AFC.com finally break some news! Wolves have shocked a few, we must not be another!

Just how long have we been waiting to hear the news on injuries to Samir Nasri, Johan Djourou and Alex Song??

All we get is a snippet here and there from other Arsenal blogs saying they are back in training, Twitter comments from the players saying they are fine but we never get the updates from our own club website. It’s frustrating as most of us don’t believe any news until Arsene gives the all clear to publicise a story.

Anyway, finally yesterday the club website announced that Song is expected to be fit for today, Djourou has been passed fit as has Denilson (groan!) Diaby is injured as well as being banned, Rosicky is injured again but Cesc and Robin have recovered from ‘Man Flu’ – see, it only lasts for twenty-four hours, unlike the real flu that we ladies have to suffer….. 😉

Still no ‘real’ news on the return of Thomas Vermaelen though….

So, onto today – no faffing Arsene, the league fixture is what we face today, Barca is for another day. No Arsenal fan wants us to be pipped at the end by the Mancs, Chavs or any other side so please send out a team that will win us three points today….

Today we hold the upper hand in the fixture list; the two Mancs kick off at lunch-time so we’ll know if the Utd side of Manchester lose, we can close the gap to just one point IF we win at home to Wolves. I am not fussed what the result ends up an Old Trafford today, for us it’s a win win situation as long as we secure our own three points!

This is seriously our best chance to win the Premier League!

But, we won’t if Wenger tinkers too much, we won’t if the players throw away winning situations and end up nicking a point from games and we won’t unless this team we all love, support and get so wound up over have one eye on the Barca fixture! That fixture is for another day, today is about Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Not only have Wolves beaten Manchester United, they have also seen off Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool this season so just because Wolves sit close to the bottom of the Premier League a  home win is not a forgone conclusion. Just as we are fighting to win the league, they are fighting to stay in it so today will be tough.

Last weekend Wolves sprung the shock of the season, yes everyone wanted to talk about the Newcastle fight back, but what they forgot is that we also snuck another point nearer to the leaders. Man Utd got beat and with it came the end of their ‘Invinsible’ dream! We all remember what happened to us after our winning streak came to an end don’t we, well, the Mancs could now suffer the same.

It’s up to us now to make sure we are there to pounce when they do, starting today!

As for the team for today – I’m going back to leaving that to Wenger but I don’t think he will take a risk…

A risk on losing I mean….

Have a good day all, three points will make it all the better……

    morning
    again.. 😉
totally agree..arse.com is tooooooooo slow in giving us news..
it irritates me sometimes cos we like to complain that the hacks write rubbish yet the club never does anything about it..
maybe more upto date news would stop the gossip and rumours..
agree with the team today..gotta be full strength..
every time we tinker we lose shape, wigan, ipswich, leeds..
in the next 4 games the mancs blue and red and the chavs all play eachother..points will be dropped we need to take all ours..no fucking about

  2. LB says:

Wenger will play our best team. The Champions League is not as important as winning the league, and he knows that. The real issue is that the players must perform and make up for last week. If I were Wolves, I’d be worried about an Arsenal baclash. We must start like we did against Man City, put them under constant pressure, and we will get goals. Go Arsenal!!!!!

  3. JonJon says:

geoff thinks nasri will be on the bench today..
    gotta agree with that..
if hes training then lets show the world hes back..he dont have to play but just being on the bench will boost everyone..the crowd will buzz

  4. rico says:

just reading geoffs post, was surprised re nasri but he could be right, nasri is a strong man and recovers well, could be 20 mins at the end for a bit of a run out…

  5. JonJon says:

the thing with the cl is that we have got barca
our chances are slim if we are honest barca are destroying everyone..
the league is for the taking lets go for it..its our bread and butter..
worry about barca when it comes..if we lose, we lose..i want that PL

  6. JonJon says:

theres a massive chance we can take the domestic treble this year..
    huge chance..
    forget the cl this year…
lets attack that next year as champions of our own league..

