Arsene Wenger confirms transfer problems. Midfielder rejects Arsenal….

Morning all.

When's the next one Arsene?
When’s the next one Arsene?

Back in 1998 and on this very day, Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup Final to seal the ‘Double’ for the second time. Marc Overmars opened the scoring and Nicolas Anleka finished the Geordies off for the first time in a Cup Final having lost both previous encounters in 1932 and 1952.

In just two weeks time we head off to Wembley again to face Aston Villa and victory would be our 12th in the clubs history, bettering Man Utd by one….

Before then though we have three matches to play and we need to win all of them to have a chance of 2nd spot, if City drop points before the season ends next weekend. Four points should be enough to secure 3rd.

First up tough is a trip to the old toilet and the manager believes the victory up there in the FA Cup did the players the world of good.

“It was a very positive factor for the development of the team to go there and win. We can be inspired by that victory because a repeat of that kind of performance could give us some very important points.” – Arsène Wenger

A repeat of the Swansea performance won’t! We had 68 per cent possession in that match, 23 shots compared to their eight, made more than double the number of passes they did, delivered close to four times as many crosses into the box – and yet we lost! It’s still hard to believe today how not one player could find a way past Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger remains upbeat though:

We want to learn from the defeat and bounce back, and overall the team is on a very positive trend. Let’s continue that.

They’ll have to have their shooting boots on tomorrow as De Gea is a much better goalkeeper and probably one the top 2/3 keepers in the world of football right now but with stories doing the rounds this morning which suggest he’s agreed personal terms with Real Madrid, I hope his head is elsewhere tomorrow and has an off day.

Rumour is that Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw , Michael Carrick, Rafael, Robin van Persie and Marcus Rojo will all miss the game through injury – good, the more out for them, the merrier..

Staying with Utd, Arsene Wenger has been talking about transfers:

It looks to my like they are in the market because every player I am offered, I am told Man United are on the case as well.

I don’t know if he’s joking but if not, is that the way to do transfer business? You don’t sit around and wait to be offered a player, what and who we need to make the squad stronger should have been identified a long time ago and someone from Arsenal should have been knocking the relevant clubs door down trying to sort a deal out long before now. Hopefully that was just a sly dig at the Utd camp as they are tipped to spend big this summer and LvG goes sweet shopping with his shorts on….

One player it seems we won’t be signing is James Milner and despite the newspapers having suggested he was a key target for Arsene Wenger, the midfielder has reportedly agreed to go to Liverpool.

I bet you’re all gutted!

That’s enough of my ramblings, have a great Saturday…

Stevie G’s last game at Anfield today, in case anyone out there didn’t notice…

    Pass the sick bag.

  2. allezkev says:

You know Rico, I look at the transfer speculation every day.

It’s what you do, as a football fan.

We’re almost conditioned into doing it.
Even though we know that 99% of it is crap.

But I gotta say that I am becoming mightily bored with the whole transfer charade.

It used to be mildly entertaining, but now, with the proliferation of all these ‘click bait’ sites, it’s really quite insulting…

  3. allezkev says:

Just had a look on News Now and unbelievably, Arsenal weren’t linked with CavanI…

    Yeah, really!

  4. BT62 Gooner says:

Kev, no chance (legally), though myself and a couple of mates explored the idea of flying in for a jolly, watch at the Emms/pub..But wasn’t really a goer.

    Have you a spare? lol

    Morning all.
Remember, Wenger always plays by the rules on transfers…..shame others don’t follow suit, but he shouldn’t be judged harshly for doing the right thing.

  6. allezkev says:

    Not me BT, sadly…

My lad applied for three, and got one.

Last year he got two from three.

So the guy who missed out last year, gets the ticket this year…

Me? I’m watching it on TV…

  7. goonster says:

Now that’s how you playing football. Sanchez are you watching? You pass and move not hog the ball you square headed mug

  8. Joaquim Moreira says:

Schnerling is always injury? a new Vermaelen?
Mane is intresting and we need a player like him
4-0 now… and another goal invalidated (bad dedcision).

  9. Lee says:

Mane has scored more goals in 4 minutes than Balotelli & Soldado combined this season!
BT I may blow the froth off a few whilst out there….

  10. Micko says:

1998, brought back some great memories, started the day at Highbury for a few pre-match drinks, then onto Farringdon Station to Terry Neills Pub in Holborn to watch the game, Ray Parlour should have made it 3 right at the death but fluffed his lines, Le Sulk was phenomenal, his brothers really messed with his head, still his transfer paid for Thierry and the rest is history.

  11. allezkev says:

That’s an interesting point about Anelka, you made Mick…

If not for his brothers, then how different could things have turned out?

Anelka might have stayed at Arsenal, Henry may have not been signed, Anelka might now be the top scorer in Arsenals history with a statue outside the ground…

Still, Nic can always enjoy getting his bank statements every month, as compo…

  12. Micko says:

We’ll never know kev ! Couldn’t have been easy being treated like a dog !!!

