Arsenal aiming big…

Morning guys.

I pinched the below from Arsenal.com. It’s the rule changes which apply this season and you can bet your bottom dollar that if any club is going to be penalised for not adhering to them, it’ll be Arsenal. No, I haven’t forgotten the Declan Rice farcical sending off against Brighton or the Leandro Trossard red card against Man City.

  1. To reduce time-wasting, when a physio treats an injured player, they will now be required to leave the pitch for at least one minute, up from 30 seconds.
  2. To curtail tactical timeouts, if the game is stopped for a goalkeeping injury, a nominated outfield player will instead spend a minute off the pitch.
  3. Teams will have five seconds to take throw-ins (except long throws) and goal-kicks if they’re spotted to be dallying, and if the time limit is exceeded, a throw-in will be given to the opposing team, or a corner awarded at a goal-kick.
  4. A 10-second time limit will also be imposed for players being subbed off, which, if exceeded, means the substitute cannot enter until the first stoppage after one minute has elapsed.
  5. VAR can now be used to check the decision leading to a player receiving a second yellow card, but won’t check for incorrectly awarded corners.
  6. On set pieces, VAR can review whether a foul was committed before the delivery comes in and leads to a goal, penalty or card and order a retake if so.

Unlike at the World Cup, red cards for players covering their mouths have not been adopted by the Premier League.

There are changes in the referee department too because referees for Premier League fixtures will be selected from the new Professional Referee Group, which will provide officials for both the Premier League and the Championship. The group includes 39 referees in total, with a good percentage having never handled a top-flight game before.

Officials’ decisions will be more transparent this season too, with the full judgements made by the Key Match Incidents Panel shared with supporters for the first time, direct quotes from officials when making their decisions published on the Premier League’s Match Centre, and audio included alongside RefCam when used.

The changes will mean very little unless each club is dealt with the same and there is the problem because they are not and that’s unlikely to ever change.

Mikel Arteta has been talking to Sky Sports:

It’s certainly the ambition of the club and the owners to be the best club in the world. In order to do that, you need the best facilities, the best stadium, the best supporters, and you need the best squad and the best players in the world. Those are the ones that win you football matches and the ones that can be decisive when it matters. That’s what we try to build with the actual players that we have, and with the players that we want to sign to make the difference for Arsenal.

Add in chief executive Richard Garlick comments yesterday about how the club wants to sign players who “are going to change the dial” and I kind of get the feeling there could be a signing or two still to come this summer. Konsa and Barcola perhaps, although I’m not sure Konsa really moves the dial.

Garlick did add that Arsenal are not actively looking at selling those homegrown players (Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly) but if the right opportunity came up – right for them and the club – Arsenal would obviously consider it.

The best opportunity for both in my opinion, is with Arsenal.

Catch up later.

I don’t think we will see Konsa on the pitch for a while, he only returned to training a couple of days ago so has not played since The World Cup.

I’d be quite happy, for a while, with a back four of White, Mosquera, Gabriel and either Calafiori or Hincapie.

Yes Rico. He plays CB but he also plays at RB as well

So here goes……RB White, CB Konsa, CDM MLS, CM Rice, RW Saka, AM Eze, Subs Dowman, Madueke.

They’re always fiddling with things that aren’t broke.
If VAR was meant to improve the game, then they’ve failed miserably. Arsenal will need to show extra caution this year because they’ll be all over us for any minor discretion.
Tottenham spending like they’re suddenly important after two successive 17th place finishes.
Good for you Roberto de Spurzy, their fans can dare to dream, they could get a top 10 place this year.
Like Chelsea, no European football so they’ll be well rested between games.
I think our main threat this season comes from Chelsea and Liverpool.
If Iraola can perform for Liverpool as he did at Bournemouth, they will soon become a force again.
As it stands, we’re the team to beat, most Bookies and pundits favourites to go back-to-back, so bring it on.
“Good old Arsenal, we’re proud to say that name, when we sing this song we’ll win again”.

They’ll still be a second tier club, Rico.

With Konsa on board it also means that Tuchel knows that the right hand side of the team is solely Arsenal….White/Konsa at right back, Saka/Madueke at right wing. Rice, Eze and Dowman at the heart beat of midfield.

That’s seven.

May she get well soon Cicero Not nice news at her age but since she is active and is still walking, that will be of help. Fingers crossed she does good therapy and recover well to be able to continue walking every day.

With the signing of Konsa we now have what I think to be the best defensive depth in world football.

Arteta can play team A in the EPL on Saturday and team B in midweek. And still field a strong team each time.

Good evening lady and gentlemen

Seems we have good Konsa according to various sites.

I still don’t know if it’s true but all the ones I read say its done

Jesus?
Latest I read he is not keen on Napoli.
My take is that nobody will pay him 265,000pw and more profitable for him to sit tight and move on a Bosman next season.

Konsa?
A solid defender and I recalled he was dominance while playing against Arsenal last season.
Need must.
We are one injury short of disaster in RCB and RB with both Saliba and Timber out long term and White is injury prone.
Just get Konsa in and he is EPL ready!

Good news, followed by bad news, followed by good news. On Saturday a lovely family get together celebrating the ninetyeth birthday my sister-in-law. On Monday she went out for a walk , fell over and broke her hip. This morning she had a successful operation to repair the damage and is now sitting up with a cup of tea.

Two hour break for rain, sorry about the missing word. 😕

Typical isn’t it, two months of the finest weather for ages and only the awful anti cricket Hundred being played and mostly at night. Today, the first test match against Pakistan started but after just an hour’s play there was a two break for rain. The game has restarted with the floodlights on and more rain forecasted.

What do people think about Konsa?
I haven’t followed him closely admittedly, and presumably the club have.
What I’ve seen for England I haven’t been impressed.
And don’t we have a strong defence already?

There isn’t an Arsenal corner, where we are the attacking team, when Gabriel isn’t obstructed (foul) has his shirt tugged (foul) or is grabbed, so let’s see how many penalties we get with these shiny new laws?

Regarding No.6, let’s see if that rule is applied equally between the attacker and the defender particularly when Arsenal are the attacking team?

Morning Rico and all.
Merlin, you stole my thunder regarding keepers wasting time.

Morning all.
Goalkeeper injury needs further elaboration.
I think for the new rule:
When goalie is injured during a challenge, team is not penalized.
When goalie is bleeding, team is not penalized.
New rule is for goalie who “suddenly” collapse due to muscular injury of the leg or clutching shoulder, etc. Tactical injury.

And lovely to see the likes of Emi, Pope, Pickford, et al, taking donkey years to kick the ball, will start kicking them within 5 seconds.

Oh yes, our Raya will not able to dwell on the ball “undecidedly” whether to pass left or right. 😀