  7. JonJon says:

as long as song and jack are back today i see no problems..
    rvp firing..theo too..
we’ll have too much we just need to go after them early

  8. rico says:

thats my thoughts jj, i desperately want us to win the league, that has to be our priority and if we could win it without £50Million signings it would be so special…

  9. LB says:

JonJon, I think Barca right now have to be one of the best football clubs I’ve ever seen. Milan with Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten, Donadoni and Baresi was an incredible team. But this Barca team, as much as I hate the club, is something else. We must play hard against them, sure, but I will not be fussed at all about losing to them. But in two years, we will get them, if Cesc does not leave.

  10. rico says:

i personally don’t want him on the pitch but i have a feeling if things get close he’ll come on…

what do you think about the defence, will he risk JD or play squilli…

  11. JonJon says:

barca are pretty much unplayable at the minute
i beleive if we have any chance at all we must play 200% in BOTH legs..
it will take too much out of us..even if we win it could derail us
the barca game is the highlight of many ppls season but i dont care..
i want that league..and the cc..and the fa cup is there for the taking too cos im not scared of any english team this year..
they dont have the squads to compete..
lets go for it..forget barca this time

  12. JonJon says:

    yeah agree LB
the manc derby gives us 100% chance of our rivals dropping points..
weve gotta concentrate on the league
if squidge plays for barca so be it

  13. rico says:

Hope you are right LB, i’m not even thinking about wednesday today, wolves is all that matters and three points…

JD and Kos, it has to be surely…

  14. Boris Godunov says:

All of the Gooner nation should step up and support Citeh in their quest to lay our a foundation for the Great Fall of the ManUres. Today we pray that the Italian pervert will instruct his players to come out of their own half because I can already see deciduous ManUres falling down inside the blue penalty area like leaves in the autumn and sold-out refs whistling in the wind just as they pull their tongues from the rednosed bastards ass and bow to the redneck crowd.
    Godspeed the the Great Arse!

  15. rico says:

If we don’t we won’t have a cat in hells chance to raise our game for wednesday…

today is so so important, we are at home, and with a good chance of creeping up on the mancs…

  16. JonJon says:

    im so excited.. 😉
like a kid with a fiver in a tuck shop..
although with todays inflated prices it wouldnt get me a curly wulry…
if andy carrols worth 35mil then a 10p pix n mix gotta be more like a tenner now

  17. JonJon says:

    cc final soon..
id rather us be concentrating on that as well to be honest…
full team for that as well
never thought id say this but that damn CL is such a distraction 😉
if it was copenhagen or myrthr tydfill then maybe id want to go all out in that as well but barca are something else..

  18. Asterisk says:

Doesnt matter who we field, as long as it does not include Diaby, Denilson, Squilaci or Almunia.
If they are fielded together even the best tactics (assuming we have any) will not save us.
A must win today. Go gunners.

  19. agirlagunner says:

    Hola! rico, “Man Flu” 😆

Have three points been more imperative?? It certainly doesn’t feel like it.

Hey, JJ, Erick. 🙂 Howdy?? Weeds, I share your optimism. I’m looking forward to Wednesday, too. I think we have a better chance this year of beating the Stains. Plus, it seems Puyol is out, and tbh, Pique is not all that.

  20. JonJon says:

    hey agag..
puyols injury is a bonus..it means maxwell may play and theo will tear him a new one 😉
but can we just get wolves out of the way first 😉

  21. rico says:

That’s what i think jj, three points today, CC final win and see where that takes us…

thats why i’d take a ‘second team’ to play barca – keep the big boys fresh for something we have a more realistic chance of winning….

  22. rico says:

Hi agag, ready for the pack of wolves then 😉

I hope KT has too Erick, I know little about barca other than they are cheating toads who play good football sometimes 😉

  23. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning All,
I dont believe for one minute that you all think the premier league is the most important comp, would you feel the same way had Barca been knocked out already, in my eyes all the comps are the same, yes even the CC because its the first one for to long, and the league is probably the last, take care of one game at a time, and if we win them great, the CC would be a massive dissapointment to all Arsenal fans and players alike, dissapointment could start a snowball effect. Barcelona is just another game in a very long season, we’ll knock them out when the time comes till then our Barca today is Wolves and they will go the same way.

