Morning all.

What is the footballing world coming to, the player of the month nominations have been made and there’s no room on that list for Aaron Ramsey. Team-mate Olivier Giroud is on it though so he’s out there fighting the Arsenal corner. As is Arsene Wenger who is in with a chance of winning manager of the month.

Transfer gossip:

The Daily Mail report that Arsene Wenger is planning to make an offer to Man Utd forΒ Javier Hernandez in January.

The Daily Express report that we are one of a few PL clubs keeping tabs onΒ Edinson Cavani who is suggested to be fed up with living in the shadow ofΒ Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Start digging a hole, we are off to Australia this morning, well, not literally, but a few of our Arsenal friends, including Scott have conjured up today’s post, a topical one too bearing in mind we are off to Old Trafford again on Sunday.

Back on that horrid day in Manchester, I was willing to write that 8-2 defeat off as a non event.

Why? Well we had 100 players injured, kids in the starting eleven and yet we had more shots on goal and we missed a penalty! Young scored two screamers that day, shows what the little s**t can do when he stays on his feet and we gave away some suspect penalties and free-kicks Β which resulted in them scoring…. It was the perfect storm.

Now let’s consider what it led to.

We brought in several players before the close of the transfer window, some of whom have since disappeared without a trace, while others were tough, hard nosed professionals with the experience we sadly and very badly lacked, and they continue to shine.

Tough times followed that dreadful loss, especially in the media but the players learned and slowly but surely, regrouped and started to get better. They toughened up, they had more fight in them and no doubt they all knew knew they no-one in the club wanted to experience anything like what they had ever again….

It also seemed to fire up Wenger as since that day he has slowly put together a side that is looking capable of winning the league. With one or two additions in January, maybe more than just the league.

I have always believed that the last 4/5 tough seasons would set us up to being the best football club in the world and can anyone say that that isn’t looking likely right now?

Financially, we already are at least up there with the best.

Our stadium is up there with the best.

Our manager is up there with the best.

The missing pieces have always been the players in our squad but I truly believe that our first eleven is the best in England and canΒ compete with any team in the world.

Our squad depth is better than it has been for near on a decade, but there is still room for improvement.Β January might see Wenger add one or two but I think that all depends on exactly where we are as 2013 comes to an end.

So, from the depths of despair two years ago, we are now TOP OF THE LEAGUE and going along quite nicely….

Of course there is always room for improvement as we still have aΒ relatively young squad but we have the makings of something special.

Something very, very special…….