Newcastle putting their fans through the mill, scum winning as well.

If we win the fa cup there’s an extra Europa place up for grabs, we’re too good to ’em.

  13. rico says:

I thought AW wanted Henry and Anelka in the same side? Could have happened but for ‘famiiilyy’…

    Evening all..

Are the barcodes relegated yet? 😉

  14. allezkev says:

Don’t worry Rico or Adam and Lee, who I know are massive fans of Stevie G….

Because we can go through all this sycophanty (is that a word?) again next Sunday when we can celebrate SG4’s actual last game in the EPL…

That is, until he returns on loan to the Scousers and we can continue again and again and again, ad infinitum.

  15. virg says:

Ah, speaking of Old toilet clashes, FA Cup finals and the departure of a Scouse talisman, word is we’re going to score 12 goals in that game and Oezil will score 10 – that game being either tomorrow’s, the Cup final, or Mesut’s own testimonial, difficult to know for sure. But here’s a glimpse into the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVsxBrO-NmI

  16. virg says:

No lie – proof is on youtube. And all those reality videos on the internet are real aren’t they?

  17. BT62 Gooner says:

Record sales of tissues and bog roll, reported in the Looserpool area today….

    3-1 Palace..lol

  18. BT62 Gooner says:

Rico, great stuff, Palace played well, so sad, to bad now fcuk off Stevie Geerrad!!!!

  19. virg says:

Lol follow the link then you’ll see what I was getting at Rico. And I just caught the end of that pool game, managed to see the penalty haha, inter and juve kicked off half an hour before thought it would be better.

  20. virg says:

As you wish. It’s just Ozil in a wierd comedy skit anyway quite funny, he’s quite the actor.

  21. rico says:

TalkSPORT says eight first-team players are set to leave, including Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby, Mathieu Flamini, Joel Campbell, Carl Jenkinson, Ryo Miyaichi and captain Mikel Arteta.

    Morning all…

  22. rico says:

    Morning Bt & Adam.

Can’t see AW letting 8 players go, out of that list I’d keep Jenkinson and Walcott unless the latter won’t sign a new contract.

  23. allezkev says:

    Morning All

Morning Rico, great post… Or it will be 🙂

    Morning Adam.

    Morning BT

    8 first teamers?

Depends on how you describe a first teamer I suppose.

Miyaichi has been a regular of course, as has Campbell…

Or they have been in the tiny minds of those morons at TalkRubbish…

  24. BT62 Gooner says:

Morning Adam, just a quickie, did the multiple file transfer work with the app?

If they all left, i’d say possible three…

  25. rico says:

3/4 I reckon Adam – Wenger doesn’t like to sign too many at once. lol

On a serious note though, we wouldn’t miss any of them from that list as they’ve either barely played or been elsewhere…

  26. rico says:

    Morning Kev…

Talksport are an odd bunch but they are not far off the mark re who might be going though imo.

But no, most of who they list are far from being first team players.. Makes a good headline though… lol

  27. BT62 Gooner says:

Certainly don’t see a couple of strikers, as for a wide man, have we not got one out on loan, who might get a chance?

  28. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, an ‘odd bunch’ is a good description…

Btw, I’ve got some good news for you all…

  29. allezkev says:

Stevie G will be back at Anfield, training during the MLS ‘Off Season’….

But then you all guessed that that was the case…

    The saga continues…

  30. rico says:

Does anyone now what’s happening with Martinez, he is shown to be out of contract next month on the transfer market website but just read he signed a new 4 year contract in October 2014.

  31. allezkev says:

That’s great news Rico, that seems to passed us all by, including TransferMarket.com.

I’d be tempted to loan him out to a La Liga club.

Macey could move up to 3rd goalkeeper…

Vickers has done well on loan.

  32. BT62 Gooner says:

Rico, Wellington is the one, i know Adam has mentioned him and my mate has watched him a few times for Almeria and thought he had something about him, perhaps he could be worth a shot next season.

  33. rico says:

I’m really pleased too Kev, Szczesny must be concerned for his Arsenal future…..

I’d rather he went to a PL club if he goes on loan… Get him used to it..

  34. allezkev says:

BT, I think that Wellington had a lot of problems, initially settling at his first few loanee clubs…

Now he seems to have grown up and is getting regular football, but he’s not proved to be a prolific goalscorer at Almeria.

I’d like to see him get a chance at Arsenal next season.

  35. rico says:

And he likes Pizza Bt.. lol

Would be odd for AW to let him go now he’s finally got his passport. I guess if he didn’t have something about him, he’d be offloaded before now…

  36. BT62 Gooner says:

Kev, i did follow his early career in Europe but have not kept up with him lately, i always thought of him as more a winger with goal threat.

Rico, now he has a passport, he can be sold off a lot easier and for a bigger fee in Britain….lol