  24. JonJon says:

    wont include diaby..hes suspended
wont include almunia..ches is no 1
wont include denilson..hes pants, even wenger can see it..four league starts all season..haha
may include squidgey..but hope not 😉

  25. agirlagunner says:

A fair point, JJ. Man flu has secured that we have a fit RvP and Cesc for the Wolves match. 😉

rico, that is KT’s forte, I’m sure a post shall be forthcoming. 🙂

Erick, our second team, will rubbish Barca’s first team, no doubt about it. Hahaha. 😀

  26. K-TR7 says:

Morning all.you may want the league but am sure Aw would take the CL over the league right now.don’t underestimate Aw’s hunger to win it.

  27. JonJon says:

pl is the most important any way..
    every time
i only want the cl cos weve never won it but if i had a choice and i had to pick then PL every time..
pl shows your strength over a period of time..better indicator of a team
    cl is a cup..total lotto..

  28. agirlagunner says:

Hello, Steve. I prefer the league, if I am honest. The CL only because we were robbed in 06, and I still remember the despondency of it all. 😥 If our players have the right attitude, the CC is ours for the taking. 🙂

  29. JonJon says:

AW wants it more than anyone but i think he understands the PL is there for the taking..
    barca are not…
after years of winning neither..what do you go for???

  30. rico says:

😆 Erick and I’m sure KT has his quill out already agag 😉

Hi Steve, for me personally, the league is more important but only as its a tough tough test against barca and a heavy defeat could cost us dear…

  31. rico says:

Hi KT, i think he wants it badly, but also wants to get one over barca…..

i just want three points today then worry about barca after….

  32. Steve Palmer says:

    Hi Agag,
i am allways devestated when we lose, not a good loser at all, i’ll take each cup as it comes along, and after we have won all four, pick what one has given me the most pleasure, beating Barca, then winning the final would take some beating in my eyes

  33. K-TR7 says:

JJ I may be in the minority but I would take the CL over the PL.every year we are KOed i am depressed.the league is winnable i agree but by any chance if we KO barca we become favourites.if barca embarass us it will affect our league form so i wouldn’t want to see Aw send out a B team against barca.the likes of rvp and cesc must be itching to play in such a game.

  34. rico says:

Andre Marriner is the ref at the mancs…

and they have no rio, smalling is cack and utd are there for the taking today…..

  35. JonJon says:

both teams will park the bus
citys defence is strong and none of the utd strikers are good enough..unless bruce or mcliesh roll over
hernandez is out..rooneys shit…and berba can only score against the crap sides…
tevez v smalling on the other hand……

  36. rico says:

KT, i hope they are all itching to ‘turn up’ today, one eye on Barca and we wont win today and right now the wolves game has to be more important…..

  37. agirlagunner says:

KT, how’s the Barca post coming along?

Steve, I hope your words hold some foreshadowing. That would be all our dreams come true. 🙂 Cl finals 06 = one of the worst moments in my life. Ever. Honest. 😉

rico, I have seen a little of Smalling (pun intended), and I wonder now why we were seriously after him. 🙂

  38. JonJon says:

not really saying play a b team ktr
at the business end of the season i expect a full team every game..(apart from orient)
but what will be will be…we need to beat wolves..so best team..if we lose a few players for barca then thats football but at this stage of the season and the PL right there im not bothered what happens v barca..

  39. rico says:

They will though Erick, they did with us and got what they wanted but they are silly if they do, the mancs confidence will be low, few key players missing and citeh should on paper destroy them…

  40. agirlagunner says:

Good boy, KT. 🙂 It’s only fitting you are the Euro expert here. 🙂

rico, Fergie must feel robbed. First, we pipped United to Rambo after they had announced his signing on their website, and they beat us to Smalling’s signature… only to find he’s been a lemon. 😉

  41. Steve Palmer says:

Thats why when players are linked to Arsenal forget them Wenger wouldnt touch them, he buys players no one knows and either moulds them or throw them.

  42. Erick says:

KT am eager to read the Barca post am sure Rico will post it on twitter and facebook we got to let people enjoy your post KT they are great

  43. JonJon says:

im off guys..got a busy day ahead..
im going to miss the footy but i might be back later..
    defo tomorrow
    up the arse…

  44. RGG says:

Anyone who thinks we’ll beat Barca over 2 legs is deluded. (unless we pay off the refs – how does one go about that Al? – if you had got to the lino too you’d have won that game…)

The League is all that matters to me but not for the players. They won’t be able to help themselves – they’ll have one eye on Weds. It’s going to be tough today, expect Wolves to be fully focused. Hopefully that means 5-0!

