t count..

Good, he’s back for he FA Cup match. He’s one who will leave blood sweat and tears on the pitch, literally!

  47. W.A.T.H says:

It was def only a 3 game ban Rico, the ban for 5 yellows doesn’t count, you only get an extra game if you previously been sent off..!

  48. rico says:

Glad to hear that Wath.. Bloody fool he was getting sent off in the first place…

Least he’s back to face the dippers this weekend…

  49. W.A.T.H says:

It’s a shame we ain’t got Henry, Anelka and Vieira to come back as well. Imagine them 3 in this team..! Exactly what we would need.

  50. rico says:

Don’t Wath, hard to believe AW signed those three these days when you look at who we have in the same positions…

  51. potter says:

It is hard to make the comparison of the Wenger of today with the one that first joined the club. Maybe he isn’t all that different, perhaps the people around him have changed and he has stood still whilst others have both caught and overtaken him.

  52. potter says:

It’s a shame we ain’t got Henry, Anelka and Vieira to come back as well.

I would settle for Parlour , Ljungberg and Pires.

  53. Woody says:

They were all unknown Rico (Henry apart) – had they been playing a few more years then we wouldn’t have bought them.

Also guys, it’s my understanding that silence in the dressing room is only at half time – or more specifically for the first few minutes when the players return to the dressing room at half time.

That’s what Kenny Samson told me on a Highbury stadium tour. He didn’t mention anything about before the match. In fact in days gone by TA would have the last word before the players left the dressing room prior to kick off.

  54. Woody says:

    Potter…football changed and Wenger didn’t.

I am fully behind Wenger, but his philosophy of playing your way and not worrying about other teams is a bit dated in my view.

In the 90’s and early 00’s you could do that because some teams weren’t as competitive as today, but if you look at teams who have won the league over the last team years you will see that they change the way they play depending on opposition.

Chelsea change against every opponent and who can remember United kicking lumps out of Reyes at Old Trafford!

My view is that we should now look at who were playing against. Against the bigger teams we should play two holding midfielders so we have more protection against runners – look at the Liverpool goals from the weekend as an example.

Against smaller (easier) teams, we only need to play one holding midfield and someone next to them who helps more going forward.

For me it’s these smaller details that make the difference. Sure sometimes it will work when you do what he does, but for me Chelsea are favourites for this league and what did they do at Old Trafford? Played 0 strikers!

  55. stevepalmer1 says:

Evening all, Are we still going on about the transfer window. I read comments that Wenger should go and we need someone in that knows how to spend, Millions sitting in the bin and we buy no one. Our only free loaner has a back injury so what mug would keep him. May i just remind everybody where we are in the league sitting in second place one point behind the leaders who have spent millions and millions over the years with more managers than players. A dodgy owner who brought the club only to be installed in a safe haven While Arsene Wenger has made top four for sixteen years. People keep saying how long its been since we won something like a whining record when a Champions league trophy should have been ours But Leyman sent off in the first ten minutes in the final put paid to that by cheats that should have brandished a yellow in the first ten minutes. Van Persie sent off in the Champions league while we were leading by one goal against Barcelona for taking a shot at goal a second after the whistle. So ok we haven’t a recent cup, but we are still in the race, we have cover all through the team and we have injured players coming back, we have no excuses why we have been knocked off the top, we didn’t show up that’s all, but were still second and only a point behind. Over half of this years fixtures have been played and there are no excuses why we cannot continue to win as many of those games as possible. Yes we need a couple of players what club doesn’t but we have enough talent to carry on as we have been doing as in the first half. Lets stop going on about transfer windows and get behind who we have, as they can go all the way with the right support.

  56. Woody says:

Well said SP – I agree with most of what you said there.

I do think we need someone else upfront, but the only thing that ever matters is results. I’d be happy with just 11 squad players if they go and win all their games and bring the league back to the home of football!

  57. stevepalmer1 says:

Its coming Woody, just not fast enough for many, Lets face it some teams hadn’t won anything for 40 years and we hardly heard about it.

  58. rico says:

    Evening all..

Woody, that’s something we’ll never know, but not all were unknown just unknown in England πŸ˜‰

  59. rico says:

Potter, I’d settle for those three too, all superb players, and Parlour has to be one of the most underrated English footballers of his era..

Apart from by us Arsenal fans of course…

  60. Woody says:

For sure – we didn’t hear much when Liverpool went 6 years. In fact, no one mentioned it yet we’ve had this non stop since moving to Emirates.

The other thing is that people talk about it as if we’ve been spending millions, but we haven’t been competing with top 4 rivals financially. We’ve gone through Summers spending less than people like Stoke, Wolves, Southampton and Spurs!

Strangely people talk about Spurs in a very positive way and where has all their money spent over the last few years got them? No one gives them any grief and they haven’t even been playing CL football!

  61. Woody says:

Yeah perhaps not unknown, but Vieira and Anelka weren’t playing first team football. If we signed players like them now – not first team, young French and raw (Sanogo), then people would be on here moaning about it for sure.

  62. rico says:

Woody, we hardly sign anyone, that’s half the problem and signing Sanogo wouldn’t have been so hard to understand had he had some playing time behind him rather than just a long list of injuries.

Most fans aren’t so shallow that they wouldn’t actually wait and see what a player performs like before knocking them but in Sanogo’s case, he’s not played since we signed him, well apart from a few minutes.

That’s what angers/frustrates fans, well me!

  63. Woody says:

I know what you mean and I’m not for one minute suggesting we don’t need anyone. I’ve heard quite a few people slag Sanogo off, but for all we know he’s better than Anelka.

  64. rico says:

If he ever makes an appearance and that’s my point really. But, and I think this is key, I doubt fans are slating Sanogo, just the man who signed him….

I know I haven’t and my post just a few days ago said just that…

  65. Bradster says:

My take on that is that we have the world’s best, first name on France’s team sheet, box to box mid sitting every season in our sick bay.

  66. rico says:

I’d sure welcome a fit and healthy Diaby back Brad, that’s for sure….

Trouble is we have kept on and kept on hoping he’ll be fit one day but sadly for him, and us, he hasn’t been and I doubt he ever will…

Miracles can happen though, Rosicky is proving that now and perhaps that’s why the club are leaving him where he is and hoping next season, which I believe is his last of his contract, he finally gets to play…

We need to sign a replacement in the summer though regardless…

  67. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hello
    Chelsea wins 1-0
With Matic and Ramirez in the midfield – defenders they win the League for sure.
    William a very good game

  68. BrainwashedKev says:

So that’s 4 points dropped from games vs West Ham and West Brom, by Mr Wonderful Mourinho…

As I said Sunday, there is a long way to go and many twists and turns in store for us, in this unpredictable season…

Now Wenger, I hope you grasp this golden opportunity to take advantage…

We need a big game from Ozil, Cazorla and Giroud…

  69. Scott from Oz says:

I often wonder is 3 points v Citeh or Chelksi worth more than 3 earned v Fulham.
If….still a decemt sized if, we win the League, we will have earned it through consistency.
This makes the Yanited game even more enticing.

  70. tsgh says:

Nice scott… I thought you were coming on a boat? πŸ˜›

To Maureen-ho beating AFC is worth 10 points to his already inflated ego…
