Arsenal still pushing for two.

Morning all.

The clock is ticking by quickly and Arsenal, having already made bold moves during this transfer window, look to be back in business again. I know much of what we read is speculation but that’s social media and Fleet Street’s finest for you. Arsenal need a few players, they lost the opening fixture and with both Chelsea and Man City looming large, panic has set in. I doubt it has at all, it’s just a game of cat and mouse.

A selling club won’t budge on its valuation of a player during the early weeks of a transfer window because they want to make as much profit as they can which is understandable. At the same time, a buying club probably know that the longer they leave things, the player they’re after might drop in price.

If a Premier League club wants to sign a Championship player, nine times out of ten, that player will want to make the move and once he’s heard there’s a chance he could go up a League, he’s going to want it. He might push his current club, or submit a transfer request, anything to get his move. Suddenly, that club is in a difficult position because no one wants an unhappy player in the squad. Reports on NN and The Express suggest Sheffield Utd are now willing to accept around £25 million for their young keeper whereas before that figure was £35 million. Talks between Arsenal and Sheffield Utd are reported to be back on.

Over in Real Madrid, it looks like Martin Ødegaard is packing his bags and heading back to Arsenal. Ideal for Arsenal fans who thought his loan stint with the club went rather well. He certainly scored one or two important goals. His valuation has gone down too, well, according to media reports anyway. £30 million is the latest reports. If Sky Sports are right, Ødegaard could be signed, sealed and ready to play against Chelsea.

Interestingly, I’ve not seen any photos or videos on the official website showing the players in training. If I was cynical, which of course I’m not, I’d wonder if Mikel Arteta is keeping the cameras away because of Aubameyang and Lacazette, both who’ve been linked with a move away from the club. I’d have thought one or both would have gone by now if the club’s intention was to sell them because Arsenal will definitely need a replacement. But as said earlier, the deeper into the transfer window we go, the cheaper a player might be.

Anyway, it looks like Arsenal are making a few moves. Moves which will hopefully improve things on the pitch.

See you in the comments.

    4-0 now

Not sure I want Ramsdale he’s already won two successive relegations the hat trick would be completely unacceptable!

Ha ha Wavy, I think he’ll do well. Young and should only get better. He wants to play for England at the World Cup next summer so that should drive him on.

I understand the desire for an English keeper but in the short term I would be looking at a cheaper option if it’s to be a Leno backup. Perhaps swap Bellerin for Neto and Emerson get two internationals for the price of one

    Morning Rico and all
As I said before it doesn’t matter who we get as a keeper I don’t feel he will get a chance as Arteta seems to rate Leno.

I am hoping that we are close to signing a decent striker but won’t hold my breath.

    Good afternoon Rico and all

Thanks for the posts since Sunday Rico. It was not possible for me to read them and write. I just did that now (all of them) and am trying to catch up.

I was highly disappointed with the game against Brentford. I feel that it was a point thrown away at least. Not through ill luck but through negligence. Yes there was the controversy about their 2nd goal with regards Leno ( I had the feeling we were playing against Pulis’ Stoke city….both their tactics and the shirt colours) however the team looked void of leaders who could stick their foot in. Yes Sambi is a good player but not as tough as was PV04 or TA06. We cant expect him to be the leader in the middle. Xhaka should have been….should have been but was not.

At the back I felt it should have been Holding who paired with White not the latter with Mari. But such is Arteta’s stubborness in having a left footed CB on the left that he neglects other areas….Holding is an English CB and would not have been afraid to get stuck in. Mari was a bit timid in my opinion.

While we were not at the races and deserved what we got, the game itself stood the likes of Balogun, ESR etc in good stead. The league is long and unlike many I am not at all worried because I know that if the remaining days Arteta and Edu get a RB, a GK and a striker (together with Odegaard who is nearly complete it seems according to reports) we will have a conpletely different team in two weeks time. While some of the dead wood will be gone.

Right now am reading that Odegaard is on the verge of Arsenal….and I have a feeling that Ramsdale will follow by today week. We sold Willock for 20-25M and are getting Odegaard for 30M….so in essence we are getting the latter for just 5-8M. Both are young and although one is homegrown the other is the captain of his country and competed at the Euros. So I think its a good piece of business…..we must consider the fact that MO was on loan after not playing last season…..so I expect better the coming one. I feel he will get the number 11.

Torreira, Bellerin and maybe Lacazette will fund Ramsdale and probably Madisson???? Kolasinac’s wages will be used for a new striker.

It will be interesting to see the net spend when the transfer window closes.

I dont get it that much Rico. Bellerin is over 25 years. Emerson is 22. Bellerin has had ACL operation and that means his speed has gone downhill. Emerson is a budding Brazilian star. Why would Barca swap him for HB02??

Mind you I want that deal to happen but am sceptic about it. And I would love Aarons to come.

Hi Rico… Nice one! Chuffed the women won..👍
Good old Fabrizio! 5 year deal for Odegaard. I’m really happy with the young core of the team.

Martin Ødegaard played more passes into the box (63) and created more chances (20) than any other Arsenal player managed after his PL debut last season — despite starting just 9/18 games… let’s hope this helps Auba rediscover his form!

I’ll be delighted with the addition of Odegaard he is just the kind of motivated quality we need, 22, captain of his country, I can see him being captain of Arsenal by the end of the season, great at closing down, excellent eye for a pass, not afraid to shoot, a strong personality in the dressing room.

Ramsdale has copped a lot of unfair flak, but he’s at just the right age, as a Yorkshireman he’ll join a long line of goalkeepers from the White rose county, David Seaman, John Lukic, George Swindin, he’s an England International and I’d expect to see him usurp Leno pretty sharpish.

  11. Cicero says:

Good morning all. It looks as though the Odegaard deal is going through £30 million, he will complete with ESR for the number ten slot, but not the number ten shirt. If the paper work can be quickly sorted and signed before lunch time tomorrow, he would be able to play against the Chavs on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Ramsdale deal is done in principal at around a sensible £25 million.

Priority now moves to signing a striker.

Finally arsenal building a core of English talent, after years of investment in the so-called foreign players who cannot be Patriotic in the hard times, some are there to mint money and move elsewhere.. however charity begins at home and I happy that the club is now “inside” at homegrown Players for continuity..