  45. A says:

Arsenal don’t “break news”, and it isn’t about wenger giving permission to break a story, that isn’t how it works. The web team only get their information from interviews and press conferences, same as any journos. If there aren’t any ore-match press conferences scheduled over a period (such as an international week) then they won’t have any information to give. The articles on the website isn’t the club choosing to give out info (except for occasional official statements on big issues) it’s just some people employed by the club to do the same job journos do, just only based on arsenal!

Agree with ppl saying that wolves is bigger than barca, the league is really there for the taking and has to be our number one priority. Betting has to be on 0-0 in the manc game, both sides have been unbelievably negative in every big game they’ve played this season and it’ll probably be the same today. We just really have to capitalise on dropped points and take wolves to the cleaners. Barca can wait until after today….

  46. rico says:

Not such bias towards the Manure today from the commentary team on Sky, shame the same cannot be said about the ref….

  47. rico says:

A, re you earlier about afc.com – i was being a tad ironic about the breaking news, i’m having a dig about how little information they give out. without trying to sound rude as i am not trying to be, i don’t care how they are supposed to get their info, some fans pay to view the site and i think for what it gives back its very very poor….

  48. Steve Palmer says:

Got to agree with you there rico, reading other blogs , and it appears that a lot of our news comes from what players have said to other countries reporters or twitter, but not much comes from the actual club, thats why speculation is all we talk about. A very bad bad side of the club when you consider how much the websites contribute.

  49. rico says:

hi steve, it’s frustrating sometimes, they do this ‘player linked to’ but how often do they tell us something we haven’t already heard, i think its poor…

  50. rico says:

Ha ha re Untold, credit to them too, great article about the ref decisions, could just open up a rather large can of worms….

  51. rico says:

I wasn’t watching that closely steve to be honest, its on in the backround…

a win is even more important now…

  52. rico says:

Team in full: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy, Wilshere, Song, Fabregas, Arshavin, Walcott, Van Persie

Subs: Almunia, Denilson, Squillaci, Eboue, Gibbs, Chamakh, Bendtner

  53. rico says:

I didn’t want to see him on the bench unless he’s fit and healthy and ready to play if needed, no risks, not with such an important player….

about time we were on 5live, mind you, only because the mans have finished….

  54. Rocastle says:

    Yeah, not good.

For some reason I’m getting flashbacks of van Nistelrooy falling over in the box at OT.

    Can’t think why….

  55. rico says:

I would laugh Rocastle but i feel so sad for them… it’s just up the road from me too 🙁

Ref made his first cock up then, we should be 1-0 up…..

  56. Rocastle says:

    I know.

They’re all the same. If it’s not Jamie Redknapp it’s Chris Waddle (what a tosser).

Or you get David curbcrawler pleat.

All of which have a seriously unhealthy hatred for Arsenal.

    Reading pulled one back.

  57. rico says:

they expect us to score everytime we go forward, idiots!!

Mind you, i expect them to score everytime too 😉

Good for Reading but pleased for Henri….

  58. rico says:

    Rocastle…

Go to that link, top right hand corner that is an orange link saying sign up, click on that then select create user name only…

    where are you??

  59. rocastle says:

We need to get a goal peeps, this is looking scarily like one of those games where we should be in double figures and we walk away 1-1.

  60. Will says:

Rico, I am between providers so I had to buy mobile internet. It looks like a flash drive, you plug it into a USB slot and you get internet. I only have 1gig though as I should be back on Sky soon.

  61. rico says:

Will, thats all a bit tech for me but it doesn’t sound the best… hope you get it sorted soon….

try 5live if you can Will….

  62. rico says:

Ah, what a day, what a goal and what a man he was/is…. i saw an i/v with him where he said one of his happiest times was the run passed their fans after he scored it….

    love it….

  63. Will says:

As you say Rico, job done.

No injuries (that I know of) I am sure Denilson will get done by TV for an elbow (Claridge on R5) but that is no big thing.

Win one nill on Wednesday and move on.

  64. agirlagunner says:

A job well-done. 🙂 How fantastic was Jack?? Cesc was unfortunate not to score. AA is looking more interested. And I’m sure Theo will give Wednesday a go, rico. 😉

  65. rico says:

i didn’t see it will, but if he’s committed it then take his fine….

we need more than one on wednesday but as long as we don’t concede…. don’t give them an away goal unless of course we win 6-1….

  66. Steve Palmer says:

A good wim by the lads, RVP gets two, if he put all his chances away, he could have had six or seven, his finishing definitly needs work but two goals are two goals, and even more important 3pts. they a calling for Jack to be motm but song never stops a good team performance with many missed chances, one shot for them and that was off target

  67. Will says:

Something I realised while watching Soccer Saturday earlier. If Diaby was sent off for two pushes, why wasn’t Nolan booked for pushing Diaby?

  68. Steve Palmer says:

I must admit i felt the ref did a pretty good job today, apart from Robins second goal which was offside, but i wont moan about that

  69. agirlagunner says:

I had to get a few things for my upcoming hols, rico. 🙂 I couldn’t possibly NOT watch. 🙂

Hello, Will. Steve, we definitely need to work on our finishing. But a win’s a win, and I’m sure only a few will find much to complain about. Our defense put in a good shift, too. Just some nervy moments as the game was winding down, but nothing I was overly concerned about.

  70. agirlagunner says:

Barca is in for a shock, KT. 🙂

Who was commentating, btw?? He talked nonstop about Robin’s allegedly offside goal. Aaaages after the ball had found the back of the net, he was still blahblahblah-ing about it.

  71. Steve Palmer says:

What i like about Alex Song is, when he commits to a tackle whether he wins or not, the player seldom carries on with the ball, our best tackler by far

  72. rico says:

    🙂 agag…

Matthew LeTisser must be the most honest and respectful commentaor on Sky Sports other than Charlie Nic…

  73. Steve Palmer says:

    rico,
i heared that as well, but when you see some of the passing the boys did, you couldn’t say anything else

  74. JonJon says:

    im back
    rvp smash… 😉
    il take today..
would have liked utd to drop points but at least we getting daylight between us and city..
plenty of games left to catch utd..

  75. Steve Palmer says:

Watching today reminded me of our weaknesses and its our defensve midfielders they all want to be forwards

  76. rico says:

anyone see MM’s i/v on sky??

What a truthful man, he said they got well beat, the scorline should have been more, we wasted too many chances and his keeper was fab….

he also said that he aspires to the way we play football but they were beaten well by a top top side…..

  77. rico says:

Will, frankly i don’t give a damn my dear 😉

I’m too old in the tooth to care about what they say or show, it’s their loss… Let them get all excited about every other team and then we will hit them at the end of the season, that will shut them up…..

  78. rico says:

i’m just sick of them Will, i seldom watch these days… just a shame dixon is on there….

actually i am sick of all of them, so much so i don’t really watch SS anymore unless a game is on….

  79. JonJon says:

    wheres ktr
    lets talk about barca 😉
but not too much it will spoil your post which im really looking forward to

  80. JonJon says:

yeah had a feeling nasri would make it
ktr..u meantioned the other night u fancied a trip to the bookies
robin is 40-1 to be pl top scorer.. get your money on it peeps.. 😉

  81. JonJon says:

im sure it will blow peoples minds ktr..the way you analyse things..alot of ppl will learn something that day..
i now think it will be 3-1..
    theo, rvp, nasri 😉

  82. rico says:

Guys/Gals, i have to go for the day, catch up tomorrow, have a good evening knowing we have put space between us and third place… now lets go catch the manure 😉

be good, and have a good evening….

  83. rico says:

KT, i disagree with you there, you know more about euro footie than anyone i know and your CL posts are top draw, don’t ever think otherwise…

I’m chuffed that you choose to write them for HH and I meant that from my heart……

  84. K-TR7 says:

JJ am glad we have started to look threatening on the counter.that ball from cesc to theo for our 2nd was just delicious!

  85. JonJon says:

i know how we can beat them
its basically what weve been saying..
swarm messi and use theo on the counter..a better team than gijon would have scored more than 1
